Same old same old. If you played MW2, you've already played MW3. A new coat of paint, and you have yourself the exact same game. Just like bad music, it sold like crazy. Doesn't mean it's good. Sick of the same product year after year.

Very disappointed at mw3, maps are very small , gun selection is low and the worst parxt is the quick scope is worse then ever, at the moment playing bf3. The only decent thing was campaign...and I don't play the campaign unless multiplayer sucks

The story behind the campaign is awesome and I love that it picks up right where it left off. The multiplayer is also worth the purchase. It may not seem a lot different than prior Call of Duties but it is different enough that makes it really fun and the things that are different are what you probably wanted to be different originally.

Same game as last 3 years, I don't know why anybody still buys this awful rehashed crap. Game play is virtually untouched from MW2 and apart from new maps and new guns, there really isn't any innovation, originality or creativity that made COD so popular in the first place.

This is my honest review based on how I feel about MW3 after playing it for 20+ hours, not based on the manufactured rivalry between MW3 and Battlefield 3. The rivalry was made up by EA to sell games. If you want to hear about their game, go to the BF3 review page. If you want to hear about MW3, read on. They're both perfectly good games, so play whatever you like.

This review is based only on MW3's multiplayer. At the time of this review, I'm still only a few hours into the campaign, I haven't touched Spec Ops, but I've invested 20+ hours in multiplayer. That's how I play every Call of Duty game. I bought the game specifically for the multiplayer, and for me that was worth the $60 USD. I personally wouldn't advise anyone to buy a COD game only for the single player campaign. I always play the campaign eventually, and enjoy it, but I don't think a COD campaign is worth the full $60 USD investment. Most of the campaigns are a 10 hour, very linear, but very cinematic experience.

MW3's multiplayer is the most balanced and fully realized of all of the COD games that I've played. While we all have a particular iteration of the series that we've put the most hours into and feel the most attached to, MW3 feels the most clean and equitable after years of tweaking in the series. If you can still burn hundreds of hours on the multiplayer, or if this is your first COD game, I highly recommend it for the multiplayer experience alone. If you're burned out on COD multiplayer or never liked it to begin with, then there's no reason to buy this one.

I thought they made a big deal about how they were trying to remove campers etc from the game.. so they made each map like a maze and provided plenty of dark places to lie on the floor and wait for passing trade.

Compared to some other titles which have just come out this is a weak, poor game. Cashes in on previous success.

Game is no different from modern warfare 2, seriously this is an expansion pack DLC. Very stupid of activision to use some of the same buildings, items etc. As mw2.

I gave up on cod after the fourth one, was always a Halo and BF fan anyways.

On with the review. The campaign picks up almost immediately after MW2, and it's bang bang, boom boom start to finish. You toss in U.S. Army's Delta Squad in the battle for New York, then on to France, Germany, UK, it starts to feel like the COD we remember from the WWII shooter era. The problem, is other than Soap, Price, Makarov, and company we have seen since the original MW series started, all the other characters feel very disconnected, I found it extremely difficult to connect with any of the Delta, SAS, GIGN, or any other organization portrayed. But our heroes from MW, and MW2, are back. I wont give away the story or any plot points, but it ties the series up nicely, and ends it, no cliff hanger, no BS, the story ends, but it just didnt feel satisfying, now mind you, I don't know how you can turn up the heat any higher than 11, but other than the Price/Soap/Makarov characters, I was just shooting anything that was on the other end of the hallway.

The multiplayer is a level of balance not seen since the first MW game, the GL's have been toned down, the maps feel much less claustorphobic, and much less obvious choke points. Yes, the other team can still pin you down if they are effective, but that effectiveness degrades quite a bit. I still found myself spawning next to the guy who just killed me, or stabbed in the back by the guy I just killed, and am still performing the reload for, but even thats small potatoes. You will spend much of the first portions of multiplayer getting award after award, and it's nearly rapid fire, but it feels like a ploy to keep you interested rather than actually award you for an accomplishment. It is still satisfying when you hear the noise, or rank up, but when you see some of the reasons as to why you got the award, you just think to yourself "THAT was it?".

Our friendly neighborhood Nuke is gone, all the modes are in tact, including a new super addictive Kill Confirmed mode, everytime you get a kill, you collect dog tags from your enemy, however, you begin to wonder if risking your own head is worth it when you see the golden tag in front of your face, when some jerk with a rocket launcher is waiting on you to go for it, or should you get the red tags and save your team the death point? I find it fun, and keeps me focused for hours.

I was lucky enough to get the game before a lot of people stateside got it home (Japan), I spent the first few hours or so thinking I was hot stuff killing everything that moved. After work ended, I got a really nasty awakening, aside from continual deaths and frustration, screaming kids were back to let me know what they were planning on doing with my mother that particular evening, and how much these puny voices claimed they could pound me to a bloody pulp if they saw me in person, yep, MW is back, and mom didnt look at the ESRB rating again.

I don't hate MW, or any Modern Combat games, they are well done, and polished well. I was more turned off by MW3 that within the first 3 hours of playing online, I ran into 6 hosts that were cheating/hacking/exploiting, 8 people were ALREADY 10 prestige, and maxxed out all around, and the leaderboards had already been screwed with.

One more note, I am disappointed that COD Elite service to date (21 November) has been either hit or miss, or just broken. The companies know how wildly popular this series is, but they werent "prepared" for the overload? What did they think was going to happen? To the biggest entertainment launch in history, great work, now please go back to the drawing board, and get something new out there.

7.5 at an absolute push, MW3 to me was a disappointment, and unless Activision allow the developers to take some innovative new directions, will be sign posted as the beginning of the once great COD franchise's decline.

Allow me to backup ever so slightly and elaborate on why I believe this was such a let down. I will start by saying this review applies to about 87% of the total content of the game, which is the multiplayer portion. I did not touch the campaign, as i suspect the majority of players buying the game will not either.

Graphically the game is just fine. Users on this site claiming it looks poor or outdated are over exaggerating, as the game looks perfectly current (in terms of console comparisons) whilst not as impressive as i found in BF3 or Crysis 2. It's smooth and runs at the staple 60fps although does feel a incy wincy little bit like a MW2 re-skin, however this is not a bad thing as that game looked great too.

The overall game play is your standard COD fare, which is great if your a hardcore COD fan, that is to say guns kill quick (faster than BLOPs and appears slightly quicker than MW2), customised classes, kill-streaks (slightly revises and coming in 3 flavours essentially offense, defense, show off) and cluttered maps that allow your usual run and gunners or your "tactical" campers.

What i found lacking was only a couple of new game modes; kill confirmed is a variation on team death match and involves picking up a dog tag to score a point after killing someone. The maps were all mediocre and not nearly appealing to play the first time around as was the case in MW2. Having perks that remove recoil also reduces the competitiveness when using that weapon as you essentially have a weapon that is easier to aim with than a low level player new to the game.

In summary, i will say that the majority of you guys interested in supplying yourself with another COD fix will be satisfied and will find loads to keep you busy. If your after something different and more competitive, then get battlefield 3.

Mabye not revolutionizing FPS's, but has the most detailed and balanced multiplayer of any COD. A good solid campaign and return of spec ops mode make this a package with enough features to keep coming back to in the next few months. But this perspective has subsided with MW3, but before I continue I have to admit that I have already played and completed Battlefield 3's campaign, and I have to admit both BF3 and MW3 impressed, but I do prefer BF3 overall - but this is my review of MW3 so I'll highlight what I enjoyed during my latest Call of Duty experience, and also what I feel lets it down.

My main criticism of past cod games is that they never seem to have memorable characters, and even though the primary characters in MW3 are for the most part familiar I think during the course of the campaign they are far better developed, which helps immerse you deeper into the story and gameplay. Lets face it the story is so far fetched beyond comprehension, but it had me wanting more and keeping me on my toes with the different surroundings and locales - which were very impressive.

From a technical perspective MW3 doesn't break any new ground in the visual department, but that's not to say it's not a pleasantly looking game. It is however technically sound with regards to textures and non existent screen tearing, plus I didn't experience any slow-down during the more epic battles, but I do think the overall pace and weapon sounds need some work. I like a well presented game and feel the menu system, as with previous cod games, lack in presentation. The font used in game and each of the menu screens is related to the series but I feel it needs revamping as it feels cheap and outdated. But this is a minor criticism and doesn't impact on the gameplay whatsoever.

I'm not big on multiplayer these days, but what I have played is pretty much what I expected. It's solid, although like with many other people it is the habits of other players rather than the game itself that make the experience less enjoyable. The term 'camper' is what i associate with any Call of Duty release with regards to muliplayer, and yet again I have had to put up with their lack of gamership. I'm sure they could devise a playlist or gametype that could eliminate this plague and make the experience a more fulfilled one?... On the positive though the familiar ranking and experience system remains, meaning if you are unlucky enough be listed with a bunch of gamers that can't rack up the kills for the team, then you are not penalized too heavily for carrying your team to another glorious defeat.

All in all I enjoyed the campaign and have the need to play through it again on the highest difficulty, so I will certainly get the full value from the £25 offer Tesco sucked me into!

And now, the imaginatively named Modern Warfare 3 comes out and is set to look pretty good. Right. I knew from the very beginning that it would just be a recycled version of MW2. And guess what. It was. This game is immensely disappointing, and it simply does not set the standard set by recent FPS' such as Battlefield 3. The multiplayer is absolutely mind-numbing. Everyone uses the same weapon and perk, everyone has the same tactics, honestly, Counter-Strike 1.6 was a more tactical game than this!
The single player is as boring as usual. I barely concentrated through it, I was too busy wondering when I would play a decent game. I believe this game is a mere recycle of the past 3 games. The thing is though, that is what some reviewers say about Skyward Sword, the thing with Zelda though, is the formula is a good one. As they used to say "if it aint broke, don't fix it". This term can apply to games like Pokemon, Zelda, Mario and Metroid games, the formula generally stays the same, but the formula is a good one. However, MW3 is broke, and it is in desperate need of fixing. I will not hesitate to say that Infinity Ward has put absolutely no effort into this game at all, they have not bothered to add new elements to entice players, ore any new gameplay changes. And yet, the moronic and frustrating fan-base continue to praise this game because they A.) have not played any other games. B.) Are generally 10-16 year-olds who know nothing of what it means to be a gamer, and C.) Like to watch guns go boom in people's faces.
I am disgusting at the poor effort put into this shoddy game, yet no doubt Infinity Ward will think they have achieved something and release map-packs for the low price of $25 for 5 maps. I take my hat to Infinity Ward, as they have managed to con and scam millions of idiots into buying the same game. Go think of something new to do Infinity Ward, maybe banking is more your style? Repetitive and boring, yet somehow, you earn enormous amounts of money.

I don't think I've ever run across a game that's truly that bad. You people say that the singleplayer is ok, yet you give it a 0? STOP SKEWING THE REVIEWS!! With that out of the way, I can get to the review. No this game isn't the best CoD game ever, nor is it the worst. The Singleplayer campaign is what you would come to expect from a Call of Duty game. A game with moments that make you feel like you are watching an intense action movie. Yes it is a bit short, but I don't want to play 15 hours of Shoot em'up in the desert. So SP gets a 7 out of 10. Special Ops is the same as MW2 and different at the same time. Survival mode is an interesting new game mode, but nothing we haven't seen in Horde or Firefight in GOW or Halo respectively. It isn't something you'll be playing for hours on end trying to get to the next wave, it just doesn't have that appeal. The missions in Spec Ops are the same that you would see in MW2, a few on the ground, a few in the air, and a few collecting data or what not. Fun but once again, not something you'll be playing for more than a few hours or coming back to again and again. So Spec Ops gets a 6/10 from me. Now let's tackle the real reason millions of people buy Call of Duty games, the multiplayer. First off, the people that are saying it's an expansion pack to MW2 are just plain wrong. There are at least 15 new weapons and 16 NEW MAPS!! A total new killstreak system and some new gametypes totally render that argument obsolete. With that said, why fix a core multiplayer when millions of people loved MW2? I guarantee you if they totally revamped the MP the same people would be complaining that it was too different, so there really is no pleasing you guys. That said, if you didn't look at the title you would have a hard time telling the difference between MW2 and MW3 graphics. Activision might have cut some corners in that respect. A few things I've noticed about the MP is that there aren't enough complex and wide open maps, too many CQB maps. A few too many overpowered dominating weapons (Type 95, MP7). And grenades are a little too underpowered. That being said there are plenty of changes to LOVE from MW2. First, the idea of pointstreaks is brilliant, it encourages team play and lets players who arent going to get 10 kills in a row still able to help the team in some way. Second the idea of adding weapon XP in addition to regular XP is also smart, and not those ridiculous challenges for 1000 headshots with every gun. (Honestly who does that?) Third, the fact that they made grenade launchers "noobtubes" as ineffective as they are might be one of the smartest and series saving moves a developer has ever made. SOOOO many people were turned off at MW2 because all 12 people were using them. All in all the MP is in a way the same but also in a way a totally new and refreshing experience. If you didn't like Cod multiplayer before you're not going to like it now, and if you were one of the many that did, I think you will really enjoy this new take on killstreaks. MP gets an 8/10. So contrary to all of the people saying it's not worth 60 dollars, it is definitely worth 60 dollars. Modern Warfare 3 won't blow you away like MW2 did, but it makes enough subtle changes to earn the right to be called MW3 and not MW2.5. Overall this game would get a 7 out of 10 from me. Expand

The music score is average for the gaming industry. Weapon sounds are the worst of the series and contain little to no depth. Sound blending is also poor and could use more options in menus. Voice acting is well done.

    Gameplay
As stated in presentation, the campaign story is not very good, but the environments are varied and detailed. The developers should have taken some cues from the last game of the franchise and removed the action button prompt in cutscenes; it ruins the flow of the game. The multiplayer is well balanced, but contains so many lag related issues it is unplayable competitively. Spec Ops is improved with more missions and survival mode.

I understand the gripes of people wishing for a brand new experience, but until this game turns into Future Warfare, or Musket Warfare, I think it's safe to say that the core experience will remain the same for at least a few more years. This game is worthy of an 8, solid gameplay mechanics, solid graphics, an accessible multiplayer experience. All of these things are taken for granted in the overcrowded genre. Expand

Year after year, the next release of the new Call of Duty is so highly anticipated but every year, the game seems to disappoint. Why the gaming community even supports this mutilation of this once great series is the only thing that surprises me. Gameplay is formulaic and unoriginal. The learning curve is incredibly low which leads to incredibly frustrating game mechanics. Killstreaks are overpowered and most perks only add to the problem. The game is literally just a remake of modern warfare 2 with several new skins. Maps feel hastily assembled and weapons don't give you the same feeling that firing weapons in Call of Duty 4 did. Ever since World at War, Call of Duty has not been on a steady, but very, very sharp decline. Coming from a member of the PC community, we have largely been ignored and tossed aside. Customization and modifications are impossible to accomplish anymore and everything that made Call of Duty 4 from a good game into a great game are missing from MW3. The only thing worth getting this game for is the Single Player which isn't amazing either. It has a very low replay value and lasts a very short 6 hours. The money you spend on this game could go to a great deal of other games that deliver the true gaming experience that many have been searching for in Call of Duty. I plan to give an honest review of Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3, I have seen very in the middle reviews, most are in the extremes of either 10s or 0s, 0 being the more prevalent. My review will be broken down in three branches, one for each of the three main sections of the game. As everyone else giving a review has pointed out, MW3 was built using the same engine was MW2, and because of that, the visuals aren't what you'd expect from the third game in series (I'm talking Modern Warfare series, not the Call of Duty series in general) . The graphics do look a bit more polished, but that is most likely do to the artists, then the engine drawing them. Campaign: I just finished the campaign on Veteran difficulty. The campaign in terms of story is by far one of the best I have ever played in the Call of Duty franchise, but that is not to say I couldn't predict it either. On the final missions, the music is so perfectly made for the scene that it boosts up what would otherwise be a lackluster finale to the series. All together though, the campaign took me for a ride that I will never forget, at the end of it, I did actually feel very entertained and amazed. However, the atrocities that has plagued every Modern Warfare game still exists in MW3, by which I mean, enemies will disregard their own safety to rush past your A.I teammates and charge for you, and only you. The enemies know where you are, and if in view will shoot only for you and not at your other A.I teammates. Your A.I teammates aren't intelligent by any means, even on Veteran difficulty they are terrible accuracy. Perhaps the most annoying thing though is the fact that the enemies will infinitely spawn from doors and behind buildings unless you continue to move up, if you sit back you eventually will die from running low on ammo. Special Ops:Special Ops was a new feature to MW2, and it was a brilliant innovation to the series, Infinity Ward and Sledge Hammer Games didn't break the imagine barrier here, they added their own version of Zombies, a Treyarch signature. MW3 has taken that idea and brought it into the Modern Warfare perspective by instead of zombies, it's wave after wave of increasingly difficult soldiers. They added a couple new features like being able to buy perks and artillery, but it isn't anything new to the franchise, it's a mix from Treyarch's zombies and GOW's Horde 2.0 fortifications in my personal opinion. The rest of Spec Ops allows you to either go in alone, or team up with a buddy to do a variety of missions taken from the campaign or specially created for Spec Ops and try and beat them for, both to earn stars (get all stars to get an achievement) and beat times set by your friends. Multiplayer: Obviously if you're buying a CoD game, you aren't just buying it for the story line, you are buying it to play some good old competitive multiplayer. As one reviewer put it, it looks and feels like MW 2.5, and I'd agree, I do feel like I dropped 60 dollars for new maps, that's about it. Sure you do have some new guns and perks, but that doesn't constitute the money I put down for it. They tried to do too much with the maps this time around, their are about five different ways to go to any one spot, or in any one alleyway you may be running down and the the chances that someone isn't waiting for you, or will spot you is low, and it gets aggravating very quickly. Two of my personal problems with the game are, they split up the Sleight of Hand Pro ability from Modern Warfare 2, and put it's base ability and pro ability into two separate perks. They also took out Stopping Power, my personal favorite perk, why I don't know, perhaps to balance the game, but even still the game is very very much unbalanced. There are definitively certain guns that are better than others, and without Stopping Power if it's a bad gun, unfortunately it's a bad gun now, because without extra damage you won't kill anyone. Lag is a problem this time around, I've shot at a guy with the same gun as me, only to hit him first, but still die because my other bullets didn't register. The Strike Packages are terrible and not thought through at all, the Support Package where your kill streaks don't reset on death is a nice idea, but bad implementation. UAV's are CONSTANTLY being called in a match, it's very aggravating, also stealth bombers are apart of the Support Package, I don't understand that implementation either. If the Support Package actually did only Support it'd be nice, but with stealth bombers and advanced UAVs, not using it when you know you can get at least 9 kills a game is stupidity. When you think about it, a new CoD has come out yearly with the same fast paced action formula, so the fact that the latest in the series didn't change much shouldn't be that big of a surprise to anyone. I'm giving it a 7 out of 10, for being what MW2 should have been. Expand

The game is lucky it's getting a 1 out of 10. I'm currently in the process of running through the Campaign, and I keep thinking to myself "What's even happening right now?". I'm essentially playing it to get the achievements and get back to Battlefield 3. It's MW2 repackaged, same gun sounds, same computer animations, and same gameplay just in Africa instead of the Favella's of MW2.

I greatly enjoyed the campaigns of CoD 4 and MW2, and could not wait to see how Captain Price and Soap's journey ends. Unfortunately while I believe the campaign was still good, I walked away feeling unfulfilled and disappointed. In Modern Warfare 2's campaign when the Russians invaded the United States and you fought through the backyards of rural Virginia, that gave me the feeling of "Woah... holy **** this is kind of awesome!" just because it was so different than your traditional military shooter missions. Modern Warfare 3's campaign just didn't deliver any of those moments for me. It felt as though the campaign just went through the motions, and hit on way too many of the cliche shooter moments. I have always been someone who has greatly enjoyed the Call of Duty multiplayer experience, and committed hours of my life to it. I was excited to see some of the changes they were making, such as strike packages and weapon leveling because I felt it would mix up the flow. However, after playing eight hours so far of multiplayer, I feel it is more broken than ever. Perhaps it is just me, but it feels like weapons are far too overpowered now, and matches have turned into killstreak fests. For instance I remember in MW2 and Black Ops when getting kill streaks such as a stealth bomber and EMP were difficult and rare. However with the support strike package, these are frequent events in games such as domination. Overall Modern Warfare 3 still a good game in my eyes, but the campaign and changes to MW3 just do not live up to the hype they received. While many people may be complaining about the lack of innovation /change or that it's MW2.5, I am complaining because of the unbalanced feel to multiplayer and the campaign that is such a major let down after what I feel was an absolutely terrific MW2 campaign. As much as I love Captain Price and Soap, this game just wasn't able to do them justice. Expand

So they just can't seem to one-up themselves since COD4 sure the multiplayer formula works, its addictive, and fun until you start getting s****ed on, but it would be nice to see some major improvements other than the ridiculous killstreaks and just making old pro-perks an entirely new perk now, some, if any groundbreaking originality would be nice two sequels later (from IW). The maps are finally back to how they used to be no more of the huge sightlines and too many spots to go prone in so its not a heaven for skill-less, hardscoping, thermal-loving snipers (not that I'm a pro sniper) good old close encounters and still plenty of open space to run around in is the foundation for good maps in my opinion. I would say these are the best launch maps seen in any cod game (treyarch or IW) since cod4, and just about all the game modes are playable on every map, something I haven't seen for a while in the cod series.

As for the campaign its nice to finally see the conclusion to the MW "story" if you can even call it that but this was absolutely, by far the worst campaign I have ever played in the cod series and ive played all cod's since cod2 all the way through MW3. The campaign missions are all so repetetive; follow the squad leader through this linear war-torn street while the enemies just run out to their slaughter from the left side to the right one by one and go to the same spots they ran to the last 15 times you played this mission. The whole war-torn street thing gets kind of old by the 4th mission thats not task force 141 (they're missions actually are okay but still much of the same, 3 guys killing 1,000,000 stupid mofos that get in their way and no matter how surrounded they get they always make it out just about unscathed.

All in all if your looking for the same good ol' time we've been forcefed for the 5th time now since cod4 then go ahead and buy it I don't blame you I borrowed it from a friend for about a week and now im convinced i actually want to buy it just because I actually enjoy the multiplayer for the first time since cod4. But by no means is this game worthy of even being whispered in the GOTY race it just doesn't change enough, even though it is nice to actually see some of the rampant hacking that quickly overtook and destroyed mw2 gone, the game just doesn't offer a deffinitively new experience like cod4 did back in '07. And just because I would personally like to see some dramatic change or at the very least some new groundbreaking aspect that reinvents the series and the genre it helped bolster instead of riding the same wave of success, and also I want to send a message to the developers and producers that somethings gotta give and we deserve some change for the good eventually after pouring out $60 every year for basically a title update to cod4 the game to me really deserves a 6.5/10 but for the sake of attempting to send a message I'm giving it a 0 on here.

From a fun perspective this game honestly isnt that bad,but since it plays almost exactly the same as mw2 thats not a surprise or anything. To put it as bluntly as i can: they cannot release a game that offers minor changes to perks, killstreaks and maps and simply slap a 3 on the box. This is mw2 with minor changes, yet for some bizarre reason costs as much as a "new" game. I do not give this game a zero to be an **** i do it for the series own good. This series MUST adapt to survive. It is no longer acceptable to release half baked rehashed games over and over again. Get your house in order activision, or eventually the money faucet that is your annual november cod release is in jeopardy. Expand

Modern Warfare 3 is pretty much the same game as MW2, and quite similar to MW1. The graphics are similar to MW2, the gameplay is essentially unchanged, and there's nothing else to speak of that is different. That doesn't mean the game is unplayable. To the contrary, its a smooth FPS, but entirely mechanistic: you might as well be shooting pop-up targets in between cutscenes. I don't know why its so hard to simply produce high quality textures and graphic components and then downscale for the obsolete consoles, but it seems that this game takes the opposite approach: which is why a graphics card that you could buy for $50 four years ago (the Nvidia 8600) is still the required card. Despite what the "recommended" stats might suggest, there's no more eye candy for those with a better system- just higher framerates for those who see 60 frames per second and up. This wouldn't be such an issue if the gameplay or story was involving, but its not. Overall, a mediocre if competent clone.â Expand

First off, let me say that everyone that gives this game a poor score is because they don't think about why they don't like it. They all say "It's the same thing everytime" That is somewhat true. I believe this is a great game, but not the same kind of great when I bought my first Call Of Duty, COD 4. I got it right before MW2, so I didn't put so much time into it until months after I got MW2. But COD 4 got me used to Call Of Duty. I wasn't so competitve during COD 4 or MW2, I mainly had fun and just messed around. But then Black Ops came out and I waited for Midnight Release. I swear everyday after school I would come home and play it, and I was extremely competive. (K/D and winloss) During the summer I hit 15th prestige and anxiously awaited MW3. Truth is, I have no motivation to play this game. I like to win, but why be so competitive that when the next game comes out no one cares about the last one. So basically, the multiplayer is the same thing that brought me into MW3, while attracting new people. The campaign story is great, but ending is sorta dissapointment. If you are new to Call Of Duty, this is deff. a fresh game. Expand

Call of Duty has always produced great games. I played the original COD on the PC and slowly migrated to the Xbox, playing every COD along the way. I don't understand why there are so many negative scores for this game. It's Call of Duty. All of these people saying that they didn't do anything different, the graphics are the same, the game is similar to modern-warfare and mw2, they are right. But there is one thing that every Call of Duty game is as well: fun. When you buy a Call of Duty game, you know you are going to have fun whenever you play it, and that is exactly what you get with MW3. Battlefield 3 is the same as Bad Company 2, Skyrim has more noticeable changes but the formula is the same, Gears 3 is basically the same game with some additions, and all of these games are good too, so the poor user reviews don't make any sense. Return the game and quit complaining while the rest of us will be playing in some awesome online warfare. Haters gonna hate. Expand

I give this game a 0 because it is doing absolutely nothing for the gaming industry. You have remarkable games out there like skyward sword, skyrim, battlefield 3, and dark souls that all put a tremendous amount of original content and then you have this game that is effectively the same game as mw2. You want this game? get one of the earlier CoD games because this game is nothing new.

I'll admit, I went into this game with a heap of skepticism after reading about it in Game Informer, but bought it at midnight anyways. I couldn't have been more disappointed, despite the fact taht I knew what I was getting into. The game feels like Modern Warfare 2.5, with just a few changes to the multiplayer. The new killstreak system is a cool new edition, but because of how easy it is to get a UAV, you are almost forced to use Assassin as your second perk. I was also disappointed to hear the same soundtrack. When I leveled up for the first time, and heard that same exact guitar sound, I couldn't help but groan. The graphics are one of the most frustrating things in the game. It's ridiculous that a game that proclaimed itself the most anticipated release of the year to not even be on par with some of the year's best graphics (ie. Skyrim or Battlefield). So why is it rated a 7? I will be completely honest. The fact that everyone bought this game, including the people on my friend's list, makes this game fun. That is honestly why I don't find myself playing Battlefield more, seeing as it is easily a better game. Oh, and I cannot be proclaimed a fanboy. Battlefield 3 was the first in the series that I had actually bought, while I had bought the past 3 COD titles. So, in other words, I used to be a COD fan. I even used to care about my K/D ratio, but since I don't even like this game, I spend the majority of the time pissing people off in Search and Destroy. I honestly think that people's 0 ratings are justified, because you need to counter out the people who ridiculously rated it a 10. Also, shame on the "professional critics" who rated this game 100 out of 100. You cannot call yourself a gamer and not see all the flaws in this game. This game lacks innovation, and is just a copy/paste of other successful games. Go play a private match and tell me where they got the ideas of Infection, Gun Game and One in the Chamber. Survival is the same, but I won't fault them since every FPS seems to be getting some kind of survival mode. However, this survival mode is a bit lame, seeing as you play on multiplayer maps, rather than maps created exclusively for this game mode, like Nazi Zombies was. If this was the first in a series, this would be a terrific game, and one I would recommend everyone buy. However, seeing as this is the 3rd Modern Warfare release, I see no reason why this game is heralded by so many people.

The fact that Modern Warfare 3 has a 3.2 right now on user reviews is a bit ridiculous. First of all, the game really is not that bad. The story is still as over the top as ever and is quite enjoyable. (More so than Battlefield 3 for sure) Spec Ops is still a fun little addition to the game that got a lot of love in innovative new scenarios that are a bit more interesting and challenging than the previous go round. Now, having that said I can see why people are complaining that this game is not innovative. It is not innovative. That is my only complaint about this game and hopefully the next Call of Duty will add something more. The novelty of the Call of Duty series is slowly dying away. Expand

Overall, MW3 is a decent entry in the series, although it lacks some of the coherence of earlier installments. While MW2 and, to an extent, MW, set up clearly delineated plots following individuals through effective story arcs, MW3 bounces around a little too much, taking you to exotic locales, certainly, but seemingly only because they wanted to be able to say the game takes place in the US, Paris, London, and everywhere else. The resolution to a major series arc, the invasion of the US, is rushed and largely ignored. The campaign is chaotically structured, which helps keep the player off-balance, but also prevents a large degree of emotional investment in any of the played characters or, for that matter, the situation the world is in.
That said, the gameplay is solid, just as it was in MW2. This is no accident; no substantial changes occurred to the engine, so MW2 players will be able to pick up MW3 without any difficulty at all. The game is relatively entertaining and provides enough variety to keep your interest through its campaign.
Unfortunately, that doesn't mean much. The campaign is depressingly short, about eight hours. For a $60 game, this is too short by half, shorter even than MW2. In truth, it feels more like a long DLC rather than an installment in the series. For campaign players, though, it's a solid game, good adventure, and has enough spice to make it fun. It is on the short side, but manages to close the story without feeling rushed. Consider waiting until prices fall somewhat, though, if you're not keen on multiplayer.

It sucks, nuf said. Its just a copy of every other shooter out there. I can't believe Activision is making billions of dollars of of this, it just isn't fair to good games.

Ultimately, Modern Warfare 3 feels similar to it's brethren, but that doesn't mean it isn't a great game. The single player element is still exciting, and multiplayer has more options than ever – if you're a fan of Call of Duty, Modern Warfare 3 is a no brainer.

Modern Warfare 3, while still an excellent thrill ride in its own right, feels far too similar to MW2 or even Black Ops for my taste.
  3. I never expected Modern Warfare 3 to go toe-to-toe with EA's juggernaut this year, but it came out of the gates with a tour de force campaign and co-op mode. It loses points with a perhaps too-familiar multiplayer that caters to the juvenile on Xbox Live; though don't be mistaken, Modern Warfare 3 is one hell of a shooter and a highlight for a series that just won't die – no matter how much we wish it bloody would, at times.
