The problem with Modern Warfare 3, is that it's essentially Modern Warfare 2.5. It's not that it's too much of the same thing. I would have been fine with that if it wasn't for all the little changes that make varied styles of gameplay in this version of MW downright unenjoyable. I've read complaints comparing MW3 to an overpriced expansion pack; those comments may well be deserved. But my biggest beef about this game is that the little perks that made varied styles of play work in MW2 have changed or are gone completely (too many to name here). Further, with the style of maps created for MW3 and with the aforementioned changes in perks, the game is now a "gift" to campers and snipers (what I always thought was a lazy and boring style of play). I was a 3 or 4 to 1 K/D player in the previous versions but if I'm going to even come close to 2 to 1 in MW3, I have to camp or snipe. That goes for EVERY map, not just two or three. I'm glad I didn't sell back my copy of MW2. I may just go back to playing it until the next big thing comes along. Expand

To be honest I feel pretty bad giving this game such a low score. If you were to come into the game from a completely neutral standpoint, having never played any COD game before, you'd likely think I was crazy. The game is at least solid, and has no major gamebreaking glitches. For most of us here however, that's just not the case. I started my COD experience on MW2, and it didn't take me long to figure out that OMA Tubing was the way to go. The game was severely broke due to this, yet nothing was ever done to fix it. A simple patch could have been released that would have fixed this in a variety of different ways, but never did. It infuriated me that they pushed DLC but never took just a little time and fixed the gameplay itself - I guess there was no money in that since people were taking in the DLC hook, line, and sinker. To me it's comparable to putting rims on a car that won't start. Fool me once, shame on you. Fool me twice, shame on me. When Black Ops came out I let my friend buy it to see what it was like. Although the tubes were not infinite, the maps were still small and corridor based. They left in last stand, and the p2p latency issues persisted - including the dashboarding. If you're not aware, on the Xbox 360 if the host hits the guide button and then hits Y to go to the dashboard, it will drop the game and not migrate host. Spawning was still terrible, too, with people spawning behind you or vice versa. I had my share of unfair spawns on the enemy and I just cringed as I knifed them in the back after spawning less than 5 - 10 feet behind them, knowing that the same would later happen to me. Anyhow, this is a review of MW3 and it is pretty much the same as MW2. If you ask someone who plays MW2 and MW3 they may say the difference is night and day, and I'm sure it can be since comparisons are always relative of the scope. If you open up the comparison to include all games, the two are nearly identical. Sure there are no infinite tubes and the killstreaks are different, but what else? The core gameplay is completely unchanged, to include the horrible spawning from MW2 and Black Ops. And unfortunately the maps are actually getting smaller. Sniping was never great in MW2 except for possibly quickscoping, which is just a childish concept anyhow. Now that the maps keep getting smaller it is getting ever more useless.

I have not played the campaign. I did play the MW2 campaign and from what I've read the MW3 campaign is pretty much the same. If you thought the MW2 campaign was good, then... you should probably do a swan dive onto cement. It was so bad it nearly made my brain explode just playing through it - and that's just the silly over-dramatic cutscenes. The gameplay is quite honestly the most childish, unbelievable, super-charged piece of trash I've ever played. I don't know how much experience any of the kids that play it have had with the military, but as a veteran I am appalled. Some of the missions from MW2 would have you running and gunning as one man killing nearly a hundred other soldiers. All with completely scripted events and no real need for tactics. Pathetic. If you want to play a FPS that has a good single player campaign on the Xbox 360, then play Operation Flashpoint: Dragon Rising. It's $20 on games on demand, and worth every penny. Do not confuse it with Operation Flashpoint: Red River, which is in fact a fresh steaming turd.

So after having played MW3 it didn't take me long to realize what they are doing is actually just trying to cycle out a game every year like sports games. I suppose they realized what a cash grab those were and that there was an audience dumb enough to buy those games that could also be exploited for FPS games. Just save your money if you aren't interested in annual installments of the same rehashed game. In the case that you do want annual installments of the same old stuff, then I'm assuming you fall into the 25% of Americans that are retarded. In which case I doubt you made it past the first few sentences without stuttering, and certainly haven't read this far, which makes the point moot.

The new weapons are cool and all but once you prestige 1 time the game is very ho-hum. You basically have to pick a couple weapons and use them the entire time if you would like to max them out. Respawning drops you into a lot of situations where you get spawn killed. Also the usual "drop you into a match where you are on the losing team and the other team needs 2 kills to win" scenario is still very common. If COD games send your blood pressure through the roof maybe pass on this one or get you doctor to give you some xanax. I rate i low because I will probably sell it in the next few days. This game proves that Infinity Ward is stubborn and is now the inferior development company to Treyarch. Treyarch had a lot of good ideas that were implemented in Black Ops that are totally ignored in MW3 and are very obvious. The first one that comes to mind is the point reward system for assists and last stand kills. Assists in MW3 are not subject to how much damage you did to the enemy before they were killed. This means either the Development team at IW either had their head so far up their asses that they didn't know that Treyarch changed this system, or they are stubborn and had to have it their way which now is a huge step backwards. Also last stand kills were changed to the old annoying system where you miss out on the kill if you don't shoot the person while they are on last stand. IW needs to get with the times and make these changes or they are going to loose fan base and ruin the COD name. Many of the broken aspects of MW3 aren't even fixable via updates now. The maps in MW3 are much inferior to BO. There are no good vantage points, no interesting indoor combat, and no sense of a battlefront on the map anywhere. Spawning has to do a lot with this as well, but the maps need to be well laid out for the spawning to work properly. The only thoughtful addition to this game is the Support Strike Package. Which I think offers a good alternative to people who are less serious about the game and like for their kills to tally despite a death. This addition is a good idea, but its a feeble attempt at trying to cater to these types of players. MW games are becoming too run and gun and too fast. Many people are impatient with this game, and COD is loosing a lot of players due to the anxiety attack this game can give players. Between the small maps, offensively close proximity spawning, and "quickscoping", people are dropping their controllers in favour of TV programs and movies. The speed and spawning of this game is actually offensive to me as a FPS lover. Its like IW wasn't sure that their new game was going to be good so they simply made the spawning closer together and the maps even smaller so you could get even more kills. What they didn't realize is that their insecurity actually killed the fun and creativity of the game. Its like IW thinks that us consumers are so retarded and so ADD that we can;t stand to have one second of gameplay where we aren't shooting at someone. When I play this game all I find myself doing is yelling "**** off" at my television. What i mean when I say that is I don't want to see an enemy on the map every half second, I don't want enemies spawning right on my ass constantly, and that despite what IW thinks I actually have the patience to move to a battlefront or take 10 steps before I have to defend against another damn submachine gun. Thanks for being retards IW and ruining what could have been a great creative game. If you treat your customers like retards, they will eventually stop giving you their money. COD is now on the decline thanks to this **** game. Expand

They failed to fix nagging issues from MW2 which have now carried over and are in fact worse. The balance of weaponry is pitiful in my view and the maps are absolute crap. When I first put in the disk I thought I was playing MW2. The graphics are the same, the weapon unbalance is the same, and the killstreaks are still overpowered. This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. the reason mw2, BO, and? mw3 suck is because they flood the games with stupid **** that nobody wants. cod4 was good because it was straight-forward and simple

If you're comparing it to the other Modern Warfare titles, it sucks. The graphics have somehow gotten WORSE since Modern Warfare 2. They made the maps bigger...which is a fail because Call of Duty is all about fast paced action, and there's nothing fast pace about trying to find enemies. None of the maps even seem well thought out...most of them are random buildings, cars and pipes randomly thrown all over the place. The game is just a mess. This is my last Call of Duty game and I'm strongly considering selling this game. I thought Black Ops sucked, but honestly, it was better than this game.

No, this review is not because I suck at the game. It is based on the fact that I've played Cod 4, Cod 5, MW2 and Black Ops prior to this.

Of course EAdrones never actually played the game for longer than 4 hours, so their "experience" comes from screenshots and videos, which can look a lot like MW2 - the artstyle hasn't changed, but thanks to that, the game can run smoothly on old computers, and also - games are about gameplay, not about the graphics.
And the MW3's gameplay is amazing, like in every CoD. Every multiplayer game you'll play will be packed with action, explosions and firefights, and after every one you'll feel exhausted by the amount of pure fun you just got.

What they've done is taken a great shooter franchise that's quick, accurate and FUN and added a "drawback" to just about every aspect of the game. What I mean is that, in order for them to come up with more new useless perks they had to make that particular aspect of the game slower. Reload times suck so here's sleight of hand. You can't draw your weapon fast enough so here's quickdraw pro and on and on. Throw in the occasional glitch and the game offers up some truly frustrating sequences. Not to mention that the campaign still doesn't crack the 8 hour mark, even on hardened, and Activision proves once again they are full of garbage when they say they focus on both campaign and multiplayer. I'm gonna start out by saying that this game isn't as horrible as all of the negative reviews make it out to be. There is fun to be had in this game but it can get old rather quickly but this varies from person to person. Modern Warfare 3 is not a horrible and nearly unplayable game but at the same time it is not fantastic and was mostly over hyped. Let's start with the single player.I'm gonna start out by saying that this game isn't as horrible as all of the negative reviews make it out to be. There is fun to be had in this game but it can get old rather quickly but this varies from person to person. Modern Warfare 3 is not a horrible and nearly unplayable game but at the same time it is not fantastic and was mostly over hyped. Let's start with the single player. As with the other Call of Duty games the single player is fairly short, lasting about 5 hours (maybe a little less) if you are playing on Recruit or Regular difficulty. On higher difficulties it could last about 6 to 8 hours. The story is a pay-off for the fans who stuck to Call of Duty since the first Modern Warfare. This is the last Modern Warfare of the series. The story for the most part is decent although there are some plot holes that may leave you asking some questions. The campaign is very linear with you being told to follow Captain Price or other people. This is basically the game holding your hand and telling you what to do instead of finding your own way of getting from Point A to Point B. There is some variety however as you will sometime get to control a new weapon or gadget of some sort so the game doesn't feel like a shooting gallery from start to finish even though it is for the most part. The campaign is mostly a thrill ride. You will see and do things that to others seem awesome while others will feel that these epic moments simply fall flat on their faces but there are some "wow" moments that you may like a lot and will remember fondly from the campaign. Next is Spec-Ops. These are basically a series of challenges that you can do alone or with a friend. There is also a new endurance mode called Survival, which is similar to Nazi Zombies from other Call of Duty games except the zombies are soldiers and you must buy weapons from a crate with money you earn from killing enemies and vehicles instead of buying them from a wall. Like most endurance challenges from other games you must survive waves of enemies that continuously get stronger and harder to kill while the player must also make himself stronger by buying weapons and other things such as armor and killstreaks. However, most of these things are locked until you achieve a higher level. Your level in Spec Ops is separate from your level in multiplayer. So you must rank up by playing Spec Ops missions and playing Survival in order to access new guns, killstreaks, armor, etc. As for the missions, they are entertaining while at the same time frustrating. Some missions even let you play a bit of the campaign but from a different perspective. Overall, they are good. Especially when you're with a friend. Now for the meat of the game. The multiplayer. This is probably where your gonna spend most of your time playing this game. Take note that if you've played most of the other Call of Duties from Call of Duty 4 and after then don't expect a great deal of change from the other games. Multiplayer has improved in a few ways but has also become worse in others but the core of the game remains unchanged for the most part. There are plenty of varied game modes to play such as Team Deathmatch, Free-for-All, Headquarters, Domination, Search and Destroy, Demolition, Sabotage, and the new Kill Confirmed gametype. There are also Hardcore Mode and Mercenary variants of each gametype. Along with private matches which have a decent number of gametype customization options so that you can set up gametypes to have fun with friends. Theater mode makes a return from Black Ops where you can record film clips to share with friends and such. There is also the weapon proficiency which let's you level up your gun to earn new attachments, camos, and perks. This is better than Modern Warfare 2's way of getting attatchments and camos since you just have to level up the gun itself to get attachments and camos instead of using the gun in a specific way to get what you want. Such as killing people through walls with FMJ to get extended magazines for your assault rifle and getting headshots for camos. At the same time this is worse than Black Ops since most of the attachments and camos are preference. In Black Ops you could spend CoD Points to buy the attachment or camo that you want instead of leveling up for it. Killstreaks are split into strike packages. You have Assault, Support, and Specialist. Assault and Specialist work similarly where if you do good then you do better with momentum. Assault has killstreaks that work in an offensive manner while Specialist will give you additional perks of your choosing with kills. Support is self explanatory the only exception is that you have point streaks which carry over even after you die. There is some weapon imbalance but this can be fixed through patching. The multiplayer is enjoyable and sometimes addicting but you won't find much new. Expand

If you own an Xbox360, or any other console, then it should be made a crime to not own MW3. It has an epic campaign, which is considered too short, but if they extended it, then it would be boring. The multiplayer is the best yet. Forget Battlefield, sales show MW3 is the remaining champion in gaming. Oorah.

No. No they won't, because whether MW3 is or isn't MW1, it is still an ABSOLUTELY FANTASTIC game in it's own right. Having played through the story earlier, I have no say I was completely in love with the set design; the graphics and locations are impressive. Yes, Battlefield 3 is better in that area, but I'd sacrifice graphics for gameplay every day of the week. The missions you complete in the story are all too familiar (AC-130, Stealth, Breaches), but as the old saying goes, "Why fix what isn't broken?" Now, I haven't had a chance to play Spec Ops as of yet, but having asked a few friends, they really enjoy the Survival mode, something I'll admit I'm looking forward to. In terms of Online Multiplayer, it's the same game as the previous two titles, and that is a good thing. Sure, there are problems. Sure, some weapons need to be nerfed. But weapons in this game feel "right". They shoot as you want them to, as they are expected to. Kills are satisfying, as they were in MW1 (With that R700 ACOG we all know and love). No, it's not as good as MW1, but damn sure is this game better than Black Ops, and, if you don't compare it to MW1, one of the games of the year. A little unhappy about the scene with the couple and their little daughter in London; that half-a-second turn of events put the entire "No Russian" mission to shame. I've never had an issue with anything in a game, but kudos to Infinity Ward for making a genuinely moving piece of horrifying gaming that made me very, very uncomfortable. Expand

I picked up MW3 at midnight the day it came out, expecting something new and innovative. I was looking forward to the new Special Ops Survival Mode and a more rehashed multiplayer experience. The month of play that ensued was a colossal letdown.

First off, the campaign. Despite being an average joe when it comes to beating campaigns, I was able to effortlessly roll through veteran campaign within a matter of hours. Does the challenge even start? Also, the campaign overall just looks like a recycled version of MW2 campaign.

Secondly, Spec Ops. Survival Mode is fun and challenging at times, but it does get boring after a while and doesn't even come close to the excitement and challenge of Nazi Zombies. Mission Mode is basically MW2 Spec Ops Part II. I do like the ranking system; however, after you hit 50 you become bored with Spec Ops mode extremely quickly, as there basically is nothing left to do.

Finally, the part we've all been waiting for, multiplayer. Let's just say that multiplayer is a copy-and-paste of MW2 multiplayer, except with next to no new features added and a bunchload more problems. The only real things I like about the prestige shop are the opportunity for double xp whenever you want and the ability to unlock a weapon early. Everything else is garbage. I mean, who wants to work a whole prestige for a token that gets you nothing but a stupid title? And I liked being able to earn custom classes; however, since many people hardly ever use extra custom classes, having to spend a token on them seems like a waste.

Then we have the gameplay. And boy, does it suck ass. The first and most obvious problem: the lag. I'm usually rocking 4 bars; this does nothing to account for the tremendous difference between what I see in game and what I see on the killcam. Much more often than before, I'm emptying half my clip into enemies that eventually kill me, yet when I look at the killcam, I just stood there without even taking a shot. Next is the spawning. There are many instances where I will spawn near a battle (or even in the line of fire sometimes) and will be dead within 3 seconds of spawning. Also, I have never before been killed so many times by enemies spawning behind me. The hit detection system is also garbage. There have been many times where I've been shot in the chest (killcam for proof) and the game counts it as a headshot on me. Also, knifing the air behind an enemy or sniping/quickscoping the airspace where I was 2 seconds ago shouldn't still be counted as a kill. Finally, the weapons and killstreaks (and also the maps). The weapons are almost exactly the same as they were in MW2, except for the Type 95 and PP90M1. These weapons give me fits, as both of them kill in basically 1 shot, making them an excellent choice for campers/spawn campers/corner campers. Shotguns, especially the Striker, are way overpowered too. Also, if you trigger the IMS but you manage to run 50 feet away or behind a wall, you shouldn't still have to die. The support killstreaks are a joke, now any scrub who plays the game can get an EMP or juggernaut armor in a flash (even while going negative...which reminds me, this game places way too much emphasis on kdr as compared to other cod titles...). The maps and graphics are basically just a copy-paste of MW2 maps, except that there's more corners to camp in and more cheap flanking routes *facepalm*.

Overall, unless you're a really die hard cod fanboy (and I mean 10th/15th prestige every game die hard), then don't waste your money, especially on Elite. Your hard-earned cash is better spent on more remarkable games such as BF3 and Skyrim.

For the most part, the CoD series (minus World@War), is the main reason I renew my XBL subscription every year. Sure I played the MW3 campaign, which was ridiculously short, but it was still a semi good campaign. I like how they tied certain events from MW and MW2 into this one. But the main reason I got this game was for the online matchmaking. The very first night / morning (That tuesday around 01:00 Eastern time), I hopped online and stated playing. Something didn't feel quite right. I thought to myself that it was just because I had been playing Black Ops for so long, I had to just get used to it and give it a shot.

Well, as far as online play goes, I have invested 44+ hours of actual game time into this thing called a game and I can say I am very disappointed. I will list the reasons why:

*Maps are just a big cluster **c* with no real structure to them.
*The audio seemed to take a huge step back from MW2.
*Graphics are the same as MW2.
*Not having an in game "combat record" like BlackOps did.(that was so nice)
    *Some obviously overpowered guns
*Heartbeat sensor!.....really? picking up a heartbeat over explosions and gunfire...okay.

    AND THE BIG ONE
*"lag compensation". ------I too am infected with this disease called lag compensation. When hard wired, I see around 63-65Mb/D---9-15Mb/U. There have been so many instances in which I shoot right at a guy, just to die from him and watch the killcam to see no bullets come out from my gun. Hell; sometimes I do not even turn and look at the enemy. I have adjusted port settings, DMZ, QOS, and even running a wireless connection in attempts to fix this on my end to no avail. Running wireless seemed to help a bit, but it was still terrible.

Besides World at War, I have never played a CoD (and a modern warfare at that) game and rage quit as many times as this game. And this all revolves around this "lag compensation". I didn't like World at War online enough to rage quit. Just clearing that up.

Now when I go to my girlfriends house and play on her xbox and ISP (around 7Mb/D---1Mb/U), I run around on what appears to be god mode on speed. On my girlfriends XBOX, I never get killed in those WTF moments where I fire 2 shots from the MK14(2 shots will normally kill when shot in chest) at a guy who is 90 degrees perpendicular to me and completely static just to die from him and see I did not even fire the gun. Several people I know have the same issue.

)(((((()))))The game did have some things I liked, though none of them are the gameplay directly.
*Not having to do stupid things for Pro Perks like BlackOps did
*Killstreak tier system-and the new killstreaks.
*Matchmaking itself. Seems to find lobbies much easier than MW2 did.
    ---Thats about it actually.lol

:::::I loved almost everything about MW2 minus the small matchmaking issues ( losing people in parties esp.) But as far as the gaming itself, I LOVED IT. I only played hardcore and I remember the times I could boot up MW2 and actually have fun whether I was playing solo, with a party, sniping, camping, run-and-gunning. For the most part, I liked all the maps unlike MW3 where I think the is 2 maps I like. In my opinion, they took something decent(MW2), created crap maps and horrible audio, and released this MW2 expansion patch dubbed Modern Warfare3.

I wonder so often how this would have turned out if Sledgehammer had not taken over(Yes I know 'Infinity Ward' still contributed), but this game does not have the Infinity Ward vibe I have become so used to.

Unfortunately, I am still going to play this game only because everyone I know IRL plays it. But unless they fix this "LAG COMPENSATION", I will be trading this game in for Skyrim and I will never buy a CoD game from these guys again. I guess I will convert to Treyarch.

So, just fix that and release a map pack with most of the maps from MW1&2. Because the layout of the maps you have created and most likely the ones coming out in the DLC suck and/or will suck.

I pay too much for a good/high bandwidth ISP, just for you to penalize me and reward those with 56K converter modems. Because that is basically what you have done. The idea sounds good, but does not work at all in pratice.

MW2 was great, I admit I spent weeks on the multiplayer. Good choice of weapons, fun maps, no camper/runner and gunner bias. But look out... Here comes MW3, the next installation to the MW franchise crapped out by the joint works of IW/SG. Of course the hype is going to be skyrocketing. People are going to buy it no matter what. The devs are just jerkin' off now.

What happened here? Where did the simplicity yet fun aspect of the previous COD's go? Overclustered menus, ridiculously small maps with way too many invisible barriers that don't even make sense, still havent fixed the broken perspective problem thats been in every single COD, pasted graphics and the list goes on. This isnt MW3. This is a MW2 DLC. Do yourself a favour and do not buy this game. I'm fed up with it.

The gameplay has a great level of diversity and though it does follow the usual aspects of the FPS, there is a lot more creativity in the level design and set pieces. The multiplayer is technically more of the same, but when you are talking about one of the most robust multiplayer games in the market that is not a complaint.

Look, I aim to look at games objectively. I am not going to rag on Battlefield 3, but I am going to say that its fans who give this game 0's and low scores without a good reason why other than "it's more of the same" need to get a life. Battlefield 3 is ALSO more of the same, as it follows not only the same principles of previous Battlefield games but also the standard ALL FPS games do! A game does not have to be 100% revolutionary to feel fresh and new. Battlefield 3 can still be a good game and Modern Warfare 3 can still be a good game. Where you lean towards more is just a matter of preference. Me? I prefer superior single player to superior multiplayer any day so I lean more towards Modern Warfare 3.

Awful, hardly different to the previous call of duty and the one before that, this is what is wrong with the industry, they just churn out the same rubbish game with very little difference and the public just eat it up and it sells, nobody wants to take risks anymore. It warms my heart to see this game get thrown down in the reviews.

If you liked the last 2 MW games, you will probably like this one. Multiplayer is the emphasis, Single player is fairly short, but fun. The replay value comes from the multiplayer and the special operations. Personally I would like to see more spec ops. The only reason I lowered its score is the length of the single player campaign, I would have liked a good bit more to play through.

I predicted everything that would happen, such as Soap dying and Makarov dying, so there are no real plot twists or anything to keep you interested in playing. The Multiplayer itself is a train wreck. It's like they took Modern Warfare 2's horrendous multiplayer, and combined it with the worst aspects of Black Ops' multiplayer, Poor hit detection registry, unbalanced guns, poorly designed maps, quickscoping being supported, and to top of this bullsh*t sundae, a spawning system so bad it puts Modern Warfare 2's spawn system to shame. You can LITERALLY spawn right next to an enemy, walk two steps and die immediately ( this happened to me three times in a row. No **** the weapon leveling system is frustrating, and you don't have the same degree of customization that Black Ops' had. The new survival mode is simply an attempt to emulate Halo's firefight, or Gears or War's horde mode, and got boring almost immediately. It's indescribably easy, and nothing really interesting about it.

It also goes without saying that the graphics are outdated, and the sounds are awful. All in all, stay as FAR away from this travesty of a game as possible.

Never experienced this in another game:You will get killed for having a better connection because the engine estimates that another player having a worse connection then you has only to hit once and you have to hit 3x to land a kill. Also getting shot behind walls is pretty popular. This "feature" also enables bad things like lag switches promoting cheating to a whole new level. Just google it. This really sucks big time. No other COD had this big a problem with lag compensation. Good features introduced by Treyarch were simply undone: like flagpoints getting transparent when you aim behind it. Where are the contracts? Bad matchmaking. One who starts at level 1 directly plays against prestige level 4-5. Great fun. Also all explosives were reduced so drastically that grenades become more of joke. It lands directly besides your enemy but doesn't kill him. How realistic is that?

The map design has already been explained by others. I will simply say that they really doesn't weight up against the Black Ops maps. The other stuff really looks like mw2: No big improvement here. The SP had more wow moments in MW2. Quickly played and quickly finished. No innovation here.

The game itself is not terrible, but the bad spawn system, bad maps, over powered weapons, and lag don't present a good case for it. The game doesn't deserve a 0, but I'm giving it a 0 for a number of different reasons. 1) The franchise deserves better and trying to pass this off on the loyal fans just to dupe them out of their money is sad. 2) The fact that Glen Schofield tweeted to the fans to come on here and give it a 10 to counter balance the bad reviews is really sad. 3)The fact that it broke sales records not for it's quality, but on name alone is the saddest thing of all. The 0 is not for the game, it's for the lack of integrity both Activision and Infinity Ward possess. This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. I gave it about a month before I wrote a review, and sadly, I'm disappointed. The current set of maps limit the ability to hide and snipe as you were able to in previous games. Lines of sight are limited by buildings, and there aren't many great places to blend into the scenery with a ghillie suit. This forces players to play a more mobile game, favoring spraying bullets over accuracy and patience. For single player, the story was different than what I would have told, but still plays out as an ok action-movie type plot, with nothing particularly special. *SPOILER* The family scene in London offers no emotional gravity. You can see the end coming as soon as the scene starts, and the player is removed from the situation rather than actively involved as in No Russian.

Finally, I use Call of Duty Elite as much as I would use Horse Armor from Oblivion. Except that Horse Armor accurately appeared on the horse whereas Elite incorrectly tracks stats, attributing kills from weapons I've never picked up and miscalculating accuracy on my primary weapons. My disappointment is compounded by the so-called "prizes" offered for the competitions available. Digital Badges aren't prizes, they're unlockables. I paid extra for the chance to win something cool and unique, and instead I essentially get an Achievement.

Hopefully the map-packs will encourage a variety of play-styles, and hopefully Elite will become better utilized.

I have always been a fan of the Call of Duty franchise and I believe that, through the years, Infinity Ward and Treyarch have done a great job creating and developing the Call of Duty universe for us all to enjoy. Being an avid fan of the Modern Warfare trilogy (I dedicated many hours to Modern Warfare 2 over the past two years), I decided to pick up the Hardened Edition of Modern Warfare 3. I did this for a number of reasons, and I have to say the content that came with the game did not disappoint. On to my review of the actual game: Gameplay (8/10): The singleplayer does a great job of tying up the loose ends of the story and ensuring that everybody gets a good ending, from those such as myself who have been following the franchise since CoD4, to people who have picked up Modern Warfare 3 as their first title. I won't spoil it for anybody, but I'm a big appreciator of the CoD storylines and the ending of this even took me by surprise. The story is well-built for the game, even though it still includes some of the 'typical' things you'd expect in a Call of Duty game. Survival and Spec Ops add a fresh feel to the CoD franchise however, and will add lasting value for those not interested in multiplayer. Graphics (6/10): The graphics of this game are by no means BAD. They are crisp and enjoyable and the moments where you need to see the action are full of colour and easy to see. At the same time, with games such as Skyrim and Battlefield 3 raising the bar this year graphically, the Modern Warfare 3 graphics are nothing to write home about. They won't hurt your eyes, but at the same time, they won't knock you out of your seat. Sound (7/10): It has become tradition for me to play Call of Duty singleplayer AND multiplayer with Turtlebeaches, and the only game previous to this deserving of a 5 or higher would be Black Ops, which was very ambient and made you genuinely feel like you were reliving the experience. So we come to Modern Warfare 3, and I must admit, they haven't done a terrible job of the sound in this game. It's crisp, clear and if you listen carefully during the quiet bits, you can hear the background noises. Dogs barking in favelas, people chatting in cities. But therein lies the issue: There are very few moments in this game where things can be classed as 'quiet'. Multiplayer (9/10): This will be the main point of argument for most people. While I don't believe a game should be judged purely off it's multiplayer, let us all be frank for a moment - 90% of people buying Call of Duty will very rarely do so for the singleplayer. The Call of Duty multiplayer is the marmite of the multiplayer world - You either love it, or you hate it. I, personally, have been a long standing fan of the multiplayer in Call of Duty, and I'm currently 3rd Prestige in Modern Warfare 3. Let me state something as of now: If you preferred the long-sighted maps on MW2, where you could take your time, then don't count on MW3 to do much for you. Currently (In the foreseeable future with maps, this may change.) the MW3 multiplayer caters to the sugar-rush, ADHD 13 year old, who enjoys running everywhere with an SMG/Shotgun, gunning 4 people down, and running off. Assault rifles and LMGs are useable, but if you can't quickscope you won't find much in the way of sniping here. Lasting value (5/10 w/o multiplayer, 8/10 w/): Call of Duty has never been known for it's singleplayer. For most people it's all about the multiplayer, and without it the game is a good 30/40 hour grind before you can see the back of it. Multiplayer is where this game's lasting ability comes into it's own. A singleplayer adventure, this is not. Final comments: Call of Duty is what it is. With the seventh installment comes very little in the way of new ground. If you've been a fan for a long time, you know what to expect and you're likely to already be enjoying it. If you're not interested in the multiplayer and only want a singleplayer experience, you're probably better looking to Skyrim or some other singleplayer build. For those who enjoy a fast-paced FPS however, do not let the hundreds of negative comments (that clearly haven't been thought out) put you off. Call of Duty is a great game in it's own right, you just have to give it a chance. Expand

    Reasons I gave MW3 a 5.
    1) Why can i jump up on one dumpster but not a different one in the same map? Zero continuity, this problem has bugged me from mw2 and BO.
    2) I can run up over a ledge or something but a small object on the ground stops me dead in my tracks? Really! 3) Can I please just have a playlist that connects me to the fastest (lowest ping) game what ever that game is. > 125

Do not recommend buying. do not waste your money.

The reason why the users (including myself) are giving the game such a low score is because this game is just another ploy at cashing in on the CoD franchise. There is so little innovation in the game that you would have to be a fool to think otherwise.

I should have simply kept Modern Warfare 2 (I would have if the game wouldn't have been so broken and made me so angry that I decided to trade it in [did I tell you yet that all of the same problems from Mw2 are in MW3???]. I could have had the SAME EXACT experience with it or Black Ops without spending another 60 dollars (not counting the elite pack, and the new DLC which is sure to follow...and weren't they talking about charging players a monthly fee? lol yeah good luck with that now infinity ward).

This game (along with a few other recent games released for the 360) has actually done me a favor: other than losing the initial money paid for buying these re-hashed cash cows, these games have convinced me that buying these games at full price is the easiest way for me to waste my money in these current tough times. I'm NEVER buying a game at initial release ever again. I should have already learned my lesson from some of the other big name games released lately that re-hashed the same product with a new name and new plastic enveloping the case.

Peer-to-peer connection is absolutely revolting, particularly in a First-Person-Shooter (FPS) leaving someone with a disadvantage in 99% of the games in which I play. FPS were never designed to be played with such considerable amounts of lag. Someone will kill you, and while in your character's eyes you emptied 10 rounds into the enemy, in their eyes you didn't even fire a shot....

    ..simply unacceptable.

There is simply too little innovation in the game to warrant it being a new release. This may have been a financial success for the creators but I can assure you that they will not be as lucky next time (probably a year from now hah) around. I don't know what all of these reviews will do for the popularity of the franchise, but I can promise you that players will not be quite as apt to rush out and buy the next piece of half-developed product. I know that I won't.

The maps themselves are brown and boring as usual, I got no joy from playing any of the maps. The weapon level system is an appalling idea, as you may want a certain attachment straight away but it'll take you 12 levels to reach, even though it's almost identical to the one you got at level 2. The campaign leaves a bad taste in my mouth; it might as well be on rails. Every action you take is rigidly fixed by what the game has decided, and if you do anything different you lose the mission. The story is basic and feels like it was imagined by a 12 year old. The only redeeming feature is Special Ops, where there are some genuinely enjoyable missions. The Survival mode is just a better version of the **** Zombies mode from Black Ops, but that isn't to say it isn't fun. Battlefield 3 is much better than this crap, don't even think ONCE about getting this. Expand

If i could return this to the store i would. I won't say i will never play a COD game again at all. If they update their engine to something up to par with several other actual FPS games adding their fun factor i bet it would rock and i would be addicted to it. And that is because this game was developped in a year. Remember Call of Duty 3? That was developped in a year and look how that turned out. The game re-uses the Modern Warfare 2 engine with a glitter on top. The campaign tries to be good with epic moments and a key character's death, but it really doesn't work. I found myself, like with previous Call of Duty titles, pushing myself to play the campaign, rather than wanting to. And, the ending isn't nearly as satisfying as it should be. Then there's Spec Ops, which can be played in co-op, or if you don't know another human, alone. The missions are basically the same as Modern Warfare 2, not too interesting, but still somewhat satisfying to beat. There's also survival which is just a two-player, simplified zombie mode, and really isn't that great. It's not as in-depth as zombies was, and due to only two players, not nearly as exciting. But, of course with any first-person shooter, the main component is multi-player, and while it may be decent, it's surely not worth $60. There's a couple new game modes like Team Defender (TDM, with a grabbable flag that doubles team score) and Kill Confirmed (when a player dies, they drop dog tags, grab these to score points). As with every Call fo Duty title, it tries to reel you in with new guns, perks and killstreaks, making you think it was a $60 well spent. The guns as usual are fairly unbalanced, you have overpowered weapons (like the Type 95, RIOT shield and pretty much any gun with a modded controller) and useless guns (like the M16A4, LMG's and shotguns). There are some cool guns like an air burst grenade launcher, but like the crossbow/ballistic knife (Black Ops) and Javelin , they're just pointless additions in a poor cry for attention. There aren't any new, interesting perks, besides Cold Blooded being split into two perks (which many people complained that it was overpowered in Black Ops). Killstreaks are the only really revamped feature. There are three types of killstreaks now: Assault (Kill-based, helicopters, airstrikes, missiles etc.), Support (UAV's, EMP's, Stealth Bombers etc., this streak doesn't end unless you switch classes) and Specialist (Get a new perk at certain intervals). While Support had the right idea, encouraging players to rush objectives for score as soon as possible, without worrying about dying. This encouraged players to keep moving and help their team as much as possible. However, Assault and Specialist still pose the issue of camping, rewarding players with overpowered items for staying alive is a clear issue, as it's much easier to stay alive while sitting in a corner, then when sitting, exposed, on an objective. Thus, with the inclusion of the Support Strike Package, there is less camping, but it's still an issue with the other Strike Packages, which generally offer better, kill-based, rewards. The multiplayer is still fast-paced, but actually too much so. You still spawn out of your enemies' asses so you can insta-kill knife them in the back, or get knifed yourself. Objectives are still ignored by the majority fo players, who are more interested in stacking killstreaks and maintaining a high KD ratio. And if you're looking for a team-based game, look away. Don't be fooled by the team modes, there is no teamwork required to succeed in this game, and more times then not, rather then being helped by teammates, you're being called a **** and told to kill yourself for "getting in his way". Call of Duty is getting stale, there are hardly any worthwhile additions each year, if you're lookign for a fun game to play with friends, go get Halo: Reach or Battlefield 3. The private matches offer a few new options, but in the end, are less customizable then Black Ops was, and custom games in Halo are still much better, no contest. The game promotes camping, is the same with a new coat of paint as the last entry (every year, not just Mw3) and really isn't any fun anymore. I would love to see a Call of Duty title that took more than a couple years of work, has a lot of new, worthwhile entries and really reworks the entire multiplayer system. Is Modern Warfare 3 worth buying? If you have Modern Warfare 2 or Black Ops, there's no reason to spend $60 on this, I learned that the hard way. If you're looking for a new game, go check out Battlefield 3. It has learning curve, but give it a chance, it's much more worthy of your hard-earned money than this rushed, and under-developped expansion pack for a two-year old game. Expand

What has your industry gotten of it? I've gotten hours and hours of sub-prime entertainment out of it, if only for the fact that it's popular, and where my clan is. 120$ a year though? Hrmmm, I wonder if it really was worth the price though. You see, this latest installment holds ZERO effort. Have you ever seen a modding community? Have you ever seen what they create? For free? Well, what modding communities do to games whose publishers respect and like their clientele enough to let out modding tools, holds (quite literally) INFINITELY more effort, skill, care, passion and craftsmanship than this 60$ MW2.5 you have sold me. I am going to directly assume that this is EXACTLY why you DON'T put developer tools in, well, ANY of your games. Because the efforts of 16 year olds, up past their bedtimes, would outshine your best developer anyday of the week. I am not going to lie and say that I or my family have not enjoyed it to some extent, we have. Much in the same sense that is someone sold me a chess set for $7000, I would probably enjoy it to some extent, yet be extremely unsatisfied. Not to mention this whole Elite tripe and the DLC f&^%fest that you have planned for us. 20 DLC a year? Wow, thats uhhh, what two and a half weeks to come up with content? What is this content supposed to be exactly? Will it be 15$ for a pink skin for my stock (the barrel being another DLC pack of course)? I would not be surprised at you. And how much of this content was ready at release of the game? If I were the soulless game-industry-destroying c*&^ in charge of managing this crap, I would say 6. 6 of your DLC were like prepared before release, in my thoughts, and that's what? At $15 a piece, its a nice hefty $90 dollars for people to access the rest of this copy paste game. And people will buy it. Call of Duty is the only game name grandma can remember and, "luckily", a "new" one comes out each Christmas. Apparently the brits have about as much taste in video games as they do in food, cuz they're eating this reprocessed fodder right from Kotick's hands. And the reviews...

Maybe years of living with douchebags has made me cynical, but as I started to look through all the undeservedly positive reviews on this site, going to the linked review page, I notice that your advertisement is at the top right of EVERY SINGLE MAJOR REVIEW SITE. Now I'm not saying that this is bribery, in and of itsself, but I am quite interested to hear when these advertising contracts were made, what are the terms of them and, indeed, would they have been removed should your game not have been given such an overwhelming positive review? I am quite certain they would have, and that metacritic would no longer have a link to it. BTW what is this mountain dew **** Im sure even your most loyal of 12 year old fanboys are pissed off by this bulls*&^

In closing, you are a bane on your industry

Your titles show developers that there is no need for innovation or work, if you're greedy enough.

Activision's stock is dropping, and I will have a great laugh, when everyone associated with your company, down to the lowliest intern, is blacklisted and will never work in the industry again. I wish upon you a swift bankruptcy followed by immediate foreclosure, then see you dicks try to pay $140 dollars for a single recycled game.

Ultimately, Modern Warfare 3 feels similar to it's brethren, but that doesn't mean it isn't a great game. The single player element is still exciting, and multiplayer has more options than ever – if you're a fan of Call of Duty, Modern Warfare 3 is a no brainer.

Modern Warfare 3, while still an excellent thrill ride in its own right, feels far too similar to MW2 or even Black Ops for my taste.
  3. I never expected Modern Warfare 3 to go toe-to-toe with EA's juggernaut this year, but it came out of the gates with a tour de force campaign and co-op mode. It loses points with a perhaps too-familiar multiplayer that caters to the juvenile on Xbox Live; though don't be mistaken, Modern Warfare 3 is one hell of a shooter and a highlight for a series that just won't die – no matter how much we wish it bloody would, at times.
