Let us begin with what is new.
There are a few new things but not many, like the new mode Spec Ops.
Spec Ops is some what entertaining, but it will not be the mode you play the most and will probably only play it once or twice and get tired of it.
New single player, but most people buying first person shooters aren't looking for single player, and mainly looking for multiplayer to play with your friends.
What isn't new? Well, I have seen a lot of similar guns in the past Call of Duty.
The maps are very similar, and for some reason every time I get in one, I feel like I have played it numerous times before on a previous CoD.
The graphics are obviously not new, which this may be good in your case if you have a bad graphics card and can not handle games like Skyrim. In my case, it is bad.
The sounds of the guns are not that great, sounds in general isn't that great.

Back to what is new subject, I doubt they put $60 worth of effort into a new single player (which not many people care about), a new game mode which could be coded easily, and a few new guns.
My advise is just wait until Modern Warfare 3 goes to a lower price.

They robbed me from my money, but I will make sure not to buy another one.

The only reason this CoD community has continued on, is from all the middle school kids having their friends play it, so they want to play it and believe it is a good game worth getting.

Final point; If you are 15+ I would suggest you go get another first person shooter because you will not enjoy the community in CoD games, constant kids yelling and screaming, not a good community.
If you are a 8-14 age, I suggest you should get this because you would probably enjoy it.

Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3, the newest and most likely final addition to the Modern Warfare franchise arrived not too long ago, but did it live up to the hype? And is it worth your $60? And is it worth your $60? If you're a hardcore fan of the franchise, maybe. But if you come expecting lots of new and exciting stuff that will make sure you get your moneys worth you'll probably be left feeling unsatisfied. Modern Warfare 3 might have a new coat of paint on it as opposed to MW2, but at its core it is borderline identical. The spawning system is still horrendous, despite how hard Infinity Ward and the other developers of them game have apparently been working to correct them. When I still played this title spawning next to enemies (and I literally mean one maybe two feet away) was a regularity in Free-For-All. It even made its way into team based game modes that could allow you to spawn right in the path of an enemy attack only to die seconds later. There are still overpowered weapons, annoying campers that refuse to leave their corner with a claymore by it,and immature children that shouldn't be even playing the game to begin with. Plus there's more killstreaks that are rather overpowered and MORE DEATHSTREAKS. Robert Bowling, you're a lying pr*ck. You said that Last Stand was no longer in the game, but Final Stand (instead of a pistol you get your primary weapon... freaking lovely...) still remains! As well as Martrydom and the brand new and ridiculous Dead Man's Hand. Another thing to note about this game is that they're still using fake guns and and the same reload animations for almost every one. For the fake guns, I mean the ones that aren't licensed. One of which is the L86 LSW (returning from MW2). That gun does not exist, it is actually the L85A2 which ironically is officially licensed in Battlefield 3. Same goes for the "Barrett .50 Cal". There is no such thing! The real Barrett weapon in the game is the M82A1, but I guess they still can't get the licensing even after 5 or so years. LAME.

As for other aspects of the game, the few new ones there are, they aren't half bad. Some Proficiencies for guns were useful, but some of them were borderline pointless. I don't see why they even bothered to have a Proficiency named Kick to reduce recoil when almost all of the guns people use have next to no real recoil at all. One admittedly good addition was Spec Ops Survival. Survival is based off of the tried and truly fun wave based survival game mode that has been featured in countless games over the years. While it is fun, the co-op is less that enjoyable at times. I tried playing with other friends, close to around 10 matches in total, and around half of them died half way through because of faulty connections that killed the match for no good reason. Plus, when not host, it is truly felt. When I was playing with a friend that typically has a 4 Bar connection I felt like I had a 3 or 2 bar connection making killing enemies a bit more of a source of pain than fun.

Another key topic for this new game is the direct usage of the new CoD ELITE service. This allows users to have new levels of playing, clans, contests for real prizes, and if you're a premium member (which has a costly fee) other things such as getting all map packs for "free" and available vastly earlier than non-premium users. Although I do have a bone to pick with Elite. While I am not a PS3 player, I must say I am truly miffed about Xbox 360 users still getting the map packs before PS3 players even when a lot of PS3 players likely bought their premium membership for the express purpose to be on even ground with the 360 users. Seriously Activision, you REALLY f*cked up there. One of the last things I'll discuss is the campaign. The campaign is arguably one of the best parts of MW3, being filled with plenty of large scale set pieces and a fairly good story. But like the multiplayer, I wasn't entirely satisfied. I more so played through it just to burn some free time rather than actually wanting to play through for the enjoyment of the story.

All in all, compared to other shooters released this year, MW3 is a very sub-par game. It lacks significant new content, it's almost identical to the last two call of Duty iterations, and it's still frustrating to no end. And to those who are competent, you may find that it can be incredibly easy to win. So easy that winning becomes boring. That's right, Call of Duty managed to make winning BORING. *slow clap* Well done, Call of Duty. You achieved something which nothing should ever do. Rating 4/10

I do have to say that in general; I have grown to dislike the Call Of Duty franchise. I was a big fan of COD4 and liked MW2 at the time, but the series's knack for regurgitating the same formula on me every year made me start to move away and play better things (Battlefield?).

I have no time at all for the Treyarch entries and never have done but I've always been curious about what the next Modern Warfare game would be like (although I expected virtually nothing new at all).
I expected to hate it, then somebody bought it for me as a Christmas present. I just finished the campaign and I have to say that even though it still feels like Call Of Duty 4 (in every single way), I was somewhat satisfied with it. I enjoyed how the story continued from the previous games and it helped me kill a few hours.

However I have to say that the multiplayer is exactly what I expected and worse; a montage of complete chaos; requiring virtually zero skill, poor (and repetitive) voiceovers, yet more messy killstreak (or 'pointstreak') rewards and pathetically dated animation (try and watch another player sprint, without laughing out loud). In general it feels like the multiplayer experience has gone backwards since COD4, if anything.

Activision need to learn that improving on a game's multiplayer does not just mean adding extra things to the previous year's game. It requires new modes, new features, new challenges, new possibilities and in this case; a completely new engine (how they are still getting away with using the COD4 engine is beyond me).

On the whole, there is SOMETHING enjoyable about MW3. Is it worth the hype that gaming publications have given it?
    -No.

Is it worth the ridiculously high scores that gaming publications have given it?
    -Absolutely not.

Is it worth a user score on 3.2 here on Metacritic?
    -Perhaps.

Does this franchise need to be rebuilt from scratch?
    -Absolutely.

I'm giving this a 5.0 because the campaign was indeed fun for me, but if not for that then I would be giving this a 0. It's nothing more than an expansion pack and I would have indeed been hugely disappointed if I had invested £40 in this game, just to find out that I had received an expansion pack for a very old game (CO4). Activision and their subsidiaries need to hear the message and hear it clear; 'START CREATING VIDEO GAMES AGAIN AND STOP COPYING AND PASTING THE PREVIOUS GAME EACH AND EVERY YEAR. IMPRESS US AGAIN, LIKE YOU DID WITH CALL OF DUTY 4. SHOW US THAT YOU CAN STILL PRODUCE A FRESH AND ORIGINAL TITLE'.

    That is all.

Everyone camps for killstreaks and no one plays the objective, it's sad to see what has happened to the call of duty franchise. Hopefully, Treyarch can improve these problems in Black Ops 2.

Since the ps3 and xbox versions function the same I'll give the same, generous rating. 2/10. Mass Effect 3 changed their game and listened to fans, why can't MW 3 - and they're wondering why their getting low ratings and want people to boost their game back up - we're being honest, I am at least. You can't call all of us neg. reviewers trolls though and even if we all are a low score is something to be concerned about in the least and maybe action to fix/remedy the situation should be considered.

I will give this a 3 because the single player was fun. But the rest of the game is a copy paste job from MW2

The good game modes are abandoned like Capture the Flag but Team Deathmatch and Free For All are overplayed, which involve no real strategy. It was so predictable and run-of-the-mill I named off the events before it even happened. I honestly didn't care about the story enough to finish it,

I moved on to Multiplayer, and half the guns were taken from MW2. (Including the guns that are the same, with one letter switched.) The map layouts were very poorly designed and I found myself spawn-killed easier than in MW2 (Didn't think it was possible).

I moved onto Special Ops. This part was probably the best part of the game, and if I were to rate it, I would give it a 4. The missions were less-than "Meh" and the survival mode was simply unplayable by yourself. (Unlike the much better Zombie survival on Black Ops). It's kind of hard to live when you have 5 supershielded gunmen with suicide bombers on your back while a chopper is shooting you from the sky.

Td;dr: Predictable story, Bad multiplayer mechanics, Too little change from MW2, Survival is dumb on your own and the Spec Ops missions are below meh.

I bought it because my friends were saying, "Oh, this is gonna be awesome! Way better than Black Ops! You should play it with us!" While I said it looked exactly like Modern Warfare 2, one of my friends claimed, "Don't fix something that isn't broken." Unfortuantely, I had forgotten how broken Modern Warfare 2 was, and how desperately it needed to be fixed. So, while Black Ops got a lot of things wrong, Modern Warfare 3 got hundreds more things wrong.

Campaign: Probably the most plot-hole riddled garbage I've ever had the misfortune to play. While the level design is decent, the actual setting and story was horrendous, even worse than Modern Warfare 2's campaign. What happened to Infinity Ward making good stories? COD4 had a brilliant story. Modern Warfare 3's story sucked.

Multiplayer: This is where the real bashing begins. Since Multiplayer is a copy-paste from MW2, everything that Infinity Ward got wrong in Modern Warfare 2 is also wrong in this game. Balancing is off, the spawn system is broken, and griefers and hackers run amock trying to troll players. They even failed to get the thing they tried to emphasize in this game:gun-on-gun gameplay. Point streaks are the only thing I don't disagree with, but you'll hear hundreds of gamers complaining about how point streaks, "Take no f***ing skill."

SpecOps: Fun for 3 weeks. After that, whether or not you've unlocked everything, I guarntuee you will lose interest.

DLC: Downlodable content from Call of Duty is usually lacking in quality. MW3's DLC are no exception. And, with the inclusion of COD ELITE, Activision is trying to drain even more money off of their consumers. Honestly, what is this world coming to?

Final Verdict: Awful, awful game. I don't know why all the mainstream critics say this game is good, and I'm actually starting to suspect Activision bribed them all to give MW3 a good score. While the formula for a Call of Duty game can still work, for me, it completely backfired and the experience feels exactly the same from Black Ops and even from Modern Warfare 2.

0/10. Do not buy this game! Seriously! One of the worst mistakes I've made when it comes to buying video games!

It feels extremely rushed (Expected, for a game that took 3 MONTHS to make) and leaves you questioning why you bought the game in the first place. Everybody uses the same four or five weapons, which even the user is forced to do, because they are intensely outclassed by everyone else. This game's multiplayer is also heavily based on connection. If a player cannot afford decent Internet, they might as well not play the game at all, due to bad servers. This game's community is horrible. A "normal" person might say that Modern Warfare 3's community is showered with lunatics and children. People start bickering about how "cool" or "Swaggilcious" (I can't believe I said it either) their clan is. I was forced to play a a gametype "Search And Destroy" with my friends, and everyone with a microphone was talking trash. I couldn't help but laugh at everyone. When I killed someone, they would accuse me of "hacking" and using an aimbot. I know what trolling is when I see or hear it, and I could tell the people in the lobby were being serious. Back to the topic of MW3's community, they will try their best to hurt your feelings, and they generally focus their hatred on people who aren't doing anything. This leaves the victims of the "trash-talking" confused. Overall, The campaign and the Spec Ops were good, but the multiplayer, the obvious main sellpoint of this game, was so bad, this game went down from an eight to a two. Expand

The multiplayer was NOT created or developed by either the companies hinting why it is different from the campaign and almost completely ripped from previous games from soundclips to weapons and scrapped maps which where re-tectured from MW1. Continuing the Multiplayer was in fact made by two companies, one being the notorious Treyarch which created Black Ops and World at War hints why the awful graphics from Black Ops returns, and the second company being a new company inducted to the COD developers called Raven Software who worked on titles such as Singularity and Prototype. My evidence for the proof of this is research prior to the game coming out as well as after. Although the retail box copy does not show companies other than Sledge Hammer and Infinity Ward, if you look in the multiplayer there are emblems of both Raven and Treyarch which are their company signias. Not only in the multiplayer but at the end of the credits in MW3 it shows both Raven and Treyarch under the multiplayer development and creation section. In further ado I just want to get facts straight on the designers and different developers for who the actual blame towards the faulty mechanics and rehashing content are blamed at. Expand

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. This is a direct question to Infinity Ward: why are you guys, the original creators, trying to kill your own creation? Is this some kind of subliminal message to the community saying "Please help us, Activision won't let us make a different game" or something? It's funny, CoD4 is one of my favorite games on the X360 and MW2 was a let down on some levels but overall a good game. Now MW3; the game in which everyone was awaiting the conclusion to the story. And how was the story? Well it made the story of MW2 much better. Seriously, this was a dissapointment to me because I always thought that Infinity Ward always focussed on the structure in their plot lines and to see this is like seeing someone flip you off then that someone shoving their middle finger into your face. What I found really anoying was the major plot holes throughout the story. The biggest one is when you play as one of the Russian President's body guards. First, how are armed terrorists able to sneak into a plane that's filled top to bottom with secret service people? Isn't their job before every take off to completly search the entire plane for any threats? Second, where did the escort fighter jets go when things went t**s up? There are many more that would anger me even more. After completing the let down of a story, I went off to play Spec Ops. This was one of my favorite additions to MW2 and I was overjoyed to see it's return. The missions are fun and challenging and are more fun to play with a friend. However, some idiot at IW decided to add in Survival, which is their response to Treyarc's Zombies. Let me list the things that made zombies so popular. Black Ops's (and WaW's) zombies mode required team work and the ability to communicate with each other. You also have to worry about your points weather to upgrade or buy a gun. Survival is NONE OF THESE THINGS! Here's how you ALWAYS beat the goal. First, you and your buddy knife and steel the enemy's guns. Next, find a corner and surround yourself with sentrys, claymores, and C4. Finally, buy an LMG and keep refilling ammo. That's it. There is nothing really thrilling about this mode. What I thought was just lazy is that the multiplayer maps are the survival maps. No effort in making creative, interesting maps. And finally the multiplayer. This is just a cluster f***. The menu took me forever to get a hang of and once I did start playing, I realized a major problem. See, in my eyes, if a game gives me the ability to use a sniper, I should have the ability to use the sniper like a real life sniper would. So why on earth are ALL THE MAPS CLOSE QUARTER?! There is so much s*** in the way and there is no such thing as a big map. They're all small and the size of Favela from MW2 and then thrown in a bunch of cars to block your path. But the biggest dissapointment out of everything in multiplayer or even the game is the gold camo. In previous games, you had to work like crazy to earn gold on just one gun. But thanks to MW3, you can earn a gold camo for one of your guns in just 6 HOURS! So what is supposed to be an achievement turns out to be a usless pile of junk. This is not Call of Duty, not even slightly. What this is is a very sad display of when a developer wants to move on to something else but just can't at all. If you buy this, it's just a waste of money. I personally think that Treyarc should have all of the rights to the Call of Duty name since so far, their CoD games look, play, and feel better than Infinity Ward's CoDs. If you want a shooter which does have tons of replay value, get Battlefield 3. End of story. Expand

All the voices, noises, and sounds are also just copied from previous games. And survival mode? A terrible attempt at creating something as enjoyable as Zombies. Expand

It is also full of the same models and textures, and same Callsigns and emblems. Singleplayer i guess is the only reason this has a 2. Okay call me a sap but i always enjoyed CoDs SP because they seem to make decent enough stories and such to kill time. I did like the ending i thought it was a great way to break the ICE for our CERTAIN hero. Now i haven't tried spec ops for it was as boring as zombies. But let me just say this as simple as i can. This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. To be honest, I really wanted to like Modern Warfare 3 as much as I loved Call of Duty 4. The multiplayer is phenomenal, yes, but...it feels exactly like Modern Warfare 2. There was nothing new to it that really matters other than weapon perks that could be added along with weapon attachments, and some of the new attachments are nice. I especially loved the hybrid sight, but unfortunately, that didn't make up for the lack of change. The weapons are cool, yes, but, again, they're near identical to the weapons of the previous game. And I don't mean in looks, I mean in the roster. The new weapons were nice, yes, and I especially loved how they brought back the G36C, as it was one of my personal favorites of Call of Duty 4. But the changes I saw just didn't change the fact that I felt like I was playing Modern Warfare 2 with a partial makeover. And I haven't even started on the short, lackluster campaign that had little to no real surprise points to it. And its attempt at shock and awe with the bomb attack that killed the little girl was, well...not shocking in the least. What would've been shocking was actually watching her get gunned down or sniped or something, rather than she's there one second, and the next, there's an explosion. You want shock and awe? Try the scene in Call of Duty 4 where a nuclear device detonates, taking out an entire Marine battalion at least, including the character you play as. Now THAT'S shock and awe. Some may disagree, of course, but that's my opinion. The fact that it could be beaten within six hours makes it even less appealing. I know I'm not the first to say this, but games that aren't dedicated to multiplayer, such as Team Fortress 2 or Blacklight: Retribution, can't stand on multiplayer content alone. The only reason I'm giving this game a 4 rather than a three or a two is the Survival mode, which I actually enjoyed. Other than that, nothing really impressed me about Modern Warfare 3, which was a huge letdown. Expand

Now the multiplayer part first its the weapons and a lot of them are over powered and are given random stats no matter the FPS of the weapon or the calibur of the bullet the weapon takes except for AT launchers and Sniper Rifles. Now the ranks, the highest rank or level is 80 or general but you rank up very fast so theres prestige to take care of that but pretty much resets your rank and progression and gives you nothing in return but an icon next to your level. Unlocks, when you level up you unlock stuff but a lot of the stuff you unlock there usually pretty useless epically when you reach level 80 you unlock the worst gun in the game AK-47 and worst AT launcher in the game RPG-7 and the ability to reset your rank and progression which is pretty stupid. Overall Gameplay, the only gametype in the game that is moderately fun is Teamdeathmatch, and the game is in no way intense and loaded with Trolls and little whiny kids that have there kinect on, there's no teamwork or coordination with the players almost all the time so you just run around getting kills or getting killed.

The game is pretty fun, obviously since it's an action movie on steroids, and the game is good, but of course it is. It was released twice, the biggest problem is it is a copy of number 2, if this wasn't the case it would have a higher rating. And when I rate I assume people are looking to see if they want to purchase the game, which is why the rating is low because it isn't worth your money.

After playing Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 and all the previous games in the franchise (Since 2007, as we generally do not care about the WW2- themed games before Call of Duty 4, said games having stopped being produced after the 90's), there are several concepts I am beginning to grasp. First, after playing the multiplayer for at most 2 hours per game, I am increasingly feeling that they should rename the franchise: 'Camping Simulation: Modern Tent Erecting'. If you've played for more than an hour, you'll know what I mean. This is a distinct (but not the sole reason) why the multiplayer has gradually become a mind- numbing, boring, irritating experience which generally would put anybody with an ounce of sanity off the franchise completely. Second, both Infinity Ward, Treyarch and Sludgehammer games are becoming increasingly lazy- probably because they're too busy bathing in the money they get from all their previous games and the overpriced map packs they subject the online community to- and have descended into more or less not caring in the least about how good their content actually is; the story line for single player mode was anticlimatic considering where we left off with Modern Warfare 2, the multiplayer was unplayable and 'Spec Ops' was tedious as the day is long. Third, after looking at the reality-defying sales figures considering how much of an utter travesty the game was, it is clear to me that the title 'Call of Duty' is simply associated with popularity. Get 50 million dogs to in paper bags and slap an official 'Call of Duty' sticker onto each bag and sell them in game stores and by the end of the month you'll have made hundreds of millions of dollars. The only reason people aren't doing this to get rich quick is because of Copyright and Animal Cruelty laws, but neither apply to those actually responsible for the franchise and subjecting the world to it; watch out, they might try this tactic with Modern Warfare 4. Finally, after playing the game and looking at critic reviews, it appears that game critics are either under the control of Activision, have mental issues or enjoy heavily abusing amphetamines before they make a game review. How anybody could make it past the title screen without raging about how they wasted $60, let alone playing the game for a while and concluding that it's good is totally beyond me. Now for the only two positives, as we should always leave on a good feeling!

The only two things good about Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3, in my opinion, are:
    1. It made Black Ops actually look playable, which I didn't think was possible before I played Modern Warfare 3.
    2. It helped me to decide whether I should buy Black Ops 2 or Assassin's Creed 3 the next year. Having an actual functioning brain, I of course chose Assassin's Creed 3. And guess what. It was actually a pretty decent game.

I felt as though the title of this game would've been better named "Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2.5." This low quality and low entertainment of this game, (in my personal opinion) was heavily influenced by the firings of Vince Zampella and Jason West, who were the heads of the developer company infinity ward before being fired for supposed "insubordination." As West and Zampella left, 38 infinity ward members left as well, leaving an insufficient amount of untalented developers and programmers at the head of MW3. As a longtime COD fan, (specifically the modern warfare series,) I found it thoroughly disappointing that this game did not meet the usual gusto and new found excitement that the other two games upheld, which is why I rated this game 4/10. I was all hyped for this game because modern warfare 2 was so addicting even with it's flaws and i was expecting the same addiction that i had before but was disappointed and after 3 prestige's called it quits and couldn't handle the crappyness anymore and sold it at gamestop

I have played all of the Modern Warfare games. Obviously the first one is the best. MW2 was pretty good. But making this your sequel1?!?!?!? The graphics are bad and look like they are from Call of Duty 2. The multiplayer is the same except...hacking is allowed!!!! Maps suck. Same emblems and call signs from MW2. Although the campaign is pretty good. Great ending to the series. But II have played all of the Modern Warfare games. Obviously the first one is the best. MW2 was pretty good. Playing as Soap, Price and all the other characters were way better. What I don't like about Yuri is that they just bring him in saying he is ex-Spetsnaz that is the only back story on him. Spec ops missions are not that great they were better in MW2. Survival mode is pretty boring IW should've taken a hint from Treyarch's awesome zombies mode. In general this game is a 3 out of ten a bad. It has its goods the Campaign mainly. And its bads multiplayer, spec ops, survival. In general a very bad game Expand

So what can i saw about modern warfare 3. It sucks all around. the only things that save this steaming pile of is the new kill streak system and the survival mode. The story mode was lacking everything. I feel that my dog taking a piss is a 1000000 times more entertaining than the story. as far as online well do i really need to say anything? Save your money and buy a better CoD. This is just a repeat of MW2. If you want a good and engaging call of duty, get MW1. Things have gone downhill with this franchise everytime they release a game. But of course the game has a huge following of younger children who love the game because it has explosions and blood.

This game was a waste of 60 dollars in my opinion. I did not enjoy my time with this game. They got rid of all that made MW2 good and kept all the crap. It might as well have been called Modern 2.5. Plain ans simple I did not enjoy my time with this game, it just got me frustrated that's it.

Ultimately, Modern Warfare 3 feels similar to it's brethren, but that doesn't mean it isn't a great game. The single player element is still exciting, and multiplayer has more options than ever – if you're a fan of Call of Duty, Modern Warfare 3 is a no brainer.

Modern Warfare 3, while still an excellent thrill ride in its own right, feels far too similar to MW2 or even Black Ops for my taste.
  3. I never expected Modern Warfare 3 to go toe-to-toe with EA's juggernaut this year, but it came out of the gates with a tour de force campaign and co-op mode. It loses points with a perhaps too-familiar multiplayer that caters to the juvenile on Xbox Live; though don't be mistaken, Modern Warfare 3 is one hell of a shooter and a highlight for a series that just won't die – no matter how much we wish it bloody would, at times.
