More of the same, nothing but FPS garbage. This genre has single handedly destroyed gaming and turned the entire industry into one that favors "safe" shallow gameplay with good graphics instead of games that are actually enjoyable.

Infinity Ward should be ashamed. MW3 makes absolutely no initiative to take forward progress in making their game better. This is why it's truly The Same Game.

I can't for the life of me understand why anyone still buys Call of Duty games!
They've pumped out virtually the same game every year since everyone realized how awesome COD4 was. Do people not realize that this is the same game that they've bought 3 years running now? Madden sets out to make the same game every year, and even THEIR games have more of a difference year to year than COD's....

The game offers nearly nothing new to the series apart from a campaign with different missions with the same run here and shoot him tactics. Multiplayer is... Well play MW2 or MW and you know absolutely everything you need to know. Only thing that kept me playing were some interesting action scenes that occurred.

-The singleplayer guns are crooked and unbalanced in the campaign, as always.

An uninspired sequel with very little new content. They'll keep throwing together garbage sequels as long as you people keep buying them.

MW3 does absolutely nothing to the FPS genre. Like what saltychipmunk said, sequels mean innovation. As far as innovation goes, this game is the pits. In fact, it is pretty much the same as MW2, (since I played it with a few buddies once), just with new guns and maps and perks. It would've been fine as DLC, but as a full-retail game, not so much.

The 5-hour campaign is terrible designed, as you just shoot your way through different sizes and shapes of corridors, streets and other environment that is filled with lots and lots of enemies. No flanking, no tactic, just rushing through endless enemy-waves, what constantly gets interrupted by the usual badass slow-mos. You have a hard time following the plot, but when you do, it's just a unreasonable story that could have been written by a class of 11-year olds. The kind of audience, that is obviously trying to be attracted here.
Multiplayer is very demotivating, because you feel just like prestige-ing in MW2. Most weapons, callsigns, killstreaks are in the same order, with the same way of achieving them. Maps as well as the weapons all "feel" the same. They seem to have tried too hard to balance everything, that now there is nothing special about either of them.
Spec-Ops is the best out of every playable mode, but that really isn't such a big compliment. It's fun to play, but once you are through, you are done with it. Survival-mode is unfair and complete randomly added.
If I would have to make a conclusion... Take the chocolate ice-cream that MW1 was, add some sparkles from MW2, and now take a huge pile of **** and mix it. Now you have MW3.

Keep hyping his game, it still doesn't change the fact that this is MW2.5 you paid for with your earned money.â Expand

I have played many of the COD's COD, COD 2, COD 4 MW, COD WAW, and COD MW2. But by then Activision had not brought anything new to the table and was milking the fan base to no end. As far as my review it looks and plays no different than COD4. Not a bad thing if this game was released back in 2007. It felt like I was playing a 60 dollar map pack. Some new maps with new perks but not much else. With as much money the COD world has brought in I would have at least hoped that they would have updated the game engine or provided dedicated servers to avoid the crazy amount of modded players on this game. Yes the game has already been hacked. Within 24hrs. A mod is available for MW3. Not surprised since it is a game based on per to per play. By the way the friend I was standing in line with called today and his excitment was not were near what it was Monday night. I asked him what was wrong because he was sooo pumped for this game and the night or should I say morning we where playing it he was really over the top about how sweet it was. And he said after playing it for a couple of days now he understands what I was saying that night and feels slighted by all the hype and felt he got suckered. I told him not to feel bad and just dont support the Elite or map packs and you will help the industry by showing your voice with your dollars. I love how they changed the way guns are upgraded, acogs are actually effective and useful- no 1 man army...but thats about it. The percs have all been nerfed and muddled with, some are totally pointless, some of my favorite percs have been turned into 2 percs (ghost!), some have been divided into the same catagory which breaks my balls. The spawn system is 100% broken, i dont know what they're thinking. I play free for all A LOT, but it is U N P L A Y A B L E as you spawn literally FEET from the enemy. (I mean feet, Ive literally watched people spawn in front of me within shotgun range, and ive noticed people have made a habit of spawning and planting a bouncing betty at their feet which kills the next person that spawns there) quick scoping is back and worse then ever, yAaaaaaaaaaaaay. Theres a new air burst grenade launcher that is devastating, complete with 4 round clip and abundant ammo. A lot of the guns almost always require scavenger, which is in the same slot as slight of hand, which really bothers me. And I havent scratched the surface, the 3 worst things about this game are the guns damage (you spawn and die before you know whats happening- too many one shot weapons) the maps are cluster F@&$ed and jammed together (Theres about 1000 ways into a area, which I thought I'd love but it just exasperates me getting shot from 10 different angles, there is not 1 map that resembles their classic formula, not one feels like a call of duty map) and there is debris and crap EVERYWHERE, making every inch of the maps prime hiding for campers. Everyone camps in this game, and I think its because people are intimidated to move sense you have the potential of being shot from 200 different angles. I wish I could return this game, I've never been more disappointed in a game in my life. This game is redeemable if they patch the guns, remove quick scoping, fix the spawning, and release some decent classic feeling maps. All of this is reasonable, they have nerfed guns in the past due to being over powered (like the ak74u) and fixed quick scoping, I dont get why they went the opposite direction this game. Expand

I picked this one up mainly because all of my friends were. This is once again, another busy holiday season with tons of games coming out and the quest for finding that 1 or 2 that standout is the tricky part. I first went through the campaign. I was excited about it because MW2's IMO was great! it was fun, and the story did fully flesh out and complete itself, but it was predictable. The trailers showed way to much that it became easy to piece 1 & 1 together. Also, where MW had the AC-130 scene, MW2 had the boat chase and breaches, this game recycles both of those in ways that aren't very entertaining. It is like going into a Michael Bay movie and thinking that there won't be explosions. Not that it is all bad, but it seems like when the creative team at Infinity Ward left, they took the best talent for originality. Some of the levels feel recycled from previous versions of single player except they are in different parts of the world. Even that is lost. Its like they took random famous bits of architecture and threw it on a generic map. The special ops mode in this game is almost identical, just on different maps. it seems like almost every one is either blowing something up, or going after some generic leader. The survival mode adds a few new things to the mix, but instead of reinventing the wheel, all it does it change it from a wagon wheel to something with a little more shine. The multiplayer that is so well know and loved in the COD series is back and still has just as many problems as ever, just given that new car smell to try and avoid exposure to the many flaws. Quick scoping, drop shotting, strike packages (aka kill streaks) are abused even more so than all the previous installments. The community is full of underage children that like to complain and try whispering the occasional profane word to try and boost the e-ego. The hit detection is still off as I somehow missed a player that was away from the system from about 3 foot away. It shows when in a hot gunfight and a player misses your head, yet gets a headshot. It is a very annoying code error. Lastly, they still need to fix the servers to try and reduce he atrocious lag. Lag is still a veteran COD players worst enemy. Probably even worse than all the people actually playing on the map. This is a game that I strongly suggest trying before buying. It might be a game for you, but personally I think I am going back to MW2. At least the maps were better... Expand

My little brother got this game, i walked in the room, looked at it forgetting MW3 came out and i swear to god i thought the game was MW2. Than i go on to realise that CoD elite is 4000 MP. It is honestly ridiculous. I played it for a good 3 hours and i just got sick of it. It literally frustrated me. Activision and Inifinity ward need to realise that we are sick of them milking the game and we are sick of paying $150 each year for the same game. And its the CoD fanboys which allow them to do this, who just pay anything for the game. Dont get me wrong, MW1 was fantastic, and so was MW2 ,but that was because they were both relatively new and were therefore were fresh and exciting. Next year i wont be surprised if its $200, and you have to pay in order to pay for the map packs.I just cant wait for Activision to fall. And on that day, on that day. Jesus will come down to us, and forgive us of our sins for playing these forsaken games. and he will come down in the form of Halo 4.We we will be rectified and reconciled. Instead of another CoD game with a new variation on zombies or survival or whatever. In my honest opinion if you want to play another first person shooter this summer, i think bf3 is the way to go, or even reach with its new upcoming map packs, beleive me if you are not a CoD fanboy, and if you are not obsessed with CoD, dont get this game. There are much better affordable games coming out this summer also skyrim (which is absaloutley amazing) and AC: revelations.

Unfortunately the multiplayer experience is destroyed due to the horrible lag created by the lag compensation. After about 15 hours played online it is obvious that the game artificially introduces lag (sometimes up to .5-1 second) to "even" the playing field with those who do not have good connections. This typically results in many wtf moments when engaging into 1v1 gun battles (which the developers repeatedly said would be the focus of the game) where you see the person first and start shooting first but you appear to die from 1 bullet from the other player. Watching the kill cam shows a different story. The other player sees you first and starts emptying most of their magazine into you, clearly more then the 1 bullet that was shown earlier. Multiplayer is unplayable with these problems. These issues were in other CoDs however I have never experienced it as bad as now. If you want to run 'n gun look elsewhere.

The maps are terrible. Tight corridors with numerous corners and overlooking windows lead to excessive camping. All the clutter in the environment is too easily abused for cover where what looks like the tip of someones head above an object is shown to be the barrell of their gun in the kill cam after they kill you. Additionally the spawns are terrible. Enemies spawn on top of you, in you, to the side of you, etc. The same happens when you spawn. It is not uncommon to spawn and take a couple steps and get killed. There is no logic to the spawn locations which seem to be random in nature. The developers stated numerous times that they wanted a fast paced game. If by fast paced they meant chaotic and illogical they succeeded.

Gun damage is inconsistent, likely due to the terrible network compensation. One kill may take 3 bullets the next may take 6. Assault rifles are by far the best weapons in the game dominating the close, mid, and long range. A majority of the iron sights are ridiculus. For example the G36C iron sight covers up nearly 1/3 of the screen while ADS forcing the use of red dot sights. Perk selection has changed little since Modern Warfare 2.

The only gameplay improvements I can see over Modern Warfare 2 are less power and prevailent noob tubes and air support has been toned down slightly.

Single player experience is average. Your "buddies" are dumber then ever just standing around waiting for you to do all the work generally ignoring enemies that are right next to them. I watched many of the developer videos on YouTube and the IGN exclusives. It is clear that many of the pstatements made (gun vs. gun, 3-5 hot spots per map, better spawns, etc.) were not true. I spent $100 on the Hardend Edition and it was a rip off. Call of Duty Elite (included with it) doesn't work reliably and offers less features then what was included with Black Ops combat record! To make it worse, Elite isn't even integrated into the game! You have to exist Modern Warfare 3 to view the more "detailed" stats.

So yea, lots of complaints. Very dissappointed.

Next, multiplayer. The spawning system is trash, even worse than Modern Warfare 2 and Black Ops' "spawn and you're dead" system. The weapons are either absolutely amazing or pea shooters which is crazy and the sprinting and aiming feels clunky and slow. The thing that really gets me about multiplayer is that I have to have two perks "Stalker" and "Quickdraw" for this game to feel as fast with aiming as MW1 and MW2. The servers are also broken for whatever reason and I only play with the 60 or so people playing in my area which is annoying to say the least. So bravo, Infinity Ward / Activision! You have convinced me even further that I should stick with Gears of War 3 (a great game in my view) in the months to come except maybe for Skyrim...

Since 4 there have been some great sequels and some not so much, but none have been as disapointing as MW3, I cant speak to the campaign yet, but as for the multiplayer, which is the main focus of the game, this takes the cake for falling on its face. Its so close to being an amazing game, no more stopping power and steady aim is unlocked later in the ranks so other perks get some lovin too and the guns do the damage they are intended to do, great idea there. I'm also a fan of the gun rankings to get attatchments weapon mods, and camo's with head shots get you more xp for said rank. Also the strike package concept is a really good idea. Where this game fails is its map design and the way the guns feel. The maps are this games biggest flaw, each way too small with no safe place to sit, promoting running around RAMBO style. Theres no flow to the maps, its impossible to establish where the main chunk of enemies is or which way to set up an offensive line. Me and my buddy have searched every map and we still cant find a place to jump 30ft or more to get the "Goodbye" challenge cause the maps are far too small and crowded, Ive always loved sniping in CoD but cant find a single place that makes sense to do so. Of the 16 or so maps that came with the game, maybe 3 are bearable, none are impressive or fun to play, and if I'm expected to put out another $12 in a blind leap of faith for a DLC map pack to be released soon where they supposedly improve mapping quality, they are bigger fools than I could have imagined, I have completely lost faith in the series, its really just been going downhill since 4, dont get me wrong I liked MW2, but it didn't top 4, and now this, I would have just called it a loss if it was made by Treyarch, but at this point I'm going to go ahead and say that I think they did a better job w Black Ops than IW did with this one, at least the maps were fun to play in that one, I loved Nuketown. Me and my brother played through the campaign criticizing it the whole way through. Playing through the multiplayer I found no new innovations that really changed it up too much, and the small maps with a small amount of players annoyed me as i'm used to 64 players on massive maps that I find in my PC version of Battlefield 3. I am not a strict fanboy of Battlefield, and I should probably not judge the game by it's style of gameplay, but Jesus Christ, at least have the decency to not charge $60 for what felt like uninspired DLC that is just proof of Activision's tendency to prefer quantity over quality.Sure the experience is worth more than the $2 it cost to rent it, but not full price. I will go through each aspect of the game, MW3 is the sequel to MW2 but has been released after black ops as part of the two year cycle, and with its release after black ops one would expect similar improvements on the previous game but MW3 looks almost identical to MW2. For the most part the gameplay is very similar to MW2. In Black ops (multiplayer) we could change in game sound settings, e.g turn game music off, choose type of sound system (headset, 5.1, 2.1 etc...) we never were able to do that with MW2 and its the same with MW3. Why on earth can we not change that? Black ops would allow us to turn the aim assist off (so did world at war), MW2 didnt and neither does MW3, I mean why cant I chose to disable it? I have been a call of duty fan since the first one many years ago and have since loyally purchased every game since, but this is where the line has to be drawn. Many people will not know Infinity Ward had lost many employees during the days of MW2 and since had to merge with another game developer, which was not an issue, but there are real signs of lazy work. Apart from what I have mentioned, there are some buildings which have been directly copied from Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare 1 and these buildings have had graphical updates. The voice chat quality online is horrible, black ops implemented an update which used the new HD codec provided by Mircosoft (a few months after black ops was released) so why did this update not make it to MW3? Again this is another copy any paste job by the looks of it. Im sure many will remember the hacks in MW2, 10th prestige lobbys, god mode etc...well clan tag hacks are back in MW3 and so are the worse ones (check certain forums). Modders have the exact same hacks running on MW3 which are not yet public but will soon be. I spoke to a casual gamer friend who previously purchased MW2 and black ops, when he first played MW3 his first comment was "Its exactly the same as MW2", he then stated his desire not to purchase the game. Im not a BF3 fanboy, I have a youtube channel with all sorts of games/gameplay and MW3 might be the best selling game of all time but its not worth the money I have paid for it. The only thing I can commend this game in the multiplayer realm is the fact that it is balanced but thats it. There is no innovation, new ideas or even passion when this game was created. The gameplay is good but I persoanlly dont think its worth the investment, I would suggest playing other games that have been released recently like batman, assassins creed, saints row. Those games will provide a decent experience because there will be an underwhelming feeling after playing this, Im already bored of it. I do not troll as I am trying to become a fair games journalist, but the review sites get paid off to give good reviews of games. MW3 deserves a very low score due to the lack of change or improvement but mainly because of the laziness of the developer who has clearly copied and pasted many aspects from previous games. All I can do is enjoy the other games out there and wait for GTA V. Expand

The story just felt like a ridiculous Michael Bay movie, storming castles, diamond mines, and hotels, all while controlling helicopters with iPads. But the story alone wasn't anywhere near as disappointing as the multiplayer. Or maybe it was just a map pack. I'm really not sure anymore. If it is just a map pack, it sure was a bad one. There may have been two or three maps I really enjoyed, but with such a low ratio it's hard to play through the usual rotation of bad maps. Frankly, I'm upset at Activision. And now with Sledgehammer practically begging for positive reviews, I think it will be a long time before I give them my money again. My copy of MW3 is back where it belongs, returned to the store. Let's start with: 1: They spelled the name right so that's 1 point
2: Milking call of duty to the bone and further = -5 points
    3: Charging 50 euro's for it = bad = -2
4: Overall without looking at the above 3 points it's a very awesome game: graphics 8, gameplay 9, sound 9, replay value single player 3, replay value multiplayer 8.

    Overall 1 - 5 - 2 + 8.5 (avg) = 2.5 = 3

The pit falls of the PC version though really trump could have been, the game doesn't even feel supported and seemed like the developers didn't care at all for PC gamers. To them we are all pirates and there is no $ in PC gaming. Which is funny, because I see that most games that are pirated first are console games.

-Again, the PC version feels very dated and the textures are HORRIBLE. It sucks they didn't spruce it up at all for PC seeing as many of the gamers to get it have way better systems then the 5-6 year old consoles.

    - CoD Elite. They touted it and touted it. Where is the PC version? Why is PC being shafted with a stripped down version. It's ****

    - Dedicated servers. We go them, yay! ... But, they are all uranked? What. The. **** Why in god's name would I ever play a non-ranked server? The game, like all games now is the reward. I like gaining XP and unlocking guns, levels and prestiges... but removing them from dedicated server? Stupid.

    - IWnet/P2P. This was the major complaint for MW2 and it returns in MW3. Having to play with someone who gets host and an advantage and deal with lag, and change of hosts and no way to deal with any cheaters is horrible and not fun. In a twitch shooter, every ms counts. If I'm lagging, I am going to be in a bid disadvantage. What was wrong with me being able to play on a dedicated server that was located near me and I wasn't lagging. IWNet/P2P, It's why I didn't put much more time in MW2. My first game after buying it was into a hacked lobby. Black Ops had optimization problems with dual cores, but man it played the best out of all the CoDs I've played so far. And we had RANKED DEDICATED SERVERS.

The single player was alright, but nothing memorable with it all. Same 'ol crap from the previous games.

Multiplayer is the same old blah, run and gun, same thing over and over and over and over. It just didn't grab me like the past games. There are no dedicated servers, cheaters and lag abounds, and if my sticky reticule pops to one more enemy automatically I think I'm going to ceremoniously burn this game. There is no reason on the PC to make the game aim for the player.

Multiplayer has literally not advanced at all. Graphics are poor, the engine is out of date. There's nothing but lag, cheaters, and kids whining and screaming over their microphones every time they die. There are no new modes, and no unique guns. You get to choose between slightly different re-skins of the same gun, pretty much, because they're all equally bland and stiff to use.

There are no advanced physics to enhance dynamic gameplay, still no vehicles, and the killstreaks are more cheap than fun at this point. Who likes to join a match where half your team is just getting insta-killed by a helicopter above the map? Roll the dice. You might not randomly die, between the latency, the aim assist, and the 20 foot knives.

That's pretty much all this game is. Random death. Grenade spam, camping, quickscope abuse, and lag all contribute to one pathetic package of random death.

It gets 2 instead of 0 because it's a functional game, and not a pile of slag that nukes your HDD.

I borrowed this game from a friend to "test the waters" before I went out to buy it, and I'm glad I did. I'll start of with the campaign. Me personally, I didn't like campaign at all. It seemed to be made for children with severe ADHD because it's filled with constant explosions, unnecessary violence and you become desensitized to the whole experience quickly. I shot down 6 helicopters in the first half hour of playing the campaign, and because of that it's really hard to feel any speck of sympathy when something unfortunate happens to one of the main characters who you've followed since MW1. But that's not the only thing wrong with the campaign, the enemies still don't know how to cover properly, the friendly's who are supposed to help you don't do much other than get in the way of your firing line and the story doesn't make any sense what so ever so you'll be playing for the sake of playing it. Also they've implemented the ideas which I loathed so much from Black ops, like the slow motion scenes which ruined the pace and is just an unnecessary playable cut scene and a desperate attempt to make the campaign longer. Now next up is the graphics. If you played the first modern warfare, compared it to modern warfare 3, you won't be able to notice any real significant changes. It's 2012 soon and looking at games like Battlefield 3, skyrim, or even gears of war 3, you'll see what you're missing out on, and console limitations is no excuse. Now for the multiplayer. Multiplayer has more or less the same basic concepts as the previous games including the same problems as before but they've changed the whole idea of killstreaks. It's now called "Strike Packages". And you get a choice of 3. Assault is the standard, get as many kills without dying to get rewarded we're all used to. Support is get as many kills as you can before the game ends without your kill count being reset to 0 when you die. And specialist is the same as assault but you unlock perks as your rewards. Now if you play multiplayer for an hour you'll realise how unbalanced the multiplayer now is. You can forget about specialist as you'll always feel left out when everyone else is calling in a heavily armed robot or predator missiles and getting a bunch of kills in one go. Sniping is still as poor as the previous games due to the maps being small, tight and the same altitude you have to resort to quickscoping. You can't "quickscope" in real life, so you shouldn't be forced to quickscope in a military game when you're not used to it. Forget about hardscoping you'll never get a kill that way because you'll always be too close to the enemy and dead before you can even fire the second shot. But that isn't the only problem. Spawn killing is still as bad as it was, the maps are insanely small and tight leaving you to lone wolf, meaning playing with friends impossible because you'll have no choice but to separate and go your own way anyway. Also, if you didn't buy this game on day 1, forget about multiplayer because too many people have found the blind spots for camping in every map and you'll be put in the same games as players who've prestige'd 4 times over by now. I don't know about you but getting killed over and over by barely taking 4 steps forward after respawning isn't my definition of fun.
Now if you're looking for new original "killstreaks", you'll be disappointed. Most of the rewards are copied from previous games. For example the "advanced UAV" is just a nerfed version of the blackbird from Black ops. I thought this was supposed to be set in the near future? Why does a game set during the Vietnam war have a more powerful killstreak than the "advanced UAV" here? It's just poor and unimaginative, and you can tell they're running out of ideas.

All in all, I'm not impressed at all. I agree with many people that this game should have been modern warfare 2. If you never played a COD game before, I'd say this is probably worth your time. But if you own black ops or MW2, or even MW1 look elsewhere. This is just a low budget scheme by Activision to milk the name as much as they can.

I can only imagine how a professional critic handles judging title after title, but I would assume it comes with some matter of detachment from the games they review. When I see Modern Warfare 3 I see what should be the sequel to Modern Warfare 1 and 2, not looking at it as a stand alone game but a continuation. My only guess is that a critic can review it highly as if it were a game of any other title, yet users stand firm in their belief that something is definitely not right . In the multiplayer game mode, veterans of MW will notice many similarities, but some basic game play tweaks that bring very odd changes to the modern warfare world. When crouched in every other game players can move silently to make stealth kills, adding a bit of strategy to what otherwise devolves into a mindless firefight. MW3, for whatever reason, had very audible movement sound no different than running when the player went prone or crouching when I played. A small change, but the first of many that most experienced fans of the series will notice. Weapons feel familiar but where every other game made them feel unique, I only felt slight differences between many of them in terms of how they handle and shoot. The look of the weapons seemed to take precedence over balance and polish. Not many may notice such a change, buy a lot of fans of MW series can automatically tell something is wrong. Some weapons are even unusable for the purpose that they were intended, a few of the side arms in particular. Almost everything about playing the game seems to indicate that flash and flair, along with some advertising for firearms manufacturers, was the primary focus. This is the only way I can justify a side arm being pulled up to fire, but instead being treated to a 2 second animation of the already loaded weapon getting the magazine put back in. The small time frame of being vulnerable may seem petty to some, but a quick draw is the main reason for having such a side arm. After dying more times than I can count during the pretty magazine flair, I had to learn two things: to never use that particular gun again, and that 2 seconds in a fast paced FPS means a lot more than you might think. The single player campaign fairs better than the multiplayer, but still suffers from the rest. The many user reviews of the story feeling stale or uninspired do not lie, and many of the 'twists and surprises' of the story feel predictable and some even come off as cheap. Where previous titles may change the player from different persona to another on occasion, MW3 feels like it uses this character swap as a plot point, changing characters in such a way that it seemed entirely unjustified or even boring at times. It became hard to care about some of the cast after a while, part of the player thinking they'll just swap to another persona after a few minutes and will never see them again anyway. This among other plot turns made it difficult for myself and others to really get into the story the same way we did with MW2 and the first Modern Warfare in particular. The game itself is not terrible, but then again I am not a professional critic. The game as a sequel is very off putting, and old time fans of modern warfare will notice very obvious and strange changes, ones that make the gamer question their methods and thought process when making the game. I can only attribute the subtle tone of change to the fact that the studio Infinity Ward (IW) lost a good chunk of their senior staff when there was a falling out between Activision and then heads of IW, leading to two original founders of IW to be fired. Shortly after, a handful of senior employees and friends of the two followed in their footsteps which has led to a void in the company that has yet to be filled nor may ever be. These all feel like lessons well learned during the development of the first two games in the series (excluding all of the other CoD games, in which similar lessons must also have come up) and I can only imagine they are surfacing now due to the dramatic change in development and production the series has been put through. I would like to say that IW having a lot of their original staff moving on didn't change the quality of the franchise any, but I would be lying if I did. As a stand alone game of a different title, perhaps the user score would better match the critics. But as a sequel to a beloved series, the game fails all the loyal fans who came to expect a certain polish and refinement that Modern Warfare became known for. TL:DR The best way I can justify giving this game a 0 is as such, I bought MW3 and played it. I sold it, and now play MW2. Expand

There are so many issues that I won't be able to cover them all, even with a 5000 character limit, but I've had people spawn in front/behind me, spawnkilled an infinite number of times and had major issues with lag and hit detection. It's a real shame, since this could be a really good game but I'd instead recommend sticking to Modern Warfare 2 until the next game comes out, providing it isn't another copy/paste title like this is. And to be fair, I don't mind about it being more of the same, it's a formula that works to some extent, but they've got it all wrong in terms of weapon balance, map design... The list goes on. I don't think a single score would be entirely representative, so I'd give Spec-Ops mode a 7.5, Campaign an 8.5 and Multiplayer a 2. Providing it stays as it is and Infinity Ward refuse to patch it, as they've done with MW2...
This is an updated review, and I have lowered the score to compensate for the distinct lack of promise for any fixes. It's like they just can't be bothered to fix online multiplayer at all, and people have noted that a great internet speed makes the game run much better. When I play a game online, I'd rather it be a test of skill rather than who can buy the fastest internet, but maybe that's just me.

Besides that, it plays so similar to MW2. There are no real changes to multiplayer. Yes they brought back death streaks, but those aren't new, and strike packages are just kill streaks with different rewards. The UI looks pretty much the same and they've actually reused old content. The lack of new or innovative content is pathetic. Survival is OK, I'll admit, but its certainly similar to zombies, but you're limited to 2 people, otherwise it all comes down to personal preference. The multiplayer is also pretty imbalanced. Most of the guns early on pale in comparison to later unlocks, and most shotguns and LMGs are pretty bad, except the last ones you unlock. I won't go into every imba gun, but there are a few and they all take time to get, which sucks. Campaign is OK, if linear, but that's pretty much what all FPS campaigns do nowadays.

To round it up: Multiplayer and PC version is sub-par, the only redeeming factors for the game is the story, if you've followed it or care, and spec ops, which is only really fun with friends.

Not impressed at all! No thought or Balance in Slightest, the map layouts are terrible along with the Graphics I thought the game was supposed to get better every year instead its went backwards, Competitive Call of Duty gamer since Cod 4 and I feel badly ripped off and betrayed and disgusted by activision/infinity ward. MW3 has been a real let down!! and I will be trading it in like many others.

I'll start by saying I am a fan of CoD 4, MW2, and slightly WaW, and I disagree with anyone saying this is an expensive DLC. Unfortunately, it's much worse than that. I'll start with maps, they're atrocious. They're randomly scattered, disgusting looks, dull, flat, and horribly small, actually I timed how long it takes to run around the biggest MW3 map to MW2 wasteland and favela.I'll start by saying I am a fan of CoD 4, MW2, and slightly WaW, and I disagree with anyone saying this is an expensive DLC. They're randomly scattered, disgusting looks, dull, flat, and horribly small, actually I timed how long it takes to run around the biggest MW3 map to MW2 wasteland and favela. Wasteland was approx 2.5x bigger and favela was 1.3-5x bigger, pathetic. The perks, there are only 3 new ones, of which all are essentially useless and one, recon, was basically just copied off of rival Battlefield series. The other 2 are even very innovative and their pro versions are old perks. The guns, yes the guns are basically the same, but thats not what I'm complaining about because theyre based off real guns of which there are limited variants. Whats frustrating is the complete lack of balance, actually scratch that, theres balance in the fact that every gun kills in two shots except for a couple which are just useless. Also for some reason they decided to make machine pistols more powerful than most other guns in the game, really? The sniping is awkward to say the least, and I'm a sniper, it was my most used gun in every COD to date, even though you can zoom in faster, the way it does is honestly just odd and unweildy. Not to mention the snipers are just plain ugly. There are no new attachments except for the hybrid scope which doesnt count because its just combining two old attachments, the kill streaks are basically the same except for juggernaut which really is a stupid killstreak. But they decided to make the support strike package, a kill streak which doesnt reset when you die and has most of the best features, great idea sledgehammer... Because advanced UAV is in this package, if you hated ghost in BO youll die in MW3, with a blackbird up about 80-90% of the time and UAV 100%, assassin and blind eye are essential. Oh and finally the gamemodes, they added one new one, kill confirmed, which is my least favorite of them all including CTF... how has Call of Duty thought of 1 new game type in 5 years? I dont understand. The only reason I gave this a 1 is because the campaign is mildly entertaining and does bring everything together and once and for all end the game, however it is extremely cliche, predictable and uneventful, theres no mission that is distinct nor that I would replay several times such as the sniper missions/ ac-130 from COD 4 and multiple stealth/white house/ final mission of MW2. And lastly, it uses the same engine as COD 4, the best selling game in the world, it outsold harry potter... can't make a new engine, wow, just wow. Dont buy and if you already have, dont buy elite its pointless, go buy Skyrim, Batman, Halo CE anniversary, Rage, Gears 3, Battlefield 3, Dead Island, or wait for Mass Effect 3. With this plethora of great games this year why would one even consider MW3? Expand

This game would be fun if it was 1999 and the internet was 1000 times better. Actually no, that wouldn't change anything. If this was MW2 it would have CRASHED AND BURNED and there would be no MW3.

Tonight there was huge patch rumored for MW3. The spawns have been completely fixed to a true Black Ops style system; damage on the Type 95, Striker and all dual wielded weapons has been cut in half; extended mags on all guns only adds more bullets to the clip not more bullets per shot; shotguns have a max effective range of 15 feet with range on, 10 feet without; assassin doesn't hide youTonight there was huge patch rumored for MW3. This patch hasn't been scheduled for release and never will be.

If you can't tell, there are plenty of things which could be fixed with this game as far as the multiplayer gameplay is concerned, but to date have yet to be addressed. The patches which have been released have done nothing to improve overall playability (if they were even patches at all, most people can't even see or feel a difference). I've stopped playing this all-together and am sorely upset that I spent over $100 on the weakest, most overhyped game in COD history. Please don't make the same mistake millions have made. Save your money.

I am writing this review on the multiplayer, not the campaign. Honestly, the campaign is a campaign, I dont think it needs a rating since ofcourse it's a wild ride, crazy scenes, and explosive events. But the multiplayer? I am a devotee of this game and MW2 and MW1. I love hardcore team deathmatch to get the realism of one shot one kill, or 2 shots and a kill. Loading up a person with bullets and they dont die is just not fun or realistic to me. So what about this hardcore mode and why did i rate it so bad? Compared to MW2, this one is just terrible. I'll start with the maps. EVERY ONE of the maps are close quarters, small, and clustered. Some can be a little larger, but with all the trash in them, they become close quarters. As a huge fan of sniping and allowing more distance, I am extremely disappointed. I dont mind a few close quarter maps, but on MW3, they are ALL close quarters. There is maybe one map that you can snipe on effectively. My fav map from the last game was Wasteland. I am so disappointed that they forgot all about the sniping in this game and settled only for close quarters. So there is strike number 1.
So what else? How about the spawning. In the last game, it was possible to understand the maps, understand the general area a team was spawning so you could form a plan or hold down/attach one side of the map. The spawning is so general and random in this, you can think you have a corder of the map locked down, then they will spawn someone right behind you. Or they will spawn you right next to a group of enemies. I think this is a great way of spawning for Free For All, but NOT team based games. I cant count the amount of times that I got killed from behind in an area of the map where there is no way someone could have got behind me. They were spawned there. very very irritating. I really enjoyed being able to formulate a strategy in the last game, but it is impossible in this one with the random spawning and the clustered maps. I URGE THE DEVELOPERS to take a look at the stats. Compare the average person's life on this game to the last game. I bet it is drastically less because of the map size and close quarters spawning. It is just not fun. Again.... it would be perfect for free for all, but NOT FOR TEAM DEATHMATCH. So that is strike 2.
And finally... while the other game had this issue too, im seeing it more in this one. Bullet lag. Several times a match I will die when i get into the clutch with someone else, even point blank. Clearly my weapon fires, I can see the my muzzle blast and hear my gun fire, yet im the only one to die. and it's point blank so theres no way to possibly miss. It just doesn't make sense to me how something like that can still be an issue. The only thing i can think of is they still have that bullet lag issue, where to me it appears that I shot either first or at the same time, but to the other guy, he shot first, or to the system he show and may have already killed me, but to me, I am still alive and can shoot, but my kill doesnt count. only my death. So that is strike 3. I sincerely regret purchasing Elite Premium. Their service has failed in so many ways already, from it's launch to it's lack of fulfilling promises. I can overlook the bullet lag as i did with the last one, but the random spawning and lack of variety in maps just kills me. I will try out BF3 (again, ive been a devoted MW fan), If BF3 appears to be better in these areas as I've read, I'll be a lifetime fan of them from then on. For shame on MW3, InfinityWard, Sledgehammer, and all the like. You lost a fan because you were narrow minded and all about the short game (pun intended). Next time try for some map variety and intelligent spawns that allow for gameplay strategies to occur. I used to be a big Ghost Recon fan, but thought after how good MWF has been doing, i dont see why I'd go back... but thanks to MW3. I eagerly await trying BF3 and Ghost Recon (when it comes out) for the variety that i love. So long MW3, you crapped on your fans for a narrow minded result . "You'll love our game, as long as you love what we love" sounds like "you buy a car in any color you want, as long as you want black". Lack of choice is a killer.

I´ve been trying to forgive SOME of the problems this game has, since its a new game and all. But there are too much stuff in here that are so wrong and aren´t changed. First off, a game of this magnitude really should have not come out in this state- There are to much lag and latency in the game to let this just pass bye You get killed behind walls and other hard walls. On your end of the line your far behind the wall, BUT when you do look at the killcam feature in the game you can clearly see that you where far away frrom that wall that you thought you got behind to take cover.

Thats just some of the problems, And they do still, after 2 years since mw 2, have problems with Over-powered guns. What I am most disappointed in is the both the developers did promise on E3 June 2011 that they were not going to include shotguns, second chance and other perks that player over the years have learnt to hate.

Don´t get me wrong on this, the games singleplayer part is fantastic, like a really intense action movie. But that is just 6 hours of gameplay, Is the game really worth 60$ for 6 hours of entertainment?

Based on my experiense with the game I would not recomment people to get this game, atleast not when its 60$, Its really not worth that much for the 6 hours singelplayer, and its certainly is not worth that kind of money for the multiplayer part.

And one more thing, who would wanna pay for MW 2,5?

Ultimately, Modern Warfare 3 feels similar to it's brethren, but that doesn't mean it isn't a great game. The single player element is still exciting, and multiplayer has more options than ever – if you're a fan of Call of Duty, Modern Warfare 3 is a no brainer.

Modern Warfare 3, while still an excellent thrill ride in its own right, feels far too similar to MW2 or even Black Ops for my taste.
  3. I never expected Modern Warfare 3 to go toe-to-toe with EA's juggernaut this year, but it came out of the gates with a tour de force campaign and co-op mode. It loses points with a perhaps too-familiar multiplayer that caters to the juvenile on Xbox Live; though don't be mistaken, Modern Warfare 3 is one hell of a shooter and a highlight for a series that just won't die – no matter how much we wish it bloody would, at times.
