The previous score I had given this game was an 8: This game is uninspired, uneventful, and it feels like "we've done this before." Bad deja vu, a train wreck, and an embarrassing online service that feels stale. The single player campaign is the first in the Modern Warfare series that I didn't find interesting, not even in the slightest. The sound effects of the guns are too similar to each other and it feels as if the guns you shoot have no power to them whatsoever. The explosions are either over-the-top, or small and insignificant to the point that it looks and feels cheap. The A.I. is also terrible with either super-human killers or enemies that walk towards you, waiting for you to mow them down. The online service, what COD is known for, is not done well at all this time around. There is no advantage for doing well, the game doesn't reward you accordingly, and the entire community wants to cheat instead of play the game fair. The Spec Ops missions aren't as fun this time around, and they feel rushed. The graphics are touted as better, but this is not the case. The graphics seem to have a grainy filter over them, to give the effect of a "war-hardened" game. This game was rushed, and it shows. With the first two installations of the MW series warranting a 10 and 8 from me, respectively; this game falls very short of that. No longer fun, not creative, and not balanced; Modern Warfare 3 is one of the worst games I have played in a long time. Don't waste your time, money, or life on this game. Not worth the $60 price tag, and I wouldn't pay $20 for it. Terrible, terrible game. Expand

wow it's funny how far a terrible game can get with money. Titles like these are what ruin the gaming experience for 80% of people. What happens to the online of every other incredible game... it gets abandoned for this silly excuse for a AAA title ROFLCOPTER and this is suppose to be the BF3 killer hahaha!!! =]

A subscription plan? That's not really new, battlelog offers the same features for free, and this is nothing but a cash grab aimed at zealous CoD fans who are unable to see anything else but this pathetic excuse of game, and Activision knows they can do this to fund their product that is in decline, as it's possible the last resort for it to stay alive.

The production values of this title are an aberration for what video games truly stand for - an Art form. Call of duty is no longer an art, it's merely a shovelware, or something more reminiscent of an yearly sports game; rehashed content, with little or no values or effort put into it. A quick cash grab.

The majority of it's fanbase put the community of gamers to shame; they are mostly close-minded and patriotic - Zealous should i say, about the game. There isn't really anything special about it and they can't see beyond that.

Oh and let's not forget the actions from activion, when they screwed over the people who create this franchise.

I made this account in attempt to aware others, this game is seriously not worth $60. Its just a new campaign (which only spans 4 hours) and new maps. I would wait for the price to drop or to just get skyrim or something instead.

Being a fan since Finest Hour, it's been great watching the series erupt into what it is now (Devs can thank me later) and it deserves a lot of the money, not so much the hype though, no game deserves this amount of hype imo. However, the campaign is great, the multiplayer is just as good as ever, if not better, and Survival mode is sweet if you have friends unlike me. Their only mistake is not putting much work into it so it seems. It's not hard to do what the Call of Duty series does nowadays compared to a game like... oh say.. skyrim. But Comparing the two is just moronic. I personally can't find anything wrong with this game that wasn't wrong with either of the other modern warfares. The only innovation amounting to a slight reskin in a different colour. While this might allow Activision to churn out a game every year, it's gotten to the point where the franchise feels stale and tasteless. There were times I wondered if the level designers competed with each other over how many explosions and collapsing buildings they could cram into each level, and it's clear to see the drop in quality after Activision prudently fired the majority of Infinity Ward's developers. Setting aside the linear on-rails progression, the casual hand-holding and the 4 hour completion time - I can deal with those annoyances, as long as the game is fun and engrossing. Unfortunately Call of Duty 9..or whatever number they're on now isn't. Throw in the weak, unrealistic gun sounds, the whack-a-mole rudimentary AI, unremarkable missions and the generic 'America saves the world all over again' storyline and you're dealing with quite a turd. How reviewers are giving this game a perfect 10/10 is honestly beyond me, and why this game (and this game alone) retails at 10% above the price of every other game confounds me even further. I would honestly rather play through the original Call of Duty again. At least that game provided an emotional attachment, as it wasn't based on pure fabrication. Expand

The new killstreak system isn't that drastic a change, and doesn't do much to change the game. It only slightly adjusts the individual users experience with the game. I hate to say it, but Black Ops was the better game for many reasons including: Better maps, better modes, and an overall fresher take on the series. If anyone out there needs to know what shooter to pick up this holiday season, then my honest answer is Battlefield 3. They delivered a smart, and deeply rewarding multiplayer component this year that improves over its predecessors in every way. It's also worth mentioning that the community behind BF3 is much more mature and tolerable on the whole when compared to the 'typical' **** hole COD player. I'm giving it a 2 because the survival mode is entertaining. Of course, we've all played horde modes before, and that modes fun will not last forever. At the end of the day, this game just didn't try hard enough. The teams responsible were spread too thin, and in my opinion, they rushed the product out for holiday release and wasted the potential it could have been with more time and thought. Expand

to sum it up all in one word: MW2.5
The only thing that has been added to the game was a new campaign, some weapons and a "weapon-progression" system. The graphics is still the same, lame old repetitive sounds from MW2(just new for the weapons) and still the same ol Run-n-Gun idea from COD 4.

Play MW 2 but add different maps and a couple new guns, that's all it is. At this point the only thing keeping the series alive is the new update to Spec Ops which I found very enjoyable, yet not enjoyable enough to prevent my eyes from bleeding over this so called "story". The story is nothing more than a Michael Bay movie with the production fees equal to the of the cost of Bill Gates house. And I'm talking about his house that makes NASA look like preschoolers playing with some Legos. The story doesn't waste anytime in shoving you straight into battle. You walk down some streets, shoot some guys, explosions, repeat. By the time you get through a few more levels a "big" plot point occurs which is supposed to "shock" the gamer. It doesn't. The characters are very stiff in every way, which doesn't help the story at all. When characters are supposed to feel sorry, they sound the same. When there supposed to feel relieved, they sound the same. I'm looking at you Price. All in all, no matter how much we hate it, the odds of the CoD series dying soon is about as likely as Activision admitting they have enough money and they don't need anymore. Expand

Activision doesn't bother to make a new game engine. It continually copies the same game year in and year out. I'm tired of spending 60 bucks for a carbon copy of a game I played last year. I said to myself I would never buy a COD game again after Black ops. I'm tired of being fooled by activision. I DID play this game at my friends house. A lot of my friends are still under Activisions spell. They don't realize they are getting ripped off. The game is essentially the same as Modern Warfare 2. The campaign is the same, and so is the MP. The survival mode is new, but nothing special. PEOPLE NEED TO STOP BUYING COD GAMES SO ACTIVISION WILL MAKE A NEW GAME ENGINE!!!!

If people keep buying COD games that reuse the same engine, Activision will keep making a carbon copies of their games. We need to send Activision a message and teach them a lesson that we won't fall for their money hungry tactics anymore. From this moment forward, promise yourself that you wont:

Buy a Carbon copy of a COD game. DON"T BUY NEXT years COD!!

You wont pay 15 dollars for four maps

You won't wait online at midnight to buy a rehashed game

The list can go on and on.. but the bottom line is, Activision will keep using their customers if they keep buying this crap. Stand up and don't take it anymore. As gamers, we deserve better. Activision hasn't changed their engine since 2007. Thats complete garbage.

IMO, I felt W@W & Black Ops were rushed, unfinished, unpolished, & poorly made, & all the negatives that were in those two games, have resurfaced in MW3, and then some. A whole lot of and then some. I'm not going to go into all the problems, but trust me. It may look like a MW game, it may sound like MW, heck, it may even smell like MW, but this trash doesn't deserve to hold the title that has come to represent an overall excellent gaming experience as far as FPS go. Once you get into this game & checking under the hood, You'll see things don't work like they should. So, so many things are just "off" and broken.

I'm sorry but either you're Full of Poop, got paid for your endorsement of this game, or have never played a video game before in your life. Yeah, I'm attacking journalistic credibility I'm so P.O. right now.

I've never bothered to write a review about anything, but I am so letdown, so regretting that I bought this garbage, & so disheartened with the C.O.D. series at this point, I have to say something & hope someone will listen. I know a lot of people worked hard to make this game, but bottom line, obviously the heart & soul of the IW crew that made Call of Duty: Modern Warfare such an event in the gaming world, left due to the fallout with Activision, and they took with them the know how & quality of the series. As well as my interest & desire to play another Call of Duty game. I will NEVER buy another Call of Duty game. EVER! I WANT MY MONEY BACK!

Played them both a lot. When I brought this game home and loaded it up I went into shock as I could not believe what I was playing. All the colours are pale grey or orange, and the graphics bleed and pixelate. The soldiers do not even look like soldiers, they look like R2D2. They're way too tall and skinny and dressed in sci-fi gold uniforms. They waddle around like cheap action figures and it looks nothing like human movement. The guns shoot like laser guns and sound like powerless laser guns. And not a bit of recoil on the weapons.

And the maps. Maybe the most important part. The previous 2 installments had some great maps, if there were weak maps they certainly were not broken. And they contained some element of modern design, within cities or landscapes where modern warfare would occur. They were not very realistic maps but contained thoughtful design. The maps of mw3 could not have been a map pack, they are terrible, it is a completely different game. The maps are a random assortment of pipes and corridors. There is no scale to the soldiers and the corridors are nothing like anything you'd ever imagine for modern warfare. Every map is exactly the same. Take the smallest black ops map, add 4 more corridors for every three, and make sure it is a random assortment of industrial junk. There is no thought to the maps whatsoever and no skill involved in the game because of it.

This game is like stepping back into time to poor Halo knockoffs. There is nothing resembling Modern Warfare here. For those that complain of BF3 fanboys, well, the point is obvious. BF3 offers the best multiplayer gameplay since Left 4 Dead. As for a modern warfare game BF3 offers human soldiers, scaled environments, balanced maps, strategic structuring of teams, and vehicles. MW3 offers R2D2 warfare, no strategy, and consumerism. It is obvious which game is better, and there must be comparisons to BF3 because it is the best warfare multiplayer to date. MW3 only gets such great reviews because of Wall Street business tactics. It's an absurd joke on all of us who spent money on this game. I should have purchased Man vs Wild or something.

The lag is tremendous because there are no dedicated servers and the maps are the worst of the past 4 COD games. They are flat with no multi-level fighting and awfully cluttered. Overall they are a disaster and receive a 0, therefore this game rates a 2 on my scale because it doesn't deserve to be rounded up. Expand

Game is Call of Duty. Nothing new. Mainstream **** Look at other game sequels, flourishing with new forms of innovation that bring to a title. This game has turned into something very similar to TV shows. The first few were good, gets pretty crappy afterwards.

    Played out.

This is MW 2.5. For years now the call of duty franchise has been shipping out the same game year after year and making millions off it while games like Battlefield 3 put so much work into their games only to be outsold by a game we've all been playing since 2008.

It is difficult to recommend this game if you own virtually any recent version of the CoD series. Game play and graphics quality is virtually unchanged. The single player campaign is somewhat better than previous versions, it is not the greatest FPS story or campaign.

MW3 maps are trash , not fun .. they all have the same feel .. everything has invisible walls .. even bushes. This game really just feels like a expansion with tweaked multiplayer. I spent alot of time on MW2 , and even WaW and BOps , however am having a very difficult time forcing myself to play it. The single player is of course sort of neat .. but mainly only because of the special wow moments of the destuction happening in the background such as the falling of the eiffel tower. None of course is really interactive. The rest of the game is just shoot and take down a swarm of unrealistic AI enemies which are set to come when your player reaches a point or until to reach a set point to make them stop and continue with the story. Then as if a 60 Dollar price tag wasnt enough .. you can purchase a 50 dollar 1 year membership to basically get the expansions when games like Battlefield will have the first expansion and its free which is releasing in December. So just for the basic version plan on dishing out 110.00 Bucks to play everything. Modern Warfare 3 is a okay game .. however you can see the difference in quality from when Infinity Ward was truley a sole company and when the leftover Infinity Ward and SledgeHammer games get toghether and put out a "sequel" Expand

But what is it? I do not fool me again again! Every year, take a game and the only thing they change is the subtitle, nothing but care about money. But who cares about the users? right?

I have given this a 0 because of the complete lack of innovation in the cod series. This is completely ridiculous. I can not believe that they have still not changed anything. Especially when it comes at the same time battlefield 3 breaks records. How does cod respond, with the exact same game they have shipped us 4 times in a row. This game seriously brings nothing new to the table for Call of Duty, it's almost as if it's an expansion from MW2. Don't get me wrong, CoD is a solid shooter but, being a sequel and looking at the overall game you're paying 60 dollars for, it isn't worth it and Infinityward/sledgehammer should be ashamed that they even released a mockery like this to the gaming industry. The Graphics are poor being the second sequel, the game play is dull and repetitive, the story is so cliche and feels like you could see whats coming from a mile away. They haven't fixed any of the problems that were apparent in the last two games and I feel like they never will. This game is no 9.5 (ign) and it sure as hell isn't an 8-7-6 either. This game at the most is a 5, but it deserves a 0 for the lack of an attempt to make a good game. What made Halo's multiplayer so good? Innovation, how about you take a look at your rival Bungie for once IW/Sledge', you might make a great game like you did with CoD4. Expand

Appalled by review scores. Battlefield gets ripped on the fact that they added a singleplayer mode to what is essentially a multiplayer only game, just as an addition to add value to the game, yet Activision gets away with this crap every year. It's all about the money, and they're making a lot of it.

    Bad game is bad.

Why are they chargin £50 for this? The same rehashed crap that was released years ago. £50 for a terrible map pack, not to worry they will release some more packs in a few weeks costs £15.

Although Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 is without doubt a very good game, it feels more like a expansion than a full game. While that's good for the hardcore CoD fans, it's disappointing to the rest, that such a "cheap" game still turns out to be one of the most successful games of this year...of course many sales are accounted to the good name and reputation of "Call of Duty" and more soever "Modern Warfare" and "Infinity Ward". I say Activision has to step up it's game and stop with the annual cheap CoD sequels and make something worth our money. If I were a gamer, not sure whether to buy MW3 I'd go and buy MW1, which is cheaper, had it's original creators working on it and has less problems than MW3.
Many people like to say: Why improve on something that is already good?
To that I say: There's always room for improvement, no game's perfect.

Well not a whole lot has changed from the previous COD's, besides a couple new mp modes. Thankfully I picked up both, cod mw3 and bf3, but it looks like i'll stick with bf3.

I've been an avid player of FPS shooters for a while now. This game is utterly atrocious. After playing some Black Ops (which I mildly enjoyed, if that at all. I don't think CoD's multiplayer has been entertaining ever since they initiated it in CoD3, but maybe this time it would be decent, good, maybe even fun. I plopped it in and... Well it's garbage. Complete and total garbage. In fact calling MW3 garbage is insulting garbage, because garbage is better than MW3.
I'll start out with the multiplayer. After playing some story mode to get use to the controls to see if they were any different (not really) I went in and started playing some multiplayer. It's the same thing I've been playing for a good couple years, except somehow worse. The killstreak turned pointstreak system is idiotic and I was skeptical at it's unveiling, but seeing it in action truly made me cringe.
Each option is bad, one being overpowered (you don't lose points after death), one ho hum (the traditional kill streak system, but more boring), and the other idiotic and inconceivable (you gain perks every kill, HOW THOUGHT OUT).
I could go on how imbalanced the system and game is but it would be more of the same. This game is disgustingly terrible and a waste of money. Please save your hard earned cash (or your parent's, in that case, you will probably LOVE this "game") for something else. Or maybe just burn it, it's a better way of throwing away money.

This game is utterly terrible, it's jingoistic, ugly, barely different from its equally terrible predecessors, and an overall wretched mess. I wish I hadn't purchased it. I'll be returning my copy shortly for some trade-in credit, with a good 20 dollars still lost. Never again.

terrible. same old same old garbage. wake up players. I bought this title with the intention of getting a game that was worth $60. Turns out that it was just a waste of money. Activision should have just released this game as DLC for MW2, because thats basically what it is. Don't waste your money with this game.

Same old stuff, same $60 price tag, different name. Enough said. Didn't expect much, didn't get much. Campaign is pretty good, better than the BF3 campaign, but the BF3 MP destroys the MW3 MP.

MW3=MW2. Same shirt different day. I feel really sorry for the developers on this one because a lot of gamers will be upset about paying $65 for a 5 hour campaign and recycled multiplayer.

First things first: I don't buy these games for 'campaign' or 'singleplayer' as I like playing against humans as opposed to bots. Secondly all the good changes which were made to blackops are lacking (like when you knife someone from behind) or dive! its also a shame thue 'design your own emblem' didn't transfer across from black ops to mw3. The game is lacking is detail of after game stats in things like domination. How many did we capture? and finally, the graphics and realism now appear dated in comparison to Battlefield 3 (which is surprising considering they stole the 'weapon level up' idea from the battlefield games) - destructable landscapes might bave been good!

IF it wants to be kill kill kill based as opposed to objective based then why didn't it have a gears3 or Halo (Horde) type mode ?! Such a shame!

Ultimately, Modern Warfare 3 feels similar to it's brethren, but that doesn't mean it isn't a great game. The single player element is still exciting, and multiplayer has more options than ever – if you're a fan of Call of Duty, Modern Warfare 3 is a no brainer.

Modern Warfare 3, while still an excellent thrill ride in its own right, feels far too similar to MW2 or even Black Ops for my taste.
  3. I never expected Modern Warfare 3 to go toe-to-toe with EA's juggernaut this year, but it came out of the gates with a tour de force campaign and co-op mode. It loses points with a perhaps too-familiar multiplayer that caters to the juvenile on Xbox Live; though don't be mistaken, Modern Warfare 3 is one hell of a shooter and a highlight for a series that just won't die – no matter how much we wish it bloody would, at times.
