I don't have words to describe the lack of effort put into this game, but I will try. Activision managed to recycle all of the structures and assets from previous games like it is some kind of virtual garbage dump. The engine is the exact same as Modern Warfare 2, they were so busy laughing to the bank that they even forgot to change the crash messege on the PC from MW2 to MW3. This game was not made for gamers, its only purpose is making a profit and creating brainwashed fanboys by churning out a game every 6 months so they do not have time to think. The critics clearly have not played the other games, or activision paid them off for good reviews. And don't even get me started ob the story *shudders*. The storyline is the same in every game, with no creativity or effort, and it is five gruling hours. This game is basicly a $60 map pack for MW2 (I loved that game, but after black op's came out I began to see the big picture). I would rather ride a public detroit buss around for 5 hours instead of playing this abomination, hell I would rather grind this game up and snort it instead of playing this game, at least a trip to the hospital will be exciting. Do yourself a favor, save your money and go buy a game that is worth your money such as used copy of MW1 or MW2, mass effect 1+2, skyrim, Ect. Oh, did I mention that that was only the single player? Don't even get my started about all the butthurt racist 12 year olds that you will be playing with, and all the extreme to the max try hard's. Im not even going to mention the small cramped maps and the spawning problems, it makes me feel like I am homeless and living in a cardboard box, from which I cannot escape. Also Soap and all the main charecters die (there I just saved you 5 hours of pain and suffering). Expand

But this one doesnt even pull from black ops yet pulls from MW2 and just adds a few new guns/perks and maps, back in the day this used to be called an expansion and was usually around 20 bucks. For instance CoD:United Offensive, they added a great campaign (probably the greatest in the CoD franchise) and that lasted around 10 hours. They also added a full game worth full of maps. Newer weapons and they added vehicles, all of that for 20 bucks and that was 2 fold more content that the full MW3 game priced at 3 times the ammount of UO. Expand

First off I would like to say this is nowhere a fanboy review against Call of Duty; played the original on PC, loved CoD 3 when everybody was ripping on it, supported CoD4 when everybody was saying Halo was going to be GOTY, played both WaW and CoD4 betas when they were closed to the public. That being said, one the successes that CoD has influenced on the FPS genres was lead by the innovation the development team creates. Yet this year, even with bringing two new development teams to the mix, very few new game mechanics were brought into the game. Like a lot of people are saying how MW3 is just a map pack for MW2, the only real "new" aspect of the game is new maps and weapons. Weapon proficiencies is just a perk slot you earn for a specific gun and kill streaks are still the most emphasized attribute, more than playing the game mode. With all the drama involving IW you would think they would have dished out something spectacular this year. If you liked MW2, this game will keep you moving forward. Otherwise, this shall go down as one if not the biggest game let down ever. Sorry IW, I love ya but you don't get my vote this year. Expand

Wow, this did not turn out at all like I expected. I didn't want to believe it was just more of the same even though the signs were deffinately there. The franchise that has rules the FPS genre for years now has finally turned into nothing but a cash-milking machine.

It pains me a little to say this, but... It is going back to the store.

I can now (sadly) call myself a FORMER CoD fan.

I will admit I love Battlefield 3 and have arguments with a friend between both games, so I'm sure this game play appeals to someone, but that someone is not me. When I initially started the multiplayer, I chose a M4 and I was being killed, spawn killed, and out shot left and right. My friend reminded me to play "call of duty style" which is sub machine gun and run around. Sadly, I turned my brain off to play this game. Single player is the same ridiculous Michael Bay story that doesn't make sense and takes 6 hours to beat, and multi player is the same camping fest. Same old graphics engine, more There is nothing new in this game that is worth paying for. The Treyarch Call of Duty titles at least had Zombie mode to make up for the lack of worthwhile content. The same cannot be said of Infinity Ward, as they push out the same game year after year.

If you actually liked MW2, there probably isn't anything you will dislike about this game. But at least acknowledge that you are getting ripped off. This is the same thing Madden does: update the roster, tweak a few modes, and call it a sequel. The same thing Guitar Hero did: add some new songs and call it a sequel. Here's a newsflash: adding a few maps and weapons does not warrant a full priced sequel, especially when you release a new one every single year. The executives only let the quality of these games sink so low because they know people are going to buy it anyway. And so far, they've been right.

I suspect at this point you might be tired of modern first person shooters. If you aren't, check out Battlefield 3. It isn't a perfect game by any means, but it at least is a step in the right direction for games. DICE chose to support their older games with DLC, prolonging their life, and took the time to develop an innovative and polished sequel, instead of rushing it out last year. If another modern FPS isn't what you are looking for, plenty of other games this holiday season deserve your money much more than MW3.

What's changed this time? Not much. You've got a few new modes to multiplayer and a change in presentation. That's just about it. The singleplayer continues from the embarassing plot line from MW 2 and continues to prove that gaming devs can be some of the worst story-tellers of all time. The game runs under the same engine as every previous game, dating back to Call of Duty 2 from 2005. If you do a side-by-side comparison of Call of Duty 2 and MW 3, you will see how little progress has been made graphically 6 years later. Since the engine is still the same, the physics, AI, and everything else that goes into gameplay is still the same. This is clear laziness on the developers' parts and shows that this franchise is going nowhere fast. I own every Call of Duty except for Big Red One and MW3, and for good reason. This review contains to silly bias, as I've been a fan of the series much longer than 99% of its fans even knew the series existed, let alone played one of its installments. Take it from me, this series is dead and if you're a gamer with accelerating preferences, this is not the game for you. If you're wondering whether to purchase MW 3 or Battlefield 3, buy neither. Unless you have a high-end PC, Battlefield isn't the game for you either, as its console versions are a poor representation of the series. Unfortunately, the biggest concern with MW 3 is how it will impact the rest of the industry. Perhaps more shooters will adopt the Call of Duty model of shooters, and anyone with preferences like mine will give up on the genre all together. Expand

If you're comparing it to the other Modern Warfare titles, it sucks. The graphics have somehow gotten WORSE since Modern Warfare 2. They made the maps bigger...which is a fail because Call of Duty is all about fast paced action, and there's nothing fast pace about trying to find enemies. None of the maps even seem well thought out...most of them are random buildings, cars and pipes randomly thrown all over the place. The game is just a mess. This is my last Call of Duty game and I'm strongly considering selling this game. I thought Black Ops sucked, but honestly, it was better than this game.

This means we - the fans - get regurgitated content year after year, and I quite frankly am not interested in that.

What I AM interested in is a new call of duty game engine, a true cover system, and gameplay mechanics that will give me pause and think "wow, that was cool." The only reason why I bought this was for the multiplayer, to be honest, but I think I am going to hold off on buying any more Call of Duty games until they show me they can bring something different to the table. Scrap the old game engine. It has had its day, but its day is done. Put a new game engine in, and push yourself to innovate a tired genre. The folks over there at DICE are on the right track, I think.

The graphics still look like how it was 2 years ago, or better yet 4 years ago. Yes, this game has horrible graphics and it is as if the game is an expansion to MW2. Sadly, the whole COD franchise is already becoming a series of repetitive map packs with a different campaign. The multiplayer also seems to have ripped off the idea of dogtags from previous Battlefield games. What's wrong, InfinityWard? Are your games all of the sudden losing its touch to the point where you need to copy from a bigger stronger franchise? This game is lucky to receive a 0 from me because I refuse to give it anything higher. The reason for this is because of how not only did this game disappoint me, but the whole damned franchise too. The gameplay has been stagnant for these 4 years as well. The Single player campaign is a laughable 3 hours long and consists of a story that resembles something a 4th grader would write up during study hall. The multiplayer brings nothing new to the table, it is nearly identical to all previous installments.

If you are on the fence as to buy CODMW3 or not, don't. Go and play Black OPs or MW2 or MW and you'll be receiving the same exact experience. I'd recommend not touching this series at all.

Not impressed, laggy, hit detection issues, repetitve gameplay. Single player much as one would expect. Can be fun in very short bursts but there are far too many superior games out there for this one to be a keeper.

I already bought this game on 11/10/09. I would recommend passing on this game and going with something different. Either Battlefield 3 or Gears of War 3 would be great choice.

Stop taking continued loyalty for granted.
Stop increasing prices for what is essentially the same product.
Stop reselling DLC content which people already own and recharging them.

Yes i've had a great time with COD over the years but something has to change.

Not much innovation here move along. If you've never played a Modern Warfare game before you're better off just buying Modern Warfare 2 for a cheaper price.

With Infinity Award losing alot of staff i had hoped that it would not impact quite so greatly but as i can see they must have had the creative minds behind the previous modern warfare success's. The Gears of war series has improved year to year and while not reinventing the wheel have been inovative. This however is sheer laziness and the developers actually asking for help from the community to bump up the score is laughable i would personally love my money back as i have not received the game they have so promised. If you have plenty of money to burn on a glorified map pack have at it. Expand

The new MW is the same as the old MW. Just pretend you are in a movie that consists of all the James Bond films' action scenes, randomly strung together, with a few war movie classics thrown in for good measure. I realize that this is probably all many people want but I prefer a game.

For some reason, I'm especially bothered by MW3's continued, pretentious use of famous and out-of-context, quotes. Quoting MLK is especially perverse, and this is why I'll give it a score of 0 rather than the 5 or 6 it probably deserves. MP is still solid but hasn't changed much since MW1. A certain other shooter is leaps and bounds ahead now, both graphically and game play wise.

The garbage you've paying $60 every year is back and now it want to take another $50 for a service called Elite, what a rip off! MW3 is slapped together campaign, and a rehash of online feature. Stay away from games like this and get a quality game like Skyrim.

Talk about Tony Hawking or Guitar Heroing another series. There is nothing new here that one has not played before in Modern Warfare 2 or Black Ops. Sure, you get updated graphics on a tired Modern Warfare engine and a few new doodads. Yet, nothing game breaking or innovative. This series is going the way of Tony Hawk and Guitar Hero. Two great series who were milked dry by annual releases.

The good thing that MW3 has going for it is the large array of maps. There are enough maps that you a person shouldn't get sucked into purchasing DLC over the next 12 months. Where the game fails is graphically. The maps work, but they feel very dated. Spec-ops is a great concept, but why is it limited to 2 players? Probably because the developers did not take the time to evolve the game. The good thing that MW3 has going for it is the large array of maps. Ultimately, Modern Warfare 3 feels similar to it's brethren, but that doesn't mean it isn't a great game. The single player element is still exciting, and multiplayer has more options than ever – if you're a fan of Call of Duty, Modern Warfare 3 is a no brainer.

Modern Warfare 3, while still an excellent thrill ride in its own right, feels far too similar to MW2 or even Black Ops for my taste.
  3. I never expected Modern Warfare 3 to go toe-to-toe with EA's juggernaut this year, but it came out of the gates with a tour de force campaign and co-op mode. It loses points with a perhaps too-familiar multiplayer that caters to the juvenile on Xbox Live; though don't be mistaken, Modern Warfare 3 is one hell of a shooter and a highlight for a series that just won't die – no matter how much we wish it bloody would, at times.
