Sequels are suppose to be innovative, look at assassins creed 1 to 2 or dare I say it battlefield Vietnam to battlefield 2 on pc.

both those games jumped astronomically in upgrades and changes for the better.

MW3 is the MW2 repackaged with new maps and new campaign. If you like spending your money on something you already own then by all means go ahead.

So they just can't seem to one-up themselves since COD4 sure the multiplayer formula works, its addictive, and fun until you start getting s****ed on, but it would be nice to see some major improvements other than the ridiculous killstreaks and just making old pro-perks an entirely new perk now, some, if any groundbreaking originality would be nice two sequels later (from IW). The maps are finally back to how they used to be no more of the huge sightlines and too many spots to go prone in so its not a heaven for skill-less, hardscoping, thermal-loving snipers (not that I'm a pro sniper) good old close encounters and still plenty of open space to run around in is the foundation for good maps in my opinion. I would say these are the best launch maps seen in any cod game (treyarch or IW) since cod4, and just about all the game modes are playable on every map, something I haven't seen for a while in the cod series.

As for the campaign its nice to finally see the conclusion to the MW "story" if you can even call it that but this was absolutely, by far the worst campaign I have ever played in the cod series and ive played all cod's since cod2 all the way through MW3. The campaign missions are all so repetetive; follow the squad leader through this linear war-torn street while the enemies just run out to their slaughter from the left side to the right one by one and go to the same spots they ran to the last 15 times you played this mission. The whole war-torn street thing gets kind of old by the 4th mission thats not task force 141 (they're missions actually are okay but still much of the same, 3 guys killing 1,000,000 stupid mofos that get in their way and no matter how surrounded they get they always make it out just about unscathed.

All in all if your looking for the same good ol' time we've been forcefed for the 5th time now since cod4 then go ahead and buy it I don't blame you I borrowed it from a friend for about a week and now im convinced i actually want to buy it just because I actually enjoy the multiplayer for the first time since cod4. But by no means is this game worthy of even being whispered in the GOTY race it just doesn't change enough, even though it is nice to actually see some of the rampant hacking that quickly overtook and destroyed mw2 gone, the game just doesn't offer a deffinitively new experience like cod4 did back in '07. And just because I would personally like to see some dramatic change or at the very least some new groundbreaking aspect that reinvents the series and the genre it helped bolster instead of riding the same wave of success, and also I want to send a message to the developers and producers that somethings gotta give and we deserve some change for the good eventually after pouring out $60 every year for basically a title update to cod4 the game to me really deserves a 6.5/10 but for the sake of attempting to send a message I'm giving it a 0 on here.

I literally can't believe the sheep idealogic of gamers these days. I can NOT believe that people are so willing to pay money hand over fist for the same game every year. E-V-E-R-Y Y-E-A-R!

Let's start off with the obvious. This game costs £10 more than the RRP of games in the UK (£40) why? Because they can.

This game forced Microsoft to bump the price of Xbox Live (terrible service anyway, it should be free) and then Activision takes all that extra money. Why? Because they can.

This game will have at least 4 batches of Multiplayer DLC which cost a quarter of the games price each time, so now Activision have you strung so hard you pay for the game TWICE for content that any half-competent modding team could churn out in a fortnight - from a bedroom.

In addition to all those extra charges, they've decided to release Call of Duty Elite. And because their fan base are such epic retards, they'll see 'Elite' and go "Hey! I want to be elite!" and buy it, all it is is a stat-tracking system and it gives you a reduction on the DLC cost and probably some extra **** in game. **** doo. That's absolutely no reason to charge £35 / $50 other than to gip off the fans which they are absolutely excellent at.

Now lets look at the game. For a start, it's had way less than 2 years development time. This is NOT ACCEPTABLE for a game that makes waves as big as COD makes. Do some math, IF the game sells 30,000,000 copies, and of the $70 that the game costs, $25 of that goes to the developers, then they are making $750,000,000 bi-yearly on the game, not forgetting that the COD-train keeps rolling each year picking up more idiots as it goes, so each year it seems to make more money.

So 750 Million dollars straight to developers, and they do nothing with it. Proof? Look at the **** assets in the game. More than half of them are ripped straight from COD4 / MW2 / Black Ops. This is atrocious video game design, developers should be striving to re-make assets, make them better, not just re-texture (or in most cases, straight export - import) and call it a day.

So they have all these assets, all the work they need to do is - Work out the basic plot and conclusion (which is completely lacklustre)

Create a 4-5 hour long campaign, that requires map making, but half your assets are already here so basically it's like creating a map in the CryEngine 2 Sandbox creator - piece of absolute piss. Shouldn't take long.

    Record the voice acting

They DON'T really need to code anything new, seeing as it's just new maps, skins and dialogues.

That's campaign out the way, for Multiplayer, just make some new maps, doesn't take long, add some new weapons / attachments in, again, doesn't take long, and then job done.

How they can justify that this game is worth the price is utterly baffling. Just, completely and utterly baffling. Considering they knocked it out so quickly, Activision are onto a winner here. And I can assure you they are laughing all the way to the bank with this. "I can't believe these idiots are buying the same **** year after year!"

Look out for the next COD game in 2012, made by Treyarch. I guarantee you, I would willingly bet my life and my families lives that it will be Black Ops 1.5 - Just new ham-handled 4 hour story, more maps and a small assortment of new weapons.

Do yourselves a favour and buy Battlefield 3. Really, BF 2 came out in 2005 and this is just a tremendous leap for gaming, and DICE truly deserve the praise.

What the **** is going on with reviewers? They're handing out above 9 scores like it's Candy on Halloween. One reviewer is quoted as saying "The Spec-Ops mode is worth the price of admission alone"

let's break that down, the few hour co-op mode is worth the $70 it costs for the game.

Somebody forbid that site from reviewing games ever again as it's clear they don't have the first clue what they're talking about.

Get BF3. Get a game that took longer than a year to develop. Get a game where the developers don't take years to fix bugs that then appear in the following games (Care package glitch, anyone?) Get a game with some heart in it.

The campaign took me 4 hours and 40 minutes on Regular difficulty, I took my time loking for hidden intel of which I collected 22 of the 46 pieces, it's the shortest Call of Duty campaign yet and the shortest FPS campaign I've certainly ever played. It's full of impressive set pieces with buildings falling down around the player's linear path, but these superficial big budget set pieces barely hide to anyone with experience with MW or MW2 that so much content from them is recycled with just a few minor edits made to the textures to fool the player into thinking what they're seeing is new (case in point: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=b5dsOn06w1s - an entire building from CoD4), this goes for character models, animations, weapons, vehicles, gameplay sequences (for example the boat secion in MW2), a huge amount of content is reused and the game seems to be built around what they could recycle more than what they could create from scratch. The lack of originality or even intention to be original is present throughout the entire game. The story itself is actually quite enjoyable and feels as much a sequel to CoD4 and MW2, making it tie together nicely as a trilogy, though some sections make it feel more like a fanfic than a true sequel (considering that most of the people who worked on MW2 left and had nothing to do with MW3), the last mission was more of a QTE filled joke than a satisfying conclusion. I wonder how different it would've turned out had 40 of the key staff from IW, the original and only true CoD developer, due to Activision's disgusting treatment of the series, the staff and their creation. I won't even go to the clunkily added controversial scene involving the death of a random child that felt tacked on or the fact that everyone the player kills in the campaign is either African or Russian.

Spec Ops is a mixed bag, the missions are a mix of fun and terrible, and the Veteran difficulty is like that of the campaign, a very lazily added hard difficulty where the player dies to psychic enemies in around 3 bullets, usually within a second of peeking out from cover (and by peeking I mean moving, as there is still no lean function). The survival mode however is a lot of fun, it works well as two player co-op and a lot of the tedium from the other survival mode in the series, Zombies, is removed by taking out the luck factor with the amount of ammo the player can get and which weapons they acquire. There's a lot of fun to be had here with a friend and it runs smoothly online, the same can't be said for the multiplayer though.

In the previous Call of Duty, Black Ops, quickscoping was removed on the basis it's a cheap exploit of the game's aim assist, and that was a good call, though it annoyed many kids who like to do it in MW2. They brought this back in MW3 to please those kids and without regard for the quality of their game's online, this sums up their approach to the multiplayer. As a reskin of MW2 it of course plays quite similarly, they've made attempts to better balance the game with how effective the knife, grenade launchers and killstreak rewards are (which amongst quickscoping ranked as the biggest complaints of MW2's multiplayer) and the new point streak system is a nice addition, but all of the technical problems with this peer hosted, laggy mess with poor hit detection and terrible matchmaking still remain, taking a lot of the fun out of playing it, along of course with the huge focus on player's stats (made worse by in-depth stat tracking) that has most players approaching the game in as cheap a way as possible to camp themselves to a high kill/death ratio. The new game modes aren't actually to original either, some of them may as well credit other older and more recent games considering they're so close to them in design. The map design itself is a campfest, designed by Raven Software as after the majority of IW including all its creative and technical talent it took the few left at IW and other Activision developer Slegehammer Games to design the bulk of the game and they needed help fitting map design into their tight schedule, as of course a Call of Duty has to be out every single Novemeber in order to monopolise on the Christmas sales.

Lazily made rehash that might as well urinate on the grave of the original Infinity Ward, Activision's approach to this franchise is a good representation of everything that's wrong with the game industry right now.

Those running in most of these maps end up with only moderate high kills and moderate to high deaths while campers have high kills and low deaths. Guns barely kick and are pretty unreaslistic. Same game as every year, the graphics still look as they did in cod 2, the gameplay did not change at all. It's absolutely overpriced, the campaign is too short, there is nothing new in multiplayer.

Activision is getting what they deserve, this is what happens when all you care about is money. I've played cod 4 and mw2. They were pretty good but after releasing a game every year they went downhill for me. I haven't payed them a buck since.

Tony Hawk and Guitar Hero are both dead because they made so much money the first or second time around and just became so stale they lost sales. This probably wont happen with MW3 but it really should. Everything from building models to textures, weapons and even sounds have been recycled for the latest entry of COD which as an aspiring game designer very much depresses me. Developing games needs to be efficient but this is downright lazy, but since the developers have their balls in vice by Activision they dont really have a choice. I even remember seeing an article about sledgehammer saying "MW3 is not just a cut and paste game" well if you have to say that, it probably is. There are even youtube videos proving this point. Another questionable statement I remember hearing was "We're hear to develop games, not engines" in response to the announcement of DICE's all new Frostbite 2 engine, which is much better looking and brings destruction to the table instead of just being able to shoot through walls. Look at the first MW compared to MW3, not much of a difference in graphics, gameplay or the audience that plays it (foul mouth teenagers and even younger children). If you look at BF2 compared to BF3 there is a complete over haul of the graphics, gameplay and now an even bigger audience. I dont wish to be seen as a fanboy for BF3, but rather I am just stating facts of what I have witnessed and played as well as what I have learned from going to school for Game Design. Despite all these flaws and shortcuts, MW3 will sell millions of copies and no doubt there will be another COD next year. Hopefully the general public will start to see how stale this series has become over the years, but there's no guarantee. Activision will continue to push out COD every year until it stops making money plain and simple. And it is a shame that the founders of Infinity Ward were "escorted from the premises" after a legal dispute between them and Activision. Ironically enough, they joined EA and formed Respawn Entertainment, and I for one can't wait to see what they will come up with next. MW3 brings nothing truly new to the FPS genre and therefore deserves a low score. Either wait a few years and truly develop something new for COD, or create a new franchise! This is becoming an annoying routine to see the general gaming public play out every year... Expand

Guns dont sound real and when there is an awesome moment about to happen the sounds quality really dulls it down for me. Multiplayer - Some people dont even get into campaign and get straight to multiplayer. Multiplayer sure is smooth and refined but it is just not fun. From someone who use to be a huge COD fan for a long time, I gotta say I'm disappointed. Playing this game nice if you enjoyed the other COD games, but I feel 100% ripped. It is essentially MW 1.3 rather then a trilogy . Sure it's new maps, new perks and what not. But it literally feels like a copy and paste experience.

I'll probably end up trading this in for something else, maybe BF3 or Skyrim.

You can't get away with forcing people to pay 60 bucks for a five hour campaign, and the same multiplayer experience that has been shipped out with this series for the last four years. Just play BLOPS or MW2, they are the exact same game as MW3 just with a different coat of paint.

Single player is decent. Multiplayer is a wreck. Small environments, old graphics engine, this game could have been an xbox live arcade download. The weapons have no individual characteristics, no realism at all if they were trying, just a cheap game with no soul.

Great story but a rehashed system. It's more like MW2.5. Really disappointing after all of its hype. I think the competitor had more realism this season. Hopefully by next year there will be a better engine.

Rage excelled graphically and had incredible AI. Games such as Just Cause 2 gave us freedom to roam and destroy. Now tell me one thing this terrible excuse of a game has done since the last installment, in fact, make that the first installment. There are the new maps, a scattering of new guns and modes. It is clear to me why it takes only a year to make this game, because it is just the same game as the previous installment, but in a shiny new box with a fancy new midnight launch. It is about time gamers used their brains and spent their money where it is actually deserved, not on some cheap remake. Reward innovation and keep the developers who care in business. Not those who add an elite club and charge you as much for the game costs to join it.

It had an engaging single player campaign, and fantastic multiplayer. All the CoD iterations since then seem to have just been minor, incremental upgrades, the sort of thing I would normally expect to see in a large patch or expansion pack. The campaigns have gone steadily downhill, and at this point, it feels like even the developers themselves didn't want to include it. They just felt obligated to tack on something on top of their overused multiplayer formula. I remember when CoD was the soldiers story, where it was deeply emotional and involving, and MW3 tries desperately to evoke some of those feelings that it's earlier predecessors brought on, but it falls flat. You can't have a chain of giant explosions, waves of infinitely-spawning enemies being ground up like a woodchipper, hundreds of people dying all around you, and then suddenly expect you to care when one person in particular is killed, only to immediately jump back to screeching guitars and more explosions.

The multiplayer audience is still, as always, not the kind of crowd I would ever want to spend time playing games with. Children, and adults that behave like children, fill the online servers, screaming profanities in my ears. The killstreaks are far from balanced, and it's easy for a single player (who likely hasn't put the controller down since the game came out) to completely dominate the game, racking up dozens of kills while other players can do nothing but spawn and die repeatedly and wait for the game to be over. Sure, you get lots of numbers popping up every time you do anything, and some people find that satisfying. But you know another game that did that? Bulletstorm. And that game was garbage. It was specifically designed to be over-the-top and ridiculous, and MW3 is rapidly approaching that point as well. The difference is, they're not doing it on purpose to be ironic.

Not that it will matter, since tens of millions of you will go out and buy it anyway, but if you have any sense at all, I strongly suggest you avoid this title. Go pick up a copy of CoD 4 on steam, hop on a good server, and have fun, without all the irritation.

If you look at wiki they even have the page blocked. I guess they don't want fan reviews being posted under the "reception" category. Let's start with why I think this game deserves the rating I gave it. I'm gonna go by gameplay since that's the main thing and story is not as important to me. This is not a new game. The skins and most of the guns are the same from MW2. They have a new leveling system for guns which takes a real long time. Once again, there is pretty much no point to prestige. If anything your at a worse disadvantage under this system. Also, there are a lot of little glitches which definitely should be patched. I'm talking about how you run, the hitmarkers, and switching weapons. I think that you appear on the map if you get hit by flash. It's just stupid stuff that doesn't do anything but make the game worse. I just don't understand why it was like that in the first place. If they test the game they should see that it's dumb. Also, cod elite is just a rip of bungie.net. To me, I've grown tired of competitive gaming. Halo 3 and Halo 2 took some skill so I understood it, but Reach and Cod is just a different game. Now, stats are going to take even more priority over teamwork. All the good things that black ops did like Combat Training, Wager Matches, Zombies, PURE playlists. They got nothing to compare on here. Spec Ops was suppose to be a calling card to this game, but it just falls flat. It has too much randomness involved imo to match zombies. Although, zombies have lost some of their challenge too since gravy train was invented. Anyways, I just think if your a cod fan you should stick to black ops. Or any other new game you want (BF3, Skyrim, Uncharted 3, ect). Call of duty is dead guys. Sorry, but it's the truth. IW has proven to me that there is no creative effort left in this project. The single player is the same old linear action movie wannabe ripoff that it always has been. Multiplayer has been changed up slightly but for the worse. Elite is a total ripoff. If you want a better Multiplayer experience go play battlefield 3.

This game was a real disappointment, and I wasn't expecting much since the CoD series is severely becoming tired. It all starts with the menu interface. Sure a couple of the game types, Kill Confirmed in particular, are a nice addition, but definitely not worth the $60+. Not to mention the $15 a pop for each 3-map pack that comes out. All I can hope is that this is a sign to Activision that they lost their gravy train of talent that is Infinity Ward when they lost Jay West, Vincent Zampella, and the rest of their loyal developers. Maybe, just maybe, they will hear the gamers' outcry from this flop and actually put some effort into the next game. Or perhaps they could just go the way they have with this series and reap in the profits by exploiting the lemmings, like myself, who will keep buying anything with the CoD name on it because they had an amazing time with one or more of the past games and are looking for that original high again. Actually, pardon me, this isn't a map pack. Oh no, this is "much more than that." This game features an incredibly lengthy single player mode that can be beaten in a little over 5 hours! Wow! The game also has the returning Spec Ops mode that is no where near as addicting as Black Ops Zombie mode, and, let's not forget, the multiplayer mode.

Did you enjoy the perks, level-up system, and guns of the previous Call of Duty games? Well, they're back, and just the same as ever. No innovation has been brought to the plate this time, and Infinity Ward has opted to go with the good 'ol "if it ain't broke, don't fix it" approach. The maps are all incredibly small, some of which are comparable in size to a backyard. The maps encourage camping and lack the epic scope that other FPS multiplayer maps offer.

But you know what? Infinity Ward should be commended for creating the CoD Elite system, where you can keep track of your various stats from previous matches you partook in. This is CLEARLY an innovative system that not many FPS' offer nowadays (*cough* Halo and Battlefield *cough*). Not only that, but you can also choose to give Infinity Ward your credit card information so you can get each map pack released within the next 12 months! This is obviously a sweet deal, since each map pack will cost $15 anyways if purchased separately. And each map pack will contain 4-5 shallow maps that don't encourage any new tactics different from the maps that come included with the game.

So all this for only #60? Why, it's a steal! It's not like I've already played this SAME EXACT GAME twice before already! Infinity Ward obviously spent the past two years crafting the best multiplayer FPS available. It's not innovative, it's repetitive, it doesn't reward clever tactics, and it offers an extremely shallow single player mode. BUT! It has multiplayer, complete with lag, hit-detection issues, and overpowered guns! What more could a pre-pubescent 13 year old boy ask for this Christmas?

Look, if they really wanna make this happen, y doesn't Infinity Ward &/or Activision do what they do to the brain dead critics as they do to the brain dead fans of the series and pay them under the table so they can get a good enough review so dumb-asses who look at critic scores will actually buy the game.

I've been playing this game - Campaign, Spec Ops and MP - since it released, and after thinking long and hard on it, all I can say is . . . meh. I just can't escape the feeling that this is really more of a DLC pack than it is a three-quel. I just can't escape the feeling that this is really more of a DLC pack than it is a three-quel. In terms of the Campaign, the best way to put it would be that the long and the short of it is that it is too short. I finished it the same day I bought the game. While I realize that the trend - ill-advised, in my opinion - is to sacrifice single-player for the multi-player component, a single-player campaign that short is an insult. Especially when the playability value of the multi-player part of the game will be severly undercut by those individuals who find ways to cheat (and just to note, it took less than six hours for people to start hacking the MP). As far as the multi-player goes, it would seem that the devs chose to keep all the worst aspects of the past iterations (Modern Warfare and Modern Warfare 2) while doing nothing to improve the experience. Spawn kills? Check. Modders? Check. Knives with thirty-foot blades that can stab you from across the room? Check. Ridiculously underpowered weapons? You get the idea. Look, I have some familiarity with many of the weapons in the game, and I understand that an endless succession of one- or two-shot kills is less than enjoyable . . . but on the other hand, it also doesn't take almost an entire magazine from an M4 to kill someone. Nor do trained soldiers, especially soldiers who are supposed to be elite, let the muzzles of their weapons wander around like drunken sailors on shore leave when they're aiming or firing. Also, despite all the handy tips, the game does nothing to encourage teamwork, even in an MP mode like "Kill Confirmed" where the whole point is that the road to success lies in teamwork. Finally, and again despite the helpful tips, the game continues to lack any kind of cover or concealment mechanic. Just a tip to the devs, concealment is where the enemy can't see you, but can still shoot you (in older days that was called "reconnaissance by fire") and cover is where the enemy can neither see you nor shoot you - and there are actually very few weapons capable of putting rounds through masonry or reinforced concrete walls, and pistols most certainly can't. At best, Modern Warfare 3 is an okay shooter, especially if you think real warfare consists of running around like a maniac. The sad thing is, it could have been a great shooter if the devs had concentrated on making a good game rather than on regurgitating the mistakes of the last two MW installments. Expand

Ultimately, Modern Warfare 3 feels similar to it's brethren, but that doesn't mean it isn't a great game. The single player element is still exciting, and multiplayer has more options than ever – if you're a fan of Call of Duty, Modern Warfare 3 is a no brainer.

Modern Warfare 3, while still an excellent thrill ride in its own right, feels far too similar to MW2 or even Black Ops for my taste.
  3. I never expected Modern Warfare 3 to go toe-to-toe with EA's juggernaut this year, but it came out of the gates with a tour de force campaign and co-op mode. It loses points with a perhaps too-familiar multiplayer that caters to the juvenile on Xbox Live; though don't be mistaken, Modern Warfare 3 is one hell of a shooter and a highlight for a series that just won't die – no matter how much we wish it bloody would, at times.
