Battlefield 3 may not be a Game changer but without a doubt has nailed a near perfect Multiplayer, from its class system to its Massive Online battles, Dice have really created a fun and addictive game that makes you feel like your in a "Battlefield". Anyone who is a military shooter fan this is a must buy.

Lets get the lesser part out of the way first. The campaign is okay, with a couple juicy parts in it but nobody is really here for the campaign, its the multiplayer! BF3's multiplayer is the best out there and will look to be up if not better than MW3.

Oh EA, so sure that this game would destroy Modern Warfare 3 if only it was true. All very impressive visuals and sound but when it comes to campaign, that's where everything goes wrong. The story takes itself too seriously, the boring jet ride, repetitive gameplay, just another story about USA vs Russia as if we haven't seen that before..."It doesn't matter!" A fanboy cried out "Graphics and Multiplayer Rock!". Ah, Multiplayer which is the best part of the game, I had fun with the beta but it went me tell you this. I can't play on Multiplayer, why? Because the code didn't work and I contacted Amazon and they contacted EA and EA said they said I will have to Buy it for 800 MSP. As if. The code's are getting pretty pathetic, at least in Bad Company 2 I could play online without the code but I won't get the free maps, I'm happy with that. This game is a huge disappointment. I regret ever buying this game. I'd hate to say this fanboy's, but when It comes to campaign, MW3 will win that one. Expand

Honestly, I am a huge battlefield fan and I mean huge I love every game of the series I have but Battlefield 3 is an unfinished product that needs a lot of patching before I can call it a smooth experience. To start off with the campaign is good but very generic, honestly a very good copy of COD Black Ops' campaign which I didn't like. The campaign also has a good number of glitches in it which can detract from the experience; overall I felt detached and found a few of the checkpoints to not even load and I had to restart the mission in order for the problem to be fixed. Multiplayer is amazing and in my opinion it is the best in the series and one of the only redeeming factor in the game; lots of unlocks, medals, camas, ribbons, and more. Multiplayer I feel and always will be the only reason you should buy a Battlefield game but all the other things like campaign and co-op are nice bonuses only problem with this just like co-op is the servers are absolutely terrible and connection is lost all the time and I can recall twice now were the servers were down for about 3 hours which is really aggravating .Co-op it is a nice experience and you can actually unlock guns for multiplayer in it which I felt was really cool; the co-op has six levels as of now. Overall I feel this is a worthy successor to BF2 but it has a lot of problems that can be renovated and if and when they are the game will shine in a better light but as of now the game feels unfinished although I still recommend that you pick it up given the chance. I love the immersive environments where objects can be moved or destroyed, environments that closely mimmick real life. Battlefield 3 does very well here as the landscape, buildings, and objects change from heavy fire and explosions. Nobody does this better in my opinion. The game also does very well in emulating live combat. There are some scripted parts which force certain movements which I'm not quite a fan of but overall it's palatable. The graphics are very good, not perfect, but I'd trade that for great gameplay and character movement any day. Downloading the HD resolution pack is a must do, it's a big file, but it looks great. The campaign was short and sweet with a great storyline and great character voice overs. The soundtrack is amazing. The reason I bought this game however, was for the multiplayer, and I have not been let down! The multiplayer is fantastic. I wasn't a fan of Bad Company 2's multiplayer. They went back to the drawing board on this one and scored huge. I love the fact that the game ranks you in different classes with different weapons and promotes you for different achievements unlike other military games...just as a soldier would pull rank and commendations in real life...this is also something that nobody else does better. The battlelog feature is awesome. The customization of your character is bar none. They have a really feature rich control menu that allows you to have a truly unique experience should you choose to switch classes or weapons. Excellent, the best when it comes to this.

I don't have preferences between BF or COD...I just love to play a great game.

Was looking forward to this, but it failed to live up to the hype. Why:
    - Campaign is really poor
    - Corrupt data. Lets start with the fact I and another person I know had the same problem, didn't save game properly and saved game corrupted. had to start again - Bad AI. Playing on hard, but as long as you don't get shot you really don't have to work too hard - Poorly scripted moments.

    - more poorly scripted moments. Ran up a street after a shoot out. Without warning got run over by a tank. Turns out you hit a point in the street and a tank appears on the left and bursts onto the street. No warning and no tolerance for what player might be doing... OMG
    - Poor environment. Most of the game is set in the dark and you have bright lights from cars and street lights in your eyes all the time. How do you see the environment and feel like you are in it. Just feels like this removes you a little. First time I have seen so many burnt out cars with their head lights still on full beam..

While its true that the multiplayer is clearly the focus of BF3, DICE still felt the need to add a campaign to bulk out the experience, you know why? To justify the price tag. If Battlefield 3 is a multiplayer-focused game, then for **** sake, cut out the single player **** and cut the price tag, I don't want to fork out $90 (Aussie) for a game only to find out that the Multiplayer is the only component worth its salt, at least with CoD they put a reasonable amount of effort into the campaign while still producing amazing multiplayer, and then there's the other modes like Spec. Ops and Zombies.
Nonetheless, 8 is a good score, and that's because the multiplayer is amazing, but I would very much suggest waiting until the price drops to get BF3, save the big money for meaty games like Assassin's Creed Revelations, Halo: CE Anniversary and Skyrim (a thousand **** times, buy Skyrim)

The coop is a new addition to the Battlefield franchise (unless you consider BFBC2 Onslaught mode a type of coop). There are 6 missions averaging about 20 minutes each. However, you can unlock multiplayer guns in these missions are they are extremely fun to play. The 1st is a basic defend your position against tanks and enemies using mines, javelins, m249s, etc. The 2nd is a change of pace, you're in a scout helicopter tasked to protect two ground teams from incoming forces which include tanks and infantry, one player fully pilots while the other fully guns.

Another is a sniper mission where you are tasked to rescue hostages from a very far distance with silenced guns. This mission really felt like a first person Splinter Cell, it was my favorite of the six.

Another is a mix up of everything basically. You start silently to save an informant, then you go guns blazing through Iraqi streets and you ride in Humvees.

My second favorite was the one where you have to reach the garage and your in a hotel. It's basically on the run and you destroy everything in your path.

The last one was probably the shortest. You are tasked with disarming a subway bomb and essentially you go in with gas masks and mow down guys.

The multiplayer is where Battlefield shines. No joke, this is probably the best multiplayer I have ever played in my life. I'm ruling out Battlefield 2, Counter-Strike, Team Fortress 2, Call of Duty, Halo, Killzone, Gears of War... anything. There are hundreds of unlockables which include weapons, camo (for your character), weapon addons, specializations, tank upgrades, jet upgrades, ground vehicle upgrades (besides tanks), AA gun upgrades, scout helicopter upgrades, and attack helicopter upgrades. Currently, there are 33 vehicles in the game which include all of those mentioned above. The campaign is given a 7, the coop is a 8, and the multiplayer is a 9.5.

Overall, the game is about an 8/10.

It's amazing, if you want to try a new FPS... if you love the Battlefield series... or if you want the best multiplayer experience for FPS, get this game. It's worth every penny.

Somebody needs to give this game a proper review. Basically every review from the pro's have been saying that same thing. That basically 2/3 of the game is of no use and that the multiplayer is being plagued by connection issues yet the game gets a rating of 90+? In what world does that make any sense?

Now the positives: 1-The graphics an sounds are ASTOUNDING. The large maps and various classes allow you to play according to your style. You dont have to be a twitch COD player to rack up numerous kills in this game. Further, as you level the game continues to stay extremely balanced. Having problems with prone snipers? Level up support and get mortars. Having problems with run and gun? Be a sniper and prone out along the edge of the map. Like to gun but also be a party favorite? Be assault and heal your friends! Get killed a lot? Get in a tank and reek havoc! Getting killed by tanks? Be an engineer and nuke them with mines and rockets! The balance is amazing. Dont let the COD fanboys/girls dissuade you. If you someone calls this game a Modern Warfare ripoff, that is a very incorrect statement. Firstly Battlefield 2 (online FPS set in a modern time with modern weaponry) came out 2 whole years before Call of Duty 4. Second the two franchises play entirely different, especially with BF3's Frostbite 2.0 engine. The new engine truly is a game changer. The single player campaign is really the weakest part of the game. With every progression in the plot you see more and more cliched elements, these elements are done relatively well but have been done before so often the entire single player feels borrowed. The story is passable but very unremarkable with terrorists threatening to start World War 3 (sound familiar Call of Duty fans?).

The real reason to play Battlefield 3 is the Multiplayer. It is very unique in how it plays with its structure and feel. Certain aspects still feel very "Battlefield" like the weapons and the vehicles still a joy to use, and the conquest mode is back once again and is untouched in it's implementation. Another returning mode is "Rush" and was the most fun I've had in a shooter when I first played in in Bad Company 2 and is even better now with the Frostbite 2.0 engine. The maps are very well done and although they are smaller on the console versions being confined to a smaller area with guardians that kill you when you stray outside the designated area (that doesn't keep you from trying sometimes to make a run through these "out of area" routes that can sometimes give you a great vantage point for playing sniper or simply flanking an enemy or vehicle that's been mowing your comrades down.) There is also the use of parachutes in Battlefield 3, a subtle feature that can and often does create some exciting situations, be it bailing out of a disabled aircraft, the recon class can drop radio spawn points that allow your squad mates to parachute into an area deep in enemy territory, or my personal favorite... BASE JUMPING. There are instances in Rush mode where as attackers you destroy the M-Comm stations and the defenders fall back to the next level, that next level is at the bottom of a cliff and as attackers your new spawn point is at the top of this cliff, pure genius and so fun to parachute down laying fire down or spot enemies and pickup some easy spot bonuses as you sail to Terra Firma. This all is great and if I could split this review into two I would give the single player a 7 and the multiplayer an emphatic 10. Now there have been reported problems with both the single and multiplayer but I have yet to encounter any real problems. Occasional high ping here and there can cause your to jump around on the map for a second I've found (running a constant ping on my network monitoring software revealed the lags were coinciding with a single high ping but not with every high ping) but this happens so little that it's barely worth mentioning. The ability to browse servers is another welcome addition and one you don't see on console online play often, but you can find a match very quickly and easily using the quick match option, especially if you're alone, most the time it takes less than 3 seconds to hit a server and start loading the map. All in all there's very little wrong with the multiplayer while it does so many things exceptionally well. If you have the money and can't decide which FPS franchise to buy this year, by all means you should buy both, and if you are limited on funds and have to pick save up a few bucks and give this one a rent before you blindly go out and sink your $60 bucks on CoD. This game may not appeal to all types but those that it does will have an experience unlike any other in the Online FPS genre in this current generation.

Great cinematic feel to the beginning of the flight mission, then a let down because you don't have control of the jet (just guns and missiles). THE BAD: The campaign is pretty lame as a whole. The story is garbage, basically a mirror image of the competition MW. You kill Russians and play as them in select missions; shameful rip off. Many of the missions are boring walk and shoots through uninspired environments. You spend one mission on the streets of Paris, but you are no where near any famous landmarks. Another you spend in a drab mall in the middle east.
The campaign is worse than medal of honor and bad company 2. Very disappointing single player, but if your a multiplayer exclusive you'll probably be happy.

NOTE: You are not about to read a review full of the word "faggot" and there is absolutely no bias in franchises on my behalf. It's also written with proper grammar and spelling.

It feels bad - having to rate the game the way that I am, but I absolutely feel like this is the way I have to do it. After months of waiting, telling all my Black Ops friends that Battlefield 3 was going to blow Call Of Duty out of the water and all that jazz - I feel disappointed and I'm happy that they didn't listen to me and throw down pre-orders before the reviews came out.

Campaign Mode: Now, I have seen a lot of the Battlefield defenders out here stating that the single player shouldn't even be taken into account. Frankly, that's false on so many levels I don't even know where to begin.. but a wise man once said that any game with the single player option, should have a leg to stand on based on that single player option alone. Aside from pretty graphics, the campaign here is stock-standard - there isn't really a reason to touch it. It's the same old thing we've seen over and over again, and it's the kind of thing that goes straight into the bargain bin these days. But I would never fully condemn something without offering an alternative - so how about next time we see a campaign that is based on providing a story-based tutorial on tactics that should be used in the multiplayer game? Let's not mince words here, Battlefield IS a multiplayer experience first and foremost - but if you're not going to try and string out a decent story and drag it out over a trilogy or something of the sort - have SOME point to the thing.

Multiplayer Mode: This is of course where the game was meant to shine, and for the most part it does - it works the way that it was designed... when the people do. Your experience is going to be severely based on who you are playing with, and this day and age it's just about as bad as ever. Let's be serious for a moment - if you think that your friends are always going to be around when you want to play - that's something that just isn't going to happen. I have around a dozen friends to play with and aside from the rare one day a week a good number of us getting together is a rarity.

BUT, when it does work and you all communicate things CAN be beautiful. I won't even take into consideration the servers going down so much on release - and knowing EA and my experiences with all of the Battlefield games, they will be going down quite a bit - I've had some pretty good experience. But than again I have also came into situations where my team-mate has just driven around in circles inside mission critical equipment. It's infuriating, it takes you out of the game and it happens more often than I'd like to admit.

The unlocks right now are the only thing keeping me going at a regular pace.. the terrain is beautiful and provides a good deal of cover but there is a lot of independent scenery that I am finding myself having to navigate around.. and poorly. I'm talking bits of small scenery on the ground that is slowing me down in ways that it really shouldn't.

All in all - for everything bad, I am finding something good. It's just I feel that the good is going to wear off and the bad is going to stay. If you seriously can't stand the way COD handles multiplayer (and you are educated enough to see what changes they've made this year) AND you can only afford to buy one of these.. go with Battlefield, it's not what it was hyped to be but it's what you've come to know and love.

There are times when I have to travel too far to engage with enemies only to get sniped and start the process all over again which becomes very frustrating. There is a lack of flow to the game play, in my opinion. And although I have grown a little tired of the noob tubes and powerful explosives in Call of Duty, Explosives in BF3 seem so weak and not very useful. It is hard to put my finger on but I never seem to get a connection with any of the guns and there is a certain "clunkiness" to the feel of the game flow. I have yet to get into a "zone" like I have with Modern Warfare or even Halo. I was always more of a Call of Duty fan, but I was very excited about this game, especially with all of the hype leading up to release. And I do appreciate this game for what it offers as opposed to Modern Warfare. But I think I'm more of a fan of the more fast paced, instant action of MW, even with the dated game engine and lack of realism. Expand

I have, historically, preferred the Call of Duty campaign and Zombies modes against Battlefield's, but I have enjoyed Battlefield's multiplayer a tremendous deal more than Call of Duty's.

Battlefield 3 is amazing. The multiplayer, as always, is as solid as a brick house. Absolutely nothing can come marginally close to its experience. The co-op is engaging, as it often requires players to actually work as a team to accomplish goals. What really surprised me, however, was the campaign. It was as awesome as any other mode on Battlefield. Battlefield 3 delivers a great story, spanning multiple environments and countless roles. The inclusion of multi-button sequences is welcomed, too. The only glitch I encountered was a problem with audio being looped (i.e. a conversation at the beginning of the mission kept replaying for me).

With that said, I scold both fanboys and haters to give the game a score based on their own biases. I personally find the Battlefield series more enjoyable, but that doesn't mean I will rule out Call of Duty. Grow up or go home.

The gameplay is top notch and feels fresh compared to other shooters, with the destruction and variety of vehicles there will always be something new happening. Not to mention the ton of unlocks which WILL keep you playing for months trying to unlock everyone. Battlefield 3 has the best audio ever in a game and will scare you multiple time when a rocket whizzes past your head or a wall is blown up while you next to it, the sound will never get old and will keep you focused. The Multiplayer is obviously where Battlefield 3 game time is spent and DICE have made sure the time is a LONG time with 9 maps and 5 playable modes there is a map and a mode for you. Conquest being the classic and favourite it sure is the most hectic with jets and helicopters flying by which will be taken out within minutes by a stinger, T90-A's and Humvee's rolling down the hill which will be taken out by a javelin. No vehicle is overpowered and there is always a way to succeed. That is what Battlefield as a series is about, CHOICE. There is always another way to do something, for example if you come across a M1 Abram you could run hoping it won't pummel you with it's weaponry or you could take it out with an RPG-7 or you could take it out with an AT-mine or you could take it out with a Javelin. That is only a few ways for just that situation, there is never just one way and every way will be your little Battlefield moment. The Singleplayer in my opinion is very good and is the best war game story but because it is not the reason to buy Battlefield 3 I won't go into it much but say there are some pretty epic moments. On to the bad part there are a few glitches but they are minor to the ones in the beta, which most are gone. There are a few server issues at the moment though they will most likely be sorted out soon. This is definitely the game to get this year, it will certainly keep you glued to your T.V. for quite a while. Make sure to have some tissues on standby. Expand

Its not about what the past games have been, its about what the current game is. And if they're shipping single player then folks who play it have every right to criticise it, if they don't like it. And imo, its far worse than any of the recent CoD / MW sp campaign's, which themselves were too linear and on-rails for my gaming tastes... .... I just hope that all these positive reviews don't cause any other publisher to look at BF3's reviews and think, "wow gamers really love that on-rails, linear Michael Bay lazy ass interactive movie **** Because I think most folks would agree, (even those that did only buy for MP and are enjoying the heck out of it) think its a complete waste of development time and money... Barely any of the reviews are taking into account the shoddy SP experience and that's a huge problem for the message it sends out to publishers, who're obviously going to churn more of that crap out because they know they can still get good review scores regardless. Graphics, think of Crysis 2, only I would give BF3 the edge due too the amount of things the graphics do, you will see tree's moving with the wind, blown over by explosions, and buildings crumbling. This game only suffers due to the hype it had, I was expecting a game that pushed consoles beyond what we had seen before. Obviously they didnt deliver on that, but they did deliver a game I believe pushed it to its limits. If your an avid COD player you probably wont like this as much as COD. Is it better than COD, that depends on the player. But if you want a war game that most closely simulates real war, I dont think you will find a game that comes closer to it on the current consoles. Multiplayer wise I would say it falls between COD games and previous BF games, so it offers something to both. Myself I loved COD, and my brother loves BF games. On this games the smaller maps I love he hates and the big ones, vice versa. I havent played the campaign, but I didnt buy this game for the 1 player, I brought it for the multiplayer and so far, I have been loving it. As I said earlier, this games main downfall was the hype, if not for that I think it would have gotten alot higher scores and adulation than it is now. For hardcore COD players, wait for MW2, for everyone ones else who wants a great mulitplayer game, or the most realistic, give Battlefield 3 a try, you wont regret it. P.S. Still looks beautiful and handles very well, mantling is very useful and all weapons feel weighty and have recoil so happy about that. At the time of writing i'm gonna say not a fan of night time missions of which there have been a few as its not doing the Frostbite 2 engine justice as when you see the crumbling city in daylight, thats what its all about.

Multiplayer is as hard as ever but vehicles are very cool and the fact that you can spawn in them is even better. Very intense but again players are very hard to spot due to level of realism so can become frustrating if your not that good (like me). Never the less awesome game.

Being that there are only 12 players per team, it can get ridiculous with 6 or more players waiting for a jet. However, I have found a way to resolve this problem; bring back air superiority from Battlefield 1943 and take out jets in the regular multiplayer. That way, anyone who wants to fly a jet can simply go into air superiority and fly the jet to their hearts content. While all the players who like classic ground war style can go into regular multiplayer and not have to deal with jet campers. Other than that, the game is fairly balanced. Expand

The single player campaign is just as good if not better than most CoD and other FPS single player campaigns. The co-op is fine, I've only played it a little bit but it's definitely challenging on the higher difficulties, the only downside is that it only allows for 2 player co-op where I feel it would've been better with 4. Without question though the main attraction and pretty much the only reason it should be judged is the multiplayer and it is amazing. Gun customization and unlocks are a lot deeper than any other Battlefield game, the maps are BEAUTIFUL...some of the best graphics I've seen in a console game (must install HD texture pack or the textures of boxes and stairs will be quite ugly)...and the game is just awesome...

The only downside to the multiplayer is that they had server issues the first couple of days which probably also accounts for the 50+ negative reviews since it's likely people with no patience complaining about the servers...they have been up and running on all cylinders since yesterday (Thursday Oct 27th) and no longer having connection issues...the game has already shipped 10 million in the first week, so that should say enough right there...

First the single player is short, but entertaining. Co-op is fun but... this game is about multiplayer, multiplayer is f'n amazing. And here is where it falls off the rails. Multiplayer is massive and highly detailed with huge maps, many vehicles and teamwork and real tactics rule the day. Yes a TDM mode is included but this is a watered down mode thrown in to attract CoD players. Everything you learned in CoD is wrong and will hurt you in this game. Single player and Co-op will teach you absolutely nothing in the way of skills that will apply in multiplayer. The online ranking system is FUBAR, you have noobs thrown into the meat grinder with uber players. And the number one reason I'm giving this game a low score is that it is completely unfriendly and uncaring to the casual/new player. I can't begin to explain how massive a single multiplayer maps is. And the game developers gave us all a huge "F You" by not including the ability to play private matches. This one simple feature would do wonders for allowing player to improve their game play, to learn the maps, to practice with planes and helicopter without screwing up online games for other players.

This is an amazing game. Graphic 100, best I have seen. Sound 100, simply amazing. Detailed well thought out multiplayer, Very fun Single player and Co-op. But with a multiplayer as detailed as this, with such a huge emphasis on teamwork and tactic it is extremely unfriendly to new/casual player that don't have 8 hours a day to devote to playing this game. If you are new to this style of play, you will be frustrated and I suggest you wait for the next MW installment.

If you say that MW3is the same game with updated graphics - in all areas of technology, you just build upon your already built tools. Nothing wrong on updating graphics. Also, to keep the identity of the game, nothing more natural than keeping things familiar - that is why the number 3 follows the name - it is a continuation of the story, with also some gameplay updates.

BF3 also just built upon they had done before, and they did not create something new: they updated their engine and called a different name, making people believe that it is an entire different engine. BFBC2 had destructible environment and you could drive vehicles, the latest MOH installment had the player control a chopper...

Therefore, BF3 is also a graphically updated game with some gameplay updates as well - like going prone, for example. And, again the number 3 after the name stands as a continuation of a previous game, hence nothing genuinely new here.

The difference between them is the gameplay, as a lot of comments already described them, making the player's preference just a matter of personal taste.

Although both games are focused on online gameplay, I would like the campaign to be at least decent - and not only 5 hours of gameplay, which also turned me down on MOH.

Finally, how different they really are? FPS consists in running around shooting enemies and getting shot at. Just like racing games and sports games are the same year after year, with updated graphics, improved gameplay and graphics. They all build upon a pre-existing title. At this point, it would be economically unviable to create an entirely new engine, to any type of game, from scratch.

Like a said before, I really like both franchises and I am getting both games, but some things need to be addressed.

Oh dear, i see all the desperate little cod babbies are out in force. Pathetic. Anyway, having played BF3 for a few hours i can honestly say the multiplayer is far superior to BC2. Great graphics, smooth controls and large maps, make this the online goty. Its true, the sp campaign isn't that great but who cares. BF has always been about the mp, and as every review has said, its fantastic.

The gameplay is the perfect thing to scratch your FPS itch, the thrill i get from playing a game of rush in the stunning environments isn't even close to being matched and is twice as good as Bad company 2, sequels to almost any game are looked down on because of the bar being set too high by fans and critics, take it from someone who has dipped in the pool of every type of game and franchise we have access to, you want a thrilling game? Don't let all of the bad reviews deter you from buying Battlefield 3 if you're an online shooter fan. This is by far the best online shooter I've ever played, and has a ton wonderful elements that have never been seen in a shooter. The level design is masterful, and the "twitch shooting" is perfect!. Don't pass on this game.

The graphics and Visuals are incredible, the shear size and ability to explore the various maps is amazing and I am enjoying this game, when I can get online! Now moving on to my various complaints:

    1. The campaign provided nothing new to a the first person shooter warfare genre, however I played it and enjoyed myself for a few hours.
    2. The sever connectivity issues were never resolved in the BETA like they should have been.
    3. There is an enormous slue of glitches and hick ups in campaign and online (freezing, never ending loading screens, holes in maps, cinematic to gameplay triggers not going off (and vice a versa)). A complete lack of two player (split screen) gameplay.
    4. Midnight purchasers were not rewarded in any way what so ever by a greeting in the form of a 1.5 Gb download as soon as they got home.
    5. Next is both EA's and DICE's complete disregard for their fanbase. No updates on their forums at all besides, "we're aware of the issue." or, "maintenance is taking longer than expected." We have heard not one apology, not one condolence. All EA or DICE have publicly stated is that their game is the best and it's a COD killer. Sounds like they have become more concerned with beating CoD and less concerned with a quality product that will impress their fanbase.

For the most part though, the campaign is easily forgettable, and does little to emotionally involve you with your characters; you'll feel like you're controlling faceless automatons. Co-op, again, is split between bland action and thrilling, heart-in-mouth gameplay. The helicopter escort mission in particular can be brilliant fun with a good friend, while more corridor roaming action is most certainly not welcome, which is a shame, as that is what most of the missions consist of.

Multiplayer is another beast entirely. Diving out of the way, missing 30 mil bullets by centimeters, charging into a room and gunning down an entirely squad, parachuting in for a quiet knife kill... Battlefield 3's online creates moments effortlessly. The vehicles are integrated seamlessly into gameplay, and complement the infantry based action that makes up the majority of firefights perfectly. The maps are well-designed, with MCOM stations and flags placed in locations that are sure to result in fast paced combat. The classes are well balanced also, each thriving in a key area, but remaining versatile enough so that a team made up predominantly of a certain class is unlikely to be disadvantaged.

A thoroughly enjoyable game, spoiled by an "average" campaign, but redeemed with one of the most compelling multiplayer modes of the last few years. 8/10.

The story is a complete mesh of the last 3 COD games. Regardless of this there are still some epic moments such as the sniper mission which I have been waiting a long time for something this detailed. There is a ton of LAG/Frame rate issues though. And whats with the 1.5GB update to get your graphics up to speed? The Code to play online is also a joke and provided much frustration on my 360. Top that off with week user interface that feels like a PC game. Then the Server went down for a brief period, so I hopped over to the SEPERATE DISK campaign and it starts repeating the opening scene on a loop of about 10 seconds? Whats that all about. The game just feels rushed. Far too many little issues considering they put 100 Million into advertising. Half that money shouldve stayed in game development. My score wouldve been a 9 if they issues had been resolved before launch. Im just disappointed in DICE for not smoothing it out more. It is such a solid platform, especially after a BETA. These issues should have been fixed. Well worth buying if you want to kill a week before MW3. Expand

Squad connection issues, visual hiccups, falling through the game's geography, lag, lag, and more lag and sadly some of those issues are still around. Attempting to join a game as a squad is almost impossible. Someone gets dropped back to the menus, others get in but are put on opposite teams, or we all get in a game but they are completely different games. Really frustrating and an issue that was in the beta that did not get remedied. A main ingredient that makes this game great is working as a team and how are we to work as a team if we can't all be on the same one? Silly and sloppy DICE. Lag issues are still here and are still a negative but I'm a little more understanding and lenient about this. I remember in the first month of Bad Company 2 that the game was almost not playable because of horrible connection issues. Add that with me knowing that it's a rarity that a game's online experience is flawless in the first week of its launch and I'm not too stressed out about it. The lag will get fixed. Eventually. But even though I'm unhappy with some of the technical issues this game is pretty great. The multiplayer still has all the fun and great "oh my god moments" that make this franchise a treat to play. Yes. You can go prone that can be annoying especially for those who played BC2 and not used to it, but I've learned to embrace it. Little is better than being a support class, going prone, propping up my light machine gun, and putting down deadly suppressive fire as my teammates and I cap off a flag. Yes. The prone ability and lack of an informative kill cam does give snipers a leg up, but this is when communication between squad mates and spotting is key. The maps out of the box are diverse and fun. There's been some who said the maps are too big but DICE has already made them smaller to fit the 24 player console cap and I think they did a nice job making sure there's enough room to roam but compact enough to still be able to find the action. The other nice touches like being visually affected by suppressive fire, being able to disable vehicles, being able to get knifed only in the back, how the lighting system affects the gameplay, and the extensive reward system, are just some of the things that I found to be great additions. The single player is a so-so story told through flashbacks. These memories allow players to experience huge explosions and earthquakes but then will ask you to follow a pilot around and sit in a jet doing nothing but looking at plane flaps. An odd mix of excitement and boredom and something that could use a little Sweet Water or Haggard to make it worth my while. But, one should be getting this title for the multiplayer and not the single player so I'm okay. Luckily, this title can only get better and I'm excited to see DICE make the required fixes and give it that layer of polish it should have had in the first place. Sure. One could wait to buy this game to avoid the growing pains but one would miss out. The thrill and excitement of the online gameplay is well worth any glitch induced headaches. Expand

Multiplayer is where the design flaws hurt the most. The maps are absolutely huge which would be great if there were more than 24 players per game. That is not a dice flaw but what is a dice flaw is that proning exists. There is no reason for proning in this game, it basically makes it impossible to find anyone in team deathmatch and you almost always get killed by some guy proning hidden away. Next there is absolutely to ways to deal with a camper in this game. The explosives in this game are unrealistically weak so you basically just have to try to run into where they are camping and use fast reflexes to kill them....but this never works. So team deathmatch is not a viable option in this game. Conquest is far too big of a game for 24 players so it is very slow paced and vehicles are useless. Which leads me to another point: they don't have jet/heli tutorials in the game. Rush is the only reasonalbe mode to play but it is always better to be on the defending team than the opposing as it is also ridden with campers. A lot of people will try to justify these annoyances by claiming that it is realistic.....the campaign says otherwise. Expand

Some frustration aside with getting online Tuesday, I decided not to let this hamper my opinion of the game. The criticisms for this game are valid, its not as epic or nice looking as the PC version, and the single player is even more of a wash now that its on the second disc, but it is still a competent game on the 360.

The lighting, textures, and feel of guns are all very well placed. People want to know why they're getting killed? It's because you're out in the open, treating it like you're on a paintball field in Modern Warfare. The only way we win matches is by going slow, using teamwork, and being practical. I don't want to get into the argument about which game is better, Activision has always done an excellent job of the run and gun shooter, but its really apples and oranges between that and Battlefield. I'm sure both games will do well in the market, and there should be options for shooters.

When its not connecting right, this game be frustrating, but that always gets better with time. Bad Company 2 is what got me back into this franchise, and based off of Tuesday nights game with my group, we're going to get a lot of shelf life out of it, but please, don't be haters because you play this game by yourself. If you play CoD, then by all means go play it and enjoy. This game at its core is well made, the levels are balanced and vary in setting, and make it so you can create great memories for yourself, not just relying on scripted events. Vehicles once again add new tactical perspectives, and the rebalancing of classes make it easy to find your niche. The unlocking system is a bit excessive, breaking down into subcategories of unlocks, but I already have the gun I want for the class I want after one night. I hope this information has been helpful.

I loved playing the next day until about three hours, when the server crashed yet again. I will absolutely love this game once the server issues are resolved(hopefully). there were a few bugs. The good- well there really is too much to list but i will try to sum it up - The game is visually stunning. I really mean stunning, to the point of where you have to play it to believe it. The online multiplayer is fantastic - there are many of the same modes, but they are done well. The controls(a big issue i had with BF:bc2) are smooth and natural. When you play it for the first time, it is very easy to adjust to the preset control scheme. The classes are standard Battlefield, but they are rehashed and a bit more balanced than BF:bc2. The game is challenging - like every Battlefield I have played before - which made it more rewarding to get my first 20-0 game. The vehicle collection on multiplayer is impressive, and the vehicles are more real to life with roll, yaw and pitch style controls. The campaign is good, but it seems to be a bit linear compared to other Battlefield games. I will be honest, this game would get a 10 from me, however the server issues for xbox have to be addressed. Speaking of vehicles, the jets and helicopters have especially amazing flight models and can do some serious damage. Luckily though, from about the 10 hours I've played it seems that the game is incredibly well balanced and rock-paper-scissors mentality is very prevalent. At least i know MW3 will be good. There hasnt been a terrible COD game.. ever. And i've played it since the beginning. Two words describe this game. Friggin BORING! Nothing wowed me, nothing got me to the edge of my seat. I didn't have those "holy sh--! moments like COD has. The jet flying absolutely bored me to death.,, the graphics aren't as good as i thought they would be. Some maps they are spot on, but some other maps, it looks like your playing a regular xbox title. The enemies look stupid and dull, no detail, no intelligence. I can't even see enemies far away but apparently they see me and start shooting just me. Why did it feel like i was the only one fighting in my squad? Cut scenes are boring and make no sense. The guns have no detail in them(they all looked the same to me, only with different sights and cross heirs) The explosions are real lame. It seemed like in single player, BF3 tried to hard to smite COD by copying them. I recall blatant attempts in single player to try to mimic some of the COD style of gameplay. Multiplayer didnt do it for me either. I figured, BF3's multiplayer must be better.. and it just wasn't. Nothing wowed me about that either. I'm not waiting for EA to fix the glitches and the server. They shouldn't have rushed it then. I wish they delayed it and worked on these things. I loved the BF franchise and this game made me miserable. I've never given COD a perfect ten, because even COD has a few things they could've done better with every game. But even saying that, COD still will be king of the war-shooters, and i'm sorry to say BF will still be second best. Sorry BF3 fans. I just couldnt put up with this shooter atrocity any longer. Anyhoo, while I think the graphics, environmental destruction and map size are impressive, honestly the framerate simply torpedos the whole thing. Movements are extremely herky-jerky because of it making shooting targets, especially those at range, far more difficult than it should be. Quite frankly, I have no idea why this doesn't bother EVERYONE. MW2 had a ton of problems but the ability to simply track a moving target smoothly and accurately was not one of them. Also, because of this, it makes seeing small movements at a distance almost impossible which is kinda important considering the sheer size of the maps. Also, there is a lack of feel with the gunplay... I don't feel connected to the weapons at all. It's sort of same way Black Ops failed but to a far larger degree. I really wanted to like this game and there are certain aspects I do like such as the teamwork needed to succeed but in the end, it's a hollow experience that falls short. Now I'm left crossing my fingers in hope that MW3 won't be the same kind of "run around in a circle shooting each other in the ass" quasi-Halo crapfest that Black Ops was.

Ignore the low scores that you see below 4 or 5, these reviews are created by COD trolls that want to see Battlefield fail, or couldn't pull off one-hit 360 no-scope kills, or simply do not have the patience or to learn how to play (possibly due to an underdeveloped cerebral cortex). I will get this out of the way first: this game is NOT Call of Duty. You may somehow believe that it looks like COD, but this game is definitely in it's own league. This game does NOT have perks or kill streaks that make you an unstoppable force on the Battlefield, sorry but the developer DICE doesn't believe in one man armies. The game is also more realistic than COD. When sniping, you can't just bunny hop and snipe people and expect to get a headshot, because it's near impossible in real-life with a 10-pound sniper rifle. Plus when sniping, you are going to have to account for something called gravity, the bullets aren't lasers, they are projectiles that are affected by gravity once the bullet exits the barrel, so aim high for that headshot, because it isn't the game's fault that you can't aim.

The multiplayer is where the game is worth it's cost, and why most people buy Battlefield. The maps are big, open, and allow different routes to each objective. Destruction makes the game dynamic and generally a round never plays the same way twice. The vehicles bring an element of changing the outcome of battle by supporting your teammates with superior firepower or moving them into flanking positions. The classes have their own niches that can bring defeat or victory to your team depending on their use. Assault can heal or revive teammates to keep them in the fight. Support supplies ammunition to teammates, and can create havoc with C4 or mortars. Engineers repair friendly vehicles and can cause harm to enemy ground vehicles or aircraft. Recon scouts for opponents, snipes, or hides like a little girl due to some players' style. The game does have a learning curve that teaches you to work in a team, flank your opponents, use vehicles to turn the tide of war, and importantly USE COVER in order to survive. Destruction will destroy your cover so it would be wise to keep moving when an enemy sees you in order to keep on fighting. Battlefield is for people who will work together. You are not Rambo. You will not win battles single-handed-ly against good teams. You will need teammates in order to coordinate attacks and expose your opponents' weaknesses. If you can't work with other people, please don't get the game and ruin other peoples' experience by being a worthless teammate and a waste of a server slot. It will save you some hate mail. If you work with others, the gameplay value increases exponentially because of the fun you have working and helping teammates work for victory. Teamwork is a corner-stone of Battlefield.

The graphics are phenomenal, make room on your 360 hard drive in order to download the HD texture pack, it makes the game beautiful.

For those that can't connect or get server disconnects, it's just something that happens to DICE with every release. But DICE sticks to it to make sure the game functions and will fix the servers as quickly as possible. Remember that COD Black Ops was almost unplayable on day one, so COD isn't better than BF in this case.

Plus DICE will not leave players in the cold with a lack of patches. They will bust their tails to balance weapons, stop exploits, fix bugs, and other problems. They have enough experience to know how to patch their own game quickly. TL;DR
-This game is not COD, it is Battlefield. Comparing the two is like comparing pee-wee football (COD) to College Football (Battlefield).

-Ignore the low scores from COD trolls who can't adapt to a more realistic, unforgiving game

-Multiplayer is where the game is at. Destruction, open maps, and vehicles make no two rounds of gameplay the same. This game is very fun to those who like to undertake challenges.

-The game requires a learning curve in order to be skillful. It will be tough at first, but once you learn the roles of the classes and vehicles, you can become a much better player.

-Teamwork is required to win. Lone wolves will fail against good teams. -Install the HD texture pack for a better visual experience

I played the multiplayer Beta and was unimpressed by the hit-and-miss servers, the overly bright sunlight and "detached" feel to the experience. It looks like they fixed the brightness.... and little else. The multiplayer isn't a battle simulation or a full-on FPS, it is a combination of both, unfortunately not in a good way. There are glitches when using vehicles and inside buildings.
Co-op campaign - I played this with a friend. You feel isolated, as though you are the only two soldiers in the world fighting an oncoming army whilst everybody watches.
Single player campaign - The graphics range from excellent high-quality HD to cartoony, blocky and basic. To aid realism you have to peer through scratched glass and deal with 'lens flare'. Whilst this does add to the realistic feeling it ultimately makes for a frustrating game where your vision is obscured a lot of the time and you miss out on the action and enjoyment. In summary, I would say the game looks a little rushed (to beat the release of COD - MW3?). Graphics in places are really not up to the current standard for a top-of-the-range modern FPS. Having said that, it is better than some and would have looked better stacked against games from 3 years ago. I wish I had waited until January and picked up a cheap copy.

The singleplayer is not that great and it is comparable to COD in aspects of linearity and blockbuster type action and yet I'd say superior writing and atmosphere. CO-OP is a bit better with 6 missions that are pretty fun with a friend.

What it shines with is multiplayer. You just don't find a shooter with team orientated framework built into its design anymore with the last one I remember being Team Fortress 2, although it's not that heavy. It's balanced and skillful with deep weapon progression and long term investments in unlocking new gear and ranks. Vehicles are an important force and staple on the field, but not instant death machines and they also require some work to use properly. You can be 4 different classes and all of them have helpful items for your team and you play in squads and feel part of a unit instead of people in a map killing each other.

I love Battlefield and the unique experiences it offers in a sea of modern shooting games. You just won't find anything else like it unless you like simulators like ARMA.

I can't think of a way to finish this, but I really recommend picking it up.

The campaign is painful, seems like COD stories changed up. I don't like COD and hate to see this trying to follow it. Cheap deaths are constant in the campaign, and horrible auto save points. Boring cut scenes are common as well as sequences where you have little control over what happens but need to press buttons to execute an action.

Where are all these enemies, that weren't there before, coming from? The feel of the trigger isn't as convincing as previously. The dialog is cheesy and repetative. In BCB2 I felt like I was the 5th member of that squad, not an unfamiliar newcomer. The jet and tank missions were equally ridiculous. I think I blew up 5 tanks in as many seconds. Where did all the rave come from? Who previewed this game? I think DICE dropped the ball here by leaning on hype during the beta phase and not sticking to the recipe. Well, Battlefield 3 for Xbox360 IS for us. It's like pick-up ball that's just competitive enough without being too serious for itself.
As a consumer of average video game consumption, i've shopped through the most oft-recommended/advertised multiplayer shooter series on Xbox360: Gears of War, Halo, and Call of Duty. All were fun, but with major drawbacks. Gears had mech-like sluggish characters. Halo was like one long frenetic ninja duel. And Call of Duty had poor graphics and an unbearable amount of eerily over-committed...students of the game. Battlefield 3 hits the sweet spot: just realistic enough that your actions actually have an impact despite lacking some gaming trick, yet maintaining a good pace throughout. Most importantly, Battlefield 3's multiplayer makes, well, playing with multiple players fun. There's always someone to work in teams with. Your actions make a meaningful contribution to the team even if you're not individually a skilled killer. Other players are encouraging and, if you feel disheartened from dying many times, there is always someone on your team to deploy next to and follow their lead. There are fewer trash-talking cowards hiding behind their screen names here because--i'm guessing--they generally don't have the patience for a team effort. Personally, i believe you will enjoy this game: actually "enjoy", not just "appreciate". That is the best praise i have for a video game, and the only merit a video game truly earns to begin with.
NOTE: I have only played the online mutiplayer, so i can only speak in that regard.

Half the time it would just sit there and freeze. After several minutes the only way out was to reset xbox or sign out my profile to make the game exit out to main menu. I experienced a lot of lag as well. I will say I am glad that they added game chat as an option - instead of being able to only chat with your squad, big improvement. Now if we could just get people to actually talk and try to work as a team... but that's not the game's fault. Now on to game play. I am very disappointed by the planes. No airspeed or altitude read out. I am not sure if my plane has been glitching or stalling. I have tried to stall at low speeds just flying level and the plane will not stall out. But I have not been able to figure out if there is a ceiling you stall out at or not. When I have flown high in the A-10 it seems to stall at higher altitude, but the plane won't fall. It just keeps flying up and straight not responding to any controls until I fly OOB and get killed (bad luck). Other than that, the game is almost the same as BF2BC. Some new stuff, but nothing that makes me say wow.

Overall I feel like it was a waste of money to buy this game and I will definitely be using it for trade in credit toward MW3.

There is nothing like sneaking up on a tank on foot and taking it out with C4 or your rocket launcher while it does its best to destroy the building you're lurking in. The tense moments when I thread a Hummer through enemy lines with full squad aboard and counting on me while the world explodes around us are fantastic. Though I know DICE has a good track record for fixing problems with their games, I also know it usually takes them a while to do it, usually about when interest in it begins to wane because of the problems they took too long to fix. I didn't expect any great upgrade to the graphics from the beta, as there is only so much computing power in an XBOX 360, so I have no real complaint about them. They look pretty decent, better than Black Ops, in my opinion but there are some issues with framerate bogging down at times in intensive areas.

I would certainly not recommend this game if you are looking for a thoroughly engrossing and long campaign mode, as you will not find it here. The voice acting and visuals are quite stunning, but the story is contrived and rather short. I think it took me about 4 hours on a medium difficulty setting. But really, who buys this kind of game for the campaign mode anyway.

Multiplayer ...I don't want to use the word 'shines' but it is still quite engaging and fun. I find myself enjoying it more than I have most Call of Duty games at first, at any rate. The maps are well-designed, massive and quite nice to look at. I have not run into many technical issues. I have had little problems connecting to games, and I have only been disconnected once in several hours of play. The problem with the console version is this: It should feel like a battlefield. It doesn't. The limited server size makes it feel much closer to other FPS's. I am sure the PC version is amazing with 32 people on your team, trying to do stuff. But that is the biggest reason it falls short, in my opinion. It should feel like a full-scale war on these massive maps, but it just doesn't. It feels more like an objective based COD match than it should.

Overall, I feel it is an enjoyable experience and I enjoy playing it. I hope to one day find a squad that communicates and actually tries to accomplish something, but I won't hold my breath right now, heh. As a note, the reason I compare certain aspects to COD is not because I am a fan of the COD series. I use it as a reference as that is BF3's closest competition. There is my opinion of the game, take it for what it's worth to you, it is just an opinion.

The game hasn't really met my expectations but it is still an amazing first-person shooter. Most shooters I would gravitate towards the single player first and then hop onto the multiplayer. But Battlefield 3's single player is so bad that I would recommend not even playing it. Boring story, weak dialogue, bad voice acting and uninteresting moments. However, the multiplayer in this game is so good that it alone is worth picking the game up for it. It gets really hectic in the open fields, teamwork is really encouraged, there's tons of things to unlock and all of the classes are fun to play. I also like the co-op mode in this game. What sucks is that there's only 6 missions and they're over pretty quick. Overall, it isn't a innovative first-person shooter but it's probably one of the best this generation. Expand

try this with the graphics upgrade on disk 2. Just when I thought Crysis 2 gave the best graphics yet, comes BF3. I rate it a ten with some minor complaints but firstoff. Some bafoon mustove told someone higher up, "herr ger, i hurd that they go to some site for game reviews hrurrr. Please, compare the way people write a real review by looking at another game. This people who rate 0's are shams. Hiding behind their marketed game, cod. Look, no one would willingly fight to say that an unrealesed game is SO much better than one that is already out. I would have willingly said a month ago, i have no idea if battlefield will finally, no matter what, be better than MW3. They are irrational VIRAL MARKETERS, Google it KIDS!

But any-who, the flashlights piss me off but the crazy explosions make up for it. Good work so far dice. Just don't **** it up like the bata.

1 of if not the best multiplayer experience on the Xbox. single player is good but lacking in depth. I would recommend to the multiplayer harden people out there, this is the experience for you. if you're looking for a single player experience there are better games out there.

This is next gen - now. Amazing amazing AMAZING!!! Avoid reading the COD trolls on here. You know this game rocks!! It wouldn't get 93 from critics if it wasn't the real deal. The graphics are so real, and the immersive gamplay is unparallelled. Buy this sucker now and start enjoying this unbelievable experience.

I got BF3 at the midnight release, and have since beat the single player, half the co-op missions, and spent about 5 hours in Multiplayer. As others have pointed out, the Single Player is dull. It's not bad, but it's definitely forgettable. The story did not hold me whatsoever, and is basically a rehash of all the other games nowadays. "Blah Blah Blah, terrorist threat, Blah Blah Blah," You get the idea. If you're a gamer who buys games for the Single Player experience, then do not buy BF3.

The Multiplayer, however, is some of the best I've ever played. There are some extremely minor issues with it, but they are very easy to overlook. The occasional texture pop and, well, Issues with EAs crappy servers don't detract from the awesomeness that is BF3 Multiplayer. The maps are very well done, the gametypes are a bit limited, but there is definitely some variety. Most of all its just a blast. Lots of Unlocks, lots of destruction, lots of fun. I give BF3 an 8 out of 10. If you're a gamer interested in the best team based gameplay currently on the XBOX 360 market, then I encourage you to go for it and pick this one up.

The only bad part about it so far is the boring interrogations that populate between levels and the amount of bugs I run into. I the 2 hours I have played campaign I ran into about a dozen bugs. Most of which were enemies crouch or prone through cover or light sources stay lit after being shot, to major things like offset lighting and texture problems. The multiplayer I have no problem with seeing as the online servers are shut down and I wasn't able to play. Come on DICE if Battlefield Bad Company 2 was so popular that you had to have more servers wouldn't you think that Battlefield 3 might be more popular? Anyways From what i've seen so far is a great game populated with bugs and glitches that will probably be fixed in the next patch. Can't wait to play it some more. 8/10 Expand

Great game, best FPS i've ever played to be honest (i'm not that bigger FPS fan usually, but Battlefield series is my exception), graphics are sick, sound is EXCELLENT and it's fun as all buggery online, recommend to everyone who likes great console shooters.

Hit or miss, the multiplayer is great but laggy on day 1 however that may change and improve. The maps are fun overall however some feel like continuations of others (Siene crossing looks like part of operation metro). If you're looking for a great single player campaign you're out of luck, rent BF3 or pick it up in the bargain bin. If you're looking for the best online multiplayer action then BF3 is your game hands down.

While Battlefield 3 was aiming to be the biggest name this holiday season, and while it has made strides towards knocking off Modern Warfare 3, it misses the mark. That's not to say it is a bad game, it's a very good one, but the polish and excitement that is found on the Call of Duty series feels missing here. Still, there are much worse games you could end up with this holiday season, and the competition between the two series should heat up significantly in the next few years.

This experience alone sums up what Battlefield 3 is about. It isn't a John Rambo run and gun shooter and it shouldn't really be compared to MW3 in terms of how you play it. For players to truly understand the Battlefield experience you need to embrace the teamwork by joining a squad and calling out your spotted enemies, as after all, sometimes you also need your back covered too.
