Graphics alone should merit this game a high score... add the additional different modes and you have a very fun game that will keep you hooked. There are some glitches here and there but for a game this size and built on a new engine.. its to be expected and the best part is that it will be fixable through patches.

Campaign is ok, the MP is the best on the market, I have played every call of duty game to date, but comparing BF3 to COD is like comparing a Ferarri to a Chevette, its just a better all around game and is the best looking shooter on the 360, also the controls have been improved alot from the earlier BF games, I say Bravo to Dice, good job.

I'm sorrbut I won't settle for the same multiplayer experience annually with only subtle changes. Sound design is amongst the best in video games, seriously listen to a wall collapse near you, it's unreal. Especially when boosted by a pair of nice headphones. The game is absolutely beautiful, and the high res pack solves all graphical problems I had with the beta. It's just flat out crisper and the player models and environments look richer with detail. The campaign is more in depth and exciting than any other game Ive played in a while,it easily rivals modern warfare, you get that personal attachment to the protagonist while he tells a vivid story., The multi-player is amazing, the pure attention to detail is just outstanding, things from reloading to leaping over objects to the sun getting in your eyes when you move into the wrong angle, people that complain about the multiplayer are complaining not because of the game, but because of EA's lack of server care which has always been a problem, not to mention the game has been out for no more than 3 days. The gameplay is the perfect thing to scratch your FPS itch, the thrill i get from playing a game of rush in the stunning environments isn't even close to being matched and is twice as good as Bad company 2, sequels to almost any game are looked down on because of the bar being set too high by fans and critics, take it from someone who has dipped in the pool of every type of game and franchise we have access to, you want a thrilling game? Its an amazing feeling to be defending an MCOM and feel a huge explosion and turn around to see the building you are in now has a huge hole in the wall. It is so immersive. The campaign is akin to a blockbuster movie more so than a huge adventure, but thats how fps games are in todays industry. Anyone saying this experience is less than an 8 needs to stop basing their review on how well they play online and start basing it on the game itself. This is an attempt to be objective, especially to the more sophisticated gamer who's maybe a litle older and has higher expectations (sorry I couldn't think of a way to make that not sound patronising). Personally I'm forever searching for a multi-faceted experience, one which is rich and engaging. The highlights of the last couple of years have been Skyrim and Red Dead Redemption for me. Never got into a multiplayer for more than an hour before, although I should maybe have given them more time. The single player is as bad as the reviews state. It feels poorly executed, enemies pile into scenarios in an unconvincing way, the engine doesn't suit it and it just feels wrong. That, along with the cheap deaths, makes it frankly irritating.
Having being hyped by friends about the multiplayer, young and old, with different expectations, that fact that a cross section of people I knew were raving about this piqued my interest. The multiplayer is amazing. The openness of some maps, close quarters of others, animation, control feel and every other aspect is spot on. Sometimes, when concentrating on individual aspects, reviews can miss the overall vibe and feel of a game, the most improtant aspect. This one is superb, it nails it and drags you right in. I'm forever chasing the next attachment or ribbon, examining tactics, shouting at the TV, punching the air. As someone who thought I was a single player only, tempted to cancel my xbox live gold, this has fully converted me. The sheer depth and addtive quality is really immersive. Hope this helps. Has to be a 9 as a solid SP would have surely been possible - but 10 for the only aspect most will touch....

I also like the fact that there aren't all the silly COD perks that basically are used to save you're butt if you're not a good player in general. Not having cold blooded and stuff like that was uncomfortable at first but once you get used to the game it's brilliant and a far better gaming experience that any fps I've played before. It's refreshing to see people really trying to stick to the objective and not worrying too much about k/d ratio. Rush is also a great game mode.

My real rating is 8.5, but can't so rounded it up. It would be a 9 but the re-spawn system is a little annoying, and helicopter third person view is annoying too. Recon also seems to be an underpowered class. A bit disappointed that the critics review give it less than MW2.5 but ultimately I'm pleased I didn't waste money on that (or BLOPS) and can enjoy BF3.

Amazing destruction and team work. The only reason i didnt give this a 10 was because of the team deatchmatch mode, idk if the spawn's are just messed up or it was supposed to be like that, because the team deatchmatch feels like cod, people spawn everywhere, forcing you to keep on moving and use cheap tactics to kill people. If you want to survive you have to use bs like rpg's. I am forced to pull out my pistol often in tdm because of not having enough time to reload and have also had to dropshot quite a lot. I have bought this game to play tactically, but lets just say I dont want to play any other mode and have to play tdm why do I have to play it like cod? I think a good way to solve this problem would be to have 2 deployment areas like in other modes, that would fix the problems. Another problem I have is that certain guns are extremely overpowered and have no recoil (famas and F-2000). Maybe they made tdm like this to attract cod fans idk. Another thing I noticed is that why is there no option to quit to multiplayer menu in pre game lobbies? What multiplayer game does not have this option? This is fine for pc when you can just alt tab, but on consoles you either are forced to wait till the match starts or you have quit to dashboard, why could they not have implemented this basic feature that every multiplayer game has? Did they forget about it or something? Also why cant they just patch it now? They seem to release massive patches but cant they just code something to leave? Amazing game but I hope DICE have learned some lessons from this game which they can use to make the next game better. Expand

But seeing the trailers to bf3, I thought I would give it a try and see if it could relight the flame, and boy did it ever! Graphics: sublime. Sound: probably the most realistic I have ever heard in a game. Gameplay: Tough for the uninitiated, but very satisfying. Being rusty with FPS games, I usually have a negative score at the end of the round and die a lot. But here's the thing: I don't care because I'm still having fun. The fact that running and gunning is suicidal in this game makes you play smarter and basically feel more like an actual soldier. I only have two complaints: Firstly, the servers are often broken and (at least for me) it is not uncommon for the game to crash when the level changes. Secondly, in big games it can be really tough to get a vehicle, particularly jets/helicopters. This means that for the average pub player it is very hard to have opportunities to practice and improve your skills in flying. I still haven't been able to kill anything with a jet, especially since you only have bullets to fire until you earn better weaponry. There really should be a sandbox map where one can just fly around for practice.... if this actually exists, can someone direct me to it! :P

There is nothing wrong with the campaign other than its short length, but honestly what else is to be expected from an FPS these days. And who buys a game like this for it's campaign anyway? If you want a challenge though, just play it in hard - it will take you about double the time to finish it.

However, don't buy BF3 for the campaign. If you buy it, get it for the multiplayer. It is one of the best online multiplayer experiences I've ever had. Camping for the whole game is hard. Vehicles are amazing. Unlocking weapon attachments is fun. Of course, there are the weapons themselves. There are four classes; Assault, Engineer, Support, and Recon. Each class has exclusive weapons and gadgets. For example, only the Recon class has sniper riffles and the ability to place mobile spawn points, but the Engineer class is the only class with the ability to deploy rocket launchers and place land mines. As you level up each individual class, you unlock weapons and gadgets for that class. For example, at level 2 for the Support class you gain access to C4. Along with each class, you level up your rank. Leveling up your ranks takes time, but the rewards are worth it. With each rank, you gain a new dog tag. You also get rank-specific rewards like PDWs and camo. Now, I'll talk briefly about the vehicles. They all handle amazing, whether it's a tank or a jet or an attack helicopter. All can carry more than one person, and they can be leveled up like classes. All in all, if you're looking for a fun war experience, BF3 is the game for you. Expand

Great game people, stop comparing it to CoD and just judge it individually. They may both be military shooters but they are different in many ways. Maybe Activision could take a leaf out of EA's books and update it's engine.

By that i mean, they start have you do impossible stuff, stuff that could never happen in real life, and well this really detracts from the Battlefield style. It isn't very long at all and in my opinion isn't to good at all. it has some good aspects like the Fighter mission and the tank mission, but it doesn't give anything new or aww inspiring.

    Multiplayer-
Now onto the good stuff, the reason we Battlefield Fanboys" bought the game....Multiplayer.
The multiplayer in Battlefield 3 brings brings a lot of stuff from Battlefield 2 and BF:BC2 and brings them together. Honestly in my opinion they tried to hard to make this game a COD killer instead of just doing what they do best, again as they did in the campaign, they just made the game a bit to "modern warfare ish" the game play seems a bit smoother than BFBC2 but at the same time they took away from the "everything is destructible" that BFBC2 had. In BFBC2 by the end of a match, the entire map could be destroyed. while here in BF3 in the more urban maps, most of the buildings cant be destroyed, you can destroy walls and parts of the buildings but not the entire building. Vehicular warfare- all of the vehicles work well in this game, They brought back the jets which are very cool to fly, and the choppers have new stuff to use.
instead of blowing up right away now, most vehicles will actually be disabled first then blow up, by this i mean you can disable a tank and it cannot move, but the turret will still be active and can still shoot, or you can take out one of the 2 engines on jets and choppers, which is a very cool added aspect to the game To Sum it up, this game is very good, but could have been so much more.
I mean they did a fine job with this game, but they just Modern Warfared the game a bit to much, and the Maps just don't feel right compared to BFBC2
I would recommend this game to anyone, but if you haven't checked Battlefield Bad Company 2 yet, i would say go for that first because it is a much better game

Overall, this a fairly high quality game, but there are a couple reasons it's not a 10.

Second, the gameplay and maps are not designed for so few players. 24 works for some maps, but many feel vast and empty without the full 64 players that they enjoy on the PC. If they're going to release the game on consoles without upping the player number, then the maps need to be changed.

Other than that, it's a phenomenal game. It's a much slower pace and larger scale than Call of Duty, but these are good things if you prefer executing more refined strategies and tactics with your team. The gameplay is far more diverse, both because the maps allow full use of all the classes (snipers actually can behave like snipers), and because the scope and design of the maps encourages shifting tactics.

That changed when I went to a friend's house and saw this game being played. If you played the beta, then let me say the actual game is completely different. The beta was probably a poor marketing decision in my opinion. Anyhow, after playing other games online, my confidence in the direction that game development in general is taking had started to waver. In general rather than getting bigger and better, they were being dumbed down, to smaller and lamer. No one was ever pushing the envelope. Year after year the same games were being released that completely lacked innovation - from new installments of COD to Halo. Don't get me wrong the first Halo game was great, but then I guess they decided to rest on their laurels, something that the COD franchise has decided is a career move. While PC gamers may scoff, there is no doubt that even they see the effects of the dumbing down of games - as developers reach for a broader audience and develop their games for console and then port that to PC. To me, however, BF3 is that breath of fresh air that I've been waiting for. The maps are enormous. The weapons are fairly realistic and have selector switches. If you had asked me in 2003 when I was playing Ghost Recon I'd say that's pretty much standard, and now that it's 2011 even more so, but sadly it is not. The gameplay options are also pretty vast. There are a ton of different vehicles in which you can play around, as well as four different main classes that can be customized in different ways. You can have 12v12 which again, if you had told me 10 years ago that 24 players on a server would be as far as we would come by 2012, I may have cried... speaking on the development of games in general it's kinda sad. However, compared to other console games out right now, it's obviously very nice. BF3 does have some flaws which are generally overshadowed by the immense fun you'll be having while playing it. For one, the engineer class is clearly the superior class, at least on open vehicle maps. On smaller and indoor maps, the class system that forces teamwork shines a bit better, but on open maps your squad will often consist of four engineers. I have heard some complaints that the larger maps a bit too large, which does have some merit. Although you generally can spawn pretty close to the action, that doesn't detract from the point that, as mainly a conquest player, there can be up to 5 territories, with only 12 players on each team. A bit of math puts between 2 and 3 players at each territory, but since players generally roll in squads of four that kind of divide doesn't generally happen. You can obviously just station a squad at 3/5 of the territories, although things never work out so pretty. Basically what I'm getting at it that I like the map size, but feel that often there are not enough players to fill it - I will quite often move from territory to territory and neutralize/capture two or three in a row without finding any opposition. A lot of people have also complained about joining servers on a squad. The thing is, that since there are dedicated servers as compared to a matchmaking p2p system, there are usually only about four slots free on any server, which is usually two on each team. So when you first join you may be separated from your squad. After one or sometimes two games you can then switch teams as people leave and new people join. It's a minor thing to complain about, as I don't mind killing my friends just a little bit, and after one game we are usually all on the same team in the same squad, ready to have a blast. Anyhow this is getting to be a bit long winded, but I will finish by saying BF3 has really raised the bar for console FPS games. My faith in games has been momentarily restored, and I will never play a lesser FPS. If you haven't tried it, then give it a whirl, I guarantee you won't be disappointed. Expand

Battlefield 3 is really made for multiplayer and i don't think people should buy it for the single player experience - you got better options if you are looking for something more focused on that type of game experience. Sencillamente un multijugador genial. Lo que llama la atención es la calidad gráfica y los detalles. Todo ellos sumado a los vehículos, la acción, la amplitud de los mapas y las opciones hacen un verdadero placer jugar al multijugador. Me encanta!!

Nothing even comes close to touching this game's multiplayer. I am 25 yrs old and it is hard for me to find a game that really impresses me (since I have played sooo many over the years). BF3 is awesome in every aspect of multiplayer. The only thing keeping it from a 10 is the single player campaign. It wasn't horrible but it could've been better.

Vehicles are a must (only in certain gametypes for you who wine about vehicles(see below)). You can fly multiple types and sizes of attack and scout heli's, jets, tanks, jeeps, humvee's, etc. Depending on game mode they have different versions of maps ranging from tiny call of duty size maps to GTA like sized maps. Single player is ehhh, ok. The jet mission is very fun, graphics again are great. If you only play multiplayer games for the single player then you are wasting your money.

Overall solid game. Call of Duty i remember always had lag, in BF3 the servers are run by DICE and EA and you dont have lag. Unless your into lag then buy COD series. They have an online website to track your stats and compare to friends on xbox, ps3, & pc as well as mobile apps and you can make/join platoons as well.

If you want to be like everyone else and buy COD go ahead. Have fun calling in air strikes since most of you COD guys will probably have a pretty hard time jumping in a AH-1 Super Cobra or Apache, picking up your friends and flying over and being the air strike like we are doing in BF3 as we speek.

They know what they are and thats a MP experience and if you wanna try support the single player, then you obviously haven't played any other proper single player experience this year as the market is littered with better experiences. Now back to battlefield 3, i'll start with a list of innovations in gameplay and graphics.... The destruction system, while flawed and not red faction, its still really immersive and realistic. Terrain deformation, bit of wall flying off wen trying to hide.... its insane who good it looks. I mean I see a bunch of enemies hold up in one area, fire a rocket above them and the building falls and kills them all. Like wow! It brings new levels of realism and immersion to the experience. The animation system they built is incredible, characters die, move, shoot, you name it, they do it so realistic its makes you stop a marvel at the true innovation they've incorporated here. Vehicles looks amazing, firing a tank in a wooded area and all the trees bend to the shockwave of the force from the cannon.... WHAT GAME DOES THIS! So amazing to watch. Small little innovations to gameplay also to balance the experience are implemented like flashlight blindings, laser sights so blind snipers out of their camping poistion, not to mention the lense flare if the sniper point in scope at you specifically. All these little things help push the genre forward. The sound in this game is unrivaled by ANY game. Just amazing, I feel like I'm in a real battlefield from start to finish of a map and it truly shows what can be done these days. This is the game you show to non-gamers to show them how far games have come and how much room for improvement a lot of games need to make to even come close to competitive with this great title. You can tell they put so much time and effort into a truly deep, immersive and NEW experience than its previous iterations. New engine = yes imo. DICE you've done it again 10/10 Expand

Battlefield boost exceptionally well Multiplayer action letting you play the role of ground forces and the ability to control vehicles to help aid in tactical objective game play in such modes as Conquest and Rush. While all I can say good things for the multiplayer section, the single player is a completely different story. The storyline presented was fairly believable and good enough to keep playing through to see it end, however the plot lines get ridiculous at times and the enemies are cheap, often killing you with a couple of shots in even the easiest of difficulties. The story has a good solid background but failed to delivered on it and leave players unsatisfied with the results. You play through several levels that seems vibrants and large yet there isn't a sense of exploring the open area since there isn't any special items or secret packages to collect it makes the scenery just there to look at. Overall this game is only for the multiplayer shooter enthusiasts only, if you are looking a decent single player then this won't disapoint you only leaving less then enthuse about playing it other then that this game deserves to be purchased for the multiplayer alone Expand

It would have been like trying to port Crysis 1 without the CryEngine3. BF3 shows us that the end of this console generation is here, and that this generation is now holding back innovation and the future of games (seriously, wtf is the physics engine on MW? I'll start on campaign, boring if I'm honest, some great levels, some great set pieces, bit too linear, but campaigns usually need to be on shooters, its no ArmA is it! Scenes like thunder run or the first time you walk onto the deck of the aircraft carrier are very "wow this looks awesome" and its moments like that in the campaign that make it look better than its rivals, it plays well and looks good, although nowhere near as good as the pc version, iv installed both the game and texture lack and while impressive its still nowhere near to the pc version, Now the multiplayer, 30fps 720p (just) looks and plays good, its a change of pace to cod adding vehicles etc, but it does little to keep you hooked in and some server issues and lag etc have made some gamers have less than good experiences online, The squad features and clan options are lacking heavilly in a game that is supposed to thrive on team play, the levels although well designed and quite big have little in the way of choke points or areas to hold down with a squad, exept the smaller levels like metro,
Levelling up takes an eternity and can get boring,
The player cap at 24 is a step foreward but surely 32-40 would have been better, mag managed a smooth 256 on mag! Overall the game is let down by slow and boring levelling system, and poor squad and clan settings, a small player count and ea been server hoggers although dedi servers are great, they don't work for xbl! The player count could have been better and they could have done a console based app for battlelog, a great looking and sounding game, but not enough to hook you in unless your already a fan from 2005! Great effort and ill look forward to the updates and map pack,

Damn, this game is amazing. I cannot believe people complained about Operation Metro for the beta. That map shows the brilliant design of this game and how even free of vehicles bf3 beats out mw. And the reviews that say this is the best multiplayer game to date are right on. I'd say the only game that is comparable is Left 4 Dead. This game has changed warfare games for good.

After playing this for countless hours I do have some criticisms. The soldier skins. They're good, but extremely repetitive. It's kind of funny seeing three of the same soldiers side by side, twins and triplets everywhere. The unlocks. Some are great. Some don't work properly (dog tags). Some are repetitive. There should have been more unlocks. By the time you get to colonel there is really nothing new, and only very lengthy spans between dog tags are left. Something to be learned from mw2 would be the addictive unlocks.

There's also no way to communicate outside of your squad. And you should be able to communicate with the other team between matches. There is a bit of an issue of repeating maps before completing a full cycle. And with this, teams are switched up or you can be thrown into an entirely random game which all of a sudden has opposing strategy and unfamiliar teammates.

These are very minor flaws however and won't stop me from putting in hundreds of hours.

The user reviews posted are highly biased from a fanboy perspective. 10 from the BF fanboys, and 1 from the Cod chaps. Neither score is representitive of the games quality. If you intend on buying BF3 for the campaign, I strongly suggest that you rent instead as it is an uninspired standard shooter from start to finish (which isn't very long). Multiplayer is where it is at. BF3 is

I play Battlefield for Multi Player only, so let me get that out of the way. People make some good points. I would love some tutorials on flying jets and Heli's. Wish the player count was higher on Conquest and Rush modes. Hate spawn killers in TD, even though I am guilty of it sometimes. But what makes this game great is you can camp if you want, you can go guns a blazing, it depends on your ability to work with your teammates. It is very hard to run and gun by yourself, but if you have a couple of solid teammates you can run around the map and pick off the campers. Or work together as a team setting up camp and destroy the competition. I love the team element of the game even though I hardly ever wear a headset. The shooting controls are harder than MW and I like that. Game requires skill and team work. I understand why people like MW and I don't begrudge them, I've played it for many hours, but BF3 is a significant upgrade to BC2 whereas MW3 should be a DLC for MW2. Not to mention the newer maps are even smaller. This game does have some glitchy graphics on XBOX (even with the install) and sometimes matchmaker creates some oddly uneven games but overall I play a little almost every day and LOVE it! Expand

Never was a fan until I actually bought the game. Hands down best multiplayer first person shooter I have ever played in my life.

Reason I don't give it a 10 stars is kind of frustratingly simple. You can't quit and join another map when the final end game screen comes up. This small thing has annoyed the crap out of me. Also trying to get your friends to play on the same team is also

Also trying to get your friends to play on the same team is also frustratingly difficult. Almost want to give it an 8 because of those two screw ups. But hey, they overwhelmingly make up for it with the unbelievable game play.

Oh and I've heard people saying that its 30fps is a bad thing. But I've also heard that the human eye can't really detect much difference in anything over 32fps... Looks amazing to me.

It has everything people love about the battlefield series. Great maps, great multiplayer, and unlimited fun. It is the best multiplayer shooter on the market. It just feels great and looks great. It's got new intuitive features and all kinds of new goodies. A definite buy.

I think this game is honestly my favorite out of the Battlefield series. Not only does it have a good story behind it; the multiplayer is crazy. Minus all the bugs me and friends still seem to have a blast blowing stuff up in jets!

If you're looking for a great single player campaign you're out of luck, rent BF3 or pick it up in the bargain bin. If you're looking for the best online multiplayer action then BF3 is your game hands down.

While Battlefield 3 was aiming to be the biggest name this holiday season, and while it has made strides towards knocking off Modern Warfare 3, it misses the mark. That's not to say it is a bad game, it's a very good one, but the polish and excitement that is found on the Call of Duty series feels missing here. Still, there are much worse games you could end up with this holiday season, and the competition between the two series should heat up significantly in the next few years.

This experience alone sums up what Battlefield 3 is about. It isn't a John Rambo run and gun shooter and it shouldn't really be compared to MW3 in terms of how you play it. For players to truly understand the Battlefield experience you need to embrace the teamwork by joining a squad and calling out your spotted enemies, as after all, sometimes you also need your back covered too.
