I legitimately thought the game was very good. Way better than the garbage that was BC2. However, I wasn't going to give it a 10 until IGN insisted on writing TWO full articles crying about "Metacritic trolling." Sorry not everyone agrees with you, IGN.

Really I mean come on, the Xbox 360 came out in 2005...how could anyone expect it to keep up with a next gen PC title? Considering the vastly obsolete hardware that dice had to work with, I write this review very impressed with how good they made the game look, graphics wise i can honestly say its the best on consoles period. Concerning bugs and lag online...well for lag consult your ISP, and for bugs that's just one of the flaws of frostbite 2. If you read the pc version reviews every reviewer mentions the glitches that come along with the engine, but it is forgiven due to the weighing of the pros vs. cons list. For TLDR people:

Not in the least bit a perfect game single player wise....but who wants to play battlefield single player ? Multiplayer has always been the selling point of the franchise.

And to those crying about graphics, just buy a pc since your complaining about a pc lead title...

First of all I would like to clarify something before I get flamed with ratings. I am in no way a FANBOY! I do play Call of Duty, however I was a Battlefield fan long before I played call of duty. Now that being said... The graphics and Visuals are incredible, the shear size and ability to explore the various maps is amazing and I am enjoying this game, when I can get online! Now moving on to my various complaints:

    1. The campaign provided nothing new to a the first person shooter warfare genre, however I played it and enjoyed myself for a few hours.
    2. The sever connectivity issues were never resolved in the BETA like they should have been.
    3. There is an enormous slue of glitches and hick ups in campaign and online (freezing, never ending loading screens, holes in maps, cinematic to gameplay triggers not going off (and vice a versa)). A complete lack of two player (split screen) gameplay.
    4. Midnight purchasers were not rewarded in any way what so ever by a greeting in the form of a 1.5 Gb download as soon as they got home.
    5. Next is both EA's and DICE's complete disregard for their fanbase. No updates on their forums at all besides, "we're aware of the issue." or, "maintenance is taking longer than expected." We have heard not one apology, not one condolence. All EA or DICE have publicly stated is that their game is the best and it's a COD killer. Sounds like they have become more concerned with beating CoD and less concerned with a quality product that will impress their fanbase.

Coming from a PC gamer who has bought and played every single BF game since 1943 I have to say that I love this game. I am going to throw one negative out there and say that the campaign isn't that great. It gives a fairly good story and has a lot of action but to be honest, it's a little bit dry, pretty easy, and fairly short . Also, if you didn't enjoy the BC2 campaign or the MW2Coming from a PC gamer who has bought and played every single BF game since 1943 I have to say that I love this game. I am going to throw one negative out there and say that the campaign isn't that great. It gives a fairly good story and has a lot of action but to be honest, it's a little bit dry, pretty easy, and fairly short . Also, if you didn't enjoy the BC2 campaign or the MW2 campaign, then you probably wont enjoy this one (it feels like a mixture of both). However, I personally don't care at all about the campaign so I didn't include that in my score. The multiplayer and co-op are where it's at (If I did even take it into account, I would give the game a 9.7 and just round up since I can't give that type of score).

I'll first review the co-op because I wan't to leave the best for last. To simplify my emotions about co-op, I will just say that it's everything the campaign wasn't. Seriously. It's just a very fun set of missions that I've personally enjoyed a lot and they give you a good preparation for the multiplayer. They are a little short, but they are completely worth trying out if you have a friend to play it with.

    Now on to the multiplayer:

I've been a BF fan ever since the beginning and I have to say that the multiplayer for this game is everything I expected from DICE. One thing that I particularly love about the 360 version is the amazing server browser included. This is probably one of the best browser on consoles I have experienced so far. It gives you a very wide arrange of options that I've only so far seen on PC. It's just wonderful. Plus, [DICE] servers have a very helpful line if the server is full so once someone leaves, you will instantly join into a full game. The sizes of the maps also surprised me. From videos I've seen, the maps seemed very small compared to maps in other BF games. But when I played, I was very pleased to say that maps are very large in size. I wouldn't honestly say THE largest maps I've seen like in BF2 and such but they are almost there. If you've played Heavy Metal in BC2, Caspian is about twice to three times as large. The sound is wonderful too. I get goosebumps from listening to rockets fly by my head. Also, here's a tip: go to settings>audio then switch the sound from "hi-def" to "war tapes". The sounds get even better.

There are a few problems with being on a bad team (it's very easy to get on one) but that's more a problem with the players and not the game. If you do find yourself on one, I would suggest quitting the server and finding another one. This is really nothing new though. Uneven teams has been a problem since BF:1942. But I personally have my best moments when the game has even teams.

I won't review the graphics because you people can just see for yourself. I will tell you though that you need to dwnld the high-def texture pack. It does wonders and it barely takes any time at all to install.

To sum up, I would suggest skipping the SP altogether and just going to multiplayer. If you are like me and you have to play the campaign before you play the multiplayer then I would suggest that you go for co-op. It's a much better campaign than the SP.

Write a review based on how this game entertains you, not how another one entertained you better in the past.
    Review time.
In order of what you first experience.
Visuals: 8, the game does a very good job of showing of the full potential of the xbox360. However in saying that, you can already see signs where the developers had to substitute detail in one area to maximise it in another. Eg: some areas show signs of complete unity of light, shadow and texture, while others skimp out on the above to maximise the frame-rate in high action areas. If you have a HDD, you can install the texture pack which boosts the depth of textures while adding new ones.
Sound: 10, Brilliant Sound, all authentic and the explosions sound insane. If you have a quality surround sound system the game shines.
Gameplay: 7 Ok...here's the tricky part...and il let you guys see it for yourself when you pick up the game. But the game does suffer from some akward game-play moments. Firstly maximising the graphical potential of the game has influenced the framerate. At times the game does feel slow, in others its ok. The single player story, does play well, but is rather short. However the shortness does leave you with a few memorable scenes. Online: 10, the game shines. There is no other title out there that offers such a large expanse to battle against your friends with. The huge amount of vehicles, and the experience of fighting in a true battlefield is everlasting. The sound of jets above you going nuts in dogfights, the sound of tanks in a battle in a field next to you, it all feels like your really in a game where your little self can make a huge influence. Now if only EA fixed there servers............

Some frustration aside with getting online Tuesday, I decided not to let this hamper my opinion of the game. The criticisms for this game are valid, its not as epic or nice looking as the PC version, and the single player is even more of a wash now that its on the second disc, but it is still a competent game on the 360.

The lighting, textures, and feel of guns are all very well placed. People want to know why they're getting killed? It's because you're out in the open, treating it like you're on a paintball field in Modern Warfare. The only way we win matches is by going slow, using teamwork, and being practical. I don't want to get into the argument about which game is better, Activision has always done an excellent job of the run and gun shooter, but its really apples and oranges between that and Battlefield. I'm sure both games will do well in the market, and there should be options for shooters.

When its not connecting right, this game be frustrating, but that always gets better with time. Bad Company 2 is what got me back into this franchise, and based off of Tuesday nights game with my group, we're going to get a lot of shelf life out of it, but please, don't be haters because you play this game by yourself. If you play CoD, then by all means go play it and enjoy. This game at its core is well made, the levels are balanced and vary in setting, and make it so you can create great memories for yourself, not just relying on scripted events. Vehicles once again add new tactical perspectives, and the rebalancing of classes make it easy to find your niche. The unlocking system is a bit excessive, breaking down into subcategories of unlocks, but I already have the gun I want for the class I want after one night. I hope this information has been helpful.

Now that CODMW3 is here and BF3 is running I feel that Battlefield 3 is hands down a one of the best multiplayer experiences this year! The visuals, sound, and game play create a epic experience every time you start a match! I think that everyone should try it for 2 or three hours and after you get your barrings and understand that this is not a arcade shooter like COD they'll fall in love with the options that the classes, vehicles, and destructible environment create! Ok got that out of the way now for what youve been waiting for. I have played battlefiled 1942, BF 2, BFBC, BFBC 2, all the way up to battlefield 3. Ive also played the cod series. with that being said I ve been waiting for this game for 6 yrs. and I have to say Im not disapointed! The graphics are great install the hd texure pack! The 360 version looks like the pc version on required specs. which isn't bad at all! The sound in 7.1 or 5.1 you can hear everything from the buildings falling apart, literaly you can hear peices of ruble falling off of buldings. Thats awesome, Bullets fling by you teammates chater.EA did a great job of the sound mixing. Now for the game play BF 3 does a great job of bringing something for every one so to speak. You have your conquest and rush game types which take place on huge maps. while big in size they also have tight spaces. ie ally ways and building hallways to cut through. which makes it great for stake outs. All the deathmatch modes come on smaller maps they are still good size just nothing compaired to the objective based game modes. Some maps are so big you have tanks, jets, and choppers, (oh my) sorry had to. Thre prestation is good. anyone farmiler with battlefield 2 you will notice quickly that its alot like it in the menus. You can see the servers you have played on, save your favorite servers and search for what ever game type your little heart desires. With all of this being said. 6 yrs waiting 2 BFBC's l8r. Which were ok and God only knows how many COD's which is starting to get stagnet. same stuff differant coat of paint each yr. Im rambling anyway if you play well with others and play in a squad thats where BF 3 pays of big. You and your friends will have a great time with this game if your a lone wolf stick with COD! Well, Battlefield 3 for Xbox360 IS for us. It's like pick-up ball that's just competitive enough without being too serious for itself.
As a consumer of average video game consumption, i've shopped through the most oft-recommended/advertised multiplayer shooter series on Xbox360: Gears of War, Halo, and Call of Duty. All were fun, but with major drawbacks. Gears had mech-like sluggish characters. Halo was like one long frenetic ninja duel. And Call of Duty had poor graphics and an unbearable amount of eerily over-committed...students of the game. Battlefield 3 hits the sweet spot: just realistic enough that your actions actually have an impact despite lacking some gaming trick, yet maintaining a good pace throughout. Most importantly, Battlefield 3's multiplayer makes, well, playing with multiple players fun. There's always someone to work in teams with. Your actions make a meaningful contribution to the team even if you're not individually a skilled killer. Other players are encouraging and, if you feel disheartened from dying many times, there is always someone on your team to deploy next to and follow their lead. There are fewer trash-talking cowards hiding behind their screen names here because--i'm guessing--they generally don't have the patience for a team effort. Personally, i believe you will enjoy this game: actually "enjoy", not just "appreciate". That is the best praise i have for a video game, and the only merit a video game truly earns to begin with.
NOTE: I have only played the online mutiplayer, so i can only speak in that regard.

Great graphics, smooth controls and large maps, make this the online goty. Its true, the sp campaign isn't that great but who cares. Excellent environments that are beautiful and include realistic sound effects. Fun to play! A clear winner over MW3. I normally prefer the single player mode in MW3, but this is the first time that MW3 fails me on that one as well... Multiplayer is, no questions asked, a BF3 domain. Despite getting off to a rough start with predictable server issues, I am now enjoying the depth to the multiplayer, and I was pleasantly surprised by the quality of the multiplayer maps - when I heard they were doing Back to Karkand expansion, I instantly jumped to the conclusion that those 4 maps would be the best on the game. Every single map on the disc plays differently and there's plenty of variety, with some maps focussing heavily on vehicles and others primarily infantry with one or two tanks/APCs. I have brought MW and the prestige editions for MW2 and Black Ops and loved Bad Company 2. Now I didn't even show an interest in MW3 I may even end up buying it later on down the track just for the single-player because I got sick of playing MW2 and Black Ops online just to get quick scoped all the time or the guys who are in a party just go on different teams and just keep killing one guy for the kill streaks. Now I brought BF3 when it was released and I have only played the first mission of BF3 because most of my time I've been playing the multiplayer. I believe that the open maps and number of vehicles you can control create many different tactics you can apply to the battlefield and I have even witnessed different tactics used against me. True that the servers were really bad the first week but they worked on them and now it's up and running perfectly! Plus the add-on we get for free (if you purchased the limited edition) which has new vehicles, weapons, and re-created maps from the previous game. Where as and I'm sorry about this but paying 1200 MS points for 4-6 maps as just outrageous and yes I did purchase 1 or 2 of the map packs. If anyone has actually read up to this point I am a casual gamer and love my games, even so much I don't even trade them or resell them but if you are looking for a great multiplayer experience this game is for you, the amount of upgrades for your weapons, even with your level, plus for each vehicle, will just keep you coming back for more. The only thing they really need to work on is an easier way to quit out of a game without waiting for a new game to start. I hope this review helps a lot of people decide on which game to purchase, lol or just buy both. Expand

Also I have had glitching like registering my jet during a lag where I"m pulling up, but due to the lag and glitch, I crash. Also the lame fact that a Street lamp makes a jet explode and the lamp stays standing.

I know several players have had complaints, several in vain. I.e. All my teammates are playing as snipers. Or the super bright tactical light. I see the tac light that bright because it's suppose to make it hard to see. And the sniper deal, that's just kids being kids and not using strategy. One of my friends complained how a person could destroy a tank with a missile. I don't get the complaint. I honestly don't.

For the credit on NPC's I love how I was trying to out shoot the NPC's. Not prevent being swarmed but the somehow endless killing spree of wiping out a whole village like Call of Duty. The only thins I would change are that NPC's don't have that stupid knife lunge. On the customization page on the main menu, you could filter out weapons you don't have. Also have more co-op missions. I felt the need for more besides 6 short missions with a friend. There are glitches to fix, which will receive attention in time.

The important thing to remember is that they are not gamebreaking flaws and dont deter from the incredible fun factor that is contained within the massively addictive multiplayer. One of the main reasons for this is one of the games major downpoints, the single player mode. The story is uninspired and follows the usual first person shooter staple of quick-time events and vehicle sections to build to a creschendo of the obvious. I will say the graphics during the single player are astounding at times and it does contain some rather funky set pieces, But we all know that BF3's single player is just tagged on because in these day and age, games have to try and cater for everybody. The developer, Dice have sort have given a nod to this in the fact that its stituated on the second disc. The multiplayer mode however sits on the disc uno, along with a HD pack thing that you have to install to your hard drive before you can play the game (this, coupled with a 189mb dashboard update for the game that fixes a lot of the games launch day/beta issues). Inside you will find plethroa of meaty maps, epic in scale, filled with usable vehicles and gun emplacements, choppers and jet fighters (the latter two are hard to control in the default controll scheme so i recommend switching the controls to southpaw in the options menu.) The XP unlock system is basic but effective giving the game a longetivy and also allowing you to unlock weapons, camo, attachments and special abilitys and also weapons for vehicles. Super polished and intensley addictive. Most players however wont give it a chance due to the other elephant in the room. The big COD, now, fact is, I played Call of Duty annually since the original Modern Warfare and will day that the game is a great game, The gameplay grew stale in my opinion and I decided to seek elsewhere for my first person fix. BF3 has filled those boots well so much so its taken choice over this years interation of the Infinity Ward game. For most COD vets, this game will be too hard, and contain too much learning curve. This game has such a strong emphasis on team play and when you really start to understand how each class operates and how each piece of equipment can really help your team if you work together, you begin to understand how deep this game can be if people learn their roles and work together as a squad. The maps are big, but there are usually just enough vehicles around to get you to your destination quickly. In this game you not only level up your rank, but you also level up your individual class based on how much you use it. THe same with weapons. Nearly every weapon has close to 18-19 different attachments. How many attachments you can use at once depends on the gun, but typically 3 attachments can be equipped at once. I can't say enough about how much fun this game can be if you play with friends and work together as a squad. Each match offers so many different ways to obtain victory, that it really doesn't get old. I highly recommend this game if you enjoy team & objective based gameplay. You don't have to be an expert at getting killstreaks and having a high K/D ratio to win games. You can score a lot buy supporting your squad and completing objectives. This game is for people who enjoy team games. Expand

For any gamer who is still on the fence about this game, i highly reccomend you give it a chance. Sure the campaign is nothing special but thats not what battlefield is about. The visuals and graphics arent mind bogling but after installing the HD content, this game looks great all around. The matchmaking is very good, allowing you to get into a game in seconds or you can filter the search to a specific game mode and map. Lets not forget this game has dedicated servers, something Call of Duty always lacked. I have spent about 40 hours on multiplayer and literally only 2 games ive been in had noticable lag. Could have been my internet connection though.

There is so much to unlock in BF3, you choose between four classes, those of which are assault, engineer, support, and recon. Each have their own set of weapons and gadgets. Each weaopon is also HIGHLY customizable. Their is literlay like 10 different scope and sights available for your gun. Not to mention suppressors, shotgun attachments, flash supprersors, grips, you name it.

I love the maps in this game, they range from big to huge. But dont let this turn you away, the game is still fast paced because everyone tends to center around the objective. Covering ground is a breeze with the different vehicles you can use. These range from jeeps, tanks, helicopters, and jets. Yup you can fly jets in this game, albiet the air vehicles can be difficult to drive at first, but after a few embarrasing crashes you'll get the hang of it.  That being said this game is so fun with all these vehicles at your disposal, its such a different experience than Call of Duty ever gave me. Remeber in blackops where you had to get an 11 kilstreak to get a chopper gunner? Well say goodbye to that cuz here you can just hop in an attack heli and rain hell on the enemy team. Dont worry about balance issues since any vehicle can be brought down by any team with half a brain.

As long as Dice continues to support this game, I can see myself playing for the next two years easy. Now excuse me while I go base jumping off a cliff deep into enemy territory :P

DICE did mention the game to kick mw3 in the ass and...its debatable, DICE's engine is great but been a new invention means there are many bugs that they have, and keep on fixing. many little things dont seem right in multiplayer, like the spawn sometimes, the sound going mute at times, and a few more. That is an important flaw to say its better than COD, but what i really love is how people play it, there are always noobs that camp (camper knows camper does) but the fact that there are no killstreaks keeps the majority out and in the firefight, instead of hiding to get a few more kills for their killstreak like in MW3. i have never played Bf2 but i really like how BF3 feels unique in the shooter genre, the cutomizing, 4 classes, and weapons feel right not one been really overpowered e.t.c. they did not bring up the BEST game in the industry but it DEFINITLY feels rewarding once you take a break from MW3 or any other game, because it feels different and fair. First off, multiplayer is massively addicting and satisfying. It is without a doubt one of the best looking games I've played in a while. I found the multiplayer to be a great improvement over Bad Company 2, with added in-depth customization, unlockables, jets and many other additions. The new maps also look beautiful, and feature a lot of interesting terrain. The destruction of terrain at times seems to be a step back from BFBC2, and there are a few balance issues, however DICE has been working to correct them. There is also the occasional glitch, but not enough to detract from the captivating gameplay that Battlefield 3's multiplayer offers.

For the campaign, the game is sub-par. It features an intestesting story, however it is somewhat poorly-executed. Plentiful quicktime events plague the game, as well as AI that is at times unfair and unfun to play against. I was disappointed that there was barely any use of vehicles, as for me that is a strong point in Battlefield's trademarked gameplay. On the plus, the campaign looks absolutely stunning with some impressive visuals thanks to a brand new graphics engine.

Overall, BF3 is a great multiplayer offering and how I feel true war-FPS multiplayer SHOULD be played. The campaign is a let-down, but don't let that keep you from buying this game. Totally worth it!

Bugs? only bugs i get are bugs when sometimes the sound will bug out if too many explosions happen around me at one time. Constantly spawn killed by snipers? recon is the least played class so how can you get killed that much plus sniping isnt like COD where you can do 360 no scopes and think ur awesome, its legit sniping in battlefield. Controls are bad? wtf its the same controls as COD with the addition of spotting. Dice rushed bf3? they spent 3 years developing bf3 and frostbite 2 and u call this instead of mw3 which got one year to be developed rushed? Small maps? Get ur eyes checked. but i will admit the campaign is pretty boring and co op is pretty short. but its not that big of a deal this is like one slice of a whole pizza. NOW THAT SOME LIES ARE CLEARED, lets talk about what bf3 is good at. bf3 has by far the best graphics i have seen even if its not at bf3s best because of console limitations and those who say bf3 has bad graphics have to check their eyes. bf3 has its own server hosts so no more annoying host migration *cough* *cough* *COD*. lag is not a problem in bf3 as it rarely lags at all. the maps are a great change from CODs tightly packed maps they feelnice and open and give you space to think. many people will fail and give bf3 a bad review because theyve played COD for too long and they expect all fps to be like that. BF3 IS NOT COD!!!! bf3 has its own style and you have to be dedicated to learn how the game works. campers are no problem because once i demolish their cover theyll have to taste the bullets from my m416. vehicles make jobs easy to do but their not invincible so you have to learn to retreat not think ur chuck norris' son and blast at air. i have much more good stuff to say but it will all be revealed when you buy bf3. remember if u go into battlefield with COD tactics, youll never grasp the true awesomeness of bf3 Expand

The amount of customization is ridiculous and there is a decent amount of vehicles. Speaking of vehicles, the jets and helicopters have especially amazing flight models and can do some serious damage. Luckily though, from about the 10 hours I've played it seems that the game is incredibly well balanced and rock-paper-scissors mentality is very prevalent. As for the campaign, it is incredibly mediocre and is simply a little addition to the multiplayer. Co-op as well is a little addition which can be quite a bit of fun. If you were buying Battlefield 3 for the single player you may be out of luck for two reasons. For one, it really isn't that good and two, you must be new to the franchise if you were buying a battlefield game for the single player. If you are a new and casual player who lacks patience or team work, you may find this game very frustrating because it isn't as dumbed down as some other FPSs on the market. If you find learning the ins and outs of a new game fun however, you will absolutely enjoy the multiplayer as it may be one of the best I have ever played. (And yes, that includes BF2) Expand

They were nothing that really take away from the game, but it is still annoying to shoot someone, get the kill, and then shoot them some more because they stay in the exact same place and position. The good- well there really is too much to list but i will try to sum it up - The game is visually stunning. I really mean stunning, to the point of where you have to play it to believe it. The online multiplayer is fantastic - there are many of the same modes, but they are done well. The controls(a big issue i had with BF:bc2) are smooth and natural. When you play it for the first time, it is very easy to adjust to the preset control scheme. The classes are standard Battlefield, but they are rehashed and a bit more balanced than BF:bc2. The game is challenging - like every Battlefield I have played before - which made it more rewarding to get my first 20-0 game. The vehicle collection on multiplayer is impressive, and the vehicles are more real to life with roll, yaw and pitch style controls. The campaign is good, but it seems to be a bit linear compared to other Battlefield games. I will be honest, this game would get a 10 from me, however the server issues for xbox have to be addressed. I'll admit, the connection issues are a real problem and are extremely annoying. Unfortunately, this happens initially every time a Battlefield game comes out. Sure, the single player isn't terribly special but that's not why we play Battlefield in the first place. I've put many hours into CoD and it's a very different game and I'm tired of all these comparisons. Those of you saying it isn't as "smooth" are correct but this is only because MW is an arcade style shooter and battlefield is not. BC2 was my first battlefield game and initially I had the same complaints. Once you get used to playing BF3, you will truly appreciate it for the "Battlefield moments." There is nothing like sneaking up on a tank on foot and taking it out with C4 or your rocket launcher while it does its best to destroy the building you're lurking in. The tense moments when I thread a Hummer through enemy lines with full squad aboard and counting on me while the world explodes around us are fantastic. Strafing the enemy position in my A-10 and outmaneuvering enemy missile fire makes me want to shout with glee. Give it another shot guys and you won't be disappointed. Expand

The campaign starts off real nicely without giving the story away you play a series of flashbacks that are quite entertaining. The only bad part about it so far is the boring interrogations that populate between levels and the amount of bugs I run into. I the 2 hours I have played campaign I ran into about a dozen bugs. Most of which were enemies crouch or prone through cover or light sources stay lit after being shot, to major things like offset lighting and texture problems. The multiplayer I have no problem with seeing as the online servers are shut down and I wasn't able to play. Come on DICE if Battlefield Bad Company 2 was so popular that you had to have more servers wouldn't you think that Battlefield 3 might be more popular? Anyways From what i've seen so far is a great game populated with bugs and glitches that will probably be fixed in the next patch. Can't wait to play it some more. 8/10 Expand

1 of if not the best multiplayer experience on the Xbox. single player is good but lacking in depth. I would recommend to the multiplayer harden people out there, this is the experience for you. if you're looking for a single player experience there are better games out there.

First of all those 56 reviews that are negative are obviously Call of Duty fanboys just trying to drop the user score of Battlefield 3...similar to the press reviews out there that are giving this game grief for no reason. The single player campaign is just as good if not better than most CoD and other FPS single player campaigns. The co-op is fine, I've only played it a little bit but it's definitely challenging on the higher difficulties, the only downside is that it only allows for 2 player co-op where I feel it would've been better with 4. Without question though the main attraction and pretty much the only reason it should be judged is the multiplayer and it is amazing. Gun customization and unlocks are a lot deeper than any other Battlefield game, the maps are BEAUTIFUL...some of the best graphics I've seen in a console game (must install HD texture pack or the textures of boxes and stairs will be quite ugly)...and the game is just awesome...

The only downside to the multiplayer is that they had server issues the first couple of days which probably also accounts for the 50+ negative reviews since it's likely people with no patience complaining about the servers...they have been up and running on all cylinders since yesterday (Thursday Oct 27th) and no longer having connection issues...the game has already shipped 10 million in the first week, so that should say enough right there...

Battlefield 3 is a must-have FPS experience for any shooter fan, and for the CoD fans...you can play team deathmatch and feel right at home but for the people who want the true Battlfield 3 experience...stick to Rush or Conquest

The only people rating this negative are the Call Of Duty fan boys who are scared their precious game will lose the FPS crown. This game deserves 10/10. BUY IT!

After one week this game is still growing. Either you love it or hate it. But to score it a 0 is retarded at best. And disrespectful to all the staff at Dice who worked their balls off on this title. There is no console shooter that dares to go where BF3 goes.

Ignore the low scores that you see below 4 or 5, these reviews are created by COD trolls that want to see Battlefield fail, or couldn't pull off one-hit 360 no-scope kills, or simply do not have the patience or to learn how to play (possibly due to an underdeveloped cerebral cortex). You may somehow believe that it looksIgnore the low scores that you see below 4 or 5, these reviews are created by COD trolls that want to see Battlefield fail, or couldn't pull off one-hit 360 no-scope kills, or simply do not have the patience or to learn how to play (possibly due to an underdeveloped cerebral cortex). I will get this out of the way first: this game is NOT Call of Duty. You may somehow believe that it looks like COD, but this game is definitely in it's own league. This game does NOT have perks or kill streaks that make you an unstoppable force on the Battlefield, sorry but the developer DICE doesn't believe in one man armies. The game is also more realistic than COD. When sniping, you can't just bunny hop and snipe people and expect to get a headshot, because it's near impossible in real-life with a 10-pound sniper rifle. Plus when sniping, you are going to have to account for something called gravity, the bullets aren't lasers, they are projectiles that are affected by gravity once the bullet exits the barrel, so aim high for that headshot, because it isn't the game's fault that you can't aim.

The multiplayer is where the game is worth it's cost, and why most people buy Battlefield. The maps are big, open, and allow different routes to each objective. Destruction makes the game dynamic and generally a round never plays the same way twice. The vehicles bring an element of changing the outcome of battle by supporting your teammates with superior firepower or moving them into flanking positions. The classes have their own niches that can bring defeat or victory to your team depending on their use. Assault can heal or revive teammates to keep them in the fight. Support supplies ammunition to teammates, and can create havoc with C4 or mortars. Engineers repair friendly vehicles and can cause harm to enemy ground vehicles or aircraft. Recon scouts for opponents, snipes, or hides like a little girl due to some players' style. The game does have a learning curve that teaches you to work in a team, flank your opponents, use vehicles to turn the tide of war, and importantly USE COVER in order to survive. Destruction will destroy your cover so it would be wise to keep moving when an enemy sees you in order to keep on fighting. Battlefield is for people who will work together. You are not Rambo. You will not win battles single-handed-ly against good teams. You will need teammates in order to coordinate attacks and expose your opponents' weaknesses. If you can't work with other people, please don't get the game and ruin other peoples' experience by being a worthless teammate and a waste of a server slot. It will save you some hate mail. If you work with others, the gameplay value increases exponentially because of the fun you have working and helping teammates work for victory. Teamwork is a corner-stone of Battlefield.

The graphics are phenomenal, make room on your 360 hard drive in order to download the HD texture pack, it makes the game beautiful.

For those that can't connect or get server disconnects, it's just something that happens to DICE with every release. But DICE sticks to it to make sure the game functions and will fix the servers as quickly as possible. Remember that COD Black Ops was almost unplayable on day one, so COD isn't better than BF in this case.

Plus DICE will not leave players in the cold with a lack of patches. They will bust their tails to balance weapons, stop exploits, fix bugs, and other problems. They have enough experience to know how to patch their own game quickly. TL;DR
-This game is not COD, it is Battlefield. Comparing the two is like comparing pee-wee football (COD) to College Football (Battlefield).

-Ignore the low scores from COD trolls who can't adapt to a more realistic, unforgiving game

-Multiplayer is where the game is at. Destruction, open maps, and vehicles make no two rounds of gameplay the same. This game is very fun to those who like to undertake challenges.

-The game requires a learning curve in order to be skillful. It will be tough at first, but once you learn the roles of the classes and vehicles, you can become a much better player.

-Teamwork is required to win. Lone wolves will fail against good teams. -Install the HD texture pack for a better visual experience

Ok, I have been trying to stay away from all this discussion, reading comments on both BF3 and MW3. Don't get me wrong, I really like both franchises and I am getting both games, but some things need to be addressed.

If you say that MW3is the same game with updated graphics - in all areas of technology, you just build upon your already built tools. Nothing wrong on updating graphics. Also, to keep the identity of the game, nothing more natural than keeping things familiar - that is why the number 3 follows the name - it is a continuation of the story, with also some gameplay updates.

BF3 also just built upon they had done before, and they did not create something new: they updated their engine and called a different name, making people believe that it is an entire different engine. BFBC2 had destructible environment and you could drive vehicles, the latest MOH installment had the player control a chopper...

Therefore, BF3 is also a graphically updated game with some gameplay updates as well - like going prone, for example. And, again the number 3 after the name stands as a continuation of a previous game, hence nothing genuinely new here.

The difference between them is the gameplay, as a lot of comments already described them, making the player's preference just a matter of personal taste.

Although both games are focused on online gameplay, I would like the campaign to be at least decent - and not only 5 hours of gameplay, which also turned me down on MOH.

Finally, how different they really are? FPS consists in running around shooting enemies and getting shot at. Just like racing games and sports games are the same year after year, with updated graphics, improved gameplay and graphics. They all build upon a pre-existing title. At this point, it would be economically unviable to create an entirely new engine, to any type of game, from scratch.

Like a said before, I really like both franchises and I am getting both games, but some things need to be addressed.

This has stuff which is not found in COD like usable vehicle and destructible environments. The achievements in this game feel more rewarding, too. Instead of prestige modes which just force you to unlock stuff for your weapons and perks, this system rewards your attention to specific classes and there are 4 to choose from... This game suffers from some early server issues but I'm sure that it will get ironed out, soon. If you like COD and are thinking about getting this game and bypassing MW3 - GET IT. Expand

If you're looking for a great single player campaign you're out of luck, rent BF3 or pick it up in the bargain bin. If you're looking for the best online multiplayer action then BF3 is your game hands down.

While Battlefield 3 was aiming to be the biggest name this holiday season, and while it has made strides towards knocking off Modern Warfare 3, it misses the mark. That's not to say it is a bad game, it's a very good one, but the polish and excitement that is found on the Call of Duty series feels missing here. Still, there are much worse games you could end up with this holiday season, and the competition between the two series should heat up significantly in the next few years.

This experience alone sums up what Battlefield 3 is about. It isn't a John Rambo run and gun shooter and it shouldn't really be compared to MW3 in terms of how you play it. For players to truly understand the Battlefield experience you need to embrace the teamwork by joining a squad and calling out your spotted enemies, as after all, sometimes you also need your back covered too.
