This game overall is a really good game. The graphics are amazing but still faces glitches. Will playing the Campaign I actually enjoyed, not the best I have seen but it was good. The one thing I can say though is that the servers are just terrible hopefully thats is fixed soon. Overall its a really good game with and outstanding Multiplayer.

Battlefield 3 is the perfect mix of destruction, vehicles, maps and weapons. DICE has done has done a great job and have perfected the FPS genre with this release. I have bought MW3 and this and i will probably never play MW3 after the 2 hours i played yesterday. DICE+EA+Battlefield= ****

This game is the best first person shooter i have ever tried! i love to play multiplayer, with jets, tanks and lots of other vehicles, coop is really fun too, i love to play it with my friend and other people on-line. The story is also good, i haven't played trough the whole story yet, but i am enjoying every second of it! I really recommend this game!

DICE put forth a great effort for this title. I will start off by saying that this title has been riddled with issues since launch. Issues with multiplayer have been rampant, from servers being down, to voice chat on PS3 being choppy, etc. The takeway from these issues however is the fact that despite how frustrating they can be, I simply cannot justify putting the game down. Issues with multiplayer have been rampant, from servers being down, to voice chat on PS3 being choppy, etc. The takeway from these issues however is the fact that despite how frustrating they can be, I simply cannot justify putting the game down. The graphics look a lot better and brighter, while at the same time the darks are a lot darker and ominous. There is so much depth and customization involved in the multiplayer that the game is hard to put down. Do you feel like sniping, healing? Perhaps a tank is more your style, or a jet, or a helicopter? Grab a gunner seat if you can't pilot. Or perhaps you want to boogie around the landscape with little more than 4 wheels and a prayer. Got that too. The real value in Battlefield is that there are so many strategies and ways to approach a specific map or firefight, and all of them are pretty damned fun. I have no tried single player yet, but I have never cared about single player in any Battlefield game. To me, it simply goes against what Battlefield began as; a great multiplayer experience that allows you to conduct what is arguably the closest demonstration of a war scenario to date. Finally, does it stack up with Modern Warfare 3? I don't know, it depends on how much you like Modern Warfare 2, because that is all that 3 is. Developer DICE rolled the dice with this game, and overall I think time will show they chose wisely with this endeavor. Expand

The campaign plot is not so good but the Multiplayer section is definitely awesome. But I think EA can build a training scene for noobs so they know how to use those jet fighters and vehicles instead of wasting those tactical advantages like crap.

Frostbite 2 - Huge leap on the graphics effects. EA finally ditched Windows XP/DirectX 9 support, I'd say this is very brave and great act.

    1. Large maps...yeah, yeah it slows down the game sometimes. Guess what that does....makes it more real. More room to move means more room to flank, over bound, shoot and communicate.

    2. Better weapon physics and customization.....bullet drop, loss of kinetic energy at range, shot guns that work past 50ft. For example you can get a 8x scope on your M16, but be prepared take a few shots before the guy goes down.....5.56 doesn't have knock down power over 350 yards. The fact that you can take a AK-74M and add a actual ACOG to it (once you've proved your worth with the weapon) is just cool.

    3. Varying MP sessions....Rush, fast paced survival fest that's a little TDM, a little capture the flag. Conquest, HQ style but the flag placements make you have to choose whether you stay and defend or chase down the next one. TDM......nuff said. Then, to top it off you got squad versions of this all.

    4. Vehicles.....powerful tools that aren't too overpowering and can be taken out with good team work, plus they all drive different and all have their strengths and weaknesses. (i.e. the M1 can take more hits but the T-90, or 72 cant remember, coax can almost shoot straight up for air defense).

There are some issues that have to be worked out like getting in and out of some rooms on some of the maps and debris/object that should be easily scalable or movable being impossible to do either to. Overall though the game delivers a solid shot in the arm for the FPS genre of gaming will probably spend 90% of the holidays in my Xbox.

I also like the fact that there aren't all the silly COD perks that basically are used to save you're butt if you're not a good player in general. Not having cold blooded and stuff like that was uncomfortable at first but once you get used to the game it's brilliant and a far better gaming experience that any fps I've played before. It's refreshing to see people really trying to stick to the objective and not worrying too much about k/d ratio. Rush is also a great game mode.

My real rating is 8.5, but can't so rounded it up. It would be a 9 but the re-spawn system is a little annoying, and helicopter third person view is annoying too. Recon also seems to be an underpowered class. A bit disappointed that the critics review give it less than MW2.5 but ultimately I'm pleased I didn't waste money on that (or BLOPS) and can enjoy BF3.

The X-box/PS3 experience online is a mixed bag- The pros are the combined arms feel of combat, the variety of maps and game modes, and most importantly the player base. The cons are the unlock system, the 24 player max, and the unlock system.

The highlights of the game occur when you are in a squad of people who are all talking to each other as you move across a map- in my case we took cover in a concrete building only to have a tank burst through the wall. We scattered, shouting "TANK", as the world exploded in shattered concrete and rebar around us. Those moments make the game worth the score alone.

The downside is that new players will find themselves staring into the dark, or into rubble-strewn streets, through iron sites while veterans are peering back through a bipod-stabilized, thermal-vision rifle with a heavy barrel. You'll hop in a tank to rumble across a battlefield with your basic canon as a tank on the other side of the map is firing image-enhanced guided munitions on you. There's a sense of unfairness about it.

Overall, Battlefield 3 is a good game. It repairs the flaws of the bad company series while upgrading on the good things, however, there's still some good with bad. Overall, Battlefield 3 is a good game. It repairs the flaws of the bad company series while upgrading on the good things, however, there's still some good with bad. While destroying a tank, chopper, or jet won't always render you a kill, it's also nice that the pilot of the vehicle has a chance to escape before death. The graphics are amazing even in multiplayer(where the bad company series seemed to have dumbed itself down a bit). The explosions are almost realistic and the destruction of buildings is almost jaw dropping to watch, yet feel a bit limited compared to the destruction in bad company series, in that it's much harder to blow a wall out. That said, it's also a bit more realistic in that aspect. The bullet drop and having to lead targets makes the combat aspects of the game more enjoyable for players like me that understand you're not gonna shoot the guy running across your screen half the map away in the head if you try shooting where he is instead of where he'll be. My issues with the game fall under seperate aspects. The coop. is weak at best, and the campaign feels a bit cod'esk in it's linear playstyle, yet it's still less linear than cod, but more so than the bad company series, still, having a campaign at all in a series that with 1942, vietnam, bf2, and 2142 never had a campaign, it's nice to see they put themselves in that realm and did so in a way to make them a strong competetor against the fps giant that is the cod series. With multiplayer my issues aren't with graphics, physics, or anything like that, but fall more in line with the guns and sites themselves. For instance a sniper will have to compete with bullet drop, where as a player with an assault rifle, shotgun with slugs, smg, or lmg seem to have much less issues with bullet drop. The sniper must aim above you to hit you at a certain distance, yet that guy with the saw can aim staight at you from the same distance and still hit you. it's almost rediculous how accurate weapons like saws and 240s are yet weapons like m4s and m16s are less accurate, which in my experience is just the opposite, bipod or not. Then you come into sites such as the unlocked site for each weapon which is labelled as a night vision sight, yet gives you the view of a thermal site, but yet is still blinded by flashlights and laser pointers the way and actual night vision site would be. It's a bit confusing. Perhaps one of the patches that dice releases should fix the bullet drop of non-snip weapons to be realistic, and perhaps they should give night vision sites the green hue of actual night vision and perhaps add thermal as another site that isnt' blinded by lights and lasers. Oh, and what's up with being blinded by flash lights in broad day light, while standing out in the sun??? Anyone else catch that?? Overall though, battlefield 3 is quite an enjoyable game besides the campaign and coop. As a matter of fact, I can't bring myself to keep playing the same old boring coop rounds over and over again in order to unlock all those weapons. The only one of them that really seems worth it anyway was the rex. Apart from that, I've already pulled several hours out of the game, and still have yet to make a dent in the amount of weapons, gadgets, perks, and vehicle unlocks their are in this game. So i'm knocking off half a point for each of the issues that I have with it. -0.5 for bullet drop on non-snip weapons(not realistic), -0.5 for sites and accuracy of weapons(not realistic), -0.5 for a short campaign(though it's suprising to me for a battlefield to even have a campaign), -0.5 for the weak at best coop. Overall 8. I enjoy it quite a bit, and with the back to karkand map pack we're not only getting 4 new maps, but 3 new vehicles(probably tied specifically to these maps), and 10 new weapons. Lets just hope they bring back the sip line from the battlefield 2 expansion. That would put a whole new twist on a game like this.

The campaign may need polish, but it does a good job of showing off the engines dynamic lighting and cosmetic damage. The multiplayer is a great experience and free dlc with the limited addition doesn't hurt either. The co-op lacks depth, but its still a fun playthrough with a friend and overall the game is worth its price. The characters are annoying, and this makes for an unimaginable and frustrating story that will turn off even the most diehard Battlefield fans. But, that's not what makes Battlefield is it? The multiplayer returns, following almost identically to Bad Company 2 in almost every facet. From the game modes, to the weapon sounds, this game does everything identical to BC2. The game does feel fresh though, upgraded with a new graphics engine and a new destruction engine. The game does impress in more than one way online, especially when it comes to the combat. The jets and tanks make a triumphant comeback and manages to be quite balanced for the online warfare. The destruction engine holds up well online, but not close to the standard that is in the single-player. At times, the game can feel unbalanced and spotty. The destruction engine seems to work at times, and refuses to work at others. The destruction engine also causes glitches and awkward deaths following combat. The game is good and it manages to stay fresh, even though the similarities with its predecessor being obvious. Not a bad game, and I would recommend it to anyone; especially the online. It's mainly multiplayer that will decide what game is played more. I'm not going to talk much about Call of Duty and from what I have played it's about average. The multiplayer feels very uninspired, I feel they have been milking the same cow from Modern Warfare. The last game I played was Modern Warfare 2, and it felt the same, but less.... fun? I was a huge fan of Modern Warfare, let me say, and I played it to death. I never bought Black Ops and have never heard any great praise for it. But this is a Battlefield review, so let's move on. When I heard about Battlefield for the first time, I was sitting in a Modern Warfare game, and my friend in the party was giving major acclaim to Battlefield Bad Company 2. I said "Meh." and moved on. After awhile I bought Bad Company 2. And I fell in love. With multiplayer. The campaign was hard to get into, but I was playing live so I didn't care. When Battlefield 3 came out, all of the signs of a fan-boy came out. But I'm not writing it like that. I know it has flaws. So my first impression while playing after the first day I had it was good. It had the Battlefield feel to it, it was very beautiful. The controls felt smooth, not as hectic and jerky as Call of Duty, but still fast paced in it's own special way. I played with my friend and we would talk and make strategy. It was a great time. But I have a beef with this game. Two of the classes are very over powered. Support and Engineer. RPGs flying around my head constantly is very annoying. And when they stand over a ammo drop, hey look.... unlimited rockets flying around. Not fun. I love the game, but sometimes I feel encumbered by reaction times. There is also way to much dead space in the maps. It works for the PC because of the ability of more players in a match, but not here. Once you get into the action though, you feel that sense of urgency. Al the lighting effects add to the feel, and it makes you feel immersed into the game. It has it's ups and downs. I love this game, but it gets on my nerves sometimes. Expand

Unfortunately the beta was flush with quirks and problems giving many people a very bad opinion of a game that hadn't been released yet. Well I'm happy to say the real game is NOTHING like the Beta. IMO they never should have released that Beta. The campaign is just "OK", the multiplayer is very engaging. I used to be a Call of Duty fan but that series is so stale and recycled, this game is a breath of fresh air. I also notice that younger gamers tend to lean toward Call of Duty while Battlefield tends to attract older gamers which I appreciate. I'm very happy with my purchase. This game definitely pushes the limits of what these old game consoles can do. I believe Battlefield 3 is the reality check that game developers can now produce better software than the hardware can handle and it's time for Microsoft to release a new Xbox. Expand

Good Campaign but sincerely needs to show a new user how the hell to use the vehicles ie. Training Mode for dumb blind people with 1 arm.

Somewhat dissapointed with the fighter jet scene whereby I wasn't given the keys to a joyride!

Now - on to the review - My expectations were that this was going to be an upgrade over BFBC2 so I had my hopes up that this would be a bit better. Once I jumped into the game I soon realized that the developer and publisher both over delivered and under promised... I dont think they hyped this thing enough. Gameplay and Maps and Guns and Team Play are simply amazing, I found myself just literally running to areas of the map just to view it from a distance and watch the battle unfold beneath and around me. This game is TEAM oriented and if you come into it trying to play it as you would COD - where 1 person can hollywood it up - your going to get your ass handed to you. BF3 is about team work and objective oriented battle. Not going to go into alot of details as the game will stand on its own for a LONG time, much longer replay value here than MW3 will hope to have. Will just finish with this. Jets, Helicopters, Tanks, Jeeps, Bradleys, Infantry, Boats, and on and on.. Game is FANTASTIC

Not impressed at all! EA servers rubbish as usual and the maps are too big for just 24 players. The story is short and massively boring. A lot of fuss over nothing. OK, the campaign is NOT something you'd ever buy a BF title for, but the MP is no great shakes either. However, it fairs slightly better than MW3, but not by much. As with MW3, a waste of cash IMHO, so I'll be looking to trade when something decent comes out. A bargain basement buy at least.

They have been worlking on them and making them better but the point of the beta was to fix that so they dropped the ball there. Now for all the **** they got right which would be the best multiplayer I have play in sometime. The key to winning is not run out by yourself but using the group to push up and take hold of you enemy, just as I think you would on a real battlefield. The fact that you can now not just speak with your squad but the whole as to tell different squads to watch out or move up adds tons to game play. The jets in air warfare with the helicopters is just amazing also adds to the overall feel of a real battlefield. The fact that they made the controls in a helicopter feel more real helps to keep the bull**** for BC2 from happening I enjoy too. All the addons for guns and vehicles make for interesting game play and the future looks good for the game. The first addon to the game come in December which is 4 new maps, 10 guns, 3 new vehicles also this is free if you bought the game new now like gears3 or mw3 which will ass rape you about 800 msps per 3 map packs. This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. The multiplayer is great. Perhaps a bit chaotic, but still fun. It's no the same of COD, but its difference makes it enjoyable. So relative high marks go to the multiplayer. The loss in points comes from the single player campaign. It's short, a few hours short. With the Co-op potion, you gain another hour or so depending on difficulty, but I was promised an extensive Campaign and it fell short. There are also a half dozen quicktime interactions that seem plastered on. They're clunky and the button pressing doesn't correspond with on screen action in the dynamic rewarding fashion of comparable FPS's. Further, the vehicle portions we confining and not as enjoyable as promised. The fighter portion, you don't even have the opportunity to fly. You fire missiles and do a watered down lasing segment that's no where near as enjoyable as COD's AC130 missions. The tank missions, save the final segement through the city, lacks character. There are highlights, such as the beginning mission and the sniper mission, but these cannot eclipse the nonsense turns in the plot. For the FPS that boasts closeness with reality, there are some things that are unforgivable. One is committing an act of war on Russia by attacking a division of Russian troops with an underequipt and weaker force. The second is an American soldier murdering his CO to help a Russian he met seconds before. It's just nutty. And for that, not the multiplayer in any way, the score is much lower than it should have been. Expand

I'm a fairly new follower to Metacritic, and I've learned that almost all user reviews have to be ignored completely. It is clear that some reviews are from fanboys (either Battlefield or COD), and some reviews are just maybe pre-teen emotions getting the best of some of the younger gamers.

The first thing that I feel needs to be cleared up is that this game and COD are not, nor should they ever be, the same game. I love both of these games, but I go to one or the other depending on what gameplay I'm looking for. Full disclosure: I've only been playing Battlefield since BFBC2, but I absolutely LOVED that game. I can honestly say that if you liked that gameplay, chances are you'll like BF3.

The singleplayer is nothing to wrie home about, but it's a decent time killer for when your looking for a break from multiplayer. The biggest let down or me was the fact that the story happens post-earthquake so none of the environments are entact...just rubble. Let me say this, though...if you're looking to get a game soley on the single player campain...PASS...it's not worth it.

I have to admit that I was somewhat disapointed with the Frostbite 2 engine. I was expecting there to be a larger number of destructable portions of the environment, but that is not a game-changer in my book. For the 360, this is one of the best looking games you'll find. The lighting and sound is fantastic. If you crank up your system, you'll feel like your right there in the action.

Some of the changes that I've noticed affect my gameplay are the alterations made to the classes. I never really used the Assault class much in BC2, but I've noticed I tend to use it (or Engineer) in BF3 due to the fact they switched the medic portion from support to assault. I thought the fact that snipers can now go prone would bother me, but it is countered by the reflection of light that gives you a heads up of where the fire is coming from.

Overall, this game is fantastic...and I HATED the beta. But here is my nota bene: If you are looking for COD style multiplayer...this game is not for you. If you're looking for a strategy based FPS that thrives on teamwork and isn't kill driven, then BF3 will scratch you right where you itch.

I would rate this game an 8.5, but I rounded to 9 because I really do feel the multiplayer is so polished it deserves more of a 9 than an 8.

The only thing really keeping it afloat are the great graphics and sound to make it a lively experience. The story is throwaway, and some of the levels (most notably the jet level) end up disappointing. You hop in a jet expecting to fly around, but ends up being an on rails shooter. Many periods with little game interaction. It was not all bad though, the tank level was cool, as well as other exciting moments, but they fail to dispel the stale aura the whole thing has. Also, why no jet practice outside of hopping on a server, and praying you don't get shot down while you figure out how to fly the damn thing? With something with such a steep learning curve, you'd think they'd add someway to practice this. Expand

This Battlefield, like others before it, takes patience to figure out and grow into. It's not the streamlined COD experience that rewards lone-wolf play, and as a result it takes a while to learn how to play the right way.

Note: Upon launch I was disappointed with a little rubber banding and lag, but most every bug has been addressed and the game has been quite smooth.

The multiplayer really shines through in battlefield 3, Although the single player was lacking, who really cares? The addictive, epic and all out war feeling is outstanding, the sound is great the graphics are amazing and the gameplay is solid. This is the ultimate shooter to play with friends. I give this a 9.5 out of 10 on the PC.

My comments relate only to the single player game. I'm new to this series; it'll be my last. I felt like a bullet magnet. Friendly NPCs stand in the open in front of me. I stand up behind cover and get drilled while they are not hit. Where's the logic in that? The campaign is way too short. It's trade-in time for this one.

This game makes Call of Duty feel very claustrophobic, but is a very different game. BF3 rewards players for teamwork and patience, you wont have the same kill counts as you do in COD, but you should have a lot more fun. As other reviewers have said they have encountered problems with servers, that always happens in the beginning, EA/DICE don't seem to be prepared enough to cope with the amount of online players at once. The multiplayer: It's filled with mix feelings. The servers are poorly maintained. The hit detection can be off at times if not rendered useless when you start shooting blanks at an enemy. Enjoy the destruction but it's no where near the BFBC 2 level of destruction. This game is not worth $60. Save yourself some money and buy the multiplayer for 20 bucks off some one and the EA vip pass for $10 dollars more.

I know it doesn't look like on a high-end PC platform, but hey... who can spend ~900 bucks on his gaming rig to enjoy all of that beauty? Not me.
I prefer steady (well mostly) 30 fps on the console, pad in my hand (well except aming with the stick) and beer on the side :)

A must buy for all BF fans and people who prefer a bit more serious online play.

Battlefield 3, oh Battlefield 3. One of the most anticipated games of 2011, with the ultimate goal of killing the popular Call of Duty series. Did DICE achieve that goal? I don't think they did. Sure, the multiplayer is incredibly awesome and addicting, but the Campaign and Co-op just really ruin the overall game. I'm not even sure why DICE even bothered to waste their time with addingBattlefield 3, oh Battlefield 3. Sure, the multiplayer is incredibly awesome and addicting, but the Campaign and Co-op just really ruin the overall game. I'm not even sure why DICE even bothered to waste their time with adding that stuff in, they're not story tellers. The Campaign is extremely boring, and is a chore to play. I don't even know if I'll ever finish it, because it's not even worth finishing. DICE's attempt at making an enjoyable Co-op experience failed. It's not quite as boring as the campaign, but still bad enough to make me not even complete the last two missions I haven't played yet. So by now you may be wondering why I didn't give this game a 1 or 2. The reason why is because 1.) The game is one of the best looking and sounding on a console. 2.) It's gameplay is super smooth and awesome. And 3.) The game's multiplayer is one of the best experiences I've played in a long, long time. It's definitely lived up to my expectations, and is the ONLY thing keeping this game afloat. I find it 10x more fun then Call of Duty's repetitive multiplayer. DICE couldn't of done a better job with it, and that is the sole reason why this game gets a positive score from me. If you're looking for a game with an incredible multiplayer, BUY THIS GAME. Just don't touch the second disk (Campaign). I hope this review helped those of you who are still thinking about buying this game. Expand

Multiplayer- the main thing for me is that the maps feel like they were designed for big 64 player PC battles. On XBox it feels a little slow and uninspiring with so few players per map. Player movement is also slightly sluggish- with less customisation, the inability to leave a table at the end of the match and some early server issues proving to be frustrating. For BFBC2 fans, expect less destructibility and (IMO) graphics too..

Multiplayer can still be fun, however it just doesn't seem like it has a lot of long term appeal.

All in all I would recommend to hire before you buy, and also to try the PC version in lieu of the console version(s).

This is quite a poor effort from Dice / EA, a franchise low for Battlefield. I have been a battlefield fan since 2 and I thoroughly enjoyed 2142, Modern Combat and Bad Company series. But I am not reviewing this game from the point of a COD fanboy, just some one who enjoys both series. I am also going to talk about the graphics everybody knows its a great looking game. Firstly, I must address the campaign, which is the most lifeless and linear modern war shooter I have ever played. If you expect ''battlefields'' look elsewhere as levels are progressed via a very restrictive follow the leader type design, there is no room for dynamic action or combat scenarios. The level openers and enders may have a few cool scripted sequences and set pieces, (none lasting longer than 10 seconds) but the actual gameplay is void of anything exciting and engaging. Speaking of set pieces, I feel this just doesn't compare to the way games like Uncharted and Gears of War incorporate set pieces into the gameplay. Its not just something to look at in the background, but there are entire 10 minute levels in those games that compete with the biggest most impressive set pieces seen in blockbuster movies. 4/10 for SP.

The multiplayer portion of the game is designed better and more faithful the to title. If you enjoyed Battlefield 2, you will feel right at home with this game, its very similar in design, modes and map design. The main new featured are jets, disabling vehicles which that the turrets will work even if the wheels wont, more sophisticated and realistic lighting and enhanced squad abilities. The main drawback however, are the maps, especially the larger ones, which are more barren, less vertical and feature less destruction, which means matches especially on conquest game modes are slower than usual. This means firefights are never quite as fun as they could be. Overall, its great but not much of a sequel to Battlefield 2 or even Bad Comany 2. 8/10 for MP.

This is purely based on the variety of gameplay at your disposal, whether it be flying a jet, driving a tank or being a soldier each experience is completely different. As with every major BF release there have been many problems with the servers, to a point where the game is unplayable.

BF3 still feels unpolished, and there are numerous bugs that I could write a novel about.

Bottom line is, this game tries to cater for a broader audience and in the process alienating the core fans, people who play their games for years after the release.

Extremely disappointed. But maybe, just maybe, with a couple patches this 4 could turn into an 7.

While Battlefield 3 was aiming to be the biggest name this holiday season, and while it has made strides towards knocking off Modern Warfare 3, it misses the mark. That's not to say it is a bad game, it's a very good one, but the polish and excitement that is found on the Call of Duty series feels missing here. Still, there are much worse games you could end up with this holiday season, and the competition between the two series should heat up significantly in the next few years.

This experience alone sums up what Battlefield 3 is about. It isn't a John Rambo run and gun shooter and it shouldn't really be compared to MW3 in terms of how you play it. For players to truly understand the Battlefield experience you need to embrace the teamwork by joining a squad and calling out your spotted enemies, as after all, sometimes you also need your back covered too.
