The story is rich and gets me more invested than BOTW ever did. And despite using the same map, enough changes are made that it actually feels refreshing and exciting to explore Hyrule again. For once it actually feels like a game developer took in our criticism and actually worked to improve on it. Definitely a nominee for GOTY. A must play. Expand

What an banger! Nintendo did it once again, a game that truely supprise on every corner. Tears of the Kingdom is Breath of the Wild on steroides, more like that. You now have the Sky above Hyrule, the Ground and the Underground to explore, with tons of new things, that will attract your attention. The "ground" overworld itself is even changed enough not to bore experienced players of the predecessor.

The build mechanic is very fresh and is very much used for puzzles and for exploration. The Fuze mechanic make the weapon break system no longer bad.

Conclusion: If you even loved the predecessor, this game is a must have! If you missed story and dungeons in the predecessor its very likely that you maybe like this game. If you absolutely hate Open World games or the way that Zelda went with BotW you maybe shouldnt buy it.
For me a 10/10, one of the best videogames Ive ever played.

Amazing themed dungeons have returned with varied enemies and imaginative riddles, few big surprises that I will not spoil here and are best discovered by yourself. Please consider the huge improvement with the multiple maps: sky map, hyrule map and the dark mysterious underground map dat gives chills and goosebumps every time you enter it.
I must emphasize, the mechanics are a work of incredible technical creativity and effort. Tears of the kingdom is levels beyond any game I have played to this day. This is the Epic adventure of a hero we have been waiting for, the definitive game.

This a game which actively punishes you for trying to have fun with it's cumbersome ultra hand controls, excessive menuing and the same weapon durability from BOTW. Even if you make something cool with the new ultra hand it will last a few seconds at most. Good for viral clips, but not an actual game.
Overall, a VERY samey sequel that does nothing exciting nor addresses a single problem

Yes it is somewhat lime BOTW, but is so much better. The puzzles are very clever, there are a bunch of things to discover, the story is far better than the first game, the combat with fuse makes everything you get useful in many ocassions. Masterpiece.

Cons: no PT-BR subtitles, which is a shame since Brazil is one of the largest countries in gaming, many Zelda fans in here.

Not as good as expected. The positive pint is the fact that you can be creative as your imagination allows you, but Nintendo must learn that the technology evolves and power full hardware is needed. Plus there are some “hidden” messages about religion that can be disrespectful with some people. But, well, as a video game, the game is awkward and feels laggy and blurry.

The bosses are wonderful, exploring the underground and the sky I love, and Link's new abilities make the game experience something unique, I love the ultrahand ability because with it I can create many things, I could even create a robot that chases enemies!

One of the greatest games of all time. People saying that Nintendo are just using the same map seem to forget the over 400 caves, sky islands, and depths which is a completely full sized 2nd map underneath Hyrule. Is it marketing and hype or just reviews from gamers who have no idea what the Zelda names means? In all fairness, if this game was called Adventure Island instead, it would be a hit. However, Nintendo opted to go with the franchise name, Zelda. How is this a Zelda game? There is no tri-force, no dungeons that store special items that help progress the adventure. Heck, where is the adventure at all honestly? You will find yourself walking around an empty world absent of color or life while you cook random things and fuse random objects together like this was an incredible machine. You will be swinging tree branches or shoot arrows with items that break after a few uses. Constantly fighting camera angles and wondering to yourself, what am I doing and why? Better than Breath of the Wild - Yes. A true successor to the Zelda Franchise - Not even close. Nintendo could of make this the most amazing Zelda adventure to date with their open world, but fell flat on their face. Maybe they assume gamers today are not capable of going on adventures where you must locate hidden dungeons that hold secrets, maybe they do need huge stars on minimaps that say GO HERE. None the less, for those who do enjoy cooking and fusing stuff together, fighting the same 8 monsters, defeating shrine after mindless shrine or just like to play games with no failure, then go for it, you will like it. However, for those older fans who remember what Zelda really stood for and the epic adventures that came before us, do not waste your time or money. I'd like to say Nintendo will get it right eventually, but lets be honest, they are done. We will never see another great Zelda game, so lets just hope they port Windwaker over to Switch sometime soon. RIP Zelda. Expand

One minute wasted for no reason. Why must something that should take 2 seconds within the menu itself take 30 seconds of awkward repetitive motions? Baffling. You can tell Miyamoto is not involved in the development of Nintendo games and busy with theme parks and movies these days, something like this would have never gotten past him.

After a few hours, after the same repetitive enemy camp, the same cave with a million useless trinkets to collect, and yet another minute wasted attaching some piece of junk to a rusted sword, I dropped the game. I already work all week, playing a game that feels like work is not a fun way to pass the free time.

No doubt this game can offer moments of absolute emergent brilliance, I'm just not willing to wade through hours of tedium to get to them.

It also neglects to give the player a sense of direction, by deliberately leaving out developer-placed map markers, meaning if you can't see something you would have no idea something is even there; not great, for a huge open-world game with multiple layers.
This game is a 6/10 at most, not 9, and definitely not a 10 - it's way too flawed for that.

If weapons and shields were significantly more durable, and there were ways to repair damaged equipment, then that wouldn't be as much of an issue - just look at Minecraft, which is also an open-world game with stamina, breakable equipment, and zero direction given (even less than BotW/TotK), but wisely gives its equipment more than a hundred uses each, and even then has the Unbreaking enchantment to reduce the chance of durability loss, the Mending enchantment to auto-repair the equipment piece with it by absorbing EXP, and multiple ways to straight-up repair equipment (combine the same two tools in the 4x4 inventory grid, at the cost of all enchantments, or the Anvil to repair with the same type of resource [iron armour requires iron ingots, for example] or combine the same two equipment pieces and keep enchantments).
That's way more player-friendly than what BotW and TotK offer, where every weapon and shield you find just feels like disposable trash that WILL break after a mere handful of uses, sucking the excitement out of earning powerful gear from defeating tough foes, or making your way to secret areas.

As for stamina...face it, the game would work _just as well_ without this unnecessary green wheel. Sure, it can be upgraded to last longer, but that's just delaying how long you have before you're forced to slow down and wait for it to refill. This makes exploring this huge, multi-layered land even more tedious, for no benefit.
It's telling when other open-world games, such as Assassin's Creed and Ghost of Tsushima, don't even bother with stamina, allowing the player to rush around their large worlds however they damn well please with no need to slow down and wait.

Open-world games are already massive time-sinks; this one didn't need to be artificially lengthened further by forcing the player to grind rare resources, or wander this massive multi-layered world without an adequate number of map markers to guide them. That's just needless padding for padding's sake, and serves as a major turn-off for time-poor players (which is a large proportion of the adult customer base, and likely a large number of children too these days) as well as players without much patience.

Due to all of this, TotK just doesn't deserve 9s or 10s when it's far from perfect or ideal; at the most, it's 6/10 and easily skippable. If you've already trudged and suffered through BotW, this is largely more of the same tedious crap.

Usually when you get older your favorite games are the ones that you played as a kid. This usually has to do with nostalgia. But when I played BOTW in 2017 I experienced one if not my favorite game at the time.
TOTK builds upon that foundation and makes it even better. The story is a lot better and I was amazed at how good the game starts. The abilities this time around are so much better

No one's here to read a college thesis, so I'll knock this one out, good/bad/ugly style (ugly being things that I wasn't a fan of but that don't affect the overall score).

    The Good:
-if you liked BOTW, you'll be happy to know all of its mechanics have essentially returned.
-the new runes are mostly pretty good and shake up exploration in inventive ways.
-the remixed overworld isn't perfect, but I am willing to admit they did more than I expected them to.
-the new areas are pretty cool. Spelunking is really fun.
-the dungeons, as the game calls them, are generally a big improvement on the Divine Beasts.

    The Bad:
-if there were aspects of BOTW you didn't like, you'll be disappointed to know that every single core mechanic has returned.
-using Ultrahand for building (it has other uses, which are fine) sucks. Stray from what the game *wants* you to make and it will rarely ever work. Just make bridges. They're funny and they actually work.
-while it doesn't come into play often, there are parts of the world where it's very clear the game wasn't built with your toolset in mind. (hint: because it was built for BOTW's toolset)
-the story is almost laughably bad. Same minimalistic approach as BOTW but with a far worse script. Ganondorf deserved better.

    The Ugly:
-no matter what the game calls them, these still aren't dungeons as Zelda fans know them. The Divine Beasts weren't terrible, but they left me feeling hungry for something better. Dungeons in this game are basically the Divine Beasts without the control mechanism. They are generally better, though.
-they took whistle-sprinting out. While it was a glitch and did need to be removed, it was really handy for getting around quickly. Having nothing replace it is really unfortunate.

Overall a fun game, but six years and $70 is a big ask for what we ultimately ended up getting, which largely does play like an DLC rather than a proper sequel. Not in terms of scope (the game definitely has scope), but in terms of what the game actually is.

Tears of the Kingdom is another massively overrated Nintendo game but, this time, is even worse, because it's basically DLC that recycles the same map with additional barren areas. This sequel is the same thing but more expensive. Weapons still break like glass and the UI still is a nightmare that you have to deal with constantly during the action. The story is hollow and pointless and the NPC and side quests are all boring. The game is not really a The Legend of Zelda game but an indie sandbox game like Breath of the Wild but with more sandbox elements like fusion, limited and boring vehicle building and so on. The "dungeons" that are mentioned by the critics that say that this game is a masterpiece are even worse than in the prequel. The music is still minimal and also recycled and the graphics are ever worse with worse performance. Gameplay is boring and frustrating and story is bare-bones. Let's be real, what would the score be if this game wasn't made by Nintendo and the critics were impartial and professional? Tears of the Kingdom is shamelessly overrated just like Breath of the Wild. I am a Zelda fan and these two games aren't what I consider Zelda games and are not masterpieces either. There is no doubt on my mind that Nintendo has influenced the critics and that their fans are defending things that they wouldn't defend if the games were made by another company. Expand

M y score is a 7.5 . This is a Great game that is sadly deeply flawed like botw and doesnt quite live up to much of its potential.

From a technical standpoint this game is very impressive with how everything looks and runs. The artstlye isnt my cup of Tee but its unique.

This games brings back shrines and they are much like in botw. Most of them are great and fun but there is one gigantic flaw with them. They all look the same. Something as simple has giving us different shrine themes in different Regions would have really helped from them eventually feeling stale.

Sadly this games biggest flaw is enemy veriety . They added maybe 4 new enemys and 3 new minibosses. Its baffling that for a game this gigantic it has so few enemys. Becouse of this flaw , combat get stale after a while when youre only fighting the same enemys over and over again. This is a gigantic flaw and makes me take away 1 and a half points.

The caves in this game are really well designed and funt to play but yet again they suffer from little veriety. they all have the same enemys and goals. finding satori frogs and finding shrines. It would have been so much more exciting exploring the caves if there were unexpected minibosses or enemys or the shrines themselves had unique different themes.

Overall the Overworld of hyrule just feels too samy to botw with exeptions of caves. Age of calamity showed the potential of how they could change the map like having rebuilt ruins or a rebuilt hyrule castle but much of the game just feels like they only aded sky dabree.

Speaking of the sky , what a disapointment. The opening Skypllateu is amazing but otherwise there is very little to do in the sky. The skyislands feel like an afterthought that they mostly used for marketing. The underground in this game is just as big as the base botw map but is very empty. Its frustrating becouse it has an extremely cool astetic and atmosphere and the Idea of that you cant see anything and constantly need seeds and checkpoints too light up the map is really cool... but most of the time thats the only thing youre doing. There is a really cool lengthy side adventure in the underground but other then that most of the underground is just walking around and sometimes finde patents or costumes.

The dungeons in this game are a big mixed bag. On the one hand they fixed botw biggest issue with the dungeons having destinct themes this time around. on the other the dungeons design itselft just isnt as good as in the old 3 zelda games. I think the five terminal sytem really limits the potential of these dungens and that you can solve the puzzles in any order you want. The puzzles are fun but easy. Now the gameplay segment leading up to these dungeons are fantastic and really fun. They give me my zelda dngeons fix but not they just dont reach the highs of the dungeons in twighlight princess , Skyward Sword , Oot. The bosses on the other hand are fantastic and this game has some of the best and most creative bosses in the franchise. And this game has arguably the best ending and final boss in the entire series so thats a humongus step up from botw.

The story in this game is frustrating. This game has imo the best opening and ending to any zelda game however just like in botw the story is told through memorys and it just cuts any tention the story could have had because its not really relevant to what you are doing at the present moments. The cutscenes are fantastic and add alot to the zelda lore but it would have been so much more effective if it would have been told in the present and in a linear fassion.

The new fuse mechanic is incredible but it feels like Nintendo spent much more development time on the new mechanics then everything else. I feel like the game would have felt alot better if it came out 3 or 4 years after botw but after 6 years it feels like this game has so much wasted potential. My biggest fear was that this game just eels like dlc and sadly atleast for me , it does just feel like really big dlc most of the time.

How does having upgraded versions of shrines that actually take the fuse abilities in unique and creative ways have anything to do with whether or not a game is good or not?

Shouldn't it be about whether or not you are enjoying yourself playing the game and how

Shouldn't it be about whether or not you are enjoying yourself playing the game and how much you are enjoying it? The review bombing "reasons" have little to do with how much you give a score something. I base my score on how much I enjoyed the game. Of course if you didn't like breath of the wild, you really shouldn't have bought Tears of the Kingdom. And if you did like breath of the wild, how is improving on what's already there and adding new enemies, features, music etc a bad thing? Whether or not it's worth 70 dollars is a different topic entirely, and shouldn't be a factor in a games score. Money has nothing to do with whether or not you gave a game a 0 or a 10. Like literally nothing.

Anyways rant over, Loving this game 9.5/10 for me.

Mal sabíamos que The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild era uma Tech Demo para The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom.

As novas mecânicas, a história do jogo e a mesma sensação de liberdade que senti em Breath of the Wild.

Assim como Zelda: Breath of the Wild, Tears of the Kingdom é gigantesco, grandioso, excessivo e imenso. Pega todas as qualidades de Breath of the Wild e soma, multiplica e potencializa o mundo de Hyrule.

Da mesma forma que, Breath of the Wild mudou a fórmula de mundo aberto, Tears of the Kingdom mudou a fórmula de Breath of the Wild.

You can attach things together in order to build litterally anything, like a simple bridge or even more complex constructions like a flying car that can shoot the enemies. The new Fuse ability lets you combine weapons with every material you can see; trees, rocks, machines, and even other weapons! The variety is incredible and that makes battle a lot better: in the previous game you were likely not going to engage a battle if you could because that would have consumed your weapons, but with fuse you are pretty much always rewarded for killing an enemy, you can in fact you can use the drop to repair your weapons. The ascend ability makes you able to pass through ceiling and floors, which is very usefull to quickly climb mountains if there is a cave in it or to surprise the enemies in their own bases. Lastly there is the recall ability. Recall works as a rewind that sends an object back in time, retracing its movements and returning it to the state and place it was some seconds before. The story is beautyfull and a lot better than the previous game. The world is HUGE and filled with things to do, you can really feel the care for the details. It is almost 3 times bigger than the Hyrule of The Legend of Zelda Breath of the wild. The game is full of things to do and i really loved the freedom the player has, if you like adventure games and the use of creativity this is a must play. Expand

Spectacular game. The open world is dense and full of stuff to do, great dungeons and bosses. Combat is fun as hell and the story made me tear up multiple times. Truly a worthy sequel to BOTW

Anything when compared to Breath of the wild seems mediocre, it got so much right and so little wrong. When I played it I had one thought on my mind 'this is the greatest game of all time.' I was wrong, nintendo managed to top themselves yet again and created a true masterpiece. Tears of the kingdom is the greatest game I have ever played and as with all good things it starts off great.

The tutorial stage of the game has managed to keep the exploratory feel of the Great Plateu from breath of the wild and reinvented it whilst also managing to seamlessly integrate the storytelling elements and thus creating an intrigue that lasts throughout it all. I have nothing other to say than thst it is completely stunning and absolutely perfect.

I wasn't sure how Nintendo would find a way to top their work in Breath of the Wild back when it came out, but I feel they have here – with years of more polish applied and refined exploration. [Issue #66 – July/August 2023, p. 71]

The good thing is that, thanks to the limited possibilities, the creators couldn't go crazy and swing for hundreds of game miles. Instead, they created what could be called Elden Ring in a travel pack. [Issue#328]

The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom has lived up to the high expectations created by the success of Breath of the Wild with its exquisitely intertwined gameplay systems, outstanding music, and a legendary story culminating in a magnificent denouement. It's not every day that such a special video game like this comes around. Truly the stuff of legend.
