This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. I had the honor to receive (certainly by mistake), the game in advance. This game is in the perfect continuity of its predecessor, although it has kept some defects. Let's start with the latter.
One of the main flaws that I decided to mention for this review is the dungeons. This is a point where I expected an evolution from Nintendo with a new way of conceiving them. In spite of these expectations from me and also from the players, I still find them too close to what was done in Breath of the Wild, that is to say structures with 4 or 5 points to activate in order to reach the boss. In the previous Zelda games, each dungeon varied and was solved in a different way, which brought a great originality to each of them. Here, the only nice thing about the dungeons is the environment that varies each time and the theme of each of them, involving in this the bosses for which Nintendo has made an effort. In short, Nintendo didn't put as much effort into the construction of the dungeons as one would expect, and the way of solving them would be different from BOTW.
Other minor technical flaws including slowdowns (probably because I only had access to 1.0.0 during my session) are present and will require a patch but did not spoil my gaming experience.
As for the qualities of this Zelda, as usual in the games of this series, Nintedo has provided us with a game of very high quality, putting even its predecessor at the rank of prototype despite the revolution it brought. The narration is much better with an excellent scenario. On this point, Nintendo has listened very well to the players. I was also satisfied with the soundtrack, with the reworking of some of the themes you could hear in BOTW. The construction system is very well integrated in the game and is well brought in the story (a whole tutorial area is dedicated to the mastery of it), the new powers are also excellent. Nintendo has, on this point, kept the best of BOTW to make something much more advanced, which gives a gameplay that can vary to the extreme.

In short, Zelda Tears of the Kingdom is a game that I recommend to those who are looking for an excellent game that pushes its concept to the end. I could talk about many other qualities but not all of them come to mind as I write.

this game is really good play its worth 60 dollars, its botw but on methamphetamine with creative mechanics beginner friendly (incredibly good tutorial explaining mechanics super well) while also allowing veterans of botw to have a challenging game overall, game good :)

The game recreates that whimsical Zelda Adventure and sense of wonder. Hands down better than Horizon Forbidden West, which is a great game in its own right.

It has the same Broken and Archaic Control Scheme from BOTW, and a poor Frame Rate. I've experienced climbing walls during fights by mistake due to the stiff movement with target lock, & the shield not blocking correctly while target locked on an enemy above me.

I've gotten to a point where I don't want to play it due to these problems.

This game is exactly what a sequel should be like. Everybody who complains that it's just like Breath Of The Wild... there was more than enough official information and gameplay footage months before release. What did you expect?

The new mechanics are great and unique, the possibilities for creativity are almost endless. One can tell that the developers have put a lot of love and heart

The new mechanics are great and unique, the possibilities for creativity are almost endless. One can tell that the developers have put a lot of love and heart into every detail. The new world is amazing and makes you want to explore it further, especially with the new abilities which make the old ones look boring. What's not boring is the new, changed Hyrule. It's based on the old map (with many changes), but that's just the "ground level Hyrule". Without spoiling too much... there are new areas, and they're BIG and full of things new to explore.

If this game didn't meet your expectations, that's on you. But you can't deny that the game was made with care and passion. The way I like to play games, I already see myself putting an unholy amount of time into this gem.

    Thank you, Nintendo

I was wrong. TOTK is a masterpiece. All I can say is go play it, experience it for yourself. If you loved BOTW as much as I did, oh boy, hope you have an extra 500 hours to spare.

All of these combine to make Tears of the Kingdom immediately one of the most amazing games I've ever played.

Unfortunately, on its native hardware there are plenty of framedrops during normal gameplay and people used to 4k 60fps resolution will be disappointed. Performance is the only reason I won't give TotK a 10/10.

Expand

Additionally the idea that this game is botw 1.5 is ridiculous. First of all its a sequel so it’s going to use existing characters.

Theres a fully new areas and the overworld has changed enough where the sense off discovery is still there.

*3rd time posting, keep getting deleted

Nintendo was once the most powerful console in the market back in the N64 days when Ocarina of Time blew everything out the water and was like nothing seen before.
The playstation 1 was actually the cheap alternative.

Since then the benefit of the doubt has been given to Nintendo for the past 20 years for failing to produce current gen quality gaming while keeping current gen quality price tags

But now that they've moved into movie making and people are able to watch Super Mario in 4k UHD breaking box office records and making a massive profit for the company it begs the question why they don't bother giving their consoles and games the same treatment.

The excuse used to be well they took risks with GameCube and don't have the means and we need to stay loyal
Then with the Wii it was well they're trying something different, trying to bring it back to its roots.

And this is Nintendo's strategy for exploiting hungry fans and giving them lacklustre releases out of beloved IPs, by appearing to be the constant underdog that needs defending when actually they're the bullies of the industry raking in a lot of profit not going towards game making.
(See Reggie threatening leakers with quotes from 'Taken' movie, reviewers being blacklisted etc)

So here we are three decades later with a game that is basically a Dlc of the previous, with next to no story, an empty hollow campaign that reads more like a Zelda mod for Minecraft than anything

At 900p, 30fps, on a 10 year out of date engine with GameCube graphics that if you chose to can be completed in an hour sold for $70.

Imagine if Ocarina of Time was released with Atari graphics, SNES gameplay and instead of needing to grow up, or see hyrule descend into chaos or complete the 8 temples to get to Ganon at any point you could just walk to hyrule castle and have the credits roll, do some building to pass the time in between.

Would it have won awards and been regarded as a masterpiece?

    No

And if this game at 30fps 900p GameCube graphics, 10 year old engine, can be completed in an hour with only really 5 real temples to do was on the Xbox say modded to be a Halo game Would critics call it Game of the year?

And maybe if the mess that is Redfall had been modded to look like Mario and sold on Nintendo it would be hailed as a masterpiece

Nintendo has gotten off easy for far too long, been half assed and lazy relying solely on fans loyalty and critics' not wanting to upset them for far too long.

The franchise died with Twilight Princess
They just decided after skyward sword to wait it out, and rebrand it to a new generation of zoomers who don't care for story, don't care about the campaign, don't care about a chain of temples and things you need to do to be able to get to the end, who don't care about three decades of video game history and its legacy
They just want to run around making giant wooden statues with p***** and live stream their excitement pretending to be diehard fans

While the OG ones are shoved under a bus.

This is the Dragonball Super of video games.

The prime period has long gone, and the new fans despise it/can't play it

And what we have left is barely recognisable, nonsensical, pointless, overly complicated, strung out mess, with barely any plot that's the IP in name only.

And the funniest thing? When Nintendo decides to make a movie of it, it's going to be in 4k UHD and bring back all the original references like the Mario one. To then return home to another cheap Dlc mobile port game.

They upped their game on dungeons and gave us 4 main dungeons + 1 optional dungeon in endgame. Increased enemy types so much and varied and they actually make us use all game mechanics connected to each other.

Some people will complain about the 1080p 30fps with dipping situation but lets face the fact that this game running on switch is like a miracle considering they made seamless transition between sky ground and depths + they made loading screens shorter. And the framedrop situation isn't because developers are lazy but they are stuck with an old console. So idk if that should actually affect the "game"s score when its not even games fault.

Now, talking about the game, it’s not perfect in a technical way. It suffers from ocasional framedrops, and thats the most negative thing I can say about it so far. Having spent around 30 hours on it, and being one of those that was skeptical since the first teaser because of how similar to it’s predecesor looked like, I can now assure you that this is something on a completely new level. Not only it doesn’t just “reuse” maps or assets; it expands the world in every direction, makes it a lot (and when I say a lot I mean A LOT) richer in details and things to do and discover, and it’s absurdly refined for the console it’s been (sadly) created for. When this game receive (and I’m completely sure it will in mere weeks), some patches to stabilize its performance even more, we will finally have a truly gem of a game in every aspect. Cheers to the players!

In a climate of story-driven "narrative-focused" games which rarely spare a thought to what a game should actually be, this game will suck hours out of your life and you won't even realise it. Whilst it sticks a little too close to the tenets established in BOTW, it is nonetheless a true testament to art and craft in video games. Very deserving of the praise it gets!

The game suffers from a discordant universe, where the integration of monsters and technological artifacts creates an incongruous atmosphere that detracts from the immersive experience expected from the franchise. The narrative is lackluster, with underdeveloped side characters lacking charisma and a storyline that fails to inspire.

Furthermore, the bosses, previously a highlight, now seem increasingly generic, lacking the originality and intrigue that characterized earlier installments. The game's saving grace is its customizability of builds and environment interaction, which offers some creative gameplay dynamics, but this is not enough to offset the other weaknesses.

The open-world format, a trend in gaming, here feels generic and lacks the unique touch that would differentiate it from countless other open-world games. In essence, Tears of the Kingdom feels like a missed opportunity, a game that took the right risks with its predecessor only to fall back on safer, less inspiring choices, resulting in an experience that is far from the revolutionary gaming experience that was Breath of the Wild.

E a performance ?
