They was able to make a plot as good as the first, this is very difficult to happen!!! The game feels more difficult and challenge from the first, they lost some opportunities and gaps in the overall story but nothing that will make you lose interest or impact much your immersion playing the game! Still a masterpiece!!

Have tested it a few hours. Don't like it personally. I would give it like 5 or 6. But because of disgusting ubisoft-fanboys giving elden ring a 0/10 I am going to do the same here to even it a bit out. Imagine copying the word of a malding ubisoft dev on twitter and reviewbombing with this wrong statements.

Basically a repeat of the first game but with prettier graphics. Put it down after 3 hours of boring repetitive side content on top of mediocre story.

    They have really outdone themselves!
They have taken everything that was good from the last game and made it better.
They took everything that was bad from the last game and improved upon it.

I think the skill trees were pretty pointless... I didn't use half of the skills that were on there.

Only a few hours in but visually stunning. Gameplay is excellent and the storyline is wonderful and follows on beautifully from Zero Dawn. Shows off the power of the PS5 graphically. Cannot wait for the PSVR2 and the scheduled Horizon game. Just stunning.

Nobody's going to read my lengthy review, but I'm going to do it anyway:
While I certainly liked the game, it's hard to ignore the flaws.
While I played on the PS5, and thus didn't have many of the graphical issues that others experience, I can't give it a high score with that in mind. Launching in a horrific state for some platforms are unacceptable. It does feel like a great

It does feel like a great continuation of HZD, and I loved finding more lore about this universe (which is one of my favorites, in gaming). I don't personally mind that it feels very "same-old'y", when played after HZD, and I feel most of the systems was properly improved from the first game.
Outside of that, most of my positives for this title are the graphics, the animations and, most importantly, the characters.

But there are negatives. While I appreciate a singular, linear main storyline, it didn't feel great that there were no meaningful choices in an RPG title. Largely, your choices are irrelevant, and in, by far, most cases there was a positive end for quests. Everything always just turned out just fine, which invalidates the feeling of there being anything at stake. This is a very deep flaw in an RPG title.
It did have a lot to live up to, after HZD's success, and I appreciate that many feel this game improved that formula, but I can't ignore the bugs, the non-choices and the lack of performance for certain platforms.

Firstly it should be noted that I thoroughly enjoyed the first game, it's combination of combat, lore/story, and beautiful landscapes was fantastic and whilst it borrowed a lot of ideas, they all came together to make something unique.

This game keeps the same great combat from the first game, mixing up the enemy types with some fantastic new designs. I was a little frustrated at the seeming lack of use for the rope caster this time round as it doesn't seem to tie down anything but very small machines making it largely useless. That aside though the combat is still awesome. The larger changes to combat are in the melee portion of the game giving you new combos that are great to pull off, but outside of the melee pits there aren't a huge amount of combat scenarios where you need to use them.

I was a little worried going into this game that they wouldn't be able to maintain the level of mystery that drove a lot of the first games narrative, and whilst that is true, it replaces it with more heart and some truly fun sci fi that keeps you guessing for a wile at least.

The graphics and open world on display here are truly amazing. You will often stop just to look around and marvel at your surroundings and whilst the game can rely on a map marker system at times, I would suggest turning most of it off and just exploring whatever takes your eyes fancy. Not all of it will have something to discover, but you may find a hidden under water cave replete with valuables to upgrade your weapons, a new hunting ground, a side quest, or just a random event.

I love the crafting system in this game, taking notes from monster hunter, you hunt down certain machines for certain parts. This becomes a test of skill as you have to shoot off said parts most of the time in order to collect them. I enjoyed this test of skill however some may find this a bit frustrating, however there is an option to just collect everything without having to shoot it off in options menu.

All in all this is a fantastic game, there are a few frustrations with traversal, but the story, crafting, graphics, combat, and not least musical score come together to make a great game. It was close to a 10, but I think some reliance on now overly familiar game elements prevents it from being a true master piece. I am now eagerly awaiting Horizon 3 whenever that may be.

Edit: Do yourself a favour and play on Hard, otherwise it will be. hours of firing arrows at easy machines. Hard and above make sure that you need to use the combat options at your disposal and make the game infinitely more interesting than it would be on normal.

I played this game on hardest difficulty on a 4k (The older HDMI standard not the newer 2.1 version) TV w/Ps5, so that's my visual context. I switched between the Resolution & Frame rate during gameplay. Solid.

If I were basing my review on Horizon Forbidden West lush beauty, WELL it would be getting a 10! What an amazing game, it was so atmospheric! I really got into the world.(With some caveats)

But after playing it & beating it on the PS5, on the hardest difficulty (157 hours)(no trophy for that?!)-I have a different take.

So, the game is a solid romp. It's a fun engaging experience. ALL the side quest are just as engaging as the main story. (I honestly got sick of it to be frank & longed for a simple fetch quest mixed in w/o having to find some boss at the end of it)...the characters are lively & chatty.

The combat for me, was appropriate to the difficulty I chose.. IT WAS VERY CHALLENGING. I honestly felt like some of the "boss fights", were frankly cheating at times, with the *Warping underground to my immediate location*... the warpy *jump attacks* where even with appropriate jumps on my part at least visually, as far as timing goes, I was still taking damage! I did not like that.

As a matter of fact, I felt like, the game was MORE NUMBER'S than skill, & more often than not, I found the "aim assist" hindering as much as it was helping. Like literally had arrows VEER off, course when it was very clear where the reticle was aimed. You could turn this feature off, but it was still hit & miss. Didn't like it.

The melee combat was annoying. Too much going on, I know the team was trying to make it "Fluid" & whatever other adjective you can throw out, but to me, it was just f**king annoying. I felt like I was trying to wrangle a herd of cats, getting aloy to do what I wanted in a fight.

Some of the tutorials in the melee pits made no sense.

A ton of weapons are story locked, which as an explorer, that's just annoying as all get out. The different armors were cool. Story locked as well.

They should have just made it simpler & you had 1 armor set with multiple slots you can customize with trinkets that boosted things for the player, & then you'd get to customize that, tweak it.

Same with weapons. Have 1 solid base, & then upgrade from there, instead of ALL these overly colorful weapons.. It was too much effort for me as a gamer & I'm sure for the dev? & it was a bad experience to be honest!

It was going from one time consuming bow/(insert weapon) to another.. it go OLD real quick. I'd find one I liked, & then have to move on.. (more powerful creatures, you need a more powerful bow?)

Speaking of weapons unlocked, you get a javelin that explodes in this game. That was pretty cool.

One thing though I noticed about ALL the weapons, & maybe it was just the difficulty I was playing at, but they didn't, even with upgrades, seem as "effective" or damaging, as the first Horizon Zero dawn?

Changing it up, I thought the "Special" abilities, especially one you unlock that makes you camouflaged, was really awesome, but poorly implemented. They just didn't last long enough, & you had to engage in battle FIRST to charge them up, which .. was annoying to be frank. Their was no way to upgrade these or make them work faster, etc.. It was a cool feature, but the way it was done, left it coming up short.

Grappling mechanic in the game, flat out sucked & was VERY limiting. I never expected myself to say this, but Halo Infinite that team pulled off the grappling mechanic perfectly. But I think if you are going to put a grapple in your game, you should at least aim for that level of effectiveness.

You unlock a certain transportation mechanic, in the game, WAAAY into the story. I'd say at about the 80% mark of the game? & since I did basically every side quest I could before tackling the main story... um, it end up biting me in the butt as a player. I'm sure it was meant to help make traversing the world more fun?

What I will say about this decision on the devs part, is again, its stupid.. it should have been done in a way where the player could have unlocked it ASAP, b/c it was the most awesome, epic amazing fun thing!.. the only way it could have been cooler, is if you'd got to ride on one of the large t-rex'esqe robots..

TL:DR Game is really amazing, its just got some small things that drag it down, instead of elevate it to a solid 10. For me, that's why I'm giving it the score I did. I feel like after giving the game 157hrs of my time, that I've got a pretty clear understanding of what I liked & didn't like as a gamer, & what was effective.

That being said, I have no regrets about my purchase.

Hfw has a great story but suffers with performance issues still to this day. Washed out and over sharpened images to frame drops in quality mode. The world is much the same as the first game with the old hold your hand world that we see in most open world games. Its a decent sequel to the great hzd but it isnt ground breaking and nothing seems to have changed at all.

However, while the map and sceneries were absolutely gorgeous, specially while flying around on a Sunwing. Unfortunately the story and characters failed to get me hooked like the first one did. The saddest part of the game was the ultimate message Guerrilla conveyed to the players which was obviously inspired by The Last of Us 2 and forced them to twist the story and ruin such a great game just like last of us 2 did. I'm afraid this is becoming a new trend and bad influence for players specially the younger generation. Sigh. Expand

People who are posting a 0/10 seem to be extremists because any sane human being who's ever played a video game in their life would see agree that this title isn't deserving of such harsh negativity. If you think the story is unimaginative you clearly aren't paying attention. The controls take some time to get used to, true. But like any other game, you simply have to spend the necessary time to master the nuanced changes made from the original to utilize them effectively. I started to face so many issues, glitching inside the ground, unable to finish some missions, stuttering and frame drops... the game is a disaster in performance mode.
Sounds and audio: 10/10, great Sound tracks and great audio options! You can lower enemy audio or surroundings audio or music audio or voice audio! And that is perfect for me!!!

The first game had a wonderful introduction to Aloy and her rise to save the world from derranged machines - Now in Forbidden West, her journey continues - Searching for a backup of GAIA to restore the biosphere and fulfill Dr. Sobek's dream. Machines: Some of the classic machines have made a glorious return, seeing them in action again brought a smile to my face. With also an even bigger list of brand new machines, definitely got me by surprise. Skill Tree: The upgraded skill tree in FW is fantastic, so many new options to enhance Aloy's skills - increasing her strength for upcoming battles. Weapons: The new weapons you find in different settlements are astounding - I keep finding better weapons as I progress through the game, allowing me to tackle the more difficult enemies, giving me a powerful edge.

Armor: The choices of outfits is vast - Now each selection of clothing has its own stats. No more are they just asthetic, but now they actually provide protection and adding their own extra skill - Each outfit has different stats - Which can be improved by upgrading at a workbench -- AND! You can now change the color of your outfit at a Dye merchant. Upgrades: In FW - Upgrading is essential - You're now given the ability to upgrade your gear as well as your outfits - Strengthening and inhancing your abilities, making you OP as heck. Enemies will be running after they see the heavy gear you're packing

It has grown a bit larger since the first game. There are some features here that is great, and some that is not-so great.

First off, the weapon and combat is packed with much more moves and weapon features. I do feel that it is quite OVER-whelming how much of it you are pushed on to learn. As of close combat, i just felt like mashing buttons all the time. Combat can also seem tedious at times, as machines constantly knocks you over where you spend copious amount of time getting up into the fight again, you find your self knocked over again as soon as you get up. Best tactics to me was the heavies bow you got and take em out from disctance.

I think the map you running around on has been updated with much classier locations too. This time they added much more underwater levels to explore, and swimming can be tedious to do at times, but fluid and fun once you get the flow going. Just to take a dip in the ocean is a marvellous relaxing experience by itself.

Story follows suit and continue on developing. I do feel Aloy has certain personality issues we are not told. The fact that she constantly narrates almost her every action what she does and what she is about to do can be annoying for your brain at times. She talks, suggests and seem to know every move where to go and what to do as she continuously feeds you hints all the time.
The cut scenes are tiresome, long and in complete abundance trough out the game. I found myself just skipping most side quest dialogue and focused on the main story, to save me from watching the game rather than playing it too much.

Controls are at the worst when climbing. I am getting the old Assassins Creed problem of jumping around where she should not jump. Miss calculations and often rage of not doing what i want her to do.
On ground Aloy is fast and swift, but i kept on foot most of the time as riding machines felt stale, janky and hard to manoeuvre. Mind you, i did not try riding all machines as i write this since in this game you can learn to tame and ride pretty much every machine as you go. Which is cool.

The first Horizon, i played after it had been out for some time. I would say it was by far the most stable and Bug free game i had played in recent times. But in this game, the bugs can come and go. It is almost unavoidable to not have bugs in the games today which are so complex compared to the old days. I had severe dialogue audio drop out many many times, and falling trough the infinity due to missing land textures (Especially when you exited trough GAIAs chamber).

Still i think Forbidden West is a great time spender. Beautiful visually. Great maps. But as usual, the standard fare of find, and collect repeat and rinse for a trophy or whatever, but not so severe as formulaic made open world games. Game does not break new grounds, both in Open World concept or being a sequel in its own domain. Its worth the purchase.

Horizon Zero Dawn was one of my favorite games of the last generation and I was extremely excited for this long awaited sequel. Unfortunately I found this game to lack many aspects that made the first game so great

-The open world while being larger feels generally uninteresting, full of repetitive fetch quests and filler side objectives. -The visuals leave a lot to be desired on performance mode, although the environments (esp the water) are often beautiful, the lack of native 4K tends to leave a fuzzy look to everything without the clarity and sharpness one would expect from a 1st party Sony game in 2022. This is likely due to the developer's restraints of this being a cross gen title, it appears to be a game built around PS4 hardware and simply ported over to PS5 rather than the other way around. A true 4K/60fps experience is what this game is really lacking.
-The dialogue feels noticeably weaker than in the previous game, I often skip through lines of uninteresting rambling when I don't recall ever doing that in the first game.
-The plot is also noticeably less interesting this time around. Now that many mysteries were revealed to us by the end of the first game it feels like more of the same here rather than a unique story with its own engaging mysteries and discoveries. I generally didn't care about the plot this time as opposed to the first game where i was heavily invested.
-Combat is more prominent but also more repetitive this time. There seems to be less focus on stealth and scanning and more focus on brawling multiple enemies, combat wasn't exactly ZD's strong suit but there wasn't an over abundance of it to really mind, this time we are given many repetitive encounters with uninspired combat mechanics that feel quite dated in 2022.

Overall this certainly isn't a bad game, it's competent and well made but it is generally a step down from the first game and suffers from being the victim of forced cross gen limitations.

What we have is a very solid ‘fine’ game. There’s some nice set pieces and it looks good (but I didn’t find it looked as good on PS5 as say Ratchet and Clank, likely due to having to run on PS4), music and sfx are fine etc. Put it this way, big game studio put out a game, ticks all the big game studio boxes etc. Which includes diversity boxes if that’s something that bothers you. This doesn’t really matter to me, but I know a lot of gamers don’t like being preached to and this game does that right out of the gate.

It’s fine, but it’s safe, familiar and feels quite soulless and honestly a bit boring to me. One problem perhaps specific to me is I just don’t like Aloy in the way I’ve liked Lara Croft so she doesn’t help pull me through repetitive and generic gameplay in the way tomb raider did. I’d say only buy if you’re a big fan of the character and the first game as there’s much better games out there that do the same thing. I’d wait for sale personally even then. It’s definitely at least a 6/10, possibly a 7. But 10? Not even close.

This game would be magnificent at 4K with higher than 30fps. Story is very well scripted and thought through and the characters most definitely are more human like than robotic like in Zero Dawn. I am also very pleased with the expanded leveling and skill point system in this installment as well. While Forbidden West is great game it is not without its faults. The combat hasn’t been drastically overhauled and the looting and crafting still feel somewhat sluggish and tedious. Zero dawn gave me a weird feeling of boredom even while I enjoyed that game. Surprisingly Forbidden west does the same. Even though I thoroughly enjoyed the game it feel like I was forcing myself to finish it and if I’m honest I can’t understand why.

This game also adds a ton of new content for players to enjoy.

A solid quarter of my playtime has been spent in the game's photo mode because there are so many fun poses, cool outfits and beautiful locations.
This game also adds a ton of new content for players to enjoy. New weapons, new outfits, new skills, new skill trees, new abilities, new tools, new traversal options, new robots, new characters, new factions, new traversal options, and even brand new board game that's pretty fun.
Combat is engaging. There are so many different arenas, enemies and ways to approach combat. You can go for a stealth build, laying down traps and going for sneak attacks. You can go in "guns" blazing. You can try to deal as much raw damage as possible, or try to target specific components to disable abilities and gain upgrades. You can remove weapons from your enemies and use it against them. Even something as simple as a bow and arrow has a ton of variety to it? Do you want a bow that shoots fast, or one that shoots slower, but does more damage or tears off components easier? Do you want to prioritize dealing damage, or would you like to inflict status effects to weaken your opponent before going in for the kill?
This game also greatly expands upon the world established in zero dawn. You get to learn more about stuff established in the previous game, and you get to learn about brand new aspects of the world. You also get to learn about how the factions you're familiar with interact with the factions you're meeting for the first time.
I would give this game a perfect 10, but there are a few small things that keep me from doing this. Some of the returning characters feel like they don't have a lot to do, and the dialogue with them can feel kinda empty, complete with unnecessary theatre-type. movements and gestures. Sometimes enemy AI can be a little weird too. I've had a few instances where I was in combat, and my enemy just kinda left, and I had to chase them down again. Some of the enemies can also feel a little too tanky at times as well.
Overall however, some of the most fun I've had playing a game in a long time and I wish people were talking about this game more.

I will never forgive them over the ending to the Ted Faro quest. They spent a game and a half working up Aloy and the player's disgust for this man who is the reason everything bad is happening, and then they wuss out on showing him or allowing any kind of catharsis in ending him. Horizon Forbidden West is Sony's main selling point for the PS5 right now. There are other titles that have been released already but this is the one that Sony has put the most effort behind advertising. And it certainly works in a lot of aspects. But some of the same problems from the previous game return here and a very by the numbers plot really was a bit of a let down.
There's alot of good here that people will point to as a system seller. The graphics are phenomenal and it has some of the best motion capture I've ever seen in a game, especially in the faces. It really made a huge impact for my play through as the emotions of every single character, whether they were just a small, bit player or a huge main character, was amazing. There's also tons of talent here as many famous voice actors show up here that you will recognize from major games and anime. Lance Reddick reprises his role as Sylens and Carrie Anne-Moss from the matrix movies plays a new character central to the story, and both of them really steal the show whenever they're on the screen. All characters are wonderfully crafted and make the world really feel alive. It was easily the best part of the game by a long shot.
The biggest issue with the game revolves around there just being too much of everything. There's too many different types of weapons to keep track of, each with their special types of ammo. There's also WAY too many things on the map when you start to open up things as the game progresses. It's really intimidating at times to see the sheer amount of icons on the map. The map size is huge too so there can be dozens upon dozens of things to see on the map and can make it very hard to find the one tiny icon you want to go too. I just didnt really care about most of the side activities, especially the ones that really don't give you any rewards besides a useless new outfit or something that you get a ton of even by the mid game.
The story, as well, really didnt stick with me. Its a direct sequel to the first game which, if you haven't played through, as well as its DLC, then you're going to super lost, even with the recap cutscene at the start. Things also were very by-the-numbers too and it felt very video-gamey for lack of a better word. Plot twists were SUPER obvious and with Aloy's Mary Sue like tendencies, where she immediately has all the answers to any and all problems that crop up, really took me out of most cutscenes and major plot points. It really misses the whole discovery part from the first game as to why things are the way they are. Now that we know, they have to continue to escalate beyond "murder robot animals" in a primitive setting that was the most compelling part of the first game. And with the set up for a 3rd game at the end here, things are even more crazy than before.
At the end of the day though, Forbidden West is an easy recommendation to anyone who's played through the first game and its DLC. While the story may not have been as engaging as the first one, the stellar acting and terrific motion capture go a long way to keep you engaged. While I may have liked the first one better, I still had a good enough time here to recommend it.

Sad people can’t have an opinion these days with the Liberal narrative that If you don’t like a female character then your a bigot shoved in our face that. This game is Boring and that’s that

Mejora todo lo que en el hzd, en historia, desarrollo de personajes y gráficamente es mucho mejor

The story is boring. Everything that was worth to be told was told in the first game.

If you like Horizon Zero Dawn, you will love Forbidden West. Also by far the most graphical advances of any game at the time of release.

Excellent story, music and system, love Aloy. I will give 10 if there are more costumes and collaboration with other games.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. This game is rich in detail, color and lore. The new characters and npcs are much better crafted and the dialogue with them is far superior to HZD. The settlements and the environment in general are beautiful, the side quests are interesting, I love what they've done with the free climbing. The new machines are cool and challenging. The map is enormous which to me is great.. in general this game is awesome. My main complaint is that night comes too soon and is way too long. Its always **** night. This is why I give it an 8- its irritating. Can't see **** My light balance during the day is perfect. Also, the armor you get for the extra 20 bucks isn't worth it. Looks cool but is **** Expand

Breath-taking. Everything that was great about the first one was taken up a notch. I have been thoroughly enjoying this game.

Horizon has enchanted me again. After a slow start, a graphically beautiful, sophisticated sequel comes, polished in every aspect, and underscored by a great soundtrack on top of that. The sequel was simply a success. Everything that worked before works even slightly better now. [Issue#317]

Horizon Forbidden West is Guerrilla's best game to date, taking Aloy to new heights with a blockbuster release that meets the high standards set by PlayStation in recent years. While it's totally worth fans jumping in on day one, it's perhaps better to wait a few weeks until all the bugs are ironed out.

Horizon Forbidden West is exactly what everyone thought it would be: an amazing game. It has an open world with plenty of things to do and places to explore, fights against some really well-developed machines and stunning visuals. The feeling is that the second game of the series improves on what was already great, and it feels rewarding and fun to play. It is another single-player masterpiece from Sony.
