Game was patched in the first month after release and reviews and hooking everyone in to dramatically lower the rewards for racing and push the game into MTX nightmare territory. Absolutely abysmal business practices do not buy.

This has the potential to be a great game if some issues are fixed, but in its current state it’s impossible to recommend.
In gameplay terms: there is no focused single player content past the introductory “Cafe” system, which is essentially a lengthy tutorial. Almost every car is prone to far more oversteer than in reality. The AI is poor, and when it crashes into you, you are penalised.

You spend too much time navigating menus, and those menus are not well thought out. Event variety is poor, with almost all single player events being overtaking challenges.
The game also suffers from a highly predatory business model. Race payouts are very poor, and have been reduced further in patches. This is presumably to push you towards the prominently-featured micro transactions, which leave some cars costing upwards of £60 of real money (or hundreds of hours of grinding). The game is also always-online, and therefore unplayable if the servers (or your Internet connection) are down, as they are at the time of writing.

Horrible game. All modes are online so on the days with extended maintenance you can’t even play single player modes. Apart from that, polyphony digital just patched the game to reduce the payouts in the game in order to push their disgusting micro-transaction model. Stay away

I'd like to give this game a fair review. Unfortunately, after spending the last 3 hours waiting for it to install and download an update and sitting through a 10 minute unskippable video I now learn that the game servers are down for maintenance and because a constant internet connection is required I can't play.

I'm very tempted to put it back in the box and return it.

Game was patched to exclusively become a platform to get you to pay micro-transactions to have a good experience. Base gameplay was already barely affordable with in-game economy and that has been removed. Do not buy unless you want to spend hundreds-thousands of dollars for a decent experience, or lose the rest of your life to grinding single player races against a crappy AI.

So, just for people who are unaware, they shut the game down for, what I believe is around 15 hours and counting. The reason for this is because the in-game currency can also be purchased as premium currency. The amount is frankly insane too. Well, apparently after the latest patch, someone figured out how to cheese the currency, so since Sony/polyphony/whoever wasn't making as much money as possible, they shut the entire game down to fix this, rather than any other issue that would just be patched in, like usual. This really started to get worse in my head when I thought about the fact that you can't play the game offline really at all (barely any circuits and some music rally stuff.) The reason is because the in game currency affects the devs pockets, so we aren't able to play offline due to that. Everything in the world not only depends on money, but truly revolves around it more and more blatantly to the point where everyone just directly admits to it to your face, gives you the finger, and says "deal with it." It's frustrating and depressing that this, and so many other promising things (I have a lot of hobbies and interests) have just been only about money, and not about passion or anything else, and I swear it wasn't always like this. The sound, while not great, is far better than any previous game. The attention to tiny details in certain areas are amazing too, plenty of easter eggs to uncover. Amazing menu music Now the bad

Dont buy the game expecting the typical GT issues to be fixed as they haven’t learned a single lesson from former mistakes. The online is just as bad as ever. The car count is fine but the number of new cars is almost zero, no 720s, no c8, dont make me list. Most popular sports cars from the last 5 years arent here. The race music is near identical of the previous game with the exception of maybe 5 songs? You still have 90% of races starting in 16th place rolling start with the leader half the track ahead. The AI is just as bad as ever or perhaps worse because they pit you for zero reason. Now the really bad

Microtransactions are fine as long as you dont tailor your $70 game around them…but they did this time. Every single car has seen a price increase (an s2000 is $100k) and payouts from races are TINY compared to previous games. The game is completely unfinished, half of the licenses arent even used in the “campaign”. There isnt a real campaign. Theres a stupid cafe system where you can finish in 3 days and thats with only a few hours played a day. PD is actively patching races with large payouts so players dont get money too fast. The number of courses is miniscule and dont include many courses featured in trailers. The physics for some rwd are completely wrong (ie 350z has snap oversteer like an s2000 with bad tires. These are both cars ive owned and tracked irl). There are many glitches, crashes and flat out errors that are getting worse with every patch (for the past week, tires on dozens of mission races and licenses have been bugged making the missions/licenses near impossible. TLDR: absolute mess of a game. An embarrassment for a 25th anniversary. Wait and I mean WAIT long to buy it, perhaps a year or more. Completely unlike the PD of old, but anyone with a brain could have seen this coming after the launch of GT 5 and GT sport. Those were just tests to see how little content they could getaways with and how gullible the fanbase was.

For the first week, many players realized that this game was extremely grindy, meaning you had to play and absurd amount of hours just to get credits and unlock/purchase new cars, upgrades etc. But not everyone has insane amount of hours to drop on a game. so naturally everyone started looking for ways to get credits faster. This greedy company decided instead to reduce the amount of credits earned per races and push their microtransactions to the front page, even after the game was already $80, to make matters even worse, their ingame roulette tickets give you the impression that you could win awesome prices such as high amount of credits, car parts or even expensive cars, however the system is so rigged that always gives you the lowest and cheapest reward. How fckd up of a company do you have to be to manipulate consumers this way and to force microtransactions? I'm off to playing something else, they really messed up this time.

Until the most recent patch came out and essentially destroyed my interest in playing it ever again. Polyphony and/or Sony’s greed got the best of them and they lowered the amount of credits you get from races making it damn near impossible to get the cars you want unless you either dedicate your life to playing this game from sun up to sun down OR you can pay the exorbitant prices for the microtransactions. In addition to that, the “always online” requirement is probably the worst thing here. During the maintenance breaks I am unable to play anything besides the music rallies. You are immediately shown the Café on the map which is where you complete the main career races in the game. You finish these in a completely linear format, winning cars along the way that you will use for following races. In previous titles, you had to make choices, you had freedom. You were only limited by drivetrain or your car, and your skill.

All of the thinking and choice has been taken out. Not only that, its painfully obvious the lineup café menu races were not finished, intentionally or not. It seems like either PD ran out of time to include races that utilize the I-B, I-A, or S licenses... or more likely they were stripped from the game to be graciously given (or sold?) at a later date. Once you get through the café menu and you beat the final championship (which only requires an A license), the credits roll... and that’s it…

One of the “features” of GT7 is closer to real life pricing of most cars in the game. The main take away which leads into the next point is that cars, upgrades, everything costs more money relative to previous entries. For example, an R34 GTR is 400k+ credits.

The design philosophy of this game is heavily influenced to push players towards micro transactions. There is no way to make a decent amount of money per time spent in any race to save up for the more expensive cars. Players had narrowed down 2 races which had the best payout per time spent. Keep in mind, these were the best methods of griding credits, not that they “good” to begin with. At best you were averaging about 96k credits/3.5 minutes = hours of griding a single race to afford one car. As of patch 1.07 they nerfed the payout of those races. Keep in mind, while other gaming “journalists” are towing the line for Sony/PD claiming this patch is fixing a “bug” that players were “exploiting” to farm “lots of credits quickly”, this was simply the most efficient method at the time, even then it was not very efficient. Especially in relation to how expensive cars and parts are in this game.

There is artificial scarcity built in to the dealers where certain cars need a valid “invitation” to purchase which is only valid for a limited time. This mechanic is meant to induce a fear of missing out (FOMO), and to encourage the player to purchase credits with real world money. Also, the legendary car dealership features a selection of cars that are only available for a limited amount of time before they are swapped out, again inducing FOMO.

In previous entries in the GT series, players could sell cars they did not need or want in order to buy something they wanted. Not the case in GT7, you can only permanently remove cars from your garage.

Another hated mechanic has found its way into GT7, the roulette wheel. You gain spins through café menu races, and by completion of daily mileage driven. It is well documented by the GT community that the wheels spins are heavily weighted to nearly always payout the worst prize shown. This mechanic presents itself like it provides an equal chance of giving any 1 of the 5 items. However, nearly always it will happen to land on the smallest sum of credits versus a new car, or a coveted “invitation” to purchase a car at a dealer for a limited time, or even engine swaps.

Engine swaps can only be won through roulette spins. You cannot buy them through the tuning shop like all the other car upgrades.

These mechanics in combination are meant to push the player to purchase microtransactions. For example, if one were to surrender to the microtransaction demons and wanted to buy a 3.5 million credit Ferrari FXX after they got extremely lucky and won an invitation to buy the car within 14 days from the rigged roulette spins, at today’s priced of in game credits at $20USD : 2,000,000 credits, it would cost $35 USD to buy one car……. ONE CAR! And that’s not the most expensive car we’ve seen in game either. A jaguar that is 12M credits, which would be $120 USD…… I think these should be called macrotransations at this point, there is nothing micro about $120

Game-breaking bugs including the 1.06 update changing the dirt tires on rally cars for off road races which made some races impossible to complete for many.

The game is always online and needs to be online to function even for the single player campaign, not just multiplayer.
The physics are great (outside of off-road races), graphics are phenomenal, and the sound design is fantastic. The livery designer is amazing, I have just as much fun designing liveries as I do actually racing. At its very core, GT7 could be a great racing game, if it weren’t for the aforementioned free-to-play-like/gacha mechanics that cripple any longevity this game had.

What happened? Why did this series go so far in a bad way? It's pathetic and shameful for how they are handling the push for micro-transactions and the predatory feature of ticket invites for limited car purchases. I was trying to defend all this until the servers went down and I couldn't play the game I played for, I can't make a livery, I can't test a tune, I can't do a time trial for fun enjoying the time/weather change progression just because. To top it all off it's even harder now for casual players to make money and buy/customize cars.
Shameful. I've never felt this bitter about something in gaming before.

Also, an aggressive push to buy MTXs by cutting race rewards seems like a scummy move by PG, and it's absurd to the point where a better option to buy cars on GT7 would be to work IRL, and only then buy an in-game car.

For now, I'm boycotting the game since I don't want it to end like Battlefront II on release, although it seems like it's going to.

First, it's $70 game which has unnecessary microtransactions where you pay real money to buy in-game currency to exchange for cars/car upgrades. Why is this even a thing? To make matters worse, the game is being patched in order to make it harder to earn money which now increases the need for those transactions. That is an absolutely disgusting and unacceptable business practice for a premium priced game.

Second, it's a racing game which can't be played offline. I'd wager the majority of the playerbase plays solo - what on earth are they thinking?

Overall, the game itself could have been one of the best racing games we've seen in a long time. Instead, it has been completely ruined for the above two reasons, which is enough to warrant giving it a 0.

Menu is simply atrocious and requires you to go through page after page after page before you get somewhere you want to. I have a feeling that Polyphony did this so you don't want to actually race. Why? Because Polyphony forgot to include racing game in GT7!
It's a fetch quest to bring 3 cars, given to you by the guy in cafe who cannot speak, but gives you tasks in written form to fetch some cars. Once you do that he will tell about them and ask you to bring another 3 cars etc.. It's just irresistible to listen(read) about the things that cafe guy want to tell you about.
You cannot sell cars you cannot customise what's displayed during race, there are only two options full and limited HUD. Limited meaning racetrack layout and leader board that obstruct entire rear view mirror. If you have an older car and modify it driving with cockpit view will only inform you about speed until you reach limit of a factory fitted gauge. What is your speed after that? Full HUD will tell you that and take half of the screen rendering cockpit view useless. This game is a biggest joke at the expense or racing enthusiast in recent years. Hey did you know by the way that you can buy 100.000 in game credits for just £1.99? No skill required!
    Update 17/03/22
With current update cutting payouts for races to force micro-transtactions this game officially reached bottom. Congratulations Polyphony you reached greed level of EA an Ubisoft.

Gran Turismo 7 has a lot of good and plenty of great. The use of DualSense and the particularly well-tuned loading is exemplary, and there's a huge amount of work behind the game, with a lot of detail that's almost hard to believe at times. [Issue#318]

Gran Turismo 7 brings to the tracks every single thing fans always wanted: the GT Mode everyone loves, plenty of customization options, car loads, classic scenarios and one of the best DualSense and 3D Audio experiences the PS5 has to offer. This is the best Gran Turismo experience we have ever seen in a long time.

Gran Turismo 7 is a love letter to motorsport history and an impeccable technical showcase. The franchise's traditional formula gets good improvements, but it's still extremely true to its roots. One of the best racing series ever shines spectacularly on the PS5.
