This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. When released, Gran Turismo redefined car racing games, it's team were known for their cutting edge programming and graphics. Games like Forza would not be here if not for GT. To me, if feels like recent entries in the series have become lifeless, regurgitating the same features but with a new coat of paint. There is no vision, ambition or innovation any more. Even the once legendary lighting feels lacklustre, instead of it leaving the completion in it's wake. I can think of many features that would really put this game back on track again. Kazanori once said that he does look at his competitors games but he really should. Has Kaz just got bored of making games or has Japan really fallen so far with game development since the golden ear? Add to that the micro transaction where you can buy real cars cheaper than the in game ones and useless offline play leaving players stranded, unable to play for days at a time. I can't even get my money back but I can promise never to buy another game from this studio, despite being there from the very start.. sad Expand

Disgusting and appalling decision by Sony/Polyphony Digital to blatantly cripple the game with the clear intent to incentivize the purchase of credits. Downtime for a game that is impossible to play offline is made even more ridiculous when you consider that 99% of the game is played in single player mode. You seriously **** your customers right up their **ses doing so, while still enjoying all the good ratings from those testers, who had no clue about what you actually had in mind AFTER you released the game and cheated on them too. Not even mentioned this game is not playable offline - and of course your servers are down since days, probably some hackers who had enough of you spiting people in their faces...

So, the game at full priced 69€ or even 79€ comes with gear, that's almost impossible to get because of explicitly adjusted enormous grinding time! You should join with EA, those *holes are just the same suckers you've become right now.

Ths is for me the end Sony - I'll get rid of my PS and switch to PC - enough is enough! I hope you'll suffocate one day on your endless greed!

    1. I pay a full game price for offline singleplayer experience and still get forced to be online 24/7 for 90%+ of the game contents. I know tracking and data collecting means $$$ but come on! Thats shady and criminal!

    2. Earning money to buy the cars is made artificially harder due to up to -50% lower in-game price money. In-game purchases is what we are bullied into. Micro transactions my ass! This is god damn gran turismo not some scum ebay offering.

    3. We cant sell/trade/share cars as it used to be to get money or just as a present for friends and family. How more unsocial can it get?

    - First and foremost the number 1 ridiculous issue which is the online-only requirement even when playing single player. This has to be the most infuriating “feature” in modern gaming and has caused my *physical* single player disc to be unplayable for nearly 2 days and counting now. - No proper “career” mode. I finished the “cafe” missions, which are as close as it gets, in 3 days

    - Aggressively pushes micro transactions everywhere. Haven’t been able to play the latest patch yet but it apparently reduces the paltry race rewards even further so you can spend even more time grinding to buy new cars to play the same races over and over again or spend more money on top of the £60 the game costs in the first place.

    - The “Races” aren’t really that at all, the vast majority are rolling start type events with as much as a 40 second gap between you and the lead vehicle. Standing starts with a relatively evenly matched grid are replaced with dull overtaking challenges for almost *every* event.

    - Disappointing number of bugs and glitches for a game that’s been in development for so long. PS4 version has a lot of frame drops which I can overlook as it’s pretty old hardware now. Overall almost everything that distinguishes it from the previous games makes it worse. There’s a great game und

    1. Their direction with GT Cafe completely ruins the classic GT experience. I understand that they may need to cater for those new to the franchise but I find this so restrictive and linear compared to the original caRPG formula that I grew up and adored. Leave me to it. Let me progress myself, purchase used cars fix them up grind for more credits and beat the next race series. If I want to go into the history of the cars provide me with the museum in Brand Central like in GT Sport. 2. The micro transactions are disappointing but isn’t the end of the world. What I hate is the “car roulette”. This is insulting. It is not rewarding and leaves accessing particular tuning options to chance. I bought GT because I enjoy the grind caRPG mechanic, why oh why, did they introduce this outrageous fruit machine to the franchise?
    3. Why are there no grid starts or qualifying? I feel like every race I do I’m chasing down the pack as part of an overtake challenge rather than intense racing at each corner. 4. Used cars are the same for everyone (depending on your GT Cafe progress) and it’s frustrating that it doesn’t update every day. You can’t bring something different/unique to the multiplayer lobbies like you could in GT5. 5. The always online requirement ruins this game 100%. Whenever there is server maintenance you can’t play the SINGLE PLAYER game. You’re stuck with boring mini games such as Music Rally which I hate so much. I want to play the £70 single player game when I want not have to rely on the online servers to be available to authorise me to play my game. And now we have a worst case scenario in play with these systems where the servers have been done for an extended period of time, the game has become unplayable. Why? Single player should not be affected by any online services at all and it raises a big question: what happens when in 5 years time the GT7 servers go EOL? Will that disable all copies of GT7 around the world? I still play my copies of GT2 and GT4 today. I expect to be able to play my copy of GT7 again in 15 years time.

Wait for Polyphony to remove DRM against Single player before considering this game.

Couple that with always online requirement, pitiful MTs and server outages and it equals a disgusting cash grab. I literally can't play the game I paid 70$ for less than a week ago. Last PS product I'm buying and last Sony product I'm buying. Expand

This game is useless without online connection. With offline racing you always start as last. With the last update 1.07 they reduced all earnings. Its sad to see they really pushing you to pay for Microtransactions. This is an exploitation game. I don't recommend playing this game.

2 Day Downtime in a singleplayer game. Adding microtransactions after release. Decreasing race payment so you can spend 120€ of your real, hard earned money to buy a virual car. Mobile F2P economics in a 80€ game. The worst part is the game has potential to be great but greedy suits ruined it again

I was not really caring about the always on requirement, but was slightly irritated. Especially for a "real" Gran Turismo which I will definitely play alone 99% of the time it's totally useless.

Now the GT7 servers are down for such a long time, I'm totally pissed not being able to do ANY race at all...

El juego se puede jugar exclusivamente con conexión a internet, los Server llevan más de 24 horas caído y no se puede jugar. Además es un PaytoWin es decir de simulación/ competicion tiene poco. For a AAA game that sells consoles for Sony its not great, but my biggest issue is the predatory behaviour in pushing MTX towards people. Credits for purchasing cars have been nerfed despite already being the lowest in any GT entry. No one has the time to grind out for 20 million in game credits to buy the dream car they can't actually afford in real life so the solution for Polyphonic/Sony is the offer of 2 million credits for £16 via MTX? People didn't buy/pre order a full price AAA game to be forced to play the game like a second job just to be able to drive the cars they can't afford in real life. I understand grinding sometimes but at the current economy set up engaging players on FOMO with limited digital stock of cars on a timer and potentially being short on in game credits, they are pushing for people to shell out for additional cash. For a game that already cost £70? The bait and switch pulled on MTX has left a bitter taste in many fans mouths as MTX were only implemented on launch day, after all the reviews had already come out. Furthermore there is a half-baked single player campaign that is extremely short and ends very abruptly. The campaign rewards you with cars for chasing down a linear rail of cars driven by a brain dead AI. However the cars that are rewarded can't be sold for in game credits like previous titles so you are stuck with a cluttered garage. Further evidence of predatory practices pushing players towards MTX can be seen in the trophy list as there is a trophy for purchasing the same car 10 times. The roulette system to win big ticket items is heavy skewed towards the lowest winnings and its completely random if you win a 1* to 6* ticket from the daily workout. There are very few new additions to cars in the roster at present and very few races for single player enjoyment. For a single player designed GT game it is currently abysmal, the online focused GT Sport from PS4 has more single player content and is better polished. Seriously disappointed in this numbered entry and surprised that the 'Games as a Service' model has been allowed to operate in such a barebones, blatant cash grab fashion. Expand

Rolling starts everywhere you look, micro transactions (I know this is the new norm because people keep paying for it), and online only gameplay. Nothing like buying a game for $70 and then not being able to play it when the server is not running. There are plenty more steller games that are out that you can actually play. The game is pretty...that's about all I am satisfied with.

I have been a GT-fan since the Playstation 1. So I did something, that I haven't done in ages: I pre-ordered a game. Not just the regular edition but the 25th anniversary edition even.
It was quite enjoyable so far. I was even fine with the mandatory always-online functionality.
But now I changed my stance. Since 16 hours (and rising) the GT7-servers are in extended maintenance mode.

To add insult to injury they simultaneously added some changes to the game: mainly scaling back the credits you can win by racing! Why you may ask? Of course to push their **** microtransactions! I paid 100€ and now they try to lure me in to buy credits to buy those higher end cars? Wow, really disappointing.

But even beside those two issues, there are many baffling issues. The short "campaign" via the ingame Café, which even locks many menues behind its progression (can't play Splitscreen without making much progress in this "campaign"). No arcade mode, lacking races at the moment and so on.

Gran Turismo 7 is a love letter to motorsport history and an impeccable technical showcase. The franchise's traditional formula gets good improvements, but it's still extremely true to its roots. One of the best racing series ever shines spectacularly on the PS5.
