Sony is loaded with a heap of selfish A-holes. It's going to be such pleasure watching you burn as you spiral down to insignificance....at which point you'll come up with every spin in the book to how you actually had good intentions that backfired blah blah blah. I'm SO glad I held off getting the PS5. Hi Microsoft....I'm back.

Only two realistic things in this game are vehicle prices and the lack of attainability. Game is excessively grindy for $70 as they push a mtx heavy model.

I mean, do I even explain it at this point? First, the fact that it is impossible to play the game you pay for if their servers are not online. First, the fact that it is impossible to play the game you pay for if their servers are not online. Not only does this mean a lengthy outage if something goes wrong (and as we recently saw) but it also means that the game has no life expectancy. Once the powers-that-be decide it's time to shut down the servers, the game becomes nothing more than a paper weight. That is, if you have a physical copy. Then, what about the reduction of credits that are to be earned? And to pour salt on the wound, they issue a statement saying they don't want players to grind as much nor to pay a lot for microtransactions... consider that if you don't want to spend weeks on end grinding the same track, your only option is to spend $200 for a single car. This is beyond ridiculous. We spend good money on a game that is supposed to finished. Not one that wants me to continue to spend money. I'm not doing it.. I will finish the single player game (because, truth be told, the game looks and plays great) but after that, it's done, and I will move to the next game and not look back. It's the last installment of GT for me. Expand

Greed has managed to take over this industry and looks to be rotting it to the core, games that used to be dependable and exciting which provided us with new adventures, gave us joy and excitement now are just schemes to make continual cash flows, it’s utterly disgraceful.

The gaming industry seems to be changing for the worse, it’s embrace of new technology has been used to create better gaming experience but also as a mechanism for padding the already hefty wallets of the industry executives.

How i miss the simple days of when games didn’t connect to the internet and they had to be playable from day one. It’s a shame that all of the hard work from the developers, artists and productions can be thrown down the toilet by a few soulless individuals, bottom lines are truly dreadful.

Well, we're here, how did we get here? Today PD released an update that nerfed pay outs for some events, why? To answer that I'd like to explain a bit how this game presents itself to the player.

    - - - - - - -

The problem with Gran Turismo 7 is GaaS, or Games as a Service, what it basically entails is cutting off half or more of the final game content to release via 'free' updates, updates which will have content that gradually increases in price/value as it is released, games that feature a lot of grinding are prime targets to be converted to this system and it is a plague among the gaming industry as it makes you choose between time and money, that IMO does not make a game a 'game' anymore but something meant to fleece you as much as it can.

The only GT games I've played are GT3/GT5/GTS, I can tell you that the initial grind in GT7 is much more forgiving than in GT3, (can't say much for the others as I didn't really play them much) I made $1m Cr. in 5 days, that same feat took me months in GT3, however this is at this moment in the game, the GaaS system itself features continuing 'free' updates (update is "Free" content is not) which will introduce cars that are inevitably better, cooler and have more features than the base cars in the game and Polyphony will MAKE you want those cars, because if you don't get them, you'll start losing races, you'll start to be pestered with all sorts of ads that show you cars only in the new updates then you will have to make the inevitable question:

Is grinding for 2 hours a day, 5 days a week for 2 weeks, worth less for me than the $40 it takes to buy that shiny new car right now with microtransactions?

And you'll most likely answer, no.

And then it will most likely happen again with the next update, gradually increasing in credit price, then when you least expect it, you will be paying so that you don't have to play the game, GaaS inherently gives you an extreme goal and begs you for money to make it easier (this is why you CAN'T sell cars), it is insidious and is destroying my love for gaming, it inserts itself in the most forced ways in games for the sole reason of making a quick buck off of you and it IS working, only way to stop it is to stop buying games that peddle it, publicly call out the publishers and developers that insert it into their game that previously did not need it at all.

This is just the tip of the iceberg for GaaS, worst thing about it is that you don't even own a license to use the content you buy, you don't have any rights to the fake money you pay real money for, if they shut off the servers they can legally do so without providing any kind of restitution or any kind of reward for time/money lost.

GaaS takes your time, your money and your rights away.

Forgot to mention, all GaaS games in one way or the other feature cheap psychological tactics that ensure you get hooked to the game and always come back for more, which does this game use? The skinner box or Operant Conditioning Chamber:

    https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Operant_conditioning_chamber

What this usually amounts to is adding RNG elements to the game, Yep, you guessed it right, the Star Tickets, they give the illusion of being fully random and that you have a one in five chance of something but in reality the Tickets are fake, What you will get from it is already decided by the game, probably long before you get the ticket, want to test this out? Claim a ticket and as soon as you get the thing, close the game and try again, you will ALWAYS get the same thing, no matter how many times you try.

Additionally some games go even further pick from a pre-selected list of rewards to give you depending on how good you are doing in the game or how specific your gameplay has been going compared to secret parameters, most likely refined and extracted from all of the metadata they get from everyone collectively playing the game, all of this effort, all of this is done for only one reason, to fleece you for content and make you pay at every turn, is is the most anti-consumer thing you can implement in your game short of actually taking money and being legally allowed to not give you anything at all, which is unironically called 'Gambling'.

This is a problem that the gaming industry inherited from the mobile game industry, IMO if developers and publishers want to make games that change the core mechanics to something that better fits GaaS then they should release those games on mobile systems where anti-consumer tactics are accepted and applauded.

I tried to look past the low polygon, low texture environment and background in the tracks. The gameplay was good at first until I got to the license A-8 and I couldn’t get gold thinking I was doing something wrong for 30 minutes I tried until I searched online and it turns out that the automatic update that installed when I first inserted the cd broke the game and made it unplayable. So I waited to play the game until a new update was offered to fix the problem and made the game playable. Three days passed I updated the game and it turns out that I couldn’t play it because the patch could erase your saved data and the servers were down for more then a day and the game couldn’t connect to the service so I couldn’t play my physical version of the game. That sucks that even purchasing a physical copy of the game you’re bound by their policy of always connected just so they can protect their micro transactions and keep tabs on how much you spend. Always online requirements for a mainly single player focused racing game that remapped the in-game economy to prioritize microtransactions. I have supported Polyphony since GT1, and now I guess it's time to say goodbye to the series.

Like GT Sport, the game adopts an "all about the drive" attitude, which for me really serves its purpose.

There was a 30 hour outage of the servers which accounta for many of the low scores. Anti -piracy techniques nowadays required an "alway on connection" which a lot of people "don't get". But yeah, if you require that connection, a 30 hour downtime isn't really acceptable. 5 9's uptime please!

A lot of the other low scores are reflecting the studio's decision to cut the payout in half for several races under the guise of wanting to stop people boringly racing the same race over and over to grind cash to buy cars. You cant do that, as the (at the time of writing) 2.8 user score suggests. However, I've played GT since the first one. The progression to me has always been win a race, get some money and them upgrade the car a little bit. I can still do that so I don't mind the payout cut. Micro transactions are optional and not in your face.

Always-online single player games should not exist as it was a 70 dollar brick for over 30 hours shortly after launch. Throw in a bunch of extra microtransactions, INCREASE the prices of them AFTER journalists publish their reviews and you have now eroded customer trust to the point that you deserve a 0/10

At currently 45K per fish race, I've given up for now on getting another GR.1 car that you can't use yet anyway. TS050 was only use-able in the 24 minutes of Le Mans with lots of reductions and added weight.

So I wanted to do another 3h 24h endurance race on N24 (8x time compression). I set the whole thing up, weather carefully selected to have lots of rain this time. Selecting a nice mixed grid from my garage, all the highest pp cars I have so far. And then I want to race and see my current car is still the fish rally car. Can't change it I press go race, the game informs me you can't use dirt tires on this track and throws me out, resetting all settings. FFS.

Shame on you PD, this long time fan has really had it with you right now. Yes I'll still do my race, I was smart enough to take a screenshot of my weather 'program' (random didn't generate a drop of rain last time) so will fill in all the details yet again. But have a nice 1 star review added on top of the rest.

Shameless micro transactions on top of a terrible in game economy and always online requirements so I couldn't even do a custom endurance race during the down time. Worst GT game yet.

The response to the community outrage by Kaz was a non-apology, telling us that GT is meant to be a long-term game, and that prices should "reflect the real world." In what real world does a championship race cup payout less than the cost of racing tires?!

It's disgusting, cynical game design and I am stuck with it thanks to digital downloads and Sony's ridiculous refund policy. It's a shame that we had to wait 8+ years for this turd. I will not be waiting for the next title from PD

As anyone who’s read these reviews will be fully aware, the game has recently received an update that has done nothing to improve the game but reduce the amount of credits awarded from many events, thus pushing the extremely predatory microtransactions. This is also after the game being completely unavailable to play for over thirty hours due to maintenance and the game being online-only. I will update this review to be more positive if positive changes are made to the game - starting with the very least of reverting the recent credits reductions. If you’re on the fence, do not buy this game. Do not spend any money on the game’s microtransactions. On an already full prices games. For example A custom 24 hour race in GT7 will payout around 250,000 Cr.

The game honestly started out great, but the flaws quickly came to light. Online only, meaning if/WHEN the servers go down you can't do anything. Additionally, they reduced how much you make from races, then say they don't want plays to have to repeat the same race over and over to get money...leaving just microtransations. Don't waste your time or money on this, get Game Pass and buy Forza.

Gran Turismo 7 has a lot of good and plenty of great. The use of DualSense and the particularly well-tuned loading is exemplary, and there's a huge amount of work behind the game, with a lot of detail that's almost hard to believe at times. [Issue#318]

Gran Turismo 7 is a love letter to motorsport history and an impeccable technical showcase. The franchise's traditional formula gets good improvements, but it's still extremely true to its roots. One of the best racing series ever shines spectacularly on the PS5.
