Greed Turismo 7… between the predatory nature of the economy of the game, the bugs, and the gap of time since the last real GT release, polyphony management should be fired. This is embarrassing to the point of comparison with Cyberpunk. The driving can be good, even great, but thats no excuse - the game is broken and needs to be fixed or Sony should be handing out refunds.

The fact that the MTX's were added after the reviews proves it was designed this way and they intended to hide this fact to sell copies which is deceiving the user base. I'm not even going to touch the point of always on requirement because everyone knows its BS.

This game doesn't even have all the newer cars to begin with. naming the missing few BMW M2/C/CS, Porsche 992's , Aston Martin Vantage, McLaren 7xx, BMW Gx cars, Audi RS5/6/7's and so many more. As a fact this game is missing most of the year 2017+ vehicles but don't worry, you can drive a Toyota Prius. This is the driving simulator they want you to spend so much time/money on.

The game economy is broken because its centred around the micro-transactions (MTX) milking model. The game has missing most of the new cars people would want to drive in a "Real Driving Simulator". You can't even sell cars to earn credits even though the PS Store page mentions it. Always online doesn't make sense unless its a way to prevent people from cheating to get credits which makes sense if they intend to make profits through MTX. The physics is decent but not the best. The car engine sounds are far from the real counterparts. Sense of speed is missing in this game and the amount of dialogue you have to go through is painful. They seriously couldn't afford to use voice overs? and IMO the Cafe should've been a side quest instead of the main one.

EDIT: Giving 5 stars for now since they have listened to the community. Will have to see how this progresses.
EDIT 2: They're back at it with milking its users through mtx's. One step forward 2 steps back strategy.

Sure, you can setup custom races but forget about any sort of reasonable payout. The custom races pay next to nothing, so again you are forced back to the same campaign races over and over again. Unfortunately, I think Polyphony saw an opportunity to stick it to their fan base and gouge them with obscene micro transactions. When some of the cars could cost you hundreds of real world dollars to buy in a game, I think it’s fair to say that greed is the focus of the game; certainly not cars. This game is a nice diversion, but I will promptly toss this on the shelf once Forza Motorsport is released.

Edit: Changed to zero. The online only component has killed this game completely. Sony and Polyphony have become the new EA.

Piss poor communication from the developer when their maintenance went sideways and the game was down for nearly 1.5 days.

Gran Turismo 7 in a nutshell: Pure frustration and disappointment. Grind. Scrapping for money. Free-to-play mechanics for a premium AAA game. Unattainable cars and un-winnable races. A pre-pandemic car list. But at least it's pretty.

TL;DR: Save yourself the CR70 and don't feel bad walking away from the franchise forever.

I'm a game developer. Specifically, I'm a developer of racing games. Which is to say, I know my way around the genre and this franchise. And to be clear, I've been playing Gran Turismo since it's first version back on the original PlayStation.

I don't know what happened along the way, but somehow Polyphony lost its way. In pursuit of being "the REAL driving simulator," they turned it into a life simulator with free-to-play and RNG-driven structures that lead to frustration and disappointment. It's just as unattainable to be "rich" in the game as it is in real life. Want to earn enough to buy that aspirational supercar? Strap in. it's going to take literally hundreds of races.

At the heart of the problem is an anemic payout system. Roughly speaking, a steady pace is CR100k per 10 minutes of race-winning laps. I haven't done the exact math, but it seems like GT7 pays out at a third or less of that rate. Can you sell a car to make some money back? No. Can you test drive a car before buying it? No. Can you make catastrophic purchase decisions? Absolutely. And there's not a thing you can do about it except put in another hour or two of racing to make that money back.

Then there's the RNG-driven features like the lottery tickets (loot boxes in ticket form) and the card shuffle. Inevitably, they'll dangle an okay or even a great car or prize in front of you, but their RNG (which hardly feels random at all) will inevitably give you the lowest or second-lowest payout. A Porche or a CR5k coin stack? Coin stack almost every time. An invitation to buy a ferrari? Great. It's still unaffordable by any reasonable standard in the game's economy. Here are two great cars and a **** one. The card flip will give you the **** one every time. Even if these features are truly randomized, by leaning so heavily on them in their unlock structure, Polyphony are setting you up for disappointment and frustration 66-80% of the time. This leads to anger. Which leads to rage-quitting.

Staying on frustrating for a moment, the way they put you at the back of the pack at the start of every race is beyond frustrating. I miss the days when GT had qualifying. This let you practice, and improve your chances of winning a race if you put in the time. Instead, you must pass a dozen or so cars every race, no matter what. The race leader meanwhile can sometimes start two or even three turns ahead of you. At Daytona, for example: by the time you cross the start line, the leaders are already into the first infield hairpin on the road track. This means you're overcoming a 30-second+ deficit with every race. If you don't tune your car up, good luck catching up.

Then there's the car list. I've yet to find a real car in the game more recent than 2019. It's very much as if the car list was locked at the beginning of the pandemic. Want a Corvette C8? No dice. AM Valkyrie? Nope. Porche 992 GT3? Most recent one is a 2016 991. The list goes on and on and on and isn't that deep to begin withonce you get realize they've once again padded their car list dozens and dozens of racing "variants" that only have different liveries.

My biggest grief--and one that very much plays into the nerfed economy and frustrating game unlocks--is the fact that it is nearly imposible to win a race without tuning your car. And because the tuning shop offers almost nothing in the way of guidance beyond some generic description of the part and vague references to what it might do for you performance-wise, and because many of the changes you make to your care are permanent (e.g. weight reduction, engine mods, etc.), you can easily drop double your car's original worth and end up with a useless, underivable backmarker. CR26k for tunable shocks? CR36k for racing softs? CR50k of weight reductions to drop a couple hundred kilos? I just want to win this stupid series that requires one of two pickup trucks in the game, not create a track day racing supertruck that I'll drive three times and never look at again.

Racing simulators should be wish-fulfillment at its heart. If I put in the time, win the races, and make smart decisions, I should be able to fill out my aspirational garage. Instead, GT7 frustrates you at almost every step along the way, so you quit the game that you paid $70 for long before you attain those dream cars.

Bottom line, I've yet to walk away from a play session without feeling frustration and disappointment. I'm done with this franchise.

The game is beyond grindy for AAA game that costs 70$. For example there are legendary cars that cost around 18-19 mil credits. With how things are you have to keep grinding the same race over and over and over again for the next 25-30 hours or spend 200$ via MTX. A week after release, and after reviewers have posted their opinions on the game, PD changed rewards (a.k.a credits) for races to be lower by almost 50%. This makes it virtually impossible to buy any of the high end, unique, and classic cars. Therefore, this will push players to purchase credits with real money. The previous title, Gran Turismo Sport gave players better chance of buying them. It was difficult but still attainable.
Micro-transactions are not forced on players, but are made heavily necessary to even purchase any of the Legend Cars that they advertised heavily. Now imagine if to play this game (that you have to pay) that has a ridicolous amount of in-game transactions (that make it borderline unplayable without paying on top of that), you also have to pay an online subscription. And since it's an always online game, when that online subscription service should one day ever end or even just go in maintainance (which already happened), you can't even play anymore (permanently in the case of shutting down, and for a while in the case of maintainance). If you have the digital edition you don't have even that though lmao. It's fine when the online functionality of all games is shut down (sad, but still, fine, and understandable), but if your game is an offline game with multiplayer content, you can just enjoy everything single player in it. Always online games, instead, just die when the developer decides to do so. The game is not yours, you're basically paying rent to play it. In 20 years of videogames I've seen all kinds of greedy **** but this is the worst I had the misfortune to ever witness. Just play some free 2 play racing game on the android store instead of this, chances are that will be less greedy.

Don’t listen to MetaScore reviews/ratings. I’m guessing they’re paid by sony or Polyphony. If they actually played this game for hours, days and weeks they would not rate it so high. The car list seems smaller than GT4 way back on PS3. It’s ridiculous. The company is now money hungry, offering micro transactions or basically forcing you to keep doing the same race over and over because all the other races pay hardly any credits. If you’re lucky you can squeak out 800,000 credits per hour. Some of the more expensive cars range from 1,000,000 to 20,000,000 credits! And I mean probably 150ish cars cost that much! This game doesn’t take very long to complete all your goals, so once you do, this is all your left with. Spending countless hours on a mindless track trying to collect your favorite cars for no real reason. Expand

Gran Turismo 7 has a lot of good and plenty of great. The use of DualSense and the particularly well-tuned loading is exemplary, and there's a huge amount of work behind the game, with a lot of detail that's almost hard to believe at times. [Issue#318]

Gran Turismo 7 brings to the tracks every single thing fans always wanted: the GT Mode everyone loves, plenty of customization options, car loads, classic scenarios and one of the best DualSense and 3D Audio experiences the PS5 has to offer. This is the best Gran Turismo experience we have ever seen in a long time.

Gran Turismo 7 is a love letter to motorsport history and an impeccable technical showcase. The franchise's traditional formula gets good improvements, but it's still extremely true to its roots. One of the best racing series ever shines spectacularly on the PS5.
