There is no other way of playing this game than doing what some text messages (no audio!) say. You have to be a collector and your collection will be dictated by an npc. You dont care about letting great cars rot in a garage and wanna focus on motor racing instead? Well, bad luck. Matchmaking takes years, no real penalties, UI is horrible (has been great in GT Sports), lobbies cant start races, people divebomb to hell and get no penalties.
    After a race, there are six screens you need to hammer the X button through before you can actually do what you want.

    This game is a absolute failure.

    Not joking: The first patch added some more music.

    Edited after a few months: The next 3 patches are in. The BOP is still completely screwed up. Lobbies still dont work and settings there cant be saved. Payouts are a bit higher but you still cant sell cars. But PD is starting the GT World Series now, so they clearly dont give a sh*t about these issues.

    A major downgrade from the last game. Terrible corporate greed and tone deaf gameplay loops. Cars can cost upwards of a $100 or hundreds of hours of gameplay. No excuse for it. Beyond that the "Cafe mode" is hilariously bad with the supposed "main career" feeling like an extended tutorial.

    I'm coming home after a hard day's work looking forward to playing a few races in GT7 just to find out the game isn't working all day. Ruined my day and probably the whole game, too! F*** you, Polyphony, your roulette tickets and your microtransactions for ruining a beloved gaming franchise!!!

    I finished "career" mode, and still can't buy any cool car because i've got no coins. My garage is quite empty too. Where is all the fun? Racing on a cheap ass car in a car sim game is not how i define fun. In fact, this is pure garbage. My first and last experience with GT franchise. Back to Forza.

    What could have been an outstanding game is now buried under a blatant pay-to-win economy because as of this morning's update, players who want to obtain any end-game content above a certain price mark are now faced with a choice between repeating the same races for hours on end, or, opening their wallet for microtransactions priced at GBP 15.99 for 2,000,000 in-game credits.

    As I said before, they've deliberately waited until the game is outside of PSN's 14-day refund policy to make this change. Absolutely scummy business tactics and I sincerely hope no one caves into to the microtransactions.

    PD is corrupt. The current game design is only pushing towards MTX, which is why there are issues like cars not being able to sold, events paying badly, invitations via roulette with limited time, limited car rotations, etc. All done to push the MTX, so you can get enough money to buy before...

    I have always been a diehard GT7 fan, but the microtransactions and the broken in game economy have really taken a shine off the game. The number of events in game are low, the payouts are incredibly low and yet the number of expensive cars is crazy high. Poor game design and balancing

    Completely ruined by micro transactions. Need invitations to buy cars for a limited period that cost millions of dollars and the highest payout is less than 100k. Sony/Polyphony Digital need to fix:
    1) The online-only requirement to play most of the game. Online DRM is never a good idea, and Polyphony Digital demonstrated this when most of the game was unplayable for over a day.

    Sony/Polyphony Digital need to fix:
    1) The online-only requirement to play most of the game. Online DRM is never a good idea, and Polyphony Digital demonstrated this when most of the game was unplayable for over a day.
    2) The ridiculous micro transactions. I'm not even sure calling it a 'micro' transaction is fair given how expensive the DLC cars end up with some costing $40 or more for a single car DLC.

    Sony and Polyphony Digital were also extremely deceptive when it came to reviews as the game we're playing now is not the same as what reviewers were playing. The changes around progression and micro transactions were only introduced AFTER reviews were published and since you can only play the game online, you're forced to take those updates.

    Gran Turismo is supposed to be a franchise that allows you to drive the high-end cars you'll never get to own in real life. No one bought this game so they can experience what it's like not to be able to afford the cars they want.

    For anyone considering this title, I would highly recommend getting GT sport instead which can be found for a significantly cheaper price. It also has reasonably priced DLC vehicles should you wish to avoid grinding for credits. Graphically, I don't feel GT7 looks that much better and the ray tracing mode which offers the biggest visual improvement only works during cutscenes. The campaign is good, but not at the expense of being able to own the vehicles you want to drive.

    At its core, there is a good game there and if it was free-to-play, I would understand why the game is the way it is. But as a full price $70 next-gen title from Sony, there is no excuse for the amount of grinding required to unlock vehicles or the ridiculous amount of real-world money you have to spend when you want to avoid that.

    There is also no excuse for the game not being fully playable offline. As someone who strongly believes in game preservation, I put a lot of importance on what is shipped on the disc. Sony needs to patch the game to be fully playable offline, but even if they do, long term the game is doomed into non-existence.

    I would strongly advise against buying this game until Sony resolves both of these issues.

    1) Can't sell cars anymore

    2) Some parts cannot be removed, therefore if you want a build without a part, you better buy another car

    3) Trophy for buying the same car 10 times

    4) Tuning in Sport Mode. Costs build up very quickly.

    5) No B spec to earn passive credits

    6) Rolling starts massively dispersed therefore more likely to build a high PP car to compete

    7) Car prices have dramatically risen, even since GT Sport

    8) Roulette prizes are clearly more weighted towards the lower end

    9) And finally: the moment a decent payout race was discovered, work began to patch it

    10) RWD handling completely broken.

    Better rewards for online race : yes it is needed. The rewards should be proportionnal to the difficulty. And the clean race bonus for online races should be much higher to motivate clean driving.

    Lobbies need to be fixed. Penalty system is bad.

    Custom races should have decent rewards too.

    As for selling cars we don't know the details yet, if it is like GT Sport it has nearly zero interest.

    New content will be interesting but won't conceal the big issues of the game.

    For the endurance races, I'd prefer it not be in missions, because I don't enjoy endurance and would like to be able to gold missions. If it is a race or a championship outside of missions, ok. And those who enjoy endurance will be able to gain the reward each time they do the race.
    And you better be able to save/pause for endurance races.

    Allways online should go, for all solo content.

    Original review :

    I've been waiting this game for years. And I am very disappointed by many aspects of it.

    Poliphony Digital went out of their way to shove micro-transactions in our mouth.

    And if it was not already bad, they patched it so earning money by playing the game is even harder now. But if you want you can pay a microtransaction to get that rare car you've received an invitation to buy. Beware... the invitation won't last long, better grind to death for days... or pay a quick micro-transaction.
    You loved racing online in GT Sport ? Well, beware too, you won't be able to, unless you follow the walled path to unlock the features you need (like MULTIPLAYER ONLINE...)

    And it will take you a lot of grind to get that precious GR3 car, oh and by the way, tuning is allowed, so if you want a slight chance to be competitive, don't forget to spend lots of credits on that, the parts are not free. Or else you can pay some micro-transaction to make the process faster.

    Ah and the used cars won't stay long in the shop, better buy your favorite cars as soon as you can. Worst for legendary cars.

    Did I mentionned you can pay micro-transactions to alleviate all that grind or get that rare car of which you don't know when you'll have both the opportunity and the money to buy later on?

    Oh and those talking heads repeating over and over the same lenient advices or "words of encouragement". OK Sarah I know I screwed up for the nth time my circuit experience sector, I am already not happy, I'll gladly spare myself to read your comments again and again.

    You like to click all the time ? You'll love that game, the UI most have been designed by a sadist. For example, to go from one sector of circuit experience to the next, it will take you no less than 8 clicks, 8 ! A simple "Next" button was too complicated to design I guess.

    And I haven't said a word about bugs, savefiles crashs, credits loss...

    I know I won't buy GT8 (and the PS6) if PD do not steer the boat in the right direction. Right now we are in the swamps and it does not get better.

    Fancy some cool music ? There's plenty. Oh wait, the music changes every 3 seconds if you change spot on the world map. You wanted to listen that song ? Better stop what you were doing, because as soon as you change place, it will change to another one.

    Fancy classical music ? There's plenty too ! But it has been massacred buy some guy with an electronic mixer and digital beats and other craps.

    Plagued with micro transactions and anti-consumer practices. I paid $70 for this game and can’t play offline during server maintenance that was intended to last 2 hours and has now extended beyond 14 hours.

    The payout of races was set to be reduced, further driving players toward paying real money for in game credits.

    Decent physics I guess, unless you choose a rear wheel drive car.

    Feels like a crappier, knock off Forza demo. Loot boxes and paid credits. Nerfed race credit payouts to push you towards buying credits. Would be fine if there were races to utilize the high tier races, but there aren't. Hardly any races. Probably a quarter of the constant GT4 had. Not worth 70 dollars, not worth my time.

    Oh, you want money? Then how about work for it instead of trying to fool and profiteer on those who made you who you are today? Shameful, disgusting, dishonoring, while insulting the intelligence of the most educated consumer markets in the world with the official response as to the reasoning behind the absolute garbage dump of a monetization strategy. It's beyond belief that a triple A with GT's reputation can reach such a user score and breach the top 100 worst rated games ever. And here I was, thinking nobody could sink lower than EA or mobile games. It reminds me of the fat man in the restaurant scene from Monty Python. I feel sorry for the vast majority of people at Polyphony and Sony that actually worked hard and put their hearts into making a good platform and a great game, just to be ruined and disgraced by such borderline criminal practices, like hiding the horrible monetization from early reviewers. It just blows my mind that a full priced game can have this level of predatory tactics that is beyond freemium standards.
    As a car guy, I hope they remove all DRM and real money transactions (I cannot call paying 200$ just for one car - without any upgrades - a microtransaction) from the game ASAP and let this be a lesson to everyone else who thinks we're idiots, but at the same time, maybe it's time the market sees what a triple A total flop looks like and GT7 can hold hands with Battlefield 2042 and jump off the nearest bridge.
    On the business side, I am amazed at the incompetency, complete absent-mindedness and just off-world thinking of the idiots who thought this was going to go well after the response to similarly greedy and predatory monetization practices in Battlefront 2 a few years ago. These people need to be fired and ostracized forever from game development.

    POST INITIAL '1 MILLION GIVEAWAY FIX' LATER EDIT:
    The score is still 0.
    Every reason for the appalling monetization mentioned by Polyphony/Sony is complete **** they applied an aggressive freemium monetization model and there's no possible way to pass specific features as 'mistakes'.
    So, if they addressed the initial freemium complaints, why still 0? Because they even dared to try it and the game still suffers from some disgusting remnants of their initial intention which is ramping up again:

    -there are races/events in the game where the only reward is a 'ticket', which is just a slot machine with rewards that is configured to give the smallest amount possible over 95% of the time, and when you don't get the smallest amount, the next best thing is an upgrade/tuning part for a car that you obviously don't own or even worse, a duplicate car;

    -all the car invitations are 99% for the most expensive possible cars, again a hard push for the store;

    -you still cannot sell, trade or gift cars (see main competitor Forza);

    -there are no updates with new actual features, only adding more cars in the game, in other words, just more content that you'd have to spend money on, thus more chances of you ending up in the store and spending real cash for cars you like;

    -there are no menus for a lot of iconic car brands, like Lamborghini, Maserati or Lancia;

    -the legend car prices are still going up;

    -there is no helmet/visor camera (see Shift 2 from 2011 !!!);

    -drifting is still incredibly hard even with a steering wheel + pedals with clutch;

    -the sensation of speed is inexistent under 200 km/h.

They’d want their game designed well, to be something you can pick up and appreciate again in 15 years time, but it won’t be - the servers will be down, and it will be forever broken then. (Though I’m sure there’ll be some nice privateers out there modifying & emulating it for us)

    - Update: Now they’ve “fixed” the issue with 1.08, but the game is corrupt and won’t start at all?! “Cannot Open this App or Game” (Reboot, eject/insert disc didn’t work - trying a reinstall now)

The entire career function of the game is gone, there’s very low pay outs for the races available and access to the cars you love and want is hidden behind a slow rotation in a used car market, and high end cars being invited purchases with a limited window to purchase. All designed to give the player “FOMO” and entice MTX purchases.A completely rigged roulette prize wheel that pays out the lowest reward 9/10 times. Wheel support is the most lacking in the series history, leaving little feeling of how the car behaves. The new tire physics model is broken, every car over steers and understeers at the same time.
    I’d strongly recommend people avoid GT7 for the time being. I’ve been playing gran turismo since 1998 and it’s really sad to see what’s happened with Polyphony Digital and Sony.

    Disappointing, Sony should pay a refund and make it again. The shame of the first-party game, only when the producer resigns, can the player be right. It's not worth spending 70 dollars, failing works.111111111

    Absolute trash. Worst micro transaction since GT and server maintenance is like a joke. Cannot play this single player game without internet and tons of money. Ridiculous. There should be no gt8 onward because gt7 is a big fck up

    This game is unfinished and geared towards forcing you to pay to progress. I wouldn't waste your money until it's finished a few years from now or PD has fixed the credit payouts...

    Online only singleplayer and an economy purely designed around mtx. Before 1.07 you could get away with grinding for an our or two a day so that eventually you can afford one of the legend cars. With mtx priced at $20/2mil Cr., or $1 per 100,000, what was the most efficient race has been reduced to the equivalent of $7/hr, down from the original $17/hr

    GT7’s career mode is infuriatingly short and linear. You are immediately shown the Café on the map which is where you complete the main career races in the game. You finish these in a completely linear format, winning cars along the way that you will use for following races. In previous titles, you had to make choices, you had freedom. You are immediately shown the Café on the map which is where you complete the main career races in the game. You finish these in a completely linear format, winning cars along the way that you will use for following races. In previous titles, you had to make choices, you had freedom. You were only limited by drivetrain or your car, and your skill.

    All of the thinking and choice has been taken out. Not only that, its painfully obvious the lineup café menu races were not finished, intentionally or not. It seems like either PD ran out of time to include races that utilize the I-B, I-A, or S licenses... or more likely they were stripped from the game to be graciously given (or sold?) at a later date. Once you get through the café menu and you beat the final championship (which only requires an A license), the credits roll... and that’s it…

    One of the “features” of GT7 is closer to real life pricing of most cars in the game. The main take away which leads into the next point is that cars, upgrades, everything costs more money relative to previous entries. For example, an R34 GTR is 400k+ credits.

    The design philosophy of this game is heavily influenced to push players towards micro transactions. There is no way to make a decent amount of money per time spent in any race to save up for the more expensive cars. Players had narrowed down 2 races which had the best payout per time spent. Keep in mind, these were the best methods of griding credits, not that they “good” to begin with. At best you were averaging about 96k credits/3.5 minutes = hours of griding a single race to afford one car. As of patch 1.07 they nerfed the payout of those races. Keep in mind, while other gaming “journalists” are towing the line for Sony/PD claiming this patch is fixing a “bug” that players were “exploiting” to farm “lots of credits quickly”, this was simply the most efficient method at the time, even then it was not very efficient. Especially in relation to how expensive cars and parts are in this game.

    There is artificial scarcity built in to the dealers where certain cars need a valid “invitation” to purchase which is only valid for a limited time. This mechanic is meant to induce a fear of missing out (FOMO), and to encourage the player to purchase credits with real world money. Also, the legendary car dealership features a selection of cars that are only available for a limited amount of time before they are swapped out, again inducing FOMO.

    In previous entries in the GT series, players could sell cars they did not need or want in order to buy something they wanted. Not the case in GT7, you can only permanently remove cars from your garage.

    Another hated mechanic has found its way into GT7, the roulette wheel. You gain spins through café menu races, and by completion of daily mileage driven. It is well documented by the GT community that the wheels spins are heavily weighted to nearly always payout the worst prize shown. This mechanic presents itself like it provides an equal chance of giving any 1 of the 5 items. However, nearly always it will happen to land on the smallest sum of credits versus a new car, or a coveted “invitation” to purchase a car at a dealer for a limited time, or even engine swaps.

    Engine swaps can only be won through roulette spins. You cannot buy them through the tuning shop like all the other car upgrades.

    These mechanics in combination are meant to push the player to purchase microtransactions. For example, if one were to surrender to the microtransaction demons and wanted to buy a 3.5 million credit Ferrari FXX after they got extremely lucky and won an invitation to buy the car within 14 days from the rigged roulette spins, at today’s priced of in game credits at $20USD : 2,000,000 credits, it would cost $35 USD to buy one car……. ONE CAR! And that’s not the most expensive car we’ve seen in game either. A jaguar that is 12M credits, which would be $120 USD…… I think these should be called macrotransations at this point, there is nothing micro about $120

    Game-breaking bugs including the 1.06 update changing the dirt tires on rally cars for off road races which made some races impossible to complete for many.

    The game is always online and needs to be online to function even for the single player campaign, not just multiplayer.
    The physics are great (outside of off-road races), graphics are phenomenal, and the sound design is fantastic. The livery designer is amazing, I have just as much fun designing liveries as I do actually racing. At its very core, GT7 could be a great racing game, if it weren’t for the aforementioned free-to-play-like/gacha mechanics that cripple any longevity this game had.

    The update on 17/03/22 has totally ruined what is a great game by reducing event rewards and further pushing micro transactions!
    Way to sell out, Polyphony!

    Gran Turismo 7 has a lot of good and plenty of great. The use of DualSense and the particularly well-tuned loading is exemplary, and there's a huge amount of work behind the game, with a lot of detail that's almost hard to believe at times. [Issue#318]

    Gran Turismo 7 brings to the tracks every single thing fans always wanted: the GT Mode everyone loves, plenty of customization options, car loads, classic scenarios and one of the best DualSense and 3D Audio experiences the PS5 has to offer. This is the best Gran Turismo experience we have ever seen in a long time.

    Gran Turismo 7 is a love letter to motorsport history and an impeccable technical showcase. The franchise's traditional formula gets good improvements, but it's still extremely true to its roots. One of the best racing series ever shines spectacularly on the PS5.
