    God of war Ragnarok is a superb game. Although I must say the first was a bit better. I didn't understand why they made some story decisions like pokeball giant stuff, Surtur and Sinmara, and Odin's mask that was useless in the end. The story in the first game was so perfectly crafted, the story in the second was just a good story but was hard to exceed the first. Enemy variety even if it was increased compared to the first didn't really feel a lot better you know, I hoped at least to make the enemies specific in some areas but after they would introduce a new native enemy in a realm they would just casually add it later in another realm. The acting and OST are so well done holy hell, really an amazing performance from the cast. Great game, for me this was the Game of the Year of 2022.    … Expand

    Lost and stuck in a fun house maze.
    The game looks so generic and similar that when I would take a 2 hour break and come back to it I was totally lost. Finally after 5 hours and stuck I said f this and quit.

    It deserves to win the game of the year award, it's perfect. I only saw two bugs in the entire game. 70 hours to get the platinum trophy, it's been the best hours I've had since I bought my PS5. The story is excellent and graphics are beautiful

    The users complaining that it’s iterating on the GOW formula must just not like GOW, because this is one of the greatest games ever made — easily the best presentation of a story ever told through the medium & some of the best action combat I’ve ever witnessed.     The game is the continuation of the Norse story told in 2018's GoW. The story is very good and one of the most compelling reasons to play the game. Beyond story the graphics, combat, and general game play are very good. If you have not played 2018's GoW I would recommend starting there and then playing this. Fantastic all around.

It focus so much on Freya and woman empowering that Kratos looks like a cameo in his own game. Theres is even a part when Freya said she would sure be able to kill Kratos to wich he dont answer! That surely a joke.

    Lets not even start on the boredom of Atreus and Angrboda's time in the land of the Giants. Filler content wich takes hour and hours of playtime i nearly fall asleep. Gameplay didnt evolve enough and in the end, a good number of mens in the game dies, while not a single woman do. Hmmm.

    The new Santa Monica doesnt know how to make God of War, lets hope Ragnarok is the end of the series.    … Expand

    This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. God of War Ragnarok a masterpiece of a game. I am huge nerd when it comes to Norse mythology, so playing a game that explores that type of world is always a blast for me. Even the God of War 2018 was a masterpiece.

    But now to actual storyline, gameplay and graphics of the game.
    Storyline: I like the duo of Kratos and Atreus in the game, father and son, surviving Ragnarok. The action, the adventures and the drama, all fits well in the adventures of Kratos and Atreus. And now that you can play Atreus as well, gives the player a whole new perspective of the game.

    Gameplay: The game mechanics is still the same as the previous game with a slightly different styles now that you are playing Atreus. But if the gameplay worked well in the last game because why change it in the newer game.

    Graphics: The graphics, on the Playstation 5, absolutely a 10/ 10, however God of War always had great graphics. No surprise there.

    in conclusion, the game was done well with a beautiful ending to a great story. I did feel that the God of War, Tyr, was a bit anti-climactic in my honest opinion, but doesn't really ruin the overall story. A great game to buy.    … Expand

    I'm a big Souls vet but I'm a bigger GOW fan and I would be happy with either winning GOTY despite GOWR being the best game I've personally ever played. Both Elden Ring and God Of War Ragnarok are masterpieces and the very best of their respective series so PLEASE stop making us Souls fans look bad and accept that God Of War Ragnarok is a masterpiece as well. May the best game win!

    The gameplay and exploration are top notch and the story is great, full of well-written twists and turns! But honestly, what I cared most about is this sequel, doing Kratos and Atreus justice and it absolutely did. Their relationship in this game feels like the well-deserved pay off we get after all they went through in the last game. I could follow Dad and Boi's story for countless more games!

    El juego se vuelve aburrido cuando juegas con atreus, hay problemas de bugs y la inteligencia artificial de algunos enemigos es muy mala, a la gran mayoría lo puedes vencer lanzando el acha y no hacen el intento de esquivarla

    Sony no se ha esforzado esta vez, el del 2018 si dio un salto.. este es solo algo más...no es ni siquiera next gen. Sony debería dedicarse a hacer peliculas y no video juegos... sus ''narrativas'' para niños quien quiere ser grandilocuentes no cuelan... sobre todo con personajes tan de niño cannis como el hijo de Kratos =/

    Juegas cada una de las más de 50 horas que ofrece disfrutando de una gran historia, un gran combate y evolución de los personajes, sin que se haga largo o repetitivo. Con unos gráficos y una jugabilidad de 10, un sonido espectacular y una creación de escenarios a la altura de todo lo demás, estamos ante una obra maestra.
    Sería mi candidato a GOTHY si no fuera por el Elden Ring.

    Story is quite good. Atreus still acts like a spoilt brat which is annoying and I think he should have been written a bit better. Also I don't understand why his name is Loki. Loki is the god of mischief which is Odin's son if you follow the mythological god's and this game clearly does. The combat still has many issues. You shouldn't need the red and yellow circles to know what type ofStory is quite good. Atreus still acts like a spoilt brat which is annoying and I think he should have been written a bit better. Also I don't understand why his name is Loki. Loki is the god of mischief which is Odin's son if you follow the mythological god's and this game clearly does. The combat still has many issues. You shouldn't need the red and yellow circles to know what type of evasive action you should do. It should be clear for the animation. Sometimes an enemy can hit and it blockable but then it does basically the same animation but it can't be blocked but instead evade. Also a major issue that breaks the combat completely is that you can goto use an ability and the enemies attack will start halfway through but you are stuck in animation so you can't avoid it. Why not make the enemies pause whilst your in an ability animation? I literally never use abilities because I know chances are IL loose a ton of health if I do. Why does Freya not need to say anything when using runic arrows but Atreus does? It's a bit inconsistent? Overall I think the game is a bit linear. For example climbing is locked to certain walls and you can only jump when the game says you can. It would have been great to make this a big change going into Ragnarok making the player have more freedom. Overall I just don't think they made any real big core changes to the gameplay. Everything just feels to much the same. Almost like this is more a huge DLC then a new game. Even the graphics haven't changed that much and I'm on Ps5. It's a great game but I did expect more something new to come to the table other then the story and some changes to the map.

    Also the berserker gravestones bosses is a bit messed up. Some of the attacks are completely out of sync with Kratos movement causing you unavoidable damage. For example if 1 where he shouts "fall before me" whilst your releasing axe throw the time your in animation is to long and you take a heavy hit. Or how it shows you can block but if you do he just follows with a second hit but your character is stuck in flinch. I'm all for high difficulty bosses but these bosses are completely broken and your basically limited to melee only combat without skills or ability's towards the second half of the fight due to the time they take. Ramping up the speed and repeating attacks multiple times is something I would expect in a PS2 boss fight NOT a Ps5 boss fight. Why not just design new attacks. These are sidemissions so obviously they get very little attention when it comes to bug testing. I've completed all the from software games so this isn't just a hot take.
    There is another one which reuses the same animation for 2 different attacks. 1 which can be blocked with a shield and another can't. When your far away from the boss and have slightly impaired site you can't always see the red circle clearly. This makes this hell for me. Who ever thought reusing an animation like that was a good idea should stay away from game development. These bosses literally have such little purpose in the game other then to drag the hours of playtime up. The Valkyries actually mean something but I don't even know what these berserkers are because it doesn't tell you? They aren't fun to do as they do the same attack over and over. They have tank health and attack windows are few and far between. If the mechanics switched up they would be fun but it's the same variety and even the same order of attacks start to finish? All it is just learn a button combination of shield, roll and attack then when his health reaches a certain point add a longer shield duration and more rolls. That's so lazy to script such basic mechanics. They couldn't even be bothered to randomise the attacks.    … Expand

    God of War: Ragnarok is everything I hoped for. When we reached the end of the last game, I found myself wondering more than I got answers for and this game answered a lot of those questions. It extends off of the last game perfectly with incredible character development and deep emotion. The actors have done incredible in this game.     If you just play the story, this game is near perfect. It's story is weaker than its predecessor but the game is still an absolute Masterpiece. Sadly the ending is pretty lame and the fun kind of fell appart for me doing the side stuff. It is riddled with bugs and I had to reload saves several times. The menu is pretty buggy too. With a little more time in the works, this game could haveIf you just play the story, this game is near perfect. Its because the game is lacking more of the epic and wtf moments that it used to have. Dont get me wrong, i love this game in every bit and form! But it is missing more of those epic moments rather than those intimate moments which are everywhere after the mid game and it sorta breaks the immersion and doesnt feel god of warish, it needed more of those bad ass moments. So overall the core story of the game just didnt do it for me, it felt like it was made for children and teens rather than adults or to the original god of war fans, but at least it ended in such a wonderful way and an open ending towards the next chapter.
    But other than the less bad ass moments and and somewhat of a let down about the story the new world of god of war is full of life! and full of content for you to do, its big enough to chew on and long enough to fulfil that satisfaction that the predecessor needed. With all the realms being unlocked, changes to the realms after the last time kratos and atreus have visited the realms, and more challenges and things to do and explore all the time! Even after 100% completion i still just want to go back and see how gorgeous each realm looks and feels. Combat is here in its glory yet its a hit or miss, with movements and attack changes that didnt seem necessary like holding the triangle button that you never use especially when you unlock the attack and perks that would charge your axe/ blades after a few hits, and no more upgrades towards rage and unarmed combat makes feel like a missed opportunity, tho you do unlock a whole new weapon later on in the game but ill keep my mouth shut for that, and probably thats why the whole change in combat was probably changed towards and saved for that, which you end up using the new weapon more down the line.
    Overall its a phenomenal game with a sweet soundtrack, amazing visuals and detail to the world, content, and combat. Tho the story felt like a slight let down and it did need more epic moments rather than these childish disney like acts, i felt like it couldve been the true masterpiece everyone was talking about. And i would definitely be coming back on NG+ for new content and to get a 2nd opinion.    … Expand

    What an absolute masterpiece. This game takes you in a rollercoaster of emotions, action, fear, discovery, and so many more. It just keeps you engaged from start to finish. I don't know how did the creators of this game did it but holly cow it is amazing. Kudos to everyone who contributed to this masterpiece.

    Truly a beautiful game, it's an enjoyable experience overall, but it has some major story writing and pacing problems, making it a somewhat disappointing sequel but still very solid.

    Final Rating: "Fantastic" ~ 8.5/10.

    Overdone and overstuffed. Excessively excessive. In the previous game I was struck by how often the game would NOT have a combat encounter when you expected it to, and it gave you the space to breathe. Not so much in this game, every moment there is a line of dialogue or an enemy encounter. It is a suffocating experience. Overdone and overstuffed.

    I am taking my time on this one and savoring every moment. Graphics are top notch, animations, acting. Solid game. I docked a point only because it didn't innovate on much. It's still one of those, "if it's not broke, don't fix it" situations at least.

    Честно, не могу сказать что это то, что я ожидал. По уровню эпичности естественно выше GOW 2018, а во всем остальном это та же игра. В техническом плане разница не большая.     Finally 100% completed and platinumed the game and this is definitely one of the best games I've ever played. This game is a worthy sequel to GoW2018 that adds so much more. The story is beautiful plus there's so much to explore and experience it makes me wonder if the haters review bombing and calling it a dlc have even played the game at all.     Although I am not finished with everything, I can confidently say that God of War Ragnarok is one of the best games I have ever played. I played this on a PS5 and was awestruck at some of the gorgeous places Kratos and Atreus visit during the story and even some places locked behind sidequests. Speaking of sidequests, they are greatly improved upon from GoW 2018.

    Each side quest feels actually important to do and help advance the characters in ways I didn't think possible or fleshed out the world. One of my favorites parts in the game happened when I completed the Hafgufa sidequest. I freed the first Hafgufa with Atreus towards the beginning of the game and when I later freed the second Hafgufa with Freya after freeing her from Odin's curse, there was a genuinely touching scene where Kratos and Freya talked about what they would do for their children while the 2 Hafgufa's decided to die to produce offspring. This scene made me tear up and seeing meaningful character development during a sidequest was incredible.

    The combat is also meaningfully improved and the story is absolutely phenomenal and the best part of Ragnarok. (I had more to say but MetaCritic isn't letting me write more than 2000 characters for some reason?)

    This is a must buy for everyone with a PS4 or a PS5    … Expand

    Selling the same game as "new" should be considered a scam, it doesn't innovate, it doesn't improve, it doesn't even provide a new gaming experience.
    It's so repetitive and underwhelming that Odin feels like Baldr with spells.

Why should we consider Odin as villain of the story? Others are constantly speaking ill of Odin while showing nothing of his wickedness. All the Asiers are depicted as evil and absolutely evil, and the audience is forced to accept their evilness. There are no gray characters among the Asiers. A predictable ending where Kratos fights Thor and Odin while contradicting the game's message of the need for peace and the condemnation of war.

    Such. A. Wonderful. Game. I play a lot of games for the story, and this exceeds every expectation. It takes a hardened, broken man, and tells an intimate and emotional story which explores the emotions behind letting those you love go for their own good. Coming of age, independence, familial love, all of that is packed in this gritty and tesosterone filled gore fest.

    No words can describe how great this game was. Amazing cast of characters, satisfying combat, amazing visuals and atmosphere and a lot of cool minibosses. This was such an epic conclusion to Kratos and Atreus story. 10/10.

    I am not sure how this does not have a perfect 10. I play a lot of games and this is one of the best games I have ever played in my entire life. This game does everything the first God of War did but much more and everything extra I was praying for.

    This game has a story that really grabbed me more than any book, movie or any other game. Being a direct sequel to the other games in the series it continues and grabs you so fast. You see Kratos doing and saying things you would never expect but they are in character and they do a good job following how he would act as he is growing as a person / god. His son has grown a lot to into a character I really like.

    You get to play as both of these characters and even though you do not play as the son as much he is still a fun character to play as. He has good moves, attacks and solid storytelling. The new characters introduced are all fantastic and just fun to interact with and hear what they think. The extra dialogue is so fantastic to hear. I loved every moment of everything this game had to offer.

    So my big wish was more killing animations. This game offers A LOT more than id ever dreamed of. Every weapon has unique kills, then there are special kills with your rage meter, and lastly, the boss kills are *FANTASTIC*.

    I am pleased at everything there was offered in this game and honestly, I did not even want to beat it. I was sad at the thought of completing the game. I did though and now im working on getting all the trophies. The game opens up after you beat it and you can't miss any trophies which is great.

    I didn't even finish it yet but Ragnork is barely perfect, and that coming from someone who would give the first game an 8. It is unbelievable how they make Kratos interact with a talking squirrel without that looking foolish. Every hour in the gameplay blows my mind with innovative stuff. Wow. Wow. WOW. Ragnarok might knock RDR2 from my pole. Amazing!

They should scrape the God of War series as it always sells 0 copies and no one likes it. The only way the next God of War could be saved is if they replaced Kratos with Jesus Christ.

There is a phenomenal plot twist near the end of the story and even as nonchalant a person I am even I couldn’t do anything but let my mouth hang wide because there was no way I could’ve really predicted it. Never has a game gotten me to fly out of my seat in excitement and stand to finish the game. God of War: Ragnarök took what was great about the 2018 reboot and continued forward. The combat may have felt stale to others which I understand. To me the combat felt similar but I enjoyed that combat so much previously that I did not mind. They made changes and included old runic attacks into the normal combos, one of which was my old favorite move for the leviathan axe. The thing that made it better in my opinion was a return to brutality in the finisher. Watching Kratos chop an enemy with the axe, kick them into the air spinning, and cleave them in two was a return to the old god of war we knew. Especially ripping enemies apart with the blades of chaos. The exploration aspect remains with plenty of side objectives to conquer as well. These added plenty to the lore of the story and characters. I found the interactions between the characters more humorous and charming seeing how they have bonded over the years between games. Now, the part of this game that DESERVES the 10/10 is the story. This was truly a masterclass in narrative and storytelling. The moments, the music, the action. All of it compounded into a story that will be remembered fondly by all. The game may start slow to some, after an intro scene that is one of the greatest game intros to exist. Side note: if you’re reading this and are the genius developer that had the amazing idea in the first fight with Thor, bravo. The game eventually leads into its title event where I knew I could not put it down till it was over. Truly an amazing experience that I will look forward to playing again soon. If you enjoyed God of War 2018, you will most likely love this game as well. Congratulations to the dev team. Enjoy this story my friends.… Expand

Every time you think the game can't get any better it one ups itself. The story is, in my opinion, the best story in gaming since the last of us. The combat is fluid, fast-paced and, of course, gory.     I can't help but tip my hat to the entire Santa Monica team. The deeper you delve into the game, the more you'll be drawn into the stunning story of a father and son against the backdrop of perhaps history's most horrific war. Throw in some casually endearing humour, great and fluid gameplay, and wrap it all up with an amazing audiovisual experience. [Issue#323]

It’s impossible not to recommend God of War Ragnarok, but just in case you had any doubts, I strongly advise anyone mildly interested in gaming to play Santa Monica Studio’s latest masterpiece.
