    Good game, the art and graphics were amazing one of the first games to fully utilize the PS5, the characters are alright but the side missions were just boring still overall a good game that i would recommend

    FFXVI takes the franchise in a new direction. The music soundtrack and vocoe acting is top tier. The story starts of really well with a mix of political intrigue and fantasy

    Love the combat, story and music. A perfect game. Xbox players and old bed-ridden Final Fantasy fans who can only play turn based can continue to seethe. This is a new direction for Final Fantasy and it NEEDS to stay.

    I will say this is one of the best final fantasy games to have come in .. the game is full of back story , and information on each character , each place you visit , you’re even allowed to pause cutscenes and pull up a guide that give back stories and information on any bit of detail you missed in case you don’t remember what something is. Normally you’re dropped in a final fantasy game and don’t know what is going on or only get fragments early on .. the combat is the best very fluid and the insane amount of combos that you can chain and pull together is mind blowing . The graphics are amazing , the storyline is gripping just first few hours of the game you’re already pulled in to triple A ACTION ! Absolutely incredible . Square Enix has been puting out a lot of hits lately and been really doing a great job with final fantasy . From the ff7 remake to this .. the characters and story line is absolutely incredible , character leveling is straight forward and simple nothing is overly complicated or overwhelming , the design and sound are some of the best that has been done in recent years this is definitely game of the year ..

    Absolutely loving it. I tell you what. The little details for me make it great. The more you move the stick the faster you run, no hud when exploring, the combat is the best in the series I've played for years. The story is very cool so far. Cid is the best character.

    LOVE IT. One the best FF game since FF12. Excellent storytelling, beautiful graphics albeit some slight frame drops in performance mode, phenomenal music and sound, and good balance between action and rpg elements.

Despite having a new game engine and years to optimize for a single hardware platform, I find nothing impressive in the technical implementation, except for the fast loading times (which are largely attributed to Sony's hardware and APIs rather than the game developers themselves).     This game is a huge step forward compared to FFXV. The combat, story, world, and exploration is so much more refreshing and better. My only complain is the quest system and how it feels dull. They added some cool RPG mechanics similar to the Witcher and Diablo so that’s a plus.

    Easily in my top 3 favourite ffs. Just behind ff9 and ff8 I belong to that gang who hasn't properly enjoyed an ff since ffx. I haven't played 11 or 14 But 16 is back to glory.

    As FF old schooler who has play since FF since 7 all back in 98 and all other entry's afterwards (and I have play 1 to 6 afterwards) I have to say I LUV 16! FF is my fav video game franchise of all time and I LUV the direction they took IN 16! I JUST LUV EVERYTHING ABOUT IT! That Bahamut fight was a ridiculous and stupid reminded of power rangers but at least power rangers knew their audience. I gave yoship and his team the benefit of the doubt with endwalker due to their concentration on this game but holy **** man respect the legacy of the game. Bad. Really bad.… Expand

    The game is not trash like a lot of people say, the game got some good stuff like the combat mechanics, also the combats are very immersive and fun, and the story is pretty good (is not the best videogame story but is good enough), the cinematics are pretty awesome and the maps are also good, the quick time events are great, and the first half of the game is fun in general, Final Fantasy 16 is a good game and it could have been one of the best Square Enix games but unfortunately it wasn’t. 6/10 final review    … Expand

    A fall from grace for Square Enix. I know we've had some pretty mediocre FF in the past but this is something else.

    SQ wanted to 'evolve the series' by turning it into an action game. Instead of really investing in creative action experiences, we get dumbed down systems, less customization than other actions games, and generic battles (with the exception of the cinematic ones).     In addition to that, the game looks very mediocre. There are times when it really looks good, but through 90% of your gameplay, it looks bland. Its almost as if the level designers behind Forspoken worked on this in their free time.

    The story is good, and what is keeping me playing it. But after 10+ hours its a drag. Everything is on rails, no point in doing side quests, equipment you won't have to work towards. Its all just there for you when its supposed to be.

    You'd probably have a better experience simply watching a playthrough on youtube.    … Expand

There are inconsistencies with the framerate in some areas, and sometimes the story forgets what it established 10min before.     Awesome game, story, OST and characters. Graphics could be better, as there are some beautiful environments, but sometimes you can see some downgrades with designs. Sidequests could be better. Regardless of that, this is my GOTY so far this year.

    Le jeu est assez simple, l’histoire un peu compliquée a comprendre, certaines cinématique ont des ralentissement de frames. Un peu trop de nudité et d’insulte a mon gout mais bon, beaucoup de scenes de combats répétitives.     I think it's the best Final Fantasy ever. A great plot and gameplay I hope to see more jrpgs like this. The old Final Fantasy's community is toxic, it doesn't matter what they think. Final Fantasy XVI is amazing. Congrats to Square Enix!

    Final Fantasy XVI es una obra maestra, la historia, el diseño de personajes son increíbles. El sistema de combate creado por Ryota Suzuki es muy inmersivo y gratificante, El apartado gráfico y el diseño de escenarios es impresionante. La banda sonora compuesta por Masayoshi Soken es fantástica. Logran llevar a Final Fantasy XVI a otro nivel de calidad!

    The story is very interesting and good, you always want to know how it continues. The game is a story driven so I already knew it would be good
    Speaking of gameplay, i found it very easy, not boring, but even with bosses its very hard to die. Developers also decided that during boss fights you get to respawn at the moment you died with full hp, and you really have no challenge then.

    Fetch quests at this time should be very low or nonexistent, but this game has so many of them and it becomes very, very boring.
    Speaking about exploration is personal: I have heard many people saying they prefer this linear way to explore the world, and many others not liking it. Personally I don't find exploration very funny.
    I found very bad their decision to completely eliminate the party, you only have to build the main character and that is very unusual for a JRPG.
    The OST is amazing!
    So I think ffxvi is a good game, but it failed in so many aspects imo.    … Expand

    This game nails all of these and does it like none of the othee non online ones have done since 7-9.

    Anyone that cant see this has not played the game or ignored most of the sidequest that are important to the games story.

    The people review bombing this game. Are just stuck in the past thinking if the game is not turned based its not a final fantasy wich is completly incorrect. Turnbased and final fantasy was more of a thing because it was the best way to work amd synergise with the story at the time due to the limitations of the technology.

    Legit no performance issues at all for me even on graphics mode. Yall prob to send your ps5 in for a rma if your experancing performance issues. I have not seen a single one. Probibly something wrong with your systems cooler or something.

    Quests are actual amazing and I want to do them for once. They are meaningfull and impactfull to the story and add depth to the story as well.

    Final Fantasy is finally back. This game has fulfilled my wants and expectations in every way. Love the story, love the combat, love side quests even (thank god it is not open world). and love the music.
    I can not really find a negative with this game, so I gotta give it a perfect score. Amazing game.

    It's so stylish. I like the combat and atmosphere of the game. The characters are also nice. The graphics is not good though! I think ps4 could easily run this game. Why is it PS5 exclusive?
    I also like the gameplay and the environment. Another problem is stiff facial animation. All in all, I'll give it a solid 9.

    This casts aside decades of an open world RPG based title for a character action game with linear game progression. If your expecting a game that keeps you engaged and looking for secret side content this will leave you disappointed. The cinematic interruptions constantly disengages you from the game play, and the linear fights remove any hint of exploration.

    Combat:
    The combat in FFXVI is everything Stranger of Paradise tried to be and more. An even better, and more cinematic, take on DMC combat combined with a better equivalent of SoP's on the fly job change system. The timing for optimal combos is tight, but the versatility and options available are incredible when used to their fullest potential. This combined with the best cinematic qte's since Metal Gear Rising makes for fights that will impress the player mechanically and visually.

    Story:
    It's Final Fantasy, and it doesn't disappoint. While some game journalists have accused it of focusing more on the magic than the politics halfway through, this is how FF has always been (hello FF7). Overall, the characters are compelling, the protagonist the best since Cloud, and the party interactions are charming and witty. The world building does not suffer thanks to the Active Time Lore system, and the Tomes system found 3-4 hours in.

    Graphics and performance:
    I was disappointed with the motion blur in the demo, but I'm happy to say it's no longer an issue with the actual release. When playing on Graphics mode, the frame rate is steady and the visuals absolutely pop.

    Overall, I'd rate this game somewhere between 9.5 and 9.9, as it's only dragged down by its side quests. The core game experience is some of the best out there and it goes above and beyond in delivering exactly what it promised.    … Expand

Combat is really satisfying and it runs very well on PS5, no frame drop I’ve encountered on performance mode. The 0 reviews I’m seeing are obviously from pansy starfield chodes. It’s impossible that anyone could give this game a 0 when it is a GOTY contender…those things don’t match up.The game is great so far. I’m thoroughly enjoying it right now. Really cool how they let you scale up or down the difficulty of combat so you can choose a more involved experience for when you're feeling like a challenge but also there's an option for an easier setting if you feel like more of a narrative focused experience.

    If i had a major criticism it would be the side quest. The game bombards the player with them and they are boring . Previous Final Fantasy games the side quests were subtle and enjoyable.

    I can say that FFXVI is a must play for fans of single player action games. It’s a high fantasy anime action story with tons of great moments and jaw dropping visuals and animations. It wont be for everyone, but if you want crazy good looking anime action gameplay, this is one of the best games you could buy. The focus on action gameplay, instead of turn based or heavy rpg gameplay, was aI can say that FFXVI is a must play for fans of single player action games. It’s a high fantasy anime action story with tons of great moments and jaw dropping visuals and animations. It wont be for everyone, but if you want crazy good looking anime action gameplay, this is one of the best games you could buy. The focus on action gameplay, instead of turn based or heavy rpg gameplay, was a great decision imo. The gameplay is very accessible for beginners but also has a very high skill ceiling for gamers who like perfecting combat systems. You’ll feel like a badass early but, you can become like a god tier anime protagonist after you practice and play with all the mechanics for a while. The side quests and sheer amount of cutscenes/dialogue can be a bit time consuming and even tedious at times. You can skip through the side quest dialogue parts, and though you can, I wouldn’t recommend skipping through the actual cutscenes as most have important story content and amazing visuals at that. Overall, if you like world building and story driven content in video games then the side stuff and amount of dialogue/cutscenes shouldn’t bother you. The graphics of this game are insane. Without a doubt some of the most incredible visuals achieved in a video game both in and out of gameplay. The performance isn’t perfect (drops below 60 at times) and there aren’t enough visual settings to satisfy everyone (no toggle for motion blur) but, overall, the state of the games graphics and performance is certainly good enough to play and enjoy at launch. The story is very anime like, in that I mean its a fantastical adventure that has romance, sacrifice, world changing events, epic battles, themes of loss and hope. Its over the top and knows what genre it is. This isn't a grounded realistic game; the title is “Final Fantasy” in case you forgot. I will say that this Final Fantasy’s world, while still being absolutely fantastical, is a bit more grounded than its predecessors, which adds a cool unique vibe to the game’s universe. I think for most fans of action games FFXVI will be an 8 or 9 out of 10. For fans of story driven games and action games it may be a 10/10. The pros definitely outweigh the cons.     GAMEPLAY is fun 10/10 and once you get all the abilities it just gets better. I finished the game but I still want to play again to try out a different build. It gets boring a bit but that's because I was trying to 100% the game so it kinda feels repetitive at the end (like every other game). The eikon battles are one of most cinematic boss fights I've ever seen in a video game. Better than any fromsoft games or GOW and that says a lot. The boss fights are literally the reason u should get this game. Dungeons are kinda bland like each dungeon has 3 mini bosses and 1 major boss. Dungeons are kinda small and all look the same the loots are crappy no reason to explore at all other than a THOUSAND of the same crafting materials that u probably won't use. And 2 gil(the currency). Crafting sucks here cause you'll probably only craft the purple gear cause their materials come from boss drops while they give u a lot of green gear recipes which are usually crappy.

    STORY wise 8/10 , if you're into politics, war and slavery, you would love this game. I couldn't really follow at times but that's where ATL (active time lore) comes in. In the middle of the cutscenes, whenever you feel lost you can pause the game and activate ATL and it really helps explaining the lore. Some warning though, I've heard a few who said ATL spoiled some major part of the story which shouldn't have happened yet. I guess a developer oversight. In between major boss fights are quite boring main quests. I understand its for the world building and the lore but I find myself getting sleepy with the dialogue which u probably shouldn't skip. I wanted to just get it over with and just rush to the next boss fight.

    Cons :
    The side quests 4/10 - Oh boy, there were some sleep inducing side quests. Just talk to npc A then B then to C. You kill some monsters and u go back to A. They never really stray from this formula even until the end of the game. Especially where they literally gave 10+ of these kinds of quests before the final boss. I was trying to 100% the game but I couldn't really bear the sleep inducing quests anymore and was just skipping through the dialogue. But there are really some emotional ones where u get to know more of the main characters. Some tearful moments too.

    The world 5/10 - Kinda empty? In the beginning you couldn't really venture out aside the main quest locations but it does open up quite abit further in the game but not too much. There were not any memorable locations here cause they feel kinda samey idk.

    The CHARACTERS are 7/10 some main characters they really should have fleshed them out more. Other than Clive, the characters feel a bit bland? The party members are real quiet in battle and they disappear during non main story quests. Some side characters like the leaders of each town were just downright boring. I hated doing their quests but you can't skip these cause they're main story quests.

    Overall 9/10. I LOVE this game the boss fights are just the best in video game history. Thats probably the reason u should play the game. Some cons but the pros outweighs the cons immensely.    … Expand

    Probably the best fighting choreography I seen in a long time, graphics are also top notch.

If you're a fan of the series for the stories and characters, you won't go wrong here, and if you've avoided the series for, say, turn-based combat, the sixteenth installment offers the perfect opportunity to get started with this legend of the gaming industry.     New numbered FFs are good again. Stunning to look at, with new, punchy combat, and a great yarn, it is, if anything, too focussed, lacking a bit of the weird. [Issue#30, p.78]
