    Great game beautiful world the combat system is difficult at first but makes some really unique combos its definitely an interesting change. The game explores some heavy subjects dying world, slavery, death, depression, war and change. It really pushes the console it was released on to its limits!

    Beautiful world and visuals, fantastic gameplay and incredible Bosses and mini bosses fight, you never know what's waiting for you around the corner, as a newcomer I really really dig this game I love it maaaan!

    The game has an incredible OST, a great story, and amazing graphics. Personally, I didn't like the art style at the beginning, but after a few hours, I started to appreciate it. The combat is good, the boss mechanics are nice, but it feels like it lacks something. However, it's still one of the best action combat systems for an RPG. The biggest problem for me is the exploration of maps; itThe game has an incredible OST, a great story, and amazing graphics. Personally, I didn't like the art style at the beginning, but after a few hours, I started to appreciate it. The combat is good, the boss mechanics are nice, but it feels like it lacks something. However, it's still one of the best action combat systems for an RPG. The biggest problem for me is the exploration of maps; it feels limited.

    This is a fantastic game. Been playing for 8 hours and I love it. Captivating story, sympathetic and charismatic characters (I love Cid and Benedikta), stylish combat, overwhelming cut scenes, and orchestral music. My best game ever (I am an old guy in my late 40s).

    This is what a final fantasy should be. it's not about the combat being turn-based or having a party system. It's the story, plot, characters, and music that moves you, The combat system is kick-ass but for me, it's the icing on the cake. Best game of the year so far and yes in the franchise as well.

    Top 5 Final Fantasy for me. Has everything you could want in a final fantasy. Action has a lot of depth if you are wanting it but is easy enough to get by if your not into action games. Deep story and interesting twists and turns.

    I played about 15 hours and liked about 95% of what I saw, the story, the gameplay, the world, the characters. everything is amazing i hope it stays!

    The game is amazing! The story only gets better and better the longer the game goes, the combat gets deep and fun, and the world is amazing and tackles the aspects of slavery in a very strong way. This will go up with one of the best Final Fantasy games ever!!

    What a wonderfull game. I've 50 hours on it and everything is still perfect. The soundtrack are really great, the character design and storyline are really dark without any taboo and (if you have some feelings) can make you smile, cry, get angry and a lot of others emotions. The graphics are amazing (you can stop anywhere and just enjoy the view for 5 or 10 minutes). The combat system isWhat a wonderfull game. I've 50 hours on it and everything is still perfect.     I cry maybe you will not, maybe you will not like this game at all, it's fine but if you got attracted by this title by the trailers or any other way believe me you must try this masterpiece that I personaly think it is.

    This is the best game ever made. The graphics are way ahead for its time, the music I ordered the ost straight away after hearing it was amazing and went well with the eikons or situations you constantly face. Also the gameplay is so smooth, Clive does exactly what you want him to do all the time. Seriously he stops perfectly when you let go of the joystick. Amazing game. Also the story isThis is the best game ever made.     One of the best story ever told in a game, almost cried at the ending. The combat system is funny and various while the graphics are really good. Maybe some secondary missions may seems a bit boring, but others adds some little details that let you appreciate more the game and the characters. If you like fantasy stories it is a must

    For so long, I've waited for an FF game to deliver on all fronts. 15, while I still rate it among my top ff games, it dropped the ball in several areas. 16 managed to learn from its mistakes. An emotional story with the best VA I've seen in any game. Great music and gamely. This is now my favorite FF game of all time. A must Play!

    I had been waiting for this game for a while, and it did not disappoint! Because it was the same team responsible for FFXIV, I knew we were in good hands. I love DMC-style games so I was open to the combat system, and it is quite customizable. The storytelling is phenomenal. Voiceovers are top notch. The score is perfect. The darker tone is something that I welcomed as well.

    I have played almost every single FF game, and this one quickly climbed the ranks of my favourites! It seems to be popular to hate on the game right now, without being constructive so I'll offer this little review of mine:

It seems to be popular to hate on the game right now, without being constructive so I'll offer this little review of mine:

    It's not for everyone. It's a dark, fairly grounded story that is an emotional rollercoaster. It more tha utilises it's mature rating, which may put some fans of the series off. But this shouldn't stop you from giving it a go, which is why the demo exists. And the tone of the demo pretty much sets the tone of the game: dark with lighthearted moments. Very much like the Witcher 3, XVI is set in a bleak, war torn world, but there is beauty to be found, and you learn to appreciate those moments when you get them.

    The combat is similar to DMC, with a dodge mechanic that's akin to Nier. It's very sharp and snappy, though I do which the base sword combat had more than one ground combo. As you progress, the Eikon abilities open up and let you perform cooler feats! But it's not a game you can have fun with by just mashing a button. You have all the tools for air combos, big finisher attacks, and a dog you can use to extend your combos. Experiment and have fun!

    In regards to turn-based vs action: no one if forcing you to play this, as they also didn't with XV and VIIR. If action is not your thing, that's fine! This is not the game for you. If like me you like action, you may find you enjoy this game like I have.

    My take of it is, play the demo. If you love that, you'll love the rest of the game. Stay away from toxic reviews, and make your own mind.    … Expand

    First off let me say, this is a great game. But how does it hold up to the entire FF franchise? Unfortunately I’d say it still continues the faltering trend of recent modern FF games.

    The good: -Excellent gameplay. Very epic. -Plenty of areas to explore -Interesting lore -Grim and tragic storytelling -A complete and self contained story -Likeable characters -Loads of side quests    First off let me say, this is a great game. But how does it hold up to the entire FF franchise? Unfortunately I’d say it still continues the faltering trend of recent modern FF games.

    The good: -Excellent gameplay. Very epic. -Plenty of areas to explore
    -Interesting lore
    -Grim and tragic storytelling
    -A complete and self contained story -Likeable characters -Loads of side quests -Beautiful battle music The bad: -Zero reward for exploring. There's no bonus cutscenes, quests, dungeons, or unique treasures to be found by exploring more than required. -The story is pretty predictable. And I feel like all of the epic/memorable scenes were reserved only for the big battles. Everything else kind of dragged. Not every cool scene has to be about a battle. What happened to scenes like the opera from VI, the parade from VIII, or blitzball or the sending from X? Nope. When it's not an epic battle, it's bland. And this was the first FF I can actually say how bored I was. There's sooooo much dialogue that doesn't even advance the plot. And to top it all off, they way dialogue is shot in this game feels so uninspired. Just constantly switching the camera back and forth between your character and the NPC who stands around waiting for you to approach them. It feels very lifeless and monotonous. -The story also feels very uninspired. The older FF games used to have a million unique story ideas and locations. These modern games seem to have one good idea and focus the entire narrative around that. -Even though the characters are likeable, they don't have much depth either. -There are far too many fetch quests -The most forgettable world music
    -The visuals are incredibly dark and grey. The most visually unappealing FF I've played since Dirge of Cerberus. -Finally, there were so many moments where it was obvious that the developers were trying to save money. For example, there were at least 2 dozen times where the cutscene fades to black mid conversation so that the protagonist can update the NPCs on the story. It's incredibly cheesy and lazy. I know I've complained alot here. And look, it's a great game! But it's not a great Final Fantasy game when you compare it to where the franchise once stood.    … Expand

    This is a great ff game. I love the medieval setting and how it’s an arpg. It feels great and plays great. I would highly recommend Al anyone and everyone play it.

    This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Every time I launch the game, I feel like I'm coming home. It's a world where I play as the main character, who is very well written. He's cute, kind, responsible, self-sacrificing, saving others, protecting the weak, and saving many from danger. I adore him and am a fan of him. Besides him, there are many other wonderful characters in the game, such as the …(spoilers spoilers spoilers) …, and other people who help save the world with us.

    I can explore new places, fight monsters, and make new friends. Each character in the game has their own story and motives, and I immerse myself so much in their world that sometimes I forget it's just a game.

    But I know that soon I will have to say goodbye to this world (I've almost finished it, progress 94%). I will miss my favorite characters and places. But I also know that the game will stay with me for life. I will remember it, listen to its music, and relive its events over and over again.

    Update 2 September 2023:
    I just finished playing the game and I am crying. It is a masterpiece, but for me it is not a happy ending, and the ending seems open-ended, I still don't understand if the main character and his brother survived, and what happened to Jill? I would like to know their fate, I would like Clive to return to Jill alive, and for them to go on a journey as Jill wanted. It's so sad. I hope there will be a DLC and we will see their fates, I want Jill and Clive to be together.    … Expand

    -Skill based wins feels satisfying beating these bosses.
    -Complex World building
    -Gripping story, flipped the story from a spoiled prince in 15 to a slave in 16 to free his people.
    -Shows the disgusting elitism of wealthy people seeing their slaves as disposable assets
    -Epic hunts that challenges all your senses.
    -Plot twists, character sacrifices, and complex story telling is all present like most final fantasy of high value
    -Epic music
    -Never boring* (except... first con)
    -Most side quests are great and shows off the people of each kingdom.
    -No bugs, glitches
    -Graphics are True Next-Gen but still some compromise still exist. A PS5 Pro might be required.
    -Open World game gives much to explore
    -Game starts off linear but switches to Open World after the Garuda fight.

    Cons
    -First few "side quests" are more like task and small fetch quests * Thankfully, it's short and does not apply to all side quests, only the first few ones
    -Very poor customization when it comes to gear, weapons and the such, all you have is a black smith to have a bit more attack that is very much optional. Contrast that to the Materia system of FF7 R, different builds and gives higher strategy.
    -Very low strategy involve, whatever you use will be based more on your game play preference rather than weakness and strategy.
    I have not encountered enemies being weak to certain elements and if there was, it's still more useful to use your abilities than not.
    -The World could be bigger
    -There could be more hunts, they are very good and fun to fight, we want more of these.
    -After ascension to have 3 Eikons, the game becomes much easier with many abilities to easily destroy your enemies. Smaller enemies are basically cannon fodder.
    -The existence of the easy automatic items, aside auto-Torgal, were never needed. All it cause is for trolls to bash the game without any justification. The game really requires skills and most players can handle it.

    Feels more like a Devil May Cry game than Final Fantasy but it's still an awesome game worth playing.    … Expand

    Gameplay, story, music, and not another open world game ( I was so fed up after completing Tears of the kingdom which is a great game too). At least give the demo a try, definitely worth it!

    Practically this Final Fantasy 16 is like a game in Beta, where the only complete element is that of the plot while everything else is absent. Especially the boring gameplay at QTE.

    I little background. I am an old school FF player. I started with FF1 on the original NES and my favorite Final Fantasy game is Final Fantasy 6(3). I haven’t enjoyed a single player Final Fantasy since 12. Now the review.

    Story
    The Story is good but it's not at the level I have come to expect from a Final Fantasy game.
    The story starts off very good but after a big story point about 25% in, the story becomes less enjoyable. This is because (been as vague as possible) they took something out of the story that was working and failed to replace it with something as good. Also the story becomes very formulaic with the game having the feeling like it's broken up into levels.
    Story is almost always serious and there isn't enough good story moment between the main characters. Clive had more relationship building with side quest givers than the main cast. Like Mid has more personality than Jill. Final Fantasy XV had many side quests but they didn't prevent you getting to know the 4 main characters.
    The side quests are for the most part very mid to bad and there is a very high number of them. Some of the later side quest offer pretty good stories but apart from 2 or 3 they don't do much character development for the main cast and so I found my self not caring as much and they aren't very fun to do from a game-play angle. The main cast is so underdeveloped it would be hard to tell which ones even count as the main cast.
    Because many of the side quests are miss-able it makes you feel like you need to do them but doing so really hurts the games pacing as your constantly getting a new wave of side quest to do and it also makes the game even more easy, it hurts the games otherwise good battle system.

    Game-play
    The world is pretty big and there are many locations to travel though.
    The game relies on the map screen too much, it really hurts immersion. The map comes together more as you play but it still very much map screen and teleporting focused.
    The the game auto runs and so if you want to explore at a more casual pace to take in the sights, it's very clunky.
    The battle system has been getting a lot of criticism but I think it is a great deal of fun.
    The controls of having to cycle between different Eikons is clunky and the Eikon abilities are overpowered which centres the combat around them too much. I found the combat more fun at the start when you only had the one.
    Some of the big Eikon battles can be extremely long winded and tedious despite visually been amazing. They just take forever to go down.
    16 too often feels way too easy, even with out the assistance accessories and I am one of these people who was wanting an easy mode in the Souls games and so, if this game is easy to me then it really is easy. There should have been the option of a harder mode from the start.
    There is a a bug were enemies are almost dead and they will walk to their starting position and reset their health to full. Normally in games you have to lead the enemy far away form their starting position for this to happen. In FF16 it can happen very close to it.
    Though I enjoyed 16's battle system, I personally prefered VII Remake's Action/ATB hybrid style battle system.

    Thoughts
    There has been claims that this isn't a true Final Fantasy game. Final Fantasy 1 through to 9 were all very similar in their game design and all been menu based battle systems (1, 2 and 3 been Turn-based and 4, 5, 6, 7, 8 and 9 been ATB) and also having top down overworlds to explore that functioned in a similar way to each other. Final Fantasy 16 is very different from those earlier games. 10 went back to been turn-based switching from the classic Final Fantasy ATB system but lost the overworld and the series has had more drastic changes since and so by now, change have become more than just story and world and been a bigger part of Final Fantasy and I think it's unfair to say Final Fantasy 16 isn't a true Final Fantasy game especially since Final Fantasy XV had already made the jump to action based combat with big battles against giant enemies. Plot also has many similar story beats to other Final Fantasy games like Final Fantasy XV. Main Character been royalty, father dying at the start, war between nations, the end of the world slowly creeping forward and city powered by a crystal. The story feels like a Final Fantasy story.

    The item system is useless and you can breeze through the game by using only potions.
    There is no strategy in fights, you just damage, damage, and damage. No status, no magic, nothing… And there are so many explosions of lights that you can not see enemies attacking.
    The pacing of the game is horrible with extremely long cutscenes for the main story where people walk slowly, talk slowly, stare, and repeat the same things over and over. Every motion is slow, taking a quest, giving an item to an NPC, displaying the reward screen. And most of the time you can not speed it up, it’s either skip it or endure it.
    The main story is extremely simple and always repeats the same pattern: The bad guy of the hour appears, side quests to solve to go to the bad guy lair, fight with the bad guy, repeat over and over until the end. The villain of the game is revealed extremely early and from there there will be almost no twists. Everything that happens is easy to anticipate. The relationships between people are strange and very cringy. Even the romance between Clive and Jill is not good. The characters that accompany Clive are dull and uninteresting. Their clothes and designs are so devoid of color and originality that they look like any other random NPC. And since you do not control them, it does not feel like they are part of the adventure. The story is also an uninspired copy/paste of Game of Thrones and Witcher 3 in so many ways that it’s impossible to find a shred of originality in it.
    The side quests are a complete disaster and just MMORPG like side quests, devoid of any interest and impact on the story. You could just skip them and be the better for it. Their pacing and fetching pattern is also horrible.
    The game has 2 lore characters that are here to give the impression that the story is complex and ends up telling you most of the time nothing: One of them tells you: The king will probably do something soon. How is that even smart?
    There is no exploration, no map with free movements. It’s corridor after corridor after corridor.
    The chocobos are nice because they make you gain time. Otherwise they are useless. Same for the Mog.
    The main villain looks like an alien version of Marilyn Manson and does not inspire fear.
    The main character is a little interesting at the beginning but becomes very dull as the adventure goes on.
    Also the power scale does not make sense in this game, with simple thieves challenging your character to fight when he has god-like powers.

    Some of the musical pieces are good, especially during boss fights (except a very strange techno music that is the most horrible thing I have heard in an RPG). But others themes are just copy-paste of older FF music ( FF VIII, FF XIV) that do not have their place in this game.
    The only thing this game has going for it is that it is quite beautiful. But this is often diminished by having a lot of dark and dull environments. This makes the world dull and everything but a fantasy world.

    Also some of the Dominants fights and the last fight are quite epic. It’s such a shame that they are so easy and simple. It removes all sense of stakes and dread.    … Expand

    Not sure what all the 0s are about. Oh wait I think I know. This game is a solid 9 for me. It has some flaws but I’m really enjoying the game. The boss fights are absolutely epic and this game is absolutely beautiful. The colors pop and the story is very good. Minus some motion blur issues and the obnoxious way the title for for each chapter pops up and after boss fights this game is excellent.

    I'm totally loving this game. It's the first time I've really enjoyed a new Final Fantasy game since the old Squaresoft days. I've never really liked any of the other Final Fantasy games that Square Enix had put out.

    At the beginning of the game I thought "WTF IS THAT ITS NOT FINAL FANTASY"
    After 10 hours I thought "meh, nice game but nothing special"
    After 25 hours I thought "great game and it's real Final Fantasy"
    Now I'm 50 hours in and I think it's GOTY 10/10. It's Gurren Lagann of Final Fantasies. And I'm still not finished yet. I already want to erase my memory and play it again.

    Judging FF16 on its merits! Story is great. Battles are awesome. The music is fantastic!!!!! Most side quests focused more on worldbuilding. It's definitely light on the RPG mechanics but its doing its own thing like every other entry in the series. A must-play experience in my opinion!!!

    3. Linearity of the narrative.
    4. Little iteractivity when interacting with the environment.
    5. There are no bears in the game and you can't interact with them.

I wanted to hate this game and return it immediately but to my shock this game is a solid 9/10 and it's totally new which means in 2023 it's a 10/10 masterpiece that surpasses Elden Ring and GOWR. I played all 3 and this game is much better on your first playthrough. GOWR is second, Elden Ring is 3rd and TOTK is 4th. I'm very unbiased as far as games go, I played every From Software game along with Elden Ring and I quit 70% of the way through because it was too much of the same thing. I finished GOWR and it was amazing but it was stale from the first one on PS4, I needed something totally new and FF 16 gave me that on a silver platter and I couldn't help myself it hit the spot man I'm telling you.     This games is great but stumbles a little bit here and there but is objectively, without a doubt leaps and bound better than the catastrophe that was FF15 and the snooze fest that was FF13.

    Square has been giving these gatekeeping “turnbased” kids way too much mind and I am glad they finally cut their toxic crap out. They have been holding this series back for years and finally, just like the Eikon phoenix, Final Fantasy has been reborn anew.

Side quests for the most part is basic and mind numbing but they do at least add to the world and some to the story. Late game side quests are actually good and worth your time. The scenes are perfectly acted with the right emotions, music to accompany them, and scenarios that will have you stressed out, shocked, happy, or vengeful. It’s very well done. When you’re thrown into a fight the game makes you feel the excitement before it, then rewards you with a great set piece afterwards. To those that don’t like tons of dialogue, why would you buy a game like this then complain afterwards??
    Without dialogue the world doesn’t build. The stakes aren’t defined. The interpersonal relationships and social issues the game wants to explore aren’t explored….. plus…. There’s a skip cutscene option. The amount of enemy variety is nuts. There were more enemies than I expected. Some fights I didn’t even expect to happen. As they say it’s “easy to learn, hard to master,” but I’ll definitely be playing Final Fantasy Mode to see how well I can do.     the game brings a mature and dense story, full of twists. The world is detailed and the battles are epic. the side quests are ok, but nothing that spoils the brilliance of the game as a whole. impeccable soundtrack.

    The game is very good the plot is nice and kinda different from previous FFs the combat is pretty cool. Love that the game is not open world cuz I kinda tired of open worlds. Not all games need to be open world is like Metal Gear Solid V for me the open world crap killed that game.

    What an absolute masterpiece in storytelling. This just might be the best Final Fantasy entry of all time.

    I have never been more enthralled with a story and characters in any media. The ending was one of the most beautiful endings to a story I've had the pleasure of witnessing.

    How lucky are we that we were able to experience something like this.

    Game is phenomenal. Story. Characters, gameplay, everything is so crisp. And this coming from someone who rarely play final fantasy. Good job on this one though

    Uma das melhores histórias de Final Fantasy. Final impactante. Todos os personagens, até mesmo NPCs, tem importância. Combate não tem muito desafio (No normal), mas é empolgante e gostoso. Alguns problemas técnicos, como baixa resolução, problema com FSR1 e framerate instável.

    Really disappointed with this entry. I was originally going to hold off as I wasn't overly excited by what I was reading during development, but I pre-ordered last minute. There are some great moments within the game, but unfortunately these are a scarcity amongst the monotony of lackluster side content and a world that doesn't engender the desire to really explore. The world also doesn't feel lived in for me - it feels hollow and devoid of interesting characteristics. The new direction on with the action is not one I favoured. I liked the turn based systems of old, the gambit system from XII, and the hybrid system of FFVII remake, but the full on action didn't peak my interest here. Interestingly I enjoyed FFXV's action orientated approach, but XVI just isn't landing. Overall it's another FF ticked off, but I'll hold fire on getting XVII if it takes the same path.… Expand

    Since FFX it’s a mind browning experience once again for a final fantasy game. I hope this is the start for new great final fantasy’s to come!

    The story is INCREDIBLE. The graphics are INCREDIBLE. And the combat is legitimately fun. If you play this game with no expectations of what it should or shouldn't be, you'll enjoy yourself. Run the game at 30 FPS in graphics mode, no issues for me.

    I’ve been playing the final fantasy games since I was a kid. I am definitely a die hard fan. 13 and 15 fell short for me, and I was going into this one cautiously optimistic since Yoshi P was a part of it. I am definitely not disappointed! I love this game, the story is amazing, the combat is so much fun, especially after getting more abilities. 10/10 for sure!

    Um dos melhores jogos de 2023, personagens incríveis, história envolvente e um gameplay de ação complexo com a possibilidade de executar diferentes combos e combinações.

    Extremamente recomendado para quem quer iniciar sua aventura no universo de FINAL FANTASY. 10/10

    Final Fantasy XVI is an excellent game in every way. If you're a fan of the series for the stories and characters, you won't go wrong here, and if you've avoided the series for, say, turn-based combat, the sixteenth installment offers the perfect opportunity to get started with this legend of the gaming industry.     New numbered FFs are good again. Stunning to look at, with new, punchy combat, and a great yarn, it is, if anything, too focussed, lacking a bit of the weird. [Issue#30, p.78]
