    One of the best in the franchise. My top is now FF7 > FF10 > FF9 > FF16. The story, the combat system, the music, the boss battles are just incredible. There are issues with the pacing like in most of japanese games, but thats all, at least for me. One of the best games of the year for sure and one of the best games in the franchise. Praise the Yoshi-P!

    This Game is truly brilliant.
    From the musical score to the story. A brilliant entry to the franchise, I have been playing them since I was able on the PS1 and this game doesn't disappoint.
    Excellent for fans of the game or new comers to the franchise.

    So I’ve tried a couple different final fantasy games and the story is always great but the gameplay/combat has never been my thing but with 16 the gameplay is really good combat is smooth my only problem with this game is the side missions are terrible mostly fetch quest not much fun.

    Literally the best game quality I have seen in an extremely long time. I had no issues with the game except for the lack of “rpg” elements but it is meant to be an action game. Take it from me, if anyone is being negative about the game, they are just doing it to be negative. Enjoy the game!

    Fantastic game I am almost half way if I had to guess and it keeps getting better. It’s not the traditional turn based action but I love it. My only gripe is Sony thought it would be a good idea to gimp a game again by making it a timed exclusive to PS5. I had to borrow my sons PS5 to play the game as I’m a a massive FF and YoshiP fan.     Jogo excelente com uma proposta inovadora pra franquia tornando gameplay, jogabilidde, história...muito mais interessantes. Só fica a ressalva da Square melhorar as sides quests, ainda continuam aquele viés pobre de leve e trás de itens, poucas são as que se destacam criativamente.     The combat in Final Fantasy 16 gives me a strong sense of exhilaration when I play well, and I'm satisfied. I like the story and the world view. There are some things that bother me, but more than that, it was a wonderful experience.

L'écriture du jeu et les cinématiques ont été faites pour nous touchées et nous projeter à l'intérieur d'un Univers du Moyen-Âge avec une couleur bien plus sombre que ce que Square Enix a pu créer auparavant .     The latest instalment in the legendary franchise brings a new spin on everything. The dark story, politics, characters, new real-time combat system, breathtaking visuals and locations and the most beautiful music all comes together to create this masterpiece. Recommend to every PS5 user. A must play.

    Took a minute to get into it but absolutely loving it now. Seen a lot of complaints about combat or side quests etc etc. Comabts brilliant if you learn it and play it properly and nothing wrong with the side quests, their no different to any other game lol.

    Anyone who calls it a 1 button mashing game shouldnt be playing video games, they dont know what their doing and are playing it wrong.

    What a phenomenal game! I loved the combat, the story, the world, the lore, and the MUSIC! So many great moments that blew my mind! Occasionally, the side quests and the inconsistent frame rate were tedious, but those did not hinder my experience. Highly recommend!

Peak fiction with story, characters, (especially Cid!) GAMEPLAY, the fight scenes and level of feats performed in the eikon and boss battles are INCREDIBLE! SQUARE ENIX LIVES!!! I hope this game gets future content and we get to beat the likes of Yojimbo, Leviathan, Anima, & Gilgamesh. Maybe even Warrior of Light. Regardless, the world of 16 is engaging. I also would like to point out that I hope there’s a patch that upgrades the frame rate focus. It has drops here and there. Nevertheless, great game. Definitely a GOTY level game.     The team that bought you Final Fantasy XIV delivers once again with XVI! A completely new combat system designed by DMC lead designer is exceptional.

    The scale of the Eikon battles are jaw dropping!

    The story does dip a little at times but does enough to keep you wanting to play. Along with the beautiful soundtrack by Soken it truly is a masterpiece.

    Incredible game!

    Beautiful action combat, interesting characters with deep backgrounds, immersive lore and fantastic world to explore. Linear yes, but in a great, concise and thoughtful way. 10/10. My game of the year so far hands down. Stands with the greats of the FF series and the JRPG genre as a whole.

    Wow, I played the demo (the first 2 hours) and was already captivated by the characters and world. Pre-ordered it and was not dissapointed, what a ride. Cinematics are beautiful, story is good and the combat is satisfying. MUST PLAY!!!

    An amazing game that has super engaging combat and a lovely story filled with interesting characters. This game feels like it's Final Fantasy going back to it's roots in a modern way given that it's no longer turn based. I'd recommend the game to anyone that loves a good fantasy world that's clearly been given quite a bit of thought.

    This new entry in the series is really good from the gameplay to the characters and the story even though it is heading into a different direction that older aren't really comfortable with I think they should at least try it instead of making assumptions that will hate it.

    Great characters, addicting game play, thrilling storyline, and fantastic boss battles.
    This game had me on the edge of my seat throughout the entire story. And the most important thing...you can pet the dog.

    I was skeptical about the move to full-on action RPG, but FFXIV floored me. On top of it all, an amazing setting, spectacular music, and one of the best stories in the series. It may not top FF6 as my all-time favorite, but it sure comes close.

    Quest design is serviceable at best, aged and mediocre at worst, 90% of them play the exact same and they get redundant pretty fast, during the main game it felt multiple times that a quest was added to pad the runtime, never bothered me until the ending of the 3rd quarter and by the end of the game, in the former there was a quest that literally led to me questioning my sanity given how little importance to anything it had, while in the latter... I'm not gonna go into spoilers but let just say a specific section might have been cut or shortened.

    The biggest problem with the quests however are the secondaries, all of them are the exact same and they get repetitive really, really fast. Were it not for some of the side character development and lore some of them offered I would have grown tired of them much faster, but by the end I was pretty fed up with the side quests sadly. The combat system is really really fun, it's not the magnum opus that was spoken of during interviews from a player standpoint but I think I know why they said it, it's got a lot of options and many ways to customize how you play and mawl your opponents, devil may cry this ain't, but some damn good action it sure be. (Altho it has to be said, it is on the easier side for habitual action game players, the lack of a fourth "hard" difficulty option together with the main two plus the NG+ final fantasy mode would have been appreciated. The rpg element is pretty linear, given the action game direction I don't wanna call this a flaw but it has to be said, the only real customization and rpg building will come in the form of which skills you acquire for your setup and which accessories you equip, weapons and armor are pretty linear otherwise, again, not a flaw given the context, but if you're expecting materia building, junctions or the ffx spherography, you'll be disappointed. The soundtrack is... Phenomenal, multiple times I just sat there going "WHAT THE HECK IS THIS MUSIC" and started jumping up and down in excitement. The voice acting (English) was honestly even better than I expected, every performer brought their a-game to the table and delivered one hell of a performance, I'm gonna use the main protagonist has a metric and say that yeah, they did one hell of a job. And now for the most important part arguably... The story. I have a lot to say about it but I'll start with the flaws, so that I can praise it to hell and back later. It has some very apparent pacing issues at multiple points, the worst being at the end tail of the game, it didn't detract too much from my experience (except the last part of the game, where I had to really swallow the pacing issue) but it has to be addressed, perfect pacing this is totally not. Not only that but some plotelines might be... I don't wanna say too ambitious but they might have needed some more work, it's already a complete package in my opinion but it's got some roughness around the edges.

    With the flaws put forward I will now speak from my heart, I finished the game yesterday night and these are my hot impressions about the story and it's resolution... It was everything I wanted if a bit flawed, it delivered exactly what I was hoping for, emotion, excitement, over the top final fantasy moments, it had it all for me, many times I was always left wondering "where do we go from here" or "wow... So this is the stare of the world uh?", more than one time the story made me sad, angry, happy, joyful and sorrowful, it is a flawed story from some standpoints, but I found it beautiful, flaws included. As you can see I am very subjective on this matter, I cannot give this the 10 I wanted it to deserve because the flaws are there and they are too egregious to ignore (I won't go into framerate issues, they are inexcusable but I don't wanna make a point out of them in this review), that being said, Final fantasy XVI is not a perfect game, it has some flaws spurred from some poor game design choices and the inexperience with the new direction the franchise took, however... It's an experience worth playing that hopefully will make you feel the same things I did, don't listen to review bombers tho xD. May the flames guide you all in this adventure    … Expand

    Final Fantasy XVI is my first Final Fantasy and I think it's great. I'm gonna explain to you why that's the case with a pros and cons list.

    Pros: - it looks magnificent (I think it's crazy what 3 year old hardware can do if it is used to its limits) - the combat system is just great and you can do so many different things - the cutscenes are beautiful - the soundtrack fits perfectly and    Final Fantasy XVI is my first Final Fantasy and I think it's great. I'm gonna explain to you why that's the case with a pros and cons list.

    Pros:
    - it looks magnificent (I think it's crazy what 3 year old hardware can do if it is used to its limits)
    - the combat system is just great and you can do so many different things
    - the cutscenes are beautiful
    - the soundtrack fits perfectly and drags you in this great fantasy world

    Cons:
    - the side quests are often quite boring because you mostly run from one npc to another, but sometimes the stories, that they tell you, make up for it. - performance mode doesn't give you stable 60 fps (the world and view make up for it and the fps seem to rise once you get in a fight)

    Conclusion:
    The game is overall really great and the story is beautifully written. I couldn't list cons without there being an upside to them so i think that says something. I'd recommend this game, also to anyone who hasn't played a Final Fantasy game before this one. Great game 9/10!    … Expand

The story is such that it is as yoshi p described - a rollercoaster - and it goes from incredible cinematic experiences to extremely calm and low key and back again, which only serves to make the epic stuff hit harder. I won’t say anything else about the story but it is gripping and lacking nothing. The music and visuals have set a new bar for games to strive for, the gameplay is exactly what the series needed and has not only revived ff but also drawn in a huge number of new fans, the boss fights are incredible and the vibes are excellent. Apesar disso eu optei em não equiparSem dúvida alguma o jogo mais épico dos últimos anos. A história, o combate e a trilha sonora são extremamente empolgantes. O jogo já começa com algo diferente, opções de acessibilidade em forma de anéis equipáveis que ajudam pessoas que querem apenas sentir a emoção do jogo sem precisar se preocupar em acertar combos e causar o máximo de dano possível. Apesar disso eu optei em não equipar esses itens, eu queria uma experiência totalmente manual e sinceramente quanto mais eu jogava, o combate se tornava mais incrível. Ele não para de evoluir, você sempre tem habilidades para comprar e aprimorar, o jogo não te limita. FFXVI é repleto de batalhas especiais e você sempre percebe o carinho que os desenvolvedores tiveram em deixar todas elas diferentes, são longas porém te ajudam a aproveitar e testar toda essa gama de habilidades que o jogo te dá. Sugiro observarem de forma carinhosa todas as habilidades da árvore, principalmente as habilidades especiais dos Eikons, são impressionantes. O jogo consegue fazer você se importar muito pelos personagens, como possui também uma abordagem mais "sanguinária" a qualquer momento você pode ver um personagem que gosta em apuros. A trilha sonora é contagiante, ela entra o tempo inteiro com as mais diversas melodias, das mais calmas e clássicas até a mais épicas e animadoras de todas. A história e o seu progresso segue como se a trilha sonora estivesse mudando de calma e leve para densa e empolgante várias e várias vezes, te dando uma boa sequência de combates gigantescos por um longo tempo e depois uma folga para você andar por aí e fazer missões pelo mundo. Um equilíbrio previsível mas essencial que funcionou muito bem.

    Apesar de tudo que eu amei em Final Fantasy, ele não é perfeito. Os gráficos e as expressões poderiam ser melhores para a nossa época atual, bem melhores. Além disso eu senti que algumas missões secundárias de fazer entregas e virar uma espécie de mensageiro não bate muito bem com a trama, o Clive tem outras responsabilidades mais importantes que poderiam ser desempenhadas em missões mais desafiadoras. As caçadas por exemplo, que é algo que o jogo libera em algum momento da história são muito legais, eu nunca deixei uma para trás, são épicas e recompensadoras. Porém, de qualquer forma, os pontos negativos são sobrepostos com facilidade pelos muitos positivos. Sobre aspectos técnicos do jogo eu presenciei quedas de FPS, de forma mínima mas é algo que ocorreu, também seria interessante eles entregarem 60 FPS no modo desempenho por 100% do tempo, sem a alternância para os 30 FPS.

    Esses são meus elogios e criticas ao Final Fantasy XVI. Um jogo épico, empolgante e memorável que deixa poucas penas de fênix caírem ao ar.    … Expand

    FF16 is up there with FF9 and FF14 as one of my favorite games in the series. The story is exciting, emotional, and engaging. It has the darkest tone of any FF game without being depressing and I love it. The spectacle and bombast definitely balances it out and it isn't like a FromSoft game where you're alone with your thoughts and don't see people for hours (still love those games). TheFF16 is up there with FF9 and FF14 as one of my favorite games in the series. The story is exciting, emotional, and engaging. The voice acting elevates the many different emotions you'll feel while playing.
    The combat is fun to experiment with and has more depth than you realize. As someone who plays a lot of DMC 5, I wish the game didn't hold back for the sake of casual audiences and people used to turn based. It just needs a couple more melee combos and increased base difficulty. I still had the time of my life regardless, especially in the late game.
    Level design is linear, which isn't bad, sometimes i prefer linear games, but it could do with better exploration rewards for the more open areas.
    The music has some of Soken's best tracks. In a series that had Uematsu for so long, Soken has made some of the best songs in the series. My favorites are Ascension, the Eikon Boss Theme, and Titan Lost.

    TLDR: Nearly perfect. With the positives greatly outweighing the negatives, a great blend of traditional and experimental Final Fantasy, Final Fantasy XVI ranks highly in the series and compares well to FFX quality wise.    … Expand

    Let's start with the good: the story!
    This is the best final fantasy story in a very long time, with characters both memorable and charming.
    The plot gives some "game of thrones" vibes that combine political intrigue with supernatural calamity.
    Regardless of your personal taste, it is undeniable that Square put effort into crafting an unforgettable world.

    But now there is the bad...
    This game doesn't want to be a game, the part when you are in control seem more often then not an afterthought.

    The "meaty" part of the gameplay is the combat and, for a final fantasy, it is very disappointing.
    Turn based combat has been replaces with a devil may cry action swordfest.
    Any resemblance of planning and "tactic" gets thrown out of the window due to a hectic speed and magic effects covering the screen.
    At points you would just button mash randomly because you don't see what you are doing or if anyone is attacking you.

    Worst, there are no status aliments, or elemental damage so any new power is mostly (not always but mostly) cosmetic.
    Personally, I would have preferred a more distinct "look and feel" for any new "power up" (a different weapon?).

    Even worse, the party system has been completely ditched in favour of AI companions that pop in here and there, with no control over their equipment and stats.
    Only Torgal, a canine companion, can be somehow controlled, but it never feels impactful or rewarding or tactical.

    Having said that, when the system clicks, it can be very fun, but not much final fantasy.

    Outside of combat, the game doesn't shine at all, despite having a wonderful world that kills any desire to explore it.

    In conclusion, if what matters to you the most in a final fantasy is the story, this will keep you entertained.
    If you are looking for gameplay and exploration and all the little things that made final fantasy special, I am afraid you will be disappointed.    … Expand

    I liked, even platinum the game, there are still flaws. A questionable and outdated game design but enriched with grandiose scenes that will remain iconic.
    The soundtrack is pretty good despite some dubious music choices.

    This game brought me back to my childhood. But not the childhood I had, the one I wished I had had.. where the PS1 / PS2 cinematics were the actual gameplay. The boss fights are incredible, the story is captivating and the combat can be intense. Timing is everything and it can be punishing sometimes. Tons of skills, tons of builds. My vote for GOTY.

    FFXVI est mature et s'adresse à un public large, mais aussi plus âgé que les anciens jeux. Il s'est modernisé dans son storytelling et ses graphismes. Il s'adresse aux adultes, est sombre, n'a pas pour vocation de censurer la noirceur de son histoire par le biais d'un style graphique daté ou des dialogues infantilisants ; ça en fait une force à mes yeux.

    Cela fait un peu plus d'une semaine que le jeu est sorti, je l'ai fini ce matin et il y a pour moi tous les éléments principaux d'un Final Fantasy réussi :
    - Des personnages attachants
    - Des musiques jonglant entre calme et grandeur épique, avec le thème des FF revenant régulièrement en leitmotiv
    - Des Primordiaux magnifiques et imposants, réellement terrifiants à l'échelle d'un humain seul
    - De la démesure dans les combats
    - Un héros humain qui ne se prétend pas dénué d'émotions pour être fort et convaincants
    - Les marques traditionnelles des FF dans les noms, terminologies et le bestiaire
    - Des monstres secondaires puissants à tuer juste pour la gloire
    - Un excellent storytelling pour une histoire épique, abordant un emblème des Final Fantasy sous un angle différent

    Un Final Fantasy réussi, donc.
    Rien à faire du tour par tour, ça n'a jamais été un critère, des jeux en tour par tour y'en a une palanquée en dehors des FF, et on peut pas réduire un jeu à ça. Les frustrés savent que c'est pas pour eux, mais ils restent, juste pour faire ouin-ouin alors qu'on savait des années avant la sortie qu'ils allaient être pas contents. Rendu là, on s'attend à rien.

    Cela dit, le jeu a quelques points négatifs quand même, pas ultra méchants mais qui peuvent baisser la note générale :
    - Les quêtes secondaires ont des animations digne d'une vieille PS3, on dirait des ports de FFXIV sur FFXVI avec des meilleurs graphismes presque.
    - Le système de craft est vraiment pas ouf, trop simpliste avec pas grand chose de personalisable, ni aucun intérêt à avoir des niveaux de rareté différents.
    - Les rouleaux d'orchestrion sont là juste pour qu'on use de nos gils, autrement on les dépense pas pour ainsi dire ; c'est dommage qu'il n'y ait rien de vraiment très important à acheter.

    Bref, pour moi c'est une réussite. Les points négatifs soulevés ne retirent rien à mon expérience de l'histoire et de la trame principale qui est époustouflante, prenant facilement une place dans mon top 3 des FF. Et mon Dieu, ces musiques, merci Soken !

I can see why longtime fans might dislike this game but for me as playing ff series, (6,7,8,9,10,15) this game brings all of those elements together while removing complicated battle/item/weapon configs and adding stunning visuals, flashy moves, emotions, to mechanics. The cutscenes are the best I've ever seen, the combat system is second to none, the esper fights are awesome, and most of the characters are damn well written. Some side quests aren't really good, but you're also missing out on real gems of the story if you ignore certain side quests. Just the quest Priceless, which is easy to miss if you don't check your mailbox regularly, touched me deeply and brought me to tears. I'm hoping for a DLC. Game of the year now.… Expand

    Lo que más echa para atrás son la misiones secundarias, ya que cortan mucho el ritmo y la mayoría de ellas son ridículas e innecesarias. El rendimiento es bastante mejorable, pero ojo, su diseño artístico deja unos paisajes top.

But i must admit, as a fan of bombastic spectacle, this game blew me away. The highlight here are definitely the boss fights. Especially the one against the Eikons. The eikon fights are all unique in someway, and impress with stunning visuals, captivating music, and fun movesets. The final boss was honestly, and I have played a few Games in my time, by which i mean a ton, was probably one kf the best, if not even the best fights i have ever fought, in all regards, music was awesome, moveset was challenging, visuals were unbelievably creative and appealing, and the villain is cool too. So Yes, the fights are great, abilities are interesting and all fun to use.
    Music was also on point, even tho the main battle theme plays through most of the game. But I don't really see this as a flaw, because that theme seems more like Clive's Theme, and not really the battle theme, so i can understand that. Also the theme fn slaps.
    Story was great ( even tho very cutscene heavy, which personally im not the biggest fan of) characters are well written, very funny at times, but also heartfelt, emotional, and Just really sweet at times.
    Gear and items are a more laidback System of the game, with Not a lot of personal effort required to be effective, since the Equipment doesn't do a whole lot.
    So Yeah. Honestly, i really really enjoyed my time, i wish i could play more with These characters, and i really hope more people try this game out    … Expand

If you're a fan of the series for the stories and characters, you won't go wrong here, and if you've avoided the series for, say, turn-based combat, the sixteenth installment offers the perfect opportunity to get started with this legend of the gaming industry.     New numbered FFs are good again. Stunning to look at, with new, punchy combat, and a great yarn, it is, if anything, too focussed, lacking a bit of the weird. [Issue#30, p.78]
