    This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Looking at the reviews posted on here I noticed 1 simple trend, xbox fan boys. These reviews haven’t even played the game. As a fan of the franchise since it was on the NES I can tell you this game was awesome, the fact you can play the beta and pick up the story along with keeping currency was an awesome take, the game play isn’t as boring as people make it unless you use multiple assists to make it easier with one hand. The story is articulate and a wonderful masterpiece especially looking at the open areas. This game is GOTY with nothing coming close to it.… Expand

    The dark fantasy tone, the world building and characterization along with its endlessly fun and intense combat has been a breath of fresh air for thr Francisco.

    The love and care developers have put into this game is present in every detail.

Look, if the thing that makes a final fantasy for you is not the plot, or the characters, or the writing, or anything else but its the fact it has turn based combat and thats all that matters then this is not the final fantasy for you. But if the thing thats most important for you is the story, The characters, the world, the themes, then this is the most "final fantasy" the series has been since the ps2 era. Any and all of the negative reviews ate gonna tell you the fact its action instead of turn based and the fact that *some* of the sidequests aren't quite at the quality of most witcher 3 sidequests mean its bad and I'm here to tell you those people don't understand what this franchise was always trying to be. Its good action combat if thats you're thing but if like me the gameplay was never the main draw of Final Fantasy and it was the plot, the characters, the themes of hope and friendship that drew you in, then this is the best single player final fantasy since the golden age and you owe it to yourself to give it a chance!… Expand

    One of the best games i played in recent years, yes it is no typical rpg, its a "game of throne / Devil May Cry Final fantasy", witch is an amazing combination.

    Not everyone have to appreciate the game, if its not their taste, but boy, everyone needs to appreciate that this is a Full Triple A Masterpiece.     I really enjoy the cinematography in almost every cutscene. I remember there was this one ambush scene where if you pay attention you see an axe in the corner of the scene for a fraction of a second. Then 30 seconds later that axe is hurled into a guys shoulder-blade. This game thrives on dramatic irony. You know whats going to happen long before the characters do.

    One of the best games ever. The combat, the story, epic boss battles, insane level design, gorgeous graphics, epic music. Don’t listen to the bad reviews, they’re probably xbots or woke media. A Masterpiece, loved every moment truly GOTY.

    Just amazing, the story and the boss fights with a masterful ost are really the highlights of the game! The gameplay varies according to the sequences too! I'm at 16 hours of play and frankly for now he has a place in the GOTY race against Zelda

The story is engaging and the combat always feels fresh and new, though the game might have it's flaws when it comes to exploration and side quests, the pros heavily outweigh the cons. The Eikon battles are reminiscent of the feeling I got when I played God of War 3 for the first time. Needless to say, a masterpiece.     Honestly this is the first final fantasy in forever I have loved. My favorites in the series (having played them all) my top is ff8 my second place is ff10. I'm playing ff16 stuck to it I love everything about the game it's a masterpiece and honestly might finally dethrone ff8 as my favorite in the series (haven't finished the game yet).     The game's biggest downfall is it's identity crisis. Anyone who isn't familiar with this series, all it takes is looking at videos of the older games. It is very obvious how drastically different this installment is. Even if you say "Final Fantasy has always been changing", the argument falls apart when you see just how little of the previous series is left. I'd be suspicious of a perfect score on literally any game. As for the identity crisis, it's a valid and hefty critique. What genre is this game? It may be technically an RPG, but it's RPG elements are poorly implemented, and so timid, that it's like they put the bare minimum in. I understand if you like the game, but pretending it's something it's not, is only adding to that identity crisis. It's not Final Fantasy, and it's barely an RPG. That's my personal opinion. If Square Enix branded this a new IP, and didn't try to force the game to be a poorly implemented hybrid of genres, some of the higher scores would be better warranted.… Expand

    Final Fantasy X was one of those games that make the case for the entire genre. Yoshi-P described the franchise the best I've ever heard in a recent interview when he said simply, "Final Fantasy has the best story, the best characters, the best graphics, and the best gameplay. It has Chocobos and it has Moogles. If it doesn't have all of that, everyone will hate you." It's important to remember how big Final Fantasy once was -- were it not for FFX blowing open the door with its undeniable greatness and high production value, many in my generation would never have stepped through it to experience the more hardcore JRPG's of its time like Nocturne and Persona 4. It really was one of the most prestigious videogame franchises, formerly neck and neck with a series like The Legend of Zelda, and had since then fallen far from grace.

    So it feels amazing to say that finally, after all these years, all those things that once were true about Final Fantasy are true again. I'm sure the effect that Final Fantasy X had on me when I first played it as a kid on PS2, Final Fantasy XVI will have on all the kids who get their mitts on it today.     One of the greatest game of all time i can't explain. Can't wait to replay it on steam next year ! I was sceptical at 1st but now, i'm blown away !
    The combat is detailed, the music is over the top and most of all : finally a good story !
    Sadly some other players who didn't played the game are review bombing the game bcs they are so insecure :/

    After being afraid of the changes I have to say I am pleasantly surprised. Although I still like a turn based system over the the hack and Slash we have now the story is one of the best in the series after 8 and 10 for me. The music is on a completely different level, it's amazing and get you're blood pumping and hyped.     Game makes up for it's linearity but just being extremely polished. Feels like FF 10 with a FF Tactics aesthetic. **** is review bombing it because it's clearly GOTY and they know it.

    I am 20 hours in, but I thought I'd leave a review after seeing this game being review bombed, the fact you can pet the Torgal means it should be a 10. Seriously though, the people saying it's only 2 buttons either don't know what they're talking about or have the accessories on that basically turns the game into easy mode, either way, the combat is as complex as you make it. The characters are incredible, the standout, besides Clive of course, is Cid, but I have to also mention Jill as she is a great side character as well. The side quests are hit or miss, but they're not shoved in your face, although there are these plus sign quests that unlock things, you don't have to do them, but I suggest you do because the things you unlock are very useful, at least the three I have done so far. The OST is top tier, all the boss battles I've done have had banger music so far. Speaking of boss battles, the eikon battles are epic, I thought they would be extremely gimmicky, and in a way they are, but the way they are handled and used sparsely, I personally don't think it detracts from the fights

    As for cons, the story takes a few hours to build, and with so many cutscenes, it could seem like a chore for some people. The lip syncing in some parts are not great. It takes around 5 or so hours to get to the point where it opens up, and even when it does, there's no real incentive to go exploring. Gear doesn't seem very important, you will be changing your gear a lot.

    TLDR

    After 20 hours of playing I'm hooked. I need to force myself to take breaks or I'd be playing all day. Don't let the 0 scores deter you, the story, although it takes a few hours to get going, is great. Music is top tier, combat has a lot of depth and is as difficult as you make it. eikon battles can appear gimmicky on the surface, but the way they are handled makes you not even think about it. Definitely recommend for both Final Fantasy fans and fans of action combat    … Expand

    The game is everything I dreamed of. Absolutely great story, nice gameplay (combat) and wonderful artstyl. It's a true Masterpiece! Furthermore I'm a big FF fan and all I can say is: It's definitely a real Final Fantasy game! Definitely the best game in 2023 so far. I wouldn't be surprised if it's going to be my personal GOTY.

The gameplay is so shallow and easy that they might as well have made it an interactive movie experience. Turd of a game, don't care if Yoshi-P name and CBU3 made it.

    After 50h, I finished the game. Although there are some issues such as the rpg elements, the game's strengths are so far and beyond what I expected that I had a really great time in what might be my favorite FF.

    Just half way through! I really do not nuderstand the negative reviews. It is an amazing experience. I do not give a 10/10 just for the combat as it feels "too much" sometimes, like "feeling dizzy too much". THe rest are amazing. Story, characters etc. I place it among the top 5 FF games.... and trust me I KNOW FF games since 1997.

    This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. The game tried to revolutionize its gameplay by adding hack and slash mechanics and RPG elements together but failed. The main reasons are the lack of the so called RPG elements: the party system, the elemental damage from the power of the eikons that you get, the alternate statuses, weaknesses and resistances from the monsters and bosses, secret dungeons and secret bosses. All of this aspects lacked from the RPG side of the game. As for the hack and slash side It was decent, doing combos was funny but It turned out monotonous since the enemies were easily destroyed with the ability ignition, except for the minibosses and bosses that allowed at least some variety by using for example Garuda and Shiva abilities for staggering, Bahamut and Phoenix for damage.
    The worse part of the game are the subquests and sadly only a few were good, the rest were fetch quests and defeat this and that.
    The main story was fine but a bit generic. It tried to be mature but It fell like an apple after the revelation of the evil god that wants to rebuild the world without humans because they're disposable tools. I played this game on performance mode and It was really disappointing to see soo many frame drops even during cutscenes, as for the graphics mode It wasn't that great between pixelated clouds and graphical errors on the desert I decided to remain on performance mode. In conclusion It was a disappointing experience that had a lot of downs than ups.    … Expand

However the aim system is kinda hard to me which enemies do I aim to, It's made me struggle when I tried to finishing move the formidable foe with surrounding adds, but to me it's fine that the combat system is bug free, I didn't get any bug whatsoever (combat 8/10)
    Soundtrack: to me that I'm gonna say that OMG. NO doubt this is Soken's Writing Song. I love every song each part story, world and combat. It made me feel so badass, sometime sad and overjoy feeling. This is a outstanding theme I ever I heard in this game. (Soundtrack 10/10)
    Summaries: overall I loved this game, I loved how the game made by Yoshi-P because of the story, the soundtrack and the combat. Not only is the combat fast and smooth, the story is compelling, the acting is superb, and the world is beautiful. The music kicks ass as always as well. I love the new combat design, its fluid, feels impactful and gives you freedom to design your combo/battles the way you want them to be.     Parrying and countering actually rewards you with good punishers.

    You can use Torgal (the dog compaion) to create extensive air combo's to shred through your enemies, you can use him to heal a part of your damaged HP Bar (similiar how agression restores HP in Bloodborne) and you can pet him (big bonus).

    The Story is overall really good. It doesnt stand up to my favorite FF-XIV, but its still a very solid good story. Boss fights feel important, impactful and shows that care has been put into them.

    The only real downside i have is that the early sidequests are really dull, while later on (about 10-20h into the Main Story) they become A LOT, and i mean A LOT, better. They are seriously morbid, and build up the whole notion that the "Bearers" are simple tools for the normal humans to be used, whether this ends up in their death, or not.    … Expand

    Amazing entry. Played every game since the 1st and this is one of the greatest stories of the lot. Yep it's different, but a shake up is good. The combat, characters, eikons (summons) and story are just first class. Congrats Square Enix, you completely delivered.

    What an improvement over FF15, the story is epic and battle is innovative, cut scenes are one of the best I have seen, one thing I don’t really like is the game is too linear, would be good if other characters are playable as well.

I just hope that for the next FF they will go back to the more RPG gameplay like 7-10 (even 12, 13 and 15 a bit). Overall the game has some parts where the plot loses a bit of its momentum but just to pick it right back up and multiply it by a ton. I enjoyed the game and even though it’s not the best FF it is still one of the best games I ever played. Absolutely deserved 10 out of 10.    … Expand
