This game started off amazing with a good story and fun builds, but it didn't take long to start seeing the MANY flaws.
Inventory management is horrendous with not enough slots to make it through a single dungeon run without having to portal back to town. Gems could consume nearly 50% of your inventory and would take up as much space as a 2h weapon.

The endgame is so boring with lack of content and lack of any activity that makes you feel like it's an enjoyable experience, and the itemization leaves you feeling like you are just wasting time. The world tier system was a good addition, but then they put artificial levels on when you could jump up to the next tier while simultaneously slowing down the leveling system making it even more slow and boring.
You are literally expected to run the same boring content over and over without any expectation of rewarding loot that is anything but marginally better at best. Even the higher skilled players are forced to grind an abundance of low challenge content ad nauseum just to check a level box to get back to more challenging content.
The developers have gone out of their way to suck what limited fun was in the game while introducing the new season just to have everyone have to start back over from scratch for a more painful and less fulfilling experience. I highly recommend people sit this game out if you haven't purchased it yet until the developers start playing their own game to see how awful it is and start making real quality of life improvements. It is all but unplayable in its current form unless you enjoy repetitive game play that is a huge step back from Diablo 3.

Started off with potential. Consumers gave them a pass on the early and still ongoing performance issues. However, with so many poor balance passes and strange decisions it's hard to recommend any time investment into this release.
The game itself, can be fun, but with some of the worse decision making ever seen, the confidence in improvement, at this point remains low.

    Gold sink is ludicrous.
Endgame content is nightmare dungeons, which are incredibly boring with all pedestal rocks - just let people zoom...
Characters move way too slow even if you drop highest roll movement amulets and boots.
    Cooldowns are long and boring.
If you played ARPG's for a while now, you will be able to identify all "builds" in 20 - 30 minutes.
And you will never feel like you made this beast of a character like you can in POE, Last Epoch.
With best possible gear it feels the same as with mediocre gear. Slow and repetitive.

They introduced 0 fun things for 1st season and increased the tediousness.
And there was already so so much tediousness in this game.

I played to end game (lvl 90) on hardcore from early access through the "preseason". Honestly might as well call it a beta test that you pay to play in.

Before the game released, blizzard said that scrolls of escape was the compromise for not allowing logout macros and that scrolls of escape will be automatically used in the event of a disconnect. On game release this was not the case and people were dying left and right to game crashes, power outages, internet disconnects, bugs, and even CASH SHOP UPDATES. Then the devs come out and say that scrolls of escape weren't working as intended and should be teleporting players out on game crash or disconnect and that it will be fixed...in Season 2. Really blizzard? This is literally a few lines of code to fix this but you have to wait 4-6 months before you can fix such a game breaking issue?

Then they decided that altar of liliths and map completion would become account wide. Great decision imo. Only for some reason we have to log onto the character that completed the altars and finished the map in order to "populate" the rest of the account? Again, there are two achievements associated with each respective feat. You couldn't write a few lines of code to do that automatically? On top of that, since you have to LOG INTO THE CHARACTER in order for it to populate to your account like we're playing some DOS game in 1992, people on hardcore that have characters that completed all the altars and map only to die to a CASH SHOP UPDATE....will now have to redo both even though they have both achievements unlocked on their account..

Are you sure you're a AAA company because you sure don't act like it. 0/10

The campaign is a weak adventure upheld by lore and aspirations created by a team more than 20 years ago. They had everything handed to them on a plate, instead, we got a fairy tale campaign without the gritty, destructive aspects of the true prime evils. We got an obvious expansion arc in the form of Mephisto the puppy, and Lilith, who shone in the cinematics but failed in every other aspect.

D2 LOD exploded a man with tentacles for merely challenging Baal, now, our hero doesn't even feel phased in the presence of the prime evil effigies.

Funnily enough, the campaign was the strong point of Diablo IV. The loot system is not rewarding, there is no identity to the loot system, stat systems are confusing and character development is pinned against bloated and unfinished paragon systems.

I find it even more astonishing that Vicarious Visions, a company known for its remasters had to come to the rescue and prop up the already gouged development team. I suspect that they were handed a dead carcass of a D4 MMO and then tasked with salving it into a modern ARPG.

35 hours is all I managed, I had to force myself to reach level 70 on my necromancer, desperately using every ounce of nostalgia to force-feed this junk into my fingertips.

No wonder Blizzard, sorry, ACTIVISION decided to axe TCP/IP support for D2R. It's evident that D4 wouldn't stand a chance against a modded D2R fan base.

The combat feels good and the leveling doesn’t feel too slow. The classes feel different enough. One thing Blizzard still seems to have with the right team and amount of time, IS good game feel. The sounds and the visuals are satisfying and the builds don’t feel one dimensional as Diablo 3 did and you actually can have versatile subtypes within each class like how a druid can build to focus on being a werebear tank, a wind/lightning mage, an animal whisperer, or a combination of it all. Similar with other classes too how sorcerers can have different elemental specializations and mix and match with beautiful and bright effects and punchy sounds.

The story seems to be one of those you either love it or you hate it.

It’s also a better sequel to Diablo 3 than Overwatch 2 was to Overwatch 1(which blizzard released as basically the same game lol).

Diablo IV does feel different enough and strikes a good combination of simple and complex.

And it’s an ARPG. You play it for the fun explosions and effects and getting better and better loot which this satisfies pretty well.

Sadly, as of launch, there isn’t MUCH to do in the endgame when you hit the later/max levels, but they have plans for seasons and expansions to add more. The leveling process and the classes themselves are fun though and you’ll get a ton of enjoyment out of it.

Edit: As of the Season 1 patch I can’t in good conscience recommend this game anymore. Anything that was bad is doubled down and anything that was remotely fun is nerfed. Leveling was slowed down, classes already gutted, itemization not addressed, endgame activities heavily nerfed.

Maybe I’ll edit this if they fix it but maybe I won’t bother like they don’t seem to bother with this game.

The newest patch is really poor. They've nerfed all the most fun stuff while making it take so much longer to access some of the best parts of the game. Helltides used to be a fun way of getting valuable gear, but now it's an absolute slog and will have you dying due to the most recent nerfs across the board. Pretty awful way to improve the user experience. Take it back!

I was enjoying the game for the most part, despite the fact that Sorcerers seemed to get the short end of the stick. But patch 1.1 nerfed them further into the ground before they even addressed the broken elemental resistances. Very dissapointed.

If you buy Diablo 4 expecting an ARPG like previous games in the Diablo series, you will be disappointed. There's less action, no depth to character builds, no interesting loot, and enemies level up with you, so you don't even get a sense of becoming stronger as you progress.

What you get is a uniform, drawn out "Hack & Slash game where Numbers Go Up"

At launch, the game was a slog at best - player power kept in check by every enemy levelling up alongside you, from start to finish. There is no feeling powerful in this game, even in the starting area. But with Patch 1.1, player power and progression has been significantly gimped even further, to the point where you have to wonder what the motive could possibly be.

And I think the motive is to cover up the fact that the game lacks any sort of depth or interesting loot whatsoever. Gems are worthless. Uniques are just souped up rares with a random aspect on em, that you can extract. Items don't have any identity beyond arrow up or arrow down. Crafting is basically nonexistent, and choice of skills and character builds has been dumbed down even compared to Diablo 3.

It's the action RPG without action, without interesting loot, without depth in character builds, and also you'll be running across the entire world - a huge empty map - for fetch quests over and over. Just walking. And you don't get a mount until you beat the main campaign for some reason.

Also, they're pinging you to check out and preview microtransactions whenever a new one becomes available... each costing upwards of a third of what you paid for the game. Complete insanity.

On merit of its game systems, it's not worth playing BUT
    Combat and visuals are solid.
Story, writing and voice acting is solid.
For those two, I award one point each. If you *really* care about the lore, consider dragging yourself through the campaign once. 2/10

I am extremely disappointed that the Diablo 4 team used nostalgia and amazing cinematics to falsely advertise for a game that is just not fun to play. I wont make the mistake of buying another diablo game or product. Extremely saddend.

They didn't listen to the things that people were actually asking for such as addressing inventory, gem, and aspect management. One of the games biggest problems is the inability to easily switch between builds easily. They've tried a new approach that makes switching builds super expensive. With diablo 3 you could find super mega awesome gear and switch your build up to suit that gear. Now, in diablo 4, if you find super awesome mega gear you better hope it matches your build unless you want to spend MILLIONS of gold respeccing. It's sad. Basically the goal is the game is to now grind for gear that matches your build instead of being able to explore builds freely.

Currently there are a ton of gems that you get and you only have 33 slots on your character...that means you'll be going back to are going back to town CONSTANTLY!! It's so annoying, Anywho, everyone's been asking for this to change and for the devs to rework this system to make the game more fun, but instead of listening to the player base and fixing these issues they instead decided to nerf everyone's players across the board, make the game more grindy, absolutely destroyed the 'sorcerer' class, reduced defensive skills across the board making us die more. This game is not for casual players anymore.

What I have such a hard time understanding is why is Blizzard trying so hard to nerf a game that is really a co-op game definitely not a true MMO competitive style game?

The endgame content is tedious, slow-paced, and repetitive.

But what has been most bothersome so far is the patch 1.1.0a released on July 18th. The developer treats us as if we're naive by applying nerfs to all classes, essentially saying, "let's throw away the 200 hours this person has invested in the game." Is it really plausible that a company the size of Blizzard couldn't foresee that characters would become too powerful? This could have easily been observed in testing, where the developers have access to every item, class, and level to evaluate.

After years of development, the team couldn't predict this outcome?

The solution would be so simple: creating new difficulty levels for the game, introducing difficulties V, VI, VII... This would be far better than wasting players' invested time in the game, considering that we invest not only our money but also a significant portion of our leisure time in becoming stronger, not weaker, in the game. Over the past few weeks, it's been clear that world bosses have weak damage and ridiculously low health bars. New difficulty levels were necessary, not decreasing the power of characters. This update has been extremely frustrating and disappointing. With over 250 hours in the game, I no longer feel any desire to play after this update.

There's a fair bit to like about Diablo IV — best-in-class sound design, intriguing character classes, fantastic graphics and occasionally addictive gameplay all feel like the series in its prime. However, even the best parts are let down by an undercurrent of frustrating design choices: the cynical inclusion of a Battle Pass, a bloated open world, repetitive mission structure and progression that too often feels meaningless cast a long shadow that let the latest Diablo title down. Future Seasons may refine what's here, but many of its issues sadly feel baked into the core experience. All but the most die-hard fans may wish to wait for a substantial sale on this one.
