    Battlefeild 1, a game that is 5 years old, has better graphics, better design, better class system, better maps, better sound. Battlefeild 2042 is a culmination of years of dice throwing excrement at the wall and see what sticks.

    Quite a few bugs, servers don’t work about 50% of the time. Maps are pretty large and I’m leaning towards that being an issue. Been a battlefield fan for a long time but at a loss for words with this one. Feels call of duty (ish). If you have to run anywhere it can take awhile, so spawn near a vehicle if you can’t jump right in the fight. Squads need to be able to work together a little better versus just MOBS of players swarming in on points. Pretty much an all out war that’s pretty open on most maps. On a side note the tanks and vehicles are somewhat fun and enjoyable.

    It's not battlefield. Maps and some of the worst I've ever seen, just giant empty boring spaces that have no real flow to the, the specialist system that just completely strips all team play away from the game (also no game/team chat), little to no destruction and the movement and gun play just feels cheap and unresponsive

    So far, my play time with the game has been mostly frustrating compared to any early playtime with a any Battlefield game. It’s just too buggy, clunky, some server crashing and just not much fun to play right now. Payed a premium price too for essentially being a beta tester.     Making changes nobody asked for, removing mechanics that made BF BF, adding specialists in order to make money because nobody cared about your useless skins in BFV, removing story mode because you’re lazy, using the pandemic as an excuse for an unfinished game. Hold on, I got more. Only having 7 maps on release & more than half of those maps are made for running simulator games, with noMaking changes nobody asked for, removing mechanics that made BF BF, adding specialists in order to make money because nobody cared about your useless skins in BFV, removing story mode because you’re lazy, using the pandemic as an excuse for an unfinished game. Hold on, I got more. Only having 7 maps on release & more than half of those maps are made for running simulator games, with no buildings to take cover behind. Everyone uses the same 3 specialists because they are the only “good” ones, there are Only 4 AR’s & 4 SMG’s lol what is this? a free to play game? everyone was using the same gun on release. Only 3 Secondaries, SMGs winning long range gun fights against ARs. Broken hit detection yet again, for like the 4th Battlefield game release in a row, it’s like Dice doesn’t care to learn from the mistakes. This is exactly what this game deserves & you have no one else to blame but yourself. Trying to turn this franchise into a Call Of Duty copy just to make your pockets happy & look where it got them. Lowest rating everywhere, lowest player-count after release of any BF game, nobody cares to watch it on Twitch & people who are forced to play it because they are sponsored by EA seem miserable. Portal is a shell of what it was advertised to be, Hazard Zone is hilariously bad. I am thankful for one thing tho & thats for helping me realize that pre-ordering a Battlefield game from now on is a huge mistake. And you got to realize that you pay a LOT of MONEY for a really small game full of problems with errors with lack of things that are in EVERY FPS GAME really weak balanced during the matches sometimes you fight against a lot of vehicles while you side have ZERO vehicles for more than 10 minutes, Bad destruction, few and bad weapons the list goes on and worst. IfThis game is REALLY bad.     I am very disapointed with this is BF2042 on PS5. It lacks a lot of basics, for exemple no 120fps or Keyboard/Mouse compatibility, what a shame, Call of Duty Licence and Fortnite both offer 120fps and Keyboard/Mouse compatibility on PS5. Wake UP guys. Thé game seems really screwed UP it's painful to see and it pains me to have bought it....

    Have played now for 2 weeks and here is my verdict.

    The maps are simple, boring, uninspiring and too flat, open and some lack details. Create a basic "future city" and add sand all over it, no need to add any details! Create the most basic "futuristic city" in the background and the whole map is a simple, undetailed boring park... The graphics on PS5 looked better on the Beta    Have played now for 2 weeks and here is my verdict.

Too many players. Get spawn killed too often. Guns are trash. Respawns are a joke. Get surrounded by enemies too easy because the way the objectives are configured. I used to praise BF for its state of the art sound design, but it seems they have left that behind as massive tanks and other vehicles can drive 10 feet from you and you won't hear a thing until its too late. Armor needs removed as well as it is not innovation, it is a gimmick that ruins core gameplay. Rocket launchers do not harm players like they should, C5 feels incredibly weak, there is no penalty to aim when jump and slide shooting. It's like this game is BF in name only. It truly wants to be something that caters to a different player base. One that is not tactical and requires very little thinking, and I hate it. I'm not mad, just disappointed at how bad this game is after being so hyped up. I have been a BF player for 16 years, and I have never been so let down like I am with this game. Also where are the score boards and voice chat? Why are the most basic features gone? What is happening to this company and why are people giving them a free pass?     Never was so disappointed, the game isn't ready to be released (considering how much time DICE had compared to cod games, it's just impermissible), the shooting is also weird (like from CoD), so the game doesn't deserve to be bought by any sane player.

    I hate this game. Bugs,glitches,hitbox problem's it in the game. If you have an LMG shooting 10 out of 100 bullets will maybe hit this is CQB. Wished I didn't buy it at all

    Questo nuovo battlefield (anzi COD), riesce a far sembrare BfV un capolavoro senza uguali. Ottimo comparto tecnico ma mappe estremamente vuote, tanti (troppi) bug registrati, modalità rivedibili. Potessi tornare indietro non lo prenderei manco per 10 euro. Siamo estremamente lontani dal vecchio Bf1.

Even though battlefield is known of bad launches this is in a class of its own. The other games where eventually fixed with patches (which is arguably still unacceptable that a game launches in that state) but this game in my opinion may be to far gone. From this point forward I will not preorder another battlefield game. I hope for the best but expecting the worst.… Expand

    I want a divorce: I’ve tried to defend this game but holy s**t, this game is terrible. The latest update has gotten my game so messed up, compared to last time I played. And also this shotgun challenge is a joke, not even worth it. This franchise has officially died, I’m just so dumb to not be able to see it soon. Farewell battlefield.

    Battlefield 2042, despite the horrendous launch that it had, has shaped up to be a perfectly competent and enjoyable experience that I have had the pleasure of sinking many hours into and plan to sink many more into, with updates still happening and planned. Dice has completely ruined Battlefield and Battlefront inside of 4 years. Our expectations were not “Brutal” as the whiny devs say. They were realistic. You could’ve literally given us Battlefield 4 Remake with more maps with the graphics of 2042 and new weapons, and everyone woulda been happy. That’s how low the bar is. And how far below the bar the developers actually fell. They tried to make a game for everyone who plays battle royal AND battlefield fans. That will never work.
    They are 2 different types of demographics who want different things. People buy battlefield to play battlefield, it’s not that freaking hard to understand this. Trying to combine both of those wants into the ONLY 2 FREAKING GAME MODES in the main game is really terrible project management. I don’t even count Hazard zone because Dice, from internal reports, has already given up on it on account of no one playing anymore after trying it for 1 match.

    You really can see traces of 2 different games that have nothing to do with each other here. One trying to be cool and edgy and hip, and the other actual Battlefield. Sadly it suffocates real battlefield and no one is happy. Everyone only liking and giving kudos to portal mode proves my point they could have just remade battlefield 4 with better graphics and more maps and weapons to the adulation of fans. 0/10

    2. The remastered Portal maps are really fun to play and a great way for newer players to discover classic maps.
    3. There are some genuinely awesome “Only in Battlefield” moments across the base game and Portal.

    Cons

    1. 128 players is completely unnecessary and doesn’t add anything to the game. With 64 players, I have always been genuinely affect the outcome of the game, but with 128 I am just a tadpole in a pond. Just like with the tornadoes, this was obviously added solely for marketing “WOW 128 PLAYERS!”
    2. Dice has traded Battlefield’s iconic destruction for this new player count and it was totally not worth it. Destruction as we have always known it in Battlefield is just non-existent. Who thought this was a good idea? It’s even there in Portal - from games over 10 years old! Destruction is one thing which creates those Battlefield moments!
    3. Specialists. *Sigh* I cannot describe just how much I hate Specialists in BF2042. This is NOT what battlefield is! I don’t want a f*cking hero shooter in my Battlefield game! Those voice likes at the end of each round are by far the most tone-deaf, ridiculous part to the entire game. I don’t f*cking care if you want to sell voice lines or stupid skins to kids at some point - THIS NONSENSE DOES NOT BELONG IN A BATTLEFIELD GAME! It’s not too late - just give us an option to play as grunts and this issue is mostly resolved.
    4. Weapon progression sucks. Your first weapon camo is unlocked after 30 kills and then the next one after 1,000. Then there is barely any difference between scopes (PS if you have to add the plus system to accommodate for such a vast array of ranges, don’t you think that your maps are a bit too big?)
    5. There isn’t enough content. 7 maps and 22 guns for only 2 MODES is shambolic for a Battlefield game.
    6. The map rotation is terrible. Because there is no persistent servers, you can end up playing one or two maps over and over again.
    7. The base game maps are poorly designed. They just aren’t fun to play - the only one I look forward to is breakaway. The others I either dislike or am indifferent to. I either spawn in and get killed immediately, or I run halfway across the map for 5 minutes and get killed immediately as soon as I reach the objective. This won’t be because I lost a firefight - it’ll either be a sniper far in the distance, or a heli will swoop down and annihilate me.
    8. Balance between vehicles and infantry is awful. Vehicles absolutely dominate every single map and it’s almost impossible to destroy a vehicle without a full squad completely dedicated to taking it out.
    9. The UI across the whole game is utterly abysmal. From the options menu to the in game hud to the weapon / class selection. It’s unintuitive and incredibly confusing.
    10. The amount of missing essential features is baffling; scoreboard, progression stats/battle log, no persistent lobbies, no class system, no diving while swimming, no naval vehicles, can’t spawn in passenger seat at round start, no additional points (headshots, assist, vehicle damage, squad wipe, multi kill etc), no squad points call ins for squad leader, no infantry-only maps. The actual list of missing features is actually about 20x longer than this - these are just the most annoying ones.

    Conclusion

    I heard that Specialists are a stepping stone for EA to turn BF into a hero shooter. For the love of god - if you want to do this then just MAKE A NEW IP! Don’t ruin a beloved franchise that millions of people have loved for decades!

    Whoever has been in charge of the direction of Battlefield during the development of BF2042 clearly doesn’t even understand what the game is. They have no respect for its history or the core fan base who have made the franchise what it is today.

    This game is an insult. Conceptualised and executed by people who have no idea what Battlefield is, and who want to turn it into a god damned hero shooter. This is the last straw. Dice / EA - fix this game and don’t you dare give us a full blown Battlefield hero shooter or I’m out.    … Expand

    Once this game is patched and finished, it will be a fantastic title. Depsite what you might be hearing about 2042, there is something to say about how fun this game has the potential to be. The maps, gunplay, and graphics are all very good. But the game is so broken that it's unplayable. Give it time, and this game may end up surprising a lot of us down the road.

There is a lot to comment on what is not right with the game. I think the overarching flaw is that 64 vs 64 doesn’t work with the way the game is designed right now. It is way too chaotic, and truthfully just feels like a massive scale Call of Duty without and real tactics. Part of that is due to the poor level design and poor weapon balance - it is way too easy to hit enemies from far away. So at any given point in the game, you are in the crosshairs of multiple enemies, and you have no way to strategically approach any battles as there are tons of open areas without cover. The class system is just confusing and poorly balanced, they are trying to appease way too many people - hero shooter fans, Call of Duty fans, Battlefield fans, Fortnite fans, it’s bad. That causes the game to lack any personality or direction. They just literally added everything into the mix. The menus are so convoluted as well, it took me way too long to learn how to navigate it, and yet still I don’t know where things are. A lot of other just odd decisions, such as hiding your kills and deaths? I understand trying to push for teamwork, but it’s hard to force teamwork when the 64 vs 64 feels like a free for all that barely rewards proper teamwork or strategy because it’s so chaotic.

    Like I said, it’s serviceable, but it needs so much work. To be fair, Battlefield V launched in a really awful state and I was not enjoying it at all. I went back and started playing it again a few months back, and it’s pretty decent now. As of now, this game isn’t even worth the $10 I paid.    … Expand

EA and Dice are so afraid of Chinese Communist Party backlash they won’t even put them in the game despite them being the only existential threat to the United States.     I am a battlefield hardcore to the roots veteran and this **** of a game really made me so disappointed in so many ways. i don't even know where to start. the gunplay is **** and unbalanced, assault weapons have no tactical advantage long distance over smg's, they created the PP gun which is basically GOD MODE GUN for all the noobs and silly kids to play with which basically has 54 bulletsI am a battlefield hardcore to the roots veteran and this **** of a game really made me so disappointed in so many ways. i don't even know where to start. the gunplay is **** and unbalanced, assault weapons have no tactical advantage long distance over smg's, they created the PP gun which is basically GOD MODE GUN for all the noobs and silly kids to play with which basically has 54 bullets and no recoil whatsoever and it's instant headshot. there are many more unbalancing things they introduced like a plethora of vehicles that are undestructable by tanks even, hoovercrafts that escalade the skyscrapers like there is some weird gravitational force pulling them to the walls. the specialist system is a **** that makes everybody run around with 2-3 specialist, the flying chick with unlimited handgrenades that can easily take out choppers and tanks with her guided like missile grenades that follow you across map, imagine being a very good heli pilot and there's no way to survive 20-30 players with hand grenades and also long loooooooong range Stingers that follow you everywhere even if you use flares. not to mention the other 3-4 enemy choppers too. the tanks that were so powerful in previous BF games, now are like biscuits. every stupid kid with no knowledge of the game can instantly destroy tanks. there is no skill gap, i lose almost 80-90 percent of 1 on 1 gun fights and even if i do shoot someone first, that person returns fire with incredible aim and precision and instantly kills me. it's a **** game with veryyyyyyy poooor performance issues like 30-40-50 fps a game and input lag that if i move the mouse, there is slight delay, also for keyboard, the delay is so annoying that i can't literally move or shoot anyone. there is no chance for you to win against multiple adversaries, like kill one, move to cover, kill another one. there will always be randoms spawns from all angles and one flag cannot be conquered by just one squad of brave men like previous games because every flag will suddenly be defended by at least 15-20 enemies so even if you run across map which is freakin huuuuuuuuge and it takes 2-3 minutes of your life to do so without the help of a vehicle, and you feel good about yourself trying to flank and outsmart the enemies, you will be killed by 20 players spawning to defend that flag. which will leave you with intense frustration and anger and confusion to why are you still playing the game because there is no tactical coordination for a team of 64 randoms. there are no voice to adress your squad, no scoreboard, no point to spawn on the map, the minimap is a **** with no visibility or posibility to zoom in. they completely destroyed the movement of the game and the aim is **** you cant track a player with scope and hope for a nice headshot because the speed of the players is incredible and they suddenly disappear from your scope when they running. it's like every meter they do, has a gap between and one split of a second that player is not there. so good luck aiming down sight and trying to be skillful. one of the worst thing is the performance which is a ****show even for higher end PC's. the maps are ok, waaaaaaay too big but they have their good parts also. they don't give you cars when you spawn so you can get to points easily, instead you have to run hundred of virtual meters to flags. you get killed by choppers, tanks, hoovers, squirels, snakes, chickens, rocks and basically every living creature shoots at you from all angles and directions and you can't get cover or a break anywhere unless you hide in a bush. the destruction of environment is **** there is no building colapsing as they advertised falsly in some released trailers and videos. some buildings won't break if you take your tank through them, like BF V gloriously achieved. they took out the ability to lie and move on your back to discourage camping but instead they let everyone call in vehicles on top of skyscrappers to defend the points there which are ultimately impossible to conquer. on all the breakthrough games i've played , those points were impossible to conquer, it's a defender's paradise. the game crashes many many times and many more bugs and unresolved issues like this game supposed to be delivered in 2042 not in 2021. they should have taken 2 years more to polish and finish this crap that even cost 110 euros. how can you pay that ammount for an unfinished garbage that will take months and 10 patches to solve all the issues? it's a disaster and i totally not recommend buying! go play COD!… Expand

The enemy spotting is broken, the sniping has been cut back on, what is with everyone being able to revive? A healing gun, seriously? What makes me laugh with all of that is now I can put a radio on when I'm in a vehicle, that's exactly what I wanted in a Battlefield game, a silly radio function. I knew there would be grapple, and wing suits, and all these silly looking specialists but figured it would still be the good old battlefield gameplay, but it's not even close. Can I turn off the character voices after the game? I really don't care about the different specialists, I just care about enjoying the game with some friends in squad. It's confusing sometimes to see either side of the match with the same specialists too. I found a great post on Reddit listing all the things that have been removed from this battlefield that was standard in previous battlefield titles, and it's a very very long list.

Thats about the only positive thing i have to say. Where do i begin? Lack of guns, lack of customization, NO SCOREBOARD ?? Console players cannot even see the simple stats that PC players can like kills and deaths while in game. Ridiculous. The Hit registration and TTK are extremely unpredictable, theres only 6 maps and it feels like you only play Manifest 24/7. I cannot believe what kind of state this game was released in. DICE and EA should be absolutely ashamed of themselves. The game industry HAS to stop letting games release in states like this. We paid money for a working, finished product.… Expand

Have had it since Early Access, and it hasn't grown on me much since... I'll stick to 4, 1, and V... Maybe someday this will be a decent Battlefield, but can't really recommend as it stands...     Only 2 modes in the main game outside of Portal and Hazard Zone, the latter which I have no interest in...
    No TDM, Rush, Small Conquest, Gun Master etc...

    I made an account just to leave a review for this game. I don’t understand how it is so broken. Most of the time my load out does not work and I cannot even spawn. This means that I have to quit the match and join another just to play a broken game. There is so much wrong that I can’t even be bothered.

    What online FPS doesn’t have a scoreboard?…

    There are so many features missing from this game that it almost feels like some other company saw the old games and decided to give it a shot and make a cheap copy. Visually the game looks stunning, but the awful map design, awful specialists system and lack of content such as weapons and maps make this BF feels rushed and imcomplete.     The badest battlefield i've played so far ... And i play since Battlefield 2 ..... People running everywhere, grappling everywhere + **** wingsuit, very hard to aim is there an aim assist ? No score or leaderboard whatsoever. This game is no fun and total **** I was hype by the 64 on 64 but after few hours i'll never play this **** game. Hell let loose is soooooooooooo much fun

    After owning all BF games this one should never have been released, I never have experienced a BF game this poor in so many areas, paid the full price but I fee they should refund everyone + 20% for wasting our time.

    This is the worst launch of a Battlefield yet. I feel bad for anyone who purchased a deluxe or special edition of this game. Specialist and trend chasing other games ruins the immersion and enjoyment of the series. This is completely tone deaf and embarrassing. 2042 has suffered from terrible decision making through-out almost every step of the creation process. And the bad decisions continue after launch.

    I feel Portal is the only good thing this game can offer but it's completely bare bones. This is the only mode that gets any positive points from me but ultimately this is also a let down. It is overall completely disappointing for $70 on the new console generation. I'm done with the series after this unacceptable entry. ​I highly recommend anyone get a refund if they can or trade it in while it's still worth anything. It's going to take alot of work to bring this game up to par. By that time it will be heavily discounted, on Game Pass / PS+, or Free 2 Play.    … Expand

And they didn't do this mode either =) 128 people were supposed to be the coolest feature.     This is not a battlefield game, this is a different game, it’s so boring with a lot of bugs and very few weapons, the servers are empty and the maps are very big and wide so you have to walk for minutes to get someone to engage with, this game is absolutely garbage and it doesn’t feel like a battlefield game

    While the repetition and lack of content cooled my enthusiasm a bit, I am excited to see where DICE can take Battlefield 2042 from here — if current industry trends hold, I’m confident this will be a strong addition to my already-full shooter rotation after a few months of additions and updates.
