    The Last of Us Part II is the best game I have ever played, everything about this game works perfectly, the story is heartbreaking, upsetting and really puts you inside of Ellie's mind and how she feels, the gameplay is basically the same as the first one, but better in just about every way, the new mechanics fit in perfectly, the graphics, the cinematography of the cutscenes areThe Last of Us Part II is the best game I have ever played, everything about this game works perfectly, the story is heartbreaking, upsetting and really puts you inside of Ellie's mind and how she feels, the gameplay is basically the same as the first one, but better in just about every way, the new mechanics fit in perfectly, the graphics, the cinematography of the cutscenes are marvelous. And the acting is one of the best I've ever seen in any game, props to Troy Baker and Ashley Johnson.
    The biggest problem that the most of people had (and that brought the review bombing to this page) was about the way it show us homosexuality. The game doesn't shove it in your face, they just took one of the elements that they showed us for the first time in Left Behind (The Last of Us DLC) and they decided to develop it a little bit more, by making this character having a couple that is a girl and is in the whole game.
    And the other problem that caused this review bombing was that this game's story is "politically correct" something that I will say that is completely false, because the majority of the things that you do during the story are on the opposite way.
    This game isn't for everyone, kids can't play it because of it's brutality, and the adults that should play it need to be open-minded and mature because of all the themes that these work of art show.
    This is Naughty Dog's best work to this date

    This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. I'm very sad to write this review, but this was probably the biggest disappointment in my entire gaming life (beside Watch Dogs). I want to say something very clear: the animations and the settings are absolutely fantastic, it looks like a movie. I've never seen something like this and I really loved it. The huge and terrible problem is the story and don't get me wrong, it has nothing to do with LGBT or things like these (I'm a LGBT supporter). The first 10 hours are actually good, but then there is an awful twist of events that completely broke the atmosphere and took me out of the game: you literally start playing as someone else. Not only, but as the woman that killed Joel and was the biggest enemy in the first half. It's ridiculous. I couldn't empathize with her, I couldn't care less about her issues or her friends and I couldn't play without thinking "what the hell is this? When is it coming to an end?". If I have an experience like this while watching a movie or playing a game, it's over. At least for me, I couldn't force myself to enjoy it. It's terrible. The whole second half is basically a useless filler that has no purpose except forcing you to like a character and a situation. It's boring, it's repetitive (you get into trouble constantly just to get to 25 hours of longevity) and it's completely out of context. Then, when you get to the ending there is another slap in your face (that's also absolutely predicable actually. After killing dozens (including dogs and a pregnant woman), Ellie just chooses to spare Abby's life because "revenge is wrong". You read it right. The game is based on a revenge story, but Neil Druckmann pulls the Uno Reverse Card to feed you trivial rhetoric after 25 hours of waiting. I'm sorry but to me this is unacceptable. This game really has a fantastic gameplay and superb graphics and animations, but that's it. It's a shame.… Expand

    Great game! Loved the whole story and made sense every single action of it. anybody who says otherwise maybe are just a bunch of kinds that don't understand that as people grow up so do the characters or maybe they didn't maybe finish the game. The graphics are really amazing.

    Excellent visuals, gameplay is good, nothing changed much from part 1. False advertisement in trailers (games are not movies people, please). The most important part of the last of us, which is the story, is very poor this time. Empty characters, their decisions make no sense. Plot holes everywhere.

    The direction this game was taken in story wise was a big risk but and not what a lot of people were expecting but I wouldn't say it was badly written overall. The gameplay, graphics and sound are a big improvement from the first game which is to be expected but it really is one of the best looking and sounding games out there regardless of opinion on the games plot. The sense of brutality and emotion in the last of us 2 never really drops off from stealth kill to gun fight to cutscence it will have you questioning you're morals and emotions from beginning to end. All in all a solid game with a narrative that is very rarely seen from a video game or movie so I rate it highly for pushing the boundaries of narrative driven singleplayer games, graphics and audio.    … Expand

I recently bought and played it after finishing the first one and i couldn't put the game down because i had to know what was going to happen. 2 days later i beat the game. Took about 30 hours and i didn't regret a second playing it.     Awesome story. It does not compare to the story of the first game, but achieves a compelling, emotional, and stressful sequel. Don’t let the bad reviewers blind you, it is the most compelling game I’ve played after the Witcher 3.

You all could have made the ending where Ellie and Dina would be back together again and that would make the game so much more positive feedback. But the overall story is pretty decent for the hours and design you guys make into the game. Just make sure to add better endings instead of making it disappointing. Being the most anticipated game of 2020 following the major success of its predecessor, The Last of Us Part 2 had some tremendous shoes to fill. It had to muster a thought provoking emotional story that rivaled the previous game, needed graphical quality that reflected the current generation, and gameplay that built upon the already flawless crafting and gunplay that we saw before. Yes, this game has its neigh-sayers, ridiculing the writing of the story-board designers because of the murder of a beloved character, but just because your favorite character was killed, doesn't mean the game isn't good, or you can't appreciate how they were able to build on the lore of the world, create new characters that you can relate to and mourn in their passing, and excel at moving beyond this departure of the supposed glue holding the previous game together.
    The LoU2 improves on it's predecessor in nearly every facet, notice I say nearly because I do want think Naughty Dog could've chopped up the story a little to make it less lengthy, but, that isn't enough for the game to receive zero's from fans on sites everywhere.
    The story was amazing, playing with your emotions from the the time you pressed play to the scrawling of the credits at its conclusion. From the immense satisfaction of being back in the LoU2's world, the moments of utter dread and sadness that came at the loss of our most beloved characters, and the anger that seethed within us, as well as Ellie and Abby as they embarked on their quests for revenge. You couldn't revel for five minutes within this decaying world without feeling on edge and having the sneaking suspicion that one of your allies would bite the dust at a moments notice.
    The passing of the protagonal torch from Ellie to Abby tinkers with emotions even further. You think as Ellie that you are in the right. You just trekked across the western part of the United States to seek your revenge on this mercenary party that butchered your beloved father figure, successfully perform said task, only to then change hands, see a new perspective, and realize that this world is not what it seems.
    You see that the world Abby inhabited wasn't too different from Ellie's. She had friends and family that she adored, a father who was lost, and a decision fueled by revenge that she believed would "make things right". But if there is anything that this game is trying to emphasize is that revenge isn't entirely a course of action worth pursuing, and that human beings aren't as reliable as we initially think. The story blurs the line between who is truly good and evil, and emphasizes that humans are incredibly prone to mistakes and acting rashly due to fits of rage and emotionally driven agendas.
    When I assumed the role of Abby I was disturbed by the fact that the characters I had killed were not mere evil-doers who deserved to get axed, but people who were a part of a loving and cohesive society just trying to live in this outbreak-stricken world. They had families, lovers, companions, just like anyone who was back in Jackson, or even Ellie herself, but due to our lack of knowledge we found ourselves rooting for someone who is clearly not on the correct side of the moral compass.
    This is what I love about the LoU2. This dichotomy presented between Abby and Ellie is not drastically different as we once thought and I love that the game forces us to consider who is the faction we should showing allegiance to.
    But I think there is another underlying message; that we are supposed to be combating the scourge of infected that inhabit our world rather than one another. Unify, instead of oppose one another creating bloodshed.
    This point is what I think a lot of people are missing and I think its poignant that we are reintroduced to that fact at the conclusion of the game when we discover that the Fireflies are not an extinct organization like we thought. There is still a chance to beat this virus and save humanity. But I guess we'll have to wait and see for when the sequel rolls around.
    Moving on from the topic of the story, the game is visually stunning and, debatably the most visually appealing game to come out this generation! The characters models are incredibly life-like, the textures and light exposure mirror reality, and dilapidated world that you are wading through is lush, green, and forgotten, adding to the magic of The Last of Us.
    The combat is is crisp and fluid, every encounter with an enemy is full of grit and viscera, and you teeter between feeling like an action-movie star to a mere mortal fighting for your life. To make this combat possible you have to craft weapons, survival gear and anything else that will help you best the fungal beasts and the gun-wielding barbarians. It improves on what was in place before and then some.
    To rap it up, The Last of Us Part 2 is near perfect. The story could've been tinkered to provide a swifter conclusion, but it is a worthy candidate for GOTY.    … Expand

    The mechanics of the game are built so that gives great pleasure from killing enemies, both zombies and people. The game is quite long, but during this time it does not get boring, there is always some twist or TURN! It will be one of my five favorite games of all time.

    The game felt quite long, which at the first sight is a positive trait, but sometimes it got too long (won’t elaborate to avoid spoilers).

    The gameplay in itself is not revolutionary in my opinion. It is very enjoyable thanks to perfect animations, but is doesn’t bring anything very now, nor much variation. Sometimes, TLOU2 pumps too hard in the reservoir of what it has to propose. How many times, as Ellie or Abby, have I had to kill a whole army on my own? Another annoying thing is based on the ammo. Let me explain. When you play the game, you will quickly notice that ammo is scarce, but you will also notice that every time you start finding a lot of ammo consistently, it means that a long combat against either zombies or humans will follow, and that’s bad because it makes the game super predictable.

    Don’t get me wrong though, the game still emotionally shocks by moments, it is rough, unforgiving, and shows how humans may make imperfect (and sometimes frustrating) choices. Horror, deception, irrationality and loneliness are some of the many feelings this game manages to transmit to the player. You will probably feel for the characters, bond to them despite their defaults, which is a thing not many games manage to excel at.

    I also want to talk a bit about the story itself. I think that, such as it is the case with the The Walking Dead TV series, this game got its whole focus on post-pandemic clan wars and revenge, forgetting the very basis of trying to give the player/viewer information on the disease itself. Why? What? When? How? How’s it elsewhere in the world? Those are some of the things that lacked in this game. A second thing is that the end of the game leaves us too much in the dark. Too many questions are left unanswered, and I think that especially giving the fact that the game really pushes in length in order to make us bond with a specific character, it should have shown us how things finish with way more footage (cutscenes at least). To finish on the story, I’d say the following: after I finished TLOU1 for the first time, I was very emotionally hit, I almost couldn’t play any other game for one week because of how deep the game made me voyage. With TLOU2, I don’t have that strong feeling, I liked it, but it didn’t revolutionize my emotions.

    I thus think TLOU2 is a very good game, but it is not perfect, nor does it bring whole new previously unseen gameplay mechanics. That said, it is super enjoyable (except for the too long part), and I cannot wait to play TLOU3. Thank you Naughty Dog.    … Expand

Lesbians? it’s not a problem - I don’t care about their sexuality you go for it girls. But...the death of a main character needs avenging and now I get no choice but to say I forgive you. I don’t forgive you and I certainly don’t forgive naughty dog and Sony. As far as I’m concerned, I payed as Ellie and loved it. I played as Abbie, got killed and that’s the real ending. Topping off the PS4 generation with one of the best games ever conceived is a great achievement by Naughty Dog, and props to them for taking risks and trying new things. Even if you don't like the story, all other aspects are stellar, with THE best graphics I've ever seen, tight and gritty gameplay, topped off by fantastic acting. Just so we can realize that she is indeed a **** person a cheat a psychopath who tortured the man for no reason. if she new why he had to kill her father. Shooting him in the head would've been enough and believable.. And on top of that making the segments played with her more thrilling and fan to play just so we like her. However, this is a game that's supposed to be driven by its story. Let's say if this story was driving a car, it would have crashed into a dumpster. Firstly, this story doesn't have a protagonist or an antagonist. The game has this edgy type of story where since everyone is killing and murdering to survive no one is the main hero or villian. The problem with that is that this means there is no one that you can cheer for or want to see achieve their destiny and no one that you want to see taken down. This means you can't invest in any of the characters cause you cant care about them. This kind of story may work for other media like movies and tv shows but not for a 25 hour game. This is the most unsatisfying, boring, pointless story I have played in a long time. In my opinion put your money towards something more meaningful because this game ain't it… Expand

    An amazing sequel that gets more hate then it deserves. While the story isn't as good as its predecessor, the combat is better. Playing as Abby was actually an amazing experience.

    I highly recommend this game and its certainly a contender for game of the year.

The graphics are amazing, visually its the peak of gaming with Ghost of Tsushima rivaling it. the game as it plays is great and what ive come to expect from a naughty dog title. The enemies were clever and it was very fun from a gameplay perspective. The music and audio design was top notch everything i did fit and fit way too well.

    The bad
    The story was just bad. It was so bad i almost quit playing the game 3 separate times. I literally went to the home screen. Abbys whole story was ultimately pointless because she brought it upon herself. We are supposed to feel bad for herbut i did not. The relationships this time were not nearly as good as the original. The cast jumped in and out too much to care for them. Switching between abby and ellie was jarring and jumping between the two was just disorienting. I wish they just had 2 separate stories one for ellie and one for abby. I think killing joel was just the wrong route to go. There were so many out of place scenes as well like A FULL ON GOD DAMN SEX SCENE between abby and owen which was thrown in there for no reason. The story was a full on mess and ellie's actions were so bizarre and out of place. The best parts of the game were the flashbacks and that's because the interactions were amazing because joel and ellie have great chemistry and bounce off each other so well. Lev was just a worse ellie i liked him but he was literally just there to try and humanize abby who acts like a monster.

    The model for abby looks really bizarre and off. Most women dont look like that unless they are body builders and even then body builders are on special diets to maintain their look and abby looks like she tried to take steroids and male hormones and stopped taking halfway. her young design is good and looks like a real person. her older design looks like somebody's fanfic character in this game also burritos would definitely not make you look that way. even real soldiers do not look like that. It felt like they finished ellies section but thought the game was too short and decided to create a whole scenario for abby the antagonist. literally lev is ellie just as a boy. they literally took joel from the first game and made abbie a clone of him. Also those stats and gains you made from the story are gone when you first get to abby modern day. so 15 hours in they expect you to start from scratch. It made me consider quitting the game. Also really shes punching zombies come on thats just dumb.

    The ending was also just not fun. It literally felt like they put it there so they could try and show abby is redeemed. Ellie enters an armed compound with tons of people just to fist fight abby who is being held prisoner and being tortured by the people in the compound and its dumb. The whole story is terrible. not only that the character relationships were all over the place and i could attached to any of the characters. They had too many characters and really the only ones i remember well were dina and ellie and owen and abby which both were poorly done and i did not care for. Overall the story is bad and boring and for a story driven game thats half the fun.

    Overall this game is a game that is good gameplay wise but abysmally bad in its storytelling. If you are looking for a story driven game. I would just play the first one because its perfect and did not need a sequel especially one this bad storywise. Its a very good game, gameplay wise but gameplay for a story driven game is only half of the game. story is also important and it flops on that.

    Its not a 1/10 no the game is very playable and smooth but it screwed up the story so bad i can't go higher than 5/10. That's what i give this game its a game that plays amazingly but the story needed a complete rewrite its that bad.    … Expand

I rather play Fallout 76 (and i hate that game) than Last of Us Part 2. It's a very immersive experience and I felt it really expanded on every aspect of the first game while throwing in quite a few surprises. I liked the changing viewpoints through the game, I was surprised when it switched to Abby but I enjoyed her part as well. I thought it was interesting to flip the script and see it through her eyes. Equal situation would be, if Doom Guy would get killed and you would have to play rest of the game as Demon who killed him and at the end Demon gets away and they wanna brainwash you into thinking that Demon was actually good guy. I feel absolutely nothing towards this series anymore, this second part completely ruined my interest in first part, forever. Because now first part is completely pointless, whole adventure in first part is no pointless.     It's not a perfect game, by any means. And it's not suitable for everybody, since it's way more controversial and complex (and violent) than the first one, so it deserves to be criticized, but this is ridiculous.

Not counting people who just couldn't go on with it and criticized it for this, most people used this site writing what they heard happens from leaks, and never looked back, or even make their votes depend completely on the narrative.
    I get that the story is the most important part of it, and has many problems. In my opinion, Naughty Dog themselves made mistakes trying to address complex themes. But a vote from 1 to 4 means that EVERYTHING that game had to offer was garbage and since there's a technical compartment, it HAS to be rewarded. Visuals and sound are unimaginable for this generation of consoles and whatever opinion we have on the game, it's objectively going to be at least a 6 for everything besides the story.

    That said, I'm not going to say my reasons for the vote I gave, I think there's plenty of good and bad reviews in here to watch. I just wanted to do my part in trying to make this community less toxic with this message

    PS. For everyone criticizing that Abby is trans just because has big muscles and using it to make their point on why this game sucks, you should consider writing down on that same review what is like to be a clown.    … Expand

    The Last of Us Part II is the high point of the PlayStation 4. The plot is controversial, but the game is the incredibly addictive adventure of Ellie, from which it is impossible to pull away from the opening and to the very end.

    Not everyone is going to enjoy the motives of The Last of Us Part II. But if you try and manage to accept the subliminal and not so subtle messages as a fact that the world has gone awry and that people have the need to have somewhere or someone to belong to as their own way out, then... You will witness the boundaries of gaming expand. You will witness a true masterpiece.
