An absolute masterpiece. A game with awesome gameplay and graphics, perfect music, outstanding acting performance, amazing and realistic facial animations, and a very engaging story. It makes you question why you love and hate certain characters and makes you go through a lot emotions with the characters. Absolutely amazing, definitely one of the best games ever made.

I have played it and I just can say that it’s almost perfect technically, it’s very fun to play and (for me) it have an interesting history. The history is something personal and you can like it or not, it’s like Game of Thrones: it will make you feel bad and it wouldn’t give you what you expect or what you want. :)

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. I Started Off hating TLOU2 due to the the leaks and I was disappointed about Joel’s death as much as the next guy. But to me it served a good purpose as Ellie needed that drive to go get revenge. Now to the revenge. Many people said because she did not kill Abby at the end of the game, Ellie did not get “revenge”. I don’t think that was the case at all. She killed countless people and at the climax of it all, she found her humanity, just like Joel saving Abby. This story was not meant to be the same story as the first, they went on a limb and i enjoyed it. It is very divisive so I can see both sides of the argument but all in all I enjoyed it. I don’t want to take any more of your time than I already have so yeah...I will say though in the future I would like Naughty Dog to reframe from sad stuff lol I play video games to have fun not to cry. Good job though. Expand

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. This game destroys everything what made the first game great. The Story is awful and poor written. Why?
Joels Death is undeniably pathetic and rushed, he got killed by the dumbest way ever. A Golf Club, seriously? Joel, as a character we love, deserved much much better! After this I thought, alright, maybe it will get better, It got even worse. Abby was a character i didn't care about. Her Backstory is told in under 10 minutes or something and they expect us to like a character who killed Joel and with almost no backstory?NO!!!! THIS IS NOT HOW IT WORKS!!! Abby even gets better Gameplay than Ellie!! She gets all the best guns and more stuff than Ellie. We did not wait seven or more years to play AS F*CKING ABBY! We wanted Joel and Ellie back. Their Bond from the first Game was memorable and fantastic. In this game, it gets butchered in the first few hours AND in the worst way imaginable.
One thing I liked about Abby was the Gameplay. Towards the end I thought, alright fine, at least im going to kill Abby now. Guess what? THEY EVEN MANAGED TO RUIN ELLIE!!! Ellie lets Abby get away, And Abby's Abrupt Love Story with an Abrupt Sex Scene was a thing, I didn't care about. In Overall, the story is poorly written and if you liked the first game, you will hate this one because the memorable and fantastic Joel Ellie Bond gets butchered in this one.
But, This Game is absolutely beautiful, the Graphics are awesome. TLOU2 has simply the best Graphics I have ever seen. But Neil, the first Game did not get the Ratings because of the Graphics, it got the Ratings because of the fantastic Storytelling, ITS NOT ABOUT THE GRAPHICS!!! I would rather have bad Graphics and great Story than this. The Gameplay did not change much from the first game.

Unsatisfactory ending for just about every character you loved in the first game. The only positive aspects of this game are the technical elements. The pacing of the story is a complete mess. The Last of Us Part II has been a catalyst for vitriol within the gaming community this year, and I'm wanted to give my genuine thoughts on the sequel to one of my favorite gaming experiences ever. So, is The Last of Us Part II really as bad as everyone says, or is it something else? The Last of Us Part II has been a catalyst for vitriol within the gaming community this year, and I'm wanted to give my genuine thoughts on the sequel to one of my favorite gaming experiences ever. I played through The Last of Us Part I at least 10-15 times in the last 10 years (I'm not kidding). So, is The Last of Us Part II really as bad as everyone says, or is it something else?

Starting with the story, I am conflicted. After an event drives Ellie out of Jackson, She finds herself on a path of revenge throughout the city of Seattle against multiple factions in this 20-25 hour story. You battle the militant faction known as the "WLF" or "Wolves", as well as a religious faction of zealots known as the "Seraphites" or "Scars". This is the darkest story I've ever experienced and it exhausted me and made me miserable the entire way through, not because it's bad, but because I believe it's very well written. Having said this, I can understand why MANY gamers don't like this game. This is not a happy or joyful experience. No story has ever made me reflect as much as this story has, and I have immense respect for that. This is one of the few games that only require one playthrough to satisfy your desire to play it. Though if you play through this story, I highly suggest you go into and play with an open mind.

Next, I want to discuss the gameplay. The gameplay is very similar to the previous title with some new additions to mechanics like traversal. You still go around collecting scraps and ammo while crafting gadgets to get yourself through the next combat encounter you'll inevitably find yourself in. This does make the game feel a bit repetitive on new game plus settings. There is a new grappling hook adding additional levels to the game allowing for the player to get to harder to reach spots off the beaten path. They've also added jumping and the ability to go prone which paired with combat feel really good! Sliding between cracks in walls while trying to escape a pursuing enemy dog or disappearing into a bed of reeds trying to regain stealth and gain an advantage on your adversaries feels amazing and rewarding, especially on higher difficulties. Ellie also has her switchblade, allowing an ease on resources like the crafted shiv from the first game. There are also new weapons and gadgets that add to the experience like a pipe bomb or the trap mine (which yes just splits the nail bomb into two separate weapons but adds for a greater need for saving resources). This game is also incredibly well crafted and designed. In my two-plus playthroughs of this game, I ran into no glitches, bugs, or crashes. Everything works so incredibly well and runs smoothly.

Finally, I want to talk about the visuals. This game looks incredible on the Playstation 4 Pro. The environments are absolutely gorgeous whether you're exploring the overgrown urban environment of Seattle. the snowed-in mountains of Jackson, or a few other areas you'll find yourself in. The lighting and colors of the game are completely jaw dropping. Utilizing things like film grain makes the environments and background environments look extra good. The soundtrack is also the closest thing to perfect you'll find. Gustavo Santaolalla did an amazing job creating the music for this game, though it's hard to decide if it's better than the soundtrack of the first game.

This game is not what I expected. The story is way too dark, yet still undeniably beautiful. Pairing this with the combat in between areas of story and reflection, it works well. I definitely don't think this game is a 1-2/10, but at the same time, it's definitely not a 10/10.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Disappointing. Story disaster. Yes, technically is a nice game, nice graphics, nice battles, nice locations. But the main part, what we loved, has been totally abused and devasted. I cannot explain how much annoying was to play the part of the murderer of Joel for almost half part of the game and how much disappointed I was at the end when, after to have killed thousands people, there is this forced moral ending. No comment. The success of the last of us part 1 was the love, the love between two persons inside a violent and cruel world. And this love won against everything. In the last of us part 2 they distroyed this love, and they forced us to learn something by a lot of different characters that you never feel yours. I am sorry. It doesn't work. The passion is the key. Zero is the score. Expand

The last of us II Definitely a good game, with a good technical part (the same moment with a foggy city) I was very surprised that the old PlayStation 4 has enough power to run it, the physics is cool, the graphics are nowhere better, the details are very good ... But here's what spoiled the game: The plot! Yes, right now there will be spoilers, the moment with Joel, where Abby beats him to death with a stick, it's cruel, a very strong scene, but the game has a disgusting ending because of this, I think that if Abby was killed, okay, everything would be more or less, but to forgive the one who actually killed Ellie's father is stupid, I understand why it was necessary, but this is a stupid move, I love Joel and I find it hard to believe in his death. 3 Expand

There is A LOT to talk about in this game. It's a TOTAL MESS. It takes the story from the first game, and completely turns it upside down. And remember, it's not called tlou 2, but part 2, which implies it's a continuation of the events that happened in the first game. I played tlou 1 when i was a little kid in 2014, in 2017 i played left behind, and in 2020 i played tlou 2 in the month of june. And i decided to replay the entire saga in the month of november, finishing it in around 18 days. Tlou 1 needs no introduction. Just fantastic. And left behind gave a lot of useful information on Ellie's backstory. Things change with part 2.
    THE STORY:
When i first played as Abby, i wondered who was she, and thought "Oh, a new character, let's see what happens with her". And it all collapses when she kills Joel. And the way Naughty Dog decides to do it, it's just SO BAD. Needless to say I instantly hated her. Now Ellie's part in Seattle isn't the problem, because I **** LOVED IT. And then, the game just starts going down and down and down when Abby reaches Ellie in the theater, and we get to play as Abby, FOR LIKE 8 TO 10 HOURS. The problem is, Abby's part of the game, it's literally a flashback of the events that led her to meet Ellie. Both Ellie's and Abby's flashbacks are just useless, they don't say anything. Because yeah, in Abby's part, there are SEVERAL flashbacks, which they're all inside ANOTHER flashback, and it gets so confusing. I found Abby's story EXTREMELY boring (Except the rat king and haven battle), when i was playing it i just repeated in my head "Please, let it be over, i can't take it anymore". And WHEN we finally reach the theater from Abby's perspective, we get to play as ABBY, FIGHTING ELLIE. I died a lot in that part, and when i did, it felt SO satisfying. But then, Abby almost kills Ellie and Dina (after having already killed Jesse and shot Tommy), but then she spares them because of Lev, and never wants to see her again. Then we see Ellie Dina and her baby living happily together, but right after, we see Tommy who Carl Grimes style survives a bullet to the head, saying he found where Abby is. The game could have ended there, with Ellie saying she's done and gives up on revenge. The game would've still been pretty disappointing, but it gets EVEN WORSE. Ellie leaves Dina and her baby, with 30 minutes of combat before fighting Abby. But the fight, IT WAS SO **** It's a super bad fist and knife fight, and it was **** if you think about uncharted 4 boss fight, which was perfect. When Ellie almost drowns Abby, she gives up and lets her go. In the fight she loses two fingers, and can't play Joel's guitar anymore. And that's it. It ends here. And i was SO PISSED when the roll credits came.
    GAMEPLAY:
Now, the combat mechanics were AMAZING. They were INCREDIBLY REAL, the levels of gore was INSANE, and the kills felt so satisfying. Combat was my favourite part of the game because in my opinion it was AWESOME. The gameplay was pretty much like tlou 1, with many enviromental puzzles, grabbing resources and crafting weapons, and many encounters in the path. Bugs are super rare, even though i encountered a few. But it's still very enjoyable. Not perfect, but i give it a 9/10.
    GRAPHICS AND AUDIO:
No comment. The graphics are THE MOST REALISTIC I ever saw. The level of detail is amazing. Same as sound design, and the soundtrack it's magnificent. Gustavo Santaolalla it's just one of the best videogame composers. 10/10.
    CHARACTERS:
Just. No. Horrible. Abby's horrible. Yara and Lev don't add much to the story. Neither Dina does. Joel and Tommy they don't count since they're still awesome, but they don't appear much. And Ellie actually passed to the part of the antagonist, since in the final fight Abby didn't even want to fight, but Ellie forced her by threatening Lev. She kinda acted like an **** sometimes towards others. Totally different from 14 year old Ellie in tlou 1.
    SUMMARY:
The game's been a huge disappointment. Within an arc of 7 years between part 1 and 2, Naughty Dog false-advertised the game, by putting lots of sequences with an old Joel in the trailers, and adding even scenes that aren't even in the game. You actually spend more time killing humans than infected. And humans lived in **** enourmos buildings with electricity and lots of other resources that you wouldn't find in a zombie apocalypse. It didn't even feel like a zombie game. But like a non-stop human killing simulator. It's just pure **** compared to tlou 1, other zombie games, and other Naughty Dog games. Totally different story that didn't spot a single thing with the first game's one. Joel gets killed by the daughter of A **** NPC, and she also gets to be one of the protagonist. It's like saying Solid Snake gets killed by the son of the one soldier he strangled in Shadow Moses. It's a total mess. Naughty Dog it's capable of a lot more than this.
We waited so long. Just **** disappointed by this.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. So I tired very hard to like this game being such a huge fan of the first one I played it twice to see if I would enjoy it more the second time.... Not really honestly my rating is a 6.5 but it won’t let me. While I loved the graphics and some aspects of the game were very fun a lot of it just got old. Since most of the game takes place in Seattle everything looks the same so trying to remember where stuff is (hidden stashes) for extra play throughs is difficult. The quasi open world part of the game in the beginning was pretty fun. The fight system was better then the first but still had some problems and has been done better by 100s of other games. The worst part of this game is the story with massive plot holes and characters making choices that just doesn’t make sense. Also having us play as the other female character in this to try and see her side was boring she is not relatable or even a decent person. I found myself trying to rush thru her part to get back to Ellie even tho the game was trying very hard to make her the villain. The diversity in the game was a great idea but didn’t really work out the way I think naughty dog intended it was to on the nose and none of the characters were honestly likable anyone could of played their parts and it would have been the same story. Then the games ending made ZERO sense at all she had a flash back making her pursue Abby... then had another flash back after saving Abby telling her she needed to kill her then after she almost kills her and has her fingers bitten off she has another flash back telling her to let Abby go.... so she gave up everything she had to kill Abby then just let her go...lol. There is no closure in the game making the games replay ability very low which sucks since the first I could, and still can play over and over again. So graphics 10/10...combat solid 7 or 8 story a 4 it was bad....But if you enjoyed the game then you win honestly not worth 60 bucks to me but if I had bought it for 30 a year later I would probably feel better about it..... EDIT: So back months later to see if another play through would change my mind.... It didn’t.... Still a solid 6-6.5 at best. Expand

The only good things about this game are the graphics and Ellie in my opinion. You don't have a 20+ Hour game trying to kill the most unlikable character in the history of gaming, and at the last **** second, you let her go?!? They also make you PLAY as the person you want to kill for 12 HOURS. The most disappointing pathetic game I have ever played in my entire life. Expand

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Graphics - 10/10
    Sound - 10/10
Gameplay - 7/10 - The gameplay is good, but is largely remains the same from the first game. There are some small changes, like going prone and crawling when in combat, dodging when in melee combat, and new enemy types such as dogs who can track you and some other infected (but probably not enough)

    Story - 5/10

This game in my opinion is insulting to fans of the first game. If you loved the first Last of Us game, you probably won't like this one. In my opinion, this game needlessly tears down the characters of the first game and what made the first game special.

The game takes place 4-5 years after the end of the first Last of Us. Joel and Ellie live in a settlement in Jackson, Wyoming. About two hours into the game, Joel is killed by a character named Abby with a golf club. This sets the main events of the game into motion as you play as Ellie (for the first half of the game), and hunt down Abby and her friends because of what they did to Joel. Later on in the game it is explained that Abby and her friends are former fireflies and that Abby's father was the doctor who was going to perform the surgery on Ellie at the end of the first game, and that Joel killed him when he saved Ellie. Now I understand that there are two sides to every story and that actions have consequences and that there are moral gray areas, especially in the world of The Last of Us. I get from Abby's perspepctive why she killed Joel, and I get that in many ways Joel had it coming. My problem is that the game handles this issue in a very biased way. Yes Joel saved Ellie and ended any chance of a vaccine for the world. I get that he killed a lot of fireflies, but anyone else in that situation would have done the same thing. Also, realistically, the fireflies took and drugged Ellie and gave her no choice in the matter. He saved someone that he loved. If the fireflies did create a vaccine, then realistically they would have kept it for themselves and not given it to everyone else. Anything that can be such a great use for society is always weaponized in some form. I get that it's a morally complex issue, but my biggest problem with this game is that it portrays Joel, Ellie, and even Tommy in such a negative light in favor of these new characters. If the point of the game is to show it from different perspectives, why is it that it feels as though one side is clearly favored over the other? The game could have explored both sides equally and could have portrayed Joel and Ellie in ways where the end of the first game could have been addressed without spitting on Joel as a character and doing the same to Ellie. After Joel dies, Ellie seeks revenge. You play as Ellie for 3 days in Seattle, and them you are forced to play As Abby for those same 3 days. This is where the game really lost me. During Abby's playthrough, the game feels very manipulative in that it tries desperately to make you like and care for Abby and her friends. Instead of presenting it as an equally fair portrayal of revenge, the game makes Ellie seem like a killing machine who is traumatized by her actions, but then goes out of their way to make Abby seem really nice. I get that Ellie and Joel had the first game to flesh out their characters, but this just feels unfair. Abby also gets better weapons and more epic gameplay moments than Ellie does. Naught Dog lied when they made it seem like Joel would have a bigger part to play in the game, and that this would be more of Ellie's story this time around, but that's not really the case. When I played this game, I had no sympathy at all for Abby and any of her friends in the story. Even if I understand their motivations, I did not care one bit about them as characters. Ellie never even gets revenge against Abby, because after everything that happens in the story, Ellie decides to let Abby go. I'm leaving out some details of the story that I can't get into here because I don't have enough room to type about it, but at the end of the day, my consensus is that The Last of Us Part II is one of the most disappointing games that I have ever played. Do not give Naughty Dog your money for this game. If you are a big fan of the first game, then this isn't for you. The story could have been so much more. Again, this game could have explored the complexities of Joel's choice and Joel and Ellie's relationship after the end of the first game in more detail and exploring the other side of the issue without making it feel so one-sided. And if Joel had to die, his death could have been tied to the end of the first game, while still giving the character some justice. Maybe he does get killed by the fireflies, but he does it in a way to give his life for Ellie or something like that. This game could have been so much more. I would ultimately give it a 6 out of 10 because other than the story everything else is done so well, but the story is just too much of a mess.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. I'm here writing down these short phrase after months of hate about this game.
From the beggining, you can't give it less then a eight: the made of this game is absolutly madness, the details are mind blowing.
I personally broke this game a lot of time, but it's me searching that kind of "fun".
I had the fortune to play this game without knowing nothing, nothin about rewiev bombing (like you that you're infuriating for my commenyt eghhhhuuuzz), haven't see any trailer; this summer when i had a break during my last job, i was wandering on amazon and i saw tlou part 2, my reaction it has been like OH **** TLOU PART 2?!!!!!
i bought it for 50 euros and waited three days.
After this days and a lot of km on bike asking my friends for a ps4, i went home and with and i started playing.
After few hours, Joel died, I always been a fun of this game, that hurted me a lot, i think i've droppped some tears.
As me, Ellie start with Dina and than Jesse her revenge trip...but what about her thoughts, her psichology, her focking diary??
the motion capture has made miracles in this game, **** every one here have ever tried to undertand humns feelings? because these are not characters, they were written to be humans...come on people, you have friends and a relationship with someone...or you're life stop in front of a monitor beacuase if it is, get outside and get a social life.
Every single action in the game mean something for them, EVERY LAST ONE OF THEM (cit eheh)
Abby....ohohoh this is fat meat...in the first run I complitly hated Abby, when she died i laughed a lot but during her days, i started to apriciate her; in this game, Abby and Lev are Joel and Ellie, their relationship is the one we missed after Joel's death.
It's meanfuling if think about this,,,or you can't?
No because the 90/95% of the critics about this game is totally ****ed up, groupe of miserables...my mother language isn't english and i don't have the right skils to kill every senseless critics, i would like but i can't.
The final...after all, Ellie is completly broken (if you have red the diary, followed the cut scenes and undertood her feelings you know that) and leave her dream farm with to search herself (if i ever were to lose you, i'd surely lose myself...), she thinks the best way is to kill Abby and she doesn't have killed Abby because if she did, then she surely kill herself.
I don't have to explain this, thats it
I'm here not to write a rewiev, i'm here because i'm very angry with you people, because you ruined the sharing of this game, you totally misundertood th whole game, the gossip ABOUT Abby and Lev it's WOW and then destroyed the experience of houndreds of thousands of people because of your little brain.
Someone will punish you some day, i hope for that.
i'm waiting for your comments kids, but i would like to have a sane discussion with a human if there's one who don't apriciate this game with resonable arguments, and not you're HA, she is lesbian, he die, she's not female...

I don't think at all the game is inherently bad, it has stunning graphics, great acting work, wonderful sounds, and overall good idea for the main plot, and characters that I really appreciated. Where it falls completely apart for me is in the execution and the storytelling of that plot. I couldn't feel at all emotionally invested in many of the crucial moments because the game kept switching in and out of them, thus, totally ruining the build-up it was trying to set up in the first place. A lot of times the characters didn't look to have been fully developed and kinda felt unrealistic and illogical, especially in the later parts of the game. Many times, in order to fit the narrative, the game required me to perform actions I really didn't want to without giving me any choice. The theme in itself felt very dull and grim, which would have been fine if it wasn't for the plot that tries to be dynamic and adventurous instead.

Now, the game offers a unique experience and has its highs and lows but still feels incomplete and empty at the times, which is a real shame.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. The Last of Us Part II is one of the best games of the generation that the community doesn't seem to understand just yet. Most fans are simply upset that their favorite character is gone, or dislike it for homophobic and transphobic reasons, which is frankly unacceptable. Gameplay-wise, this game has perhaps the most satisfying stealth component of any game to date. You can prone in tall grass, set traps, distract infected to attack your enemies, and craft Molotovs at grouped enemies to take them out quickly. The combat is absolutely brutal, which is fitting for a game of this tone and setting; you can see the blood spurt out of someone's neck when you stab them. When you kill a WLF soldier, you can hear their friends call out for them. Enemies will beg for their lives if you catch them off-guard, but you kill them anyway. Dogs whine in despair when you kill their owners. I have personally never seen anything close to this level of combat detail in a game.

However, the problem that most people have with The Last of Us Part II is the story. The most common complaint I've seen is that people think that Joel wouldn't have just gone into that situation; he would've been more careful. But there are several things people have been forgetting. One: this game takes place 4-5 years after the events of The Last of Us 1, so he is much older, and he has also lost touch with the person he cares about most, so he's obviously lost a lot of the motivation that carried him through the first game. But most importantly out of all of these is that Abby and Owen were the only two people in the mansion that actually knew who Joel was, so there was no real reason for Joel to be suspicious, since Abby's friends didn't even have any reason to kill him until he said his name.

Players are also mad about the big twist at the climax of the story, when everything resets and the player is forced to play as Abby. Now before I talk about this section of the game, I want to remind whoever may be reading this that the theme of the story is Joel's song at the beginning of the game. Seriously. Everything that happened with Ellie in this is tied to that song: "If I ever were to lose you, I'd surely lose myself..." Now, back to Abby. When Abby kills Jesse, we flashback to Abby's father saving a zebra, and we learn that her father was the doctor that Joel killed at the end of the first game. We meet all of Abby's friends and see how nice and likable all of these characters are, and you remember: "I killed all of these people as Ellie." It wants to make you take back all of the things that Ellie has done, and it all goes back to that song. Ellie doesn't think before she kills all of Abby's friends. She didn't know what Joel did that caused Abby to kill her, she's lost herself because she lost Joel.

Lastly, I'd like to talk about the ending. Ellie cuts down Abby and she leads her to the boats at the beach. After putting her things in the boat, she is reminded of what Abby did, and in this scenario, it's a negative flashback, which angers her and reminds her of what she came for. She forces Abby to fight her by threatening Lev, which is not something Ellie would normally do, once again, following along the theme of the whole game. However, after almost drowning Abby, she has a positive flashback of Joel, reminding her of what he was and how much he cared for her, rather than what Abby did. What most players don't catch on to is that Ellie sees Joel in Abby. When she saves Lev, it is reminiscent of when Joel saves Ellie in the first game. Her determination, her strength, and her care for others are very similar to those of Joel's, which is another reason why Ellie spared her in the end. When Ellie sits down in the water, she says to Abby, "Go. Just take him." That's not Lev she's talking about. She's talking about Joel. With this act of courage, Ellie is finally able to let Joel go and move on, as is symbolizes by her losing two fingers and being unable to play Joel's song anymore. She leaves Joel's guitar in the house and walks away, at long last, being able to forget about him and live her own life.

To finish off this review, don't go attacking and sending death threats to the directors and voice actors. They've done nothing wrong. If you've got something so wrong with this VIDEO GAME that you feel it's necessary to send death threats to someone about it, you're what's wrong.

10/10 gameplay, 9/10 story, Game of the Year.

I know that many people hate this game, but developers did something different and i really liked that. For those who hated the game i recommend to replay it and see it from another perspective. You will like it. They improved graphics, physics, combat and the general environment. I liked the fact that they inserted a dodge button. It is a masterpiece. Great job as always Naughty Dog. This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. DISCLAIMER: We don't have to agree about this. Honestly, a beautiful thing about books, movies, or games is the discourse between those with differing opinions. One can say that The Last of Us Part 2 is the greatest game of all time while one says that The Last of Us Part 2 is a game riddled with inconsistencies and confusing story decisions. Also, I will be going into story spoilers, so keep that in mind as you read. And yes, I have beaten the first game and this one; I'm not just a mindless drone who follow what the critics say or what the users say. Ready? Here we go...

If you haven't played this game, and you clicked on this hoping there weren't actual spoilers, let me summarize my overall general thoughts into this paragraph. The Last of Us Part 2 is a remarkable game that has the technical, emotional, and thematic prowess of a well-crafted film. Are there things wrong with it? I'd say so. But, does this underpin the phenomenal aspects of this game that make it well worth your time? I can't say so.

Gameplay: In short, this game feels and plays wonderfully. The new additions are excellent in how they allow the player to diversify tactics. Nonetheless, I do feel that this game can get repetitive. As fun as the stealth sections are, there's hardly diversions from the formula except for a few key sections. When I was able to call over the infected to fight with the WLFs and sneak by, I was impressed by how creative the section was. When I had to fight just a bunch of scars in another grassy plain again, I was not impressed that I had to do the same thing over. Combined with the games 20+ hour story, this gets tiring over time. I know this is a stealth/survival-horror game, and this is a well-made one at that, but I do wish the game had more originality in its gameplay. 7/10

Visuals/Music: As expected, The Last of Us Part 2 looks and sounds amazing. Is it Naughty Dog's best looking game? I'd have to play Uncharted 4 again as that game was extremely impressive, but this one has breathtaking moments. From the facial expressions to the backgrounds, this game has so much effort put into it, and I can't express how much of that feeds into the emotional aspect of this game. When the game wants you to feel something, nine times out of ten it will succeed with a lot of it coming from the game's music or visuals. That's how amazing it is. 9/10

Story: Alright, let's do this. This is where people will either praise or trash the absolute crap out of this game. Where do I stand? I'm gonna do a touch of trashing and a heap of praising. So, let's start off with what I think doesn't work. I can't say it any better than a review I found online where it stated that there was a part that felt like a 10 hour sidequest. I love the story overall, but I can't help but feel that the pace of the game in general does not work as well as the first. Mixed in with that gameplay issue I had before, some parts of the game were a chore to get through. And yes, I'm sure it's a chore for Ellie and Abby to get through these sections as characters, but the game hardly engages me in these sections as it would in other parts. Also, regarding the switch in main characters, the game kind of asks you to flip flop your emotions, if that makes sense. While I actually think the game succeeds in making you sympathize for Abby, it's a complex thing that takes time to develop, so in some ways, I understand why it turns others off even if I was invested. So what did I like? Almost everything else. The way this story moves in order to make its point is at some points genius. Joel's death is saddening especially since he was a likable character; but, think about what Joel did in the first game. He murdered people including those who were about to uncover the cure, even if his reasons to do so was the entire backbone of the first story. Joel's death makes sense in this messed up world. The way that enemies will call out the names of the fallen is a fascinating way to highlight the consequences of your actions. This isn't just a "violence is bad" story, this is a "value of human life" story which I think is far more interesting considering how it ties into the main characters. Ellie and Abby both do some messed up stuff but when it all comes down to their final fight, they both become better people and understand each other. Joel and Ellie both do some messed up stuff but when it comes down to their final real conversation, they both become better people and understand each other. This game doesn't dishonor Joel and Ellie's relationship, because how it ties into Abby and Ellie's relationship is the most significant element of this game. I'm impressed with how this story portrays a coherent theme even in some bold story decisions. 8/10

You may not like The Last of Us Part 2, and that's okay. But, I highly encourage you to give this a try and create your own opinion. 8/10

It takes what made the first one beautiful... and throws it all in the garbage.

A very big punch in the face to the people who loved the first one in the series. It ends up being an uninteresting revenge plot and makes the original characters of the franchise either dumbed down or ****. The gameplay and gun mechanics are pretty much unchanged from the original game, adding very little in the form of new things to do. DOES NOT DESERVE THE PRAISE FROM BIG TIME CRITICSA very big punch in the face to the people who loved the first one in the series. Horrid, certain scenes have meaning or impact and are just there for shock factor.

Whoever say this isn't an instant classic is either ignorant or doesn't really know s**t about what he is talking about. Maybe both.

The story however is a complete disaster. Killing one of the most beloved characters from the first game in an awfully disrespectful way is just not the way to go. In general, the story seems to be more focused on achieving certain political goals than actually narrating things that are of common sense.

The game also contains disturbing sex scenes, which, first of all, makes me uncomfortable, but moreover makes me confused, as they don't seem to serve much purpose towards enhancing the narrative or building characters.

The Last of Us Part II is the high point of the PlayStation 4. The plot is controversial, but the game is the incredibly addictive adventure of Ellie, from which it is impossible to pull away from the opening and to the very end.

Not everyone is going to enjoy the motives of The Last of Us Part II. But if you try and manage to accept the subliminal and not so subtle messages as a fact that the world has gone awry and that people have the need to have somewhere or someone to belong to as their own way out, then... You will witness the boundaries of gaming expand. You will witness a true masterpiece.

If you loved the original for its great characters and well-paced story – stay away from this game. However, if you’re aching to sink into the depths of depression, or just want to cut some throats and burn some zombies – Part II will deliver. [Issue#247, p.72]
