Horrible and inexplicable story, fraudulent advertising, boring repetitive gameplay, the mechanics is same as TLOU1, nothing really change. The only good thing about this game is the graphics and the acting.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Apart from its amazing and eye widening and Jaw Dropping graphics and Ok gameplay The Last of Us Part 2 is a failure at storytelling with everything getting worse and worse. Making you feel utterly empty at the end of the game with everyone practically losing everything and gaining barely anything at all. The Last of Us Part 2 also lied to us in its advertisement for example: Joel is seen and should’ve been alive during game is instead killed brutally and disrespectfully in front of Ellie and our eyes by an overly buff cartoonish woman named Abby who’s father, The doctor at the end of the first game, was killed by Joel who was just saving because who couldn’t lose another daughter and a second chance at being a father. This, apart the Ellie fight when your forced to play as Abby, was probably one the worst things I’ve had to watch and unfortunately play for the sake of this review. Abby although arguably the worst video game character ever created has little character and doesn’t look past her previous actions and the game forces you, for 10 HOURS, too like her this doesn’t work for a number of reasons. 1. She killed Joel brutally in front us, 2. Her backstory is shown way to late in the game which still doesn’t make me care about her in the slightest, and 3. Naughty Dog just makes here arc the same as Joel and Ellie’s arc in first game by having her take care of Lev a transgender boy who was assigned a girl at birth but wants to be identified as boy. Now before we go any further I do not hate trans or LGBTQ people not in the slightest and although this is one of reasons people who like this game believe it’s why people hate it this is not that this is just about what Abby and Lev do in the story. There relationship AS A WHOLE is just, again, Joel and Ellie’s story all over again with it being definitely not as good as the first. Speaking of which let’s go back to Joel for a minute here. Joel is seen in this game as a bad person because he doomed humanity of a vaccine however he did that because he didn’t want Ellie to die he loved to much and any parent would do the same thing If their child was being sacrificed whether they wanted to or not. Plus these immediately went to work on Ellie without giving Ellie a chance to think about saving humanity for a vaccine possibly worrying that if she said no then they probably would’ve forced her to do it anyway. This shows that The Fireflies aren’t what we thought they were they are not good people but really who is there is no good or bad in The Last of Us universe it’s just who’s side we take and which is better and one we are comfortable with. Here they make so that Joel and Ellie are bad people and Abby and her Father were good because they save animals their nice to everyone and whatever even though the game forces you to kill Abby’s dog who you are forced to play with and is also not enjoyable. Also I’m going actually defend those who played the game and didn’t finish it because here’s thing: why are we going to continue playing something that’s just gonna to continue to disappoint us like why would they do that? You could say that’s no excuse or because you can fully understand something if you don’t see the whole thing but this is understandable if you think about it it’s really up to you. Actually let’s now talk about Understanding because a lot of people who like this game say that people who don’t like or hate this game don’t understand but here’s the thing: Just because something is understood and explained doesn’t make it automatically good even if it makes them look dumb or something we still have a right to decide if it’s still bad. I understand the message they are trying to give but I hate that they used The Last of Us Universe and Characters to tell that message because you don’t go from a game that was about “Even in the worst times their is still a chance for hope and happiness.” To then make a sequel about how “Revenge doesn’t solve anything and everyone is horrible.” That’s not how that you should do that it should’ve been about forgiveness and not this overly forced narrative. In conclusion, The Last of Us Part 2 failed at giving us a story and Characters we waited 7 years for to only have be disliked, forgettable, and killed. I honestly hope this games story is remade even if it’s not what we mostly asked for id take anything this dumpster fire of a story. Expand

Something I want to say is that If you loved this game, that's ok. If you hated this game, that's ok.

Something I want to say is that If you loved this game, that's ok. If you hated this game, that's ok.

If you felt like every event that happened was very in character, that's cool.

If you think that there needed to be more or clearer reasons for the events in the game to have happened, or the actions were simply out of character completely, that's understandable.

I just want to say that we are all different, from our upbringings, morality and virtues. This game pushes that to the limit.

Let's use Dunkey and Yahtzee as an example. They are both very honest in their reviews, and might like or dislike games most people may think are the opposite, but they seldom let public opinion scare them off from being honest about what they like or dislike.

Yahtzee hated TLOU2. Dunkey loved it. Why are these two seemingly honest people saying two different things? It's simple, really: They are two different people.

They fundamentally uphold different standards when it comes to rating and enjoying games.

Yahtzee thought it was a horrible time, with uninteresting characters and a prime example of developer crunch.

Dunkey thought it was a good story, with most of the actions the characters take being in-character, and the ending was the best course of action the devs could have taken.

So who's wrong? Neither. They're both different people, and like different things. and when we compare that to the rest of TLOU fans, we start to have a revelation: What works for some people won't work for others.

    I just love it

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Was exciting to play through but i hated playing as Abby. Best part about her part was the creative ways you let someone end her or jump of a cliff etc. Not because she's buff but because how she was written and how she was forced upon the player for 12 hours while the game focuses everything into getting me to find sympathy for her. She likes dogs, Ellie kills dogs and so on, it was very annoying.
i just wish the story would've been about someone else than Joel and Ellie (If you have to do it like this)

Worst parts of the game was just another flashback with Owen and how much Abby loves him and has an affair with him and then doesnt care if she's kills unborn babies, just found her creepy and annoying. Didnt care for her and i blame the writers. I loved the sniper part though and some aspects, i just wish it would be shorter and the rest would be a DLC. I would've loved a good story involving Joel and Ellie, instead we get a mediocre, badly paced one but a crazy emotional one, which was the positive part. I would've loved to take out good chunk of her playtime and play Tommy instead, shoot Manny and Abby and people would be like whoa Abby was crazy but she's over.

This is an amazing world that could've cast new characters and it would've been such a better accomplished game if it wouldnt have been this needless sequel imo.
The graphics, music, stealth system and everything is so good, i loved proning and taking down the entire team while crafting more arrows, just everything was so fluid. Ellie was really cool and obviously people change and all that, so i enjoyed the ride, i just dont agree with the story direction, the endless drama of every single thing, pregnant medic mothers going on missions because why ?

Who is this stupid to allow that to slow the team down in the first place ? And then 2 pregnant dramas that happen after that, forced social politics and the length of Abby's nonsense, how ND thought this move would be popular is beyond me. The subverting expectations and the exaggerating drama scenes for the sake of drama, was a tad bit much for my taste. I felt it was absolutely perfectly written in the first game and Left Behind but i feel the 70% staff leaving ND had something to do with the pacing, writing for this game. Also the co-writer of the first game and Left Behind had nothing to do with this game, so it was just Neil and his new Westworld TV show writer.

I love how many female characters are in this game, i just wish the ideas for them wasnt always reprisenting some social politics, its a female character so she has to have an agenda, this one is gay, this one is also gay, this one is trans and this one is bulky.
Nothing wrong with having that in game but it felt so forced and it bothered me. Im pretty sure all the expendable straight women were killed because they didnt reprisent some agenda, yet magicly the reprisentatives none of them got killed, not even Bill in the first game lol loved that guy. My complaint has nothing to with being gay etc in general, its just how its implemented.

Game definetly has its strengths though, the flashbacks between Ellie and Joel were by far the best moments in this game, gameplay wise its phenomenal and the graphics, the audio is absolute world class, i dont think ive had as good audio in a game before. Shows that their crunch really paid off for this game to look good, also concerning how the new president is desperatly trying to restore ND image because of controversy happening there and 70% of the staff leaving. But regardless i feel this was an uneccessary sequel, its so bad and its so good.

I want to give it a 7 because it was quite the ride but i also wanna give it a 3 because there so many stupid decisions made in making of this game, especially how the workers were overworked, and regarding the game itself how boring the new characters are and how poorly paced the story is, how this revenge story sucks (Just like Neil was told when he wasnt president) and how the shock value and subverting expectations was prevalent in every single scene. It could've been so much better but ND got stuck in the trenches and had to finish their product in the end with Sony breathing down their necks.

TLOU1 followed by Left Behind was an absolute masterpiece and this is just a more brutal and exaggerated spin-off that doesnt even cast the same characters. The old characters are nothing like themselves, its like Neil either forgot ( since its been over 10 years since the other game was in development) or he doesnt care. It doesnt feel like a Part 2 , just a poor sequel that i cant bring myself to play again.

This is hands down one of the most fun games I have ever played. I rarely buy games on launch. But, surprisingly, I paid the 70$ for this game and have enjoyed every single moment of the 30 hours that I got out of it and have consumed much more regarding the game. Joel's death is justified, in the sense that he really did just **** all over humanity in order to save Ellie, and most important of all, Ellie's rampage and suicide mission across America, but without Joel is justified when considering she's got the same **** virus in her head than any of the other infected, but her immune system has somehow overcome this and turned out as we saw in the movie. This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. It's not that the game is as bad as most people filling in these negative reviews trying to tell it is. Rather they're caused by some questionably-positive reviews from the press clashing with all sorts of EdGy internet influencers whining about "SJW content" in the game, which is there, but constitutes less than 1% of the entire experience. it is a very different game from what the original Last of Us was, moving from a classic road-trip structure to something more controversial. Joel's death is actually a very strong kickstart for the hero's (and player's) motivation. I didn't like this idea at first, but the more I played the more I was finding myself thinking that it was actually quite interesting. Something of that reminded me of Gurren Lagann, i guess.
The story is actually not bad at all, and it doesn't fail to provide you with some actual "grey moral". Can't say that I started loving Abby as a character but I definately learned to understand her better. The ending is actually pretty neat. Some light symbolism, some blood. Maybe the only section that really felt weird and forced was the house level. Feeling like everyone giving this game less than 7 points is rather quite young (try 9-16 y.o.) or just brainwashed and be like "I WaNnA Be EdGy and UgHgh SjWs ArE CoNQUeRiNg Us". It is legitemately a very good game and a tech-masterpiece, with nice mechanics, occasionally clever writing(because sometimes it does feel a bit clunky), cool visuals, very nice game design and many other features. This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. I looked at negative reviews about this game, many complained about the plot, but to be honest I liked it, they showed that there is not specifically good and evil (here everyone decides to milk themselves), of course it's a pity that the "dogs" killed our beloved anti- hero (based on the first part) and gave way to a new character, like Dina and Jesse, but I'm used to this change (although it took more of the game's half). This game gave me mongo emotions that no other game has given me, for example: When Joel is killed or when Ellie enters an empty house and tries to play “If i ever were to loose you”. Sometimes these moments break through to tears ... In the gameplay component, I did not see so many new mechanics (breaking glass, crawling), but it feels nice enough. As for the continuation of this wonderful series of games, I think that TLOU 2 is concluding, yes there are plot holes, such as (what happened to Abby and Lev, Where did Dina go with JJ (maybe there is a note and I overlooked it, if that I will take this into account in the future), where Ellie went, she may wander around the mainland or went back to Jackson, but I think that for part 3 this is not enough, maximum DLC. From me this game gets 10/10, but not everyone will like it ( I did not take into account the moment with homosexuality in this game, if I am neutral about all this) and I advise fans of the series to go through this (in my opinion) MASTERPIECE! This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. The main problem that people had with this game is that Joel Miller dies, and that whole game revolves around Ellie seeking revenge. People have been saying that the only theme of the game is “revenge is bad”, and it is such a simplistic narrative to base a game around. But for me, I found this take on the revenge narrative to be really refreshing. I have seen the idea of “revenge is bad” done multiple times before, but usually in those stories, the audience has a clear idea of who is in the right, and who is in the wrong. In the Last Of Us 2, Neil Druckman provides the audience with all these sharply written characters, each with their own individual motives, and lets the audience decided who is in the rights. For example, Joel killed Abbys father because he was going to kill Ellie to try and develop a cure for the cordyceps virus, so Abby tracks down and kills Joel, which then motivates Ellie to seek revenge. We have all these different characters with their own motivations, but none of them are necessarily the right motivation. Each of these characters is caught in this cycle of violence and self destruction, to the point where it becomes incredible difficult to distinguish who is good and who is bad.
I loved how this game set us up with a cliche protagonist vs antagonist story, but then abolishes these labels as the story continues. When the game began, I was supporting Ellies decision to kill Abby and make her pay for what she did. But as the story continued, we see that Ellie actions have equal, if not greater consequences, than the actions of Abby. Just as Abbys action of killing Joel was cruel and inhumane, Ellies actions of Killing all of Abbys friends just to gain revenge was also inhumane as well, hence the cycle of violence. I loved how this game actually let the player decide who’s actions are justified in this game, rather than face feeding it to them.
The best part of this game was trying to figure out the motives of each character, specifically Ellie. We see Ellie pretty much destroy everything in her life in the peruse of revenge. Whilst it was really sad seeing Ellie loose Joel, it was heartbreaking to see her lose all of her other loved ones. We see Ellie choose revenge over her loved ones time and time again, because she just cannot shake the guilt of loosing Joel. Just as Joel’s decision to save Ellie forever damaged their relationship, Ellies decision to leave pushes away those close to her to continue to seek out revenge forever damages their relationship. The game provides an ugly, brutal and heartbreaking perception of the life of these characters, and I though that it was written to perfection.
However, there was one major problem I had with the game, and that is when we shift to the perspective of Abby for the rest of the game. No matter how interesting a sub plot to a story it, if it doest relate to the main narrative, it is ultimately a waste of time. This is the case for Abbys Plot line. Whilst there are some off handed references to Ellies story, the majority of Abby story involves her interacting with new character and experiencing a story that is completely unrelated to the original narrative. I found it really hard to relate to Abby and her side characters because they just seems irrelevant, and for that whole segment I was just waiting to get back to Ellies side of the story. I think Neil Druckman was attempting to humanise Abby and flesh out her story, but embodying this concept within an unrelated plot line just feels frustrating.
Which leads us to the ending of the game, where Ellie ultimately spares Abby's life. Despite popular believe, I really liked how this story ended. Throughout the entirety of this game, we have seen Ellie take up every opportunity to get revenge on Abby, regardless of what it cost. Time and time again Ellie has lost herself to revenge, and towards the end of the story, we see her final chance to walk away from this destructive lifestyle, as she is holding Abby under the water. For me, this moment was so powerful and tense, and I found myself hoping that Ellie would end her destructive cycle here and spare Abby in this one moment, and that is what she does. Even though Ellie has lost so much and sacrificed everything just to kill Abby, it is only as her own self destructive cycle of violence is about to end where she sees how little meaning is left in killing Abby, and decides to use this final moment to turn everything around. Up until this point, the player had no hope that we would ever see the same Ellie that we have known to love, as she has become this cold hearted monster. But this moment acts as the smallest bit of hope for the player to hold on to that the real Ellie isn’t lost after all. I think this is a good game because of these deep, powerful, though provoking themes, and I think it is an excellent example of great story telling.

The game has incredible presentation as is par for Naughty Dog. Playing on PS4 pro, the game has phenomenal graphics, some of the best animations I've ever seen, absolutely glorious surfacing for things like water and asphalt, the voice acting is as great as ever. The gameplay as well stands out to me. I continually ran into issues with poor balancing (easy difficulties are way too easy, hard difficulties are way to hard) I think this is an issue of the gaming industry as a whole and it didn't prevent me from enjoying to gameplay save for a few very difficult encounters. The gameplay is pretty similar though largely improved from the first game. I played on the second hardest difficulty, Survivor, and my playthrough where I explored every optional path I could find took 40 hours. The average playtime is closer to 24-30 hours. Even with this 40 hour runtime I was never bored of the combat and the options it allowed me. The combat encounters, especially against the infected enemies, are almost puzzle like in ways. It rewards knowledge of enemy AI, proficiency with the game's weapons, and familiarity with the arenas where you fight these enemies, in a very satisfying way.

And now.. to the story. Spoilers here of course.
    ----------

The first half of the game you play as Ellie from the first game, Ellie has some great gameplay sections, one oddly inserted and forgettable car chase, but an amazing open world section with lots to explore and goodies to find. Her story is fine if not a bit cliched.

The second half of the game you play as Abby, who Ellie has been trying to kill the entire game. They force you into this character to be polarizing and shocking. You unfortunately have to actively force yourself to side with Abby, this isn't a fault of Abby's story, but rather Ellie's motivations, which linger after playing as her for 15 hours. If you can manage to distance yourself from Ellie, Abby is very entertaining and fun to play as. Her gameplay sequences clearly were a little less polished but were still greatly enjoyable. I think Ellie's story alone is pretty good. Abby's story alone is really great. When the game tries to merge the two together, it fails entirely.

One of the best games (accessible also) I’ve ever played. It was so good I didn’t want to play any other game for a month.

It is for those who want to play a good stealth, survivor game with really deep story.

    Pros:
Excellent graphics, sound and music, voice acting, narrative, game play.
    Cons:
    none

The biggest surprise was the accessibility options. I was planning to buy it with a price drop but half a month before the launch I heart that there accessibility options. I am visually impaired individual so I wanted to experience a game in a more accessible way. So I’ve pre-ordered the Special Edition so as to show the developers how important is that for me.
I begun playing the game on 19 of June and I’ve stopped playing on 15 of August. I used the TTS options, the one that makes a sound for enemies and items if you enable it and the high-contrast mode (enemies red – allies blue).

    Outcome:
It is the 2nd game in witch I have a platinum trophy, and I’ve played a lot of games.
It was the first time I was playing with my back in the chair. Usually I play with my face 3 inches away from the screen.
I could read for the first time all the documents (thanks to TTS).
I have died less times than in other games but every time I was losing I was feeling safe.

Many thanks to the developers I wish more games were so accessible.

Finally, a lot of people criticize the game of hidden agendas and other things. I have to say that this is simply a game. If someone wants to disagree with the creators he/she can do that through out civilized ways.

    But this game, oh boy.
I absolutely loved first game, it was one of best games I ever played. And I played a lot.
And second is also fantastic but only from technical aspect. Graphics, gameplay, weapons, physics are fantastic.
But story is such crap I can't believe it. It's nothing more then advancing LGBT agenda. They used one of the most popular games to promote LGBT, transgender characters etc. It seems like it was written by bunch of male haters. Killing Joel, common? One of the most loved characters ever?
But ok, I could live with that but then game forced you to play with person who killed him. For half of the game!? WTF? I was really disgusted with that concept. And in the end, when you finally have chance to kill that disgusting character game writers are letting her go?! Really?! **** really!? They even don't leave choice in killing her or let her go, just one, disappointing end.
I have advice for all who loved first game, when you come to part where Abby comes to theater save your progress manually. And then leave Ellie to kill Abby over and over again. It was most enjoyable moment in whole game. You can finish it later but trust me, save that spot. The game wouldn't end the way you like it.
This LGBT trend started long ago with movies and series but they leaved games out of it.
Unfortunately, now they go to game turfs also. It started with that Uncharted expansion The lost legacy, that was so, so, but in this game it's clear what they wanted. Male heroes gone and introducing female characters and LGBT agenda. Nothing more.
    Disgusting trend.
I would think again when I would buy another Naughty dog game again.
So much for me and please, don't forget to save game on that theater spot so you can enjoy in killing Abby, no need to thank me.
