What the hell did I just play? I was expecting a story that revolved around Ellie and Joel. Why did it make me play 11 hours with abby? What a disaster. Oh well, better get back to playing some COD, need to wash this sticky mess out of my hair.

The Lats of Us 2 is great but how they interpret our adorable Joel in a such of despicable way that makes me cringe. I could handle until the end, and I will tell ya. It was a great experience, I loved the graphics and how everything looks, and even the new character called Abby.
Still makes me wonder why did the direction bother to show lesbian sex scene but did not even mind Neil doing

This game made me feel a way that no game has ever done before. But be warned, this game is not a happy game nor a game for teens that think every story is about a hero and a villain. This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. This game had amazing graphics and a wonderful sound track. The combat system worked just as well as the first game. I fell in love with the added ammo and crafted items. I absolutely hated what they did to the story. The direction they took with the story could have been acceptable if they went about another way. Joel's death would have been fine if it would have been later in the game, not the first 10 minutes. The real stab in the back is being forced the play the character that killed him. Splitting the game into two separate people that you need to essentially build from scrap is not cool. I hate that they made an attempt to get you emotionally involved with her. It's sickening. The cherry on top is not being able to kill her in the end. You suck Naughty Dog, thank you for taking my money and wasting my time on this pile of stinking garbage. Expand

But it never got too pushy or over the top. I really liked Elle the actress is superb for sure. But it was Abby that truly took it for me, she made me feel so bad for her. By the end I was hating Elle! I really felt like her and Joel were very well explained, though we have known and loved them. They are definitely not good guys. I really enjoyed this story. Much better than most big budget movies. This game kind of drags on. At one point I thought it was the ending but it kept going for many more hours. A true Masterpiece, not without it's narrative flaws. But other than a tiny hiccup I believe it is one of the best games of all time! Highly recommend. Expand

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. You have got to be kidding. This game is a freaking masterpiece. There is not a criticism such as like "why the hell you guys killed joel." This is childhish as **** Joel is not a super hero, and he is not innocent as you think he is. There are no rights and wrongs, everybody does their own **** moves in their lifes. This is real conflict. This is real dramaturgy. Gameplay, grapchis, audio design, story and everything about this is freaking amazing and mindblowing. Neil and his team Naughty Dog brought something realy special thing that you guys may understand its value after a long time, maybe in ten or twenty years. Life is not perfect, and human being is not at all too. I'm not writing with too much attention but all i can say is again and again, this game is a freaking piece of art. It is pretty clear that "gamers" are not capable of understand a "story" and how to "read it." "Disrespectful to the Joel." What da **** that supposed to mean? Disrespect? Jesus ****ing christ, Joel tortured and killed lots of people through his life. He did these ****s too. Again, human being is not perfect. Nobody is a superhero. If TLOU Part 1 was about Abby and his journey, and at the end of the game some guy Joel came and killed her dad, you would beg for the Part II, at get the revenge of your dad as Abby. All aside, i don't think that Abby is a well written character as Joel and Ellie. As an "audience", i still love Joey and Ellie more than Abby. But this is what game want to tell you. Nobody is perfect. If Neil would just cut down the ****s about his sjw bull****s, (Which even they are is not stand out as people say, the elements like homosexuality, different ethnic origins etc. are nicely fed to the story, these elements are not unorganic and feels like a propaganda. Nevermind, not even a major point.) he would make lots of amazing games with his team. I don't think we need a Part III for The Last of Us since it completes itself with a very, but very good ending, i would like the see "the end of everything." I really wonder Ellie's end, not too much Abby's though but i would like to see hers too. Wonder what Ellie gonna do with is life, since it's compeletly broken and scattered. Expand

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. The first thing you need to understand is that I only just played through both the first game (Remastered) and the 2nd game for the first time back to back this month with the launch of the PS5 (Yes, I was able to preorder one when they went live in September and I got the digital edition console on November 12th). I Played through Part I through the PS+ collection and I bought Part II for half price during the Black Friday sales on the PlayStation store.

Unlike the vast majority of the people who posted their 1/10 reviews 2 hours after the game came out because they (SPOILER ALERT!) killed off Joel very early on and couldn't be bothered to play the rest to actually find out why she killed him. I actually just finished playing through Part II from beginning to end. I went into both games completely blind apart from a few key details I already knew due to how much of a phenomenon they became. For example, I already knew that Ellie was immune going into the 1st game and I already knew that Joel dies in the Part II due to the leaks earlier in the year before the game released.

First, my brief thoughts on the 1st game... absolutely loved it overall. I loved the dynamic between Joel and Ellie, the story was fantastic and the gameplay was solid. I would give it a solid 8/10.

Now for Part II. First, I would like to tell you what I loved about the game. The music was incredible. The graphics were some of the best I have ever seen, the voice acting and the mo-cap was award worthy, which is great because both Ashley Johnson and Laura Bailey were both nominated for The Game Awards and they are both totally deserving. The flashback with Joel and Ellie in the dinosaur/space museum was my favourite part of the game. I know some people hated her, but I loved the character of Abby. Her killing Joel because he was the one who killed her father, the man... the Dr. that was going to do the surgery on Ellie to create a vaccine for the virus was absolutely genius in my opinion. The gameplay was better and more refined than the 1st game. I also do not have a problem with how Abby killed Joel considering what Joel did to her family, that being her dad and the rest of the Fireflies. Honestly, what she did to Joel reminded me of What Negan did to Glenn and Abraham on the Walking Dead. He killed two beloved characters on that show, but prior to that, Rick and his group sneaked into one of Negan's bases in the middle of the night and murdered everyone in there IN THEIR SLEEP! If I was Negan or Abby in their situation, I probably would have done the same thing. I think the only reason that people had a problem with it is because of her gender and how she looked. She did not look like a typical female because she was ripped. What the **** is wrong with that? If you were living in a post-apocalyptic world with barely any food and constantly walking around, travelling and killing infected, I bet you would get a little jacked over time too.

The game itself, because of the story and how it is played out is very depressing and difficult to play at times (especially having to kill dogs, that was not pleasant). This certainly was not a fun family game to play like Mario or even the Uncharted series, also from Naughty Dog, but because of how good the story, characters and gameplay were, it kept me invested and motivated to finish it.

The only thing I would say I didn't like about the game was the ending. Firstly, it dragged on for way too long (bit like the 3rd Lord of the Rings movie) and also, Ellie left her wife (I assume Dina was her wife by that point) and child (technically not her biological child but whatever) behind to pursue and end things with Abby, and she ultimately just lets her go. That made no sense to me, but hey, maybe that was a setup for Part III, who knows.

I also, unlike many other people who played this game, am not so insecure in my own self, in that I have absolutely no problem whatsoever with Ellie's romantic relationship with Dina. I think it was very well written and acted, especially the joke where Dina tells Ellie she is pregnant and says "Don't worry, it;s not yours". I know plenty of people in my own personal life who are gay or lesbian and it does not bother me in the slightest. Anybody who says that Naughty Dog or other companies like Lucasfilm for example have no interest in making good content and only care about pushing and SJW narrative should rally be left to turn into infected.

In conclusion, I actually liked this game a tad more than the 1st one. If it wasn't for the ending, I would give it a perfect 10, but my rating is a 9/10. Absolutely phenomenal game. Naughty Dog truly are one of the best in the business and I cannot wait to see what they can do with the hardware of the PS5. Playing through both games back to back within a week was a surreal experience, but I am so glad that I finally did it. I will be absolutely shocked if this game does not win Game of the Year.

This game really has a deep storyline. It shows you what happens when you become obsessed with revenge and how our limited world view can sometimes cause us to become prejudiced too easily. There are two sides to every story, and most of the time, we only get a one-sided view of something. This game gives us multiple sides and the result is fascinating and really makes you think and examine how we may jump to conclusions in our normal, everyday lives.

The best part is watching the heads of bigoted immature gamer boys explode with rage over this game. It's been so enjoyable, boys! I wonder how many of them quit after the first 20 minutes, or when they were forced to play a new character, completely missing out on a chance to grow up a little? Regardless, this game is the game of the year and I look forward to more heads exploding and more gamer boy tears as this game rakes in the awards.

First of all, the graphics are amazing. The game it's absolutely beautiful in every detail.
The care for every small thing is something to be cheered, it's something else when you see your enemies calling for each others names desperately, giving them a deepness that I haven't seen before in a game.
Also, the game had some gameplay improvements that took the experience to a whole new level. The new level design is also amazing, giving some exploring liberty to the player, making it much less linear than TLO1.
This new structure give more power to the player, that has more strategy options on how he want to advance. There's also a really well thought system of abilities, and the choices you make will directly impact on how your gameplay will evolve.

The particular choice the game makes halfway through the story, which made many people angry was absolutely vital to increase the impact of the narrative.

The narrative: this is definitely the high point on this game. It's not made by easy choices and takes chances on making a new and groundbreaking experience. The directions taken here made this a much more mature and complex story that will leave all sort of questions in your head, There's no right and definitive answers and this is the beauty of it.

I don't believe that there's such thing as a perfect game, but The Last of Us get as close as possible to this.

The Last of Us Part 2

The Last of Us Part 2 is a great achievement in games but it is not perfect. This kind of game shows the problems with review score inflation. Most AAA games are far below The Last of Us Part II in scope and quality and yet gaming review sites and users will dole out 7, 8, and 9 out of 10 like every game with a $50M or greater budget is a masterpiece. Most games are not that good. The Last of Us Part 2 is.

Narratively, this game is an epic. The story goes all over the American west and from different perspectives. There was a time when this game could have been sold as two beefy 13 hour campaigns. For better or worse, gamers expect longer campaigns and studios are delivering. This game took me 26 hours to finish and none of it felt padded. Like a Rockstar game or The Witcher 3, every segment felt meaningful.

My problems with the game are the controls and the abuse of cutscenes and scripted events. The controls are simply awful. The game settings have a few auto-aim options and I should have selected them. Aiming feels terrible and I often reloaded a save because I couldn’t make easy headshots. At one point in the game, an NPC tells Ellie that Ellie is the best shot in city. If that’s true, then everyone else must have the accuracy of Star Wars Storm Trooper. Selecting weapons and reloading could also have been easier. The odd controls include pressing the right trigger to reload and can only fire a gun while holding the left trigger to aim. In 26 hours of playing the game, the obtuse controls never felt intuitive.

The game has every trope from every forced cutscene that has ever been in games. The player character will be grabbed when you open a door or crawl through a small space. It happens about a dozen times and you might think the player characters would go start to go through gaps with their guns pointed. There is a horror game quality that necessitates a few jump scares but none of them are scary when they happen ALL THE TIME! There are also times when you know that an enemy cannot be defeated because they are an essential character. An experienced, cynical gamer such as myself will not waste their ammo on scripted events.

The overall story is good and I do not want to spoil it, but the story depends on the characters never telling each other the whole story about anything. The entire game could be over before it started if certain characters said “I am _____, from ______, and I am mad because _______ did _______.” Instead the motivations of the characters are dangled before us as some kind of emotional mysteries. Again, as an experienced cynical gamer, I see these things immediately and grow a bit frustrated with the player characters.

Last point on the story, Ellie is a toxic codependent personality and I do not like her or support any of her decisions. She gives her friends ultimatums and uses their affection for her against them. All of her decisions are selfish, no matter how petty her goals. Her friends are codependent enablers. Good people and doggies die because their toxic relationships with each other. The player is given no choices to alter the narrative. You cannot redeem Ellie. This story is a tragedy and you have to play it out.

All in all, The Last of Part 2 is a game of the year contender. While I do think this game has endemic issues of an industry that defines a “survival game” as a game bad controls and frustrating scripted events, the game is meticulously designed with a giant scope and many, many wow moments.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. It's a remarkable story with excellent gameplay. There are few games that make me feel as much emotion and interest in the characters as The Last of Us. Most of the characters feel very vivid and alive, and this creates a powerful interest in their story.

There are some clear problems with the story telling at points, however. I think the switch to playing as Abby was ultimately a creative pursuit that came at the cost of the player’s enjoyment of the game. Whilst it was a unique and interesting transition to go from anger and dislike of Abby, to eventually forgiveness; the player has to endure hours of quite unpleasant and uncomfortable gameplay to get to that point. The first few hours playing as Abby were not enjoyable for me, and I simply wanted to return to the story I was already invested in with Ellie. It felt like a grind to get through these few hours and whilst I did not hate Abby, and understood why she killed Joel, I had no interest in her story for around half her tale. So whilst it was an admirable feat, to turn the player from anger to forgiveness, it felt more like the writers were trying to demonstrate their writing ability in steering the player’s emotions, and for me this came at the cost of my enjoyment of a substantial portion of the game. Some may argue that those unpleasant first few hours as Abby are supposed to be that way, to create a satisfying transformation into forgiveness; in my case, I did feel forgiveness, but it was not worth those hours of uninteresting gameplay. Overall I would have just preferred to dive deeper into Ellie’s story, and have a few cutscenes to demonstrate Abby’s background. Perhaps if Abby’s tale was more intertwined with Ellie’s – offering us a different perspective on Ellie’s story, it may have felt more meaningful; but apart from a couple of scenes where there was some overlap, it felt very disconnected. In particular, I strongly disliked the section where you control Abby and are forced to try and kill Ellie. This I think was one of the most absurd decisions made in a video game I’ve played, again, the sense was that whilst it was an interesting dynamic and quite unique – it felt absolutely not enjoyable and offered no satisfying reward or outcome.

Overall, this is one of the best games I’ve ever played. My review focuses a lot on the negatives but this is simply because the positives are so refined it's hard to say much beyond they told an amazing story and it was one of the best experiences I’ve had with a video game. The first section playing as Ellie was a solid 9.5/10 for me, but the score was reduced to 8.5/10 upon playing Abby’s section.

Pros: great graphics, enviroments, art design, gunfights and mechanics. Once you start playing you can't stop until you've beaten the game. Also makes you reflect on how revenge can affect people and those around them.

Cons: the story-telling is quite linear and gives you zero choice about what's happening, so it loses a bit of the effect on the dramatic scenes. Additional info:

It's just a post-apocalyptic revenge story. Worse lie around is that Abby is transgender or transexual. She's not, she's just a buffed up woman.

The game tries to say "hey maybe Joel was a bad person",
the perspective changes depending on the person.

Ellie = Abby's perspective is bad.
Abby = Joel's perspective is the bad guy.

If you say that Ellie is a lesbian by inclusion, you are wrong, Ellie has been a lesbian since 2013. It is not new.

I miss Joel, but Ellie is also a good character.

The gameplay is very good, sometimes it is boring, when you fight it is beautiful.

The last of us (both games) don't have a good ending, those endings are very sad.

The game touches on these five things: denial, anger, bargaining, depression, and acceptance.

We are like Tommy, but Tommy does not accept Joel's death, he did not forgive, he did not change in the story, he wants revenge, but the goal of the game is to forgive.

This story is not simply about revenge, in the same way the original game was not simply a story about finding a cure.

The first game challenges you in its last moments to ask yourself who is good and who is bad, so does this game, and reinforces that in this dark, cruel world they live in, no life is treated as more special than another.

This game is bold, beautiful, and presents conflicts like never experienced before. If you can only look at this game through a shallow lens, you will hate it, but if you allow yourself to become immersed, you will find yourself experiencing a journey you would have never expected to be taken on.

    Easy 10/10.

This is one of the best games that i have had the pleasure to play in this generation,The gameplay is top notch and requires the utmost focus, flanking the enemy while trying to waste as less bullets as possible either by using stealth or by being a good shot, the AI is smart and doesn't automatically know your location like in 99% of other videogames, which makes the experience much, much more realistic and the gameplay very enjoyable and satisfying,Now The story has been misunderstood by many people,The games message was never revenge, it was forgiveness. When Ellie is drowning Abby she flashes to a memory of Joel and she spares Abby. We find out later that memory was of her learning to forgive Joel for what he did. She didn't kill Abby because revenge is bad, but because she realized she has to learn forgive Abby for what she's done. Both Abby and Ellie learn this but by they time they realize this they both lose almost everything they love because of the selfish choices they made. Ellie's choices even mirror Joel's. At the end of the first game Joel makes a selfish choice that damages his relationship with Ellie, and at the end of this game Ellie makes a selfish choice that damages her relationship with Dina. Stuff like this makes me appreciate the game even more. To me this game has far surpassed its predecessor and i hope tlou3 delivers well. P.S i can't stop thinking about TLOU2. Expand

This game does not aim to please fans, or cater to what they would have wanted in a story. Instead, if stays true to its own rules, and world that we were introduce to in the first game. Naughty Dog refrained from creating a cash grab feel good game, and instead tells a moving tale about revenge, humanity and the consequences of others, and your own actions. The game is gripping, moving, unrelenting, and somber, and people dislike it for it. Yet that was the tone of the first game. I really don't think anyone could create a real opinion on it unless you play it for yourself, or watch someone play through it fully. I won't ramble on about the graphics, but the gameplay is very similar to the first game, but almost every aspect of it has been improved here. Environments are huge, combat scenarios can be tackled in 10-20 different ways. There are some flaws here, as no game is perfect. Something that definitely could have been improved in my opinion, is the environmental storytelling. To much of it depends on stopping and reading a note, and I would have loved some fallout-esque set design. The pacing of the game can also be criticized, as the game can feel drawn out at some moments, both on the front end of the game, and the back end. They could have shaved 4-5 hours off, and I feel the the story would have flowed a bit better.

All in all, I thoroughly enjoyed my time in this game. Sure I didn't leave with a massive grin on my face, but not every story is ment to invoke that kind of response, but that sure as hell doesn't mean it's a bad story.

It was torture to play more than a half of the game as a character that had nothing, absolutly nothing that i like about it, this game is forced, manipulative and full of coincidences and conveniences, and yes, they could had killed Joel, i was expecting that already, but i trusted them that they would respect one of the most beloved protagonist in videogame history and make something really good ...but no i was wrong...this is not a game about Joel (is a game about Abby) so lets kill him quickly in the first half hour of the game..this is **** even my girlfriend who adore the first game and love even more Ellie (more than she loves Joel), she even make the tattoo on her arm, can't stand Abby, she lost total interest in the game after she began to play as Abby....and she did not finished the game, but she keep saying how she want to kill Abby and avenge Joel's death...(too bad...right?)..

So, yes the game is beautifull and intense, great enviroment, BUT YES, they gone political as hell in this game, the way characters are treated in this game is horrible, Jesse died and they never even touched on the matter...Joel and Tommy are far from been those smart and lived characters from the first game....The only kind of people who liked this game are those who dont have a clue how to make a movie or a game, those who never experince something as intense as this game, summing up, people who never played a real good game in their lifes, because it need more than been intense to be a great game, it need to be consistent and make sense, be coherent....and this game is not any of these. People dont know how to feel, they just know they feel something....and they dont care if it is well made...its like been punched in the face, these "The Last of Us lovers" are been punched in the face, they did not liked, it hurt them, but they know they feelt something, and thats enough for them, they did not care if it made sense or not.

Naughty Dog has made a very bold move with this game. It's a story not everyone will like and that's ok. It's a harrowing, chilling, emotional story filled with revenge and ultimately forgiveness. It's not a satisfying or happy story but rather one that makes you think about what you've just experienced.

The Last of Us Part II is the high point of the PlayStation 4. The plot is controversial, but the game is the incredibly addictive adventure of Ellie, from which it is impossible to pull away from the opening and to the very end.

Not everyone is going to enjoy the motives of The Last of Us Part II. But if you try and manage to accept the subliminal and not so subtle messages as a fact that the world has gone awry and that people have the need to have somewhere or someone to belong to as their own way out, then... You will witness the boundaries of gaming expand. You will witness a true masterpiece.

If you loved the original for its great characters and well-paced story – stay away from this game. However, if you’re aching to sink into the depths of depression, or just want to cut some throats and burn some zombies – Part II will deliver. [Issue#247, p.72]
