Tried my best to avoid spoilers, and went in with an "open mind."... this is all I have to say right now.... Joel is my favorite video game character of all time. My dogs were named after Joel and Ellie.... and after what I just watched(Skip to bottom for final assessment)... This review is in progress.... I thought the review bombing was out if hand, and wanted to give it a real chance. Tried my best to avoid spoilers, and went in with an "open mind."... this is all I have to say right now.... Joel is my favorite video game character of all time. My dogs were named after Joel and Ellie.... and after what I just watched happen... I don't even want to finish the game. 3/10 so far.

    Update: I've played a bit more, and the game is solid. Not much story wise, other than Dina taking jabs at killing "bad guys." There was a touching guitar moment, but nothing solid story wise. Gameplay and setting are top notch though. Up to 4/10.

    Update: Joel moments are well done, but also highlight what could've been. Up to 5/10.

    Update: Playing as Aaby is fun...is. 6/10

    Update: Just finished the game. My final score is an 8/10. I hated the story, the combat drags a bit, but the story ending wasn't bad. It was just depressing and not what I wanted. .That being said, I will never pick the game up again, and it was so manipulative that I won't buy another PS4 title and I'm trading in my PS4. I'll be buying a Nintendo Switch and play actual games with the intent to have fun. Incredibly depressing experience that killed my love for the medium. So they did a good job I guess, if I feel that strongly.

Yet I feel like I’ve been slapped in the face, they brutalized Joel, (a beloved character) by this hulk psychopath (female?) character, who they then force you to control all the while trying to develop this connection, when in fact you just hate it everything about “Abby” screams die in a fire yet, they make you keep on truckin’. Then the SJW crap my god.... it’s sooooo woke. WAKE up people, it’s set approximately 30 years after the zombie apocalypse, 13 year old kids ( who by the way grows up in an antiquated tribe like environment), will not have the “decadent luxury” of deciding they’re going to choose their gender... they’ll be a little preoccupied with, you know not dying... oh and they also won’t have the fantastic media we have today to push narratives on troubled or mentally ill youth. All that being said the gameplay and most of the other factors of the actual VIDEO GAME work great, play it on mute and for gods sake skip the cutscenes. Shame first game way almost completely story driven this one just makes me angry.… Expand

Aí começa uma jornada maravilhosa com a Ellie com vários momentos marcantes e matando muitos dos que faltavam para sua vingança, faltando basicamente a então vilã do jogo, Abby, porém ela que acaba encontrando Ellie e até então ela iria mata-lá, nesse momento que o jogo faz uma coisa única e que me surpreende completamente, ele nos faz jogar com a Abby e mostra o seu lado na história, me deixando puto de início por que eu a odiava mas já no início de sua gameplay já nos mostra o por que de seu ódio ao Joel, Abby era filha do cirurgião que Joel matou, já fazendo a gente gostar mais da personagem, e no desenrolar da trama nós já estamos gostando muito da Abby e não querendo que ela morra e voltamos a parte que ela iria matar a Ellie e deixa ela viver entendendo que a vingança não iria resolver nada e a perdoando, Ellie acaba se estabilizando com Dina e vivendo normal mas não deixa a vingança de lado e parte para voltar e tentar acabar com Abby fazendo um final impactante e maravilhoso. I am honestly thinking about getting counseling for how terrible this game is. It messes with you too. There is no character growth, and no resolution its all around depressing in the end. Part 1 left you with hope for the future, i literally only finished it to satisfy my own curiosity. I saw the abismal user ratings before i played it but i thought hey maybe its bots... its not bots its bad. Not worth playing or buying. Just do yourself a favor and dont play it. This on the other hand is just cheap "look, character X is bad and you should feel bad. But look, character Y is good and everyone who hates them is bad".

    3. I wish I couldn't mention it because I want to try to judge this game by its own merit, but since the developers and defenders can't shut about it, I have to address it too:
    Its disgusting how hard do people try to label anyone who doesn't like the story as bigots, transphobic, homophobic, sexist or whatever.
    Having those characters doesn't matter Shouldn't matter if you really want to be inclusive.
    What does matter is trying to use them as shields from criticism and to appear good.

    Side note - it's the most accessible game I've ever seen. I don't have any limiting problems now, but having experienced physical trauma that restricted my ability to play games once i felt what its like to not being able to enjoy games. And some people have it there all life. One thing i want to praise this game is all the options to change controls and stuff to make it playable.

    That's why my immense disappointment with the story and the stupid controversy doesn't let me give it a 0/10    … Expand

    Unforgetable experience that transcens playing games. The story, the characters, the details...probably the best graphics of his generation. Mastepiece. (All the hate comes from the same scene in the game.)

    This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. First off, the gameplay is identical to the first instalment - scavenging, gun battles, modding weapons and creating explosives. It's all there. The dialogue is great and well acted and the graphics are beautiful. Some of the best you'll see on the PS4.
    The enemy AI is amazing, which makes the gun battles and stealth kills all the more enjoyable and satisfying. In short - if you loved the first game, you will love this game too, purely from a gameplay perspective.

    Now, having completed the game a few days ago, I'm still thinking about it and it even compelled me to come here and leave a review.
    This game is all about an emotive narrative - it will anger you, it will make you sad and it will also have you questioning what a protagonist really is and what an antagonist really is.
    As in life, we all have our stories and we can all justify our actions. Put that in a post apocalyptic setting, where the only rule is survival, the ways things 'played' out in the game isn't too overly far fetched.
    Okay, there are some weak points: Why would Joel and Tommy volunteer who they are and where they live to strangers? Why was Ellie spared multiple times throughout the game?
    But how many times do you watch a movie or a TV series (that you love) where you find yourself asking these things, and who's to say these won't be addressed and answered in the next Last of Us game (there has to be one, surely?).

    However, the driving force here is how emotive it is.

    The overall feeling from this game is loss; it's a tragic story and yes, devastating things happen to characters we love. But it's a cruel world and bad things happen everyday, so imagine what it's like in their world? This has to be taken into account - there are no protagonists or antagonists in this world, just survivors.
    Joel did some horrific things in the build up to meeting Ellie and it's even said by Ellie during the gameplay (when scavenging with Dina).
    People's actions have consequences and despite all the loss and brutality, Abby and Ellie show flashes of compassion towards one another, as they're also struggling with what's 'right' and what's 'wrong'.

    You might not like how the story plays out, but that's how it goes sometimes - it doesn't mean it's a bad game or even a bad story. Far from it.    … Expand

    TLOU Part II is a great game and a wonderful sequel to the first game...
    The graphics are insane!
    Both enemies and allies AI are awesome (in a +moderate difficulty) The story is perfect and the way that naughty dog staged it is just god tier!!!
    You'll love it so much, this game is a must-play, just play it with an open minde instead of blindly hating it....

    La primera sensación tras poner The Last of Us Part II en mi consola, fue la de estar ante el juego de la década. La puesta escena, el trasfondo narrativo y los valores de producción se sentían fantásticos, uno de esos juegos que desprenden cariño y dedicación por cada uno de sus costados. Creo además, que sonoramente supone un punto de inflexión en los juegos de gran presupuesto, laLa primera sensación tras poner The Last of Us Part II en mi consola, fue la de estar ante el juego de la década. La puesta escena, el trasfondo narrativo y los valores de producción se sentían fantásticos, uno de esos juegos que desprenden cariño y dedicación por cada uno de sus costados. Creo además, que sonoramente supone un punto de inflexión en los juegos de gran presupuesto, la inmersión en el mundo es absoluta gracias a este aspecto, y suma sin duda alguna, un plus extra a la experiencia. Sin embargo lo bueno acaba ahí, cuando profundizas en su jugabilidad te sumerges en mecánicas toscas y poco intuitivas, lo que termina lastrando la experiencia. Además a nivel narrativo presenta algunas incongruencias, especialmente en el caso de Joel, y visualmente no parece aquél juego que nos deslumbró en el ya lejano E3 2018. En cuanto a la IA amiga parece hacer perfectamente su función, pero la enemiga vuelve a estar lejos del rango de acción que se mostró en el E3 2018.

    Por otra parte el juego presenta algunos problemas técnicos en forma de bugs que en algunos casos te forzarán a reiniciar tu progreso en el juego.

    Cómo conclusión señalar que The Last of Us II es un juego que se propuso unas cuotas de ambición que se convirtieron en utópicas tras los problemas de desarrollo. Aún así sigue siendo una experiencia positiva si te gusta el género.    … Expand

    I have never written reviews before. But it’s just not fair. The plot is top notch. But there is one problem. What's happened to music? Where did that splendor of the first part go? Don't say this **** up because of the main theme of the game - anger. Bam. bam. bam. - this is not anger, this is idiocy. Sorry.

    one of the best games of the year def. story is great, engaging, emotional, full of important discussions and the characters are beautifully developed from the prequel.
    gameplay is awesome, innovations are great.

    a game that will always be remembered as a masterpiece after the hate speech era ends, and it's close.

    Love this game, a masterpiece like all Sony exclusives. The story is very harsh and unexpected might be too harsh for people who are watching too much Netflix. I would put it 9 but put 10 because of lying reviews over here.

    This game is simply a masterpiece! A little bit too long maybe but I understand why the developers did that. Deserved Game of the Year! If you own a PS4 then play this. But make sure you have played the first game before, else you won't have the same emotional impact.

    Only reading qualities are the attention to detail in graphics and gameplay. It’s a technical marvel. But it’s a linear narrative game, which fails at demonstrably. If you are a fan of the first one and have developed a connection with these characters, the sequel, this game, will throw away everything that made the first game so good, and spit in your face while at it. Imagine playing the masterpiece that is the first game, and wait for 7 years to know and experience what happens with the characters that you grew to love, only for them to go the direction that they did, leading you off a cliff and while you fall, you just wish for the fall to end but keep going for hours until you crash into the ground, and the crash is worse than what you expect. Naughty dog was under the impression that if their art made you feel hate towards it, then that means their artistically good. There is nothing clever about the garbage story that was this game. There were numerous plot armor and plot convent moments and out right out of character moments and just plain retarded decision made. The new characters are not nearly as interesting as the ones in the first game and the ones you already know are put on the backseat, and the drivers are characters that the game tries so hard to make you give a **** about but fails and just turns into a shore to tolerate them whenever they’re on screen. For hours. Of course there were some social justice elements in there but they could be dismissed because the direction the franchise chose with the narrative is way more devastating and is the main problem that people have with this game. It might be more bearable to a new comer but if you played the first game, do not, I repeat, do not play the sequel. It will ruin your outlook on the franchise. What naughty dog is doing is dismissing us as haters and bigots and not realize that we were huge fans of the first game. But because of their arrogance and denial, they have their “set in their way” attitude, dismissing valid criticism as ignorance. They genuinely think that some are bad people for hating their garbage narrative, thinking they have the moral high-horse. When in reality, they’re just standing on a big pile of **** that is their game. Kinda shows how fragile their ego is. I used to have such high respect for this company, but after what they did, especially after the fact that they spit at their long time fans, they lost all credibility for me and have of their fan base.     You wanna tell a story with a female lead, Fine!

    Absolutely brilliant storytelling, impressive graphics, incredible face animation and characters ...but the most important thing is how this game manages to hook you from the first moment from the dramatic and emotional point of view, with an interesting, emotional and coherent story.

    I have never in my life seen a full blown media campaign to save a game with such poor story and narrative. Idk if its pity or naughty dog has stron infliences I enjoyed every piece of uncharted content over this game it is by far the weakest product naughty dog.     Great gameplay and a technical masterpiece. But the story is wholely unsatisfying and poorly written. The second half of the game will make you want to stop playing. Combined with the false advertising of ND with the misleading trailers before release, makes this game average at best. Worth a play at a deep sale.

The second game does some good things when it comes to gameplay and survival but the real thing anyone bought this game for was the story(specifically Ellie and Joel). People bought this game because they fell in love with the characters in the first game and wanted to see them get a happy ending. However this game tries to teach players a lesson about there being 2 sides to every story and that humans make mistakes and that the people we love can be bad. But it’s just fking terrible. The way they deliver the death of a beloved character early on is just fking retarded and then they try to get u to like the person that killed that character by getting her to pet a dog. This game is trash. Any fans of the first game would not enjoy this one because it’s basically naughtydog taking a **** on the characters in order to sell this story of 2 sides and introducing a new character nobody wanted. Whatever person that likes these new characters is an absolute scrotum cause these guys have no problem being **** on. And after all the bull**** U would think they’d come up with an ending that left you satisfied and made u fell it was all worth it. But the ending was even more pointless than the game. This game is an absolute waste of everybody’s time. And some people would have you believe that the reason gamers don’t like this game is because all the social justice **** they put in here. Nobody gives a **** that the protagonists are female and nobody gives another **** about Ellie being lesbian. I’m happy for her even!! It does have good graphics though so I guess that’s a redeeming part of the cutscene with some gameplay sprinkled in whatever you want to call this medium. It’s certainly no game that’s for sure.     The techincal exeuction is next-gen - the sound system, graphics, and, man oh man, the gameplay. Lots of fun mechanics that just work. Also incredible details - i spent up to 10 hours just looking at environments. reading cafe's menus :D And playing guitar. of course.

    As of the critique - the story is of the suffering. It delivers terrible blows - not anyone would like it.
    Also, for me, the story was a bit too long - i'd cut 4 to 5 hours of it.

    But overall - I think, it at least is worth experiencing.
    Much better if you play the 1st game beforehand.

And here is my review : Tlou 2 is a very ambitious game that is depressing yet it’s the brutal realism that raises the bar of gore and tension that I’ve never before felt in a video game despite playing on the second easiest difficulty. The story and some dialogue can feel awkward at times but it’s the acting that can sells the story. I know for a fact that most of the SJW stuff that was pushed into the story was probably because of druckmann however that does not warrant framing the game a disaster like most people have. The story for the most part is pretty good , I understand that most people don’t like that Joel died but the fact is that if someone like Jesse died and this was his revenge story then it would fall flat because we the player don’t know or care that much about Jesse. By killing Joel they ignite anger from the player and thus drive forward the revenge plot of the game with you relating with how Ellie feels. Slowly you start disconnecting from Ellie as she commits horrid acts like killing a pregnant woman and actual people without remorse that slowly ushers in the theme of just how monstrous humans can be. As Ellie is descending into madness in a drive of vengeance and redemption Abby is ascending up by bonding with her friends and moving on but she realised that she now has no purpose now that her fathers killer is dead but eventually Lev enters her like and like Joel with Ellie,Abby slowly becomes more and more humane as she and lev become more attached and try to survive. It’s genuinely an enthralling story that never feels like a drag or too far fetched , Ellie gets injured easily , crafting is a must , resources are scarce,numbers are never on your side and (spoiler free) characters you actually started to care about die without warning or build up which feel sudden but realistic at the same time.Overall the story is dark and unsettling but that’s what last of us has always been. But even if you don’t agree with the story and it’s direction( which isn’t for everyone) the game play is a unanimous W because it excels everywhere the original may have lacked , that is only possible to the variety of new systems and weapons at your disposal not to mention a lot of movement and parkour not possible before. It’s also nice that Abby and Ellie play every differently from each other as Ellie favours stealth while Abby favours strength and momentum. Boss fights for the most part are good but three stand out from the rest and that has to be the Ellie boss fight, Tommy(Sniper) and rat king boss fight. It’s amazing when fighting Ellie how she uses all the weapons and techniques you learned against you and it’s truly tense , similarly the sniper boss fight may feel like a slow drag but it’s paranoia of not knowing when you may get shot that’s really gets you but the rat king bloater boss fight is my favourite from the game due to the sheer stress and tension you feel throughout the 15-20 min fight. It’s been a while since I’ve felt sad after beating a game , it’s normally joy or excitement but this shows you that tlou2 is not like other games. A game that emotionally invests you is W in my book regardless of what the majority think. The ending also feels depressing yet slightly satisfying as Ellie finds a battered and broken Abby and is ready to kill her but when she sees what’s become of Abby and the fact that Abby hurries straight to lev and even offers Ellie a way out but as the memories come back to Ellie she fights Abby and I felt bad as Ellie was drowning Abby I didn’t feel like I was winning , killing a dying woman that only cared about the survival of her companion lev. But then all of sudden Ellie get a memory not the one of Joel dying like she did for the rest of the game but the memory of their last conversation and remembering that Ellie had forgiven Joel and that he died on good terms with her brought her the satisfaction that she had thirsted for so long, not Abby death but a simple memory was enough to make Ellie remember that killing Abby would only send her even more down into the madness that had taken ahold of her and so she lets Abby go and returns to the farm. Where she is unable to play the Joel’s guitar, his last memory for her. And thus she’s able to move on. It may not be better then the original but it’s in no way worse.
    All in all a 8.8/10 from me    … Expand

First things first; is it as good as the first game? Absolutely not. Even the people praising this game will admit that, in terms of the story it has to tell, it doesn't quite live up to that of the original TLOU. It was, however, most likely the best sequel that we could hope for. Everybody will agree that this game excels in most regards. The graphics are breathtaking and arguably the best on the market right now, the music is masterful, the gameplay offers everything that the first game did and then some, and the actors involved put on an outstanding performance and really brought the characters to life. Nobody gripes about those (and nobody gives the game credit for them, either, unfortunately.) The real problem most people have is with the story.

    I would first like to clarify that it is not, by any means, a bad story. I will accept the argument that it is painfully underwhelming, because it doesn't compare to the first game's story, but it's not BAD per se. I went into this game with low expectations after hearing what everyone online was claiming, but I was pleasantly surprised. I ended up thoroughly enjoying the game. It's a bit slow to start, but the gameplay immediately roped me in. Even if you're the type of person who is disappointed by the plot and thinks that it's painfully mediocre or even bad, I would still say that the game is worth playing solely for the other things it has to offer (music, gameplay, visuals, etc). The story is definitely very different from The Last of Us 1, but during my play through, I was still engaged for all of it. Demanding that the quality of the sequel's story is on par with or exceeds that of the original game is asking too much, but the story this game presents is more than serviceable. The dual-narrative experience brings more to the table than your traditional, run-of-the-mill revenge story. and it forces you to empathize with characters who you would ordinarily vilify and allows you to see the events of the game through a completely different perspective. Across both narratives, the pieces of the plot gradually fall into place over the course of this slow-burning game, and in typical TLOU fashion, everything finally clicks together in a gritty conclusion that actually feels faithful to the cruel and unforgiving world that the game has constructed.

    At the end of the day, the game still seems to be a hit-or-miss. It still feels like The Last of Us, but some are disappointed with the plot. I would say that it's most likely due to how different it is from the first. All I can give is my personal experience, which was much more positive than many of my friends' experiences who also played through the game. If you enjoyed the gameplay of the first game, you will certainly enjoy the gameplay of TLOU2. The music fits the environment eerily well, and if nothing else, is at least worth a listen to on YouTube. The visuals are still stunning. If you end up enjoying the story like I did, you'll have a wonderful time with the game. If the story disappoints you, you'll most likely have an underwhelming and mediocre experience. I can only speculate, but I'd reckon that the reason people are so upset by this game is because it is not quite on the same level as they've come to expect by something with "The Last of Us" in the title. The story is more complex, and the characters aren't as fleshed out as they were in the first. The game takes some bold liberties with the plot, and if you're not eager to open your mind up to a little bit to change in how the series conveys its message differently than it did in the first, then this game may not be for you. The main thing dragging it down in most people's minds is likely the fact that it's a game related to TLOU. If this were a standalone game and its own IP, people would likely be much more fond of it, but some are not fans of the changes that were made.

    I would like to reiterate that I personally enjoyed the game very much, and don’t think it was detrimental to the franchise. I'm giving it a 9/10. It was definitely a game worth playing, but how well it lands is largely dependent on the player and how open they are to the risky developments that Naughty Dog has taken with the franchise. Either way, I would recommend playing it. It's not The Last of Us 1 by any means, but it's still a good game that I will likely play again at some point in time.    … Expand
