Very simple gameplay and a lack of content brings down what is an otherwise stunning game. The whopping $50 season pass being advertised on the main menu of the game that I've just spent sixty dollars on, doesn't exactly help, and makes my purchase and faith in their project feel unappreciated. But that's just my opinion ^_^ thanks for reading, if you did ^-^

Battlefront brings the excitement of Star Wars to gaming in a huge way with this game. However, the spawns are terrible and unfair for the rebels, there is far too much micro-transactions such as the season pass that is pushed on players, and there is no campaign or space battles in it to fully embrace Star Wars for what it is

SW universe is awesome. Beside that, the game is mediocre. Shooting is weird and it lacks balance.
At least the game is free of bugs which I give big kudos to EA. Finally they're not the worst company ever lol.
Better wait for patches and price drop.

Unlike its predecessots, the game leaves single-player gamers out to dry with no campaign mode, instead offering a tiny and unusually boring range of repetitive battles that lack action or purpose. Its like a generic shooting game with a Star Wars skin, but none of the soul.

On top of the lack of action, the range of maps/planets is underwhelming, and the maps are more like tiny arenas than battlefields.

Multiplayer is actually quite decent, and walker assault is a good example of the goal/strategy oriented missions that could save this game. The whole game has been designed as an online experience, which misses the point: Fans want to experience the Star Wars galaxy; to relive the battles and the excitement.

DLC might improve this game, but its fundamentals have missed the mark

Star Wars Battlefront is, for all intents and purposes, an incredible piece of software. It looks, sounds, runs, and plays incredibly well on your preferred platform. And the online stability is something to be applauded after Battlefield's rocky history with multiplayer servers.

Where Battlefront fails to deliver is in content. What's in the game is incredibly highly polished and well made, but after only a few hours, I was already begging for more. Yes, I am a 'hardcore' gamer. Yes, I fall into the class of players that burns through content abnormally fast. But I am also a person that understands the difference between burning through content too fast, and there not being enough in the first place.

Thought there are 9 modes, and they each have something to offer, there are only 2 that people actually talk about and play. Fighter Squadron, and Walker Assault. Fighter Squadron might as well not have different maps, and Walker Assault only has four. These four maps are very well made and are massive, but after a couple hours, they just start looping.

The game offers some limited customization, but this does not offer as much variety as the Battlefield series or the pre-made classes in previous Battlefront games. Instead of filling a dynamic role on your team, you are just a dude with a gun, no matter what gun or other abilities you pick.

In a time where free-to-play or buy-to-play games with huge collections of content are increasingly common, a game as slim as Battlefront just doesn't cut it anymore. And the prices being charged for the all-but-required DLC are just plain insulting.

So I am going to start with the good parts of Battlefront. The graphics are great the soundtrack is also great. Dice also managed to somehow capture the magic of Star Wars. From the dogfights with X-Wings and Tie Fighters down to how detailed and awesome Endor looks and feels. Endor looks amazing and is probably the best Star Wars map I have seen to date. You can really see how much effort EA put into some of the bigger maps such as Endor and Hoth. Now if only they would've done so with the rest of this game. The biggest problem with Battlefront is that this entire game feels rushed. Only 4 planets and 12 maps at launch is a huge disappointment. The worst part about this is that they have already confirmed 16 maps for the season pass. More maps as DLC than in the main game? That's low even for EA. Most of the maps aside from Hoth and Endor feel rushed and plain. The ice caves and the sand dunes all feel the same. They feel as if they were sloppily put together with little or no effort. Most of modes are pretty boring and average. You have your 20v20 modes such as Supremacy and Walker assault which are pretty much the only modes people are going to be playing. I had the opportunity to play Walker assault during the beta and to my surprise it was actually pretty fun. It wasn't perfect but I had a blast with it. Sadly EA has decided to change and dumb down most of the mode probably because of casuals complaining about how it was too hard for rebels to win or something. So a mode that use to take cooperation and effort to win (as the Rebels for the most part) has been dumbed down so much that you could probably be shooting into the sky and still win as the rebels. The weapons also feel dumbed down in both range and damage. Another part of this game I was really excited for was the Fighter Squadron mode. Granted it was no space battles but it looked really fun from the trailer. Sadly EA decided to go and make it 20v20 but with a catch. 10 real people on each team and 10 AI on each team. What the hell??? So half of the time you would be killing AI instead of people. Killing ships are also extremely easy it takes zero skill or effort. I managed to go on a 20 killsteak from just holding down L2 and shooting blindly. They have also decided to include heroes into the mix. You have 2 heroes you can play as, The Millennium Falcon or Slave 1. The biggest problem with the heroes is that they're too op. Now I know what your thinking the heroes are suppose to be op that's what makes them fun. But I have literally spent matches where I am behind Slave 1 the whole time shooting and firing missles only to do less than half damage. It's practically impossible to kill these heroes unless your entire team is on their ass. The biggest problem with Battlefront is the lack of content. Within 5 hours of this game I had already played everything in it! In the end Battlefront is a average game that was sloppily put together and rushed out to market by EA. However that's not to say that it's a awful game. I still managed to have some fun running around as Boba Fett or Han Solo shooting people. Dice has managed to really capture Star Wars perfectly in some aspects of the game (such as sound design, visuals, vehicles, music, etc) and you can really see what parts of the game that they really worked hard on and those parts are the best part of this game. In the end I would give this game a 6/10 and it's probably worth buying after a price drop and some updates. Expand

I kind of like the game despite its flaws. But the parts that make it good, are why it's flaws are so disappointing. It could have been amazing, instead it is just OK.

    PRO's:

    - Great graphics, and runs very smoothly on PS4

    - Great sound effects

    - Play as iconic Star Wars heroes and vehicles such as Darth Vader, Luke Skywalker, AT-ST, etc.

    - Shooting feels good and immersive (to me, some people don't seem to like it).

    - Lots of modes (9 I think, although only 2 or 3 are actually the main modes that most people will want to play).

    - Mode Walker Assault is a really cool idea for a mode set in the Star Wars universe, and it is generally a lot of fun.

    CON's:

    - LACK OF MAPS! There are essentially only 4 (!) maps for the most important modes (Walker Assault and Supremacy). The maps of both of these modes are rehashes of each other. There are some other maps for the other modes, but these also feel like different areas of the same 4 maps. I understand they only created 4 planets and 4 tile sets essentially, but they didn't bother to create some variety within these planets either. So basically 4 maps you play over, and over, and over. The maps are at least pretty big I guess.

    - The vehicles are not stationary on the map, but rather powerups that you can pick up. This means there is no actual feeling of realism when it comes to the actual battle. Also it is completely random whether or not you will happen upon a certain vehicle, which takes away the freedom of strategizing your battle, such as is possible in Battlefield games. The other thing about this is that you cannot go and destroy the other team's vehicles to mess with them, which is a shame.

    - You cannot get 2 people in a vehicle, only solo: This is a point that is not mentioned often, but I find the most annoying of all. In Battlefield games, a big part of the teamwork comes from the fact that you can be in a vehicle with teammates, and wreak havoc, capture control points together, etc.. The fact that all vehicles are solo only here makes it just so that you rack up more kills, and maybe help your team in the process, but it doesn't feel like it contributes a lot to the overall battle or tactics. This is compounded by the previous point that they are powerups, so you cannot even get them when you want.

    - No teamplay to speak of. This is related to the previous point. Also there is no chat, so you cannot strategize with teammates.

    - The air vehicles are completely useless to the battlefield. They only serve to destroy each other, and even then their handling is terrible. As a ground unit, I have NEVER, EVER been killed by an air unit. The only minor usefulness is in walker assault when the vehicles can help destroy the AT-AT's for a brief period when they are vulnerable.

    - Aim assist in a bit too generous, which makes it even more shallow than it already is, and takes away the skill aspect. It is okay for me, because I am terrible at console shooters, but this might be a big deal for some people.

Overall, I don't think this game deserves the awful Metacritic user score it has been getting. However, it is just so disappointing, because with a few different choices in game design, it could have been a spectacularly good game. Right now, it is just a fun little shooter for a while, but the lack of maps and depth in the gameplay means you will get bored of it quickly.

Graphics: the graphics are gorgeous, detailed, if i were reviewing games on graphics, the game would get a perfect score from me.

Sound: the game's sound makes you feel like you're on the battlefield 99.99% of the time.

Gameplay: the gameplay is decent to a certain extent, but after about 3 hours, you just get bored with it, the controls are ok, and to get a little knit picky here, you don't have to reload any of your guns.

Cons: the game is incredibly imbalanced, especially on walker assault where the empire has all kinds of weapons and the rebels have nothing, you may as well give the empire swords and give the rebels rocks.

I would recommend just renting this game for a weekend, or buying it and just playing it when you're bored or don't have anything better to do

EA has offered a product that appeals to a wide range of fan bases. The graphics are the brightest points that the game offers, while the lack of a story mode limits the experience. The very limited offering of weapons and modes drags the game down as does the lack of weapon damage drop off. Overall the game looks far better than it plays, and the mechanics get old too fast.

Full Review: Battlefront for the PS4 has been equipped with all of the frills of FPS gameplay - powerful visuals, great graphics, plenty of weapon variety, and engaging combat mechanics. And yet, they stripped of most of the things that made the franchise charming, unique and lovable. No more "Galactic War" gameplay modes, no campaigns, and no more leading your troops with AI commands.

What's left is a game with bare bones Single Player and Split-screen modes, and an Online Multiplayer that has almost nothing to distinguish it from every other major FPS on the market. The fact that this game is more-or-less entirely Online Multiplayer focused could be acceptable if they gave the online games depth, i.e. lots of maps, complex objectives, game-mode customization.

However, the game has only a handful of maps, simple objectives, and basic modes. Following in EA's traditional customer-gouging custom, several of extra maps, which should have been included to make this barren game feel more complete, only come at a high extra cost.

I must admit, I did find the Online Multiplayer to be a somewhat addicting experience. There certainly were positives in the combat mechanics, visuals, and trying out different vehicles and weaponry. However, I cannot get over the fact that this game feels so empty and incomplete.

I have now been playing around 9 hours after I forced myself to get into it, and am now at level 13. I can safely say SW:BF gets better once you have a few item unlocks, when you know the maps, and when you can distinguish the good from the bad modes - walker assault for instance is pretty amazing once you know what you have to do. It is still basic shallow pew-pew shooting but it pulls you in, especially the endor map. Hero hunt on the other hand is a load of BS, avoid this... Mediocre/potentially fun modes are cargo (CTF equivalent) and fighter squadron... the latter can be fun to jump into every now and again, but it is frustrating how barren the gameplay is at times.

Overall this game has grown on me over the past few days, and anyone who is a serious star wars fan should give it a go. It is, however, nothing more than a shallow 3rd person/fps game that could have been so much more... if only DICE had added classes and a single player campaign...

    Buy only when on offer.

Sure the fan service is HERE, but what you are given are 4-5 stages, some cool story characters to play as and thats it. For the exception of the normal leveling, battlepack and stat system similar to DICE multiplayer games, there isn't much else in the base game. Also, forget the single player, there isn't much there except a tutorial to the MP.

DICE and a lot of other companies NEED to see the writing on the wall. YOUR COMMUNITIES ARE NOT BUYING THE DLC!!! Simply look at the map browser, tell me how many games are being played on a DLC map. Yeah. (Sorry about the rant)

Considering you can get this relatively cheap now, you won't feel as cheated as I was.

For 20 bucks, ITS WORTH IT! But be ready to shell out cash for the DLC if you see a lacking product.

How is it possible to create a star wars game with no single player at all? Very disappointing and laziness from EA. This game could've been amazing if it had a single player campaign. The graphics and shooting is nice but besides those 2 everything else is a disappointment

I know I am probably in the minority when I say this, but I’m not really big on online multiplayer, which is something this game almost completely relies on. It has no single player story, just a couple different modes that aren’t all that fun and take about only an hour to complete. The computer A.I. is a little off and it is never as fun as playing online. I would have liked to see a story unfold full of my favorite Star Wars characters, such as the one in Disney Infinity 3.0, which is probably the best Star Wars game of the year, oddly enough. After spending several hours with Battlefront, I am sad to say the luster wore off pretty quickly.

    swb2

Battlefront’s visuals and sound design are its strongest assets, along with the multiplayer action. There are around eight modes you can play online. A few notables are Droid Run, Heroes vs Villains, Blast, Walker Assault, Cargo and Supremacy. With these modes, players are able to play as their favorite hero or villain and battle against the opposing side, take cargo from one side of a map to the others, while also defending it, and have an all-out war with 20 vs 20 or 10 vs 10 players. These are just a few examples. My favorites were Cargo, Blast and Heroes vs Villains. While my time with the game was fun while it lasted, the fun began to fade. Even my love for Star Wars couldn’t save it. The shooting mechanics are solid, just like that of the Call of Duty titles, but when you have a game that is multiplayer-only and have nothing else to offer, it can’t really stand on its own two feet. The gameplay has some issues to note. I am not an excellent gamer when it comes to online shooters, but I also don’t suck, because I have played games since I was about 7 years old. No matter what I did, I always seemed to die way more than get kills. Other gamers I know have echoed these sentiments. It could be a combination of gameplay problems and some players just playing religiously and becoming way better than casual players. Also, when you die, the game puts you far away from the action, so you have to continually run towards the battle while simultaneously getting killed over and over. It takes the fun away pretty quickly. The lack of weapons and customization doesn’t help the game’s case either.

    swbf2

What is most troubling about Battlefront is that EA decided to price the game at $60, while also releasing a DLC in December that is also around $60. That is a little ridiculous, especially for what you are getting. To me, that is highway robbery and I see it as EA taking Star Wars fans’ hard-earned money. If you compare this game to the two original Battlefronts on PS2 or even Rogue Squadron for Gamecube, it looks pretty pathetic. That is a sad thing to say because here we are, ten years later, getting half the package we did back then at the same price point. I miss the days when DLC didn’t exist to be honest. All of the content was already there. Nowadays, with the exception of a few companies, DLC is overpriced and released later on. It just doesn’t make sense and it is an obvious cash grab. Let’s look at it in two ways to gain some perspective. For one, take Star Wars out of it. Imagine that everything is the same: Gameplay, visuals, sound design, multiplayer. Then, how would it hold up? For two, ponder the thought of the game being developed by someone else. CD Projekct Red, Remedy, Bethesda…how much better would it have been? As a Star Wars fan, I won’t let EA rob me. I will not buy this game. I may pick it up way later on down the road, pre-owned, when it is in the bargain bin, but that’s it. I had a tough time deciding on a score because that Star Wars fan in me was fighting with the true gamer in me. I think the true gamer won out in the end. I hope I wasn’t too generous.

Starting with the good, the game is simply gorgeous. From sound to graphics to overall atmosphere, it nails everything Star Wars perfectly. The way blasters function are a breath of fresh air to the shooter genre, and really serves to mix things up in very nice ways.

Now that we have the three sentences of good out of the way, here's the bad: there's nothing to keep you playing for more than a few days. I'm an avid Destiny player, and Destiny is notorious for having much less content than it was hyped up for, but at least its gameplay was just varied and exciting enough to keep you crawling back for more, replaying what little story missions there are for an exotic weapon or hidden ghosts to read more about the lore. Battlefront didn't even care to include a story, instead opting for its single player/co-op experience to be a pretty basic horde mode with a set number of waves all set in a single location on one of four planets. It's just so shallow and dull that I really can't find anything to justify paying $60 for it. If this were a free-to-play game and you had to spend real money to buy upgrades and cosmetic effects, I would actually give it a higher score. There's simply nothing to keep you playing unless all you do is competitive multiplayer, in which there are dozens of other much more well-established games out there for you.

All in all, you could just buy one of the old Battlefront games for much cheaper and have a much more satisfying experience. If, however, all you're looking for is a gorgeous series of setpieces to wander in awe (while being shot at) of the sheer beauty of the Star Wars universe, then this game is perfect for you.

However, my friend egged me on to buy it and even gave me some money to supplement the cost of the game. Sadly, even with the little bonus to offset the cost, I feel like this game is not worth the asking price.

Lets start off with the good stuff. It's beautiful. Absolutely gorgeous. The character designs, sound effects, and level design all scream Star Wars. It will be an absolute delight for fans of the franchise to jump into and feel like they're part of the Galactic Civil War. Being able to play as a hero is even better, as you can turn the tide of the battle with the overwhelming power of fan favorites like Luke Skywalker and Darth Vader - though personally, I find Boba Fett and Princess Leia to be even more overpowered.

But that's as high as the game floats above water. The abundant lack of features, no single-player, and ESPECIALLY the additional content hidden behind DLC paywalls are holes that flood this otherwise elaborate looking ship. The positives of the game are barely keeping it afloat, and playthroughs tend to be short and get boring fast.

It's not crap, but it's certainly far from great. For Star Wars fans, this is a relatively easy buy. For gamers, it's easily just as dismissible. Such a shame so much hype and graphical production got put into such a mediocre game.

I am a bit spoiled with all the stuff I've done with my SLI GTX980TI rig, and the modding in games like Skyrim, but I give this game a +2 on graphics out of a possible 3.

Sound: Very close to the Starwars experience. Overall very solid. Again you can tell this team are Star Wars fans. +2

Solo play: Terrible... it's shallow, and not worth doing. You can tell they made this game for Online play only and the Solo-play was an afterthought they had to tick off the checklist. A strong Solo-game is essential to building a game brand. To give a person a haven to go and enjoy a deep story that Muli-player just cannot do. Score here -3

Multiplayer: It's pretty good. Fun but shallow. There isn't enough content to drive me to want to play this game over other titles once the novelty wears off. Score +1

Game Content: REALLY pathetic. You can tell they made a full game. Took a bunch of the content per EA's request and held it back to sell to gamers later. It's blatantly obvious.... It's like getting spat in the face by EA.... They are thinking "Star Wars fans will pay anything we want them to.... lets charge them a **** The game really falls short here. Score -3

Seasons Pass: Again EA is a greedy son of a #$!@ here... $50 for content that is already made, more than likely, that they are withholding because they think Star Wars fans will easily part with their money with the upcoming movie hype. This is LOW... marketing killing a game exemplified. I have to give this a -4... This is cause enough for me to not buy any DLC and to put this game on the shelf and trade it in, while it's value is high, for another game.

This Takes me to my overall score. Starting with 10+2+2-3+1-3-4 = a Score of 5/10

I think a 5/10 is proper for this game, as the corporate greed aspect and lack of attention to solo-play really justifies a score between 4 and 5... I was generous with giving it a 5.

However, what pieces there were from the old series that made the games so beloved were removed. The lack of a legitimate campaign mode is a big one as Star Wars: Battlefront II was on the verge of something with the story on the 501st. The beloved Galactic Conquest modes fails to make an appearance which is a big head scratcher. Finally, with no space battles or prequel era battles, this game leaves much to be desired and feels more like Battlefield than Star Wars Battlefront. While it was important for EA to make a unique reboot game, they did so too much and it feels they just made a game to cash in on the hype surrounding the new movie instead of legitimately trying to make a good game.

Guns feel like they have little variation and all have zero recoil. Maps are nice looking but don't have anything to make them memorable. Gun-play is pay to win because if you paid for the Special edition you unlock a one hit kill weapon that means players with very little skill can easily beat decent players with luck. Leading to frustrating situations.

Sound is great, graphics are great but there is little content, only a few game modes and a handful of maps mean you will feel ripped off paying full price for this game. Maybe get the full version in a year when it's cheaper, been patched and all map packs are out. Until then I wouldn't really waste paying 60.00 on this game.

The heroes are plenty fun to play as. Luke, Vader, Han, Boba, Lea & The Emperor all play differently and you can succeed with any of them during the field of battle.

    Cons:

Basically everything else. The game feels so unfinished, especially in comparison to the other Battlefronts. Where is the single-player campaign? Where is Galactic Conquest? Where is Space Battles in a freaking Star Wars game? Where are the prequel units? Why is Star Wars Episode VII not getting represented at all?

Where the hell is the rest of the game?

You have so few modes that you will quickly grow bored and just play online, which doesn't help much, if at all, due to extreme balance issues between sides (Rebels dominate Air Combat, Empire dominate Ground Combat) and the horrendous spawning system. The air flight controls are awkward to use and the overall flight feeling just doesn't feel natural and the vehicles are far less important here, which is a shame because they used to be such fun in the other Battlefront games.

Most of the other modes are barely worth mentioning due to their balance issues (Walker Assault) or just dumb design choices (Hero Hunt) and them having only 4 maps is not helping their case either.

And the less i say about EA's $50 Dollar DLC Season Pass, the better.

Every novelty about the game will soon wear off due to it's incredible lack of replay ability due to the loss of a campaign mode and worthwhile offline modes and the online mode won't suffice either due to the severe lack of maps and the horrible balancing issues.

This one of the most disappointing games released in this generation of consoles and probably of all time. Thanks a lot, Electronic Arts. You have just ruined yet another treasured franchise.

This means that the game sounds and looks great. The maps look great. It's just that the gameplay doesn't get much more complicated than aiming and managing heat. I haven't been able to drive a vehicle yet, but in the X Wing you don't even have to aim. Targetting computers lock on and achieve perfect accuracy.

For me this is just barely worth $60. I'll probably play it a couple of weeks and get bored. Once all the DLC is on sale for like $20 I'll get that too.

To sell a game with so little content and then expect players to pay another 50 dollars to get what the game should have had to begin with is EXACTLY what is wrong with the game industry. 110 dollars for a full game is outrageous. So, it looks great and plays well. And if you're a Star Wars fan then you're definitely going to feel A LOT of nostalgia. Go buy it if Star Wars means more to you than your wife and kids or if you've got some money to blow. Like everyone else, I was excited for a star wars battlefront game. I couldn't help but reminisce about the old times playing galactic conquest on PS2 with my friends for hours. Though I was skeptical about DICE's reboot, deep down I couldn't wait for the release date.

First off I will talk about the positives this game has to bring to the table.
    1. This game is absolutely incredible to look at. The visuals are simply breath taking and at times you can't help but just sit back and look at how incredible everything looks.

    2. The game is incredibly casual and easy to pick up and play. It is understandable why DICE made this game so simple and casual, they need to appeal to as many people as possible. That being said, if you're someone who doesn't have a lot of time to dedicate to playing a game, then this is great for you, because this game requires virtually zero skill to play. Simply put, the game is incredibly simple to play, you'll dominate if you're a Battlefield Veteran like I am.

    3. Last one for the positives. When it really comes down to what is important, the game is fun to play. I've definitely had fun running around on Hoth gunning down rebels as an AT-ST, I have to admit.

Here comes the main reasons why I only gave this game a 5. Most people would consider a 5 to be a pretty bad score (or at least I do) and this is why I consider Star Wars Battlefront to be a pretty bad game.

    1. The game is INCREDIBLY casual. I know I listed that as a positive, but it's also a negative and this is why. The game gets boring and repetitive incredibly fast! There is very little variety in this game and it is very apparent that DICE was (once again) rushed to release this game. It seems that there are about 4 maps in the entire game and things get very repetitive. There are no classes in this game and your "load out" will be pretty much the same every single game since you will inevitably gravitate towards one load out that works best for you. This, for me, is very disappointing since I loved how the original Battlefront was balanced with the different classes, this game has none of that which, for lack of better words, sucks.

    2. The game has no story mode. This is a big one that people are very disappointed about. I know this one has been mentioned constantly, that's why I'm not going to talk about it.

    3. This game gets boring faster than watching paint dry. If I'm being completely honest, this game doesn't have much when it comes to replay value. There are 2 or 3 game modes that are fun to play, other than those the game simply won't keep you coming back for more. You will inevitably get bored after about a half hour and will stop playing. That's what happens to me every time I play.

Simply put, I have no doubts that anybody that plays this game will have fun for the first couple hours that they play it, but other than that I wouldn't say that it will keep you playing for the next year. Wait for a price drop and buy it, don't pay 60 dollars for a game that has 30 dollars worth of enjoyment with it. After the aw over the visuals wears off, you will be done with the game.

This game proves graphics isn't all in a game and how far the dlc abuse has been taken.
Of course, it's not a bad game, and it's graphically amazing, but the BIG lack of content doesn't help.

It focuses on rebels trying to bring down walkers and the empire defending them. Player customization is a nice way to keep the game fresh, you can choose your blaster and 3 "Star Cards" that can give you things like a jet pack or sniper rifle but then extremely cheap things like a homing missile that can become frustrating. I do wish they added more Star Cards, some feel totally useless and don't add much to the game. Customization for your character is extremely overpriced,Minimule and only unlocked once you have experienced most of the game. It's awesome hearing your blaster going Pew Pew but I do wish they explained upon them more, after awhile you just use the same gun. Battlefront also has a co-op game-mode where you and 1 friend can work through waves of enimes in the most original idea for a game since Candy Crush.
Battlefront is extremely fun in small bursts and captures the Star Wars universe very well but I feel like there was lots of wasted potential here. It could have been so much more of a game and if you compare this to the Canceled Battlefront 3 or even 2 (for the PS2)it feels like a lot is missing. My issues with the game

    No Galactic Conquest
    No Space Battles
    No meaningful Single Player mode
"Supremacy" mode is more of a tug-of-war, whereas the old battlefronts you could take any command post on the map and it was more tactical and enjoyable.
Heroes are massively OP - and there aren't enough of them.
Nerf the heroes and allow 2-3 per side at a time.

    However
Walker Assault and Turning Point are good 20v20 modes.
Turning point can only be played on one map, so that sucks.
There are now 10 different game types, so you have diversity in what you can play.
I enjoy Cargo, Blast and Drop Pod modes.
I hate Droid Run, Heroes vs Villains and Hero Hunt - but to each its own.

Dice sent a patch update in early-mid December that balanced the gameplay nicely, but it did nerf some items.

If this was a full game, I would have gladly given it a 9 or 10 - the mechanics are that good, but with all of the missing content and "Season Pass" (pay-wall). It deserves a 5. - Too bad because it was a great franchise.

The graphics are top notch, for once I feel like I'm actually inside a Star Wars film, the maps are practically replicas of the sets from the original films. Content wise, this is where most seem to be disappointed, it is definitely lacking as of launch. From a consumers stand point, this is unacceptable, from the Devs standpoint, they were pushed to release this before the new film releases so most of the time was put to authenticity. Dice promise lots of free support on top of the atrociously priced DLC season pass, which starts in early Decemeber. The modes are mostly fun but are typical shooter fare, minus one called Hero Hunt which is all based on cheap tactics and luck to win, but the true catch here are the two larger scale modes. These are Walker Assault and Supremacy. Walker Assault pits Rebels against Imperials with heavy artillery within a time limit to destroy all Imperial AT-AT's or have their base destroyed resulting in loss. Supremacy is very much Battlefields classic conquest mode with a catch, instead of losing respawn tickets both teams are fighting over capturing all the control points, being whoever has them all by the end or who has the most wins. Overall I see this as a very niche game, it will appeal mostly to Star Wars fans and casual shooter players like myself (I tend to pop in an online shooter for maybe a couple hours once or twice a week). This game most likely won't appeal to the COD or Halo fan, even Battlefield fans and this is a game developed by DICE, all because it lacks depth or realism. The game is very arcadey and doesn't hold hundered of levels worth of in game unlocks as of launch. This is a game you pick up and play every once in awhile, it is not the kind of game you'll throw 100's hours online into a game like in Battlefield. But with DICE's promise of free post launch update content I have hope for this game to become something much better. As of now I can't go higher than a 6/10, although I'm enjoying the game I can't justify the lack of content at launch for $60. Maybe in a few months it will be worth it. But in my opinion the season pass fiasco has gotten out of hand. No games post launch content should double the price of a game and I am boycotting EA by not purchasing any of the DLC just as I did with BF3 and BF4. Expand

Really wanted to provide some objective criticism for this game so I waited until now to write out some thoughts.

Graphics/sound: Overall the game looks and sounds amazing, but this is not Telltale so it really matters very little to me personally, I want mechanics and well designed gameplay over graphics. I won't say anymore more about that.

Gameplay: Simplistic to the core, in multiplayer players are already resorting to dashing back and forth while blasting away to add some semblance of strategy. You can't even go prone in this game. There's very little progression, the final three blaster unlocks represent a nice ranged single shot, a ranged burst, and a short-mid range blaster. That's all you need, seriously. It's literally rock-paper-scissors with some reaction time. The progression is abysmal even compared to a game like Call of Duty, and if you stood this game next to Battlefield you may want to shout in anger. (I am back on BF4 as a form of therapy). I could go on and on about how incredibly lackluster the gameplay is, but lets end with one more final analogy. I now play this game when I am mentally exhausted from Fallout 4 or The Witcher or BF4. This is the game I play while better games a patching. This is the game I play when I feel like self-loathing. If Fallout 4 is a carefully crafted saison farmhouse ale, Battlefront is a pack of Ole' Milwaukee.

Balance: So laughably lopsided, you can see the ridiculous lack of competitive spirit this game evokes by just glancing at the stats. Games with players going 80-3? As discussed, this game has the depth level of rock-paper-scissors but there's also A-wing. Someone can literally just sit in an A-wing the entire game and be uncontested, the mechanics are that sceued. Most Walker Assaults never see half-way through mid-phase now. Lobbies never rebalance and there is no way to swap teams. So if you lose heavily or win heavily, guess what? You get the exact same scenario unless you leave the lobby and come back. Why even have lobbies? The lobby system also seems perfect for creating stacked teams. Consider that since there's never any rebalancing, a solid team is likely to stick together. A few plays leave, more join slowly, eventually that team becomes incredibly powerful.

There's also a constant scenario where an opposing team can force an entire team into a building and merely camp entrances. There's no way to maneuver out of this. In other games there's squad spawns and safe zones and tactical inserts, not here. The most strategic thing one can do in these games is leave.

All you need to do to conceptualize this game's failings is to remove all Star Wars elements and consider what a lackluster shooter garbage FPS this would amount to....in 2007...Jesus EA, what year is it? Lobbies that don't rebalance? Spawn camping killzones?

I guess EA developers represent the worst part of ancient FPS games and this game is their utopia...

if you don't want to play with people (online) you have 4 battlegrounds. Only training lets you fly an x-wing.
    It's VERY devoid of content.
I have no intention of going online so I feel like I wasted my $60
Gameplay is great, but there is just so little to do.

Personal as a long time Battlefront player I have some serious issues with this game:

First of all why do the bad guys have green lasers? I would assume that the good guys would have those lasers, it makes for really confusing gameplay in situations. My biggest frustration is that Jar Jar Binks is NOT I REPEAT NOT a playable character. I think its pretty clear who the most important character in the whole Star Wars franchise really is, and they couldn't acknowledge it .

This game is leagues behind Call of Duty: Ghosts.

    The vehicles control like crap

The power ups are spread across the map like Mario Kart

There is no single player at all

    No campaign, co-op or otherwise

The heroes are clanky and crappy, they make no sense

There are only 4 planets, so the "16 maps" is a big fat lie, because so many of the maps feel the same

The screen is constantly CONSTANTLY shaking from the explosions and crap

The gameplay is subpar and completely and utterly imbalanced, with a homing rocket launcher round with infinite ammo once every 18 seconds and grenade spam EVERYWHERE.

The ONLY thing this game has going for it is its pretty to look at and sounds great. Thats literally it.

The beta was so promising... I was desperately hoping that the full game would be as fun and exciting, but sadly, it's not. Only having a small number of maps makes it stale very quickly.
Putting it as simply as possible, this is not a complete game. Just because game companies repeatedly ship half finished games so they can slog us more for the other half doesn't make it okay.

    Cons:

    1. There is no story mode, so that limits your experience. The solo or co-op missions are severely lacking. It’s just do the same thing 15 times. No, seriously, that’s it. Really!

    2. Controls are pretty unintuitive. They don't really let you map controls, just a choice of 2 in each option. Oddly placed the worst option as default. But that’s just my opinion. It may work for others… Maybe?

    3. This one really pissed me off, but the flying portion. It's less than half-assed. As an avid air combat game fan, this was piss poor on its best day.
    • The user doesn't really have full control (i.e steering). A pilot needs actual flight controls to, oh I don't know.... roll? : p

    • The radar is useless as it only shows a blue or red ball for a transport ship. Heaven forbid it shows something useful like the other craft around me, or the missile that was fired at me.

    • There is absolutely no real felling of speed and handling is pretty bad. No matter if at max speed or slowest speed, looks and feels like your going the same with the exception of your ship is closer or farther from the screen. Turning isn't tighter depending on your speed either, it's as if there is no G force. Which would have been forgivable, if you were in space! but all battles are on a planet! (Facepalm)

    • Controls could have been thought out far better, or let the user decide the button layout, as it was apparent they didn't know what the right way would be.

    • Default maneuvers are so useless that I wish they would have abandoned them and focused more on letting users use their own. Though it makes sense these were added with the existence of the other points. (i.e. Flight controls, radar, speed and maneuverability)

    • I could go on for hours on the implied lack of research or willingness to put in the work to this portion of the game. It's almost as if it was something they tagged on because they realized they hadn't put in enough.

    4. Speeder bike is a little difficult. Not a complaint, it’s challenging, which is good (albeit frustrating at times). Though there are a few spots the you blow up and you really shouldn’t as there’s not really anything there. At least that I could see.

    5. Online FPS has a problem in that you are frequently either spawned in the middle of a firefight, depending on the map. I typically found this to be true on Hoth (supremacy). Spawning to only last 2 seconds before a AT-ST standing 20 feet away blows you to hell, gets annoying. Now, other modes seem to have campers, which speaks more to possible lack of foresight to put in the code to not spawn at spot X if opponent present.

    6. Matching is pretty poor. If there is a team that is consistency plowing the other, the users should be swapped around to provide a more potentially enjoyable user experience. This is pretty standard these days, so I’ll assume that this is just a bug and not an oversight.

    7. Extremely limited in locations. For the time and effort put in to this game, I would have expected a fair bit more. Then again, I assume that this is where the money grab comes in with expansions. Surprise!!!

    8. Jumping… I mean there are so many places that you should be able to jump to, but can’t It’s pretty much an inch too high for you, so you can’t do it without a jetpack. I mean, you can just keep trying to jump while others laugh at and shoot you. That works too.

    Pros:

    1. Looks AMAZING! Yup, gonna say it again. Have to give them credit for that.

    2. As far as FPS online gameplay goes, it’s not bad. You get the feeling you are in SW for sure

    3. Supremacy mode is an awesome idea and for the most part, enjoyable

    Overall:

If you are a user that is looking to pick up a game that you’re going to play every now and again, you'll likely be disappointed / frustrated. If you're a gamer that'll spend 3-5hrs a day playing this, then you’re likely going to get over the controls and issues and just play the multiplayer only. Solo will bore you to the point you will ask why is this here? It’s more like a training / tutorial than gameplay.

Don't know what the diorama portion is for, but I’m not exactly enthralled with finding out. But hey, maybe it’s your thing. ;)

Overall I give this a 5 as I was extremely excited about this game. I bought the Ultimate-Supreme-Mega-Super-Omega version for the extras and season pass crap. Yeah, I thought it was going to be that good. Heh! Shows you there’s a sucker born every minute huh? They could still make this the game that us Star Wars fans were wanting and expecting (their advertising and releases set said expectations so I can’t take 100% responsibility for mismanaged expectations), but this means a lot of patches and bug fixes.

I certainly hope they do it, because I wasn’t so bad to like this game and play it as often as I had anticipate but this is up to them. Let’s see if they listen.

One thing that's a nit pick but really annoyed me was how terrible the voice acting is for Darth Vader, honestly, I could do a better job. I first played through some of the solo missions, they were fun, but quickly got repetitive. I then decided to go through some of the training missions, basically code name for tutorials. The tutorials were okay, but the last one where you had to wrap an AT-AT with a cable like in Episode 5 was horrible. I didn't understand what it wanted me to do at all. I ended up just quitting it. So first of all in game design you're supposed to teach players how to play the game by putting the tutorials in the gameplay, in a way so that the player doesn't notice it's even there, not in a separate mode. Then one of the tutorials even failed to teach me how to do a key strategy for taking down a walker. I don't have PSN, so I couldn't play the multiplayer, just an FYI I find it completely stupid that I have to pay $50 to play the other half of the game my brother got me for I presume about the same amount. I did play some of the multiplayer during the beta though, and like other reviews, it's fun for a little while, but then it just gets repetitive and stale. I'll be playing this game every now and then with some friends, since thank God it does have local multiplayer. I look forward to having fun experiences playing this with friends. But if you just play it by yourself I'd either not buy it or way till it's a lot cheaper. Expand

3rd Con.: The lack of maps. There are currently 5 (?) maps in this game which means you will play the same map more than once in a short time.
4th Con.: No story. I played SW:B I & SW:B II both on PlayStation2 and I really enjoyed the campaign and the different maps.
5th. Con.: Overpowered Heroes/Villains. I'm not saying, that every hero in this game is OP, but Boba Fett and Han Solo surely are.
As Solo, you have the ability that makes you kill another hero in 2 shots and as Boba you can just wait for your rocket to recharge and get insane killstreaks (I got a 46-0 on Hoth playing as Boba the whole match).

But this is only the paint job that hides a very shallow FPS: 1. All Weapons feel like they do the same amount of damage, even with the automatic blasters they feel more accurate than what the stats has you believe. Even Han Solo's blaster is the best weapon unlocked at the last stage of the game, and it's the most overpowered weapon in the game, with stats that remind me of the FAMAS from Black Ops 1. 2. Vehicles are few in number and are sometimes useless, ships are useless on some maps, and you could do more kamikazes in these ships than actually trying to shoot enemies. 3. Most of the cards are overlooked in favor for only a few cards such as the jump pack and grenades. 4. Heroes and Villains are way too overpowered, and unlike the last two games, there is no limit for how long you can play them, so until death you can go on crazy kill streaks and there is no satisfaction of earning these pick ups, unless you happen to be the last person that hit them and collect the hero drop. 5. There is only a few modes that are fun like Walker Assault and Supremacy. The rest are generic and not worth your time if you're a fan of Battlefront like I am. 6. No story mode, but plenty of disappointing cut scenes in survival that reminds me of what the story could've been. 7. Customization is shallow and a huge disappointment. 8. And the final nail in this coffin of a game is the price severely out-weighs the benefits, making it a much better rental than an awesome purchase. Right look EA we all know you can make a game look pretty and we known you can make a shooter. Care to ever expand upon these very basic and widely known things.
Star Wars Battlefront has few flaws but like with so many other titles out there refuses to exceed beyond the very basic traceable template you've made. This 'reboot' does nothing but repeat the exact same mechanics and properties of, surprise surprise, a Battlefield game. Actually now that I mention it this game has more in common with COD (activision) then a Battlefield game. It's repetitive and gets boring fast.
Look here EA if you're going to buy your way into a big franchise like Star Wars and say you're going to reboot a beloved video game franchise... well then bloody try. The closest this game gets to Battlefront material is by looking and sounding like Star Wars. That's about it. EA have accomplished what thousands of indie developers starting out with a game engine for the first time could have done. For that I am truly disappointed.
For the people that find enjoyment out of this game: good for you I'm glad. I don't find it hard to believe that someone can love this game but for the facts which they are using to defend this game are appalling. "This game is meant for MP players", "You need to level up more in order to gain enjoyment out of this game" well then excuse me and thousands of other people who assumed that the game would follow in its predecessors footsteps by including a legit single player campaign, some form of big scale single player battle mode and an easy and fun leveling up system. The joy of the previous Battlefront games were from the fact that everyone was equal with the same equipment so everyone stood a chance. Now I spawn next to someone who is above level 20 and I haven't made it passed 5 because I keep getting killed. Everything I wanted in this game that was in the others were torn out and replaced by nice graphics. Yesterday I played Tales of Zestrilia and that game proves that you don't need to have fancy graphics to make a game enjoyable. Hell the predecessors are still fun now with early stage PS2 graphics.
Final words: 10/10 people- get out of your pit of denial and look at this game compared to a) it's predecessors b) any other game. It is massively disappointing and will never, not matter how much free DLC they throw in my face, will progress passed 5/10. Developers- delete that stupid template you have and think of something new that doesn't involve a rinse and repeat formula. The free DLC is a step in the right direction but it's a small one. Focus on your games first then move passed that.

Battlefronts greatest thrills all occur within a few hours of playing. Once you get over the initial 'I'm in Star Wars' little things begin to pick apart at your overall enjoyment of the game. While it does look stunning and 'like the movies', having a server full (Gods willing) of helmet less, jet packing, pistol shooters does damage this image. Furthermore, who really cares if it looks like the movies, I'd rather take the characters and soldiers and take them to new and exciting battlefronts (pun intended). Much time was wasted to recreate scenes from the movie, which are picturesque but ultimately limited the maps available. As of current, the amount of content does not justify a $60 (US) price tag. While many players seem to enjoy it, unfortunately it does not have the enjoyment or depth of the previous Battlefronts and is unfit to claim to be its successor. It shares very little in common with it and really seems like a pathetic rip-off. I think I might just skip Battlefront 4 & 5 and get into Battlefront 6 to save myself some heartache. Just as people argue that Return of the Jedi is the worst in the trilogy, the Battlefront EA will suffer the fate.

The current content is bland and uninspired, despite the rich design of predecessors. While it has its pros, the cons stick out glaringly as amateur mistakes considering DICE's pedigree. The reason it is so hated is purely because it lacks content, depth and had so much potential. The inclusion of emotes is a waste of animation time that could have been spent on campaign mode or something to occupy the interns, either way a waste of players controller space. The cancelled Battlefront had space battles and land battles that connected and was exactly what people wanted and had asked for numerous times. I feel that the current backlash is from a community that has lost patience over a long period of time. Battlefront 2 had both Clone Wars and Galactic Wars; also Space and Land battles. Battlefront 3 has Galactic war land battles. In ten to fifteen years time, I would expect Battlefront 7 to finally have space and land battles across all three trilogies.

With the new film of the space opera saga finally on the big screen and the release of Battlefront's new sequel, both after a decade overdue, it is definitely the best time to be a Star Wars fan. The game itself is a dream-come-true for fans, and the Star Wars spectacle is strong in this one. However, if it is depth and longevity you seek... this is not the game you are looking for.
