This game is a waste of money. Do not buy it. If you do, you will realize that you may be able to travel to an infinite (practically) number of planets, and be bored on all of them.

The choice of direction in this game is exactly what Sean Murray and Hello Games has talked about from the beginning. It has been many hours of fun exploration, cataloging and lore learning from the get go.

    THE GOODS:
    - The ability to explore space without feeling claustrophobic
    - The plethora of land air and sea creatures YOU get to name and tag
    - The deep stories that are embedded in the game and its seemingly hidden agenda
    - The beautiful Colors and array of lands
    - The fact that you HAVE to learn to survive and learn how to use everything without a cheat sheet or guide.
    - The cool ability to write your own story in the universe that will be uniquely yours and your choice.

    THE BADS:
    - HUMAN EXPECTATION: We as people when given the opportunity to think for ourselves create our own fillers. so As this game leaves open from the beginning a universe with practically infinite options, our minds, before playing the game, have already created creatures, worlds, and adventures in our minds. This causes a dilemma as Hello games and Sean Murray have NO ability to read everyone's minds. They had a specific goal with the universe and implemented aspects to generate it. So if a persons creative ideas do not show up in this sandbox of a universe, they will immediately hate everything about it, which is not fair justification for saying its a bad game.
    - BIG BUSINESS: Unfortunately being in marketing I see and know if you have money, you can make anyone disappear. This is common in media outlets like movies, books and game reviews. Maybe I'm a conspiracy theorist but I think the fact that Hello Games has created something beyond a scope of imagination and only with a small team put them under a bulls-eye for larger companies to take hits on them. and just like in courts, if your adversary has more money than you and can hire more and better lawyers.. you're screwed. I would like to think better of big business but it be better to Hope Hello Games makes it through this attack.

    OTHER RANDOM NOTES AND THOUGHTS
I had NO expectation of this being a common multiplayer type game like all those other MMO games out there. I expected it to be one of my challenges to meet another player some day in this universe. yes supposedly two player were on the same planet and were not seeing each other... From the video I saw of it doesn't look clear enough to me that they were in the same place at the same "time" key factor.

The Game takes you on a virtual exploration of a universe as big as our own with practically infinite procedural outcomes for flora and fauna, layouts of land and sea, and an open universe to create your own story as you travel. A great thing about this game is its ability to allow you Free will to choose what you want to do. If you do not like the ability to make your own choices and want to have someone tell you where to go every step of the way this game is not for you.

I continue to find new wonders, and new intrigue in the alien factions and monoliths, an stories behind them all; all hinting at something bigger to the game then just what we see. I appreciate a challenge in games like this; one that tests your durability to daunting tasks (which every game has), one that tests your appreciation for HOW the games creates everything you are exploring, one that test your skills at chilling out and enjoying what's around you.

From the two years I spent following news on this game and the development of it. This game is not jsut meant for us but meant as a way Sean Murray has been able to create a childhood dream of his with a small team. And for me anyone who gets to experience their dreams in reality is VERY awesome. Not many of us have that chance and not many can make something as enormous as this happen with such a small team.

Overall I will say this is a Niche game market style game. It is a game that EVERYONE should play and learn to play simple for the wonderful meditative therapy of slowing down and seeing what is around you. This part of human life has slowly been disappearing right before our eyes and no one even knows.

Initially I loved this game. The first few hours are exciting and overwhelming. You love every second of the first few hours. But then you realize that you will do the same three things for the rest of the game, so probably for 50 - 100 hrs: Gather minerals, recharge your equipment, fly to the next planet that is shockingly similar to the planet you just visited. The lack of variety is ridiculous given the fact that everything is based on procedural generation. Most of the planets are lifeless pieces of rock. Maybe this is something that you can live with because sometimes there are these "wow" moments, when you finally find a planet with a lot of flora and fauna.
Based on these impressions I could rate this 5/10 being an average space exploration game for casual players. BUT: The game was announced with misleading information. This is a fraud. This is criminal activity. There are so many features missing from the game that were originally promised. The whole experience is based on lies that came directly from the developers. I understand that one or two features might be missing from a game when it launches, because time was short, but this game is basically missing everything that was promised. The only feature it delivers is the repetitive mining. That's it. You even get bored by exploration. Also you don't have any motivation anymore to find other players because you WON'T SEE THEM. As a fact the developers said that you will be able to see other players. Not even 24 hours later this was already proven false. Two players stood at the exact same spot and were NOT able to see each other. I will now try to get my money back from Gamestop. This is the biggest disappointment since I started my gaming career in 1992.

Rebel Galaxy, which was a FREE game for Playstation Plus User for the month of August, is better than this $60 stinky pile of Dookie. All of the hype was blown out of proportion, and HelloGames and Sean Murray lied about their product. Lesson learned. Let someone else pre-order the game and complain about it before I waste my own money.

There's still things I haven't done. Perhaps the best way to explain it is this quote by Sean Murray: "What we did set out to do, for just one moment you play the game, you land on a planet and you feel embedded there, that this is a real place. It's something you've discovered for yourself and you have a moment of wonder, and for me that is unique to games that we can do that and I think totally justifies the game." As soon as you get enough materials to fix your star ship, you can finally leave the planet you started on. Don't get me wrong, the first hour of playing this is pure awesomeness. But then it hits you like a bus with rocket thrusters, all that wonder and excitement you had for the game will be gone very soon. Now the game becomes a repetitive romp through an almost empty universe, full of terrible, derpy creatures, glitches, and constantly having to refuel your mining laser thing and life support. At the point where i had to get the materials to build a warp drive or whatever, I found myself going from planet to planet trying to find one goddamn material, that none of the planets near me had, yet it was essential to have this part on my ship. Past this point I really just gave up on the game. I haven't played it since the day it game out. Also, the amount of promises Hello Games made, that were all but abandoned, is disappointing, and if anything has ruined there career in game production. All in all, if you want to play this game, don't spend 59.99 on it, don't even spend 29.99 on it! If you really really want to experience the repetitive nature of No Man's Sky, wait and buy it when it is under 20 dollars. I'm enjoying No Man's Sky.

If like me you're interested in the journey and you're not needing your shootyman's twitch-reflex CoD-tested 24/7 then the chances are you'll find something to like in No Man's Sky. Even if you dive into the space battles with a serious upgraded ship.

The only thing you do is to go to a planet, get resources to go to another planets where you find more resources to find more planets and in the end, to find the centre of the universe, which is just another planet. That said, as someone who has followed a development of the game for a long time, it is frustrating to see a lack of some of the features that were trailed in the build up. YET. The bug fixes are done, and I'm hoping to see some of them be added over the next few updates.

At time of writing Devs are already on patch 1.07 and I can only see the game improving as it gets more refined and polished. They have already significantly stabilized and balanced the game where required. Then there are the new features which I hope will be added in time. A lot to look forward to.

I bought my PS4 in anticipation of this game, while waiting for its release I have enjoyed a couple of other titles, this has not disappointed me one bit. I had realistic expectations and grew up playing some rather innovative, if sometimes crashy and glitchy old 8 & 16-bit games. This game dares to be different where other games look good but feel rather generic. Well done I say.

Sony refused within the first two days a refund providing no reason and by unreasonably delaying ticket responses they eventually called me "uncooperative" as I did not want to troubleshoot and continued to overlook my basic consumer right for a refund of a broken game.

I am now in the process of requesting a chargeback and Sony has explained that this will result in my 10 year PSN account being banned - http://www.naschenweng.info/2016/08/28/requesting-refund-mans-sky-psn-account-banned/

HelloGames is a shill for providing a broken game and over-promising features. Sony Europe has shown no interest in issuing a refund despite SCEA issuing refunds two weeks after the game launched.

If the game had launched as a "true indy" game at a USD20 price tag, it's quality issues can easily be overlooked.

As far as I can tell, this game doesn't incorporate this mechanic, and it's such a basic part of amusement - from slot machines to Pokemon- it breaks a cardinal rule. The second piece of science missing is that some basic physics like orbits (day/night cycles) seem to be missing. Besides just incorporating a randomizing element, how hard would it be to make the result follow some basic laws of physics? While I’m sure developer Hello Games is still tweaking things and perhaps even creating more content for No Man’s Sky, the current state of affairs is a strong one. This galactic opus still offers an infinite amount of content for those who want to lose themselves among the stars, but now also contains a concrete throughline that will satisfy a wider array of players. It can be irritating at times, but it’s also full of stunning moments and the satisfaction of building a virtual life among the stars. Four years after launch, it’s finally a journey worth taking.

The world of No Man's Sky is insanely vast and beautiful, but there’s nothing to do in it! There’s no goal, no destination, no ending, nothing!

While No Man's Sky is engrossing for the first few hours, repetition starts to set in and the proceedings grow dull. The developers stated that they plan to add significant features such as base building which could dramatically change the game for the better. There's a promising foundation present, so it's possible to envision a more substantial game down the line. As it currently stands, though, our excitement to cross the universe faded sooner than we expected.
