I finally completed it and it's not too bad game but it's far from great. It was fun to play, story was not bad but there are very repetitive things that make game less enjoyable.

One of the most overhated game I've ever played. I heard a lot about bugs and animations around the premiere, but in my opinion, that game is still very good. That game has a good story, characters, locations, side quests, and more. It's one of the few games I finished two times, and I had a lot of fun doing that.

Is it the weakest in the series? Yes. Is it a letdown after 5 years of waiting? Yea kinda. Is it still a good game though? Debatable but I think so. Graphics are still good, and BioWare fixed a lot of the bugs (and faces) that were plaguing this game at launch. Plus the combat is the best in the series HANDS DOWN. I think it’s worth a playthrough.

When I played the game, the glitches were gone, so I will disregard them. The story is mediocre, and the characters are not as likeable as the characters from the trilogy. The gameplay was enjoyable. I liked the return of the multiplayer. Overall a good game that doesn’t live up to its predecessors.

This game is not a masterpiece (or even close) but I enjoyed playing it. I played a bit of it on PC and it was a miserable experience, but playing it on PS4 a few years ago was fun. I didn’t experience any technical issues on PS4, but PC was an entirely different story. The frostbite engine kinda sucks (brave statements only on this

The game is not bad. It has fun gameplay, different builds and approaches, the characters are fine and it does have bugs, but now its not even noticeable. Its not the friend simulator that the first 3 were, but the gunplay is way more fun.

Mass Effect Andromeda was simply "OK". Doesn't live up to the high bar set by the original trilogy but is decent on its own. The story is groan-worthy and cliche and the characters and settings are pale imitations of the originals (Liam/Jacob; Vetra/Garrus; Cora/Ashley; Drack/Wrex; Peebee/Liara; Jaal/Javik; Remnant/Promethians; Kett/Reapers; Kadara/Omega; etc.). Though, honestly - and this will be sacrilegious to some Mass Effect fans - I found I liked Peebee more than I liked Liara from the original trilogy, but that's just me.

The BIGGEST issue with this game is that the Frostbite engine repeatedly chokes. It's as if they handed the engine to a team that had little to no experience developing for it. Constant frame rate drops, horrendous texture pop in, AI and model spawn-in broken repeatedly, textures not appearing, laughably bad character animations, constant sound effect and voice file bugs (constantly clipping or cutting out entirely), and so on. Some of these issues can be game-breaking, forcing a console restart or the need to reload a prior save. The issues are really glaring when you go over to a different game that manages a solid 30 or 60 FPS then come back to Andromeda. Oh and there is a level of laziness I feel should be noted: Almost every non-ringed gas giant throughout Andromeda is a copy/paste of a stock photograph of our very own Jupiter, only with various gray, sepia, and brown filters over them. They didn't even try to change the gas bands or even the location of the red spot storm.

After having played newer space shooters like Destiny (which, despite its problems, is a fluid and very graphically pretty game) and recent open world games like Horizon Zero Dawn, I can't help but feel that Mass Effect Andromeda is a relic from a different time. To be brutally honest the planets in ME:A were as graphically janky as the planets in No Man's Sky and often only slightly less barren. Which is sad because we've seen what the Frostbite engine is capable of. If you're a Mass Effect fan like I am, it's probably worth a rental. But I'm struggling to justify my purchase because, unlike the original Trilogy which I played more times than I care to count across three different platforms, I doubt I'll be playing this through a second time. [For anyone wondering, 73:56:02 played, 96% completion; Adept/Vanguard Male Ryder]

Edited extra: One of the complaints many had of the originals was that the romance scenes lacked punch because they didn't have nudity. ME:A embraces its Mature rating and goes with nudity this time around and it feels, well... meh. It's like watching a late night Cinemax softcore 30 minute show with just as much emotion (which is to say none). The romance scenes STILL lack punch as they now feel more like fan service rather than a meaningful plot device.

Throughout one stupid little side mission you are hurled around 3 planets and have to suffer 8-10 loading screens. It's just tiresome and not fun at all. I have to point out that I play it on a PS4 Pro with its standard slow-ass HDD. Maybe on a SSD the loading experience is more bearable.

The only good aspects of the game are combat and some remnant designs (every other stuff is just a generic sci-fi ripoff). Mass Effect Andromeda is a mediocre game that isn't completely broken so it doesn't deserve notes like 3/10. When you compare MAE to Horizon Zero Dawn which was released just a month earlier it is a laughing stock.

By the way, Bioware is a goddamn lazy company. A full month after the release and they only issued one lousy patch? The game is still riddled with glitches, bugs and all sorts of problems. I guess their faces are just goddamn tired...

This game has real issues. Ignore the triggered anti-"SJW" crusaders. It's bad because of bad writing and animations. They've neglected the story to put more into MP and creating more action-based system. This was a bad decision.

-The writing is also comically bad, if people were hating on GITS movie (for a comparison) this is many steps below it. Poor plot

-Overall the game is a 6-7. I would be tempted to drop it lower because of the racist PoS Manveer Heir (King curry Thunder) but really its not fair to anyone else who has worked on this project. That being said it is a high 6 (or low 7). Not bad enough to not buy, but probably wait for a significant discount.

Also my female Ryder looks great at times and then its just awful. So far the story seems relatively interesting although its a bit too much "Kids with guns in space" and I feel the Kett offer nothing new so far. So my thoughts on Andromeda. I think it was hyped far too much, trying too hard to mimic Dragon age Inquisition in terms of marketing. This was clearly a mistake as it was no secret that Andromeda's production suffered allot of issues, with most of the original creative team from the original trilogy either not coming on board or outright leaving during production. So essentially Andromeda was kind of starting from scratch. In all fairness, I think this was a good thing, after all, Andromeda was trying to establish itself as its own story, away from the original trilogy.

Sadly, with a fresh team also means inexperience, not necessarily in ability but with familiarity with the series. It is evident that the writing is very diluted, making it the weakest in the series so far. Clearly they wanted to add allot of dialogue to the game, and they did, but quantity is not better than quality. It seems to me that either the writing team was too small, or was rushed (likely, given EA's history.)

But, it does have some truely great moments and the writing does improve the deeper into the game you get. A shame that the game doesn't give a good first impression in that regard. It is clear that so much more is on the way as there are plenty clues and open plot points, but the game really could have used some more strong foreshadowing. It does foreshadow a bit, but too subtly.

Visuals are ....? Character models and up close animations are really sub par for this generation. There is no excuse since the Witcher 3 clearly showed this can be done better. But it's not always bad, it seems the human models were the ones primarily affected. The Krogan, Angara, Salarians and Turians did all work pretty well in that regard. Now the environments on all worlds were gorgeous. Each world utterly beautiful and its own. However, I never did manage to get my brightness setting right. It was either too dark, or too bright.

As for the main cast, I do feel they are underdeveloped. Drax and Jaal are pretty flushed out, Peebee is a bit annoying and bland at first, but does have some great banter and does get more interesting. Liam seems bland at first glance but is rather funny, just a shame he isn't developed more. Cora is boring and generic, essentially tje Jacob of this game. Vetra feels kind of out of place most of the time, perhaps feeling too much like she's trying to fill the shoes Garrus left but just feels like token character. Ultimately the team feels small and underdeveloped. Would be good to add a DLC character or two.

As for gameplay. It feels allot like the best parts of ME 1 mixed in with the best parts of ME 2 + 3. The Nomad is great improvement on the Mako. Curious that there aren't weapon upgrades for it. General combat is great and the ability mix and match abilities is great. Combat in gener is fun. Just a shame there isn't more variety in enemy types.

    Overall:
Mass Effect Andromeda has allot of flaws, and has allot of bumps to iron out. But that's just it, they're just bumps and Andromeda is still a great and fun game. It succeeds in separating itself from the original trilogy but needs work to garner the same level of praise. I am hopeful, as the groundwork is now laid out.

    Side Note:
Great ending! Wish ME 3 had one something like that.

Now even with all that this game is an experience you can jump in and just explore space and have a brand new experience in the Mass Effect universe. The combat has been updated and is extremely fun and smooth! I can use my biotic abilities to jump around the battlefield and destroy the enemy with my shotgun! Or I can just go into the pause menu and switch to my tech abilities and lay back and steal the enemies shields or go invisible and sneak around the battlefield and snipe them. Mass Effect: Andromeda is the Fallout 4 of the Mass Effect franchise. They spent so much time on the gameplay that they actually forgot to put some decent writing and characters in it as well. Political correctness and bad facial animations ruin what would have been a solid title. The first instance, by the way, of a game's politics becoming an obstacle to my enjoyment.

Right off the bad (typo that will stay!), I could not get a face that looked like mine, a pretty standard, rather squarish-headed person of European heritage. As the game progressed, there were a few other annoyances, such as the dialogue to follow a certain theme of virtue signalling, and the now obligatory slotting of characters into non traditional gender roles. Women almost always powerful, and waaaay too many "soft" men in military, trades or settler jobs.

Also, there was a lack of bloodthirstiness and general bad behavior by the human men in your company. Contrast these little bit characters' dialogue snippets with those of the Witcher 3, and you'll see what I mean, The men in W3 had vulgar, violent, and sexist leanings that added veracity. The men of Andromeda seemed sterile and unrealistic.

The dialogue wheel in Andromeda just isn't good. Not enough interesting choices, and that feeling of being a dangerous and sometimes evil space sheriff from previous Mass Effect titles was gone. I played an evil man in ME 1-3, and I just couldn't get that same feeling or anything close in Andromeda. That's a big problem in an RPG.

I won't go into the other details, I havn't yet finished the game and I probably won't. The combat is better, but there has been a lack of gore and that real feeling of impact from your weapons. It feels too HALO-y so far.

I would have preferred a grittier Andromeda overall, more Star Wars than Star Trek, but that is a design choice that I can accept, Mass Effect is more of a high sci-fi game, and that's okay.

Overall a disappointment, but still worth a go.

Andromeda is not a bad game, its not a good game either. The sites, the exploration and the graphics are where the goods are in this game. The characters however, are hit-and-miss as I found Jaal, PeeBee, Cora and Drack to be the most interesting per say. Liam, Vetra, and the countless members of the initiative that you run into bring little to nothing to the table outside of combat. I would almost compare Liam to a Jacob Taylor, boring to chat with but OK when it comes to Combat and it almost seems like they tried to make Vetra like Garrus but even at her best, she pales in comparison. The writing is also really bad, probably the worst in the series but to be fair this game was headed by Mac Walters, the guy who wrote the ending of Mass Effect 3 (where 150-200 hours of gameplay, choices, decisions come to fruition) in 10 minutes. The game takes almost no risk, carefully dodging anything related to Mass Effect 3's ending or Commander Shepard. Ryder does enough though his voice acting is in need of drastic improvements going forward. You get the vibe, especially with male Ryder that he isn't taking any of this seriously and its just hard to get behind him/her as a character when they don't bring much to the table. The main enemy, The Kett are the laziest attempt at a villian I've seen in a while. Its almost as if they took The Collectors from Mass Effect 2, threw in some of the Reaper traits in regards to the harvesting and made them look like weird Collector knockoffs. The game as a whole carries no weight, no feel, you don't get the sense that this could lead to something bigger when in comparison you knew that in the original Mass Effect you knew there was a bigger threat out there than the Geth and Saren. Its a hallow shell of everything that makes Mass Effect so good and so beloved. All in all, Andromeda is solid or an OK game but it serves as another example of EA's involvement with Bioware destroying the quality of these games in comparison to what Mass Effect 1-3 were. This game is an ambitious but lazy, hallow and almost soulless entry into the series. Expand

As an exception the only side quests are good, are the ones that tell you about the hidden story of the riddley family, and a lot of times are more interesting than the main story.
The gameplay is the part where the game more advance respect the previous games, The new combat system, It feels more freedom, you must move aroud the enemies and it doesn´t work stay en same cover all the time, But the automatic cover system doesn´t work, and a lot of times you are out the cover without realizing. Other thing negative in the combat system is that you can´t give orders at yours partner for combine powers.
In summary if the game had a better rhythm, the story was a better told, and the side quests were more funny, the game would be much better.

This is the first time Bioware screw up the Mass Effect series after Dragon age 2. I make this easy for those Mass effect fan or fist timer to decide you want to pick up this game or not. Keep in mind that this is just my opinion.

Good *First time huge open world to explore *Lot of dialog option *Battle system is fun *Lot of Main quest & Side quest Bad *Repeating side quest

I keep wondering to myself "what would I rate this if I had never played the original trilogy?" I honestly don't think this game is terrible, but I don't think it's phenomenal either. It really feels like a bad case of "Spin-off-it is". Like the writers and developers were so desperate to establish the characters with these over-the-top personalities that they just come off as cliché.I keep wondering to myself "what would I rate this if I had never played the original trilogy?" Like the writers and developers were so desperate to establish the characters with these over-the-top personalities that they just come off as cliché. I suppose if you try hard enough you can squeeze any character into a stereo-type, but this is kind of ridiculous. Liam is a badly written/acted Guy Ritchie character (yeah, Liam, I get it. You're "edgy"...) and Peebee is just "that obnoxiously quirky one" (yeah Peebee, I get it, you're the upbeat plucky one with a "can do" attitude that doesn't take no for an answer...). Hopefully the character development will improve as the story progresses, but here in the beginning it's not particularly engaging. The combat is good, probably the best of any ME game I've ever played. The story-telling has its hits and misses, but can be overshadowed by the weird animations and character models. I can look past these things and enjoy the game, I suppose, but I can't recommend anyone shell out $60 for this unless you can't find anything else you'd rather spend your money on. If you do, hopefully you can look past the flaws in the character presentation and graphical issues. The scenery is gorgeous and there is the potential for some great non-Reaper related storytelling that takes place in the ME universe here. Expand

Under any other name this would be a great game. Given the fact that its Mass Effect makes the game trash? This game is incredibly fun, but I can see how longtime veterans could dislike it. Honestly I can see myself really enjoying this game for months to come. Its not perfect, but its still very enjoyable.

Edit: Abandoned game, developer said screw it and moved on. Pvp is paywall rng

It might be the biggest, most complex and action packed game in the franchise, but Mass Effect: Andromeda is also the least convincing one. The dated facial animations, the inconsistent writing quality and the regularly occurring bugs take you out of the experience too often. On top of that, BioWare has not used the concept of a whole new universe to its full potential, which often makes it feel like Mass Effect: Andromeda has not left our Milky Way at all.

While it’s underwhelming in places, there’s a lot to like as you venture into the weirder parts of Andromeda. Frequent technical issues hamper the experience a bit, as does an uninspiring main story. [June 2017, p66]

A welcome, if slightly patch return for Mass Effect. The script has problems, but combat is bloody brilliant. [May 2017, p.62]
