    A sci-fi Skyrim-
A lot of bashing here for the beta state of the game, and I agree that it is definitely lacking polish.

The core game-play, character skill tree, and shear size of the world make this game fun. The story isn't bad, but it definitely targets a sci-fi audience. A lot of jokes and dialogue are more technically thought out and implementation of the characters and side quests is more realistic than most RPGs. To find a worthwhile side quest you have to read through terminal logs and emails to see what the minor characters are actually thinking, and then follow their bread crumbs to start the quest.

The game is only grindy if you let it be. Pick what weapons you want to build and what kind of loadout you want, so that you don't waste any resources. The whole premise of the game is based around being short on resources and having to acquire everything you need to gain upgrades (kind of like a survival game).

I wish that it had the level of writing and facial animation as witcher 3, but I understand they may not have had the money or technical expertise on their team to do this so they played to the strengths of their dev team. The voice acting was a strong point imo, but occasionally the writing fails the characters.

9/10 would be 10/10 if it weren't for the lack of polish, and 11/10 if it had witcher 3 writing and animation.

The pros of the game are the vast amount of content, gorgeously crafted planets, fun exploration and very fun shooting/combat mechanics. The cons as most have pointed out are the poor cut scene animations and in some instances worse dialogue than the previous M.E. games though some of the dialogue is excellent and some is poor, so it's a mixed bag that overall ends of being pretty decent. Another con is the clunky UI at times as well, Bioware made doing simple things a bit too difficult in certain instances (like crafting and the quest layout), but because there is so much to do and so much going on in the game it is somewhat understandable. The male Ryder animations seem to be better than the female Ryder for some strange reason. The graphics of the worlds in the game are absolutely incredible, you will find yourself admiring the beauty and vastness of the planets often if you are like me (this is something I did in M.E. 2 and 3 as well, but with the advanced technology nowadays this game obviously blows them away on that level). There are certainly a lot of things to like about the game and I think if you are a die-hard RPG fan who loves huge games with tons of content and an intriguing premise, as well as people who love sci-fi in general I would certainly recommend the game to you. Content, fun factor, and exploration are far more important elements of RPG's than graphics and cut scene animations so because the game nails the important parts of an RPG I feel the game deserves a good rating. The cut scene animations aren't that bad either, they end of being pretty mediocre, which is unfortunate but they truly don't take away from the insane amount of fun to be had exploring a brand new galaxy and the very compelling narrative ( I mean, come on, starting a civilization on a different galaxy, that's pretty cool)! For me, this is good continuation of Mass Effect. The Campaign is very good, and side-mission are not boring. Especially travelling to other planets is great. Only shooting is not perfect.

I am a long time fan of the series, and I have to say that this one doesn't disappoint. I am 20 hours into the game and my rating is 9/10. On a PC, very few graphic issues (if any), also animations are OK. The game is immense, the vastity of things to do, see, collect and kill - and people to talk to - is just staggering. Technically and artistically, it's a gigantic feat.

For now, the storytelling doesn't have the gravitas or the intensity of ME2 or 3, and that's the only reason why I don't give it a full score. But the premises are different: Shepard was a leader and a veteran already at the beginning of the story, while Scott is a young (man or woman), and the whole tone of the story reflects this difference. Imagine a school trip that lasts for 600 years, and takes you to a new galaxy. This was the Andromeda Initiative, for the protagonist, at the setup.

Commenters may like the game or not, but to give it a score of 0 (zero???) or even 2 or 3 means, in my opinion, not to give value and credit where it's due and I suspect at least some of it is due to hate towards Bioware and its political choices.

It does start slow and takes a bit to ramp up, but so did Mass Effect 1. BUT to reassure anyone who is here for the story I am enjoying it immensely. It's classic science fiction which seems to be building into one heck of a space opera kind of tale.

The character creator is just as bad as the first series, so if you want to enjoy the adventures of ugly Shepard (or in this case ugly Ryder) go make a character with it otherwise use the default. It is well crafted and suits who the characters are. This has never been a strong point of the series and not exactly the driving force behind this type of game.

The game does have bugs, yes it sure does but those will vanish with a patch or two. That's all in my opinion that drags the score down for me. Though some of these are definitely engine bugs because I remember running into similar issues in DA:I.

In the end is this game worth it? Yes!
It's easy to be a toxic reviewer and there seem to be a lot of those on here. I'd disregard anyone who uses crude and negative language without actually explaining themselves. I'd also disregard anyone who reviewed the game one day one of release because I'm 50 hours in and only 30% done the story. :)

    Stay strong and clear!

Is it perfect? no, no game is perfect in my opinion, cause if a game is perfect that means there is no room for improvement. Are there flaws? yes, but they are less apparent the further you get in the game. Do the human like characters(this includes asari) look derpy? yes, does it need work? yes. Are all games perfect on launch? no. From what I've seen in my life as a gamer no game is 100% perfect off the start, this isn't the days of old school where you had to get it right off the bat. With today gaming publishers can patch as they go, players just need to voice feedback. Will the flaws get fixed? pretty sure they've said a patch is on the way, or in the works. Anyways, everyone is entitled to their opinions, but atleast make informed reviews after actually playing the game. Most people seem to be trash talking the game for the sake of trash talking it, because it's the in thing to do. Now if you actually played the game and decided you didn't like it fine, personally i'm enjoying myself greatly. The campaign is fun and new, combat is sleek and fluid, and multiplayer is a blast. Is it gonna win game of the year? probably not, but i don't care. I'm just gonna enjoy exploring and killing aliens, and hopefully people will learn to give games a chance then let other people decide what they like and don't like. Expand

The story isnt groundbreaking, but Mass Effect never had an insane story anyhow, but it has a really big story that is detailed with lots of small little things to explore and figure out for countless of hours.

Can also recommend playing as an Adept, wich is immensely badass compared to the regular soldier that many people seem to go for, the combat is excellent and the gameplay doesnt have many bugs at all.

Absolutely worth the money I spent on it, I had a blast!

That said, in being selective about which quests I take on, I have found myself consistently excited to continue on with playing the game. The combat is challenging with a healthy amount of enemy variety as well as drastically different weapons to choose from. A change to your load out completely changes the feeling of encounters and causes you to adjust your play-style accordingly.

There is far too much to touch on each aspect of this game but also captures what makes it better than lots of people are saying: there are so many parts to this game and there is a lot of good to be found amongst the clutter. Bioware seemed to favor quantity over quality in this title and there is no doubt that it is the weakest game to sport the "Mass Effect" title. That said, when viewed as a stand-alone product free from the expectations of the franchise, I really believe that there is a whole lot to enjoy here. I certainly am enjoying it despite the many flaws that have been largely focussed on in the reporting of this game.

The Multiplayer is great too. Less waves than before but new weapons to unlock and new classes to explore, while the old favourites are still there. There both is and isn't a lot of new weapons in game. After a certain point you can only do variations of existing weapons in any game, though they do expand the weapons where they can. I really like how it integrates into the singleplayer too. Makes it feel way more involved. Also it's kinda fun sending out the Apex teams on missions too.
They use the frostbite engine which works great though they did drop the ball back in beta when it comes to the animations. Stick with the default character until that's fixed and you'll be fine though. I did restart after about 4 hours, and it took me about 20 minutes to catch back up, by skipping all the cutscenes.
Anyway, back to the game. See you all in the MP!

Time to move on! If you want a repeat of ME1-3, play the old game and don't destroy a perfectly good game because you didn't get "The Return of the Shepard".

Is the game perfect? No, of course not. An ever more demanding audience will obviously point at some bugs and glitches. Is it game breaking? No. Also, Bioware has been quick to bring some patches so kudos to them for that.

The story: I like it. It is space exploration. You are the alien in another galaxy so can't just go gun-ho on every one. The squad team is nice and even if I have my favourites, I don't have any that I'd want to throw in the airlock. Some people try to compare a story developed over three games vs one and to point the obvious: it is a different story, different characters, different feel so stop comparing and enjoy for what it is: a nice game that doesn't try to take itself too seriously.

The combat system is great: you have a lot of skills to chose from and even if you can develop your favourite build, you are not tied to it and can develop more skills to try something different or even completely respec. Combat is also very fluid and really comes to life in the multiplayer. I have spent many hours on the mp with three friends and still not getting bored because we can swap characters (and their skills) to fight differently.

I'm certainly happy with my purchase. I don't pretend to say it's a perfect game but it gives hours of entertainment and replayability.

Some of them (Sara, Keri, Lexi, Drack) have the potential to become my new all-time favourite characters in the ME Universe. All in all the game presents a good foundation for future adventures in Andromeda or the ME Universe in general.
The main storyline was very well done and offered a lot of fun, suspense and excitement, however, it could have had "more meat on the bones" in that it felt somehow somewhat "shorter" (without having a direct comparison at hand) than what I remember of the previous ME games. Especially some plot lines that relate to the Andromeda Initiative and its background could have been answered in the game and would have made the experience more satisfying to me. As is, I am left to wonder and wait (which is not a bad thing per se) for a resolution through DLC or a potential sequel.
The lighter tone of the game despite the dire circumstances after arriving in Andromeda was something I really enjoyed, especially in those character-focused moments (the bar fight with Drack, for example). Having played as Sara, the voice acting stood out as being very good. She had me in stitches at times. Overall, the quality of voicing the characters and bringing them to life was as enjoyably well done as in the original trilogy. Considering Andromeda is only one game, that is quite an achievement already.
Unfortunately, the game seems to suffer from a fair amount of - fixable - bugs. I experienced minor issues where I could not finish 2 side missions due to unknown reasons and having a couple of "accidents" in cutscenes where characters or the camera was not where it should have been. Aside from these problems - personally I found only one of them really very annoying - the game suffered from performance issues, especially on the player's ship and during the cutscenes prior to the finale (the "space battle" before the mission on Meridian).
It would have been fantastic if these issues had been taken care of before the launch of Andromeda, but considering that patches have already been issued and are in the "production pipeline" along with DLC, I am willing to "forgive" Bioware, considering how ridiculously good their games usually are (Mass Effect 2 - I am looking at you). Real people's facial animations aren't necessarily substantially better or worse than Andromeda's, in my subjective perception ;)
Summing up, I think Andromeda is a great tale and offers a solid foundation for future (character-driven) stories in the ME Universe and generally does more things fantastically right than abysmally wrong. :)

The amount of 0-3 review scores is astounding to me and does the game a great disservice. I'm gonna go out on a limb and say I enjoyed it more than Horizon (also a great game). It has been said that the game is too big and has too many side missions. Easy remedy: don't do em. Yes, there is some filler in there, but you are an explorer, so it gives some pertinence to, well, exploring. I've also read that the dialog is uninspired. Ok, some of it can be cheesy, but overall, I'd say its better than its predecessors. I'd go on to say that the voice acting is actually superior to 1-3 (which I also enjoyed). Not sure if it was an EA thing, or a Bioware thing, or hell, maybe just a bandwagon hate thing, but the scores on here are undeserved. I'm not an apologist for these companies (couldn't care less), but had to give my 2-cents on the bias scores. My definition of a good game is one that I want to continue playing after the credits roll. This game most definitely fit into that category.
PS This is my first review. Hopefully someone finds it useful. thanks
PPS I do agree that there are too few alien races in this game (could be a reason for that tho)

Not the perfect gem that is Witcher 3 but still a great open world RPG. On its own, however, it's great. As for its political themes, Bioware has never shied away from such, but maybe some ME fans weren't old enough to realize this before? The story of refugees seeking asylum from a war-torn homeland may be unique to gamer, but it serves as an interesting reflection of today's cultural climate.... and that's one of the things sci-fi does best, places a mirror to ourselves and asks what if? The backlash against such a storyline is a sign of our political climate, not any change on the Bioware's part... regardless of who's the head of the writing team. Sure, day one had some hiccups, but the updates have patched most everything that drove down its initial score. One more note: the hoopla against the default female Ryder is ridiculously immature, and if adolescent gamers wishing to capitalize on the male gaze didn't know, you can customize the look and gender of your character all you want. In short, check this game out. It's not something that will hook you in the opening minutes (or even first hour), but given time, you'll find it being a great little itch you have to scratch. After all, the galaxy needs you, Pathfinder. Expand

A massive space opera, with interesting characters and intriguing macro story. Some weak dialogue in places, but overall the game play and visuals make this game a must. Don't let the haters decide. As Kant said, 'have the courage to form your own understanding'.

This is an engrossing game with beautiful worlds, fun combat, and a lot of likable characters.
I would have appreciated a more complex soundtrack and wittier dialogue. However, even without those, it's still an extremely pleasurable game.

For those considering whether to buy this game or not, I would say....
To the first critique: I haven't played prior ME games so I can't give a fair comparison. BUT, if you like games with massive open worlds, a well executed action-rpg combat system, plentiful romance options, and a Dragon Age-like dialogue system, you will most likely have fun with this.
To the second critique: I haven't seen a lot of bugs with the updates.
To the third type of neg reviewer: Get over your entitlement. A game does not deserve a low score because it fails to reflect your prejudices.

This game should not be missed. If you haven't played it yet, go get it.

I'm giving it 9 out of 10 after 86 hours in the game. And I still have offline content left, I didn't even try online yet. While I understand that the game must have been bugged when released, it is completely fine now. Other than that, I don't understand all the hate, it just does not deserve this hate. Besides, it is much cheaper now.

It is the good old mass effect but with the open world and endless side-quests. The main plot may not be as epic as in the first trilogy, but it is the exploration and all the small details and many planets that you can settle and spend time on that make MEA as good as any game of the past. Some of the side quests are not very original and make you travel a lot, but many are interesting and rewarding and lead to some unexpected results. And what I loved the most is that you can continue exploring the universe after finishing the main plot - and there are still a lot of things to do and see there!

Overall, I don't regret a single minute I played it and I rarely play games this long.
Space-based RPGs rarely appear at all and it is too bad MEA received such low rankings - I'm afraid Bioware will drop the franchise.

Definitely give MEA a try if you are a space opera fan, a game like this won't appear for many years.

I thoroughly enjoyed this game! I hate how much bad press this game received, considering it was still such a delight to play. Having just finished my first play-through on nightmare at 100+ hrs, I can only say that my personal experience does not agree with a 4.8 user score. Not at all. It would be interesting to see the average scores from May or so.

Of course, getting into the game in October is quite late and there have been patches and improvements since the initial release. I cannot judge how the game was back then. Still, it is impossible to account for _such_ a big difference in scoring so my guess is that there was probably a lot of emotions involved.
When MEA was released I was quite occupied with work. Having played the other ME games I knew what I would be getting myself into with a new Mass Effect game: buy game, start playing, become completely consumed and addicted to the story, must play any time I can, just one more mission, grumpy wife... All totally worth it. And so it went down. I have thoroughly enjoyed MEA. Completed all side quests that I could find and looking around for more.

I liked the storyline, loved how the team characters developed (OK, not Liam ;)). The combat was absolutely on-the-spot to my liking with AI being pretty good. Loved these typical first encounters - first vault run, first destroyer, first architect - WTF I'm going to die!!!
Laughed hard on many occassions with lines coming from Peebee, Jaal and Drack. And having any combination of them in the Nomad. Peebee and Cora was also good fun ;)

So yes, the graphics are under-par. Some animation graphics simply sucked, pretty badly. And I had a couple of bugs where I needed to load a saved game in my 100+ hrs run.
But if you're a gamer like me that buys into this combat/gameplay, story, lore and how a game feels then MEA is a great game. I gladly trade graphics - and a little stability - for any of these.

MEA is another great game. Could it have been better? Yes, definately. Would I like and pay for more single-player DLC and sequels? Hell yes! Is MEA worth the price tag? Yes, no doubt. I would give the game a 8.5 out of 10. Seeing the current user score I have made it a 9.

I have never taken the time to write a review. My only hope is that in some way it may help to get the game dev team and EA realize that they absolutely must make more ME content. It makes me very very very sad to read that this may be the end. Mass Effect is dear to me.

It might be the biggest, most complex and action packed game in the franchise, but Mass Effect: Andromeda is also the least convincing one. The dated facial animations, the inconsistent writing quality and the regularly occurring bugs take you out of the experience too often. On top of that, BioWare has not used the concept of a whole new universe to its full potential, which often makes it feel like Mass Effect: Andromeda has not left our Milky Way at all.

While it’s underwhelming in places, there’s a lot to like as you venture into the weirder parts of Andromeda. Frequent technical issues hamper the experience a bit, as does an uninspiring main story. [June 2017, p66]

A welcome, if slightly patch return for Mass Effect. The script has problems, but combat is bloody brilliant. [May 2017, p.62]
