    The game is pretty much a copy of Madden 20, with 1 new mode(the yard) added. Franchise mode is unchanged, gameplay is just as bad, and glitches are not fixed. This game is worth $5 tops. The other new mode, face of the franchise, is the worst story mode I have ever seen. What you do has no impact on the storyline, and the story itself isn’t even good, it is corny and unrealistic.     I have lost my faith in EA to deliver a half decent football game. I have fallen for EA's marketing scheme for far too long and I'm just done getting my hopes up. I continue to buy this game because I hope to experience how it feels to be part of the National Football League but instead I get the typical EA experience. And sad truth is that I actually think the developers at EA want toI have lost my faith in EA to deliver a half decent football game. You can lose each game 70-0 and still have 10 D1 offers out of high school. Franchise mode got copy pasted, Superstar Ko got copy pasted, the yard is OK, but nowhere near enough to bring it out of 0 territory. The soundtrack is garbage,This game is a dumpster fire. I did not like Madden 20 but in 24 hours I want my refund. The grind for MUT is so unreal it's like I have part time job because I refuse to drop hundreds on an online casino to b competitive. Pokemon fire red is a better game than this on every level. In squads the only way you can play QB is if you snap the ball under enter. I will digress because I assume I have lost the reader but I cannot in good conscious tell anyone to purchase this disgrace of a "game" I hope everyone at Madden and EA know that one day all the chickens will come home to roost… Expand

    Played during EA Play days. It was littered with bugs and glitches. It's like nobody touched the game outside of a few new features they added into the game. Bugs and glitches go all the way from my first game having my player being completely invisible, to having dropped passes touch the ground for the opposing team to pick it up and run it for a touchdown, spelling is bad throughout,Played during EA Play days. I do somewhat enjoy The Yard, and honestly its my favorite mode this year. I played over 247 hours on franchise mode in last years Madden and I honestly CANNOT go through another franchise with the same amount of hours because of how stale it is. This game is far beyond anything simulation, morphing as you fall to the ground to grab an interception, Super human AI always touching the ball after a ball gets tipped, new pass rush is a joke as you watch your defender lay out a blocker but watch the blocker jump right back up because the game wants you to fail, All-Pro is too easy, All Madden is too unfair, your AI defenders get stuck from moving during interceptions, in face the franchise even though I am "Unlocking" traits they are not unlocking at all for me in the game, I'm watching players get kicked from my team in franchise and completely disappear from the game. I could go ON AND ON on how bad this game is. I completely understand that COVID can make the game buggy and unplayable to an extent, but this just shows how lazy EA is when it comes to their sports game. And a lot of these issues have been in since last year! They literally add one or two small features in the game, slap a new year and cover player then call it a day. Do yourself a favor and stop supporting this nonsense so we can actually get competition back into the NFL franchise. Having MUT be the main focus every year is just a big slap to the fans who would like a simulation-based football game. Do yourself a favor and DO NOT BUY.… Expand

    It’s clear that EA spent less than a day working on this game. The attention to detail is next to none, and the unbelievable lack of alterations to Franchise mode is a disgrace. Do NOT spend your money on this game.

    This is simply a shame the game of football, franchise mode is simply plain and boring. Ultimate team his just a microtransaction fest and constantly feels rigged even when winning. EA sports needs to lose the licence agreement with the NFL, but we all know that is not gonna happen. Just don't buy.

    This game is absolutely broken from the foundation up, yet they devote all their resources to features no one wants or asks for. The majority of their focus is spent on getting young children to gamble in their virtual trading-card game, Ultimate Team. However, I care about gaming and the industry as a whole and what EA has done for the last 10 years is a complete joke. They chose to favor arcade modes over their simulation modes in their EXCLUSIVE NFL SIMULATION GAME, and they couldn’t even do that right. One can only hope that this disastrous launch inspires them to actually try when it comes to the next-gen version and in madden 22. All I can say is I am glad that I got the 10-hour trial to realize how **** this years game is, instead of paying $60 and regretting it instantly. And to be real honest, you don’t even need to use all 10 hours of that trial, I used about 2 1/2 to play a couple exhibition games, try out the yard, and glance at mut. I figured out in that amount of time after doing all that, that my 60 bucks was well spent somewhere else.… Expand

Did not fix pursuit lanes, or OL blocking. Still animation based, so no physics at all. Refused to release any gameplay before launch, because of how bad the game is.     The worst Madden yet. 15 years of NFL license exclusivity and no competition has led us to this point. EA only cares about MUT and micro transactions, Franchise Mode was far better back in Madden 2005. Do yourself a favour and buy that or NFL2K5 off eBay instead of this garbage. #boycottMadden

    I have played Madden since 04 and this game gets more disrespectful to the fanbase as the years go on. They are literally feeding us the same game play with even worse game play than ever. Its insane smh, so embarrassing its a waste of time and money. Do not get! Just play Madden 20 if you are a masochist and save 60+ bucks.

There is absolutely no depth and no replayability in Franchise mode or Face of the Franchise (the new attempt at Career Mode/Superstar Mode). Face of the Franchise is plagued with horrible cringeworthy writing and an extremely short storyline with meaningless "choices". The core Franchise community has been completely neglected once again in favor of focusing and investing in the pay-to-win arcade modes, mainly MUT. 5000 characters are not enough to explain everything that needs to be improved/fixed in Franchise Mode. I advised everyone to check out 3 channels on Youtube who have made extremely detailed videos outlining everything wrong with Madden Franchise Mode: ShutdownSafety21 (Ryan Moody), SOFTDRINKTV, and ThatFranchiseGuy. Keep the hashtag #FixMaddenFranchise trending on twitter, the community needs to keep our voices heard until EA restores Franchise mode to its former glory. The community deserves better.

    Gameplay: The gameplay is still the same handful of canned animations from the last 5 years that make every game extremely boring and predictable. Animations still fail to blend properly most of the time which causes awful-looking interactions between players, and most animations have visual cues that make it extremely easy to predict outcomes of a play. Referees are still missing which is still a major complaint that EA has yet to address. Overall, it is clear that the Frostbite engine is not capable of replicating real-life football, and EA really needs to rebuild this game on a physics-based engine. The addition of X-factors only serves to make the gameplay less like actual NFL simulation. This shift to dumbed-down arcade-style gameplay is clearly intended to appeal to younger players who are more inclined to carelessly spend money on microtransactions. The Madden devs and executive teams have lost any and all intentions of replicating real-life football.

    Presentation: Visual game-day presentation is the exact same bland repetitive animations from the last 5 years. This includes team entrances, sideline clips, and SB win celebrations. The pre-game, post-game, and half-time shows/reports are extremely inadequate in giving you stats/storylines about the game and the season in general. The commentary library consists of the same boring and predictable lines that we have been hearing for the past 5 years. The commentary team is devoid of any personality or passion and often say lines that are irrelevant to what is happening on the field. Madden desperately needs a complete presentation overhaul to get on par with NBA2K's presentation and commentary.

    In conclusion, Madden 21 gets a 0 because of what it should have been. Ever since the transition onto the next generation (Xbox 360/PS3), EA has had 11 YEARS to rebuild this game, and they have gotten nowhere. 11 years of empty promises and microtransactions make it clear that with a lack of any competitor in the NFL simulation video game market, EA is able to remain complacent and neglect anything that isn't MUT. Despite what IGN has claimed for the last 5 years, EA has yet again failed to make any real "steps in the right direction".    … Expand

    Yes, please rent this at a redbox or sign up for ea access and play it for 10 hours. thats all the time youll need to realize this game is not complete, absolutely broken and unplayable. you cant even get through the menus without constantly waiting and while you are in a game, the screen stutters and flickers. even freezes when you score a touchdown. unplayable - ea has lost their way.

A huge majority of my issues are persistant issues from game to game. Littered with bugs, completely unplayable at times. There are too many times where a player does a balancing act on their facemask for 15 second. Just for an opposing player to be the only one who grabs it, because EA Tiburons idea of simulation football is to completely script events to make the game "harder" when in all actuality. All that they're doing is making you want to turn the game off.

    For 7 years, Franchise Mode has remained a stain on this community, the lack of love and effort for this project is glaring. There is not a single developer in that ideas room that knows football.

    Madden 21 sucks. The gameplay is terrible as the gameplay feels very fast and modes like Franchise are neglected in favor of nodes like the yard and ultimate team. There are also various frame rate issues that caused me to miss PATs. #endmaddenmonopoly

    This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Madden has gone off the deep end in quality and gameplay, who knew that using a game engine meant for first-person shooters is not very compatible with a football game? Here's my overview of each of the major game modes.

    MUT is EA's big moneymaker and yet they have botched the launch already with many of their loyal fans reporting MUT's servers kicking them off whenever they open a pack or not even receiving their players they pre-ordered. For something EA has shown a large amount of care towards, even putting what is basically ads in your game telling you to play MUT, is absolutely broken.

    The Yard is a good idea on paper and if this was executed better I would be saying praises of it, but like I said earlier, first-person-shooter engine. The game mode, of course, has micro-transactions within it for gear and equipment for your avatar. The biggest slap in the face is the mouthguards, which EA has repeatably said they "Don't have enough resources for". It is only available in the yard with some of them behind a paywall.

    Face of Franchise has the most bogged down, cheesy, nonsensical story out there. Not to mention that bad gameplay. Seriously, even if you get 700 yards as QB in the College National Championship, a guy with a HEART DEFECT still gets your starting job forcing you to change positions to be a Wide Receiver or a Running Back or entering the Draft. The storylines are a nice change, but some make absolutely no sense. Sometimes, I wish we had Madden 18 Longshot back, at least the story was half good.

    Superstar K.O. is back, cool I guess? (Obligatory first-person-shooter engine reference) It's not bad, but EA decided to spend their time doing this instead of fixing the gameplay or Franchise mode, making this more of a waste than actual fun.

    Oh boy, Franchise mode. How do I even start? Franchise Mode is the bread and butter of many Madden games from the PS2-PS3 era and as a former Madden 06 fan, it's an absolute shame to see what EA has done to it. If you get a hashtag like #FixMaddenFranchise number 1 in the country during a time of civil unrest and protests on Twitter, You done screwed up. EA basically "added" what is equivalent to patch notes only because they had to due to the new playoff system that the NFL. Most likely if the new playoff system didn't pass, the only thing they would of changed would be adding the new X-Factor players and UI. Franchise Mode used to be the main source of income due to it's dynamic and fun gameplay, but the discovery of MUT ruined this once great mode. It's barely been updated since Madden 13, the relocation teams are the same since Madden 25, and the only new thing they added would be customizable draft classes, but scouting is the same, boring, drab, annoying thing that it is despite this update.

    Gameplay you might ask? Don't get started on the gameplay, just watch any of RyanMoody21, SoftDrinkSports, or even RBT's videos on the gameplay for an explanation. My main gripe with the gameplay was instead of fixing the excess fumbling by mobile QBs (i.e. Russell Wilson, Lamar Jackson, Josh Allen) from Madden 20, they added the most cheese X-Factor "Truzz" which while it is active you cannot fumble. Instead of fixing the issue, they just slapped an X-Factor on it and called it good despite the fact that there are still Russell Wilson and Josh Allen-type QBs out there that are fumbling like nobody's business. QB's sliding is to prevent injury, not to prevent fumbling. Even the horrid commentators comment on this by saying "He's going to get an A++ on that play for sliding, protecting himself" (They say that line about 20 times per game) X-Factors shouldn't be just cheese like not being able to fumble or get intercepted. It should be an increased level of play, which is why Blitz Radar and Pro Reads are my favorites because they aren't overall overpowered, but aren't complete freebies like Gambler or Truzz either.

    This is not good football, and if you keep spending money buying the game/micro-transactions within the game, EA will not have any incentive to actually fix their game. All we can do now is hope that 2K actually makes a good game in the meantime.    … Expand

    Don't buy. Just download the roster on the community page. It's just the same game. They'll gladly take your money on mut and you'll never see those resources used on the game. No changes to franchise mode. Added an arcade mode in a game that has simulation exclusive rights just because 2k got rights. Keep getting robbed.

(An arcade style 6v6 backyard football mode with cosmetics you can buy with real money) This game is an unpolished, unfinished, and more buggy simulation football game than last year. I pre ordered the game in hope that maybe EA would follow through but I should have know they will never do more than what is required, the bare minimum. Was refunded the money paid this game after a hour of gameplay.

One example off the top of my head, Miles Garrett's X Factor description lists him as 23 and not 24. It was ripped directly from last year's title. This is a small detail, but it goes to show how little care was put into making the game feel unique. The developers are aware of the fact that they are lazy and are too lazy to hide their laziness.

    The game-play feels pretty untouched from last year. The jukes feel a bit slower and I find that the CPU gets called on pass interference fairly often. Outside of that, the game plays very similar to last year. If you liked the game-play in 2020, this game-play will be no different.

    They included a new game mode called Yard. It feels like a combination of Superstar KO and NFL Street. It's reasonably fun, but very arcade-y. EA owns the rights to make a simulation style NFL game, and instead have focused on the arcade aspects.

    Franchise mode is completely unchanged aside from a change in color and the font is bolded. That's it. I cannot find a single other difference. This is by far the most egregious issues because fans have been outspoken for their wish for improved franchise modes.

    Overall, I know nothing I or other reviewers say will change anything. It's like when you're realizing that you can't change your S.O. and have to let them go. I think it's time I let Madden go. I know EA won't miss me, but I miss Madden.    … Expand

    By far the worst EA game I've ever played. I even stopped after realIzing everthing was the EXACT same from prior yrs. NOT SPENDING MY MONEY ON A HALF ASS MADE GAME I EXPECTED MORE EA

    Its trash. Mut the same, franchise the same, is a fake nfl street worth 60 more bucks???? I disagree. I would be lying if I didnt think the tackling and things like that are better and smoother but whats the point of decent gameplay with the most bare bone franchise mode in history

    Madden NFL 21 is another blatant recycling of last year’s edition of the „simulation“ of the American football. Sadly, most of the modes remained the same. Gameplay received a few minor tweaks, and in the end it still persists as a cash grab not worth anybody’s time.

    For NFL diehards, there remains hundreds of gaming hours at your disposal in Madden 21. These same diehards – much like players of EA’s NHL and Sony’s The Show – will be left with the impression they’ve played this game before, however.
