Madden 21 on PS5 exceeds my expectations. As someone who plays Madden every single year, that says a lot. If you already bought the PS4 or Xbox One version of the game, dual-entitlement will allow you to snag the next-gen version for free. It’s well in your best interest to do so with your brand-spankin'-new next-gen console.

Madden NFL 21 on next-gen consoles is undoubtedly an upgraded version of the previous generation, but it doesn’t make leaps and bounds to reinvent the franchise. Even though there are improved visuals and EA Tiburon implemented Next Gen stats, this still feels like Madden. A lot of the legacy issues are still here, but aren’t as apparent. When you have a series that thrives on eSports, it’s difficult to switch the formula. The controller feedback from the DualSense is the bright spot of the experience, but the visuals were already good on last gen and just get a further polish here. You’ll encounter changes you appreciate piece-by-piece, but when you finish a game, you’ll feel that it’s still just Madden.

Madden NFL 21 has all the same problems as its PS4 predecessor, because it’s basically the same game. The presentation has taken a half-step forward owing to the increase of hardware power, but it’s many yards behind the standard now set by FIFA 21 and NBA 2K21. The increased loading times improve the flow of modes like Ultimate Team, and the gameplay is marginally more authentic thanks to the implementation Next Gen Stats, but an ageing Franchise mode and some tired animations mean this is hardly the improvement fans anticipated.

This felt more like a "new" Madden than any of them have in years. Miles ahead of the dumpster fire that the PS4 version was.

Fast load times are a plus here-especially, when completing challenges in ultimate team. The next gen stats are a neat concept but aren’t game changing. The new mode, the yard can be fun, especially if playing with friends. Other modes still lack major changes from previous games-bugs can be an issue, especially in the face of the franchise mode Expand

I've never been this compelled to write a review about a game so much so that I literally just created an account because of the dumpster fireI've never been this compelled to write a review about a game so much so that I literally just created an account because of the dumpster fire that is Madden 21. I held off buying Madden at launch this year because previous installments weren't good especially at launch. So after several months I finally bought it around NFL playoff time because I love the game of football. And to say this game is bad is and understatement. The game was riddled with silly glitches at launch from what I saw online and even now their are some glitches but besides that it's simply not a fun game. One of the best features added to the game in Madden 20 was the being able to "pull down and run" with the QB behind the line of scrimmage. Now suspiciously that feature is gone? No mention of it really besides some random Madden faq forum. And don't even get me started on the severely and I mean SERVERELY underdeveloped franchise mode. It's practically the same as Madden 20 but with a nice coat of **** paint. The complete lack of effort put into this game is mind boggling. I understand there was a pandemic and all but if that hindered develop that much DELAY THE GAME. Please EA Don't put out half ass games anymore. The next gen verse features minor graphical upgrades but both special. If you're actually lookin into buying the game, just don't. I know the popular thing is to hate on Madden but trust me it's well deserved. I try not to complain too much, I mean my most played game recently is "Avengers". If you know anything about that game you'll know the bug fest that was. But in Avengers case atleast it attempts to be a fun game especially with friends. Madden 21 is not fun. 1 star because the pass Rush is better and decently interesting. And 1 star because it's the only football game out on the market. Expand

Same barebones stripped down game since 2015 - only with shiny new Next Gen stats.

    Joke.

Game is controlled by animations so situations are predetermined more often than not. It's really a matter of how can you cheese the computer or a competitor rather than who actually outwitted and outplayed their opponent. Luckily I got the game for free. It’s time madden stops taking our money for a new roster each year. That’s really all we buy it for because we always expect the same trash of a game with pay to win MUT mode. Franchise mode is terrible as always. The game is broken. No skill or football knowledge needed whatsoever. TRASH. Save your money and DO NOT BUY THIS GAME. Expand

The game is shallow, with 89 features from older games completely absent, the gameplay is awful, bugs and glitches are everywhere, and yet the game still sells thanks to an exclusive NFL simulation license, game changers/mut streamers promoting the game, and "madden simps". It's a bad game with a perfect storm of chaos allowing it to be successful. It's a scam. The only difference between this and the PS4 version is the Next gen stats feature, something MLB the show has had since 2016 on the PS4 Expand
