Bizarre receiver animations that "toe-tap" 5 yards away from sidelines. Player momentum that would see a real world result are prevented by a canned animation that makes zero sense. Example: A throw behind Gronk which caused him to lay out to make the catch should result in him falling straight to the ground to complete the catch. Unfortunately the animation sequence resulted in a defender locking Gronk up into a grapple when this would be physically impossible to perform. The attention to detail is lacking from this game developer. Expand

If madden 22 doesn’t pop out like 2k did this year just wait till it’s on sale to buy it because $70aint it for the same things.

This year we have all been lied to as sports gamers by madden. The next gen trailer they decided to release earlier this year was a flat out lie interns of graphics, presentation, and etc. EA executives have lowered the ball due to greed from MUT. We all anticipated great games from both 2k and madden and only one company showed some progress and effort in their game and it was not madden. I call for a us sports gamers to stop buying madden until they can give us the best of the best graphics, gameplay, presentation, franchise, MUT, and servers. #maddenhasfallen

Straight garbage they should give everyone who owns the game a refund. The running game has been broken in madden since 2007. It’s terrible with no logic at all every SINGLE play has nothing but glitches and animations. I’m not sure how people that have never played sports in life get to make professional sports games is how this happens EVERY year

Really did feel like a different game. Animations seem more realistic than the PS4 version. You feel every tackle through the new DualSense controller. Can't wait to see Madden 22. I can see now why the PS4 version was a copy and paste, spent all their time on this.

This has to be the worse game of all time. It’s time madden stops taking our money for a new roster each year. That’s really all we buy it for because we always expect the same trash of a game with pay to win MUT mode. Franchise mode is terrible as always. The game is broken. No skill or football knowledge needed whatsoever. TRASH. Save your money and DO NOT BUY THIS GAME.

Massive disappointment! Start with the deception of Next Gen stats fueling player movement, or the even the fact that Next Gen stats would be accurately describing what happened on a play. For example when you get the MPH stat overlay it is either 20.2, 20.4, or 21.1 MPH it is not actually recording the speed of the player, but instead just trying to trick you into thinking it is. For example when you get the MPH stat overlay it is either 20.2, 20.4, or 21.1 MPH it is not actually recording the speed of the player, but instead just trying to trick you into thinking it is. An 82 SPD TE can have the same top speed on a short out route as a 96 WR on a break away crossing route. So there is no point to their biggest advertised improvement.
Zoomed in graphics are better but zoomed out like when you are actually playing it doesn't look much different and player's bodies still do not look like real player's bodies.

Sidelines, are only a tiny bit better than previous Gen which was another heavily advertised "improvement". First they added a handful of high detailed real players to the sidelines but there are also still the Sega Genesis looking low poly guys mixed in. Second, they do not react much at all to the play like we were told they would. Third, they wear their helmets the entire time and stand right on the sideline like zombies, look at an NFL sideline, this is not what it looks like.

With these falsely advertised features being so underwhelming I thought at the very minimum they could have changed the menu's, home screen, intros, anything like that to at least make it feel like a slightly upgraded product, but no there is absolutely zero changes.

Franchise mode, exactly the same missing, create a team, missing assistant coaches, missing the ability to change rules, manage injuries, "start today", feel or see what is happening around the league, undo strange retirements, scout a prospect by playing with him in a combine or practice, etc. etc. etc. etc. all thing in other franchise modes.

The only boost is that this "upgrade" was free for PS4 owners but wow, instead of being just bummed out and dissatisfied, I would have been angry had I held out about the "next gen" for $70.

Madden 21 Next Gen is simply a let down.

Same problems as the ps4 version with even more bugs. Drops zones are unrealistic and AI doesn’t respond when a player enters their zone which leaves a receiver wide open and impossible to cover the whole field. I'm not an EA Sports/Madden hater but I stopped buying Madden in 2004 when I first started noticing the difference in quality between EA and what other companies would release in sports videogame software. I keep up with the game however by playing it on other people's consoles, just so I don't have to use my own money. I'm also a software developer myself, which likely makes me a little more understanding of what developers go through on an annual basis and to what possibly could be going on behind closed doors at EA. However, what the NFL needs to know and start paying attention to, is that there should be no excuses behind poor customer reviews towards the company that’s simulating the world’s number one sport game. I’ll retract the word “simulating,” because though Madden demonstrates amazing visuals and overlay graphics (basically all the stuff that makes the game look pretty on the surface), the player movements, player-models, and play-model animations are two generations behind what should be considered “simulation football.”
The people have spoken and we're very upset and unsatisfied with the software development of this product and how this product is still lightyears behind games like All Pro 2K8, which was a game that was released almost two decades ago.
Of course, all this is contrary to what Madden marketing may advertise. They’ve told the world that their game is cutting edge like never before. They’ve told us that what we need to look forward to are things like Nex-Gen stats, replays, vibrating controllers, and other things that are hardly matrix for their fans and customers to judge them on, other than just take their word that those things are “In The Game.” But what we want are noticeable leaps forward in product development, similar to what fans are getting behind titles like Demon Souls and NBA 2k21 (Nex-Gen). But what Madden gamers have to look forward to year after year is a product that looks and feels like it did back in 2006 – a product’s that’s always going to look pretty, but play ugly. My best example is this: it’s like a Ferrari with a Honda Civic engine in it.
NFL, if you do not start micro-managing Electronic Arts on their yearly releases (and hiring real people who understand what gamers want and what’s up-to-par with where other games are in the industry), then this company will begin to misrepresent what The Shield (the NFL) is all about, and that’s integrity and quality; both of which is not what EA Sports represents. We do not want an animation-base videogame anymore. We want the mechanics of 2K integrated into our sports games. We want realism. We want simulation football. We want Electronic Arts to at least share the license agreement with other companies like 2K. If not, then more people will begin to no longer support and/or purchase this poor product. Things will begin to happen similar to what happened with EA's NBA product. But because you give them the exclusive license deal, you give them an excuse to lag behind what the videogame industry will always consider nex-gen, and you'll enable them to continue to drag their feet behind what a true NFL Simulation Football game "could" be like.

The Next-Gen Stats is great at first glance but feels too repetitive after a while. The second upgrade is the in-game player movement that was recorded due to players wearing tracking devices while on the field so that their video game counterparts move more accurately. This is a nice feature and the game play does feel better with this addition. The rest of the game is exactly the same as it's last generation counterpart no upgraded Franchise Mode, which has been an issue for years now. The best way I would describe this game is that it doesn't feel like a next-gen game, but more of a half-generation upgrade more or less like upgrading to a PlayStation 4 Pro from PlayStation 4. I held off buying Madden at launch this year because previous installments weren't good especially at launch. So after several months I finally bought it around NFL playoff time because I love the game of football. And to say this game is bad is and understatement. The game was riddled with silly glitches at launch from what I saw online and even now their are some glitches but besides that it's simply not a fun game. One of the best features added to the game in Madden 20 was the being able to "pull down and run" with the QB behind the line of scrimmage. Now suspiciously that feature is gone? No mention of it really besides some random Madden faq forum. And don't even get me started on the severely and I mean SERVERELY underdeveloped franchise mode. Devs have suck to new lows with this trash. Buggier and glitchier than all hell. This series has been on a serious decline for the last ten years. I didn't care too much about buying a new one every year when it was some solid gameplay, but the devs are so lazy and clearly don't care at all anymore. They just want to milk us fans. Thanks Obama!

Not the greatest Madden, that's for sure. Can be buggy at times. The gameplay mechanics are still Madden though, it's playable and can be fun occasionally. Graphics are solid and football looks good in next-gen.

Madden 21 on PS5 exceeds my expectations. As someone who plays Madden every single year, that says a lot. If you already bought the PS4 or Xbox One version of the game, dual-entitlement will allow you to snag the next-gen version for free. It’s well in your best interest to do so with your brand-spankin'-new next-gen console.

Madden NFL 21 on next-gen consoles is undoubtedly an upgraded version of the previous generation, but it doesn’t make leaps and bounds to reinvent the franchise. Even though there are improved visuals and EA Tiburon implemented Next Gen stats, this still feels like Madden. A lot of the legacy issues are still here, but aren’t as apparent. When you have a series that thrives on eSports, it’s difficult to switch the formula. The controller feedback from the DualSense is the bright spot of the experience, but the visuals were already good on last gen and just get a further polish here. You’ll encounter changes you appreciate piece-by-piece, but when you finish a game, you’ll feel that it’s still just Madden.

Madden NFL 21 has all the same problems as its PS4 predecessor, because it’s basically the same game. The presentation has taken a half-step forward owing to the increase of hardware power, but it’s many yards behind the standard now set by FIFA 21 and NBA 2K21. The increased loading times improve the flow of modes like Ultimate Team, and the gameplay is marginally more authentic thanks to the implementation Next Gen Stats, but an ageing Franchise mode and some tired animations mean this is hardly the improvement fans anticipated.
