You literally have a passionate fan base that invested their hard-earned money on your title for DECADES and we've been BEGGING EA to bring back    Only 5,000 characters?     Number 1, and most importantly- FRANCHISE MODE. You literally have a passionate fan base that invested their hard-earned money on your title for DECADES and we've been BEGGING EA to bring back features within that mode that made us fall in love with the game and continue our unreciprocated loyalty despite our pleas to improve franchise mode falling on deaf ears.

    Secondly, your launch was absolutely abysmal. I finally invested in MUT packs to stay competitive for once to get the best experience, and you FAILED. MiSERABLY. The one mode you pander to you can't even get right.

    Thirdly- what the hell is this Yard crap? It's atrocious. Your moms should slap you for investing all these "resources" you evidently don't have to improve Franchise mode and allocating them to this awful, unplayable, unfun, and unrealistic "simulation". EA has an exclusivity deal with the No Fun League to create a simulated experience, no? Where is this supposed "simulation"? I'll tell you where it isn't- it isn't in the mechanics, game play experience, or anywhere in MUT, the yard, or the hellscape that is your replacement of the already cringeworthy Story Mode.

    I'm wasting my time. If I could give this a -10, I'd give it a -100.

    Game is the exact same with minor differences. Still so many glitches, not a finished product at all. The fact that they get away with this every year is despicable. I wanna see a lot more changes every year (10 times what we are getting now). Literally a group of 10 people can to all they've done in about a month.

    Disgustingly bad. I've played a mobile game for 1 dollar better than this piece of crap. Waste of money. Even the 5 bucks for the trial wasn't worth it. Franchise is untouched as always. Buggy as hell. Don't buy this ass game.

AI is atrocious and game takes away the user control and physics that they promote for animations that literally defy physics a large amount of the time. They hold a monopoly on the NFL simulation, yet refuse to make a simulation game mode. The offline game play is lagging. This is the worse I have ever seen madden. While it does feel smoother than 20, all the bugs is unforgiving to the gameplay.… Expand

    EA honestly has run out of excuses at this point. It is an atrocious game preying on kids and dumb adults with its Ultimate Team and The Yard modes. The gameplay is awful and the features we used to have in the PS2, Xbox, GameCube days are still not in the game after 10+ years. I think I will stick to Madden 06. Do not buy.

    The gameplay is next to parallel with the old game, nothing has changed at all except a pass rush move. The franchise mode didn't change at all despite begging from fans, yet they did nothing. All they did was change up face of the franchise, and add the yard, which seems like a copy of the park idea in the 2k series, just changed to fit a football game. just bad.

    Madden 21 is a poor, lazy, and downright awful excuse of a “simulation football game” made in 2020. Gameplay: A copy and paste of the already mediocre Madden 20 gameplay. Unrealistic blocking. Still too many QB fumbles. Bad CBs making one handed spectacular INTs with ease in jump balls against star WRs. Clipping is a bigger issue than it has been in past Madden games. The FIRST pass play of my game, the nose tackle’s head goes through my lineman’s head. Frame Rate drops during field goals and kickoffs, messing up crucial moments when I’m attempting game winning field goals. It is worse than past Maddens. For a game made in 2020, there is no excuse to have gameplay this bad. 1/10

    Presentation: Awful. Downright embarrassing for a “simulation football game” made in 2020. NFL 2K5 has better presentation than a game made 15 years later. Commentary is exactly the same as last Madden, and the Madden before that, and the Madden before that. Lazy and boring. Pre game is downright laughable. Players jumping up and down before running out of bland, copy and paste tunnels, just like Madden 20. Halftime show is non-existent. Post game is copy and paste. Lazy. Lazy. Lazy. The severe lack of presentation ruins an already awful game. 1/10

    Game Modes:

    Franchise: Hahahahahahaha. It’s Madden 20! No but seriously, franchise mode is once again neglected, features that should be there (that have been on past Maddens) are not there. Copy and paste. Lazy. Lazy. Lazy. Madden 20, excuse me, I meant Madden 21, is lightyears behind other sports simulation games like NBA 2K and MLB: The Show when it comes to its Franchise mode. Downright pathetic EA. 0/10

    The Career Mode: Pathetic. Lazy. It feels like there’s a theme with this. The worst story of any sports career mode I have EVER played. Terrible writing and voice acting. Cheap cutscenes with PS3/360 like graphics. Unrealistic high school setting. The guys on the high school field look exactly like guys on an NFL field with beards and similar builds. The characters are one dimensional, there’s no connection, no feeling throughout the story. The linear story mode is a joke. You can make ZERO completions, running the ball back into the end zone for a safety on EVERY play, and you still get offers from D1 schools like you are a star. Lazy. Lazy. Lazy. College is boring, there’s no college atmosphere, nothing that makes it different from an NFL atmosphere. Once you get to the NFL, the career paths that Madden gives you are uncomfortable and just downright disappointing. Everything about this career mode is just sad for a game made in 2020. 2/10.

    The Yard: The new, fresh game mode that EA hyped up going into this year’s mode. While admittedly fun for a little bit, after playing for a while, you start to notice the lack of depth in the mode. The bad gameplay of Madden in general sadly affects the Yard. EA once again ruins another game mode with microtransactions. While better than Franchise and the Career mode, it’s still bland, lacking the depth of a game mode like NBA 2K’s MyPark. 4/10

    Conclusion: Something’s got to give people. For a game made in 2020, it lacks almost everything that makes a solid sports game, a solid video game even. It’s lazy, boring, at times downright laughable and shameful, and just... bad. People, please. Don’t waste another $60 on this poor excuse of a “simulation football game”. You are better off playing Madden 20, which is exactly like Madden 21, or NFL 2K5, which is game made in 2004 that has better quality presentation and gameplay than Madden 21. Do not buy this game.     Welcome to Madden 20.5 and they almost got the roster update right. Same recycled features that they removed and put back in from older Madden games that nobody cared about while ignoring every single request from fans. Franchise mode got a updated UI screen....and that's it. Don't buy this game if you own Madden 20.

    Another year and another bad madden game from EA. They refuse to fix all the bugs, or determined animations and franchise mode had become a total joke. The whole reason I used to play madden was for franchise mode.

    I’ll sum it up like this: This game is a buggy disaster. They changed nothing. The only thing they added was the yard mode, which is not worth the price tag of the game. Franchise, face of the franchise and everything else is the damn same. And keep in mind, while all this is happening, EA makes billions of dollars of of the ultimate team. This is why we get the same damn game every year.

    This game is disappointing. I have ran into many in game glitches with the environment and mechanics. The UI included multiple mispellings and some of the properties were just copied and photo shopped from previous years. Face of the franchise feels boring. Bugs that existed in the last madden made it into this one because apparently the developers just ctrl+C and ctrl+V from one year to the next.     The gameplay, the menus, the announcing, it’s all the same but yet somehow worse. The UI is slower than I’ve ever interacted with, players missing assignments on the field, blocking is atrocious. Avoid this game at any cost you can, if it’s in the bargain bin for $5 I say it’s fine, other than that save your hard earned money.

    Glad I only rented this one. It's the same exact game as last year but more glitchy (didn't know that was even possible). Franchise mode has not changed for years and is still missing features we had on PS2! I really don't understand what EA is doing with this franchise or why the NFL let's them get away with it year after year. Something needs to change.

The Yard is a lame attempt to combat 2K’s upcoming game and don’t even get me started on franchise mode. How the hell does Madden 08 have a more in-depth franchise than Madden 21? Ridiculous. This game is a shell of its former self on life support. For years important core features have been removed from the simulation experience EA has the exclusive contract to deliver in favor of microtransactions.

    I'm personally of the opinion this game will not be quality until two dominoes fall, both pertaining to franchise mode, the simulation game mode only EA can make. First, full team staffs need added. This game has head coaches and owners. That's it. We need full front offices with rated owners, general managers, and scouting departments. We need full coaching staffs with rated offensive, defensive, and special teams coordinators. Position coaches would be nice, but everything just mentioned prior are in other sport video games. There's no excuse for them to not be in Madden. Second, Madden needs to add compensatory picks. This is tied for my most important domino because this is essential for other features to work functionally. Trade logic, free agency, meaningful scouting, and draft class depth will never be correct until compensatory picks are added to the game. Baseball has arbitration, in their video game. Basketball has bird rights, in their video game. A simulation football experience needs compensatory picks. It doesn't even need to be perfect as compensatory picks are commonly a guessing game, but they impact so much that it cannot be excluded from the simulation experience franchise mode. We are always missing an entire round of players being drafted without them just for starters.

    Scouting needs completely overhauled. Knowing the top three attributes of players and their combine isn't enough. Partner with The Draft Network, ESPN, NFL Network, and Bleacher Report. Have each of them provide scouting reports for each player so we can see multiple opinions on the same player. Then give us a full combine experience where we can question players individually to learn about their character. Character then fits with team culture and chemistry. This paragraph alone should tell you how much immersion is missing from the game.

    Gameplay is also terrible. It is animation based and ridiculously holographic. Players are commonly going through players; the ball constantly goes through players. The OL has no logic and sense of creating a pocket. Referees don't exist, they do in NBA and MLB video games. MLB even includes calling tendencies. Madden doesn't even have defensive holding, one of the most commonly flagged penalties in the NFL, in their game. Give us rated zebra crews with their flag throwing tendencies and accuracy. Give us replays of the penalty with commentary on if they got it correct. Challenges are also pointless. The game needs to give us a menu of what we're challenging. That's just the tip of the iceberg for gameplay issues.

    I don't play MUT because it promotes children gambling. I'm not qualified to review it, but I hear it is also a copy and paste from last season.

    Madden added They Yard, an arcade mode that adds additional revenue streams for EA through microtransactions. While this mode has plenty of potential to become something awesome, this was not the year to add a new mode.

    The main consumer fan base for Madden is their franchise players. For years, we fans have been asking for so many features. This review by no means includes everything Madden needs to add to its simulation football experience or needs to improve about its gameplay. I could write an entire thesis paper of ways to improve this game.

    Final lines: Madden is a shell of its former self. It's a good to great arcade game, but EA has the exclusive rights to deliver a simulation experience. Imagine you or I as a person hiring an interior designer, which EA is. You hire them to create a nursery room. They give you an arcade room decked out with games requiring coins to play that designer EA continues to profit on. If that happened, the designer would get an awful review and should be fired. That's what Madden is and why they are being deservedly slammed with negative reviews, including this one. I recommend boycotting this game until the executives at EA step back and let the developers create the simulation experience EA used to deliver decently well in the once great Madden game. This game spits on everything John Madden stood for when he agreed to let his name be used for the game. EA should be ashamed. Hopefully they listen for Madden 22. To quote the judge in Billy Madison, I award them 0 points, and may God have mercy on the souls of the executives at EA who dictate what is developed in Madden.    … Expand

    Madden NFL 21 is another blatant recycling of last year’s edition of the „simulation“ of the American football. Sadly, most of the modes remained the same. Gameplay received a few minor tweaks, and in the end it still persists as a cash grab not worth anybody’s time.
