If I were to present a game that promised to be a semi-MMO with Halo/Borderlands components, most would be salivating over this project and ready to lay down the money to make someone very, very rich. Unfortunately, Destiny only gives the illusion of having these components and doesn't deliver them very well.

There is nothing new and groundbreaking in the FPS aspect of this game - in fact, most of the guns feel like recycled CoD guns with a sci-fi skin. This is disappointing after the variety of guns that the Halo universe introduced (Bungie made a lot of guns for this game, but too many feel and work exactly the same). Loot is not very well fleshed out for a game that promised to bring loot a new importance. Even uncommon, rare, and legendary loot don't push any new boundaries or mechanics - they work and feel very similar to the common loot drops in the world.

While the maps look great and the graphics are beautiful, the worlds just don't feel very interesting or inspired. Multiplayer is a mess - no matchmaking is a real problem. Bungie wants you team up with friends, which is great - when everyone's schedules are able to be worked out. But what about those times when I just want to tackle some bosses or harder content without a friend online? The Crucible PvP is fun at its core, but after playing a few matches it's quickly realized that there is very little depth to it. The story is not the highlight here, but having said that, I'm really unsure what the highlight of this game really is. The marketing, perhaps?

But, I don't see what is so game-changing about Destiny. Now, I haven't played Destiny, but unlike most people, I'm not here to bash the game. From what I've seen, Destiny looks like just another FPS on the shelves.
I plan on buying a PS4 at some point in the future, and when I do, I'll pick up Destiny, so this review might change once I get Destiny, but for now, I'm going to give Destiny a 4 out of 10 because - I need to be online to play the singleplayer campaign? Really, Bungie?

I see a lot of early reviews by big sites pulling punches, they shouldn't. Destiny is about as much fun as taking a nun to a strip club. This game is THE MOST linear, unimaginative game I've ever played. It lacks cohesion, any sense of depth or identity and takes repetition to a whole new level. It is an ugly pig with lipstick. I've seen better A.I. on my PS2, hell my smart phone...

For those of us who don't have 29 million friends, or the time to try to pursue them if we did, this is about as much fun as a finding a toenail in your soup.

Sadly, this game is yet another colossal waste of money. I'll just tell myself I went to dinner with the wife and kids and spend my gaming time replaying titles that hit every mark this gamed missed. Shouldn't be hard to find one in my library as this seems to have missed them ALL.

I give it a 1 out of pity for the underpaid coder.

Soo what you get is a company that made a game that is not good at either, kinda like those movies/shows that are comedies with too much drama and dramas with too much satire--you're left with an unbalanced and confused product. That's Destiny. It didn't have the balls to just come out and say "ITS HALO LITE!" but it also didn't have enough creativity to make it something innovative or narrative-driven.

    Pros:

    Looks pretty

    Cons: Everything else. Really.

    No 60fps

    No online chat

    No single player campaign

    Not open world. Bland maps.

Atrocious AI. DayZ bad. For real.

    Forgettable story and characters.

    Weak customization

    Super low level cap.

This game doesn't know what it wants to be. It clearly has dollar signs in its eyes as it shamelessly attempts to cover all its bases (genre-speaking) but bc it decided not to stick to something singular what we have is a soulless hodgepodge of restricted MP, no solo campaign, and direction and identity-free gameplay that is more of a chore than anything else.

Still waiting for Mass Effect and Fallout. Those guys do it right (especially Fallout)

Non-existent plot, poor enemy AI, boring to death.

The game has good mechanics and is pretty, but overall is boring, repetitive, lifeless and offers nothing new to the genre. Not only that but the developer has the nerve to tell us that the game and fun doesn't really start until you hit the level cap.

I would be more forgiving if quest varied more in objectives, but they don't. Go here, defeat wave, push forward, defeat second wave, then go here. The content with each class is shallow, nothing really stands out to being unique. The only thing I'll give Destiny is how the sparrows help with getting around & their ease of control, one thing bungie got right. The ending was probably the biggest insult & the most anti-climactic that I've played in a long time. I wouldn't recommend to anyone unless you're craving Halo. Expand

Unbelievably boring and repetitive campaign AND PvP multiplayer. Do not buy this over-hyped bloated mess, no I'm not talking about my wife still.

    Where's the gun customisation?
Why do the controls feel like they are constantly angry at you and insist on fighting against your every command?
Where's the reason to even play this?
    Why did idiots pre-order this?
Why is it a multiplayer game and there isn't really any decent multiplayer?
Why am I sat in loading screens more than in the game? Doesn't the PS4 have 8 gig of RAM?

Waste of time and space, no pun intended.

    - half assed story - these are the people who developed the Halo universe, which is pretty rich. But apparently they invested no more than a total of $10 into a decent story. Any teenager with a laptop can do better than this - they didn't even try. No answers or info is really given in the game, and 99% of the background info is not in-game but in the 'grimoire cards' on their website. WTF? Imagine if Mass Effect had had zero info on the Turians, Asari, Hanar, or any other species and just had a generic enemy called the 'Darkness'. That would be Destiny's story.
    - sucky endgame. After beating the story, what is there to do? The same 5 or 6 strikes over and over and over and over, and over and over again? Talk about boring. Then there are these big, bad 'raids'. Sounds cool right? Finally can play with a part of more than 3 people (seriously, Borderlands managed 4 person teams last gen for god's sake). But wait! No matchmaking! So if you do not have 6 friends with this game on at the same time, there's no playing the raids - which makes them entirely useless.
    - unbalanced multiplayer. Wow is the multiplayer disappointing. None of the maps really seem all that different from each other. Guardian abilities badly unbalance the gameplay and vehicles have no counter measures (unlike in Halo). As soon as Halo MCC hits in November, no way I'd ever consider going back to Destiny's multiplayer.

Overall, very disappointing. At least Bungie taught me a lesson - *never* buy the $100 special edition of the first game in a new franchise. I cannot believe I spent that much on a game that I got less than 10 hours of gameplay in. Ugh

There are only a few things that i feel they should change. One, they need to allow in game audio settings. Some people don't enjoy hearing music when in a gun fight and some people just would like it turned down a bit. As of right now, if you are using in game chat and are also part of a fire team it is very hard to hear your buddies talking while you are shooting things up. I had to invite him to a party chat so that we could turn the chat up and the game down. Another thing is that it doesn't feel very social. While out in the field it is hard to interact with other people. You can't chat with them if you aren't in a fire team and there is no chat bubble you can use to message them quickly. Most people don't even interact with you, they just walk on by. Just so you know, this game is not very fun playing by yourself. I purposefully waited to find some one doing the same mission as me so i could join them. We ended up going from level 4 to level 10. And we became friends. Once i was partied up is was very fun. There needs to be some way to communicate with everyone playing on the same map as you and also needs to be a way to communicate with everyone in the tower with you. Proximity chat would also be nice. Once this is added it will be very easy to join up with people. There should also be some type of guild that you can join so you can connect with many people. But mind you, this is the early stage of an mmo that looks as if it will have a lot added to the game over the years. Expand

Destiny, at its core, is wonderful. However, it's dragged down a good bit by quality of life issues, as well as a slightly lacking story.

    Pros:
+ The gameplay is lovely. It's smooth, paced well, and doesn't feel repetitive.
+ The three classes and multiple weapon types all feel different, yet everything seems extremely balanced. That, my friends, is not easy to pull off. Way to go, Bungie!
+ There aren't ten million statistics. It's easy to understand. However, there's enough there for min/maxers to still have fun min/maxing.
    + The graphics are great.
+ The music gives me goosebumps.
+ This game made me like PvE again. The AI is actually fun to fight, unlike the AI in 75%+ of other games.
+ PvP feels engaging. It doesn't feel like a regular shooter, thanks to the class abilities and weapon types. You can also get some cool loot from it! The RNG aspect of it is great!
+ The game gives you plenty of things to do. It may be considered a "grind" by some people, but it doesn't really feel that way to me.
+ Melee is actually fun. It feels truly powerful.

    Cons:
    - It'd be nice if there were some more players in the maps.
    - An easy way to friend/team up with random people would be great.
    - Some form of voice communication would also be great.
    - The story does feel a bit lacking, even though the premise is cool.
    - There is currently no way to customize your appearance after character creation.

I feel slightly mislead on the scale of the game (size not player count) and also I think they need to work on some things. For one is balance. The Crucible feels like some people are way too overpowered. This is mostly due to the powers / abilities of the classes. I wish that the Crucible relied on traditional loadouts, with only certain modes allowing you to use equipment you've acquired in the story mode. Also it feels like this game will get boring after you beat it. Yes Bungie has talked about post-game raids and stuff, but aside from grinding to get more loot, it seems like there isn't really a lot to do. I think in my head I overhyped this game. I played the game multiple times before it released. I played in Alpha AND Beta on PS4, and also in Beta on the Xbox One, which is the system I bought it for. The game has some of the highest production quality I've ever seen. The way everything acts and reacts is simply amazing. However, the content seems to be an issue to me but this won't bother some people. Visually, this is a stunner, more so than anything I have currently played outside of the PC world.

    The soundtrack is beautiful.

The story definitely felt incomplete, which is saddening because I only became interested in it part way through.

The Strikes are fun and the boss fights are as any boss fight is, a challenge the first time through.

Otherwise you're hitting standard MMO fare with daily missions, bounties, daily/weekly heroics, events, rep farming and pvp.

Is it the second coming of gaming? No, there isn't a game out there that can do that. It does stand on its own two feet as a great game to play. For those of you who decide on whether or not to play a game on other peoples opinions, you're selling yourself short, form your own opinion on it. Make a character on a friends account and test the waters.

The only game in the world that deserves a 3 or lower was flappy bird, anything else is filled with personal butthurt.

The loot is few and far between, the progression is linear and basic, and you can't communicate with anyone you see unless you party up with them (limited to 3!).

I think all of that may have been less troublesome if it had been tied together with a Halo-esque story but that is conspicuously missing as well. The game does deserve a 7 since it's an average shooter otherwise but I am very disappointed that Destiny didn't manage to deliver the incredible new experience I was hoping for.

The gun play feels good and the environments look great. There is backtracking to be done but that doesn't really bother me since i've done it in plenty of other games and still had a good time. The user score on meteoritic has basically boiled down to the "0's"vs "10's". Each trying to counter the others low/scores.
If your interested in the game see for yourself what its like through a rental or borrow it from a friend. Thats common sense for any game that costs you $60 + tax. As for me, I like the game and look forward to what will be coming out for it later. Relax and Have fun.

    The good:

    - This one is personal to me : I feel that the game is to casual-oriented. ( see : rewards in PvP are random instead of rewarding those who carried the team )

Overall I feel the game is decent and I'm having a good time on it. But Bungie will have to change a lot to make it last, otherwise the game will be dead in a few months.

It is a fun shooter with some interesting abilities that makes for a more entertaining experience. I enjoy that their are some aspects of leveling that make endgame material and play more fun. The multiplayer portion is also great fun (though I'm not a huge PVP style player, so it can also be frustrating). I find the game pretty fun by myself, and even more so when playing with others. A good mixture of single player, PVE and PVP make for a game that can be fun for many players. Everyone has their playing styles however so this game can be more fun for some than others.

    Cons:
Like most shooters, most MMOs, and most games you play in general, this game does become repetitive. The general nature of this game being a mixture of FPS and MMO makes it feel even more so. The story isn't a focus while playing, so you don't get drawn into it making the game feel more like a grind.

Overall, I've enjoyed the game quite a bit. I didn't expect much of a story after playing the beta, so I knew what I was getting into. If they made the story draw you in (or even made the "quests" more a part of the story), this game would be great. The lack of story and the feel of grinding after a few hours dulls the experience.

Was this game over-hyped? Maybe a bit. But that doesn't stop it from being any more or less worth playing. From launch the primary modes were "Run & Gun" and "Run & Gun PVP", but now we're seeing more raids, challenges, and things we couldn't have expected from day one. The beautiful worlds and challenging game play are the saving grace of this great title.

But at the moment the plot is quite common and forgettable.
The gameplay is easy to manage and fun to play, (we didn't expect less from the creators of Halo) and every FPS users will master it pretty quickly. The graphics are great (specially the light effects), so are the OST and artistic direction (i pictured the Moon exactly the same way it is in Destiny).
Now to the bad points , if you play all the campaign you will have the impression to do the same mission again and again in different locations (except one little phase) and that can be boring especially if you don't play with friends (if you are there is always the thrill of being part of a team to spice the experience). The level-up system is a bit strange once you reach level 20 and it will depend of your luck in looting Legendary items, maybe i just have to get use to it but for the moment it bothers a me a little (you kill bosses and don't gain XP, it feels wrong to me). And finally the PvP mode is really horrible for newcomers, there is absolutely none balancing, if your opponents are 10 levels above yours they'll probably kill you in one shot while you'll have to empty your mag on them in the hope of killing them. Once you're in the big levels it's the most classic PvP you can encounter.

Despite those huge flaws i had fun playing Destiny (especially with friends) and that's why i'm not giving a bad mark. In the hope that future DLCs will really improve the solo experience and be affordable.

I really wanted to like this game but it's impossible between the repetitiveness, boring multiplayer, and barebones story. This game does not push any boundaries, it holds back content to be sold as DLC, and end game consists of either playing through missions you have done numerous times already, playing one of the two raids (yes there are only two raids in this game, which is unacceptable especially considering what Bungie was promising and hyping to its fans,) and lastly there is the (boring) multiplayer.

I get the appeal of Destiny to the younger crowd as kids can practically do the same thing over and over without missing beat and I'm pretty sure the entire fanbase of Destiny consists of tweens. If you were born in the 20th century though chances are you, like me, cannot be bothered to play through a game that makes *everything* a chore. That's exactly how I would describe this game: a chore.

While do admit there is fun to be had if you play with friends (you have fun with friends regardless,) the single player aspect of this game is just horrible. The story? I can summarize it all in a sentence. You get awoken from a deep sleep in the middle of nowhere by a Dinklebot, you get attacked by generic sci-fi alien race, you go to generic sci-fi homeworld, you meet generic sci-fi wise old guy, you get sent on a generic quest across the galaxy for... what exactly? And why?? I seriously don't know... I've played through the "story" on 3 characters already and I still don't know what the story is to be honest. There is literally only 4 characters in this game and NONE of them are memorable: Old Guy at Tower, Robot Chick that Stalks You, The Queen and her dick brother.

So you ask why my review is negative? This game deserves no merits or praise as it's just another disappointment of 2014. Trust me on this one, don't waste your money or your time. I

I started playing FPS games back in Duke Nukem, followed by unreal, halo, tribes, call of duty and so on. Been around a LONG time playing these types of games. Was never the greatest at any of them but enjoyed them all. That brings me to this disaster.

This is the single biggest disaster I have ever played on ANY platform. First time in my life I wish I could return a game. I always figure that not everything is for everybody so if I bought a game and didn't like it, I would just move on. Until this garbage.....

This trash is nothing but frustration and confusion with a side of anger. No walk through to actually tell you what's going on. Storyline is well... I don't know what the story is. Gameplay consists of wandering around trying to figure out what the heck your suppose to do and some shooting at things for reasons I have yet to understand. No clue what the objectives are, how to level, how to progress or any understanding what the point of this "game" is.

If you are unfortunate enough to buy this garbage, try and find a HUGE guide to help you. I have played for a few hours and literally have no clue how or why to do a single thing. News flash for devs... Confusion is not fun and games are suppose to be fun. A guide should be used as a reference not as a step by step instruction on what to do and that's what you need to figure this out. Complete failure of a game.

I'm sure that once you figure this out that is ok but to play (feels like work) for hours and to still have no clue about ANYTHING? Well that's just a failure by the devs.

On another note, I went on their website to get help and their website is as awful as their game. Couldn't find any help what so ever! They don't even give you a way to contact them. No working email or anything. It's like they new they were putting out a game that was going to ANGER the FPS community and they didn't want to have to deal with it.

Best review I can give is..... Incomplete. I can't effectively review a game that I can't figure out. Complete failure! I'm offended I spent money on this and if I had the option I would return it with a smile and never look back. Never felt like this with any game in my long life.

Then, the future DLCs that are NOT included with the expansion pass cost a whopping 40$! The entire game with all DLCs bought costs HUNDREDS of dollars all of which are wasted by how much of a failure this game is. The game is not innovative at all and is filled with the most bland and repetitive game play. There is hardly any story at all whatsoever, the loot system is 100% RNG (random number generator), and is hardly acceptable as a MMO. There are huge and painful limits as to how many players can do a mission. Now to the weapons (sorry if you don't understand this). The weapons in this game are a creative idea, but all the creativity is lost when you find out that the higher level weapons are just re-skins of the lower level ones. Also, the exotics in the game are the hardest weapons to get which means they should be OP, but people kept complaining at how OP they were so they got nerfed and are rendered useless. People claim the game is getting better with the DLCs that are being released, but it really just adds to the repetitive mess of doing the same thing over and over and over again 1000 time sin one week. Over all, the game is an absolute effortless waste of time and money. I personally spent a lot of time on this game looking for something good about it, but I couldn't find anything. Not that any of your exploits matter , with no leaderboard and randomly generated rewards it really doesnt matter how you perform..! Its great! After a while you just stop caring wether you lose or not.

The story is fun to play but the story itself is lackluster and wayyyyy too short to be an rpg.. It's the length of a borderlands Dlc.

After a while you unlock the strike missions , where the true potential of the game starts to show.. Teamwork is mandatory and you are matchmade to other Destiny-players. Too bad they didnt include this for story missions though, you can only invite people to join you in those (wtf?) .. Next to that there are a mere 4 different missions who , encouraged by bounties and your will to grind for better gear, you will be playing over and over again..
The raid mission however is even better .. Adding puzzles and longer boss and subbossfights to the mix.. You are allowed a team of 6 in here .. No matchmaking though , only friends/clanmembers can be invited ( to start or join a clan you need to get a pc for some misguided reason).

The weapons seem fun but most are irrelevant in multiplayer and the damage notation is downright stupid.. Apparantly all the best guns have a damage rating of maximum 300. Wether they be shotguns, autorifles or sniper rifles.. There is most certainly a huge difference in actual damage but to experience that you just need to head out and see, the infosection of the guns is just , well, bad.

Its most certainly a fun game , especially with friends but there is so so much bringing this game down I sometimes just switch it off cursing.

First of all I really don't understand all the fuss and inaccurate ratings for this game. No game ever deserves a "0" and no game can ever reach perfection of 10.

Before playing the game I watched several streams of the gameplay and I have taken people's opinion while they play in order to form a understand of how this game would play out. And confirm for myself whether what they had said were true. And right before I started the game, I wanted to just hop off the hype train and let myself into a unbiased mind set.

With that said, I loaded the game and here is my thought on it:

The game introduces it's self in the beginning with some cut scenes which were really ambiguous and interesting and set a really mysterious and adventurous mood for us. It delivered the impression that was what they had advertised and demo'd during game shows like E3. And It made me expect things like vast areas on Earth that you can explore. But it's really sad because shortly I discovered the "vast" world of Destiny is actually as linear as the typical dungeon runner, absolutely nothing like Assassin's Creed or GTA. Personally, I was a tad bit disappointed but it didn't end there. The game is played in linear levels where exploration is almost out of the question considering how small the map is. Plus from level 1-10 which accounts for almost a quarter the game, they only introduce 2 factions which has as little as 5 different units per faction and it could have been okay with such level of variation of mobs had they been interesting, but it's so sad to see how stupid the AI is in this game. And then there is the story, I love Peter Dinklage from the game of the throne and it's not his voice but I found his story telling abilities a bit weak as well as the script that he was given. Coming from a triple A title you'd expect the story line to be close to the quality that games like Mass Effect of Halo has to offer but honestly it's like Diablo 3 all over again.

    Summary of Cons:

    -Linear game play
    -Extremely weak story line
    -Grindy
    -Horrible implementation of social interations
-Uninteresting mobs (Knights, Wizards, Apostate seriously?)

Other than that, you can clearly tell how much effort they put into the character movement and abilities. I love their character and class designs they really blend nicely to the Destiny universe. Every character looks fantastic and unique yet not overboard. There aren't many variations of weapons comparing to Borderlands but there is a decent amount for the game of this size to keep things interesting. The controls are great, I got used to it minutes after playing maybe it's because the layout is pretty similar to your typical shooter but it worked with the game flawlessly. I also want to point out a couple things I love about multiplayer which is called the Crucible in the game. I have played 2/3 classes and both have been through the crucible and I think they balanced the characters and their abilities really well, nothing is too overpowering, you get to enjoy pvp looking great in the gears that you worked hard for and it all comes down to the skill of the player. I also love the vehicle based pvp map like the one on the moon to spice things up, you get a nice mix of light, heavy and turrets each for a different purpose.

    Summary of Pros:
    -Great Multiplayer
    -Character Design
    -Flawless control
    -Decent blend of weapons

Destiny is a Love AND Hate type of game because it has a lot of potential to be great but too many things were neglected by the developers. I really wish the story was a bit better and the universe was more vast and mysterious filled with interesting things to do. But from the looks of it the developers focused way too much energy on multiplayer than the single story coop which is a bit disappointing.

The feel of the game is quite strong and the controls respond quite well.

PVP is well balanced, which Bungie has always done well with. The only issue is the player limit, especially in the larger maps. Also, only allowing three people in a lobby is a poor decision imo.

PVE is stale for the most part as the AI, in my opinion, is worse than in Halo. Because of that, they rely on giving enemies such as bosses a lot of Health to add to the difficulty. Which can get a tad boring. The quests are downgraded WOW quests – and everyone is over those.
The one thing it achieves in PVE is the sense of drama when you are fighting off hordes with your friends in Strike mode.
So yeah, I guess the game gets boring by yourself, but sometimes I like playing solo as I like to breathe in the atmosphere and environments.
With friends (that have mics) it's extremely fun to play.

Overall weapon selection and appearance is bland with no real variety. So when you finally get that legendary, high powered weapon you don’t have that thought of “wow, this looks so badass”.
The ships that we can buy don't really offer anything to the game. They serve as your online avatar but not as much as your character.

Character creation is very limited, better looking models compared to Skyrim and Mass Effect but not as in-depth as them. Also, you never get to see the high quality face model of your character after the creation screen, and the in game model looks very downgraded.

The loading screens are moderate. They are mostly hidden by your ship flying to the location, but sometimes it can be stuck in a certain scene for way too long. It would have been great for them to expand on the orbit area, where it would serve as another Hub for people to travel through and meet up with other ships/players, then head to the destination (with the massive budget that the developer had I thought this would have been achievable).

    Conclusion
    :
It’s not the best game this year will offer, but it’s not the worst. With the budget in mind, it’s a bit disappointing that all they could offer was a 5 – 6 hour campaign with no real story (as I have heard) and relying on DLC to expand on it doesn't impress me. It seems like they spent most of it on marketing, balancing PVP and bugs. Which is great for quality assurance but all areas should be looked at.
Still pretty fun with friends and that's what counts.

Destiny is the most anticipated game in recent times, with the hype for it being unreal. This also led to it being the most disappointing game in recent times. Let me say this now, Destiny is not a bad game, but it falls short on a LOT of aspects.
    Story
The campaign – what there is of it- was incredibly dull. With missions where you go to point A. Deploy Dinklebot and shoot through three waves of enemy’s. Go to point B and rinse and repeat. Now for the first few hours you can look past this, but you start to quickly realize how boring it is to keep doing this over and over again. Without any real plot to keep you interested in scanning the 50th machine and listening to Dinklebot tell you about more things you have no idea about, the campaign lacks anything worth your time or money.
However the graphics are truly a feat worth mentioning. This is worthy of the title “next-gen” when it comes to the visuals and textures.
    Gameplay
Something Destiny does perfectly is the gameplay. This is how a first person shooter should be played on a console, with every move you make feeling precise and bad ass. With all the different styles of playing, within each class, gives a lot of variety later on down the level progression.
    PVP
This is the main reason I’m still playing Destiny. Although it feels unbalanced at times, with more one-shot mechanics than you can count. There is no denying it has that feeling of pure Halo multiplayer fun. With the ability to ride your sparrow on most maps gameplay feels incredibly quick and you’re never missing out on the action.
    PVE
Strikes are a ridiculous excuse for “MMO Dungeons” most consist of barging through the same waves of enemy’s you spent the past 7 hours killing, to then get to a boss known as the “Bullet Sponge” who will eat your bullets for the next 20 minutes. Without any real tactics other than hide behind cover and poke your head out every time you finish reloading, and trying to deal with the unorganized constant swarm of adds coming your way, strikes feel like a terrible attempt at trying to make a shoot em’ up dungeon.
    Loot
Loot is the main aspect of Destiny, and as an MMO player this is the aspect that excited me the most. The loot system in this game has received a lot of slack for being unforgiving but I don't agree. People are angry over spending ages working hard for an engram to only get a green or a blue when they desperately want a legendary. However, it is clear these people have never played an MMO before. Doing the Siege of Orgrimmar for 7 hours and getting no loot for it is literally hell compared to just shooting in a hole for a few hours to get a bundle of engrams.

All in all Destiny is a solid game with a bright future ahead of it, but because of poor choices and seemingly lazy development from Bungie it does not deserve the hype that surrounded it. It’s just another generic shooter that failed at being unique.

I'm not a big fan of FPS games like this, but I can see this is a very good game. The graphics are gorgeous and there's tons of weapons, armor, and upgrades to find and loot. I break this game out to people unfamiliar with the PS4 to show off the graphics. I think the game deserves a 7, but if you're like me and not into FPS games, I would say it's a 5. Expand

The thing is, I don't think anyone will agree if I told you that Destiny has lived up to the hype. Bungie really fooled some people with this game because it's not really revolutionary or innovative and the statement that each map is bigger than the entirety of a Halo game, is a bid of a red herring as well. In truth each map might be very big compared to a Halo game, but it just doesn't feel that way when every mission on one of the four playable planets uses the same map, in other words, every planet has one area, and you will retread the same ground A LOT. So apparently backtracking is going to be prevalent to any player who wants to try out Destiny but luckily you can look past this issue when the core gameplay is as excellent as it is.

The thing is, Destiny prides itself on co-op gameplay where you'll charge through missions and shoot through hordes of creatures that come from "the Darkness", the game's primary source of evil, and simply put the core mechanics just work very well. It's like playing Firefight in Halo Reach, except you're not just stuck in an arena in Destiny; you actually move from point to point and usually end up in a room with a Boss-like enemy you have to beat in the majority of the game's missions. It has the same variety in enemy types as Halo and you can expect the same level of exellence in the different enemy AIs. You throw a grenade that'll create a field of electric impulses, and the melee-oriented enemies will try to wait it out or take a detour; You shoot a Wizard and remove his shield and he will fly towards the nearest pillar to hide and regain his shield while his minions keep you preoccupied. It's just very well designed and I can happily tell there has not been a single bug-encounter as of yet, at least not one that broke the game for me.

The story is another story though. The game simply doesn't have much of a plot. It seems like Bungie hired a writer who wanted to tell a bigger tale, but then they only gave him 5 or 6 cutscenes to work on so he had to cut out all the substance to his characters and his plot, and in return the game skates very, very lightly over its overarching plot. Chances are, by the end of the story-missions you won't feel moved and you certainly won't feel the sense of epicness the game wants you to feel. It's here that Destiny gives you the sense that it's a game that is sometimes simply checking boxes. It has a great package but the individual bits don't necessarily impress.

For one, the story missions all share the same formula. Go there, wait for Ghost to infiltrate a computer system while you fend off enemies, you reach the "no respawn" zone and kill a boss. This is a pattern throughout the game that is only broken by one mission that has you retrieve a sword which you will then use to singlehandedly swipe through waves of enemies. Even so it's still somewhat part of the same formula. It does help your motivations to complete the story that there are occasionally cutscenes though, but as I said, they are very wishy washy and feel disjointed.

As for the game's other side, the PvP you have a somewhat well-balanced and excellently designed multiplayer component. It's not quite as robust as Halo Reach, but it gets the job done. It even has a unique 3v3 mode where you'll team up with a fireteam (great mode to play with RL friends) where you can revive each other when put down, so you need to make proper teamwork to win it. In all game modes level-advantages are disabled so a level 11 will have a chance against someone who's at the level-cap, but your equipment's skill trees still matter which might make things a bit unbalanced, yet, at the same time it can be a reward for all the hard work you went through to get your high-level loot.

All in all,the game is pretty good, but it's not this huge and groundbreaking world that Bungie initially made me believe. I do not give it a 7 because it didn't live up to the hype though. I give it 7 tops because as it is right now, there's simply too much repitition and a lack of content. I reached the level cap in 2 days, beat the story, all strikes and tried all gamemodes and now I'm working on reaching level 26 through getting "Light" which can raise you above the game's level cap. Unfortunately the game just starts feeling a bit empty from this point and onwards. The core gameplay is excellent but the lack of content and lacklustre mission design drags it down.

But give this game a couple of months and it might prove itself. It had potential to be much better, but at this point I'm writing it off as a missed opportunity that might somehow get a tad better once Bungie adresses some issues.

These two alone is enough for a 6.5 to 7 rating. If it stopped here, it's only fault would be a lack of innovation.

    What needs improvement:
MMO Element - This feels unfinished. The Tower feels barebones and for the amount of loading time it takes to get there for as little as you have to do while you're there, it just doesn't feel seamless enough. And honestly, I would like the option to enter planet mission privately.
Inventory / Loot / Skill System - An interesting start. I can't help comparing to Borderlands or even Diablo, but otherwise I wonder about the real necessity for interchangeable inventory without a more in-depth statistic system to be effected by the inventory you equip. The skills are nice to click on to enable when you level.. but the amount of choice is slim at best. There needs to be more here and the potential is there.

    CONS:
LOADING TIME!! - This is next gen. That's supposed to mean something, yet we are developing increasingly graphically demanding games on consoles that are not coming with solid state drives as stock and with an average user bandwidth of what seems like less than 1MBPS. The loading times are necessary but on the PC, it can and should be better.
CUSTOMIZATION / OPTIONS - I want to be able to play a private campaign. I want to be able to skip cut-scenes!! That is a must! I want more in-depth player armor and ship customization (colors/emblems) This is key stuff for a game that promises big things!

People who rate this game under a 6 are simply bitter about the hype or shouldn't be playing FPS. There is a solid base game that carries over key Halo elements that deserve a 6 to a 7 alone if it didn't innovate beyond that. This is a damn good game! Not yet a great game but just because they didn't get there, don't poop the bed for everyone else.

Destiny is a really good edition to an already acclaimed lineup of games from Bungie. The shooting mechanics could not get any better and are some of the best that I have ever played. The only downfall that I see with Destiny is the story. The story doesn't really suck you in at all and it's a light touch overall. Overlooking that, it's a great game to play with your friends.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. I was extremely excited for this game to come out. I liked the concept of Borderlands, the Loot Crawler meets FPS, but this was more up my alley. Scrap the jokes and cartoony cell shading and put in a gritty story and landscapes that can't help but make you think you're about to embark on a journey the likes of Fire Fly or even Star Wars that came before it.

What I got was close, but no cigar. When I first picked up the beta I knew there was going to be a problem. It begins with your character being brought back from the dead...which may make sense in terms of the Exo beings or maybe even an Awoken, but a regular human being brought back to life after hundreds of years? You must be able to suspend belief In sci fi and fantasy fiction to begin with, but this concept needed way more explanation than what was provided. I was hoping they would change this up on release, but no luck.

Besides other gaping holes in stories plot, the games story and strike mode options become super repetitive. Stand in this place, defend the position from waves of minions, rinse, wash and repeat until you meet the final boss, who's difficulty level only differs on how much HP it has.

But if you take the time to switch between Crucible matches, Vanguard bounties, hunting for resources and raiding there is still plenty of diversity and content to be found.

Games today seem to have gone with the concept of player created content, that you essentially are the story and what you do within the game creates the story. The developer is only providing the blocks for you to put together. But we need something to care about in order to make that spark happen, the game isn't open enough to not have some hand holding in regards to story concept and we all know that Bungie is capable of providing that.

An overall fun experience, especially if you have friends to make the journey with. I would recommend this to buy, but I hope that Bungie is listening to feedback and will be providing a more completed experience in the future with added content.

I can't count how many advertisements I've seen on social media, how many commercials I've been forcefed on Youtube. There are Destiny wallpapers in websites where you would least expect it! It's really not our fault we were "Over-hyped".
The mechanics of the game are spotless, movement is squeaky clean, visuals are stunning, but that is really pulled under by a tasteless, half-assed storyline. Lots of the things we were promised are missing from the game, where's the ability to fly a ship? Where were those supposed armor customizations we were looking forward too? The buddy system is also too restricted to really enjoy with anyone other than your friends.
For a game that was so hyped up, it just seems like they had something really good going but they through away some of the bits of the game that would have made it so much better! The fact that it had a budget of over 400 million dollars doesn't make it any better. Most of the things that would probably make the game worth buying would probably be pitched through Activision's retarded-ass expansion pack system.
You shouldn't have to buy add-on's to make a game what it should be. I never did like any of Activision's games and I had hope with this one. I guess I was wrong.
Destiny has very good gaming aspects, yes; but it is simply missing too many of the things that could make it worthy predecessor to Bungie's previous games. It is decent, but simply just too AVERAGE to be hyped so much.

First of all - it is not an MMO. 3 player missions and 6 player pvp and one single 6 person raid with no matchmaking is not Massive Multiplayer. Clans are pointless - theres no in game integration such as seeing a clan roster, adding/booting/promoting members, having a clan dojo, etc.

Theres no singleplayer - all raids force you into a team of two randoms and theres no proximity chat , and multiplayer "public" areas are populated with only 2 or 3 scrubs at a time. Public events are a joke and you will solo them in 30 seconds flat. The story is confusing and pointless. You never fight any darkness, only space zombies and robots. The final boss is floating black diarrhea and feels out of place. The raid is complete bullshlt and a waste of a good 20 hours. Rather than punish you for messing up like Dark Souls, it just punishes you for playing.

PVP is a waste since theres no ranking, no ranked matches, and no hardcore mode without supers and perks. Theres actually only 2 modes - killing and control a circle while killing. No flag, no oddball, no bomb, no objective. And when you win you get nothing, yet kids that AFK or suck get exotics. The loot system is broken and will drive you mad.

The formula for Destiny is 75% farming a cave, and 25% watching loadscreens. I wish I could get my money back but I bought Digital. -10 out of 10

If this game is actually finished with any kind of appreciable story, more than three NPC that are not just storekeepers with tourette's style exposition, and some actual sci-fi to the gear in the game, then it will be worth a second look. As it stands currently, it is too short, too dull (endless waves of the same enemies), and too expensive compared to better shooters. The only way to win this game is not to play.

Be warned, even though this comes from the makers of Halo, they took away your ability to use alien weapons. Bad game design writ large.

Seriously, the people who gave this game bad scores need some friends to play with. This game is a cross between Halo and Borderlands, with a smidge of MMO thrown in. Thats what it was designed to be, and thats what it delivers.

Its not perfect. There does come a point where you need to grind to catch up in levels and it does suck that there is no way to communicate with other players,

Regardless, it doesnt warrant a red score just for that.

The problem with these low score reviews is they expect the ever elusive, 100% unique, genre defining MMO theyve been expecting since WoW. That, as usual, means theyll hate on it because it doesnt revolutionize the genre, yet they'll bow down to the next CoD iteration despite the fact its the exact same thing as the CoD before it.

This game is great. A lot of people are complaining that there is a lack of storyline -- this is true to a degree. Unlike Halo, there is no great storyline that you, Master Chief, must follow. Some are complaining that this isn't Borderlands / this isn't Halo: No, it isn't. It's Destiny. C'mon now.

Lastly, a big complaint is the lack of single player and the lack of a good chat system for multiplayer... the lack of a single player may be a deal breaker for some but certainly not worth a 0 or a 1 review. Single player isn't really possible with this game given the open world idea it has going on. On your way to a mission, you'll come by plenty of other Guardians fighting off hordes, and can join in with them. Who knows, maybe they're heading in the same direction as your quest. These impromptu "fireteams" are a lot of fun to experience, especially when an optional event spawns in your map.

As far as the lack of voice chat goes, I'm with you on that one. But again, that doesn't really warrant a mass drop of the score.

Destiny definitely has a unique feel to it, which I think some might take to be empty or generic. I don't really feel that way. The worlds feel a bit desolate and isolated, but in a way that space probably should. You're never completely alone playing, even when you don't have a fireteam because there are other players doing their own missions in the same area as you. This was a really nice surprise. I feel like what's there is a great basis for an online community to dwell and grow in. I'm excited to see what more this game has to offer.

As far as the story goes, it's almost not there, but what is is interesting and intriguing. I'd definitely prefer a sparse story to one that sucks. There's been nothing corny or over the top about the game, which is usually what pulls me out of being immersed.

Of course people are comparing this to Borderlands and Halo, which makes sense. However, I think this is a little bit more of a refined experience than both. It's definitely a mature product in a game making sense.

My advice is to not listen to all the negative reviews on this and try the game out for yourself. Is it the best game ever made? No, it's not. It is worth $60? Yes, absolutely.

First off, anyone giving this game less than 6 is reviewing it based on some missed expectation that they had, and not based on the game as it stands.

The story missions were fun, though playing them on hard is a necessary for anyone looking for any kind of challenge with a fireteam. When I took the time to actually look around, some of the environments I was taken too where quite impressive. Whenever I started to feel bored with the single player a new planet would open up, bringing new environments to explore and new enemy types. The story itself was easily dismissed by many, but I found that if I actually listened to everything and payed attention to why I was doing things it was more enjoyable. I think it didn't resonate with more people because storytelling would frequently happen without taking a break from the game. You would be running around and collecting ammo or whatever usually while the narrator (ghost) was talking and the dialogue just didn't pop out as much.

The content opens up a lot after lvl 20. The strike missions on heroic/impossible difficulties presented a great challenge for fireteams and made teamplay a necessity. I didn't get a chance to try out the 6-man raids though...

PvP is a lot of fun, and I can see myself spending a lot of time there. I'm really a CoD/BF player that enjoys single player/coop games like Borderlands and Mass Effect on the side. The matches I played in the crucible were exciting and the map variety was decent. Many people felt that in the Beta there was no weapon to use outside of the automatic rifle, but I felt like each weapon type could be successful with an appropriate change in tactics (though I believe the day one patch had a bit to do with balancing it out). You don't sprint into the middle of a firefight with a revolver any more than you would snipe with a shotgun. Being able to change your weapon loadout mid-match is a great feature, as it gives you the ability to change up your strategy based on the map and the enemies tactics.

I felt like there were some missed opportunities though. More mission variety would have been nice. For example, there was one mission in particular where you picked up a big sword and held off a wave of enemies with a brutal sword/melee attack. It presented a slight change of pace, an opportunity to feel overpowered (without actually being so, as you would get your ass kicked by the elites if you spent too much time in melee range). Most of the missions were similar "go here, kill guys, kill an elite/boss, go home" type missions, mixing attacking new areas with defending against incoming waves. Maybe more missions where you did a lot with vehicles, or got into turrets, or any other single player FPS tropes. I also felt like there wasn't enough loot drops. When it takes 10 minutes and/or multiple attempts to take down a boss, have him drop a cool weapon or gadget for the lower levels. There was more loot in end game content, but getting there takes a while and the lack of rewards from killing bosses was taxing when going through the story the first time. Also, I miss the big multiplayer matches (8v8 or 12v12) in multiplayer, and the vehicle variety in both single and multiplayer. A few Halo-esque vehicle missions would have been a welcome addition to the story missions. To say that the movement and gunplay didn't feel at least a little Halo-esque would be a lie, and I want my blood gulch!

Overall it is a solid game, with loads of content. I felt like it had a little bit of something for everyone, with a enjoyable campaign for casual, a solid end-game for hardcore, and fun PvP for that crowd. I can assume some of the things I thought were missing had to be cut based on the amount of development time they had in creating these massive worlds and multiple ways to experience it. Hopefully we see the addition of some of those things with the upcoming expansions, and we don't have to wait until "Destiny 2" to get it. I for one look forward to spending a lot of time gearing up multiple classes and having fun in multiplayer for now. See you on the battlefield!

The advertising for the game seems to bill it equally as MMO and online FPS, however I feel that Destiny has managed to craft something a little different that may not be a killer app the way that Halo was, but definitely introduces some neat ideas that would love to catch on. In particular I enjoy how well the whole package is tied together. from one menu you can choose to do PvE content, Co-op, or PVP and they all feed into one another so that you never feel that your time invested is wasted or segmented from the rest. I often skip PvP when I play MMORPGs because it is isolated (Typically) from the PvE content and it feels like I'm trying to progress two different characters in very similar games, which I don't enjoy. Instead, you earn great experience points, armor, as well as additional PvP rewards from participating in the 4 PvP modes, and all of that progress helps you in the "single-player" game as well. This, to me, is the biggest selling point of Destiny because the other good points of the game are self-evident. It looks great, controls great, etc. But since the game is trying to convince us all that it is different, I felt it was important to focus on what those differences are.

Besides the Hybrid PvE/PVP content being done well, i really enjoy the way they have designed leveling up, and the separate classes. At level up you're given a skill point to distribute, and your skills screen is separated into columns, although it just looks like one big block of cubes. For example, while you might have 40 squares on the screen, the top row of 5 would be completely different skills or bonuses and anything below would be related. It could be a different grenade style (Grenades are on a cool-down timer rather than a lootable item, also) or it could be a stat boost that has trade-offs. You can freely trade between the skills that have trade-offs or offer competing benefits as you unlock them, as well.

Depending on the rarity of your items, you also have skills on your weapons and armor that get unlocked. For example, on a Blue quality drop, you have a similar "Skill Tree" where you use the weapon or item enough and it earns XP that unlocks the ability to pay for upgrades with in-game currency. This could be a better scope, or a more interesting feature like improving stability the longer it is fired, or increases reload speed after an emptied clip.

The classes (Titan, Hunter, Warlock) all have a unique look, and have a unique "Special Weapon" category for signature arms (Sniper for hunter, for example), and their armor all has a unique look that reveals their class.

The story thus far is completely forgettable in it's current state, but I don't think it's too late to salvage that. The world itself is interesting enough, and I think that given the resources they've been allowed to this project, Bungie is more than capable of taking gamer feedback and doing something constructive. Will it be done? Probably not. Could it be done? Definitely, the foundations are there.

    Now, on to some negatives.

Each PvE mission is represented on a map of a planet you fly to (You visit multiple). And while the locations on the map are different, you always seem to start in the same location. I believe I have figured out that the map is representative of the "Zone" a la traditional MMO style, but it is misleading from my expectations of a new map, or at least a new spawn point. When you're on the moon, you're always spawning in the same place. You will pass familiar locations, places you've been before on other missions, but will go to an entirely new place, or return to see the effects of other things you did in a location. I think they could represent this better since the screen you choose your mission at shows locations that look like they're very very far apart, but in reality you're looking at the map of a zone, and starting at a static point before moving to the location of the mission.

Missions are very very very repetitive. They are always "Go here, trip the invisible wire and enemies pour in. Work your way to a piece of tech that Peter Dinklage wants to hack into, hold enemies off until he's done. Repeat." However... it's a shooter. I wasn't expecting anything revolutionary, and honestly I am content with the host of new abilities I get from leveling up that stay a bit more grounded than the silliness that Borderlands sticks to. If you're expecting to pick up a new weapon every five minutes with sticky bullets that explode enemies into chunky acid that sets other enemies on fire... this is not the reality of Destiny. It is a much more tame, and grounded experience in regards to the type of gameplay Borderlands introduced us to.

They need to go back to the drawing board in terms of voice actors (Peter Dinklage or whoever is horrible choice). Less flavor of the month voice actors and more people that can actually portray the world you are trying to show us.

Artificial intelligence in this game is passable, but that's it. I would definitely like to see this fixed in future iterations of the game.

Delivery of the story-line is horrid, but then again your choice in voice actors may be causing this issue.

Destiny is a flawed but still extremely fun first person shooter. While the Destiny universe itself seems intriguing, the storyline is told in such an incoherent manner that it's hard not to be turned off by all the technobabble. Fortunately the co-op shooter mechanics are absolutely perfect. The loot system can be maddening, but in a way it adds to the game's addictiveness. [Oct 2014]
