Why the hate? This game delivers on what was promised with flying colors, and its incredibly fun. I typically don't write reviews but after seeing all the "0" scores here I felt this injustice needed to be addressed. This is a high production value game that excels in gunplay, musical score, artistic direction, Multiplayer goodness.

I would highly recommend, I've been there for Halo 1 and 2, then retreated a bit from bungee titles. I'm back now with this excellent addition. I foresee many hours of fun with Destiny. Don't listen to the oddly misplaced hatred from people, this game delivers!

Destiny is a game for people looking for some social fun, pretty much what Halo delivered before, but Bungie expanded the formula a little bit (compared to Halo). It is a singleplayer game that you will never play alone (I know, I know, let me explain) and here's why – you can always focus on your own objectives, being a lone wolf and everything, other players on the map would act pretty much like background without interrupting your gameplay. I mean yes, probably a couple times you would end up exterminating same pack of enemies as someone else, but here's where Bungie's signature move kicks in – it's huge, the locations are so big you can always get away from other players and mind your own business, there is enough fun for everyone. The game doesn't burden you with 50+ times leveling up, you reach the cap relatively quick and instead focus on switching skills and subclasses on the fly. Not to mention that the game is really well-balanced.

Despite everything I said in the first paragraph, as a guy who always runs alone in almost every multiplayer game, I must urge you to find a teammate. Just one is already enough, but the more – the merrier. Bungie games always open up from a different side when you play it with someone (especially if you play with that person constantly) – you deal with missions easier (although enemies become harder and the loot dropped gets better), you fool around, have some laughs and generally have a lot of fun.

Then there is Crucible. Everything you did in the campaign, all your skills, your weapons and equipment – you keep it and take it to competitive multiplayer, which feels like a blend between CoD and Halo (in a good way). You still level up there and get new loot, everything you get in Crucible transfers to singleplayer and vice versa.
It's a great game to kickstart a new generation and definitely an ambitious project not to be missed.

I'm flabbergasted that so many people are rating this game below 7, let alone giving the game no marks/points whatsoever.

I've loved this game from the alpha onwards and look forward to it expanding and becoming a fanchise to rival all other AAA titles out there.

One more thing. People also complain that there is no offline mode. First off Bungie stated this from the very beginning. They said this game would be constantly online. If you have, then you knew there was no offline in the beginning so if you did not like the fact why get the game in the first place. That is like getting World of Warcraft and expecting there to be an offline mode. That being said you are NOT forced to play with anyone, you can play solo. Yes the open world environment has random players running around. But once you reach your mission location I.E. the point where you cannot respawn, then only you, or members in your fire team whom you have invited an enter that point with you. Seriously, the only category one could really argue against would be Fun Factor. Because just like beauty, it is in the eyes of the beholder.

My ratings, I feel are the core fundamentals of all games. Fun factor to me consists of many things, like if you like the story the that's being told etc. You might ask why would a reviewer not have "Story" as a rating. Well, what if there is no story? Like in a game like Tetris or Candy Crush?

Destiny hits on exactly what it intended on. Making an awesome & fun: online, Co-Op, MMO, Shooter. Destiny manages to bring console players together like never before. My friends list has grown exponentially since the launch of the full version of the game. I met a handful of “Guardians” in line while waiting to grab my copy of Destiny. And there it was…, I added a few new guardians to my friends list and then it happened. We started playing, exploring, and leveling up together. This is what hooked it for me. We started talking about our gear, where to find dead ghosts, showing each other where gold chests were, teaching each other new tricks and tactics, explaining how light works, talking about favorite TV shows, chatting about new movies, what new games we want…, and then it hit me….Destiny brings the social aspect of gaming to life like I’ve never experienced before. And, I’ve played other online games with friends before…., but this one is different. You can definitely play it solo, but it’s clearly meant to play with others. I can’t help but chuckle at the reviewers that complain about replaying levels. The experience of playing Earth when first starting your adventure is completely different when you’re a level 20+ with badass guns and gear. You instantly get a sense of.., well, feeling like you’re Billy Bad @ss! And it’s so self-rewarding, because you can clearly remember how difficult it was the first time you attacked that particular level vs. how you are owning fools after leveling up.

I could go on and on and on…., and I really am just scratching the surface with everything you can do, and everything I could write/review about. Oh, and Bungie is updating stuff (levels, missions, tweaks, gear, etc.) daily/weekly/monthly..., expansion packs…,

If you’re looking for a real review from a real game player, take mine. This game is really awesome, and if you take a deep dive into the world of Destiny, you won’t be disappointed.

    Good Luck Guardians!

This game did exactly what Bungie set out for it to do. It is the most fun gameplay experience I've had since Portal 2 ad everything fits perfectly into place. Honestly this game did recieve quite a bit of hype. It's a solid 7 to 8 as it could have more to the story than it does. One thing that cannot be denied is that it is fun. Someone on here played the game for 15 hours only to give it a 2. Now using common sense only an idiot would waste that much valuable time out of their lives.

RPG? Protip: Character development involves meaningful choices. There are virtually no RPG elements to this game. You have no skill paths, no influence on the story, and nothing that differentiates you from every other character beyond what gear you're wearing.

Sure, you can choose slight variations on skills as you level up - like do you want your grenade area to be bigger, or maybe have it deploy mini-grenades. That's not character development people. Yes, at higher levels you can choose the ONE sub-class or not. Woohoot.

So, it's a pretty decent FPS shooter with an okay story and Peter Dinklage mailing in some voice acting as the Ghost. But it is NOT an MMO or an RPG by any definition of those terms.

The locations are repetitive but the experiences in them are not. The lack of cutscenes is a nod towards that repetition. Nobody wants to group watch a bunch of video--they want to blow stuff up with their mates. I've seen outright errors in professional reviews--like the lack of ability to join up with random people you see online. You absolutely can. This game will keep me busy for a couple of months of 10 hour/week gaming. I don't like repetition. So who I am playing with and what sub-mission I am going after, or the surprise drop-in missions that started a couple of days ago all make the experience different enough to keep me coming back. Did Bungie start a game revolution? No way, but that's a pretty high bar for a 10. Expand

But maybe if people would stop expecting the world handed to them on a silver platter, and they took off their "critical glasses" for two seconds, they might enjoy themselves every once in a while. If you buy this game expecting a COD type shooter, you won't like it as much and you'll give it a score of 6.0 or 0 or whatever. That's not really fair to rate a game based on the wrong expectations , but hey, that's why you're not a pro game reviewer and why user reviews don't matter. That'd be like be buying a driving simulator and expecting it to be like Burnout paradise crash and blasting all out arcade action game and being disappointed when you just feel like you're driving a real car. Some people like that, some people don't, but if it's accurate to what it's intended to be, it deserves an appropriate score.

Destiny, is kind of like it's own genre, and if you play it like it's intended to be played, it's an absolute blast. It's intended to be played with actual FRIENDS with a headset so you can use strategy, such as flanking and maneuvering to defeat the enemy and complete the objective. The "legitimate" low scores (not counting the 0's, 2's, 3's because that just insulting) are just people expecting a different style of game. If you like strategy and co-operative gameplay, and have friends that do as well, you're going to LOVE this game, once you get past the couple hour learning curve. It's truly amazing. This is my first Metacritic review because this is the first time I really felt the need to explain a game being that it is "different" than what a lot of people are expecting. The voice chat is set up so you can only talk to people in your fireteam because the levels are pretty big. hearing other fireteams would make it absolutely a confusing mess. If you happen to team up with another fireteam and mesh with them, add them as a friend and add them to your fireteam, or use the group chat feature on PS4 away from the game. It's pretty damn simple. If you try to play this game alone, you won't enjoy it as much and that will affect your decision. In that case, it's not a type a game for you, but for the type of game it is, it's an amazing new experience. It's a great game and easily a 9 possibly higher once I get even more in depth into the world.

As someone who rarely enjoys multiplayer shooters this game is fantastic. Bungie's blend of Halo, Diablo, Borderlands, and MMO strikes the perfect balance. The story is not particularly strong, but I do care about the world I'm trying to save. The lore is interesting, enemy types unique, and the atmosphere is phenomenal. As a musician I am really digging the soundtrack as well.

I have only completed the first levels on earth in about 8-10 hours, and am a level 9, but if the story keeps me interested this will be the first game I will KEEP on ps4. Ps4 has the best and smoothest graphics, my brother has an xboxone, you can see the difference. AI will defend and pullout if in danger, boss battles are boss battles, you will spend some time defeating them. The only reason for a 9 is that you can't chat with just anyone, only people in your fire team. I would like to think a patch will open this up down the road. Good job Bungie! Expand

    This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Alright, so here's my two cents;
First off, I've had the game since opening day, not night. I wasn't playing when everyone was experiencing the Server crashes, and all the other problems as they came about. However, by the time I had gotten home from work, created a character, and set off into Old Russia, I was hooked. The game has such a depth to its environment, with a depth that makes you feel insignificant and lost within the world you're exploring. It has a lot of little things that just make the game enjoyable, and beautiful. The lighting effects are amazing, as are the coinciding shadows. The fact that I saw my own shadow while crawling through a tunnel was awesome in itself. Now, the framerate from what I've noticed isn't all that bad at 30 FPS, I'd much rather have that then something that has a great set of 60 FPS and then completely drops out because there's too much going on in the world around you. Combat is great; that being said, a random spawn would be an excellent addition, rather than knowing where the enemies are gonna spawn all the time. Maybe change what spawns there too. Instead of having a moment of "okay, around this corner are 2 Thresh, 2 Knights and a Wizard, so i need to throw my grenade here and then my knife here and then a sniper shot here." In addition to that, while I know the expansion is coming out the story could have been just a tad bit longer. From what I've heard, it's about 18 hours or so for the story, but I understand that the want to have it be more of a by chapter thing, because of the Ten year plan they have in place.
Overall, definitely worth buying and playing. I know my review was kind of long winded, and I'm sorry for that. Destiny might have a few cracks, but knowing Bungie, they will definitely fix, and listen to the community, especially with something as great as this. Solid title.

My absolute favorite thing right now are the Patrol missions. This free-roam game mode is exactly what I would want in a FPS. Just go in and mindlessly roam around grabbing little quests and hunting down groups of monsters. You can go for as long or as short a time as you want. It's simply fun. If this is grinding to you, you are playing the wrong game.

I probably would give this one a 9, but I'm bumping it up to a 10 to combat the unnecessary hate.

I do have one complaint about this game and that is the loading of playable areas. There is a staging place Destiny refers to as 'Orbit' and to get to any playable are you have to go through 'Orbit' requiring two separate loads instead of just one if you were to go straight to the playable area. Aside from this the mechanics, graphics, story, and all other pieces have come together exceptionally to form a well-balanced mixture of simple MMO with FPS. If you are expecting a full blown MMO then this is not the game for you. If you like simple MMO and a well crafted FPS then you will be in heaven. Very good game even ignoring all the hype. It's one that's going to evolve and grow over time much like a MMO so its hard to give it a final score. The game wont appeal to everyone, but its far from being as bad as all these low scores suggest. Expect this to be a larger and richer game in the future as the universe expands.

As for the PvP, I personally only liked the Control game mode, but that doesn't mean the other three modes aren't good, they're actually quite well done and are on par with other games, like Halo and so on though I really wish there were more PvP game modes. Honestly, it's worth the 60 dollars , give it a try and don't listen to some of these 2 scores, these people seem to have had the completely wrong idea about what the game was and are now hurting it's score because of their expectations. However, I do agree that it lacks voice chat in PvP but from my experience in the parts where you can use voice chat (in strikes where you're in fireteams) no one ever uses them anyway, at least on the PS4. Oh and I almost forgot, the graphics are superb, being a PC gamer, this game looked on part with a lot of recent PC games on the PS4. Expand

But there are a whole bunch of people who like their booze blended with fruit and served with a little umbrella. Hell, sometimes the people who only like booze or only like fruit try a Strawberry Daquiri and realize they've been missing out this whole time.

To that end, much like Strawberry Daquiris, if you have enough of Destiny, you are going to have a great time (even if you don't remember all of it).

I will readily admit that Destiny has repetitive aspects to it but what FPS or MMO doesn't? Now a crowd of people who viewed 'Destiny' as a 'gamechanger' are probably stamping their feet and howling at the cracked moon about it not being radical enough. Destiny is not a gamechanger but, what it is, is a gatekeeper to a new land of games. I have never seen a game that has blended so many elements from so many different genres/games to create something all its own.

Now at this point we should be getting the digs about copying Borderlands or copying Mass Effect or yaddya yaddya yaddya rabble rabble rabble. Well you guys must hate cars (BMWs are just Model T clones ftw) because every game borrows elements from others to create their own. What Destiny does is take some of the best elements from those other games and mashes them together in a wonderfully diverse package. Many will point to the loot diversity and say Borderlands, others look at the MP and say Halo, some point to the RPG elements and say Mass Effect and yes, its fun to point at origins and go 'Simpsons did it!' but the bottom line is those other games don't have all the elements together and that is what makes Destiny such a strong offering.

Listen, in the end, Destiny will create its own fanbase much like Borderlands did, much like Mass Effect did. It may not be as broad or as far reaching as Halo or COD or BF because if they wanted it to be that far reaching they would've just made a shooter. What Bungie did, while not a revolution, was raise the bar for the level of depth and content that we should expect from FPS games moving forward.

In the end, I know some people thought with Destiny they were getting a spaceship but got a Tesla instead. No, its not that revolutionary, its not a totally new experience or idea but its something we've never seen available for mass consumption with such an interesting mix of ideas and gameplay. So if you want to take it back to the dealership, go for it, but don't begrudge the look on the next guys face as he can't wait to get in and try something different.

Besides the fact that I'm having a lot of fun with this game, I'd like to point out the perfect game mechanics and also the compelling overall design - it is really remarkable! Just my thing - Sci-Fi, dystopia, action, weapons, items, multiplayer, character customisation and development - and all bundled into a very well done package. Just a few words on multiplayer: If your expectation is to socially engage with other players like in MMOs and if that is important for you - maybe Destiny is not for you. Multiplayer is there and it works great but just like many things in Destiny, it is (positively) different. There's no chat and almost no voice interaction, this is more like in Battlefield for example. For me this is just great, I never liked the babbling in MMOs anyway. If things in the game require true teamwork I would only band up with players that I know anyway. Expand

Of course, these are my opinions on the game. The story being the only downside to an otherwise great game. I don't honestly think the game deserves a 10/10, but closer to a 8.5-9/10. I'm rating it a 10 to try to negate the absolutely garbage reviews giving this a 0/10.

To sum it all up. Buy this game. It's entertaining, and will only get better with the updates that Bungie will implement. This is an ever changing game, and just watching it evolve from Alpha, to Beta, to release has been a great experience.

Coop is optional with up to 3 friends working together, which makes missions a lot easier by letting you flank enemies. The game does adjust the difficulty of each mission dynamically though, so it's still possible on your own.

Apart from the main story mode there's also Patrol mode letting you roam a vast area taking on mini-missions, again, coop if you want. There's also a PvP mode called Crucible which I haven't tried, and afaik it's not part of the story.

Second off I haven't played the whole game to give a full review but from what I have played I will give a review for the time being. First off with the character creation, some good and bad. I wish there was more to actually create with the character looks, however the play style of the 3 classes is really nice. The three classes is based off if you want to be stealthy/kill from long range, be a "tank" and be on the front lines of the battle, and the class with the magic and firepower abilities. This makes it so you can really find a class to fit the way you like to play. Next, the game play is really good. The abilities are pretty awesome and are a lot different for each class. Your guns have a lot of different attachments you can upgrade and put on made each gun unique. Also, each weapon has different stats even if it is the same weapon it will have different stats than the same type of gun, making he loot system very random which is nice. This game is meant to be played with people with missions that suggest having multiple people to take on bosses which would be very difficult for one player, and the higher levels you go the more people they suggest for even more difficult boss battles (kind of like raids and dungeons from World of warcraft). Also people say there isn't much to do however you can free roam on the worlds to do side missions. One downside is that you can't communicate with other players unless you are in a party. This is a very rough review since i have yet to play enough to give an in depth review, however from what I have played and watched this is a very fun game with hours of gameplay. Expand

Destiny is a really fun multiplayer shooter. I love what Bungie has create. Sure there is some end-content missing and also the story is not so epic like the halo stuff. But the music, the coop is perfect. I had so many funny and enjoyable moments and that after only 1 week ;)
Give the publisher some time to deliver us with more content. I don't think that it is all what they have planed.

You can play a round of Crucible(PvP) and have you epic halo-esque experience, and then in addition to that you wait with bated breath to see if the die you rolled will net you any loot. You might get a ship, new color patterns for your armor, new weapons, or new armor. Who knows? But just by playing the game you are rewarded.

In PvE you have the equivalent of a looking for group tool a la WoW. Quick, easy, strikes that ensure you get some piece of gear. You have the reputation factions to choose your armor path. Cosmetic items to dump currency into. And you have the epic Vault of Glass that just opened. A truly eye opening experience for the FPS genre. This is what Destiny is. Each expansion will have a new raid, and if they are anything like this initial offering they will be well worth the money.

All of this is wrapped carefully around an incredibly tight shooter at its base. I cannot fathom why there would be such low scores. Even if this were a multiplayer only game with no play (anyone remember Titanfall?) it should get at least a 7. With all its offering and potential it should be at a ten, but the story fell flat, really flat. But don't let that discourage you from playing one of the best FPS offerings since Halo 2.

Reviewers cannot review correctly Destiny within a week, it is meant to be evolving all the time, and try leveling up your characters above level 20 and experiencing the real game, it all changes then. I don't have a personal gain for bungie's success on this game other than that I wouldn't like gamers not to log into the game and make it grow in to obscurity. For me the only reason for this game not to have good reviews is that the people that actually like the game couldn't find the time to write anything good about it because they are playing it like crazy. Bungie will add more to this game i'm sure as this is their 10 year project. No doubt you will have to pay for these expansions but I think that they will add more to the "RPG" elements and add to the story in its self. I pray (like everyone else) that some of these story expansions will be free, if not, cheaper than the rest. But other then that the game is quite satisfying to play most of the time. I would recommend this game but only if the price goes down since their will be a lot of expansion purchasing. A few grindy parts in the gameplay here and there but other than that I enjoyed it. The dialogue in the game in a little bland, but also inoffensive. The game play has rock solid controls and it feels like a Halo game. The graphics are impressive while not groundbreaking, but the game runs at a steady clip and I've notice no technical problems with it's performance. You have a very limited set of options creating a character before you begin the game allowing you to choose one of three classes, races, and a few options to customize your look. Once you start playing your character grows stronger as you play gaining better equipment as rewards for completeing quests. Focusing on what was wrong with game early on, was a lot to do with my expectations of what kind of game it would be. Massive hype can have that effect, such I suppose is human nature.
The more I play it the more impressive it becomes, a vast alien landscape in which endless battles occur and non of my foes are humans. It's a utopia for war , where an obsession with guns can be innocent and fine.

If you enjoy MMOs that had large Grinds. Destiny is for you, you'll be running a lot of the same content over and over until more is released over time/months. There's many things to do and daily/weekly challenges with good rewards.

End-game is also good, Raids being the hardest content I've yet to see in any shooter. Even on par or surpasses Borderlands difficulty.
There is a vast amount of gear and ways to build your character to fit your playstyle.

The best way to put it is, this game will take up a lot of your time if you enjoy progression of your character and gambling chances while identifying gear. The game rewards you over long times and the gear you may acquire won't be the best at times-then that one day you'll get several legendaries in a row and squeal with joy.

The game has small MMO aspects placed with an FPS with good customization.
The best thing I can say to lore seekers and people wanting a Good Story, there isn't much depth-YET. Even though on Bungie.net your grimoire cards you unlock over time do give nice chunks of interesting lore.

I highly recommend this game only if you're a fan of repetitive grinds like I am and have a good group of friends you enjoy playing games with.

After that the real game starts and the hunt for legendary and exotic armor and weapons , the ranking up in pvp if you're into that , or just getting standing with the vangaurd to get you better armor.

The group zones you do after you hit 20 are great. Every day there's a new one you can do for extra exp.

You can easily see Bungie made this game to be easily expandable. Leveling beyond lvl 20 is done through gear so adding a few levels is just a mater of itemization

Reviewers tend to rate their ego vs the gaming industry. If they don't get it they don't leave it open , they just give it a bad score. I remember WOW and EQ2 reviews in big magazines having been done by people who played until they were level 20 and level 12 respectively scoring them by how good the water looked.
Honestly , these people have no idea, they are the bane of the gaming industry.

Why only a 9 and not a 10 ? I don't like the idea you need a playstation plus account to have a serious game experience. It makes up for not needing a monthly fee, granted, but they have the ability to jump on the DLC train instead , which is just the same. Add a few zones, ask 10 dollars.

This is a great game. As a stand alone co-op campaign, it probably would rate an 8-8.5 with me, but when you add in the competitive multiplayer and the fluidity between the two, it has to get a 9 or 9.5. Your character, gear, and levels move between the two. You are actually progressing no matter what you do on the game. Keep in mind, though, that there are MMO elements in here. This is not a COD campaign. There is grinding for gear and rare loot. This game is meant to play for weeks. If you hated Borderlands, there are going to be elements in this game you won't like. We all are different and people who don't enjoy the genres Destiny mashes together may not be a fan. However, this game is an 8 at least, even to people who don't love the genres. It is a very solid and expansive journey in both the PvP and PvE sectors. It's worth a buy and please disregard the 0s and 2s. They are just absurd and are the product of trolls.

But the game does have some similarities to borderlands because of the focus on coop and loot however the personolization of your character is much greater and you will find yourself fighting much more enemies at one time than borderlands. The enemies while smart are just not aggresive enough with enemies that could easily kill you up close retreating after taking damage the game has the potential to be challenging but the enemy a.i needs to be updated. And as for the story it might not appear to be anything at first but if you are interested and want to go deeper you can and lastly for the always online feature destiny is meant to be a coop game where you will run into other players randomly and can choose to help or ignore them this does not make destiny an mmo though as the most players that you will see outside the tower will be 7 during raids. Just two more things, the game could defanintaly use less hold yor ground against oncoming enemies scenario which i have seen every other mission Expand

DO NOT BELIEVE THE NEGATIVITY!! This is a marvellous game! I am honestly blown away as to the critics and users negative reviews. The gameplay is engrossing, the pvp is enjoyable and addictive and the reward system keeps you coming back for me. It's a WOW and borderlands hybrid that works. Buy this game. Buy this game. This is actually my first metacritic review (though I've been following the site for years). So far, this game has combined several of my favorite games and genre. About the only issue I have is the lack of friends to connect with. Everyone I know that has this game are levels far above my own. I'm a gamer, but I have a job and a family... I can't spend the time on a game like others. It seems difficult to make in game friends. I'm hoping that the game will have updates to address this issue in the future, Expand

Plus, the story isn't over yet, it's supposed to go on for a long time. With 2 expansions already announced. If you have some regular friends to play with, it will greatly increase your enjoyment of this game. It's borderlands mixed with halo,,but just not as easy to find other players,,,or join their fireteams...also by default the join fireteams setting is set to private......every time you log in.,,and it seems most people don't know this, or how to change the setting.

So i think Bungie actually made a nextgen shooter, and made it brilliant.

Those saying it lacks content haven't gotten past level 8-14 as the game keeps you interested by slowly revealing more and more to you as you go. The game may not live up to everyone's expectations, but frankly no game ever does, with that in mind Destiny excels in delivering a fun and involving gameplay structure which draws you in from beginning to end. Granted, this is an opinion, as is everything that follows, I personally love Destiny, it's my favorite FPS of all time, and I have played the likes of Halo, Borderlands, CoD, Battlefield, The Darkness, Half Life 2, etc. I have played Destiny for 20+ hours and still have so much I want to explore, upgrade, and play through.

That statement I made above about being involving does not quite include the story, as it is rather flat, which is a shame because it has the foundations for an amazing story, I only hope the expand upon it in another game. The beginning of the story showed much promised, louring me into the world, wondering what may occur as the story progressed, although it never quite delivers, rather it starts to fade a bit at the 1/4-1/2 mark of the campaign missions where it starts to lose it's focus and traction.

To sum up the gameplay, think the smooth and stylish aiming of Halo, with the grittier down to Earth sway and kickback of Borderlands. The admittedly aren't as many enemies as in some other games like borderlands, but there are enough to keep it as fresh as Halo was throughout it's campaign, and enough to mix up things. The 'repetition' that many refer to can be said for most any shooter really, whether you are playing Borderlands and have to constantly do 'collect these parts' missions, or 'go here, kill him, and get that' stuff. Same goes if you play Halo or any other shooter where it all comes down going there and killing that, which is really the only true repetition you get in Destiny. There will be missions where you do start at the beginning of the map, exactly where you start for the next two missions on the same planet, but frankly this isn't as bad as people make it out to be, you merely jump on your sparrow and zoom off to a usually new area of the map that you didn't get to go to in the last mission. It is literally a 1-2 minute affair. I feel the only reason people see any repetition is do to the fact that the story really does not drive you to care about what you are doing, though really if you come to enjoy the gameplay like I did then it's more than enough to inspire you. Loot, as well as it's progression is where the game thrives, along with gunplay. From the start you get weapons that you can't quite equip as it requires a (very slightly, usually 1 or 2) level up.The weapons don't have the variety of effect as Borderlands, but frankly not many FPS games can say they do, though frankly I enjoy using my Pulse Rifle or Fusion Rifle any day over Borderlands inaccurate explosive machine guns or range-drunk shotguns any day.

As I was saying with the world, it draws you in and never lets you go as you explore each world and it's crevices. The environments are HUGE, even if you don't know it, as quite often there are paths hiding secret ways deeper into the map. The first time I jumped on a sparrow heading to a new location through a secret valley was the moment I realized how much I loved Destiny. As you traverse these beautiful world you will occasionally come across others, though you never really team up with them but it give you a sense of placement.

The score and overall personality of the world is of of Destiny's great triumphs, it is easily one of the best looking games currently in existence. Note: not in a hyper realistic way, while it is detailed and the lighting and texture as generally realistic, it is fantasy styled.

Content is as follows: campaign, constant gain of new and powerful guns and armor (some armor makes you feel like an total badass), strike missions both on planet and separate (kind of like story, but harder and with a team), multiplayer (standard affair but with the twist of having fantastical abilities=fun), bounties (something that is meant to be done alongside other missions, boring if focused entirely on), as well as community events, which hopefully become more regular. The strikes and multiplayer is what will keep people busy as they are the best means of upgrading armor. The multiplayer being the main draw should be no major surprise as with Halo the multiplayer is what kept people playing for a while. That being said I have played 20 hours and just beat the story so that's pretty long.

All and all Destiny is a great, though not entirely perfect game, though should not be held back by hyped up dreams. So is Destiny worth a $60 buy, absolutely, one of the best next gen game on the market at the moment and likely to hang around for a bit.

I ran some beacon missions and yes they do get repetative, the story missions are poorly narrated, the enemies act almost exactly as I remember enemies did in halo 10 years ago, but once you get into what the game is about, coming together to overcome the odds and helping out random people, it becomes fun. Whilst patrolling I died a couple of times to find random people going out of their way to revive me back into the battle.

My only letdown is that there's no in game chat options, as when patrolling it would be nice to interact with others without having to invite them to party chat.

Otherwise I'm interested to see what is expanded upon going forward, unfortunately so many people seem intent on bashing the game because it's not what they expect it could stop people that might enjoy it from even bothering to buy.

Right now, the game is extremely fun to play in a casual way, and there are very difficult options available if you're more competitive.
The game has extremely tight controls for a console shooter - especially for how mobile the player character is.
That is to say, the gameplay is rock solid 10/10

The negatives are that the netcode isn't 100% perfect. I am not fully satisfied with how the MMO aspect has been handled - but then I'm reminded that nothing of this sort has ever been attempted before by any studio at this scale.

For all of its flaws, Destiny is an extremely polished product that can appeal to a very diverse user base and will only continue to expand.

Disclaimer: This game has a great blend of RPG elements and FPS elements. This blend is accomplished while conveying a good, kind of cryptic, story. What I am most satisfied with, that Borderlands did not do, is that the RPG elements of damage and firing a weapon poses little interference on the FPS elements. What I am most satisfied with, that Borderlands did not do, is that the RPG elements of damage and firing a weapon poses little interference on the FPS elements. The only similarity between Destiny and Borderlands is that it has RPG elements as a shooter. That's where the similarity ends. Talent progression, weapon progression, gear progression and leveling are completely different. Oh yeah, the graphics are also completely different.

Always Online. My job forces me to be gone with no internet for somewhat long periods of time, so yes, online only can suck. However, all the MMO's that I used to play are online only and I never complained about them. So what gives me or anyone else the right to negatively judge this game in this aspect when it was stated day 1? Face it, this game has enough MMO elements that it absolutely needs to be online. Stop complaining about something that you knew about in advance. This is not JUST an FPS.

Now, the review. I didn't give this game a 10/10 specifically for some of the story mechanics. I am not going to negatively review a game over talents or in game mechanics that can change with the flick of a hotfix.

Graphics 10 - Easy choice, this game is super polished and pulls out a lot of what the PS4 has to offer.

Game Play 10 - Much like Halo: CE the game play is very solid. There is little to nothing mechanically working against you. Mostly just the enemies working against you. When game mechanics are your enemy, you are far from solid. Getting that first blue weapon and being excited to get one of it's passives not something I have experienced in another game. Firing said weapon and validating it as being unique is also a very good feeling.

Community 9 - The lack of a chat window is both a gift and a curse. It's a gift for those of us who could care less about 9 - 12 year old's attempting to Troll. It can be a curse to those who are shy with a mic but this is a console game any way. I'd rather use voice than type with a controller, especially in a MMOish-FPSish game like this.

Story 9 - The story is outstanding and it has me hooked however being able to see the Grimoire cards in game would be nice. Bungie has also managed to keep the story mysterious as if you are actually trying to learn the history of the Earth from scratch. The one issue I have here is that I find many of my story missions or strikes (at some point) revolve around the Ghost getting me into a lot of trouble with it's addiction to hacking. Hacking very slowly I might add.

Competitive Multiplayer 10 - Yeah, getting waxed by everybody and they're mom wielding an Auto rifle can get frustrating but this is PvP. All the weapons can be countered if you use your weapon where it shines. They changed how tough you are while using a super from beta, which is a good thing regardless of how frustrating it can be when you are the victim. Nonetheless, the PvP is solid and the maps have decent variety. There are some things that I think need to be tweaked but like I stated earlier, this game will receive many patches in it's life and those tweaks will more than likely be in them.

I can see how many people instantly have negative feelings for anything that gets this amount of hype. This due to the fact that 85% of the things that get mega hyped fall short. I ask those people to try this game at a friends with their negative bias aside and prove this game wrong. Don't just play one mission and tap out. Get in a fire team, take on a strike, team up with some friends in the crucible and make this game flex for you. It will, and you will want to play it more.

What is most amazing of all is that despite its litany of weird little problems, Destiny is fantastic, its combat up there with the very best, the thrilling rhythm of its battles still not fading the 30th time through, and it has no single systemic problem that is not fixable. [Dec 2014, p.106]

Destiny is a flawed but still extremely fun first person shooter. While the Destiny universe itself seems intriguing, the storyline is told in such an incoherent manner that it's hard not to be turned off by all the technobabble. Fortunately the co-op shooter mechanics are absolutely perfect. The loot system can be maddening, but in a way it adds to the game's addictiveness. [Oct 2014]
