Other then that, what was over thousands of fans getting themselves into? The same old experience, the comfort zone. While still a early, and fresh IP, we still have yet to see any new patches, and or enhancements to what is already introduced into the game to cast gloom and doom on the game. It delvers keep into a cave that has been mostly cleared out of resources, and ores. Where we are sitting at is where the diamonds sit, and some coal. The game play while not anything innovative is very responsive, and handles great. The lack of voice over means nothing to me, nor others who do not want to hear squeakers anyway. So now you ask is the game worth buying? For the game itself, it offers a lot of the same old defend this, scenario. Offering no variety in depths of game play. Exploring is something a little bit more of a fresh pace. Then is still the same old thing after awhile. So a game with so much hype worth giving up now on? Game just came out a day ago, let the soup thicken before you zergy "critics" slap it down. Game is solid. Lets hope Bungie adds more to do, and game modes within the missions. That is the only thing it is really missing, music is great, game plays well, plenty of enemies to rag doll around. So work on that, and the game is solid. Expand

Giving this game a 0 is pathetic. Overall, I'm digging it. It's fun, pretty and engaging. I'm never bored, and I'm always excited to see what kind of gear im getting next. My only complaint is the story is a bit lacklustre. It's not terrible, and the universe is well defined, but there does seem to be something missing.

There are 3 different classes : Warlock , Titan , Hunter.
Each character has different and special abilities and this is where the game shines the most imo , The abilities are so fun to use and balanced , You may wanna create all 3 different characters to see what they all have to offer but to be honest ,They should of added more classes which would make the game much better with even greater replay value but it is still a great game either way.

The single play may get repetitive after about 10 hours of playing so you will feel the need of friends to play with you to make it better.

The multiplayer on the other hand is the best thing this game has to offer , The amount of hours you can spend in multipalyer is insane and its bloody fun , Everything in the multiplayer is well done from the voice of the British guy to the sounds of grenades and guns ,You can drive your sparrow or hop into a tank or get in a turret all of those are fun as well.

Weapons: Of course we can't talk about Destiny without talking about the weapons in it , There are a lot of variety in weapons from Pistols to shotguns to Rockets and each weapon is upgradeable and there is special ammo and special ammo the special ammo is for your primary weapon and the heavy ammo is for heavy weapons .

So is Destiny worth buying ? : the answer is if you like FPS games ,Hell yes go and buy it , IF you don't like FPS games then don't buy it . Simple as that.

The game imo deserves a 9/10 and that's due to lack of missions variety in single player and they could add more classes to the overall game , But its a great game indeed. I gave it a 10 to make things a bit balanced because as i see a lot of people are giving it a 0 , Which is stupid and trolling.

Bungie has developed four Halo games that everyone loved and they received extremely high scores from critics. These games only had a couple of alien races as enemies. The games all consisted of tight shooting controls, great soundtracks, single player game play, cooperative game play, and competitive multiplayer. Destiny is designed to be like Halo with many more options in the hands of the players. Halo had zero character upgrade and development features. Halo did not have a loot system or armor and weapon customization like Destiny has. Halo campaigns were only around 8-12 hours long. Nobody ever complained about the length of Halo games, or the lack of story, or the lack of enemy types. Now with Destiny, everyone acts like they were promised a 100 hour RPG or MMO. What Bungie has done here is take the Halo formula we all love and added character customization, weapon and armor upgrades, a loot system and awesome matchmaking systems that allow players to group up in fireteams and play together when they want. Public events and strike missions also make exploring the over world much more enjoyable than a linear map with sandbox battles. Just like with the Halo games, Bungie has created an awesome shooter experience with more character advancement and play options than ever before. The controls are tight, the soundtrack is fantastic, and the matchmaking systems work very well for the new generation of games. All the critics need to go back and look at their very own Halo reviews, and figure out how they can possibly give Destiny a lower score when so many new options have been added. The only reasoning is that once again, everyone set their expectations way too high. Every now then you have to utilize some common sense and ask yourself about the "fun" factor. Is this game fun to play? In my opinion, it's the funnest game Bungie has ever developed, therefore I'm giving it a score that it actually deserves! Thanks Bungie, keep the content coming. Expand

No this isn't the next Last of us, Fallout, Borderlands, or even Halo and it's not trying to be. Destiny has it's own unique story and that unfolds as you play in a thought out manner. Did you like it in Halo where you went to campaign mission and killed some things and then you went farther into the mission and farther into the map and killed some more things? Then you'll love Destiny.

Did you like it in Call of Duty where you cleared waves after waves of enemies while you sought after objectives and conquered the area? Then you'll love Destiny.

I also know that everyone is complaining about how it's just a "RIP OFF OF BORDERLANDS!"... Well I'm sorry to break this to you... but Borderlands used the "scaling items" gimmick from every other MMORPG in the world. Because guess what, they have scaling items just like that.

Borderlands: "OH COOL I GOT THIS LEVEL 15 GUN WHICH IS BETTER THAN MY LEVEL 13 GUN"

MMORPG: "OH COOL I GOT THIS LEVEL 15 SWORD WHICH IS BETTER THAN MY LEVEL 13 AX"

One of my big complaints, is how we don't have communications to other people near by. I really think the game needs proximity voice chat. Without it, I feel disconnected from other players on the map.

Also, the load screens are super long, but with the nicer graphics come longer load screens, so I'm kind of okay with that.

Either way, the game is great. And people who are hating to the point of giving it anything less than a 7, really aren't thinking about the situation or have no idea what they're talking about.

You may not consider this an MMO, but it is, and the main calling card of any MMO is something called end-game. I would argue that the "questing" portion of any MMO-type game is a very small portion of the total game's value.

If you have no idea what the concept of end-game is, or if that doesn't appeal to you, then go elsewhere and play another game. Judge this game for what it is, and stop giving it terrible scores because it's not the game you want it to be. Where else would that be appropriate? "Madden SUCKS because games only last 15 minutes!!! What? Yeah, I know there are a dozen other game modes to play that will give me a hundred hours of game time, but I want to complain about this part of the game!!!"

I like to compare Destiny with Borderlands 1. Sure there is a big gap between the budget of these to games and you really expect a really big thing when Bungie and Activision are making a game together.
Some people also say that the worlds are way to small.

So I've had a few weeks playing this game, I haven't done the raid, but I feel I know the game pretty well at this stage.

Firstly I can understand all the negative reviews, but any score between 1-5 can be summarily written off as some form of message to their perceived disappointment, and not a particularly good indication of the game itself. This is not a 1-5 game, the game plays exceptionally well, and has no bugs i've come into contact with. Whilst the story isn't great, it does open up a world of possibilities. However, the mission structures are poor, and the campaign is little more than a 6 out of 10, so I completely understand those scores.

That said I haven't stopped playing destiny since launch, I haven't played anything else during that time despite having several other unfinished games. The game goes beyond the campaign, people say it's grinding but I haven't really found that. The Co-op strikes are a lot of fun and in the higher difficulties pose a real challenge. The events mix things up a little and have new modifiers on old missions that make them interesting to play again (although some new ones would be nice). The Crucible is also a lot of fun, and i haven't found much in the way of unbalanced play, obviously the lower levels are at a slight disadvantage but if they're skilled they will own just as much as the higher levels, the gear and skills will never make a poor player good (unfortunately for me at least). It is however a little limited in options. But the Co-op missions, crucible, exotic bounty missions, randomly finding ship blu prints, public instances etc.... All of these things come together to make a game that is well beyond the initial poor campaign.

Some people have asked why they should play the game for so long to get to the real game, that isn't really the case it's all the real game it's just some parts are more fun than others. Should the campaign have been a lot better? Yes! It was distinctly average. Should there be more mission variety, yes! This seems extremely lazy from the developers and I hope to see the under utilised vehicles and characters used to better effect in the future. That said these are things that stop it from becoming a great game, it is as it stands a very good one with some minor annoyances. You may not like this game at all, but it isn't a bad game and it has some moments that cannot really be found better anywhere else, so for that reason it comes in as an 8 for me.

Let me preface this by saying I have played the "Beta" (It wasn't a Beta it was a server load test). I own the game. I bought it mainly to play co-op with my friends online. This game at it's heart is a first person shooter, and almost in all ways feels like one. Every now and then a random person or group will wander by you and shoot at something or waive to you, but other than that, think Halo.

Destiny takes many things from its console exclusive ancestor but it lacks the main reason we loved it. The story in Destiny is very, limited. In the short cutscenes you do briefly encounter, they speak of events, characters and things as if you hadn't just started playing. It gets more coherent down the storyline, but it just sort of throws you into this universe you have no connection with: 1) Because you know nothing of what has happened there and 2) Because of the lush jungles in... Venus? This is not the solar system I have called home.

In many ways level design is decent and pretty to look at, but shallow and constricting in most places without a map to reference your location. Most of the missions funnel you through narrowly defined passageways to other "Areas" of the world you are currently visiting. Your not without a waypoint so fear not.

Missions, while short are generally fun and a bit reminiscent of Halo. Later down the line you'll have to grind side quests to level up which is tedious and boring. Go here, kill things, repeat. Where the game truly becomes fun is at the seemingly random "Public events" which seem to have a defined, predictable location. It is genuinely fun to see tens of other guardians take down a Robot Spider Tank. It's seamless and the effects of the incoming dropships are very well done.

I wanted to LOVE this game but we are really just casually dating. Bungie promised a lot with this game they didn't deliver, apparently many of you agree. I however believe that the game, while a house of cards on top, is built with a robust and solid foundation. It's really up to you to have fun in this game, it won't make you have fun. Playing with friends is the only way to play this game, without them you feel like a lost mute, who can only wave :( . Anyways this game is pretty decent but nothing like it was supposed to be. I give it a 7 because it will hold me over till Farcry 4 which will be GOTY.

Reading a lot of these reviews, I see there's way too much whining about how 'it's the same as every fps' or it's a 'borderlands clone' or a 'halo clone'. Well, it's an fps rpg. Well, it's an fps rpg. Certain things were expected. Frankly, I love the gameplay of this. I like grinding for levels, gathering loot, and trying to find hidden things. But this is no borderlands. Borderlands is one of my favourite games, and after spending two years playing BL2, I can guarantee this is not the same. Shares some aspects though. And as far as Halo goes, it's really only the aesthetic that is shared. But that's a Bungie thing. Halo is a pretty generic fps within itself to begin with. Most fps games are. If people wanted more "original" games, then you'd actually support games that stray from the norm instead of generic fps games and then companies would start making them. However, that's how the market works. Tldr; The gameplay is great, but not anything all too new. It is enjoyable though.

The lack of chat is actually welcome to me, as I don't really want to converse with other people playing, so the choice of making a fireteam to chat with was a good idea. Not everyone wants to sit there and play with people they don't know, especially since I've got a history of being made fun of on online games for my gender. (Yes, I'm female.) I'd rather just go by myself and if people help me, they help me. Or if people need help, I help them. It's pretty simple.

Graphics wise, it's got it's ups and downs. Some things are absolutely stunning, while some things are like 'meh'. Overall, I'm very happy with how this game looks, and as usual, I love Bungie's designs.

Audio; okay seriously stop making the fallen scream in the background, it's really darn creepy when I'm in a map alone. Like, REALLY creepy.

TLDR; It's a good game, just not anything revolutionary. If you go in without expecting anything over the top amazing, you'll enjoy yourself. For anything though, you shouldn't go in with high expectations. Those who go in with them too high are always disappointed. But I'm enjoying this game and it's a permanent part of my collection.

I conquered the alpha, mastered the Beta, and am dominating the full release. I have also looked over around 1000 user reviews and understand where some of the negative and mixed reviews are coming from.

Destiny is amazing. It's a living, breathing, remarkable online world full of mystery and wonder. The graphics and music are top tier and bring this wonderful world to life. At the time of this review I understand that the game is not finished. Bungie it's planning on making an expansive world that will last for years to come. There is a lot of good in this game, but it falls short of a perfect review due to a few small shortcomings.

To start off, this game is gorgeous. The amount of detail that went into this game is just impressive. The enemy design is varied, but has some reminisce of Halo. Most negative users complain that there is only four or five enemies and they are all the same. Well obviously they never left Earth. On Mars there is the Cabal, giant massive hulks that feel reminiscent of hunters from Halo. On Venus there are Vex, sentient machines full of malice and wonder. The Moon houses the Hive, space zombies if you will and extremly terrifying. On Earth are the Fallen, the main enemy of humanity and reminiscent of the Covenant from Halo. You can fight most of these enemies in multiple locations as well, forcing you to change your equipment and tactics often.

Destiny is absolutely beautiful. From the gun designs to the locations you will visit, you can tell thousands of dedicated hours went into this game. The UI is simple and inviting and gets the job done extremly well. There is tons of customization for your character from appearance to guns; classes to abilities; even level up stats are available to your character and equipment. One thing you should know is that you will be upgrading and changing your gear often. This in turn means you will be replaying missions often to find better loot and progress your character.

The story is expanding. This is just the start for Bungie and Destiny. Through weekly events and expansions, the world and story will only grow more epic and engaging. There is plenty to do and lots to discover. Every planet has its own giant area to scout, where you can explore and do basic fetch quests for items and xp, but the quests can get slightly repetitive. Mars stuck out to me the most because there was so much going on for a planet that I assumed would just be red sand. Do not listen to those saying the worlds are tiny. There are hidden caves and massive caverns hidden everywhere when you explore and I am still constantly getting lost and exploring new areas each time I play.

The multiplayer aspect of this game is pretty primitive. The missions require you to party up before you start and if you do not have a few friends with PS4's, I would recommend getting Destiny on a console you have friends on. It was frustrating playing with random team members due to a lack of communication tools and the fact that players would often leave the game mid way through. Destiny is all about the multiplayer aspect and you would expect a game so focused on multiplayer to have a basic matchmaking system. Luckily, many of my friends own PS4's so the lack of matchmaking on missions didn't bother me to much. Also, it should be noted that playing PvP is most enjoyable with team members that communicate and work together complete goals. The PvP can be a fun distraction from playing missions and strikes and could hold together as a primary reason to come back to this game for months to come. As PvP goes, it's basic FPS game types versus human players.

Destiny was an extremly over hyped game. Between fan speculation, rumors, and the Alpha/Beta many fans were expecting more. Don't get me wrong there is plenty to do in this game, but many other user reviewers seemed to think Destiny would be a completely different game from the Beta build. It is very much so a RPG FPS first, rather than a MMO. It handles like most FPS's and is in no way revolutionary like some where expecting. This however does not make it a bad game. It takes many concepts from other games and mashes them together to make a super enjoyable shooter. Just don't buy Destiny intending it to reinvent the wheel.

Destiny is a fantastic game. It will grow into a new universe and be a new franchise rising in popularity as years progress. It's a polished FPS with RPG elements that make it fun and varied. There is a lot to see and explore and will keep you entertained for years to come. It is lacking in the multiplayer area, but if you have friends dedicated to play you will have a enjoyable gaming experience. Look past the negitive reviews and understand that while Destiny may not reinvent the wheel, it rolls along quite well. 8/10

-GAMEPLAY: The gameplay is fun especially when you have friends to play with and help out. The controls are smooth and you feel like you are in total control. However there is no over world map you can see; only the one where you pick a mission on the planet of your choice. The gameplay gets very redundant after so long and Bungie really needs to make the areas much larger. 7/10 for gameplay.
-MULTIPLAYER: The multiplayer in Destiny is your run of the mill team death match, capture the flag, and free for all. With this being an MMO it is essentially a multiplayer game in itself but the strict multiplayer element is very basic and just like Call of Duty. 5/10 for Multiplayer.
-VERDICT: Destiny is a fun game and great social experience for those who want the most out of their PS4. It has beautiful graphics and smooth gameplay but the story is just plain terrible. If you like a social experience and like to try a fun game while it may last you a short while try this game. For an overall score of 7/10.

Destiny has it's hooks in me. It's a short storyline, and a grind for gear after that (which is not a bad thing). Think Borderlands/ Diablo 3. Solid game-play mechanics makes it a competitive, skill based shooter. Destiny would rank among the greats of all time if it hadn't fell short on some major themes. First, and foremost- communication. It's absolutely ridiculous you cannot voice chat with the Guardians around you. I often feel alone, even when surrounded by others. Second, the story line is sub-par at best. Stereotypical writing, and no major surprises along the way. I'm currently level 20, and I still have no idea what I am, who I am, and why I'm doing what I'm doing. I want to have some emotional reactions to characters, but it just never meets the mark. Third, and my final complaint is the repetitive nature of the mission. Ghost scans something, you fight off hordes. However, these are things that can easily be fixed in future updates, and i look forward to that happening. This is by far the best console game of the next generation. Had Bungie implemented a legit chat system, this game would have been a solid 9.5. However, it's enjoyable as it's stands and I've gotten my 60 dollars worth in the first 3 days alone. Ingame voicechat: works perfect, crystal clear.
Coöp experience: awesome, having tons of fun.
Learning curve: it's steep, but what do you expect of a new game? Put in some effort.
PVP: I don't really like it (pulse rifles are WAY overpowered), would be nice to have 10v10 or even bigger battles.
Storymode: it's OK, sometimes you gotta go back to the same place a few times, but the views man... Amazing.

First and foremost, it is one of the best shooters I have played in my life. The game-play mechanics are amazing. Everything seems to flow well when it comes down to the shooter aspects. Even though the game-play mechanics are amazing, the game lacks in story and content.

The first thing I have to say about this game is that if you followed in the wake of the hype train you will be hugely disappointed. That being said, I believe if you were that hyped about a game in this day and age you only have yourself to blame.

The game overall is solid. It has good gameplay, graphics, music, and sound. The storyline is almost non existent, but being published by Activision may have had something to do with that. They have always been a company about money first and quality second so the gaming community should have expected the base game to lack features that will most likely be added as future DLC.

Putting story aside (this is an fps after all) the game itself is fun. And first and foremost that is what matters. Is there complexity to the game? Not really. Is there explosive action on a grand scale? It's hit or miss on that one. On one note you get fast paced gunplay, but there's not much destruction other than grenades exploding or vehicles being destroyed. There is no destructive terrain, or much in the way of cinematic detail, but the actual combat is still addictive.

In my opinion the content that the game provides is a good foundation for more to come. At the moment of this writing there are already planned events in the works. It will be up to the community to decide if these are a good addition to the game but for now there is enough to do for a game starting out.

There is a campaign which is mainly an excuse to hit the level cap, and there Is Pvp to test your abilities against other players (just like your standard shooter). There are also optional quest to keep you busy. Strikes (baby raids), patrol missions (grind kills/fetch quest) and bounties (do X objective with abilities/kill enemies a certain way), and all of this Is a nice time sink if you like things like that. Just like most online RPGs have things like this to keep you busy till the next purchase.

Destiny does it's job decently but it does need improvement. The skill trees are lackluster. The enemy AI is simplistic and the boss fights leave much to the imagination. The storyline will hopefully be expanded and more in depth in the future. All of these things and more must be fixed and fine tuned to make this game worth higher than a 7 but for now the game is still worth playing. Having friends makes the experience better as well. The Bungie team has succeeded before and I believe they will again given enough time and patience.

For now the ultimate way to know if the game is for you or not is to play it yourself. Watch some streams, see some let's plays, go to a friend's house and play it. Give it a chance and if you like it post an honest review about it. If you like it then welcome to the family and if you don't then you can always avoid the game, save your 60$ and play something else.

People have to remember that it's only the beginning and really there are updating the game with new content every couple of weeks. I think that people that are pissed about the story and forget that they loved Halo and there wasn't much story in that in the beginning either. Also remember assassins creed for the record started the same way. I actually did like the story in halo and played the campaigns for each one. I think that this game has an amazing potential and as updates come and go it will come out more and more. If you honestly think they spent five years developing a story and the first 20-25 levels was going to reveal it all to you, I could see why you would be disappointed. Remember that reviving dead ghosts also reveals a good amount of back story if you take the time to check it out. The game looks beautiful, mechanics are great and smooth, bungie paid major attention to detail in which few games ever do. I find the loading screens and cut scenes beautiful and the music gets ready to play before each PVP match. I am not some fanboy of any one style of game and as a matter of fact I don't care for first person shooters. I usually buy and stop playing within a week or two. I will be playing destiny for a long time. Expand

...well I must say, I never expected the negative reviews to be this...abundant. But you should pay more attention to the fact that there are more positive reviews than negative on this site. And it's for good reason. No, it's not worth the extreme over-hype, but It's still VERY much worth your time. I've played it since the alpha, and it's still a good game. Pay no attention to the PC players raging because they have to wait a year, pay no attention to the people who don't have steady internet access, pay attention to people who have ACTUALLY PLAYED it, instead of spectators. I'll admit, the game didn't look all too impressive by looks, but playing it is a completely different experience. And about the whole "Halo clone" concept...it has Halo elements, and you can see it, they even used a sound effect from Halo in it, I thought of it as nostalgia. It's not COMPLETELY Borderlands + Halo, but it's a mild version of it. You level up and gain attributes to your skills like Borderlands, you can get subclasses, the environment and movement feel like Halo, as well as enemies. The story may not be much to brag about...but, in an MMOFPS with RPG elements, I'm surprised people were looking for The Last of Us-tier story-telling. It wasn't made by Telltale, so try not to expect it. Overall, this game is extremely fun, and it's certainly a treat with friends. If you want to be able to talk with people, I've been invited by strangers in levels, in other words, you can make friends relatively simply, you can even just dance next to them in town (lol).

I am writing this review to correct for an earlier review which I now believe is in need of an update. I had previously rated this game a 9, having played it much more extensively I have revised my opinion to a seven. The reasons for this are as follows:

The game should only be played with friends. If you have plenty of friends to play with this game will feel like an 8 or a 9. If you've got numerous and regular gaming buddies; it is probably one of the best games on next gen. I have played almost the entirety of my time with mates and it has been, for the most part, very enjoyable. The gameplay is excellent and exceedingly polished. That said, if you are ever unfortunate enough to have to play by yourself, or with randoms, you will likely find it much less enjoyable. This is because...

There is no story. This is not strictly true; there supposedly is a very deep and fascinating story, we just dont get to see any of it. There's a moment near the start where Bill Nighy says to your character something along the lines of "I could tell you of the battle that raged hundreds of years ago, i could tell you of [insert other crucial piece of context here]" but he doesn't, and neither does anyone else. It makes for an incredibly uncompelling campaign. There are a lot of reviews here spouting "in media res!" acrimoniously like everyone's suddenly a classics scholar and/or a lawyer. This is rather besides the point. The problem is not how the story is told but that it is not told at all. There is quite simply almost no story content whatsoever. The vast majority of the storyline is communicated either via the mission headings in the navigation menu or through running commetry from Peter Dinklage. That character is awful by the way. Genuinely, every line he speaks is so incredibly banal it actually sucks the fun from the game. Regardless, most of the time you will only have a vague idea of what is going on and you will almost certainly not care. Poor or sparse narration can be made up for by a rich game world, Destiny fails on this count also. The tower is more sterile than most hospitals. Pick the crappiest most rubbish hub from any of mass effect 1,2 or 3; it is twice as interesting as the tower. Honestly, penguin chat is better than the tower. It is sparsely populated with npcs, none of whom will talk to you, most of which will sell you a selection of five items. In most cases; two of them you cant use and three of them are rubbish. Now this changes a bit at high level, mainly because you can now use all the items but they now all suck. Once you realise that the tower is totally devoid of content you may attempt to explore beyond its walls. Don't bother, there really is nothing unique or special hiding anywhere in the gameworld. Golden chests can result in some good loot, but every significant landmark or area will be reached in the course of the campaign which, for better or worse, is pretty brief. There is no hidden lore. The grimoir cards are an interesting addition, but have no appreciaable effect upon the games failed narrative.

The PvP is great fun, but it's not Halo. Bungie has delivered an impressive PvP experience that feels and plays a lot like a Halo game. This is not a bad thing, seeing as it was one of the greatest multiplyer series of all time. Those who have played Halo will realise that it isn't quite as tight as Halo 3/4/Reach and simply doesn't provide the same kind of variety of game types that those games did. There are also some persitant server side issues, be prepared for a statistically unlikely number of simultaneous deaths.

Overall, the game gives the impression that it is somehow unfinished. The total amount of content isn't particularly large for such a big release. Occasional foibles suggest a lack of attention to detail. For example; Warlock players will be disappointed that many of their class items look completely identical, meanwhile the Titans peacock around with their considerable variety of towels. Furthermore the item descriptions are a somewhat disjointed, and appear to have all been written by an exhausted intern over a two hour period. "Titan armour is heavy enough to crack stone" Really? How fascinating.

I would recommend playing this game with friends (or even just join a Facebook group and add people there) because doing missions solo may be slightly difficult, even if you are at the recommended level. I'm currently level 16 and been enjoying the hell out of this game.

I saw some reviews saying leveling up too fast may hurt in the long run, but I can say it won't because there are going to be a LOT of content for those that are for max level players.

As a MMOFPS/RPG, I'd say Destiny is really successful and satisfies those elements. When you see people saying how it's like any other FPS games, you have to think about this, WHAT ELSE DO YOU WANT FROM AN FPS GAME?! Like seriously, FPS = run, kill, knife, shoot etc. I don't know what these people want from FPS.

I mean yes, Destiny is a great game but doesn't necessarily live up to the hype it had, but it's one hella fun of a game. And honestly, if a game is FUN, it's doing it's job. Just ignore all those idiotic haters and have some fun.

Alot of people are complaining about bosses having a high health... have you guys played a mmo game before? Plus maybe your not killing them because you have not put the time in to developing your weapons and matching armor to suit your play style? Destiny isn't bad, but I don't like it. The multiplayer isn't good enough to make me leave BF4 or Titanfall and the single player story is nowhere near Halo 4. I also remember the ghost robot having character, one scene where he offers to switch on the lights in a dark dungeon and then flies off muttering some amusing patter had me believing that he would resemble "Wheatley", the hilarious robot from Portal 2.

The game feels diluted from what we were shown and told it would be. That does not make it a zero though, in fact there is a lot of fun to be had once you cancel your expectations from E3.

The shooting is fun and the controls are solid. The locations look really good and the sounds compliment the atmosphere well. Once the loot system gets a hook into you it does not let go and there is always the temptation for "just one more" to see if you can unlock that next rare item or skill upgrade. It feels good to race around some of the missions with friends on the shrike vehicles. The pvp feels well put together and is enjoyable at this stage. Those who like the grind will benefit from the contracts that can be completed in exchange for xp. There is definitely scope here to expand on this new IP and that is what a lot of people have been waiting for since the new consoles released.

The game is nowhere near a 10 either. The locations, whilst looking great, are not large enough. The enemies are not intelligent or varied in their attack methods. There are not a great variety of enemies. there is not enough variety in weapons from the same family ie a level 1 shot gun will not operate in a different way to a level 20 shot gun only the inflicted damage seems to be the difference. Those who remember the gun porn from borderlands will be expecting more and although you will not find as many mediocre weapons as there were in borderlands, they also feel quite tame in comparison.

Speaking of borderlands it is worth noting that this game takes itself more seriously than borderlands. The humor is replaced with an emphasis on tension. The option to dance with other players feels a little out of place in this universe.

In summary the game is good and if handled correctly there are many directions that Bungie could take the ip with fresh dlc and new ideas (new weapon types, new vehicle types, Forza style customization options for absolutely everything, multiplayer random game type events like the Gears of War series used to come up with.) to shake things up once it becomes stale. In a dry market this is well worth your time and in its current state the game is a solid seven.

With the loss of Joe Staten, Lead Writer, a year before launch and the legal issues with Marty (composer) it seems that what we were supposed to receive and what we did receive were two VERY DIFFERENT THINGS. The game appears to have been butchered and bastardized by the monetization division of Activision - cutting all meaning out of the game to be sold in some odd fashion as DLC.

A terrible disappointment for those of us who actually thought that there would be something of significance in Destiny. I look forward to seeing what Joe Staten will do with Game of Thrones with Telltale, where writing is valued.

Like many people, I got really excited about Destiny. I preordered the PS4 bundle, and I've been anxiously anticipating it for a few months now. Honestly, the gameplay seems to have barely changed at all since the beta (which I don't have a problem with), the graphics are absolutely stunning, especially compared to the PS3 (which I played the beta on), and so far I've really enjoyed everything I've done.

It is true that it takes quite a bit of inspiration from Borderlands, and I don't think it gives the same feeling that Borderlands does. The maps are rather small, and the missions can get a bit repetitive, but I honestly have a lot of fun playing this game and I plan on playing it for quite a while.

This game is a perfect game for a casual gamer, or a lover of all genres such as myself. If you want to create a stealth orientated sniper, you can. If you want an all around shooter, you can have it. This game is about choice, and how you want to play it is completely up to you. The beautifully designed levels allow for the ability to snipe from far or run in guns blazing. The ability to call in a land speeder (Sparrow) at the press of a button, then jolt off and triple jump up to a ledge to surprise an unsuspecting enemy allows for the "Unreal Tournament" speed orientated game play some people prefer. The numerous obstacles and hideaway coves allow for the sneaky sniper to duck out of the way and take enemies from afar. The flawless blend from multi-player to single player and vice versa make the game seem to have it all. It may be aesthetic, but the "Orbit mode" mode/level selection is really what creates this flawless blend.

I was suspecting there would be a terribly awful amount of server lag and countless problems with the initial week or so until everyone settled down. I was pleasantly surprised, there were no issues at all! A little bit of waiting time, but nothing to really even take notice of. Bungie/Activision has really set the bar for other games considering the amount of sales they had. No more excuses for day 1 lag or server overload, especially considering there isn't a monthly fee and the ENTIRE game is online.

Overall this game is great, it TOUCHES all aspects perfectly. It may not be as in depth with character customization as Skyrim, it may not be as open world and exporable as GTA V, it may not have the weapon and power options of WoW, it may not have the number of weapons as Borderlands, or the multiplayer FPS of halo (Although it's CLOSE here) but it blends all of these perfectly to appeal to every audience. It is not a Halo clone and it is not an MMO, sorry fanboys. It gave everything it promised and delivered an experience that should keep me busy for a long time, especially considering the DLC and updates we know it will have in the near future.

Yeah, i just read a heap of mixed reviews from the top reviewers and they all seem to contradict each other in every aspect of the game that i'm begining to wonder that because they weren't perked with playing the game longer than a day before release, that maybe it's time to throw in some incoherant negative slang.

This is probably something you need to experience rather than reading up on, Reviewers are either just idiots, or not getting the big picture, fans that are enjoying the game are still probably too busy playing it to give their 2 cents and the players that aren't seem to be the ones who have teamed up with other idiots, calling a mojority of strike missions a "1 hour grind for minimal reward", i'm not an FPS champion or anything, but if you can't complete a strike mission in under 15-25 minutes, you might want to rethink how your fireteam is approaching it.

Even one well-known review site loved to rant about how how the landscapes were unimaginative, dull and lifeless, whereas i'm onboard with the others who agree it's the best i have ever seen. I'm in awe from the moment i touch down on every planet, too busy marvelling at every vista as an optimal sniper's nest and wondering if i'll ever be able to access that leviathan-sized ship in the distance one day on Venus which brought back that Mount Hyjal nostalgia in Vanilla WoW. Hell, if i'm waiting for my fireteam to come online, i even just sit on the tower ledge, looking at the city under the traveller - remincent of Coruscant, thinkin' bout life and stuff.

Anyway, i'm loving every aspect of it, so i'll just throw in the only negative, the story. a bit too short and vague in terms of whats really going on, i won't give any spoilers, but i felt there were alot of peices missing and feeling a bit guilty being ceremoniously congratulated for minimal effort in story missions in contrast to the more diffucult strike missions. I was told in the last cutscene basically "the fights not over, the war has just begun...blahh..blahh.." - i thought, f***, i should hope so! Wether that was intentional for Bungie to not give too much detail away this early, time will tell. I'll be optimistic and suspect these first baby-steps into the game was more intended for us to soak in the serenity and feel of the game on a happier mood, ignorant to the darker details going on behind the scenes of the Destiny Universe to come.

Still slugging away at hard mode strikes, story missions and bounties in crucible, It's been done before numerous times, but i'd never known a grind to be this enjoyable, One thing i love, love, love about this game is during Boss encounters on strikes - each time i play with new people, they share their own different insight on how to approach the encounter either through instruction or by example to the point that there is countless ways to effectively handle a fight with more freedom to take on whatever role you like, a breath of fresh air from the predictability and repetition on other MMO boss fights.

This is just my opinion on observation, but there is a nice holy-trinity that is becoming quite effective in encounters which isn't neccesarily class-biased: The Kiter/Tank - The Reviver/Sniper - The Crowd Controller. You will find in a good group, all 3 in your fireteam will adopt these roles and remarkably change on variable situations such as ammo runs, player deaths and aggro. I'm liking the diversity of roles in such few class-choices.

When i began playing Destiny i must say that I was quite underwhelmed, it felt bland and repetitive for the first 3-4 hours, and i was a little bored due to the fact that i was playing the same thing i basically played in the Beta. But as I began to progress and level up(I started to really enjoy the game when i got around level 8), i began to care about my items and leveling and began jumping into squads with a couple of friends and became hooked. I will admit that the game can feel repetitive at times (the missions are basically, go here, kill them, kill boss, hold off enemies, repeat) but the controls, the ambiance, and the fun with friends is just so much so that it keeps me coming back for more. I admit, i can understand if someone doesn't like or enjoy the game, everyone is different, but for me this is one of the best fps' i have played in awhile. Expand

The game is not an MMO, the hype made it seem that way through false interperetations, and Bungie never labeled this game as an MMO, just that it would take some aspects from them. This game takes it's own stab at a new type of game that takes aspects from some of the best games out there, but still manages to do its own thing. It has at least seven hours of campaign, not including strikes, but the gameplay is fluid and rewarding, and it makes you want to play for hours continuously. The game is the perfect mix of a first person shooter that integrates the single player and multiplayer almost perfectly to my liking. The game is immense although not described as that, and the customization is unique and fun to work with. The multiplayer is also one of the coolest I've played in a while, and while most people are (like IGN), it can't be rated on whether it is competitive enough. The gameplay is by almost no means repetitive until after 20 hours, having four different worlds and a good library of multiplayer maps. Granted, the game does have flaws even though they don't take away from the game and the experience Bungie wanted you to have. The story is slow, the gameplay and mood are superb, the multiplayer is fun and diverse, the sound is enjoyable and the graphics are stunning. While the game is big, it is not as big as some would expect but neither are a lot of other very important games. If the hype didn't reach such a high point, this game would score a 9 on any website period. Expand

To be honest, the game feel itself is great, you can feel like such a badass when you walk into a room and just destroy all the enemies with easy headshots, but the games way of increasing difficulty is to just throw wave after wave of enemies at you which make the encounters drag on for too long, which gets boring.

One major complaint of mine is that they increased the strike difficulty for solo players, and with the way the RNG based loot is dolled out is unbelievably unfair, and so it wasn't worth it to me to try and find a strike team of strangers, because the chance at a good reward just isn't good enough. It used to be fun for me to run the nightfall solo, but Bungie essentially took away the game I bought and was having fun with, and for what, so I might force my friends buy the game so they can run the strike with me? When one hears stories from people who have played the strikes and raids every single week since release, who STILL haven't got the loot they want (usually the gallarhorn) it really hits me that you can go through all that effort and struggle for nothing?

If you are a solo gamer don't get this game, there is nothing for you except an extremely weak story that only takes a few hours to play through, and then you are on a pointless and frustratingly random loot treadmill. And their attitude towards their fans really sucks, right now the issue is they want fans to rebuy content they already own if they want the new emotes, but they have always had an arrogant attitude of "you will play this game the way we want to you to play". Yeah I'm probably still a little salty about how Bungie basically said get with a group or GTFO of our game, with regards to running the nightfall solo, and this was back long before they finally implemented matchmaking for even the weekly strike. I suppose I should thank them for lifting my veil of addiction, I won't be spending my money at their casino anymore!

Vault of Glass has already proven that they weren't kidding the raid is insanely difficult and involves mechanics that remind me of my days raiding in WoW... This game has rekindled that love for MMO's I once had and given me the opportunity to start fresh and try to keep with the pack and not play a constant game of catch up. Familiar controls, gorgeous artwork, great potential, fun character classes that don't feel like any one has a advantage over the other, proof that raids won't be simple as **** and that completing even the first part of vault of glass felt amazingly rewarding to complete, and so many more things. The biggest key to enjoying Destiny is approaching with an open mind and understanding what you want out of an MMORPG. Bungie did their best to cater to the softcore players as well as the hardcore raiders and they did a good job and anyone who wanted to get a taste of raiding in the first few weeks was dropped as a baby... The idiotic comments on here bashing Destiny before it is even off the ground are so frustrating I can barely put together a comment that doesn't consist of derogatory remarks towards all the moronic commenters who's reviews are going to potentially lose Bungie 2.5million in money that should be going towards developing more future content.... What is most amazing of all is that despite its litany of weird little problems, Destiny is fantastic, its combat up there with the very best, the thrilling rhythm of its battles still not fading the 30th time through, and it has no single systemic problem that is not fixable. [Dec 2014, p.106]

Destiny is a flawed but still extremely fun first person shooter. While the Destiny universe itself seems intriguing, the storyline is told in such an incoherent manner that it's hard not to be turned off by all the technobabble. Fortunately the co-op shooter mechanics are absolutely perfect. The loot system can be maddening, but in a way it adds to the game's addictiveness. [Oct 2014]
