Hello game Destiny released in 2014, the games from 2000 (or earlier) want their mapping techniques back again when your finished with them. I was less critical of this game when I hadn't spent time with it, the more time I spend with it the more I hate it. I so wish I hadn't pre-ordered the digital version, at least you can take the disk back to the store and trade it in for a real game like angry birds. What a heap of sh*&*t. Expand

This game would be the best game ever if it was actually FINISHED!!! Everything about it is great but the game feels like huge chunks are missing. If you buy, it's basically a free-roam CoD mixed with Halo.

    Buy with caution...

While this game is good and looks good, the game is insanely repetitive.
level 18, 20, 22, hard and heroic strikes are all the same just with metered damage output.
I really didn't want to do that beta septimus prime strike again, I did that enough. This game would definitely benefit from separate strike for different difficulties. I enjoyed my access to the vanguard armoury level 10

Overall good game but as said very, very, very, very repetitive.
Did I mention this game is very repetitive?

Destiny is boring, with not only no interesting additions to the genre, but poor execution of the basics. Not interesting, not fun, not challenging. Extremely disappointing.

It's a sign of BAD decisions ruled by marketing and hype arround videogames. Everything from bullshots, gameplayless teasers, downgraded graphics, DLC and lack of polish is included, Is this the evolution of gaming?

The fact that the story is non-existent that sends you to the website to read cards to piece together the damn story (which is allegedly from the original version of the game before they were told to turn it into an MMO-style game) should be your first warning. This game is such a big letdown. While, I never was a fan of Halo I can say that this game plays and looks great (there is nothing inherently wrong with the mechanics of game play)... the problem is you're paying full price for a game with limited missions, limited weapons, armor and enemies.

The fact that content was recently discovered to have been CUT OUT OF THE GAME only to be sold to us later is just a HUGE slap in the face to gamers everywhere. Ask yourself "why would I play DLC for a level 10 strike on Earth when many of us are already level 25?"--assuming that that cut content is actually going to be released. The fact that they've fired writers and composers didn't bode well for Destiny either. The soundtrack is the best part of the game to me... I could have saved myself $45 by just buying the soundtrack off of iTunes and gotten just as much enjoyment out of this game. If you like shooting things over and over mindlessly and playing the same levels over and over... grinding away to upgrade items then this game is for you. I beat this game in less than a week and I was only playing about 3-4 hours at a time most days and now there's nothing else to do... so unless they add in NEW content via their servers it's pretty much DOA.

I thought there was going to be more to the game than what was in the beta but it's the same types of weapons and only 3 more worlds. You can tell they put a lot of time into the design of the characters, lore and ships to build this world but they just pissed it all away to appease Activision and get it out there. Destiny should be held as an example of what not to do when you're developing a game. I should also add that the fact that you can only play with 3 of your friends at a time for strikes and main missions is just stupid. Most games do 4 players these days and that leaves out one of my friends that could be playing with us. This game was without a doubt over-hyped... I wasn't even all that interested in it until I played the Beta and fell for it hook line and sinker. All these people telling you how weapons are customize-able--compared to actual RPGs and games like Battlefield--it's a joke. I don't normally buy anything from Activision and I have a feeling this will be the last time. Do yourself a favour and just go back to playing Borderlands or Diablo III. We had Titanfall, Watch Dogs and now... Destiny. Here's to a better year of well-designed games in 2015.

First off, the story was a freaking disaster. Compared to their masterpiece, Halo, this "game" was a nightmare. Next off, the repetition in this game that many agree upon is annoying. Daily missions and strikes are all from campaign mission. Everything is a constant grind to grab the best gear to level up. Fighting low levels yield the same results as fighting high level bosses? The abilities and skills were pretty bland. Health and shield system is definitely ripped off Halo. No single player option. High level strikes require players to find their own groups of six which is annoying. There are other problems that I may have missed, but **** it. I am believe that this game is not worth the 60$. Do yourself a favor and spend it on something more worthwhile.

The truth is that while there's obvious skill and experience in the FPS mechanics and gameplay, Bungie has failed almost completely in building a living, interesting, believable game world. The fact that it is so small, each "planet" about the size of three or four CoD MP maps strung together, would almost work in its favor if there were more to do in those tiny worlds -- but there's not. Whether you're playing through the story or farting around alone or with friends, you're going to be doing the same things in the same places in a matter of hours, the repetition setting in and growing until, around three days in, you just can't stand it anymore.

Social game, Bungie warned the reviewers. No one could possible review this game (threatening implication implied) until playing it for a week, and any site that does is "suspect!" Despite the fact that they've been reviewing games MUCH bigger, much more complex and rewarding, than Destiny for over a decade, Bungie strong-armed the press into keeping stum about the inadequacies of Destiny. And judging from user feedback (like mine, and my friends') delaying those reviews probably worked a treat for Activision/Blizzard's bottom line, because none of us would have bought this if we'd read what we all know now. Sure, some seem to love it. But just as many feel it's a cynical, under-delivery on the hyperbole that was this game's marketing campaign.

And it's a shame, because there is real talent here. If some work had been put into story, some effort into marking what competitors, from MMOs to RPGs, have been establishing as genre-standards for size of worlds and complexity of habitation. Hell, if you could simply bloody talk to the other gamers about! So much opportunity. Did Bungie think they were mixing a cocktail so potent they didn't need to meet those standard expectations? We may never know.

One thing I do know is I'll never pre-order a game again. Never. If the publishers want to play games with reviews, want to rig the game, then I'll happily wait a few weeks and see if their wares are worth buying. Especially if it's got Activision on its label.

I´m afraid that Bungie/Activision have failed.
It has turned out to be an extremely repetitive, unimaginative and twodimensional game. Can they fix it? Maybe, but that would force them to start almost from scratch and that won´t happen.

To give this a 10 is as wrong and deluded as givin it a 0. 3 - 4 is fair in my book.
Very very boring pretty much sums it up.

Although the game was pitched and hyped very well, I find the content reminiscent of some Korean MMOs. In fact, the lack of story content is very disappointing. The FPS component of the game and the PvP portions of the game are what prop it up. The amount of the content on release is just poor and the game outside of PvP is grindy and RNG based.

First thing I noticed, after buying the game soon after the release, was advertisement of expansion packs from day1 - this was the first warning message as I know what it smells like (LITE version of the product with DLCs which multiple the price of the final product by 4.
But heck, if the game is really cool, I can survive that (have quite some experience with MMORPG products that follow the same route).

So to give you an idea on my feelings after playing bit beta:
Shooting felt satisfying, graphis were nice and the idea of online pve shooter in Sci-fi environment sounded plausible. After an hour or two sessions during the beta, I felt bit bored and always went back to other games I had. Game looked polished, shooting was fine, but it was just missing something which is not easy to describe with one particular word - it felt like a shooter mix with a little bit of other games, without actual good plan on how to put things together to give players a feeling of a complete product.
    - You do have Tower as a base, but I kind of assumed there will be few of those and they will be full of life and interaction once the game goes life.
    - There are different missions and areas on the planet, but you basically start from same point and go little bit further or turn once different direction for smaller area which is designed for this particular mission.
    - Other players are on the same map, but you cannot communicate with them unless they are in your fireteam and they might be basically doing some other mission or patrol in similar area, so wont help you much in your duty.
    - weapons have stats and slightly different looks, but we've seen them all and they look more like from game set in 2020 than production set long long time in the future.
    - there are skills but I did not really feel any diversity between classes

Those were my few points I noticed after some hours with Beta, hoping that there is some more as lvl cap was 20 and I reached only lvl 6 and was on the first planet. After all shooting as a core was done very well!

So I bought the game with hope that the full version has some more to offer than I already saw.
Indeed there were more planets, the story went further (so I assume from poping up notifications to visit website), I leveled higher and improved my character.
Problem is, it felt like "mishmash" and that the Beta had everything the full game has to offer.

I tried to follow the story, but the missions were so uninspiring that I forgot what the story is about very fast. With nice cinematics at the beginning of the journey, you would expect some nice cutscenes implemented in the game. Missions are always the same... and I don't think the word "same" is exaggeration. You go to spot B, deploy ghost who does some decoding, etc. while he works you defeat few waves of enemies, go to another spot and defeat level boss with minions. boss fights are always the same - kill minions, jump out, hit boss weak spot and hide again to regenerate.
I haven't played engame, as after reading that it is just same strikes I have just been to and doing them on higher level (which means more hp of enemies), I decided it is not my style of grinding.

Communication and feeling of belonging to a community in this game is made very bad, in my opinion. Unless community is considered as a fireteam created with friends from PSN, then Bungie did heck of a job to prevent getting to know new folks and have fun together. Biggest flaws I find are little amount of people in Tower you can meet, no chat even though console supports external keyboard. There is also no trading with other players or any clan/guild functionality.

Other issue is loot and its variety. There are few types of weapons but they are not really inspiring weapons. Shotgun looks like a shotgun, rifle like a rifle. Weapons have different stats and colours, but I have not noticed much of a difference between the look of weapon on lvl 3 till end of the game.

Games I have played with focus on loot grinding were more enjoyable, but have to say that some of them started also from the wrong foot and improved as the game developed, which might be the case for Destiny's destiny.

The game had some nice moments, like first strikes which I attended were quite fun and had this feeling of a relief after clearing the last boss. However, after doing it for a while, it lost fun factor and I had to force myself to clear them, which should not be the case.

Please note that I did not have friends to play with, so I either played alone or strikes with PUG.
I guess the experience enhances with few good folks you can have fun with, but well, I didn't buy into this game enough to keep it for months on the shelf to see how company develops it

The game has a lot of Halo, like the needle weapons the enemy uses against you, but you don't get to enjoy them because the enemy does not drop weapons. You would get the occasional and very seldom loot but not as often to be satisfactory. In other words, I totally get the low reviews, although it does not deserve anything below 5 for sure, in my opinion the game is a 6 or 7. Technically is very good, but at this point in the history and development of games, it is lacking a lot. Maps are big but small because of a lack of differentiation from one place to another. They should have shot for something like Red Dead Redemption where you see how the map changes and it had such distinctive land marks that I can still remember the different places after so many years from it release. Extra note: this is not an MMO, it is just a regular coop game where some times you get to see no more than 4 players in your missions instances, clearly not massive at all. Strikes are 3 players, so no MMO. Expand

Unless you're willing to make this game your life just to grind gear capable of raiding and unless you're really jonesing for an archaic MMO style raid like BWL or AQ from vanilla WoW, take a flyer on Destiny and move on. For someone unwilling or unable to make those commitments, all they have to look forward to is a short, pedantic storyline, exceedingly repetitive strikes, and imbalanced, terrible, PVP matches.

It's quite a shame because the shooting elements are so very strong, yet the game is shallow for anyone not willing or able to partake in the grind fest. 6 out of 10 for being graphically stunning and with solid shooting mechanics, but it loses a lot for its terrible story and sheer repetitiveness

I've been a huge fan of Bungie ever since playing the original Halo. Their worlds have always been packed with a very focused and unique style. I remember just staring at little corners of levels in Halo CE, and really feeling the care and passion that the developers must have had for their game. The story and environments felt like more than just typical FPS narrative for the time; forI've been a huge fan of Bungie ever since playing the original Halo. Their worlds have always been packed with a very focused and unique style. I remember just staring at little corners of levels in Halo CE, and really feeling the care and passion that the developers must have had for their game. The story and environments felt like more than just typical FPS narrative for the time; for some reason, I actually cared about what was happening in this universe (so much so, that I ended up reading a good portion of the Halo novels).

We all knew that Destiny would not be Halo. What I didn't know however, was that Destiny wouldn't even have Halo's level of soul and identity. I feel nothing for the world of Destiny. On the surface, its ideas are intriguing. The Traveler's interactions with humanity and the events that come after all seem to set the stage for what should be an engaging story. The art style, while not exceptionally unique, does manage to add a certain personality and look to the game. Destiny however ends up doing almost nothing with its own setting and visuals.

My character is a faceless nobody with almost no presence in the world. Every time he spoke a line of dialogue aloud, I was almost surprised. Why even bother giving a voice actor to such an uninspired and weak character? He seems to have no real motivation, no personality. Only useless comments and the occasional snarky one-liner to his Ghost. Dinklage himself gives an incredibly boring performance, but it's one that I don't think I can entirely blame him for. It's clear that bad (or maybe even absent?) directing must have had some role to play here, and the writing itself doesn't do him any favors.

The story feels dead. It's lonely. Each story mission felt more and more like some banal task for an astronaut janitor to take care of. You go to a location (that you've probably seen multiple times before), and you press square. Dinklage mumbles something about how he's using space magic to learn something about some other thing. Then you fight off waves of enemies until he's done. At the the end of the mission, Dinklage reveals that he has indeed, figured out where you need to go for your next mission. Rinse and repeat. Why is my character doing all this? To fight the Darkness. What's the darkness, and why are they bad? Well, because they are attacking the Light. Destiny's story is trying hard to combine futuristic sci-fi with mysticism, but it ends up coming off as incredibly simplistic and shallow. What lore there actually is in the universe is hidden away on Bungie.net in the form of Grimoire cards. Perhaps Destiny could have benefited from including this fiction in the actual game.

The combat is fun enough. It feels like a further evolution of Halo, with armor abilities replaced by space magic. The customization systems within the game give you some amount of control over your character, but nowhere near the levels seen in a Diablo or even a Borderlands. Gear comes with a defense stat, and sometimes cooldown reduction for your abilities. There are some additional gear effects, but they're often not truly interesting enough to really change how you play the game.

In conclusion, my biggest emotion in reaction to Destiny is pure surprise. I was expecting a Bungie game. What I got was something that feels hollow. It's as if something tore the heart and soul out of Bungie, and the withered husk was forced to produce a triple-A game. If that sounds harsh or dramatic, it's probably because my second biggest emotion right now is disappointment. Ever since the Halo franchise was handed off to 343, I've been incredibly curious and optimistic about Bungie's future. Destiny held the promise of even more greatness for the company, and the gamers who loved their work. Destiny does not hold up to that expectation. Being led through the various environments of Destiny, I did not feel the same wonder and curiosity I felt while walking around even just the bridge of the Pillar of Autumn in Halo.

The core game itself is where it comes to a screeching halt as you drudge through extremely repetitive "quests" and "scenarios" which take their toll fairly quickly. The landscape itself is fairly barren and desolate with not much at all to give any feeling of it being "alive". Bungie professes that the game doesn't truly "start" until level 20. However, at level 20 it's just more of the same repetitive gameplay and recycled locations with a mere "illusion" of variety.

It's a shame really as this game had potential to be something really special and give undeniable proof of Bungie's genius as a developer. Seeing Destiny's final delivery and presentation makes me wonder just how "lucky" Bungie had been with their Halo franchise. Maybe, MS had more to do with it's success than we may think.

To summarize, I wouldn't really recommend Destiny to friends or anything, but, I wouldn't shout out any warnings to avoid either. It's just an average shooter with a pseudo large scale scope to give the illusion of depth and involvement.

There is nothing innovative about the game, its a very standard shooter with bosses that you have to painstakingly wear down for 15-20mins. The multiplayer aspect of the game is very unbalanced, there doesn't seem to be any kind of skill/level based matchmaking at all. A level 12 character will face level 30+ characters with end game gear ! Don't even bother trying the multiplayer until you have reached the level cap.

The areas and zones are boring as hell, nothing interesting about them whatsoever. It has loads of reputation grinding missions where you literally repeat the same mission over and over...

The Dark Below expansion (only one out at time of writing) is probably the least value for money I have seen in DLC, £20 for almost nothing, it should be £5.

And now onto probably my biggest issue with the game, no matchmaking for raids or weekly strikes. This means if you're like me and don't know anyone else who owns the game you're just out of luck I'm afraid, forget about endgame content. Do not buy this game unless your friends have it too.

Single player? Well firstly, it's clear that this game was not designed really to be played by yourself. If you do then the repetition of the games gameplay becomes far more obvious than it would if played with your buddy(s). That becomes evident quite early on.

What this game does well is it's basic core gunplay, which is lifted wholesale from the Halo series, if it ain't broke why fix it? It certainly reminds you why Halo's gunplay was and is head and shoulders above the competition. The weaving and dodging, the fluidity and weighty feel it has translates into harmonious dance around the battle field that has simply not been bettered. To put it another way, if shigeru miyamoto made shooters, this is what it would feel like. It just feels right.

But then Halo: Combat Evolved got it right, way back in 2001. That was 13 years ago.

So what does Destiny add to the mix? Well early on Destiny feels like a stripped down Halo.
Grenades are no longer picked up on the battlefield, they are an ability that is unlocked and when used has a cool down time. Exactly what this new limitation on grenades adds to the overall combat experience I'm not sure, apart from forcing periods huddled behind a crate wishing you had a grenade to hurl at a group of enemies pinning you down (who also happen to be revelling in the fact that your grenade now has a cool down time!).
Where the Halo franchise and games like borderlands have added interesting abilities and items like hologram decoys, sentry guns even stealth kills, Destiny's tool box seems strangely far less interesting in comparison. There are no stealth kill animations (which I personally was sorry to see absent). There are power buffs, but no hologram decoys, theres a flaming golden gun... But nothing as tactically interesting as placing a sentry gun allowing you to then flank a pinned down enemy.

Then we have the Ai. Which is ok (not great) but does the job, when allowed to do it. Unfortunately Bungie has seen fit to tether enemy groups to an exact location and will not venture further than a few metres away from said location. This means enemies shooting at you from 100m across the battlefield will never move from that spot or attempt to move in on your location and flush you out. So combat only seems work as it should when in close proximity (a few metres, or same room) with an enemy group. When you are, enemies are able to behave far more intelligently, and move around, take cover and sometimes flank you. Mid to long range battles are more a case of the enemy taking cover or moving position within the boundaries of their assigned position on the map. There are no patrolling enemies in this game unfortunately. One example that stuck out for me was in Old Russia, I came across a Hive 'Knight' who was standing under a bridge in a small pond. No matter how threatened or what was throne at him, he barely moved a metre from that location. The most apt analogy I can think of is a Rottweiler chained to a post in a field whilst you stand at a distance taking pot shots at with your gun! Thankfully not all boss, or mini boss encounters are as painfully dumb as that experience. Wizards move around (at least a little!)!
Another BIG problem comes from a lack of randomisation. Enemies no matter what mission you are doing spawn in the exact same locations on the planet map you are playing.... Every single time you play! This inevitably leads to a feeling of repetition. So far I would have to say that this is one of the key problems Destiny has.
Random placing of enemy groups could have made the world of difference in keeping things fresh and less predictable and less repetitive. Let's hope Bungie will perhaps fix this in an update?

I haven't been able to fully explore the customisation of my character yet, but seeing other players around the Hub world leads me to believe that there's is an adequate range of options available.
The beautifully realised sandbox environments are excellent, and genuinely atmospheric. Although they sometimes do feel rather empty. Exploration seems unnecessary when theres so little loot to find out in the open!

So far Destiny's core gameplay even with the problems I've mentioned are what see's you through and compels you to play on. When combat works as it should, there's few shooters out there's that can really hold a candle to Halo's and indeed Destiny's gunplay mechanics.

But Destiny's experience remains a continuing juxtaposition. It can sometimes come off feeling a little too thin, various components that make a convincing whole are lacking, but then the game kicks again and you are pulled back in, forgetting why only moments ago you were feeling like the whole thing was a becoming a grind.

Why? Why in an "MMO" do I not have the option to matchmake for EVERYTHING?! If I want to do ANYTHING beyond Level 24, I have to go onto Forums asking for people to add me so I can add them to a Fireteam so that we can do anything beyond this point.
This game is so unfinished I have an armor shader called "18327496-64703388" instead of having a name! I do not expect to be playing a game and come across such glaring faults, that are so easy to fix that it's already in other parts of the game (you can matchmake for PVP and lower level strikes but for some reason they've taken it away here!!!).
Now, for the good stuff. The music is incredible! I want the soundtrack to this entire game now. It is gripping and adds such ambiance to the entire game that it might actually overshadow the game-play at times when you think "That's it?!" after beating a boss.
The art, oh my sweet lord, the art is amazing. I was with my friends in a Skype Call the first time I was on the Moon and as the level loaded we all fell silent in stunned admiration as we looked around.
This is about all that is good. As I said, with friends this game is quite enjoyable.
Alone however, you will find yourself raging and pushing yourself through the endless grind.
End game content is the EXACT SAME GRIND that you did to get to Level 20, just at a harder difficulty.
The true end game content at Level 26 when you get the raid, can't be accessed and is nigh on impossible unless you have 5 other friends with you who have also managed to reach this point in the fog that is the endless grind where I still don't see an end with a level 25 Titan and my Warlock and Hunter which I only play when my friends are on.
I'm sorry. I truly am to people who like me were expecting more. But if you don't have a group of friends who are willing to play this game with you, or you don't want to play with people you just met on a forum with teamspeak, I implore you, do NOT buy this game.
You will waste your money, you will waste your time and you will just lose more and more faith in game developers as you see more games release a game, but scrap half it's content so you can pay for it as DLC later.

Lets get one thing out of the way - the voice acting of the ghost is bad... very very bad... its a chore to listen to him and I hate that voice with a passion. Bungie... how could you waste so much money on that voice is beyond me...... sigh.. Honestly we dont care who you hire to do a voice for a silly A.I. character, whether its someone famous from a tv show or an unknown actor. We just want good gameplay and storyline!!!

The gameplay, as others have said, is repetitive. You find a spot, deploy your ghost, then wait, then shoot waves of enemies until its over.
The graphics are good but whats the point of having good graphics if the gameplay is dull.
    Music is non existent.
Storyline is completely non existent. Then again they were aiming this at online players who enjoy multiplayer.
But lets talk about the multiplayer. Its so dumb. You cant join others or have matchmaking facilities (they are currently discussing adding this in, but its too late bungie!). Leveling up seems boring and annoying and the fact that everyone is running around with the same armor is also a joke.
This game reminds me of Microsoft, and how they were so arrogant with their DRM and that the Xbox One would sell well, but in the end they learned an important lesson that the customer is always king.
Same thing happened here. Bungie thought, that just because it has their name from the Halo series on this game, people would talk good things about it, but that is not what happened.
Overall was thoroughly disappointed with this game, as like others, I was expected something amazing but in the end all I got was a slap in the face by a wet fish.
Thanks but no thanks bungie! The negative scores do not lie!

It was intentionally shipped incomplete, because they want to sell you DLC. LOTS of DLC. That's the entire purpose of this game, to sell you more and more DLC. Pass this up, don't waste the money. Where is all the content and vast exicting world i was promised? the landscapes are the same in every mission, every corridor is the same, on every map there are the same planes laying around, the same boring AI - who are dumb as well by the way. and the missions are all the same. very disapointed with this.

Does not feel like an open world game AT ALL. All you are doing is initiating missions from the so called "Orbit" (which is just a more fancy word for main menu). There are like 5 story missions and 3 strike missions on each of the 4 planets + a free roaming mode where you can grind extremely boring and repetitive quests like "kill 20 enemies" or "go to location XY".

The story feels repetitive, fragmented, emotionless and has nothing special to offer. I just played through the story yesterday and cant remember a single mission because the storytelling is lame and full of cliches. The different kinds of enemies are generic and have almost no storyline behind them. Not to mention the bossfights, which are just a complete failure. Basically spraying your gun into some big fat AI for 30min.
For and open world/ RPG/ MMO game, the environment is extremely small and repetitive, nothing like borderlands AT ALL. Not even close.
The multiplayer is just casual, random, generic and boring. Just some halo-cod hybrid that plays like some random f2p game on steam.
I really dont get how ppl can give this game a 8/10 or something like that. I'm really dissapointed in Bungie and I dont think this game will go anywhere.

I've invited everyone I've ever seen to a fire team (usually one or two people max who are at my level) and I've only ever gotten a fire team of 3.

Stupid ammo drops in huge boss fights make it so you not only can't use your favorite weapon, since it only has 3 bullets and holds a max of 15, but then you run out of ammo for your second favorite and theres not a single ammo drop in the whole damn boss fight. Not to mention I'm playing by myself because I can't find enough players to join me!!!

I may not have sunk the 15+ hours into this game that some people claim you need 'before it gets good' because I'm not spending full price for a 15 hour grind before I actually enjoy myself.

I must state that I am also not a troll, the game legitimately is not very good. Probably the most overhyped and dissapointing game of the year.

We complained about the beta, they told us to wait for the release. We're now complaining about the release and they're telling us to wait for the expansions -- after all, it's a ten year game! As long as you fork out the cash for each expansion. This is a very common mentality among those who think it's a good game.

The bottom line is that while it's yet another generic FPS, it doesn't even live up to that poor standard. It has absolutely fantastic art direction and vision, but it feels like they finished the game and then went back to tear out all the content so they could sell it to us as expansions. There is no story; the game only alludes to one but even then it's right out of a high school creative writing class.

I could almost agree that the core mechanics are solid, except they're not at all -- and deceptively so. The critical hit box for PvE enemies is big enough that you can shoot over their shoulder, in their stomach, or sometimes even on their rear and still watch the head pop. Not to mention the extremely strong aim assist. It's designed to make people feel like they're good at it regardless of their actual skill level. If you're a player who typically prides yourself on getting head shots, you'll feel robbed once you realize it's lying to you with a smile.

The PvP has much better hit boxes, but it has a whole slew of other problems. It's completely unbalanced -- Bungie themselves admitted as much in their public statement made after closing the loot cave. Need I even mention how broken the supers are? There's not enough class distinction, but the class distinction that exists makes this a laugh of a competitive game. Then of course, you have the persistent lag (count on killing someone, then having their corpse kill you 2-3 seconds later) and the frequent disconnections (it even fails to tell users what happened, so everybody thinks everybody else chose to leave the game).

Continuing my critique of the PvP, they have a few different match types but for absolutely no reason. Kills are the most important factor in every match type. In control, you're far better off capturing a point and sitting in a corner for the rest of the match to slaughter every incoming enemy than you are actually trying to go capture other control points. I can't recall how many matches I've played where the person who captured the most points was last on the leaderboard simply because the only thing that really matters is kills. Furthermore, the game gives you zero ability to customize a PvP match -- this is 13 years after the very first Halo game, which gave us myriad different PvP match types and options to fiddle with.

The last point I want to make is about the general amount of content in the game, the loot system and Bungie's "updates". Bungie's number one priority is to slow players down as much as possible, which is why they "fixed" the loot cave and basically nothing else. I don't think the loot cave should stay in the game, but they completely avoided fixing the real problem: the game's utter lack of content. The reason the loot generation is terrible is that they have to continue to give you the same atrocious gear over and over. The alternative is people progressing at a reasonable pace and then quickly realizing there is no endgame here.

For any of you wondering (because some have assumed little playtime in order to discredit harsh but accurate reviewers), I've put north of 70 hours into this game — I have a level 27 Warlock. I've been very determined to get my money's worth in spite of the fury I feel every single time I play.

To each their own, I don't begrudge anybody their enjoyment of this game or any other game which I consider to be terrible. But this is yet another example of publishers and developers treating their core demographic like mouth-breathing cash cows and yet they keep raking in the millions. It does say something about that core demographic.

Destiny is a first for me on two counts. It is the first game in which I managed to reach max level within two days (which did take me a while to do, I will admit) and it also marks the first pseudo MMORPG I have ever played that has truly bored me both during the climb to the end game and then after it.

As many others have noted, the fighting is largely repeated from mission to mission. There is little variation and little excitement in the plot. The gear also fails to provide that sense of achievement and awesomeness that you'd find in Borderlands (largely because there is no sense of variety in what you find and equip).

The end game raids, PVP, events, etc do mix things up a bit, but after a couple hours of any of the above, you will again be overwhelmed by a feeling of staleness and repetition.

Overall, I'd have to say the game is...pretty disappointing.

I'm reviewing purely from what I expected which was a balanced competitive multiplayer, a singleplayer with fun and innovative gameplay, and a good story. Unfortunately destiny was very lackluster when it came to these things. First the multiplayer is too casual for any kind of competitive person. It doesn't take too much skill and it was clearly designed for the casual gamer. Next the gameplay to me felt stale. It was like call of duty at 30 FPS with space gun sound effects. Next the story is gripping at all. During the cutscenes nothing was really gripping and for even some of them I'd get up and eat a snack while the characters who I don't even know or care about are talking about something else I don't care about .The worst part was the repetitiveness of the missions. About every mission is go press X and let your ghost scan something while you shoot about 3 waves of enemies. It does that about 15 times in the campaign.

The game tries to be a little bit of everything. It has FPS elements, MMO elements, and other things but in the end it isn't enough to satisfy.

The Golden Age would last for centuries, but human civilization fell victim to a cataclysm of extraordinary magnitude, known as the Collapse. A malicious entity known as The Darkness, an ancient enemy of the Traveler, waged a campaign of destruction against civilization. Few managed to survive the devastation. The Traveler is now silent and dormant, while those who survived united to build The City beneath it, establishing the last bastion of civilization in the solar system."

500 million dollars and this is the best they could do. Notice I didn't capitalize those nouns; those are the names they gave their characters, their locations, their foes. If that doesn't tell you that this game lacks any sort of creativity I don't know what would.

The gunplay is slick, the worlds look great, it can be challenging. Where's the soul of the game though? If this is supposed to sit on my shelf next to LotR and Star Wars, where's the imagination? It reminds of when Ubisoft said they had Assassin's Creed "down to a science". Sure it may play well and be incredibly stable and graphically rich, but it has no longevity or emotional conviction. It's soul less corporate trash, and that's what's wrong with this game.

If you enjoy a competent shooter and do not need a deep plot or characters that matter, then you can enjoy Destiny for what it is. The rest of us were promised something more, much more. They failed to deliver anywhere near what they had said they would, and so their ratings shall fail so they will know we hold them to their promises.

The bounty system is bugged as well, giving bounties for playlists that are only available on weekends during weekdays. Add on numerous cutscenes that you can't skip, an absolutely atrocious story, fairly bad voice acting, boring choices of weapons, a lack of a community, and making it a real pain in the ass to get a group for weekly strikes, and you have a pretty awful game. The world is BEAUTIFUL. You are on the Earth which is desolate and destroyed, on the moon which has a fantastic view of the Earth with visible ion storms, a broken up space station in the sky and a fantastic view of the Milky Way whenever you look above your head. Venus and Mars are equally fantastic.

The combat in this game is the best part, enhanced by in depth RPG elements. You traverse these planets killing enemies with powerful weapons that feel good to wield. The game feels heavy, you can feel your legs bending as you fall from great heights. Each weapon and piece of armour has levels associated to it which can be specifically chosen to enhance your particular characters features as you see fit.

But that is about all the positives I can say. The game is too short. I finished it in about two days of solid playing. Which is pathetic for a full priced game and one which is supposed to be lasting us the next ten years. Where the next expansion to this game isn't supposed to be hitting us until around the end of this year and it won't be free!

The level cap is 20. But you can continue to level based on something called "Light" which is a feature of high level armour that adds levels to your level 20 maximum. Most people have started to level off at about level 27/28. I have been playing just under two weeks and I am already at level 27.

This game is always online, so you need an internet connection. Despite this being online only, there is no in game voice chat. So there is almost no way you can find people in the game you don't know. If you play solo like me there is no way of making friends and playing in a group with people. Instead you have to go on the internet and sign up to a group manually and add the people on there to your friends list. Tedious and unnecessary in 2014.

The story of this game is the worst part about it. It is slow, hard to understand and lacking any sort of interesting features. Not even Peter Dinklage who plays Tyrion Lannister in the Game of Thrones TV adaptation could make this story any less dull. The missions all play out in the exact same fashion except the odd one. Your Ghost companion tries to scan something or open a door and enemies come at you. You defend against waves of enemies and once the last one is dead, your companion conveniently finishes whatever it was he was doing.

Once the story is over you have one task left. You have to scour the world for increasingly better armour to increase your light level and ultimately your characters level. The problem is once you have finished the main story line there is NOTHING new to experience in this game. PvP and Raids being the exception.

To find armour and weapons you have to kill enemies. The only enemies you can kill are in the same maps that the main story was held in which means you are running through the same environments over and over and over. Plus the enemies do not scale with your level which means not only are you going through the same environments, with the same enemies, they are also still low level meaning they offer no increased threat.

The process of finding armour is helped using Bounties and daily missions. They are easy and they have you doing the exact same missions I've just been talking about again and again and again.

For doing certain missions you get reputation and a currency called marks. Once you hit a certain rank in a certain faction you can buy their armour using the marks you just painstakingly collected from doing the same missions over and over. This game is a quick ending grind fest. All you will do in this game is grind, grind, grind.

The more astute amongst you will probably say "Well yes but MMO's are supposed to be like that. This isn't anything new.". Yes except that WoW didn't have ten years ago when it started ONLY TWO DAYS WORTH OF CONTENT! In WoW it takes many months building up a character before you get to the loot grinding. It appears Bungie didn't get that memo.

PvP. Anyone thinking this will be like Halo you are wrong. By which I mean one of the best multiplayer games available. PvP is barebones, tedious and really rather boring. There is nothing to keep you engaged in this mode, not even a leaderboard. Not to mention so far I have also encountered a considerable amount of lag while playing. Crucible has its own reputation rank and marks currency and its own set of armour you can buy.

Raids. Raids are a high end mission. Basically you need to be with a group of friends. Bungie refused to put matchmaking in for Raids so it is friends on your list or nothing. Needless to say the difficulty hump for this mode is considerable. The average gamer won't stand a chance.

This game has TONNES of potential but it isn't finished yet.

    - Teams consist of 3 (WAIT WHAT!?)
    - Earth/Moon/Venus/Mars, thats it, hope you dont beat the game too quickly, because you've just seen every area
    - No end game, no new stories, no new places to visit, just revisit all the old things..over..and over..and over
    - Drops are random, even in pvp, no skill, no end goal, just random (example i can go 56-0 and get nothing, but the 20 who just went 0-50 got a legendary drop)
    - In addition to drops are random, there is no true "worth" of any item, with the lack of at least a good trade system, or buy and sell system, its pointless.
    - Drops are happening WAY to often, the fact that its been out for less than a week, and i'm already fully decked out in rares/legendaries, its insane
    - Zero reason to really replay the game more than once unless you want a hunter for pvp
    - PvP is broken right now, if you want to truly rule, luck out with a great auto rife and a hunter class
    - No real cities where all the players can relax, a small hub that offers nothing but shops to buy things
    - One city...just once city
    - the inability to chat in the city to get a group of players going...even though you can only really run a mission with three
    - There is no point in just "roaming" a planet, no benefit, no secret crazy treasure, just a random zone event which means your either fending off waves of npcs or chasing an npc down to kill it
    - Virtually impossible to communicate to another player without inviting him/her to a party (imagine trying to find a party to play with none of your friends on..god luck
    - Why would anyone want to legit level a warlock when you legit found out the benefits of a titan or a hunter passed level 20. Titans get amazing armor, Hunters get great speed, warlocks get...recovery?
    - When you hit level 20, you gain more levels by light, to get this light you need to find armor that has additional light, to find this armor you have to either play PVP or redo the same missions over and over again. Basically replay the same strike missions until you realize your over it
    - It sad but i can keep going for at least another 15 lines, but i'm over it. HUGE disappointment and you can already see the people leaving the game

All in all people expected a clash of Mass effect 3, Halo, and borderlands. What they got was an over hyped game thats aims at the only way to level is playing long hours to hopefully get a random drop that you essentially didn't deserve...

And that pretty much summarizes my experience with Destiny. If you want to play any of the genres this game "touches" you do have cheaper and much better alternatives:
Wanna FPS looting madness? Borderlands is better.
Want an "old school" FPS? Battlefield 4 is better.
Want a Sci-Fi RPG? Mass Effect is MUCH better.
Trust me, if you have a single doubt do not buy this game, as in the end is a standard shooter with bland mechanics borrowed from other genres without contributing in any meaningful way to game development in the most wider sense of the term.
An utterly forgettable experience. I am scoring it as a 4 due to the art and graphics (if this actually counts something towards reviewing a game nowadays) and out of pure nostalgia of the Halo series, as I cannot believe this game was developed by Bungie for over 5 years.

I'm amazed at how safe and basic launch content is. Couple this with zero basic grouping features and the tower becomes ironically the loneliest place on earth.

Perhaps in 2 years we will see this game in a more content rich vein but the lowest common denominator gameplay needs desperate attention. Every encounter is dead in the water due basic mob behaviour.

Probably has the thinnest story in video games. Incoherent afterthought sums it up.

It's technically brilliant, but it has the bland story and mechanics you would expect to find in a generic free-to-play shooter.

It's more fun when played with friends, but the 3-player coop limit is too restrictive.

The menus are easy to navigate and laid out well. The outstanding stops there. The gameplay is functional, albeit monotonous and not very original. The movement feels a lot like Halo 3, which would be a compliment 7 years ago when that game came out, but now it feels a little clunky and slow. Today, we should expect FPS games to have flawless, silky-smooth movement like Black Ops 2 or Titanfall (easily the most fluid FPS in existence). Still, it's not terrible. It's completely functional. The crucible (competitive multiplayer) can be fun, but frustrating. It is suffering from some serious balancing issues, but, overall, it plays well enough. It's enjoyable (it's likely a lot less enjoyable when playing by yourself, but I try to not play online games without friends anymore). The good/mediocre end there. Here's the bad. Weapons variation is almost non-existent. There are pretty much 2 different weapons for each weapon-class (auto-rifle, scout rifle, sniper, shotgun, etc). The "different" ones have the Borderlands effect, where they all are the same thing but with a different color scheme or slightly different weapon effect. However, I do like the weapon upgrade system, even if the game never explains how you upgrade them (you just kind of happen upon upgrades as you use the gun). The classes are pretty much different flavors of the same thing. They'll try and tell you that each class has a wide variety of different abilities, but they lie. Each class has a grenade, a special melee, and a super ability. All grenades are pretty much the same (they blow stuff up), and upgraded melees are kinda the same (you get knocked out from slightly further away), and all supers have the same endgame (all the dudes in a small area suddenly die). The Hunter's gunslinger and Warlock's sunsinger supers are really the only different ones, so I'll give them credit on that.
Let's get to the horrific, the down-right insulting: the story. The "story" (I use quotes because what they call a story wouldn't pass for a story in the terrible, cheesy books featuring Fabio on the cover lining the wall next to the register at Walgreen's). There's no story at all. You're a dude (or a dudet) who has a Robo-Dinklage sidekick, you travel around from skybox to skybox (fantastic skyboxes, however) doing boring, monotonous missions in the same area (at least 4 to 5 times per area; it gets old really fast) fighting the same enemies, and you're objective 100% of the time is to get to an area, plug your robot thing into a console, and defend the area. It's like they didn't try. The "strike" missions can be fun (extra missions at the end of an area in which you fight several bosses), but it makes me angry that the rest of the game's story isn't like them. It's like they were designing a Multiplayer-only game like Titanfall, but then realized that they should probably have some "story" to market the game's expansion packs on, so people think they're getting more than just multiplayer map packs.
Overall, the game isn't horrendous, but it doesn't live up to the hype. It's not a 2, it's not a 1, it's certainly not a 0, but anyone giving the game a 9 or a 10 is unable to get out of the trailers and the teasers. You're kidding yourselves. 6/10 is a very fair score for a game that I'm playing so I can give an honest review, and because several of my friends are still living in the world of the trailers and teasers.

Just there. It's not a bad game and for some reason I keep going back to it just pushing a bit further, but none of the expectations I had for this game were met. Single player missions felt repetitive and the story still does not make any sense.

On the other hand, strikes are enjoyable and raids are challenging. And while we wait for the big November releases, this is an ok option.

Destiny is a competent game. It is not any shade of spectacular. Playing through it evoked games past, a mixture of Borderlands and Diablo. Examining the content, I didn't see anything new mechanically.

    Mechanics:
Cooldown based abilities that are unlocked as you level, three standard fantasy classes (rogue, warrior, wizard), a limit of active abilities available at one time (similar to Diablo 3's system), certain weapons that level up as they are used (similar to the special weapons in Darksiders 2 and Torchlight 2), weapons and armor of various calibers as loot. A 'super' power for each class.

So far, solid treaded ground. This has been done before, and it has worked. It works again here, but without much 'new' added to the mix it's a retread rather than trailblazing.

    Gameplay:
The gunplay wasn't stellar. It was less responsive than either Halo or Call of Duty in terms of weapon switching, reloading, animation smoothness and weight, and trigger responsiveness. The ammunition system is fine, with standard ammo, special ammo, and heavy ammo matching a weapon type (a feature I enjoyed in Red Faction 2), but again doesn't go beyond anything we've seen before.

    Levels:
They are spotted with enemy spawns. Enemies will simply pop into existence at their spawn location about a minute after they were killed, in full view. This can lead to rather uncomfortable circumstances if someone cleared the area before you, and the respawn happens while you are standing in the middle of the spawn location. There are also repeated caverns that serve no purpose other than to house lone bosses that can be high enough level that you cannot damage them or the occasional chest.

There is lots of retreading the same areas for multiple quests, and the order of quests makes it so you need to back track instead of clearing an area all at once.

Loading times are common and long. Each transition can take up to a minute, and transitioning from a planet to the base or after a disconnect quickly becomes tiresome.

    Encounters:
Enemies are simple. Each name has a set of associated properties, such as melee attacks, a shield, a sniper rifle, and so forth. They attack directly, sometimes flee into the open, and otherwise don't indicate much AI cleverness. The Elites from Halo 1 and 2 felt much more responsive - in tactics and self preservation.

The way they are used is also repetitive. Overland enemies are there as mobs to soak up time and provide experience grind. Quality items rarely drop for these encounters.
During missions they are roadblocks that add clock to reaching the boss near the end, usually by actually being the element preventing the player from proceeding: the way forward is blocked by some obstacle / computer / device, and the player's Ghost needs time to hack / modify / detonate the obstruction. That 'time' is actually 'kill X waves of these enemies that are higher level than in the overworld'.
In event missions found on the overworld, it's another version of 'hold this point for X time' or 'defend the generator for X waves' of increasingly levelled enemies.

A large issue with the opponents is that difficulty is merely presented by their numbers going up. More damage, more shields, more damage resistance. I saw no indication of different weapons, equipment or behaviors, and that's boring. Using the same tactics will win you the day, as long as your numbers are within reasonable distance of their numbers.

The multiplayer is, again, competent but nothing special. It's team based and with a chance for loot at the end of each match. Vehicles are absurd within the mode, and the level design isn't polished nor inclusive of verticality.

    MMO:
Maybe. It's an instanced game world where there might be some number of players in your zone, usually less than 4. Seeing them there helps break the immersion of the game, since the story revolves around the guardians being rare and set upon all sides by enemies, but jumping out into a mission that only 'you, the player' can take care of and seeing another couple players with the same instruction shatters the narrative reason for being there.

    Narrative:
It's loose. The main character is mostly silent, despite the potentially interesting lore bleeding into every matte painting around each level. Combined with the lack of personality of the main, supporting, and background characters, there is very little engagement to be had in what could be a rich fictional world. As mentioned above, seeing other players on the same mission as yourself when the previous cutscene explicitly told you that no other guardians were able to respond breaks the immersion even further.

    2. Graphics - good graphics, could use some variance however. Bosses and terrain starts to look identical after a while, but what they did choose to focus on was well done
    3. Gear - I like the variety of weaponry and the way gear in general looks, character aesthetics in general deserves some praise.

On to what I DON'T like:
    1. This was way over hyped as an mmo, of course they couldn't just come out and tell you that you would hardly ever interact with other players. Only if you're in a fireteam, which means you basically have to be friends BEFOREHAND wtf. Anyone who has played a true MMO like RIFT or WoW will be severely disappointed. I have a huge problem with the whole basis of P2P interaction in this game. I feel lied to.
    2. repetitiveness. I literally said multiple times throughout the game "oh I must just have to grind through this to get to the real "meat" of the gameplay. Wrong. You shoot aliens for 20 hours then guess what. you shoot some more aliens. Nothing about that is fun, we've all done it a thousand times.
    3. Did I mention that calling this an MMO is a travesty?
    4. "worlds" should be renamed to "maps" an entire planet...say...the moon, is just a bunch of missions on a closed map with identical spawns. Thats right folks, this is not open world, you don't "travel" you're loading a map.
    5. Someone else put it best when they said the main city hub is worse than starting locations for most MMOs.
    6. This is not an MMO.

Conclusion: I like the game, its fun to play, but honestly we were straight up lied to about the scope, depth, and type of game this is. Its a good first try. They can build on it. But I learned my lesson. No more day 1 purchases from me bungie.

With nice visuals, sounds and extremely solid gameplay mechanics but that's pretty much all that can be positively said about this game. The story is very repetitive, with the same missions carried out in different settings over and over. The length of the story is very short and there's really no incentive whatsoever to veer off the main story path and explore. There will be hidden caves with higher end enemies inside them. An obvious place to have some decent loot right? Nope. Nothing.

The Strike missions are in all fairness an enjoyable experience when played with friends, but the distinct lack of chat support makes it pointless trying to team up with other individuals. Not that you'll actually need to as on normal difficulty the game can be played with eyes closed. And on Hard difficulty only certain enemies are moderately tricky, sure the bosses will take a lot longer to down but there's little danger of dying.

The PVP aspect of the game has some potential with the very solid shooting mechanics. The map designs are by no means great and could do with some good verticality put into them but in the main they are decent layouts. However, any fun that may be had in the crucible is quickly sucked away by the inclusion of the super moves. I understand they are trying to add something different to the game but 1 hit kill moves that are practically impossible to fight against and obliterate everything on screen instantly are not the way to go about it. The 1 hit kill shotgun is vastly overpowered and is unanswerable in close quarters. Overall it's just an extremely unbalanced pvp multiplayer with limited maps and limited game modes. At the very least i'd expect a "hardcore" vanilla mode, with the option to play without the ridiculous super powers and perhaps the mini-map which negates any potential stealth approach to gameplay.

Overall, A well built game that seriously lacks any ideas other than go to point A defend against a horde then kill a boss and with terrible unbalanced pvp.

A 0 out of 10 game means it's unplayable you **** morons. Angry halo fan boys getting themselves too hyped for this game then when it doesn't deliver they get butt-hurt and give it a 0 out of 10 while not explaining why. That being said yes, Destiny is a disappointment to the hype that was built around it, Obviously. But the thing is it's not THAT bad. Destiny offers a good amount of hours of entertainment. At least until level 20. The story is bland and uninteresting at best. Nothing is explained and you will often find yourself going "what the hell is happening?" throughout the story missions. Your character is given no motive to do anything he does and doesn't even really comment on anything going on around him despite being dead for who knows how long. The game-play is solid. Nothing special but done right. There are 3 classes to choose from. All three are very very similar with only slight differences in them. They all play the same except for the 3 main different ability's. Besides that it's all really based on what you want your character to look like. Do you want a robe for a warlock or a cape for a hunter. Maybe even some cool space armor for the titan. The games missions are really lazy. Almost every single mission you will play will require you to defend your ghost against a certain amount of waves of enemies. Usually 3. This does get tired some late game and you would just wish for a mission where you do stuff instead of standing there defending for the entire game. Strikes are fun even though there the same as normal missions but offer more of a challenge. But late game they will get repetitive as you must do the same strikes over and over to progress after 20. A lot of the game feels like content was taken out just to add it in for expansions later. I don't know if that is true but if it is i would not be surprised if it was activation that did that. Replay value dies when you hit level 20 because that point you have to just replay missions and strikes which all play the same. Just defend your ghost. I was very surprised when i found out that i just beat the game at the end. I was expecting more than 3 enemy factions and more planets to explore. The final boss and level is completely disappointing that you might not even know that it was the final level in the story. That sucks. During my play-through of the game i did find myself having fun while playing with my friends. I love the seamless co-op and random interactions with other players in the game. The graphics look good but i would have loved to see them if they were not held back by the PS3 and Xbox 360. The PVP is really fun and is the only thing that will really keep you playing the game after 20. I went into this game with low expectations. I refused to give into the crazy hype of this game and didn't really follow it at all. I bought it with a friend to try it out thinking it was just another Halo. To my surprise i had more fun than i thought i would have and got some good hours of game-play out of it. Yes its disappointing in a lot of areas and gets super repetitive real fast. I've been playing Destiny since release. I hadn't heard anything about this game before I got it, and I've never played Halo before. I had no expectations before I started, and I saw right away that this game has potential for unlimited expansions.

The game looks pretty, and you get a feeling you're in the world of which Destiny takes place. A world based on the solar system. For such a small game, it seems very big, and it can expand as Bungie wants. The first and foremost feature of Destiny is the co-operation. You can play story, strike, raid and crucible with your friends. This feature is intertwined very well and is the strongest feature of Destiny alongside the visual graphics.

The crucible is the player vs. player part of the game, and most of it is entertaining. There are several modes to play, like Control, which is not so good, mostly because of imbalance in some of the maps, which makes it much more challenging just because you were assigned to the wrong side. The maps with the worst balance from my experience is Firebase Delphi, Mars and Blind Watch, Mars, in if you start at the wrong team, you get a much harder challenge to win. The Clash which is 6 vs. 6 is enteraining all the way, and usually never boring. The salvage I tried but the teams I've met have been so much more superior that I haven't really got into it enough to say how entertaining it is. Skirmish I have not tried yet, but it is 6 players everyone vs. everyone.

Controls in Destiny is not the best. Your run is on your control button, L3 by default and it seems a very weird choice after playing it for weeks. The rest of the controls seems fine.

The content of Destiny story-wise is crippled into the story already starting off the wrong way compared to what was planned. The breeds different stories are merged into one breeds story and there are cut-scenes taken out of the game because story is taken out of the game. The original plan seems to be ditched in order for this game to be released.

Destiny also have problems when playstation network is having problems, and Destiny also have problems with their own servers in periods.

Lagging players also causes issues to balance when they are lagging in crucible making games less entertaining.

All in all Destiny has a solid base to be something more, but currently is not.

Bungie also have a few things to explain with their current campaign Iron Banner and their Level Advantages Enabled, which according to experience and other players impression is so small that it can't be noticed for any difference. I also have this impression after hours after hours playing Iron Banner.

I don't know who's in charge of Destiny and what content it should have, but for Destiny to last, they should probably looks for a new coordinator.

There's a good chunk of content although very disjointed and uneven.

The UI is excellent - the art work, design, etc. very fluid. It speaks volumes and it sure looks like a lot of effort went into this. Although it's a little incomplete in some areas - it still excels here.

    The Bad:

The story is mediocre to non-existent. The PVP is imbalanced and lacking polish you would come to expect from FPS Veterans like Bungie.

There's not enough variety, locations, and the worlds simply aren't big enough to be considered an "MMO" and very repetitive and bland to be considered a top-shelf FPS. A great FPS Titanfall comes to mind in which the planets (maps) you visit all seem alive full of life (NPCs, creatures, etc.) - Destiny lacks that.

    The Ugly:

The game is too repetitive - there simply better co-op games and loot driven games for the ps4 right now - diablo comes to mind.

The boss fights are overly simplistic and they are mostly rehash with different models for the most part.

There is nothing special or varied about this game and most of the tasks become mundane and repetitive to a point where playing further can seem punishing.

    In Conclusion:

Bugnie has made a very pretty, albeit empty world. I found myself wanting to know more about the enemy, more about my hero, and just more in general. It felt like playing a glorified beta in which everything I tested worked fine, but in the end I wanted my $60.00 back. There are free to play games such as Warframe, and paid games such as Diablo 3 that offer more replay-ability and more content - as well as better co-op.

I think they set themselves up for failure being too ambitious they would have been better off doing a full blown Sci-fi story Halo clone. They could have implemented a great single player experience with their current map selection and offered a robust multiplayer with many match types and scenarios - everything would be fine. Instead we're left with a shell of what could have been waiting for DLC/content that will most likely require some sort of fee which I would be ok with had I not paid so much for the initial admission.

I could go on for hours about other "mmo"-like games that are available free to play that offer just as much content and much more than what is "Destiny". For one Planet Side 2 is coming out very soon and I think that's one reason Sony hasn't released it yet because that game alone would put even more stress on this game - Destiny does not live up to the hype or standards set forth by other games.

Destiny is a good game, one of the most fun games I have played in recent memory. However in the great scheme of things, it is a disappointing, soulless game that lost the potential being the next blockbuster franchise.

Okay time to start with the story....okay where's the story? You spent 500 million dollars of this "best game ever" and you didn't even try to have a story? Okay okay

Okay okay story isn't as important as gameplay. However, they have this big, beautiful universe with all these gorgeous worlds. But there is no soul in these worlds, we aren't given any characters to remember or interact with. The aliens have no motivations or features that set them apart. No motivations nothing. You feel lost, confused, and like you are just touring these worlds instead of being part of these worlds.

Now the gameplay. It's awesome! The three classes are very hard choices to decide from (Titan, Hunter, and Warlock) and level progression is satisfying. You feel like you have so much power with all the weapons, special grenades, and the super charged moves. Upgrades in armor, guns, and your abilities feel great. The mobility you have is fantastic, with the spearow and your own floating abilities. Gun control is near perfect, excellent shooting and gun weight. Its just very satisfying.

Mission structure is horrendous. There is one mission type and it is just endless grinding. Strikes are even more of a mess. Long boss battles with high amounts of health and very little damage is taken by them. Its just bad game design and after the first world you get sick of the main campaign repetitive missions. Enemies are recycled and it feels like the same mission over and over. Leveling up after 20 is just awful. The stupid light armor thing in order to go past 20 is a timewaster and takes away from being what you want to look like. Loot drops are completely random and almost unfair, just so you put more time into the game.

The multiplayer saves the game. Competitive is a joy to play and is very addicting as well. There is a sense of teamwork actually in this mode. Play it yourself, you won't be disappointed.

    The Good
    + Beautiful Graphics
    + Fun Gunplay
    + Great weapons and abilities
    + Multiplayer is a joy
+ Co-op makes story mission a little better
+ Free updates should eventually expand the game

    The Bad
    - No soul in this world or story
    - Repetitive missions/ long strikes
    - Recycled enemies
    - Random loot
    - DLC! Buy, buy, buy!
    - Major Disappointment (500 million dollars spent here!?!?)

Score 6.8/10 (Rounded to a 7) Destiny is a extremely fun game but it lacks the fundamentals. With no effort in story, repetitive missions, recycled enemies, and a lack of soul, Destiny goes from being potentially one of the best games ever to a barely better than okay game.

Boring game. The main idea is to find better weapon/armor. Only few types of AI combat styles. Atmosphere and world are pretty much satisfying. Multiplayer is awful.

With Destiny being a game from Bungie, the creators of Halo, there was a lot of potential for a good game with an amazing story and really good multiplayer. It did however turn out to be a complete disaster.

I'm not sure you can call the story a story, you're not really given any insight into the game world at all besides the fact that "you're the good guy, they're the bad guys and you have to kill them".

Then we have the missions, which are repetitive and boring to say the least. You fight your way through waves of enemies, deploy the Ghost and defend it against even more waves of enemies while it scans a certain object. That's pretty much what happens 95% of the time.

The multiplayer is barely okay, it didn't manage to keep me playing after the fiasco that was the story. The loot system in the multiplayer has gotten a lot of critique for the fact that players joining a few minutes before the end of a match (also players with really bad K/D) will end up getting the best loot. With player at the top of the scoreboards getting normal loot at best.

There's also the raid/strike missions, which sees you fighting wave, after wave, after wave of enemies and eventually a boss. But the loot you gain for the amount of effort you put into them is little at best.

All in all, Destiny had the potential to be a great game, but ended up being an overhyped game that failed to live up (or even come close) to the expectations.

If you're planning on buying Destiny, all I can say is save you money for something else, Destiny is not worth it. If you really want it you'd do best to pick it up when it's on sale.

The campaign is barely explained and if you want some sort of explanation you have to go to their website which is preposterous, the lines in the story are bland and far between your own character doesn't even sound like he/she cares about what happens in the game they don't question why they are alive or why they were brought back they just go along with it. At random you can get kicked out of the destiny servers in the middle mission which they released a patch to fix. You have to be online at all times to play which is stupid beyond any belief. And then after you hit lvl 20 guess what you get to grind for light armor which is a terrible system. And then there are the engrams which are given through a random number generator that shown several times to favor people who do terrible in multiplayer or a mission and give the people who did good nothing. And then in crucible which is one of the only redeeming values in this game is currently filled with fusion rifle users that do one hit-kills and hunters using the subclass Blade Dancer that needs to be nerfed immediately. Also the bosses... I have never in my life seen bosses this poorly done in my life as a gamer I mean this is bad very very bad Spoiler btw the final boss (if you can even call it that) is literally 3 minotaurs which are basically Vex Captains and that is the boss ladies and gentlemen, the fight was so bland and easy that my friend decided to start jumping in front of the bosses to make the fight more exciting. And even before fighting the 3 enemies that are together the collective boss you don't actually fight the main villain which is the darkness it just explodes after you kill the minotaurs leaving the player sitting their in confusion thinking "really that's it". Also on a final note you build bonds other than bonds of hatred towards any character in this game your own vanguards barely speak to you the gunsmith is useless after lvl.16-18 the cryptarch is just an **** who will decode engrams that you finally get after killing so many enemies and can give you equipment that is a lower lvl and finally the mysterious stranger exo chick adds almost nothing to the plot. And finally the biggest thing that really isn't explained is the Traveler, in the entirety of the story you are never once told what the Traveler is capable of doing, how the Traveler exactly preforms it's miracles, and how it's even still alive when it's main enemy forces are surrounding it. From beginning to end not once is the Traveler acted by any of the enemy forces and one of them have the ability to destroy planets or move them at will and not once do they do this even they easily could. So in conclusion I give this game a 4/10 ONLY because it can be entertaining....if you have friends playing as well, it functions for the most part, and that before the Blade Dancer fad appeared Crucible was balanced for the most part. When you get that piece of raid armor or that ascendant shard for you to upgrade your exotic you get a very satisfied feeling. The shooting is also very fun, but honestly the game is not very good. The only reason it's not a 3 is because of how fun it is to play with friends and the great shooting mechanics and addicting gameplay, other than that, pretty average game. Expand

It is very rarely that I leave a game early or do not finish and I left this game within a week

Mechanics, graphics were good and gameplay were really good, but it became really really repetitive within a matter of days. Missions became a blur of the same followed by the same, go to a location, kill, obtain an item, repeat...

Destiny is disappointing because of all the potential it had. You've probably already heard that it is a grind fest, and it truly is. There is almost no campaign at all and there is no context for anything that you do. If you've watched the Angry Joe review of Destiny, you may have saved yourself some pain. A real marketing scam took place upon Destiny's release, we were all suckered in by the TV ads, the hype, Bungie...what the hell happened?!

Luckily i didnt buy digital so i could sell the game when i realised around level 20 that there is nothing to do!

If you think 'oh she got to level 20, it cant be that bad' It is that bad. And levelling is very quick in Destiny.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. As you can tell from the score, Destiny wins the award for "Big Poo Sandwich" for worst game of 2014. The game is very bland. The formula never changes from "go here, shoot these things for some reason." The story was an abhorrence to the entire game, and it rather brought the whole game down for me. The story didn't really exist. It was just an excuse for people to shoot things. Even Tyrion Lannister could not save this game from being a bland shooter. The only thing the game to do to mix things up is put it in another brown and gray environment, which gets boring after the first million aliens. This game lasted as long in my house than Pixels did when the Oscars were considering whether or not to nominate it, and I'm guessing it lasted as long on the shelf at the store than Larry King has ever breathed. Just reached level 20 and finished the campaign the evening.
The 0's were right. This game is awful and the positive critics reviews and marketing are where the $500 Million went.
Absolute rubbish and NOT a MMO at all. Even the positive reviews make excuses - not a good sign.
Rent, don't buy, if you're curious.

Beautiful, but hollow. Like a christmas present with great looking wrapping, but just a bag of marbles inside. Bungies plan is to make this game last 10 years, but who the hell is going to repeatedly grind these very repetitive missions for even a few months? Not many.

After playing about 48 hours I've come to the conclusion this game was unfinished and overhyped to the extreme. The multiplayer is unbalanced, dull, full of COD-tactic players (run and shoot even on Control) and shouldn't even be allowed in this kind of game.
The story was written very poorly, but the COOP aspect is definitely the only good side to this mediocre broken mess.

What is most amazing of all is that despite its litany of weird little problems, Destiny is fantastic, its combat up there with the very best, the thrilling rhythm of its battles still not fading the 30th time through, and it has no single systemic problem that is not fixable. [Dec 2014, p.106]

Destiny is a flawed but still extremely fun first person shooter. While the Destiny universe itself seems intriguing, the storyline is told in such an incoherent manner that it's hard not to be turned off by all the technobabble. Fortunately the co-op shooter mechanics are absolutely perfect. The loot system can be maddening, but in a way it adds to the game's addictiveness. [Oct 2014]
