Let me start out by saying this game is probably a 5 but I gave it a 0 because the bungie fanboys have all given it a 10 to boost it's score. It is not a 10 if it were it would be perfect, no game is perfect so no game is a 10/10 (you may have noticed 360 PS3 and xbone reviews all have lower scores for this game). With that out of the way let me begin.

With that out of the way let me begin.

The single player campaign in this game is not just repetitive it is literally the exact same scenario over and over again past the third mission, what's more the missions barely last longer than the time it takes to load the mission itself and they all take place on the same maps. You are required to grind which unfortunately leaves you watching the same unskippable cut scenes over and over again. The loot is few and far between and the games AI could do without the 'I' at the end of it, your enemies present almost no challenge to the player. The game lacks depth and the drive to finish the game is noticeably absent. This is in no small part due to the lack of story and bad voice acting, where this games campaign does shine it's soundtrack unfortunately I find myself disconnected from the server too often to appreciate it. (There is no reason this shouldn't be played offline)

The Multiplayer has potential but unfortunately there are only 4 game modes and they are already being dominated by the higher level players with access to the best weapons. Sadly being disconnected from the server mid game is something you will also have to put up with. If you're looking for a new game to replicate your old halo experiences without any of the backstory, heart or atmosphere this is the game for you unfortunately it isn't the game for me. I will be returning for a discount at a used game store.

The "crucible" which is the player vs. player area, the maps are tiny, others have super over powered guns, no way to change the tide if you have a crappy team. The worlds are bland, you end up travelling the same place over and over again. Waited in line for this game for hours, paid for everything like the expansion pass and I am highly regretting it. I would avoid this game and do not recommend it. Expand

Mediocre. Looks and plays like a last gen game. Halo 4 on 360 looks way better than this. Go play that game instead. Avoid Destiny. Its not a good game

This is my second review for this game. I'm now at level 23 and can say I've experienced enough of the game to make a complete review. In short it's got even more boring and even more repetitive. This will be the first game that I have ever returned :(

Overall, it sucks. Here is why. The voice chat is extremely limited. I did not find this out until tonight. I thought voice chat in multiplayer was a given. What good does it do to explore worlds if you can't talk to anybody? I got bored out of my mind playing it because of this. So, only get this game if and when your friends have it and are available to play it with you. That is the only way you'll ever enjoy it. So, I thought I was a getting a huge multiplayer game that I might make some friends on, but no. You can't make friends if you can't communicate. The reasons Bungie gives for this are so stupid I won't ever buy one of their games again. I feel ripped off. Why didn't they talk about this at E3? No, it's just some little side story on an article you don't come across unless you actually search it.

NO singleplayer offline is totally insane, how can I love the game without a clue what the story is! since i do not have friend to buy this, its so hard to enjoy it, bungie clearly has the ambition, but it's not a great online game, please make another halo-like game cause its your strong suit, and by the way, it's not even close to borderlands.

So, I have been playing this game for about 15 hours and I have so say that it is not the game changer that we all thought it would be. Overhyped crap just like titanfall and watch dogs. Its boring and repetitive and it plays just like any other fps. I honestly want my money back.

I thought release version would be different from beta, but i was wrong. This game sucks. Its not MMO. Its a rip off Borderland. All you do is grinding, grinding and grinding the same mission. Go to point A and kill wave of npc, then go to B and do the same thing. For 60 $ you will get poor plot full of cliches, a lack of content, silly AI. It doesn't even feel like its a big social world. Because all you see is 3-4 people on hunting grounds and 10-15 in city . And there are even no tools to communicate with them properly. PVP feels like downgrade from their previous games, Halo.
And don't forget that Activion in the house. So you will see a LOT OF DLC, Wanna new content - buy DLC.

Bosses have just one move pattern, shoot. They don't react dynamically and don't have any special move. The game's boss design is absolute failure.
Enemies don't drop guns. so how dare can it be compared with Borderlands?
Mission design is linear rail shooter. And it doesn't have any escape scene, turret scene, melee-only scene, stealth scene, even sniper scene like old BF3. Just run and gun style and do we happen to be living in those 90s once again?

The game just feels like its on repeat it gets annoying you cant talk to no one its a antisocial game its just a mess this saddens me after all the hype reminds me of watchdogs flop

    Home from midnight release:
Setting up: Vanguard DLC doesn't work. I'll think 'whatever, I'll get it tomorrow or the day after.
Load the game: marionberry error, cannot connect to servers. Can't play game = can't review. Terrible way to make first impressions

This game is incredibly boring. It will not last very long. The single player is extremely repetitive, Borderlands has already fulfilled our need for a game like this. The multi-player won't be good, seems like a tacked on a addition to just increase the feature list of the game. If you enjoy grind fests such as WoW and borderlands, then I guess you might like this game.

Not sure if the Playstation Network having issues, but this game should have an option to play offline. For a game that is billed to have a "cinematic experience" all I have experienced is the in-ability to play it. The shooting feels very solid as you would expect from Bungie, the environments are large, look great and are fun to explore. The RPG elements are light but add a nice feeling of progression and it's always satisfying to level up or find a new gun.

If you are a fan of FPS games and like or can put up with light RPG elements then this game is for you. Do not come into it expecting it to be a massively deep RPG because that is not what it is designed to be. I would say the depth of the RPG elements sits around the same level as Diablo 3.

As for the actual areas they look nice of course but so much for this massive world spending the first few hours of the game visiting the same tiny little space-port as each return reveals yet another room in this epic warfare across the galaxies you will have to unlock to story corridor by corridor, same room after same room filled with same enemies after same enemies.

PvP/Crucible is a painful experience in a very small circular map, their is no real rhyme or reason to the flow of combat, supercharge abilities just one shot you or your enemy and its about as generic of a shooter experience as could be asked for.

The MMO-experience is wanting you see others but no point do you feel inclined to include them the controls and interaction and worse than basic with DC Universe leading the way on how a console should allow social interactions in MMO's, if you have friends playing the game it will increase the enjoyment but this isn't a game feature that's just playing with your friends and there are far better options for you to spend your money on to play together.

As for character creation was very basic a part I looked forward to alot but was let down very badly as about as basic of a face creator as possible not much else to say about this part.

Overall for the budget and hype surrounding the game along with the price tag its a total let down, generic warframe feel to the limited class options, 4 ability options for each class also screams warframe and the planetary mission selection and general UI is poor.

    PROS:
    It looks nice
You have have a orb that lights the way for you in darkness
    ehh. . . struggling here
    CONS:
Generic shooter experience with poor cover/Wait for shield recharge
Generic lifeless AI that just attack you in waves and do nothing in particular most times you can strafe and avoid fire
    Bland MMO experience
Social interactions limited with other random players
PVP experience is woeful mainly due to the base mechanics of the game and PVP maps are terrible little circles you fight in
    Poor UI

Anyweay, I have been playing this since midnight and I simply enjoy it. Battles are fun and hectic. Multiplayer is diverse and immersive. The worlds and locations are pretty and interesting. The RPG elements are enough to give me my own style. Enemies are fun to kill. Missions could have used a bit more variety. But what else do you want? It perfectly mixes different games in order to have its own identity.

I recommend people to not listen to certain reviews here. Some people did not research the game enough to know that it is an online, shared world shooter. The real game starts at level 20 with the raids. The multiplayer and connections with actual people is suppose to be a big element that people do not understand. Plus, this game tries to innovate the first person shooter genre in ways that people do not understand yet. I am currently giving this a 9/10 after what I have played. But I intend to give at least 100 more hours into Destiny.

Worst element?... The prospect of paying for more content. Otherwise it's damn fine stuff, single and multi player.

After a hunfree hours playing this game, I had to ask myself the question if it was worthwhile. The conclusion: It was not. While Destiny has exceptional, intuitive game mechanics, and a fun PvP, the game has so many design flaws, you could write a whole book on bad game design based only on Destiny. Here is a list that just scratches the surface:
    - Repetitive, linear mission design.

While Destiny has exceptional, intuitive game mechanics, and a fun PvP, the game has so many design flaws, you could write a whole book on bad game design based only on Destiny. Here is a list that just scratches the surface:
    - Repetitive, linear mission design. Lacks variety.
    - Boss fights are all the same: Deplete the health of a bullet sponge, while ADDs keep spawning. This never changes, regardless of level.
    - Unskippable cut scenes.
    - No way to control music and sound effects volume.
    - Over reliance on RNG.
    - No sense of progression at endgame. Level cap relies on RNG.
    - No established social system. Limited voice chat options. Forces you to meet other players out of the game.
    - No matchmaking for the game top challenges. Paired with the last point (forcing players to step out of the game to meet other players), it makes key game elements, like playing the raid, an inconvenience.
    - You have to find key points of the story out of the game.
    - Enemies spawning at the same spots, at the same time, always. Many other immersion-killing mechanics.
    - Hub area NPCs limited to vendors.
    - Open world lacks discoverability. No reasons to go off the beaten path.
    - Grinding. Hours upon hours of boring gameplay spent farming materials.
    - Limited character customization. At endgame, gear customization is reduced to selecting a limited amount of shaders. You can choose between a few abilities and the weapons you use. That's it.
    - Weapon customization is limited to choosing between a couple of set features.
    - Amount of content just barely acceptable. This must be a decision based on greed rather than incompetence, since the DLC with additional content, was advertised, and for sale, even before the game came out.

I'm just getting started here. The bottom line is, Destiny is a wasted opportunity. The excellent gameplay mechanics, visual and sound design, and fun PvP, saves this game from being a 2/0 or even a 0/0. Those are my two cents.

Activision garbage. A $60 game with 2/3 of the content removed on release so they can charge you more money to play the rest of the game. Nerfs all around for financial reasons only. Moving on...

Only reason I give a 3 is for the wonderful sound and environment art. Music isn't great though and no way to disable it.

Destiny disappointed a lot of ppl. What we get isnt a unique, epic, totally awesome (ok this one is kinda true) goty with a huge world to explore, but a sci-fi shooter/rpg that sort of blends into the sea of fps-es. I'll start with the cons since thats prolly what you guys care about more.

    cons:
no story - its worse than borderlands! at least borderlands has a continuous story with plenty of characters (not to mention how awesome they are); in destiny there is only you and your ghost who tells you to first go here then go there then go there for no apparent reason (aside from "to kill aliens").
repetition ftw - not only is the objectives in the game limited to go to a specific location, defend the ghost while it scans and kill a boss, the missions' location are also re-used! You would be asked to go to a place, kill everyone inside and completes the mission, only to come back again later and do everything all over again!
weak weapon variety - there are a few weapon classes, but weapons within the same class has little variations. They are practically the same weapon if not for rare weapons' special effects (which are not game-changing). They even share the same firing sound and reload animation! Hopefully this is just because I havent progressed far enough in the game (lv14 now)
weak player leveling - you dont choose what you get for leveling up; you get a predestined upgrade but need to manually activate it (by pressing x). They probably did it on purpose to suit the game's title. One class has a total of FOUR active skills! One of which is glide (alas, its not wingsuit from farcry 3. its just an invisible propeller) which is really a passive skill. After that you only get upgrades for existing skills. It is not remotely comparable to borderlands.
not a lot of enemy variety - honestly a problem for every video game.
Always online - Destiny has no pause button even when you play alone. I have also experienced disconnections (a total of 6 dc's in 2 days, tho I played a lot).

    pro: gorgeous graphics (not sure whether to thank bungie or sony);
    nice voice over and music;
    overall better-than-last-gen enemy AI;
    a clean interface means the game is easy to learn;
    fun pvp with players and spells flying everywhere in a huge map - but there can only be 12 players in a game;
awesome loading screen animations, plus u can access customization while the game is loading.

In its current state Destiny is by no means a must-buy. Ask yourself if you really want it before buying.

It feels like Bungie has built a framework for something huge, and sold it as a game by tacking together some gamey elements and hyping the crap out of it.

Positive: The gunplay, FPS feel, general gameplay is wonderful. The graphics and sound are excellent.
Negative: It feels empty and soulless at times. It's a feeling brought on by a distinct lack of depth to anything you do. Huge server wait times (some describe these as loading screens). Lifeless tower hub with only a handful of other players there. It's a very clinical, sterile experience.

So many people just say "Well make a hunter." That is a pathetic excuse. Or my favorite is "You just suck." I have both a titan and a hunter. On my hunter I average anywhere from a 2.8 to 4.0 KDA. PVP is horrible, they refuse to fix any of the issues. Supers and radar are just ridiculous in PvP and everybody just abuses it. I would really like a game mode without either but that would be hoping for too much from Bungie. Drop rates on items are better now but getting the best gear has to be done in the raid. I've completed the raid 6 times now on multiple characters (different classes) and have yet to get one piece of armor (only shards and energy). So here I am stuck on the 5th week without having any of the highest light gear. You can imagine how frustrating that can be when most of your friends are level 30 already. But it's ok, I guess you can make another character of the same class to try and get more raid gear. That about sums up how broken the raid is.

Moving on, the one thing I was excited for was Iron Banner event and that is even more broken then standard PVP. Not to mention the fact that it is only control ATM which is by far one of their worst game modes. Everyone just camps back with *wait for it* vex exotic fusion rifles and shotguns. No matter what you do, you can't outdamage a vex exotic rifle in PvP with another primary. Over 200+ crucible and iron banner games and I have yet to get a legendary or exotic drop. Really? I regularly finish at the top of the room only to find out I got nothing for being better than everyone else. But it's ok, we will give that guy who is 4 and 17 an exotic autorifle, he needs it more than you.

To sum it up, this is the most socialist-communist game EVER F***ING MADE that makes everyone just as good as everyone else. It's all about catering to every type of player and making sure no matter how bad you are, you will never be left behind. I'm sorry but I'm sick of games going down this path. This is not how Bungie use to do things especially with the competitive multiplayer system they once had their Halo games.

They keep saying this game will never be like Halo which is a problem because Halo scored near 100/100 scores from many reviewers yet this one is getting barely over 75 from critics. Obviously you aren't doing something right and it shows on your game. The fundamentals are there, the gameplay is there, but the finished product is lacking in any sort of meaningful content besides the same raid you can do every week, the same 6 strikes you can do over and over, and the same broken piece of s*** that is the PvP. I am truly sad that this game didn't reach its potential because I loved all the Halo games. This game just tried to be too many things and cater to too many people instead of doing what it did the best.

If you wonder why I give this game a zero is because the story is clearly not finished and has no purpose, other than to get you to level 20. In general, all the missions have no meaning to it therefore this game has no meaning to me, therefore the zero. Oh, did I mention the PvP? Yeah...so done with this game, what a pile of crap from one of my favorite companies of all time. Oh how times have changed....

I'll try to keep this review to the point whilst giving a very unbias view point as I came into this game with little to no expectation, having not played borderlands or halo, and not really kept up with the hype (as much as a person can do in this day and age).

Game time as of writing this review: ~10 hours

    PROS:
    + Beautiful graphics
+ Solid, robust FPS shooting on a well built engine
+ Vast array of weapons, armour, customisability
+ PvP online play is fun (as you would expect from a Bungie game)

    CONS:
    - Very poor AI (enemies will stand by walls, run into each other, stop chasing you if you leave the room, etc. It's possible to defeat a lot of the 'bosses' by simply standing in an area outside of their designated 'arena' and pick them off slowly; almost like PS1 old school game-style)
    - Bland, repetitive, formulaic mission (consist of going to an area, shooting the enemies until they're all dead, move on, rinse & repeat)
    - Poor versatility in gameplay (adds to the previous point - Bungie's idea of bringing a new gameplay dynamic seems to be to give you the same objectives but half way through the mission make respawning less available. Other options include using vehicles and using a sword but as soon as you get involved and start enjoying these varied mechanics, Destiny stops you and tells you to get back to shooting the infinite waves of carbon-copied enemies. In addition, missions often send you back to the same areas over and over. Dull.)
    - Poorly written storyline
    - Poorly written characters and, as a result, dull voice acting
    - The need to be online for the story mode seems completely arbitrary and near enough pointless, with people just wandering around your mission doing their own thing, not really affecting you or helping you in the slightest
    - Multiplayer can be difficult due to much higher levelled players with much better equipment playing with you
    - Buying new equipment is difficult as most vendors only hold items that are out of your level bracket or too expensive (usually the former)

    CONCLUSION:

These a few other niggles but these are the glaringly obvious ones that have annoyed me thus far. It's unfair to give the game 0 - 3 ratings as this game is very well built, playing perfectly well and for me games that don't work should have these scores.

I feel as though a lot of people are being overtly harsh and upset with Destiny, however, on the other hand, those giving the game 10/10 need to reconsider their definition of 'perfection' as this game is far from that.

The user score (at the moment of writing this) is 6.4 and I believe this is a representative score for the game (however, the means by which the average score has been obtained with very high and very low scores is something I don't agree with).

Destiny is a solid, if not boring, FPS that does not revolutionize the genre as many had hoped. The MMO aspects are few and far between and don't have much effect on the game, with most sections being boiled down to the basic 'shoot-these-aliens-move-on-shoot-more-aliens' mechanic of what is a standard, run of the mill, very good looking, FPS.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. I dont normally write negative reviews because no one whos made up their minds reads them anyway but i felt compelled to do so with Destiny.

On the surface after a few hours gameplay it appears to be groundbreaking and original it dazzles you with a whirlwind adventure backed up by the most polished graphics yet to appear on a console.

Unfortunately this is all an illusion, what Destiny is, is very simple, a combination of tried and tested systems from various games wrapped up polished and put together in a package that stuns and dazes you into believing its something its not.

All that said its not any of those things that lead me to write this review, infact until level 20 i was very happy with the game, its at this point i should mention im a going on 10 year wow veteran and once i reached level 20 i found my situation very very very familiar.

Weekly raids, daily heroics, rep to grind, marks to earn, epics to buy from vendors and a never ending stream of earlier content revamped for a higher level in which to gain said rep and marks.

To go into specifics about what i disliked about it would take longer than the 5000 words im limited to but to list a few, to get beyond level 20 you require gear with +light on it to earn gear with +light on it you have to do level 22 dungeons because only level 18+ rares and legendarys have light on them and level 20 dungeons only reward you with level 17 gear.

The rep grinds are insanely long, after 18 hours of leveling to 20 all the time working for the faction you start as i hadnt gained level 1 rep with them and there are 3 levels required to be able to buy guns from them for which you still have to earn the currency to purchase.

The currency system is flawed and overestimates how patient and committed console gamers are 3 marks per level 22 dungeon with a max of 100 marks per week with every gun costing 150 marks so your looking at 34 runs a week at 40 minutes minimum each just to reach your cap.

Now i have 12 level 90s on wow and i cant stand earning my valor max on half of them each week in all honesty, but from my own personal stand point this is a key flaw in the game.

Some have said the story is poorly written personally i find it entertaining if not amazing it reminds you very much of Halo and doesnt really shake the feeling of being a borderlands + halo hybrid all the way through the game.

What the game does well are things that have been done well before, tried and tested combat from Halo and Borderlands, RPG features familiar to any WoW or Rift player and if you personally have the time to invest 24 ish hours each week earning your marks and getting your gear and have no issues with the daily repeatable quests of WoW or Defiance etc then you'd probably enjoy Destiny for what it is.

A incredibly overhyped fantastically polished grind fest which is a mash up of 3 of the most successful games series of our era.

First off, this is not an MMO. You will not find a persistent world that supports hundreds or thousands of players. Instead, it's a series of instances with loading screens in between. I've even ran into loading screens within the instances themselves while scooting around on my Sparrow.

Destiny certainly feels like a meld of great games I've played in the past, which may seem like a good thing. Unfortunately, I found myself simply wanting to play those games and not Destiny.

As I said, I really wanted to like this game, and had high hopes with the first hour. Concerns began to creep in when I realized I was routinely fending off waves of enemies while my Ghost scanned or hacked objects. Went to the Moon, Venus, and Mars. The only change I saw were the enemies I had to incessantly mow down.

I've since sunken in dozens of hours and currently sit at level 24. I just cannot take the grind anymore as the monotonous nature of the game only magnifies it. Killing bosses is not at all rewarding, literally. They almost never drop any significant loot. They're incredibly static fights that simply require you to shoot the weak spot for 5-10 minutes while fending off waves of lesser enemies.

Perhaps time will fix some of the issues I have with the game. But there are also issues with the game that I don't think can just be "patched" in.

For now, I have to go with a 6/10. It's not a bad game by any means... it's just not very good at this point.

Speaking of wastelands, the world feels empty like in Id’s Rage. That game at least had more satisfying weapons/combat, ran at 60fps with remarkable fidelity and had some amazing facial tech.

I could go on further about the unbalanced and laggy PVP, terrible loading times, and other always-online irks, though instead I’ll finish with Roger Ebert’s summation of another expensive flop.

"The cost controversy aside, Waterworld is a decent futuristic action picture with some great sets, some intriguing ideas, and a few images that will stay with me. It could have been more, it could have been better, and it could have made me care about the characters. It's one of those marginal pictures you're not unhappy to have seen, but can't quite recommend.”

Destiny has great game play and music but lacks dramatically in almost every other aspect of the game. I'll though out story line, parts of the game ONLY available on the bungie website ( grimoire cards and create a clan) that should actually be in game, poor voice acting and a below average reward system. The game feels like a giant shiny brand new slot machine. Pure RNG doesn't make it seem riveting or fun. Even when you get an exotic armor or weapon you feel glad, but it simply wears off. With no loot pools or next to no confirmed drop rates, the loot feels 100% luck based and not rewarding at all. Not to mention the flaw in the raid, making it possible for people who don't know how to do a raid properly or even be geared for it, get the best current in game gun the Vex Mythoclast which is one of the only in game confirmed drops for completing the raid on hard.
One thing Destiny does good is the social experience. I have a lot of fun playing with others. Getting a group ready to run through the raid is a lot of fun. But even then, it gets dry fast.
My final verdict; don't buy this game hoping to be a triple A giant. Come into Destiny with low expectations and it may appeal to the consumer more.

Destiny is the biggest disappointment of 2014, maybe 13 too. I don't really see how people are comparing this game to Borderlands 2. Destiny is OK. It's not great but not unplayable. Plays like Borderlands without the Humour and Halo without the story. The gunplay is generic and there's very little to break up the monotony. The lack of proximity voice chat makes the game feel very lonely.

Hopelessly hyped, but at least not overrated. It is a pretty solid shooter, albeit very repetetive. However, this game would take the crown for most asocial online only game if there was such a price to be had. Pointing and waving are pretty much the whole repertoire of interaction possibilities for people outside of your 3-man group ("Fireteam")

This game is pretty much a poor mans Borderlands. Its simple. Kill enemies, get loot, kill more enemies, get "better" loot that is just a reskin of previous loot, but with a different color.

Missions are literally the same thing over and over again. Kill waves of enemies, protect the robot or kill waves of enemies while protecting the robot. or kill waves of enemies, while protecting the robot while fighting a boss. THis is just flat out terrible and being lazy.

No, MatchMaking or LFG. When you get to the end game content, you better have friends who own and play Destiny, because if you don't, you are pretty much beat and wont eb able to beat any of it. Other players are already in Strike Teams, so its pretty much impossible to do any of the end game content...unless you enjoy leaving and coming back and leaving and coming back to your home planet just to invite people to your strike team in hopes of them actually joining it.

I was never a Halo fanboy, or CoD, etc. I've been anticipating Destiny more for it's RPG and MMO elements than seeing it as strictly FPS. The idea of exploring vast worlds and interacting with other players throughout a massive universe sounded amazing.

How it sounded, and how it actually is are quite different.

I can't really make the best comment on how Destiny stacks up with other games in the FPS space. As I said, FPS games aren't my top choice. But, I will say that I feel Dust 514 was a better blend of FPS and RPG/MMO elements than what Destiny seems to be in it's current state. If the Dust development team had the Destiny team's budget we may have gotten an amazing game, instead we got one game that was probably too overwhelming and unpolished for the typical FPS gamer. And, another that is all style over substance.

Destiny was supposed to have vast open worlds...it doesn't. I've died multiple times by jumping over a ridge I'm not allowed to jump over, not exactly open world, at least have the area surrounded by toxic gas or some crap so I know how limited my boundaries actually are. You can see these vast beautiful areas, but you're not allowed to venture into them. As I said, the worlds are beautiful and I loved exploring through the tunnels on the moon, etc., but that doesn't make a game great, IMO. And, it's certainly a game that overpromises in the open-world department.

Overall I would rate the game as such:

FPS - 8/10? I'm not an expert here, it might be a great FPS, I just don't really know. I enjoy the FPS in Destiny more than I have in most other FPS games I've played.

RPG - 5/10 It's cool to check out these planets, the story is ok if not spectacular. The real problem I have here is the utter lack of character customization and town type locations. There are three categories and very little ability to customize those categories. Experience gains lead to a very set path of upgrades with little to no customization except from gear. If you're a hunter (as I have played) then you get the exact same upgrades as every other hunter, for the most part. The fact that there is only ONE city in the game with vendors etc. is also very limiting from an RPG perspective. There can't be human outposts in other parts of the world? Small bands of brave souls couldn't have figured out a way to hole up and protect themselves in a rough frontier life? The decision to make the world home to one human city seems to be a bit of a cop out to me, even the one city has almost no real method of interacting with characters or NPC's. In a two-hour type gaming session I might spend three minutes in town. That's just stupid. In fact calling this game an RPG at all is somewhat of a joke.

MMO - 1/10 There is no interaction with your fellow players. No real guilds to join or allegiances to forge. The fact that other people are running around the maps is almost coincidental. Your interaction with them is no greater than with NPC's on traditional RPG's. It astounds me that gaming magazines and review sites consider to apply the term MMO to this game.

I think that most the negative reviews is because this game is grossly over hyped. The story line is okay, graphics are fair and play is moderate. It has the same flaw as ALL FPS do. Like all other FPS the story mode is little more than a training tool, Maps repeat and the game is designed for PVP. PVP for FPS games are all the same so people lose interest once the next one games out.I think that most the negative reviews is because this game is grossly over hyped. PVP for FPS games are all the same so people lose interest once the next one games out. There is no difference between this, Halo, COD, KillZone, Battlefield...ect. A shooter is a Shooter.

This game was marketed as an MMORPG/shooter. There really is no RPG side to this. Yes, you can pick different classes, but there is really no difference in the classes. Another issue is that many of the articles about this game state that it could take week to beat the story mode, when in reality it takes a few short hours. There was supposed to be dozens of worlds to visit for the story, but that is not the case.

If you are looking for a "game changer" you are out of luck. The gaming industry has not game out with anything original since the PS1. The last time games were challenging was back in the SNES days.

It was a bold claim, dare I say audacity to claim that this would be up there with Lord of the Rings and Star Wars for its story and longevity.

As I said previously, mechanically its a sound game, but then again let us be honest, its Halo mechanics, story wise however it is very poor with a high degree or repackaged repetition. It relies to heavily on a grimoire external to the game itself, if people have to leave your game to get the story, unfortunately from a design perspective, that constitutes a failure in my book. If you put old and new games (Halo and Destiny) side by side I would choose Halo.

Looking back I would not have bought this in the cold light of day, I think I made myself believe the Beta was a small sliver of something huge, sadly its the entire game near enough, and only the background changes.

MP is fast paced but unfortunately the class powers do not balance overly well as you do not get the cohesive units working together like you can in a strike, hence certain class powers which work in concert and defence are overshadowed by one hit guns and cloaking.

I feel that another AAA game has been a disappointment and in 2014 I am still waiting for the big AAA to appear fulfilling its promises. This year has been a better one for smaller studios who have kept the corporate mind-set well away from their creation.

    Thanks for reading.

When your car is shipped to you, you get in and discover that there is no floor where you would normally have pedals. Further inspecting the car, you find that there is no ignition.. actually, there is no engine at all. You are meant to use your feet (like in Flinstones cartoons) to move the car. You are upset a bit but you know, you have spent quite a lot of money on the car, the company that produced the car spent a lot of money on producing and marketing it, a lot of people bought it - It all means that the car is awesome, right?

You continue "driving" it everywhere, seeing other owners on the road who smile really, really hard to you when they see you, but you can see their frown face in the mirror as soon as they pass you... You have this feeling deep inside you, that maybe you and other owners have just been **** in the ass with no consent.

Back to Destiny. After 10 hours of gameplay, you have seen all the content and all that is left for you to do is to repeat same missions, same bounties, same PvP matches with very random and poor reward system that is literally anti-rewarding. After you reach lvl 27, there is nothing to do. The most fun activity which was shoting a respawn cave has been "patched" as Bungie thinks that players are not playing the game properly, and "according to their vision".

Bounties and missions and recent Queen event is LITERALLY same missions, same bounties, absolutely no new content.

If a game that has been released 17 days ago has been completed thoroughly by players then I tend to believe that a game is unfinished and it was just a money grab.

Not exactly a lot of story of dialogue to it either. I think it gets it just at the right amount- enough to make people wanting more. The story is interesting and while I wish some things were explained better, I remembered that for Halo I referred to online sources in order to fill in the gaps. It was a very rich story, and I doubt Destiny is any different.
I was HUGELY disappointed in the level variety. There are different missions but it all takes place on the same maps. You follow the same path- you just "go a little further next time". I thought they learned their lesson from the Halo 1 days where they recycled quite a few levels that were unimaginative.
But let's look at the broken parts with this game. The campaign took me about 7.5 hours to play it all. This includes all side quests. It took me another 5 hours to level up through multiplayer mode so I could actually advance in the story (it's very hard if you don't). Therein lies the biggest problem with this game: Bungie is forcing you to play, not letting you choose what to play.
The theme ripples throughout the game: engrams, which contain "encrypted" items, has a really bad chance at actually giving you the color you want. Out of the 15 or so legendary engrams I got, only 1 actually had a legendary armor for my class, the other was a cloak for another class.. The exotic engram I bought gave me a piece of armor .... for a different class. Supposedly Bungie is going to make it so that you are guaranteed AT LEAST getting an item of the same color. So purples will yield legendary items or better. What good is it to get something that isn't even for your class? We will see about that..
So what do you do if you want better gear? You play co-op or multiplayer. Endlessly. Proponents of this system claim that every complainer is "lazy"; but I disagree. I don't want to spend countless hours grinding away at levels just to get an engram that might not even give me the item I want to unlock other parts of the game. Bungie better start increasing the item drops, that's the only way they're going to kill farming.
In traditional unlock system- you spend time leveling up and then you get to access another area. Bungie is leaving it all to chance. If you have everyone playing this game spend 100 hours on it, on just 1 character, some will have a higher completion rate than others.
I didn't spend $60 just to buy a game that unlocks portions on chance over time. That really ticks me off. On top of that they have the audacity to announce their DLC plan- $30 for 2 DLC drops. No thanks. This game is not fun if the mechanics are broken. Bungie is right, after 20 hours in it becomes a different game. A terrible game. It was fun at first, until I hit level 20, then it becomes monotonous.

Bungie likes to say this is their biggest game ever but they have been making linear shooters since forever so how is that a good measuring stick for a quasi-mmo like destiny?

The explorable area in Destiny feels tiny, a small selection of open world zones. If you played the beta, multiply the old russia zone by four. That's it. Earth only has one explorable zone, same for the moon, mars, and venus. Each one smells like cut content, too - King's Watch and the Jovian Complex on earth are still sealed after release.

The story is almost non-existent, or only available via the trading card like "grimoire" on bungie's WEBSITE, not in the game at all. If it was bungie's intention to leave the player in the dark, well they went in and smashed every nightlight in a fourty mile radius and it sure didn't make anybody happy.

The focus on PVP over PVE - illustrated by the majority of "events" revolving around the unbalanced pvp system which is rife with insta-kills and quickly demonstrates which class has the ridiculously superior supermoves.

PVE is left to rot, which is a shame because that was all I wanted from this game, with only repetitive strikes, daily bounties/publics to do like a checklist from WoW, and an annoying reputation system which for some reason isn't account-wide, forcing you to build up reputation all over again for any other class characters you make. PVE's strike playlist seems weighted or perhaps pruned to only provide the same 2-3 strikes in each rank, and is your only option if you want to be rewarded for doing strikes or any kind of mission once you hit level 20.

Which leads me to how players are rewarded in destiny, which is to say- they aren't. for all their talk of having a "cool story" about every piece of legendary gear you have, my only story is "oh the blue deckard cain cryptarch man ate 20 other purple engrams and this is the only one that survived" or "oh i went to vanguard-mart and bought these", hardly ~epic tales~ for the ages.
Additionally you will receive NO REWARDS for doing any story missions after level 20, unless it is a "daily" story mission. and choosing a strike to do with your friends which ISN'T via the playlist menu will get you roughly jack crap if anything.

Oh and get this: BOSSES DON'T DROP LOOT! This is an extreme wtf moment, they should be a loot pinata after how long they take to fight! Bungie, take a lesson from borderlands 2.

On top of this, a Playlist Strike takes about an hour to complete and you are maybe only going to get 2 blues (not legendaries) from completing it, and blues are completely useless once you hit 20, you NEED purples and exotics to advance.

Honestly shooting into that loot cave was more rewarding than any of the activities in destiny and it should have been a huge wake up call for Bungie, but all they did was close it, water down drop tables, and ensure your purples stay purple (the only good decision of the pack.)

For now I'm just waiting to see if my pre-bought DLC consists of cut content, a friend of mine is convinced that new dinklebot lines or other hollywoodians talking will confirm that the DLC was just slashed from the game and sold to us later. We'll see.

Maybe Destiny 2 will waste less money on bored hollywood voice actors and put more into generating content and fun things to do.

I also am personally challenging Bungie to patch in a better and more rewarding loot system so everybody can feel the warm fuzzy embrace of purple and gold drops no matter what they decide to do with their time in game. If they ever do, maybe my review will change.

Destiny is nothing more but a boring, highly linear and repetitive first-person shooter. A lacklustre story, forgettable NPCs, poor character customisation, last gen graphics, the list goes on and on. What you'll be doing the whole game is simply going to a certain point, activate horde mode and occasionally, face boss fights. Rinse and repeat. Different planets, same structure, same enemies. Defeating bosses are time consuming, the bosses don't even change their strategies, and after defeating them, the rewards are disappointing. The game does little keep you interested and you'd probably be bored after 3-4 hours in. Don't fall for this. I've sold my copy. I'm so done!! Expand

Although Destiny isn't the brilliant start to a franchise that many had hoped for, it's a great game for those who can push through its flaws and enjoy the ride.

What is most amazing of all is that despite its litany of weird little problems, Destiny is fantastic, its combat up there with the very best, the thrilling rhythm of its battles still not fading the 30th time through, and it has no single systemic problem that is not fixable. [Dec 2014, p.106]

Destiny is a flawed but still extremely fun first person shooter. While the Destiny universe itself seems intriguing, the storyline is told in such an incoherent manner that it's hard not to be turned off by all the technobabble. Fortunately the co-op shooter mechanics are absolutely perfect. The loot system can be maddening, but in a way it adds to the game's addictiveness. [Oct 2014]
