Batman Arkham knight does not live up to its predecessors City and asylum.

Now Batman sits in his Batmobile and is anything but discreet, you are often forced to drive around in tank mode and battle against other combat vehicles.
They also removed the boss fights, now you throw your enemies in the trunk of the Batmobile and take them to the police station.

To be honest I didn't expect much from this game. But AK surprised me. It was better than I thought it would be.

Voice acting is on par with previous titles.

Gameplay wise nothing much has changed. AK more or less does the same as in the previous games adding little new of note. With exception to the Bat mobile which is a nice idea but seems most of the time to be a very forced gameplay mechanic. Gotham this time round feel smaller than before. Predator areas are not as prominent as in previous titles and this time round seems to favour H2H combat and bat mobile combat. A pity as the predator sections of the previous titles were my favourite.

Story is alright but not on par with previous iterations. However the surprise inclusion of a certain character was very creative and well done (even though one was lead to believe it not possible.)

    Overall:
Arkham Knight is not the worst but also not the best of the series. It tries a bit too hard to innovate but unfortunately it still feels to much the same. The Bat mobile is just forced too much and the game does lose a bit of the Batman feel to it.

My biggest vice is actually the inclusion of the newest item in the series the batmobile. It's fun, responsive and a welcome change in the game. But Rocksteady went nuts with it, you're forced to use it excessively in puzzles and the story line. Toward the end you just want it to explode, or be stolen, or have an engine malfunction... Anything to stop you from having to use it.

Other than that minor gripe, the game is very good providing hours of entertainment.

An excellent game, but with one very divisive flaw: The Batmobile.
Combat: The combat is the main reason the Arkham series' fame. And the combat is the best in any of the Arkham games. With LOADS of moves to unlock, and even more powerful and newer enemy types (Example: The medic can revive downed opponents and electrically charge them for more damage). The combat never gets stale.

Batmobile: Now this may be divisive. There is a lot of driving and tank combat in the game, especially in the main story. The batmobile is fun to drive, looks beautiful, and controls like a car in a good racing game. The tank combat is fun, but it gets stale after a while, and it lacks the depth or fluidity of on-foot combat. So, I recommend doing some side quests (which usually involve on-foot combat) in between bouts of Tank combat.
The City: Gotham is dark, violent, and incredibly gorgeous. The game from a technical standpoint runs like a dream on the PS4, though only 30 fps, its very stable. The graphics are beautiful, especially the textures and water. Exploring the city while gliding feels amazing, and my favourite thing to do in the game.
Story: Not gonna spoil anything. The story isnt as good as Asylum. We can see Batman get pushed to his moral and Psychological limit. While the main plot itself isn't too complex, the characters, dialogues and screenplay are movie-level. The game is very cinematic.
There are sidequests involving recurring villains like Penguin, Harvey Dent and Riddler, and also FireFly, which are all a blast to play through.
The game will last you 15 hours on main story, about 30-35 if you wanna do side quests.
Ultimately, it dependa on the batmobile tank combat. Check some gameplay footage to see what you feel about it.

It tries to come off as free world but the side quests and challenges aren't interesting - they get old quick. I get that this game tried to focus a bit more on the Batmobile and that's fun but now you have to use the Batmobile to get this done or get that done. I mean, timing your roof top jumps in the Batmobile was kinda like the jump the shark moment for me when I realized that Rocksteady was just grasping at straws here.
So here's the problem I see for the franchise and any potential upcoming games - if we don't, as fans, let the developers know that we demand more from our games, we won't get more. These games are all the same - let's be honest - the combat, the story, the gadgets - it's like a bunch of DLC released as new games.
Like I said, I love Batman and I've enjoyed the series but I'm hoping to see a fresh reboot.

The Batmobile is on the game and I should say it is fun at first but it is over stays it's welcome I know that we all wanted the batmobile in the arkham games but in this game it takes the 50 % of the game and turns it into a world of tanks batman edition or the batman goes on war or maybe batmobile the arkham knight it feels like batman always need the batmobile to do something like throwing a rope a thing that in previous games could do with the batclaw that by the way is still in the game and it is almost useless.

Story: The story is the best I have ever seen in a Batman game very strong with great character development the only thing I was disappointed was the very obvious reveal of the Arkham Knight and the ending which it was ok but I wanted something more for the ending of this epic games. The story will take you around 15 hours to complete although I have to say that I really did not like the fact that you have to complete the game at 100% to get the true ending.

Graphics: The graphics are amazing on of the best looking games out there.

Notes: The boss fights are **** sometimes you may not ever realize that you are in a boss fight. But I really like the new gadgets and the team combos you can do when you take control of the Nightwing the Robin and The Catwoman. In the end it is not a bad game just it was not what we expected I think that this is the worst Arkham game to date but that does not mean I did not like it or enjoy it this is a good game but I think you should wait for a price drop before you buy it.

My summation of this entire game is: Meh.

I am a huge Batman fan and I loved the very first edition of this series, Arkham Asylum, but this game just did not do it for me. It was a fun diversion but otherwise it suffered from a few key problems that made me want to not even finish the game:

Tank Wars: The Batmobile was a fun new mechanic that was added to the game but quickly became old and tedious battling other tanks CONSTANTLY. Of the dozens of amazing Batman villians available, I'm flummoxed as to why I spent half of the game battling nameless drones. Who cares? I certainly didn't.

Riddler Trophies: Even further down the list of things that I did not care about was anything having to do with the Riddler. The Riddler in Arkham Asylum was fun and the riddles were a bit easy to collect and added to the enjoyment. Then in Arkham City, the Riddler was overdone, leaving trophies all over the city in an insanely unrealistic way which made the landscape look silly by having glowing green paint and trophies littered everywhere. This game followed suit and I can say that I in no way derived any enjoyment from the inclusion of Riddler trophies in this game; they're not hard, they're tedious time wasters as Batman trying to save the city from certain death or a gamer trying to experience the story, I couldn't care less about that arc. The fact that I needed to complete these for the full final ending sequence added to my frustration and that's when I decided to not spend another 8 hours on this nonsense and just watch the full ending on Youtube.

Not enough challenge maps / Microtransaction: One of the things that added a few dozen more hours to my enjoyment in Arkham Asylum was the extra challenge maps. I forget how many maps there were, but it certainly felt more than 4, which is all we get in Arkham Knight...oh unless we pay extra for them with DLC. I'd of course be apt to do this if the original game was satisfying enough but it feels like this was something they removed to make more money and I don't feel like supporting that.

Not enough Batman: As I mentioned with my frustration in the Tank Wars, this game is filled with endless nameless thugs and drones. Bad guys I don't really care about and whom don't really challenge me as a player or Batman as a hero. There is so much rich history and lore to dive into with Batman and I feel like we're getting a rehash of sidequest from Arkham Asylum as the main story here. I didn't really get to know more about Batman, Gotham, or it's heroes and rogues galleries and the end result was "Meh." An ok, somewhat fun distraction but not a game that really satisfied.

But apart from that I enjoyed this game, its beautifull and fun, but some parts in this game can be really frustrating, when you try your best but fail many times.

6.The portrayal of a certain returning character ;)
7.Amazing open world with lots of things to do like playing around with Photo Mode, collecting riddler trophies is actually fun this time, riddles to solve, stunts to perform, easter eggs to find, taking down vehicles and riddler informants etc.

    Cons:
1.Bad bossfights. There are some decent ones like Pyg's, Riddler's bossfight and maybe the stealth battle with Arkham knight, but the rest are just batmobile oriented and are kind of frustrating. But I got to say the excavator mission was intense. Also wish there were more one on one boss fights especially deathstrokes.Hopefully Season of Infamy will rectify that.

2.Overuse of the Batmobile and tank fights: While the tank fights are fun, as you progress through the game it feels more and more like a chore. Also the batmobile takes almost 50% of the game overall.

I think the batman mobile addition is a good, but agree with reviews that the game feels like it forces you to use it. Fights that involve that car can be tedious and annoying.

Getting 100% ending is easy, but very time consuming.

Riddles are fun but some are incredibly stupid to find.

Overall, definitely worth a buy now that it is cheaper.

The "Batman: Arkham Knight" video game has new and slick combat abilities that all of those that buy this video game can use again the enemies. The Batmobile has been long overdue for becoming playable in a "Batman: Arkham" video game in the "Arkham" video game franchise for almost 6-7 years from this year and it is a miracle that it is in this video game right now. This game is one of the most exquisite and best video games of this year. I support this video game because it avoids being repetitive of any of the combat mechanics (such as the electric shock gloves) of the other past "Arkham" video games from before and quite honestly, it is also a real video game treat. The plotline is a little bit predictable, albeit still very enjoyable. Sometimes quests break though, if you complete something you shouldn't have right now, you will watch batman have extensive knowledge in some cases, while in related quests he will act completely oblivious to events and facts you found out. But if you accept that, it will be a nice ride. Well, batmobile action is boring. It mostly includes eradicating waves upon waves of same enemies, sometimes new types join in and it gets harder, but it is still repetitive.

One thing for 100% completionists - riddler quests and collectibles are death. Annoying, annoying, repetitive, annoying.

As far as combat goes - it's the batman combat. I'd say the standard batman combat.

This review contains spoilers for the main story and some of the side quests.

Batman: Arkham Knight is a fitting send off for Rocksteady's trilogy that packs a lot of punch, but overuse of the Batmobile can make some parts of the game feel monotonous and repetitive.

    Presentation:

This is definitely the best looking game in the series, and one of the best looking games on the Playstation 4. The neon lights of the city and thebeautiful rain give the game a very dark, bittersweet feel. The detail on the characters, vehicles and locations is amazing. Watching the rain bounce off of Batman's costume and soak his cape never gets old, and the addition of a Photo Mode in an update lets players create some phenomonal in-game pictures. The sound design is also brilliant. The Batmobile sounds loud and ferocious, the combat is made more meaty and realistic as through the sound of hits connecting, and the soundtrack perfectly complements the game.

    Gameplay:

In terms of combat, Arkham Knight is as good as it was in Arkham City, with some new additions such as environmental takedowns that add even more flavour. You feel powerful but never so powerful that winning fights is a breeze, and there are endless opportunities to add variety with your moves. Stealth also feels just as great, and with the enemies now adapting to how you play, you must vary your moves to make sure they don't counter you and make you vulnerable. Enemy numbers in both Combat and Stealth are a lot higher this time, especially in Stealth, but the new Fear Takedown that lets you take out up to three enemies at once (five with upgrades) makes sure you never feel overwhelmed. However, it only requires one Silent Takedown to recharge your ability to perform a Fear Takedown, and so in some of the last few fights it seems a bit too powerful, especially if you have it upgraded.

The roster of gadgets feels better than ever, especially in Stealth, where the introduction of new enemy typse and Drones means you have to utilize your arsenal more than you did in the previous games. There are a few puzzles scattered throughout the story that require the use of gadgets, but they are so signposted that they require no more than 10 seconds to figure out, which is a bit of a letdown.

Now we come on to the Batmobile, one of the main features advertised for the game. At first it feels great, a powerful, hunking beast featured in battles against drones that feel desperate as you are vastly outnumbered. As you progress through the story though, the Batmobile seems to be forced in wherever possible, with endless tank battles in the final few hours and platforming puzzles utilizing the car that feel awkward and clumsy. It is also used in a side mission in which you defuse mines across the city, where the tank battles will really start feeling repetitive, and it is highly featured in the Riddler side quest, although the creative races here are a lot more fun than the platforming puzzles that are part of the quest. Also, there are a couple of sidequests (the roadblocks and the watchtowers)which involve hunting down locations and performing Combat/Stealth sections again, and again, and again, and for a completionist, these can feel very repetitive and boring, especially if you attempt the majority of them after completing the main story.

A major problem I have with the game is that by just playing through the story you do not earn enough xp to level up enough to make a difference quickly. Most powerful upgrades require at least 3 upgrade tokens, and most of the tokens are recieved from completing objectives in side quests. Overall, I levelled up and recoeved a token about 15-20 times in the main quest, which only let me focus on 8 or so upgrades. If you just want to play through the story at first, you won't feel much more powerful at the end than you did at the start. I highly reccomend you keep a good balance between the story and the side quests if you want to level up your character properly.

    Story:

The story is very similar to a lot of Batman stories, especially those in the Arkham series. The inclusion of the Joker in hallucination form is a welcome addition, and the writing is really good, but everything feels a little same old same old. As for the Arkham Knight, the titular character, his identity seemed pretty obvious after a series of flashbacks that seemed to scream "THIS CHARACTER IS THE ARKHAM KNIGHT", and so the reveal wasn't that surprising and didn't really affect me much. Overall it just feels too much like the past games, and can feel a little repetitive with the endless tank battles.

    + Great combat and stealth
    + Joker provides excelllent humour
    + Brilliant writing
+ Batmobile is powerful and fun...at first
+ Great variety in gadgets and moves
    - Batmobile combat is repetitive
    - Awkward Batmobile platforming
    - Repetitive side quests
    - Lacklustre reveals

Never before have I been as captivated by a game as I did here, I was genuinely surprised by how much I enjoyed this game, all around one of the best games I have played in decades. If not ever. I started off being very aggravated by the idea of Paul Dini not playing a large part in the writing this time around. But they pulled it off very well. This is without a doubt the Best Arkham game I have played.

The only problem I have with it is the 3 endings. The first ending you get is flawless, top job to Rocksteady. The second is.. I don't want to say **** but I feel it's an accurate description, The third is meh. I thought after getting 100% completion (in game) there would be a good ending third ending but I was left unsatisfied. however it did not take away from the overall gaming experience. This is definitely next gen. The graphics are beautiful, the gameplay is flawless, the bat mobile is awesome and My god when the Joker popped up I was screaming with excitement, that was the only time a game ever got me to be genuinely shocked and very excited. I dislike how there weren't any great boss fights but I like the narrative enough to forgive that.

The Story is the best of the Arkham games, the gameplay is better than ever, the bat mobile is incredible, and the first ending, marvellous job guys. It was a great way to end the Arkham series by being able to lock up all the villains too, that was a nice touch :). I rate Batman Arkham Knight 10/10. In my opinion This will be my GOTY, that is of course is battlefront doesn't wipe the flaw.

If you're at all familiar with the Batman comics, you'll see the identity of the Arkham Knight coming from a hundred miles away. The controls don't feel as tight in this game (especially the marble-on-ice traction of the Batmobile), and it does end up suffering a bit from "Generic Sandbox Syndrome." Regarding gadgets, the Voice Synthesizer and Electrical Charge in this game could easily have been left out. In the end, it falls short of the progressively higher bar set by Asylum and City, but is still an enjoyable experience for any Batman fan. If you're not much into Batman, you can probably pass on this one.
(If you do play, I highly recommend avoiding melee combat whenever possible, and going the "Predator" route in encounters. It's the most enjoyable way to play the game, and trust me, you'll get enough forced fights to fulfill your fisticuffs fetish.)

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Arkham Knight was a very good game, though not quite Arkham City I tried my best to keep an open mind throughout the game. The combat and gameplay is crisp and very engaging and the story at the end of the day was very well done. I was happy to see Scarecrow (one of my favorite villains) get a chance to shine in a rather intimidating fashion and the Arkham Knight, even though he turned out to be Jason Todd was actually a pretty awesome character himself. Though one of my complaints would be that they almost made it too easy to figure out that he was Red Hood all along. The Joker returning in the way he does was one of the best parts of the game, its keeps you on edge and every time he shows up and taunts a driven to the edge Batman, you get the sense at where Batman's mind is at psychologically. The Batmobile, I also found to be pretty cool though the fact that they made it such a necessity in the game made it kind of annoying. My only complaint was the riddler and all his trophies having to be completed before getting the best ending of the game. It felt too much like the Mass Effect 3 debacle and its a Batman game, I shouldn't have to spend time grinding to get trophies and solve riddles from one of the lamest villains in the DC universe. I've played only the main mission! And as a new PS4 gamer i found out pretty difficult at the ending. But the fights visual and the overall graphics were pretty awesome. As it's the last game of the Batman series the story went for a pretty long time! The riddlers puzzle were also pretty interesting. Overall Its a must play game for everyone in the PS4 platform!

I don't know why but i love this game so much maybe because I'm one Batman fans but it is certainly good game at PS4. No lags, no FPS drops like PC. The usage of Batmobile is awesome and it is compatible with Batman himself.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. The game is really great, but there's a few things that keep if from living up to the previous installment, Arkham City. Much of the gameplay is similar to the other game in the series, the gliding, combat, puzzle solving, etc, but the new mechanic in this game is the batmobile, which is very well designed, which is greeat for travelling across the city or engaging in combat. however this is used WAY WAY to much. You hardly spent any time outside the batmobile before you need to use it to progress. Although the combat against unmanned drones is well designed, it feels lifeless and overused. Most of the bossbattles are recycled batmobile fights, as opposed to unique bossfights seen in the other games. The story focuses on the villains scarecrow and the arkham knight, as well as (SPOILERS!) an imaginary of the Joker inplanted in batmans head by scarecrows gas and his own damaged mind. This story is fairly good, although many of the other main villains such as penguin and twoface are pushed into sidequests, leaving little room for new villains to be introduced. The reveal of the Arkham Knight's identity is well done as an adaption of a classic batman story, but is nothing new to the series as they promoted him to be. There is a glaring lack of challenge maps that were found in the previous games, there only being 3 predator and 4 combat, and far too many batmobile maps in place. Even though there are 5 playable characters, (Batman, Catwoman, Robin, Nightwing and Azreal), the challenge maps have set characters for each, limiting their replayabilit. Overall, the game has great gameplay and graphics, but has some major design flaws that keep it from being great. Expand

Another magnificent showing from Rocksteady and WB Games with Batman Arkham Knight. Gameplay is similar to previous outings but that's a good thing. Batmobile takes a while to get used to but is a massive inclusion and the game is better for it. I love the challenges in the game from The Riddler and also the time trials and VR challenges too testing your skills against thugs.

    Epic Game.

After seeing all the negative user reviews I was hesitant to get this game but I sure am glad I finally pulled the trigger. The main negative of the last two games was that it didn't expand on the gameplay enough. Well here is the Batmobile, an expansion to the gameplay. I don't mind it at all like some poeple, giving the game zeroes. OK, let's just get the two worst things about this game out of the way first.

-Tank Battles - easily the dumbest addition to the franchise. However, this is getting way overblown in negative reviews. I noticed there are many other things to do with the Batmobile, such as chasing down enemy vehicles and using it for some environmental puzzles. It's launching system is also super awesome, allowing you to effortlessly glide across huge swathes of the city. The game does not force you to drive the Batmobile, you can still choose to go on foot if you please. Also, the tank battles are not as frequent as advertised by those 0 reviews and they are very short most of the time.

-Riddler - After 3 games of this crap I think I've finally had it with the Riddler and his totally illogical puzzles. Unfortunately here he is again with more trophies and puzzle rooms which are easy, but many and tedious. Also, you need beat his stupid rooms to free a side kick. Touche Rocksteady. This dude somehow has the resources to build huge race track style death traps under the city. It's ludicrous. Worse villian of all time. The riddler should have never been more that the actual riddles that you need to solve by scanning in items in the environment. That has always been fun. The trophies and challenge rooms, not so much.

If you can get over those two things like I did, you will have a hell of a time with this game. The new fear takedown mechanic makes you really feel like the Batman. Throw a smoke bomb, take out three armed thugs, and then swoop back away before anyone sees you. It's awesome. The controls are tight and the closeups of the takedowns are nice and brutal.

The two main modes of combat, melee and predator, are completely intertwined now letting you choose what to do in any encounter. Stealth movement and grappling have been polished to fine sheen, letting you move effortlessly around and plan your moves. The gadgets are still plenty and a whole wealth of new options are at your disposal for taking out enemies. This is good because the enemies are smarter overall whether it's just regular melee combat or a predator room. There are also new types, like the medic who revives enemies you've already taken out. It lends some new strategy to think about. I have to say overall, the gameplay aspects are polished to near perfection in this game so you could just concentrate on being Batman. Gamepley wise, it's the best in the series by far. One detraction though, there still some camera issues during melee combat.

The story is also well done and all cutscenes are top notch. It's not my favorite Batman story, but I'm kind f a comics snob so there ya go. Batman purists have always found issues with Rocksteady's take, but it's their take and the production values certainly don't detract. Voice acting is top notch.

Environments are varied and you are tasked with some short puzzles in addition to beating down thugs as you move through the story. Certain areas also require some detective work, which has been enhanced a bit from previous games but still rather easy to figure out. Also let me add that the city overall is very well laid out with interesting nooks and cranny all over. From dank sewers to the highest point you'll never see the same things. The detail is simply superb. Great level design going on here, but some may feel the area is smallish, more on par with City than Origins. I don't mind that. I'd rather have interesting environments than some huge empty world like we saw in Arkham Origins.

There are a ton of side activities to do as well and the only negative I can say about them is they are required to be complete in order to see the real ending. That means Riddler and all his stupid trophies as well. However, the rest of the side missions are pretty robust and they don't feel tedious to do. Rocksteady will at times block of the pursuit of a side mission until you proceed further with the main story. I actually liked that, but some people will find it annoying. I found to be a good balance throughout the game.

Anyway, I guess I got a little long winded there. Long story short, if you loved the previous Arkham games you will absolutely love this game too. Don't worry about the tank battles, they are not that bad but definitely not "Batman" like. The Batmobile other than that is a fun tool to have at your disposal. I can't enough of the glide boost function. If you are on the fence like I was and if you loved City and Origins, just get it. It's a bigger and better version of Arkham City, which previously was my favorite. Honestly though, Riddler trophies. GAH! Why Rocksteady?

Rocksteady has promised there will be added focus on main gameplay with added villains and mission via DLC in the coming months, which I'm sure will balance things out as far as that problem is concerned. When all is said and done; without disclosing details on the story, this is enjoyable from the start to finish. The Freeflow combat system has come through improved again, with new ways to take down enemies and a fresh 'fear' takedown system which was really awesome to use, allowing Batman to take down multiple enemies granted they can't see you coming, which frankly makes a lot of the far more overwhelming and challenging combat missions more manageable. And for any fellow paranoid gamers out there like myself I will set your mind at ease in saying that this game managed to escape the Mass Effect 3 curse of having a terrible ending for a third game, as after you've poured hours into getting that 100% completion the ending is very fulfilling. When standing up to the other two in the series (Origins doesn't count) I can't help but say that it is equal to Arkham City in brilliance. Deserving of a 9/10, I'm gutted to see this fantastic series end. Expand

I was excited about this game with new graphics and stuff then I got to play it in August. Almost from the first step you take you have to use that piece of *&@{} Batmobile like a 9-year-old how just got a new toy. Okay I understand, if one day I will get an Audi I will go to the store and drive circles around my house with it, even take the car with myself to walk by my side. Its fun but that became hilarious after some missons. Every damn time after you punch some dudes in the face than you dont know where to go and a lil' batsound in your heard starts to say "come on bat, use your new vehicle" or Joker says "Ohh Baaaatz, you need to use something that moooves and has wheels". Its weird but you will know this feeling after playing for an hour or so.
Am I the only one who got bothered defeating the same villans over and over and over?! I mean, okay, they are the "batvillains" from the "batcomic" in the "batcity" and bat*&{}@ but I locked Scarcrow into a god damn prison for 2 times and that little freakin' Penguin for 3 times... I hope they lock up that GCPD building under the city cause my bata$$ wont save any more lives 'cause you guys are so unaware and forget to lock the doors for a night once in 2 years (even if its Christmas or Halloween and they wanna go home to their families).

Anyway, I give this game a 7, maybe a 7,2 because it was fun and reminded me of the previous games. If you havent played the prvious games or are looking for a game that give you some hours of pounching, driving, playing like a detective and sometimes you feel that you want to solve a riddle, buy it, play it out, its an avarage game, not less, not more :)-

A fantastic combination of narrative, gameplay and structured freedom. This is the best Batman game to date. The focus has driven away from stealth and more on the batmobile in this iteration, but the integration of the story that flows with the open world is only matched by GTA V.

Since the launch of the surprisingly excellent Arkham Asylum, there's been Middle Earth: Shadow of Mordor, Alien: Isolation, Transformers: Fall of Cybertron and numerous other excellent licensed games- something that can be rarely said in the medium of gaming. With Arkham Knight comes the senses shattering conclusion to this brilliant franchise (or Rocksteady's involvement in it anyway) and it's just as much of a masterpiece as would be expected. And while this review may be late (even if I did receive the game on launch day), in retrospect it's just as brilliant looking back as it was playing it.

The Arkham games have always held a place of honour in the mythos of the Dark Knight. While they may be removed from standard Detective Comics continuity, they portray the same level of excellence and depth as many of the hero's finest works, such as the Killing Joke and the Dark Knight Returns. The games also pay attention to the history of the bat-loving, bad guy basher with many references to iconic moments and Batman's past mostly mirrors that of in the comics (yet what shouldn't be expected is a brighter era like the 50's or 60's). Arkham Knight is a perfect example of how to craft a mature and well written Batman story that implements both emotional elements and a plot that sees the Batman out to save his city as well. While I won't spoil anything major, the basic plot overview is that Scarcrow is back from his brief journey onto Croc's dinner menu near the end of Asylum and he wants revenge for the injuries he sustained and the embarrassment he experienced- not at the hands of Croc but at those of the Dark Knight himself. Partnering with a mysterious armoured figure known as the Arkham Knight, who has his own private army and a seemingly limitless amount of money to spend, he sets out to not just kill the Batman, but to completely break him mentally and physically as he tears down his city and everyone he loves. As such, his terrorist threats against the people of Gotham see them evacuated from the city and into the outer reaches, which while being a very good set up to ensure Batman can tear around the streets in his new set of wheels, is also an effective way to get the ball rolling. It's a fast paced and incredibly interesting narrative, though you should also be aware for some slower paced and character building scenarios. And of course there are plot twists- many in abundance and some that completely change the way the game plays out. Last but not least, the identity of the Arkham Knight. It's been controversial to say the least, as many are disappointed by the obvious allusions towards the face behind the mask. In my opinion it was an effective retelling of a famous Batman story arc and so found it to make the story even better.

Moving onto the gameplay and while no major additions have been implemented into the combat and air traversal components, these mechanics are at their greatest height and seeing them perfected is a sign of how far the series has come. The Freeflow system is faster and features better animations, as well as the ability to pick up weapons and use environmental takedowns among other things. Grappling is faster and I even noticed Batman has better agility with some animations seeing him bouncing off walls. Stealth has also been mixed up with new Fear Takedowns and a greater range of options open in Detective mode. Being the ultimate Predator has never been so much fun!

Of course it's the Batmobile that makes this entry stand out the most though and for good reason. Despite everyone's claims of it being overused and the combat being repetitive, I believe that the car is bloody awesome! It handles well and can deftly drift around corners, while also having a boost system and suspension that is unbelievable. Switching into Battle Mode is simple with the tap of a button (on a different control scheme that is) and the amount of weapons and enemy types available is great. It's challenging yet enjoyable and mixes it up from standard fights.

Arkham Knight is jam packed with content, including tonnes of varied side missions, a fair amount of new AR challenges and a New Game Plus option that will definitely encourage you to replay it. To see the game's true ending though, you also need to complete most of the side missions. Complete them all and you can see the TRUE, true ending. This may annoy some as it requires you to get every single Riddler trophy and all of the villain's puzzles as well, but I found these more varied and easier to get than before and they are also in shorter supply so it's not a massive task.

It's too early to call Arkham Knight game of the generation (though the graphics are the best I've seen yet) and it has some strong competition this year with Witcher 3 and MGSV. But after 61 hours with the game and seeing everything, it's the best I've played.

These new additions are dull at best and actually take away from the gameplay that made its predecessors so good. I am of course specifically speaking of the addition of the vehicle which detracts from the game in almost every way. The world seems much smaller and less engaging because you spend most of the time looking at it from a speeding car. They shoehorn the vehicle into almost every level even in places where it doesn't really make sense.

The game is good but it isn't innovative. Its the same as Arkham City with a whole lot of pointless driving. Does that make it bad? No, but I had enough of Arkham City when it ended and I didn't really need the same game with a car added. Due to the success of the games predecessors I was left disappointed.

All patched up and running acceptably on PC. Let's bring it down to the level.

Absolutely nothing works the way it is supposed to, absolutely nothing is polished (except for the graphics, which are lovely [but completely dysfunctional]), and absolutely nothing lives up to the previous Batman games.

Rather than polishing the experience up to a fine sheen, Rocksteady crammed everything they could think of into a disjointed romp of fan-boy lip service, all focusing on the twitch-based ability to tap 2 buttons at the right moment. Repeat until the endgame.

    1.) Graphics

They're gorgeous. Absolutely, amazingly gorgeous. Dark and gritty, with layers of detail at every turn, and gorgeous special effects...and all of it serves degrade the experience. 90% of the time you'll be unable to tell what you're looking at, because everything is a crisscrossing nightmare of catwalks, odd angles, and vision-obscuring clutter. This "noise" coupled with the most asinine camera control scheme I've ever encountered in a game means that you never get to appreciate anything your seeing. Details are either something blocking what's important or something whizzing by the foreground of the screen as the stupid "cinematic effect" kicks in and sends the camera automatically panning around to the most obscure and disorienting angle and zoom-level possible. And if you need to get a sense of what you can do or interact with, you tap a key to make everything disappear into a wash of flat blue, orange, and yellow -- literally turning your objectives in glowing neon signs. So very immersive.

On foot, you literally cannot see what's in front of you as half your field of vision is obscured by Batman himself. That's right. You cannot look FORWARD. You are forced to play the game by glancing down and to the left to see what's directly freaking in front of you. Rocksteady, you gotta be kidding.

    2.) Controls

I need to draw a comparison here between Batman: AK and the much older The Matrix: Path of Neo. Both games introduce a wildly complex combat system with insanely complicated combos. And both aim for the same goal -- you can get through the game by using nothing but the basic attacks, but you can invest in the system to get through fights with style! While Path of Neo offers awesome combos and take-downs that let you set up a fight for brilliant, improvised awesomeness, Batman: AK refuses to allow the player any meaningful control over combat, instead forcing them to react to predetermined attacks constantly shoved in the player's face by endless "alert icons" that appear over enemies' heads. The game is filled with interesting approaches to combat evidenced by huge trees of combo and technology upgrades. Good luck actually using them at will, however. Every single skill or gadget that you attempt to use during combat will either fail outright or execute in the most illogical way possible. I guess Rocksteady was trying to add difficulty to a game that can be won simply by spamming beat-down and execution attacks. Nice. Now you're punished for improvisation.

Oh, and unless you're a professional typist, be ready to exercise extreme levels of patience. Functions that should have been context sensitive are instead placed in brain-dead locations all over the keyboard, such as quick-attacks required the player to double-tap a number key. Have fun re-configuring keys and avoiding conflicts. Even then, trying to glide while locking onto specific enemies while tapping number keys and switching gadgets without releasing the spacebar... How about a simple system allowing you to queue the attacks in advance, then a single execute button when you're ready to launch. You know, like actual tactics and planning.

And the Batmobile is a wash. Tank-mode? Seriously? At least it's only ONE-THIRD OF THE DAMN GAME.

    3.) The Story

I know nothing about the Batman universe except for the Hollywood films and maybe 10 episodes of one of the cartoons I watched with my nephew a few years ago. It took me approximately two hours to figure out who the Arkham Knight was. Brilliant writing.

The rest of the story is a confusing, disjointed series of events and references that requires you to be familiar with the universe and/or the prior games.

    4.) Conclusion

Why a rating of 5? Voice acting is brilliant. Loved the Joker stuff -- Mark Hamill is my favorite Joker after Heath Ledger! And I really enjoyed wasting time and beating up random rioters in the streets. Best part of the whole game.

Amazing game, the open world is very well designed and the new abilities in combat and predator are great. I do think that there are too many tank battles;however, other than that great game.

An incredibly mediocre game. There are far too few 'kick-arse' moments throughout the game and the idea that the Batman can't kill anyone is now absurd. You literally run over people in your Batmobile at top speed and blow them away with your 20mm cannon but they are all magically survive and are labelled "unconscious". That is just one example of how lame and uninspiring this game can get.

Batman: Arkham Knight is a great game with incredible graphics, gameplay and story. But, the batmobile at the end of the game is a negative point, eventually being overused.

This was an epic saga closure game. BE THE BATMAN!

Seriously, this game is amazing, the storyline, the characters, graphics, bs, atmosphere! Everything matches with what a Batman game should be: Dark, tormented and intense! I love the stealth mode, but I also enjoy kicking everyones asses in the middle of the street: "This is MY city, get the hell outta here!". The batmobile controlers didn't feel very natural to me at the beginning, but once you have a couple of hours driving it around the city you feel more comfortable.

This game double checks everything: Action, stealth, persecutions with the batmobile, riddles, puzzles, races, tank fight! But there was one thing I missed, a real epic final boss fight with Scarecrow, that's the only thing I would change, everything else was awesome.

Let's see if the DLC don't fall short with the game, I hope they don't!

DLC is complete garbage, a few brawls and fetch quests with the same main game mechanics but with a different character. Do not consider buying DLC at any price, if you're considering holding off for a GOTY bundle edition I wouldn't bother.

Batman: Arkham Knight is a game that could be "perfect", but fails in some points.
The game concludes the so well made history that started in Arkham Asylum and has excellent graphics.
The gameplay remains very good, like the previous ones. The final balance is extremely positive and Batman got the conclusion it deserves in the hands of Rocksteady.

Great combat, great atmosphere and a great story. The bat mobile sections in the game felt forced, once I got the hang of what I was supposed to do I had a great time. Not my favourite in the series but is still my favourite game of the year (so far.)

If not the repetitive, overpowered batmobile action that is built into this game it would be a 10 BUT forget that! The campaign is interesting, (spoilers) the way that the Joker killing joke stuff and death in the family stuff link into the campaign is amazing, it all makes sense and the suspense is enough too keep you on the edge of your seat with excitement! The dual play mechanic is BY FAR one of the most fun things in this game! and the regular combat could be one one of the best combat mechanics in gaming! AND beyond all of this, they still don't forget batmans code of conduct, he doesn't kill! this game is worth your money if you want a open world, superhero game! hope you enjoyed this review c: . Arkham Knight brings a big heaping dose of everything great from the past games along with introducing some new initiatives that make it feel particularly unique in the Arkham series lineup. The combat system and upgrade system are back form the previous games. The combat flows better than ever and the animations really give you a brutal sense of joy when you go to clobbering a bunch of brutes in a dark alley. Some complain that it is a bit button mashy, and I agree that overall it is, but that doesn't make it any less fun. I like to focus on the beatdown I'm unleashing rather than complex button combinations. To add some complexity you can really focus on using the various finishers that become available or you can change the difficulty and play without prompts to block/evade. This makes fighting a large group substantially more difficult without changing the experience too much. The upgrade system as been changed a little bit. You get upgrade points by completing side missions and can spend at your discretion. This is a nice way to incentivize the side missions. They are fun and all but get a bit old after rescuing the 13th firefighter or taking down the 74th militia checkpoint. There are not that many but it feels that way. I have read a lot about people hating the batmobile portion of the game. I actually enjoyed rampaging through town in Batman's pimpmobile and the tank battles but it does feel like it was focused on a bit too much. It just felt forced down my throat about 3/4s the way through the game. Boss battles were a bit of a letdown compared to previous games, especially a certain tank battle when all the militia have been defeated. There weren't that many boss battles that really felt integral to the game. They were just there to give you a taste of the rogues gallery and that's about it. The story was fun and felt totally like a Batman storyline. The big reveal was a bit of a letdown but I think they made up for it with the great sequence inside of Batman's subconscious. Overall, this game is a must buy for anyone even barely interested in the Arkham games. It has it's flaws (I hate the Riddler trophies!) but the fun will far outweigh them. Lastly, the DLCs are wayyyyyyyyyyyy too short fyi. Expand

The missions are mostly varied and fun throughout the entire game. The gadgets menu, main menu, map and mission menu are all smooth and very easy to navigate. Gliding around the city somehow feels even better than in Arkham City and Gotham City is really well done, it's a blast to explore it.

Now, the most talked about and most controversial feature in this game is without a doubt the batmobile. Some people hated it, I actually thought it was fun. Driving around the city is fun and it handles ALMOST perfectly. (The last Ridler track was a pain in the ass). Many are complaining that they want less "World of Tanks" in their Batman-game, and I can understand that. Cause a sizable amount of time is spent in tank combat, so if you don't like that you may wan't to think twice about this game. But, I would say I enjoyed the tank combat about 70-80% of the time, because it's really well done tank combat. You really feel like a badass when you take down 20-30 tanks on your own.

So to sum it all up, this game is almost perfect for me. The story's ending and a tiny bit too much tank combat are my only two complaints really. Ah wait, the fact that you have to collect all one hundred thounsand friggin' million Ridler trophies to get the complete ending is also a big let down... But none of that holds this back from beeing a fantastic game. No brainer if you are a Batman fan, and if you like video games in general you should also pick up this game, it's a blast! 9/10

Let me start with the basic stuff: the graphics are AMAZING! I've never seen so good graphics on the PS4 before! THIS is a next-gen game without a doubt! It's even better than the likes of Assassin's Creed Unity or Witcher 3. The details are just astounding. You can clearly see the rain on Batman, or if he's inside and dry. The buildings also looks great and the neon lightning from the streets make it feel like an authentic big city by night. All of the other characters are also very detailed, even more than they were in Arkham City. Everything just looks astoundingly beautiful, no doubt.

Having played both of the previous Arkham games, Rocksteady had a lot to live up to. Not just gameplay wise but story wise too. Now keep in mind that I know "some" about Batman from the comics, but only what I read online. I am NOT a comic fan! I'm just a regular gamer and Batman fan. The story serves perfect as the final outing of the Dark Knight, in my mind. Batman taking on Scarecrow and the Militia feels real and authentic as a final threat. This time Batman has to give his everything, and he does. Now there is also the Arkham Knight - the titular villain. I love his design, and his voice. He is believable as the greatest threat to Batman that he is in the beginning of the game (next to Scarecrow), since he knows everything about him, and he leads the militia and aids them by pointing out his weaknesses etc.

Then there is the biggest new gameplay feature: the Batmobile. Some people whine about it being used too much, but I disagree. This is Rocksteady's final Batman game, and they said from the beginning that they wanted to incorporate the Batmobile in the finale and put a lot of their focus on there. It shows that they did. The driving is miles better than in games like GTA 5, or Watch_Dogz. It feels much more fluid and you can use the breaks at full speed without crashing into everything. The tank mode seems to be the biggest complaint for some reason. I highly enjoyed all of the tank battles, and all of the riddler challenges which required the Batmobile. It felt nice for some diversity. I think the only people who don't like it, are people who say they want change, but hate it when it happens. Or just because they suck at it. Either way, as another reviewer pointed out, maybe you should just continue playing CoD or other games that has barely been changed in the last 10 years, if you like repetitiveness so much. Some people just can't seem to be pleased with anything sadly.

The combat is polished and you receive new moves and gadgets, which you will use a lot on your final journey. There are numerous ways to take down your enemies, either stealthy or just going all out. Again, adding some nice diversity if you like me, appreciate games that are not too repetitive.

The side missions are also awesome. I like the new "Most Wanted" mode, where you have a "main baddie" attached to every line of side missions, and you have to complete X number of missions in that line to get to him. Like the Penguin or Two-Face missions, where you work your way up to them, by spoiling their robberies/weapons caches so you can beat them and arrest them afterwards. Or when you have to destroy strategic militia outposts in order to gain full control of the islands, to get GCPD to patrol again. There are many sorts of side missions, so even after you've beaten the story which is fairly long by itself, you still have plenty of stuff to do afterwards. I love that Rocksteady sort of "forces" you to complete all of the missions, because by doing so, you get to activate "Knightfall protocol" which reveals the true ending. You can complete most of them and activate it, and get the partial ending and you can complete 100% and get the full ending afterwards. A great motivation to get you to complete everything, since nothing is tedious to do. Maybe except for some of the Riddler challenges.

The only downside to an otherwise perfect game, are the rather disappointing boss battles. This is where the Batmobile could've been used a little less IMO. But it's not so bad that the rest of the game is ruined.

Batman: Arkham Knight is without a doubt, the greatest game I've played in many many years. And I've played games for 12 years now. While games like GTA 5 and the Witcher 3 are both great games in their own right, they don't really have a lot of replay value. Arkham Knight is one of the very few games I can see myself playing just for the fun of it in a year or two again from now. I've already completed the game 200% (new game plus), and I still can't get enough. If Arkham Asylum was a 9.0 and Arkham City was a 9.5, then Arkham Knight is a solid 10, there's no doubt about it! If you haven't already gotten the game, do yourself a massive favor and buy this gem. I guarantee you won't regret it.

Batman: Arkham Knight is the best looking game in the series so far, and includes a lot of cool stuff for fans of Batman. But at the same time it’s starting to feel like Rocksteady is almost too comfortable. It lacks new content, except the pretty bad designed Batmobile parts. If you haven’t played the previous games that much you will probably think that this is one of the best games this year.
