The Bat could not have hoped for a better send off. Graphically astounding, narratively compelling, and featuring two utility belts full of new gadgets. This is bat-time very, very well spent. [September 2015, p72]

Rocksteady says farewell to the franchise with an utter masterpiece; its best game so far. Each element feels like a love letter to fans and to Batman himself. Batman: Arkham Knight is the perfect conclusion to an excellent saga, and it departs in the same way it once came: leaving us amazed and with great satisfaction.

Batman Arkham Knight is the best entry in the series. Rocksteady knows perfectly how to explode the formula established years ago, making amazing additions in terms of gameplay. You must play this game.

This is the best superhero fantasy we’ve ever enacted, and we’re so sad it’s over.

The technical aspects are not only eye-popping but they’re also quite stable. The graphics are slick, the sound is stellar, the control is rock solid, and the gameplay variety is downright tremendous. I love the blending of puzzle, stealth, action, and adventure, and you have to give mad crazy props to the overall game design. I still say the story could be less predictable (perhaps give the player a little more credit in terms of literary comprehension) and the Batmobile, as awesome as it can be, is just overdone.

Arkham Knight is certainly a bigger, and in many ways a better game than its predecessors, but those attempts to make it ‘more badass’ do more harm than good. Even so, any frustrations I have with Arkham Knight don’t take away from the fact that I was unable to stop playing for four days straight, frequently in awe. It’s a stunning achievement in many ways, a game of ridiculous polish and obvious effort, and its best moments are good enough to make the worst moments worth bearing.

Arkham Knight is distressingly inorganic. Continuing the predictable trend the franchise, the game learns the wrong lessons from its predecessors.

I picked it up at midnight and haven't stopped playing it since. The game is massive, so much content I feel like I haven't even scratched the surface.

Gameplay: Nothing too different from the previous Arkham games but this does it better. The old mechanics have been polished moving it into the new generation of gaming. The batmobile is fun to play and so far I'm enjoying the tank battles, but hopefully we see some variation later in the game.

Story: Although a little predictable for the more knowledgable batman fan, the majority of people will fall into the hook. Like a movie it's best enjoyed by just letting the narrative take you on the journey rather than trying to guess the ending. Im loving it so far though.

Visuals: cant fault a thing. It doesn't look as good as the order but it is like 10 times bigger than the order in terms of content. The characters look great, the special fx are probably the best i've seen in a videogame, i really enjoyed the big scale moments (infamous second son is a close second).

Overall I am loving the game so far and can't wait to 100% it.

As is often the case, the overarching black-and-white hero versus villain story is far less interesting than the hero’s journey itself. Batman’s personal trials as he fights to protect his friends and city, all the while struggling with a slight descent into madness brought on by the Joker’s dying legacy, is well captured here.

Despite some of its more convoluted Dead Parentsaspects, the characterisations and accompanying stories were quite moving, particularly the origins of the Arkham Knight. However something that I believe to be an ill-advised design choice on Rocksteady’s behalf was to lock the true ending to the game behind 100% completion of all the main and side quests. This would be fine if it weren’t for the Riddler challenges, of which there are a staggering 243. These range from simply finding trophies, to solving visual riddles or destroying specific objects that are littered around Gotham. Many of the aforementioned trophies are linked to puzzles that you must solve in order to get to them. These puzzles are incredibly varied and well-designed, and make complete use of all your gadgets, including the Batmobile.

It is immensely rewarding to complete all of the arrogant trickster’s challenges, but it takes almost the same amount of time playing the main game to get absolutely all of them. While I enjoyed this aspect, I imagine there will be a vocal few who won’t have the patience to persevere with the challenges, and without the true ending you aren’t really given a satisfying ending at all. The true ending (which you can view here), also poses more questions than it answers, and while dramatic and well-presented, does not give a sense of finality to the tale.

Arkham Knight is an interesting blend of many different gameplay systems. Part brawler, part stealth, part detective, part vehicular shenanigans, it takes many varied elements and does a good job of stitching them together into a cohesive whole. There is a high degree of visual and gameplay polish, and an interesting (if a little murky at times) multi-faceted story. However, during my playthrough I couldn’t shake the feeling that perhaps Rocksteady lost sight of the core of the Arkham games, and Arkham Knight ends up being only a little better than the sum of its parts.

Lucky then that each of these parts are so well-crafted, but when I look back on this series, it is Arkham Asylum that I will remember most fondly.

If you love the Batmobile, this game is a 9 or 10. If you don't, it's a 7... I didn't. I think there is generally too much racing/chasing and too many repetitive tank battles. I also thought that the stealth tank parts were absolutely brutal. On top on that, this game seriously lacked good Boss Fights. It's not a bad game and anyone giving it less than a 5 is a troll but I didn't enjoy Knight nearly as much as City. Like City, the combat and predator parts are excellent but I personally feel that the Batmobile was Subtraction by Addition. Expand
