This is hands down, the best game I've ever played, it gives a sense of childlike wonder to the player, with it's quirky, yet lovable and relatable characters, captivating story, and a seemingly clairvoyant way of playing with your emotions, then instantly setting you at ease. I enjoyed the hell out of it. And highly recommend buying it for yourself.

I don't know how to describe this game. It is the first game I have ever played that made me truly care about the characters, and I've plated a lot of game's. Basically Undertale is fantastic, if you haven't yet, go play it!

If you value gameplay over story like I do, you probably won't like this game as much as most people. For sure, this game is good. It's a well-made game with lots of humor and a great story. For sure, this game is good. It's a well-made game with lots of humor and a great story. But it's definitely not game-of-the-year material. People love indie games because when you don't have producers telling you how to make your game, a lot of really interesting ideas can be implemented in your game, like the combination of an RPG-style combat system with bullet-hell minigames. But this game is more of an interactive story than a game. And I guess that's what an RPG is supposed to be. But look at Pokemon. Look at Fire Emblem. Look at the Mario & Luigi games. Those are all RPGs that have gameplay that's just deep enough that you can be good or bad at them. With Undertale, the gameplay is pretty shallow, meaning it's easy to get the hang of, but not really satisfying. It means you can't be good or bad at the game. Granted, this is a plus to some people, like casual gamers, but to people who like a challenge, it will leave you wanting more.

The story and characters, on the other hand, are original and interesting. They'll make you laugh, they'll make you cry, yadda yadda, no spoilers. But most importantly, they'll make you think critically about the choices you make in the game. Normally, you'd go with your gut reaction when presented with a choice in a video game. But since this game isn't all that long, it really pays to spend some time seriously thinking about whether or not what you're doing is the right thing to do.

In terms of presentation, this game is definitely lacking. The game is not pretty. It looks like it could've been drawn in MS Paint. But to a lot of you, graphics don't matter, so you can ignore what I'm saying. The MUSIC, on the other hand, is some of the best music I've heard in an indie game, or any video game for that matter. Just look up the song "Dummy!" if you have any doubts. It really drives that atmosphere home, because the graphics surely do not.

Overall, this game is really good. For a game that came late on the simple-pixellated-indie bandwagon, it really is a special game. It just really isn't all that fun to play from a gameplay perspective, and it certainly doesn't deserve Game of the Year, especially up against games like Witcher 3 and MGS5. Simply put, this game is overrated, but for all the right reasons.

    Story: 11/10

Undertale is a game that knows when to be quirky, when to be tongue-in-cheek, and when to be morbidly, unrelentingly dark and real with you. When in the end, a character asks you to think about my actions which led me to that point, I realized that my blind adherence to genre tropes have led me to chose a sociopathic decision at the very beginning...and I felt genuine remorse! In the end,I opted to finish the game on an imperfect run, thinking I would just restart - instead, the game treated me to the most disturbing finale and boss battle I ever had...AND organically enticed me to replay it the way I truly wanted to! What else? Characters are deliberately anachronistic or archetypal, with notable exceptions...but Fox manages to paint a beautiful tablou on that single dimension some characters have.

    Gameplay 9/10

Within the limitations of a retro RPG engine, the big names of the industry struggle to innovate. Toby Fox doesn't struggle - he embraces the limitations and combines a challenging bullet hell mechanic with a standard turn based system. My recommendation for all new players is to forget about the EXP bar, as battles offer a purely skill-based and not loot/EXP-based alternatives. Puzzles are somewhat of a stumbling block, in that it takes a while for them to become a mechanic, rather than a spoof of adventure game puzzles.

    Music - 10/10

Bonetrustle, Muffet's theme, Megalovania...my God, the music is so good in this!

Final score: 10/10 - A MUST PLAY AND A MUST HAVE!!!

Toby Fox knew what he was doing every step of the way. I'm really appreciative of that, and for the fact that the game could have been only 2 hours long - but the donations for it were 10 times that of needed, so I am really grateful everyone could turn something so small into something amazing. When I first saw this game, it looked interesting, but It didn't look ten out of ten worth. I thought that the spare or kill mechanic was just a useless gimmick, but it was an interesting idea, and I eventually decided to buy the game.

Oh, I was so wrong. This game blew my mind. All of the characters are so memorable, and they all feel so real. On my first run, I killed a few important characters, and I regretted that decision as time went on. Killing important characters drastically changes the game, but that wasn't the real reason I regretted taking these character's digital lives. The real reason was, I legitimately cared for the characters.

So, on my second run, not only did Flowey (A Character you meet at the beginning of the game) dare me to kill no one, but I also dared myself. This lead to the "True Pacifist" Ending, in which brought so many different emotions. Real emotion. I don't want to say too much though, because this game is best experienced not knowing much.

I have recently done a "Genocide" run, in which you kill everything. You actually kill so many monsters, that you can't get random encounters anymore. It felt horrible killing these characters. The weird unsettling way the protagonist acted just added to this horrible feeling. As you kill, NPCs begin to disappear from towns, which just has this overall lonely tone. In contrast to the "Pacifist" Run, where there is humor oozing out of the walls, and all the characters act and feel like real friends; the "Genocide" Run is like a different game.

As for the other stuff, the music is gorgeous, and while the gameplay itself is really simplistic, it is still both fun and interesting. The multiple endings are really amazing as well. The writing is some of the best writing I have seen in my entire life. The humor is great too, although it is a very quirky humor, so some may not appreciate it as much as others.

The characters, and writing and where the game excels. Humorous, or should I say Humerus, quirky jokes, with great characters that are memorable and evoke real emotion. There are two characters I have to talk about though, and those characters are, Sans and Papyrus. I know for a fact, that I will never forget them in a million years, because not only do they cause the most laughs throughout the game, but they feel like real friends. There are so many things that make them memorable, Papyrus is a spaghetti fanatic, Sans eats ketchup, Papyrus says "Nyeh heh heh" a lot, Sans says the worst puns ever, which funnily enough makes them the best puns ever, and so much more. I don't want to say anymore though, meeting these characters without knowing their best traits makes it a great experience.

With the price of $10 on Steam, you just have to buy this game. I am not going to forget this game, and neither will you.

Without telling much of the story, I wholeheartedly reccomend the game. The humor and hidden things are simply great, without dabbling in the fact that the game often breaks the fourth wall; I.e. A boss whom killed you could comment on it, or if you've killed a certain someone in a previous playthrough the characters could comment about how you've seen a ghost or whatnot, and characters can faintly recognize you as if seeing an old friend for the first time in a while.

Don't listen to these guys with Negative reviews, they're mostly all troll accounts, or kids who only play COD and should be in no way allowed to review this gem of a game. Plus it's only 10$ So. With how much fun I still have with it, even though I wish sometimes I could forget all that I know to have a first impression again, I still get a ton of fun out of it. So simply stop reading the review, steer clear of spoilers, and go play Undertale right the hell now!

I gave this game a half hour of play time and it didn't grab me at all. The combat mechanics are trial and error as were the ''puzzles''. It's like they added random pacifist combat to Chip's Challenge. And the game is ugly on top of it. Call it an art style, I call it a low creative ceiling.

I'm sure it gets better eventually, but I've played better games that were made 30 years ago.

Story - Outstanding. Although slow to build up, the story quickly grips you emotionally. It is absolutely encouraged to play the game pacifistically, and I would recommend this to anyone.

Story - Outstanding. Although slow to build up, the story quickly grips you emotionally. It is absolutely encouraged to play the game pacifistically, and I would recommend this to anyone. You will struggle to see the best in others, and because of that you will be rewarded by witnessing their vulnerabilities and flaws. The ending that this all culminates in is incredibly touching, and many moment may bring you to tears if you allow yourself to become invested in these characters lives. There is an insightful array of meta-narratives that put to question assumptions and conditioning people are put into from most video games. This is the only video game that has brought me to tears.

Art - While minimalistic, the art style is well used. Characters have just enough detail that their expressions and unique flair can be put succinctly on display. There is an interesting meld of several retro art styles, running the gamut between 8 and 32 bit pixel art. The art really isn't the focus of this tale, however, and while could have been tighter in some areas, did not seem like an area of improvement necessary to advance the narrative.

Sound - It shows that Toby Fox is a composer. The music, while not all 16-bit, has a consistent retro bent. Almost every character has their own theme, and this goes a long way into adding to their personalities. There's an old saying in the game development business that music is 50% of a game. If that is the case, Undertale has that half locked down.

I only have a few complaints. One is that the pacing in the early stages before exiting the first area of the game called the "Ruins" was a bit too slow, padded by a few too many puzzles and random encounters before catching up to what I would call the real story. Another is that there is perhaps not as much resolution in the default ending (although I can see why from a thematic reason this is the case, to encourage more play-throughs).

    Before I start, please Note:
Going into Undertale the only thing I knew in Advance was that in order to get the good Ending you needed to resolve every encounter in the game peacefully.
    -
    First impression:
Well, at first the game just seemed rather average, although it's unique look appealed to me.
The Combat was, of course, very easy at this point and I already got the impression that peacefully resolving everything in this game will be challenging, frustrating, but fun nonetheless.
That impression changed when I got out of the "Tutorial" and met Sans and Papyrus.
Suddenly the game threw fantastic, funny and, if you dig a bit, deep Characters at me.
At this point in the game there is no big story arc yet, so you just take whatever the game delivers to you.
    -
    And let me tell you:
What it delivers is nothing short of amazing.
But....Sorry fellas, if you're you want to know more about the story, go buy the game.
    -
    So let's continue.
    -
Some might say that this game is having minimalistic, even horrible Graphics, and you know what?
    That's true.
    Does it matter?
    Not at all.
This game is so charming to just look at. The Character Models are all well made as well as all the environments in the game.
The Sound design is really fitting too. Even though the Characters don't have actual voices, the tone that they make while speaking is giving you a good impression how it would sound like if they got Voice Actors.
That way though, everyone is giving them they're own voice, which makes the experience more personal.
Kudos also to the environmental sound design since it does it's job really well.
    -
    Talking about Kudos
You know what else deserves Kudos? It's Soundtrack.
It features over 100 (!) tunes and is nothing but amazingly well made.
They match every situation in the game and can make you happy, angry or sad.
    -
    Let's get puzzled.
    This game has "puzzles."
Quotations because most of the time it aren't really puzzles in the way a fully fledged puzzle game would present them to you, but in a way that is understandable for everyone.
They even have an explanation to why there even are puzzles that is chained to the story in some way though, so not giving that away. - A quick look at the game's Inventory System. You can carry a certain amount of items, which can be found in the environment or be bought from traders. Other way around you can also sell stuff you found for gold, from which you buy more items etc. In some places in the world you can find boxes in which you can store said items. These boxes are all linked together so you have a lot of room for items. - These items also include: Weapons and Armour. Throughout the game you can find all sorts of these. All of them naturally serving a different purpose, with they're different stats. Even if you play peacefully, equipping a weapon can get you a nice bonus like an HP Regeneration every Round. - Fists up, let's talk combat! The combat is really fun. It's best to be compared to bullet hell games, where there is just a ton of **** trying to hurt you from every direction. Fear not though, it's far from being that hard or simple. Let me explain: When you run into a fight the game offers you four different options. - Fight - Act - Items - Mercy If you choose to fight, you damage will depend on you equipped weapon. The game will then flip into a sort of hit-the-button-at-the-right-time type of thing. Basically you have to hit one of three lines to deal damage, otherwise you miss. Act is where the peaceful part comes in. Depending on the enemy, you can persuade you enemy into not wanting to attack you anymore or to check it's stats. Items is pretty self-explanatory. From there you can view you Heal-Items. Mercy only applies to the peaceful players and after persuading. From here you can mercy your enemy and let them go which will result in no EXP gaining. After each action the bullet hell begins. You'll have to doge a wide variety of really creative things in order to not get killed. Whether you're flying while doing so, or jumping, it's really fun and challenging. (It can be frustrating sometimes though) - - I could talk about this game so much longer, but I'm running out of Characters ._. I'll close the review with a clear recommendation to buy this game. It has Charm. It has good Characters, It has a good Story which expands below it's surface and is actually very dark. It breaks the 4th Wall within the story. Is it flawless? No. Do these flaws disturb the experience? No. - That's why Undertale gets a 10/10 from me. - (First Review :3) -

    Determination

But in the long run, for all the appreciation I can give this game, I fear it will not survive the hype. Its content is a little too short and its characters' charm, while very appreciable for the length of the game, would probably not survive a much longer game. They're not shallow, but they're clearly centered around their own personality tropes. Sans is the only one I think could survive a longer game since he keeps an aura of mystery. But Papyrus, Undyne, Toriel, Mettaton, they were all very well-concentrated characters, in the sense that each of their story arcs lasts about an hour or less and that they all give all that their personality can give for that length of time. But for longer, I don't think they'd stay interesting or all that fun for long.

The semi-meh gameplay doesn't really harm the game since it's at least a good deal challenging at the start, but it's nowhere near great. As for the visuals, they're simply ass. I find no redeeming qualities in it, not even the "retro" feel, and the animation work is particularly weak, except for the bosses where they indeed have a lot of personality.

Still, with a great music and a cast that did make me laugh and cry quite a lot, Undertale is a magnificent little piece of indie gaming. And even if you kick out the "indie" aspect, it's endearing enough and worked enough to make a lot of gamers reflect on gaming and enjoy a new style of gameplay and storytelling.

I recommend giving this game a shot in spite of it's apparently somewhat annoying fanbase. I've seen people calling the fans as bad as Bronies, but the humor in-game is more along the lines of the Adventure Time fanbase from a few years back. The characters are pretty entertaining through, and the story is solid, but pretty simple, maybe up until near the end of Pacifist Mode. If you're not sure if this is for you, it may be worth ignoring the hype memes and giving the game itself a shot, because it is a fun ride. Expand

The game is mostly a bullet hell which I myself am not fond of. The rest of the game is purely static old rpg build. Also no power ups and a boring way to attack makes this a boring bullet hell.
    2.Graphics 4
I am not a fan of the art style.
    3.Sound 6
I like the music. It was honestly one of the most enjoyable parts of the game. It was classic and retro while being very well put together and fitting for the fights that it went along with. Although that is also it’s downfall, it is tried and true and not really a new or surprising thing in this genre.
    4.Story 6
It can’t decide to take itself seriously or just be plain ridiculous. When it is ridiculous it is overly ridiculous, taking things far beyond the realm of serious just to make a small joke. It tries way too hard to make you laugh and goes so far just to make a small joke that barely even made me chuckle. Then with a whiplash it becomes so serious and dark that it feels out of place and makes you think you changed games. In fact the seriousness doesn’t really even kick in until second play through. There isn’t a lot of history given to the player and there isn’t really a way to figure it out either. It’s also hard to understand the timeline of the world when you consider the 6 souls and how much time has passed since the first. Each scene feels painfully awkward and forced like every character you meet is trying really hard to be a certain stereotype. Papyrus is amazingly self absorbed and won’t look past the mirror in his hand. Undyne is the typical popular girl who everyone wants and everyone wants to be. Alphys is the nerdy, unattractive anime fan girl who is in love with the popular girl that you can find in every teen drama ever made. Metaton is just a celebrity pretty boy who is and wants to be the center of all attention in the underworld. Sans doesn’t make sense, since if he watches you this much and cares this much then why make it all like he doesn’t and let you kill all of them. Asgore doesn’t have the balls to actually avenge his son and instead waits around like a pansy. Toriel is kind to a fault, she doesn’t even want revenge against the creatures that took both her children from her. Asriel’s 180 doesn’t make sense. He is so resolved and lost in his hate and anger that he tries to kill you and the entire world. Then seeing you give mercy he suddenly gains back a soul he had lost, which is remarkably still his with all his memories intact and such seeing as how he died, turned to dust, was used to fertilize a flower, then said flower was filled with so much determination that it gave it sentience from the remnants of a left over soul, which is not corporeal, and drove it mad. You can’t regain a lost soul, at least not like that. The game makes a very big point of saying, in great detail, that monster’s souls don’t last after death. Boss monster’s last but only long enough to get absorbed and that is still not very long at all. If the souls are lost and become nothing so easily then it can’t possibly come back after so much time has passed and though such a ridiculous procedure. Especially when the experiment was done before and what came back was failed amalgamations that were nothing near their former selves. This would all be perfectly fine if the story was silly and allowed for deus ex machine unexplained crap to resolve it but it does actually take itself seriously through the last 2/4ths of the game. Lastly and the most disappointing part of the story is how it is given to you. Toriel explains in the beginning that you don’t have to kill, that you can make that choice. From there the player goes through the pacifist run. If the game was presented instinctually and mercy was a forlorn thought that only came about when you fought Asgore and realized he doesn’t really want to fight at all. Mercy is then opened up as an option and is opened for future play throughs. From there the deep dark side of the story is explored and the player’s mind really blows. Instead the story is silly and leads you right to the final conclusion instead of making you think and really look at your self differently after slaughtering monsters.
I need to point out that the story is not new. It just says out loud what takes place in every RPG ever made. The monsters/soldiers/enemies in general that you are slaughtering to grow levels and save the world do have lives, souls and families. Just because this game yells it at you doesn’t make it a new concept.
    5.Controls 4
The controls are standard and bland. Also seems a bit unresponsive and slow for a bullet hell.
    6.Replay Value 5
There is obviously replay in this game, but that’s the problem. The replay is forced and not a choice made by the player because they enjoyed the game.
    Final Score 5
I had this game legitimately shoved down my throat by fan boys who couldn't fill they're eye holes with enough of it. My review is MEH. If you like bullet hells and or rpgs then you may like.

But beware, if you choose to FIGHT... You're gonna have a bad time.

Also. I noticed a lot of negative reviews claiming that people are being paid to post positive reviews. Aside from this being insulting to the fans of the game, it also shows a fundamental lack of understanding of Toby Fox's (The main developer of Undertale) financial situation.

Have a look at the Steam store page, and then try to tell me that the 16,431 (as of this writing) positive reviews have all be paid by Toby Fox, a guy who until recently was only known for his musical works for the Homestuck comic series.

This is not some AAA game that is paying for perfect reviews from PCGamer and IGN. This is a legitimately well designed and now well loved game.

If you don't like the game, you are welcome to your opinion. But don't try to belittle the opinions of others by spreading bulls**t about them.

    Thank you.

I probably listen to at least one song from the soundtrack the day I finished it. The gameplay is exciting and challenging, but ultimately a fair fight each time despite what some people say about certain bosses. Everything about this game is spot on. And if you think for a second that this game is receiving "paid reviews", keep in mind that this game was made by just two people and a Kickstarter. Can one honestly think for a second that these people have the resources capable of pulling in so many positive reviews in a short amount of time? It would be highly unreasonable to think so, and a damn shame considering how much this game moved me.
I won't say any more, I refuse to. Get out there and experience this for yourself, you won't regret it. And when you do, how about actually beating the damn game and then judging it?

When someone says something "deconstructs" a medium they mean that the piece is pointing out some standard technique or situation in the genre that the deconstructing piece is in(this is often done humorously or used for emotional effect). An example would be as follows: in FPS games damage to your character is often shown as your screen becoming red around the edges. A deconstruction of that would be something like your character saying "ack blood in my eyes again!" (After all, why would your character's vision become red from being shot in the torso?)
A word of warning, deconstructions work best if you have a decent background in the genre the deconstruction is taking place in. You won't understand or appreciate the deconstruction as much if you aren't familiar with the standards of the genre. A lot of the references and clever tricks will sail over your head.

To me, this game is mostly about being quirky and deconstructing jrpgs/breaking your expectations for this type of game. The graphics are not that good (however I've never been one to care about such things). The humor in this game is mostly punny/"bad" humor. I quite enjoy this type of humor but others may not. A bonus is that this game is very cheap so you don't have to worry about wasting your money if you don't like it (if you're so strapped for cash that 10 bucks is a big deal you probably shouldn't be buying video games).

UNDERTALE is astonishing. The graphics may not be the most advanced or visually pleasing, but the story is developed in such an amazing way. I think that's what hits the players the most. It's the story. The past, the present, and the future all tie into this game. And another well-planned factor is that your own life feels impacted by the story. UNDERTALE is not a game in which you beat the story, and forget about it soon after. You will be so moved by some of the dialogue and backgrounds, that maybe you will change after experiencing this game.

Not to mention, the soundtrack of this game is beautiful. It strengthens the story by a mile. (Without reading the comment section, search up Reunited or ASGORE if you'd like. A little spoilery, but it is some of the best soundtracks in my opinion.)

If you want to play this game, don't wiki up the plot or any of the characters. Just see what happens as you play it yourself. It's worth it.

And don't believe the critics that say this game is for young children. In no way is it suitable, because there are hints of dark and sinister themes. But don't let this scare you. UNDERTALE also has elements of adorable, dorky, and happy themes.

Hope your adventure is filled with DETERMINATION.

Really very hard to give reasons as many spoil the joy and surprises in store.
The story and it's characters (which are anything but shallow, I really do NOT understand that criticism) alone are a great reason to enjoy this.

The Story however. seems a bit unique, But the endings are just absolute Horrid, They try to make the game original as death, with Endings that Just don't make any sense that your average gamer, wouldn't know to pursue, which to me feels as if it's for gamers who think outside of the box, who get the feeling that there's more to a pacifist ending (True pacifist ending?) Which seems like they're just canceling out a majority of people.

    * People use guides to complete the game
*The story lacks character Depth, honestly you're just a kid but the dialogue past Toriel Say's otherwise.
*The music starts, and ends in a downward spiral.
*repetitive Children's bullet-hell that lacks authenticity
*This is not hideo kojilma. this is some guy who Knows a bad game from a good game.
    * It takes many of its aspects from Earthbound. Which could be why it's so popular, Regardless, nothing about this is special.
In conclusion, Under tale is a Game that's repetitive and Dated, Lacking in a plot, Treating you like a solider out on patrol Serving A dead set purpose That get's annoying by the day. While it is an indie I can give it this much for trying. But they focused more on game-play, Music, and Incompetent Character depth which is never good in this business, They even have the gall to Put their music on sale. What more could you ask for? Such good compensation. I demand a Refund.

I played this game once. I know that's not all the content, but I don't think I could stand to again. The characters have no depth, requiring players to seek out other content to supplement the flat, entirely trope based characters. When you do not bring in that knowledge the attachment needed to care about the "decisions" isn't there. I want games to be fun. This one is work.

I cannot express the noise of disgust I made reading these reviews with ASCII characters.

The story is amazing. I actually felt myself caring about the characters, and I hardly care about real people! I couldn't do a genocide run because I cared too much about the characters! I got up to Papyrus, (like the second boss) and felt sick to my stomach after killing him. I literally stopped playing.

The music... I can't even begin with the music. Every boss fight has just the right soundtrack for it. The diversity in boss music is amazing. I don't know how he did it, but he did. I'm listening to the soundtrack right now! Just listen for yourself.

The gameplay is great. It's not just a generic turn based JRPG ripoff. It has some Touhou Project bullet dodging every turn. It takes actual skill to fight some of the genocide bosses.

The graphics are great too, but that's my opinion. Everyone has their own tastes I guess. But I read a review of someone hating the graphics because, well just read it. "How is tired when indie projects put pressure on nostalgia, these pixel games are just annoying! where progress?". Come on, really?

Overall, this game is quite easily the best game I've played in probably the last 5 years. Especially a game made by one freaking person. This is the one game I would give a 10. Even if the game isn't to your taste, don't give it a **** 0. That is just disgusting. I wouldn't give E.T. The Extra Terrestrial a 0. Errrrrrrgh...

If you find yourself unable to complete the game due to difficulty, look up how to get temmie armor (looking that up may contain minor non-story spoilers).

Did they even play games in the NES, SNES era? I honestly cant understand why people keep atributting so much importance to graphics and completely miss other points in the game. The focus clearly wasn't in any of that but mostly in the fighting mehanics and story, not to mention the characters and humor which are all amazing. Heck, I bet most of the people that wrote the really bad reviews haven't even played through the true ending of the game and just decided to give up on it after they completed it for the first time. These people missed the whole fun factor because they were too set on other things that shouldn't have importance in the experience in my opinion. And I gotta say many of the people that read those reviews are probably never gonna give the game a chance which saddens me because it's a really great piece of work. And I gotta remind you this was practically a one man work, sure he was helped by some people but the project was mostly his so you there is no need to be so harsh when reviewing this game.

Also, for being a very satirical game, its humor sometimes misses the mark. At times I actually laughed loud at jokes, while other times I just rolled my eyes or found them just plain dumb. Same thing with the plot, at times it got me excited and curious, and at other times it got me bored thinking it was dragging on too much.

The characters are interesting and grow on you after a while, to a point where I cared to try a re-run to see multiple endings.

"I was put off by the weird mix of retro graphics right away- Enemies from Galactica, some SNES sprites, some NES, and some PlayStation background elements." okay okay okay, in this part we can note two things:
    1- this girl is just a kid;
2- kids like to talk about graphics as it make some difference to the gameplay.
guys, we are in 2015, DON'T be childish to think that graphics can make a difference, even because the designs were made by only 2 guys with no professional tools, and I think they are pretty damn good for a two-person team, the animations are also gorgeous.
    TO PART TWO!
    "The "puzzles" are laughable with most involving remembering a previous room." wait vvwait vvvvwait... this girl is saying that most of the puzzles involve remembering a previous room?!11one!?? THIS. ONLY. HAPPENS. IN. THE. TUTORIAL. she only did the tutorial and sent a review to Metacritic! such a beautiful love story ;-;
well, I think we can conclude two things with this:
1- she only did the tutorial to send a review
2- the puzzles are not hard but are not like that, they are "fun"

    TO PART THREE LADS!
"The characters lack real development so accidentally killing one evokes no emotion other than annoyance that you ruined the chance of a good ending. It all relies on you resolving the cognitive dissonance of everyone raving about the game when it's just long, unpleasant, and dull in a positive way." ...so, this one is kinda long, but we need to do it so other people can play this wonderful game.
about the line that she says about the characters development, acording to what she played (the tutorial), the player only mets one character, Toriel, that has lot of lore to discover through the game.
also, when she says that accidentally killing one evokes no emotion other than annoyance that you ruined the chance of a good ending, she might don't understand what the game is about, the game is about K A R M A, if you kill everyone in the game you will get the GENOCYDE ending, if you kill some but also let some live, you get the NEUTRAL ending, and if you don't kill anyone you get the TRUE PACIFIST ending. so, what does that mean? That means that you have more than one playstyle, which every route let you know more and more about the game lore, so you need to end it more than two times to know it all! obviously, the TRUE PACIFIST ending is the one that is called the "good ending", where everyone /l/e/a/v/e/ /t/h/e/ /c/a/v/e/ and live hapilly, but every ending or the wiki are needed to understand the lore, who are you, who is the TRUE enemy, what are the monsters etc.
Now that we finished about that little child review, I'll just add one thing
THE SOUNDTRACK IS AMAZING (even if it was created by only one single guy, gj)

So, what I really wanted to do is to show everybody that the negative reviews are sooooo superficial that the game would have arround 9-10 points without them, cause they have no sense, who the hell would play the tutorial of a game and do a review? This is insane, I hate the fact that this kind of person breaths the same air that I do.

Have a good , kisses and hugs to everyone that read this all.

This is one of those magical experiences that we rarely see in this medium. By the end of Undertale, I had cried, I had laughed, I had got angry, I experienced every emotion through my many runs of this game.

This is one of those magical experiences that we rarely see in this medium. By the end of Undertale, I had cried, I had laughed, I had got angry, I experienced every emotion through my many runs of this game.

The sparing and fighting system is not only an innovation, it is implemented so well throughout the story and the gameplay that, for once, my decisions actually have impact and weight throughout the whole game and make me weigh up the options for everything I do.

Even if Undertale didn't have the moral system, the characters are the most interesting, fleshed out and lovable creatures you will ever meet. It is just impossible not to love them through all of their quirks and witty dialogue. Never had I thought I would love two skeletons more than nearly every other character I have ever encountered in a game before.

EVEN IF Undertale didn't have the moral system or the interesting characters, the gameplay is so polished and well thought out for an RPG that if future RPG's don't take inspiration from Undertale I will be surprised. Adding Bullet hell and Paper Mario elements to the battle system makes every single encounter, unique, fun, engaging, all the words you can think of, as they never do the same thing twice, each boss battle mixes up the formula, changes how you play in a way that you won't expect. This makes RPG random encounters fun, excited and not ever feel like a grind. I know. They did the impossible.

EVEN IF Undertale didn't have the moral system, the brilliant characters and the innovative gameplay, Undertale would still have a stellar story, brilliant enemies and bosses, the best soundtrack of the year, one of the funniest games ever and would definitely be an above average standard turn based RPG on its own.

Frankly, combining the best bits of Earthbound, Paper Mario, Final Fantasy VI and crafting a wonderful experience with so much love and care, it would be hard not to create something magical. I refuse to spoil anything for anyone and Encourage everyone to play the game at least 3 times. This is the greatest experience you will have this year and is an outstanding example of Video games being an art form.

This is 100% game of the year even compared to the Witcher 3 and Fallout 4.

I have given this game a two month cool down period to see if it was still hype. I can confirm it is not. I love this game with all of my heart and It is one of my favourites of all time.

Thank you Toby Fox. Everyone please. Play this game.

What a lovely indie game. Story and characters are interesting, combat system is innovative. It is a game redifines the meaning of story telling. The punishment for S/L also catches me.

I couldn't understand what the big hype around it was all about, until i had finally come around playing it

The battle system allowed for a lot of freedom, and the dev just embraced it completely which made for extremely nice encounters and boss fights. Every boss fight was a whole new experience.
The difficulty was extremely right. Every encounter had it's own trick, but always remained fun.
The game's pace never left me bored, or too stressed. It was just the right amount. Same thing about the world, and by that I mean that it wasn't too linear, nor a place where you can easily get lost in. Just the right amount of openness.
The writing and the characters were absolutely sensational. They were all interesting and well defined and interacted really well with the protagonist, whether you decide to be evil or good.
Graphics brought the feeling of nostalgia really well, while giving the game a very unique feeling at the same time, not just the same rehashed stuff.

I think that this game is right in every way and I cannot find any reason not to give it a 10/10.
It is an absolute masterpiece that deserves playing, even if you're not a fan of RPGs in particular.

With multiple endings based on how you choose to play out your run, set pieces that can play out very differently based on your actions and so many incredible moments that we’d love to share but daren’t do so for risk of spoiling anything, Undertale is easily one of the indie standouts of last year.

Through a combination of often relaxed but sometimes tense gameplay, a dreamy atmosphere, and genuine characters that feel like they’re actually alive and all living together in this isolated society of longing, Undertale transcends its medium and becomes a genuinely moving experience I would recommend to anyone who is open to a sometimes sorrowful, sometimes hilarious, always bizarre and engaging emotional journey.
