Good game. Here you can really feel like a hero of the universe of the SW. The system of boxes looks rather interesting, after they have removed the opportunity to buy them. Despite the ugly pricing policy of EA, microtransactions have been removed, so it does not make sense to reduce the estimate for this.

Do not purchase this game and support the predatory practice of Pay-to-win in a full price game. EA has been making terrible games for years and its time people stop giving them money.

EA doesn't care about the game play, the story, the cinematics, the balance, the consumer, the longevity of the game, or anything but making more $$$. All of those things listed are required to draw people in to make that happen and that is the only reason they exist.

The game itself is good! It is fun even with the thousand bugs.
I would give this game a 7/8 because of the good laughs it gave me BUT... BUT the P2W system in a 60$ full priced game is horrible. EA is mercenary and try to take advantage from it players.

Want to be strong? Pay more 200$

There's a fun game buried in here somewhere. Lovely graphics, and the card system reminds me of Warframe's fun (if grindy) customization options. As of the time of writing this, there are some fun videos floating around of someone who paid for a fully upgraded Vader playing horribly and absolutely wrecking everyone in the match. Just go watch it and then decide if this game looks fun.

Also, the disingenuous PR stunt that is removing loot crates and paid currency only to promise adding it back in later is disgusting. Go to hell EA. Dice deserves the inevitable death-by-EA that is coming to it for becoming corporate shills.

The base game itself is like a stale taco shell with nothing in it. All the meat/cheese/e.t.c. - essentially every part of the game besides the title logo - they cut out to resell to you in microtransations.

So, reviewing the GAME and not its lootbox scam - it's empty, underdeveloped crap and you should never even consider buying it. Or even borrowing it. It's pure cancer.

My expectation was to spend $60 on a game with interesting tactical opportunities, the authentic Star Wars aesthetic and graphics, deep gameplay mechanics, and fun, rewarding matches that reward teamwork and good play with advancement and achievements. The only thing the game delivers on is providing a visual experience befitting the Star Wars franchise; other than these visuals, the game is a hollow shell of what it could be. Even with the microtransactions removed, even if they are permanently removed and will never reappear, the game is still too "safe", too shallow, trying too hard to pander to the lowest common denominator. Variety of characters, classes, and weapons is pathetic, with the four trooper classes having only 16 guns among them. 16! The original DOOM, which was written by two programmers on a budget a tiny fraction of this game's, had 9 guns. How do you justify such lazy design? I can't get a refund for the game anymore, but I definitely am not going to get my money's worth, even though I didn't buy any lootboxes. I am a very unsatisfied customer and will not be purchasing any future EA games. Expand

The press review is a total embarrassment. When reading them, they are full of negative feedback, and here suddenly a high buy rating. We need to start to seriously judge games with loot boxes and microtransactions when it requires us to pay for goods. That why all game with loot boxes and microtransaction have for me 0/10. Let's not let ourselves be ignored.

my main concern is that the game is advertising gambling to kids, children along with venerable people are being preyed upon by the vultures in the industry weather it be the publishers or the investors.

This is just the beginning, soon enough we will have suicides because of gaming and in 3 to 10 years from now
if the industry keeps heading down this path we will have people with gambling addictions that started because of this new model in the gaming industry.

Weather it is cosmetics or ingame effects such as more powerful weapons there are odds & chances, you can win or lose so it is gambling.
There are even gambling sites for CS:GO skins and items and this isn't even classed as gambling yet because of the ESRB, kids are spending from £3 to well over £500 gambling all around the world.

These practices need to be looked at by governments and not ESRB or PEGI as gambling laws need to catch up to the digital era, the ESRB were started by the ESA (a trade association and lobbyist for publishers) so don't trust them to help.

Don't support this game, EA or its shady tactics, bad practices & no decent human morals.

As a game, it is great. However, all of the effort put into making it is ruined by the blatant corporate greed that has turned it into a pay-to-win game. Instead of working towards a solution to the credit earning problem, EA attempted to justify this greedy ideology. I feel a sense of pride and accomplishment for contributing to the rating that this game deserves.

EA, this is unacceptable. Just wow. Game looks great, sound is great. You have a god dang Star Wars license here, and then u throw it all away on making ppl pay full price and then adding pay-to-win free-2-play economy models. Others have tried to ruin it with loot boxes, cut content for DLC and season passes, and other predatory behavior - but this game is designed like the worst mobile game you've ever seen. That being said, the strength of the idea proves that the core mechanics does make for really fun game in spite of EA and Dice’s best efforts.
Yes, this is one of those hating on EA reviews and I am not going to dress it up as otherwise because while this game really SHOULD be a must buy and it’s clear EA and Dice have spent a lot of money and technological prowess on this game the sheer naked avarice and totally anti customer practices by dragging in the worse pay to win and mobile gaming’s physiological tricks to try and induce children to develop a gambling habit and milk those most vulnerable players into those much sought after transaction whales by making the game so mindboggling frustrating to play unless you carry on with the fee to play investments like making it so you would have to spend a working week grinding to get to play Darth Vader.
Yep that’s right, unless you carry on spending in already full price game, the key characters to even the battle out will be locked behind nigh impossible grind and you will lose to those who will just drop money to unlock them.
TL;DR Avoid this game at all costs.

    Campaign is mediocre at best.

Voice acting is sub-par and gameplay isn't really all that engaging. There are also a good few sections of filler where you just kill stuff in waves, or follow someone. Both of these go towards trying to extend a stupidly short campaign. It's seriously way too short. Arcade mode is meh, and the game forces you away from it if you wish to progress at all

Arcade mode is meh, and the game forces you away from it if you wish to progress at all (5 scenarios for 500cr, then a 22 hour cool down.)

Multiplayer is beyond imbalanced when you're first starting, people dominate you with higher levelled cards. You can be using the same weapon and shoot first, and still lose a gun fight.

Pair all of the above with a terrible progression system and DICE have a lot to fix.

As an addition to the above, DICE have removed the ability to purchase "Crystals" (the in game currency) temporarily. They have issued no clear statement as to how they will be fixing the game, but they have mentioned the crystals will be reintroduced at a later date (I'd give it around a month.)

I'd also take care to check whether reviews you watch on YouTube come from "EA Game Changers" who are paid by EA. You cannot take their reviews seriously as I do not believe they are impartial.

Boring arcade mode. So not for solo. Multiplayer now: classic pewpew party, no strategy or close to none. Grenade spam in choque point, linear maps. Very cod style, can be fun but stops after 2-3 gamess, which sad because you need 10 to buy a loot box. Progression system now: there was a time when you could enjoin the entire game after a reasonable play time. Now you need thousands of farm hours or dollars to get the full potential of each class. Their excuses about the lootbox incitating to play other class is bs, cause in the long term, the time needed to unlock everything rank 4 for each class is so damn high that you have to focus on only one. In the end trading the 40$ season pass/extension (like in the old battlefield days) for a mindless grind or insane amount of money was a **** deal for the player, despite EA trying to persuade us from the opposite. To finish on a good note, the environment and atmosphere are very well done and a joy to look at when you have te time to between 2 respawn. 7 for the atmosphere; -2 for **** single player; +0 for average cod style multi; -9000 for the 4000 hours to unlock everything; -1000000 for the random lootbox leveling. 0 in the end. Without this progression issue that could be an average game to pick on sale and have fun a few hours with. Tested during origin access. Glad this exist, saved me money.
[edit] Removing the possibility to pay for lootbox hoping that people will change their mind and buy the game, then adding it back later will not change the core problem. Random progression and insane grind to unlock the full game people paid for.

I have already put over 24 hours in and I am having a lot of fun. The game play is really good and the graphics are really high quality. The story line is a lot of fun and is a great addition to the Star Wars cannon. There is also already a lot more content then there was in the first battlefront and the DLC is free. If you are a Star Wars fan there is a high chance you will enjoy this title. i just wanted to give an honest review before all the review bomb 0's start popping up. I get that micro-transactions are a bad practice and shouldn't be in video games, but to review bomb because of it isn't a good practice either. All it's going to do is make people not be able to trust reviews. There are better ways to show EA that the loot box system needs to be removed from games. Remember most games that have loot boxes for sale are still charging for DLC. This game is at least giving all the DLC for free. Almost all of the stuff you get from loot boxes is also locked behind progression, even star card levels are directly tied to in game progression. You can't spend money to max out your character. Also as of now they completely removed the micro-transactions. I also don't understand why people are saying its gonna take forever to get all the characters, i have them all and i got them in less than 10 hours, and no i didn't buy any loot boxes. The game is grate, the sound, the graphics, the atmosphere are spot on Star Wars but bringing micro-transactions and transforming a AAA title into a pay to win game is disappointing. The PVE game mode has a credits cap and this makes it more like a mobile gae than a AAA title. Writing this review game me a sense of pride and accomplishment 0/Star Wars

Mediocre game hobbled by greedy devs and publisher EA.

While DICE have temporarily disabled it (not remove!), it is almost a given that it will be reintroduced after the authorities in Belgium retract their investigations and more gamers get suckered into purchasing the game. Please remember that EA is constantly pushing for "Games as a service" - which means they WANT you to give them more money outside of the cost of the game itself.

Take a stand and stop them now.
Show a clear message to the greedy corporate suits in Electronic Arts, Activision Blizzard, Ubisoft, Take 2 etc that we gamers will not be fleeced like fools!

Do not believe the lies, EA has not removed gambling crates.
They only turned them off amidst a backlash of gamers and Investigations by Belgium and Netherlands on whether the game includes gambling.
They will return but give vague and no specifics similar to the AMA on Reddit.
    Say no Gambling Crates!

A real step up from the previous game, but spoilt by the loot box mechanics, how can EA get away with this? They can't, user reviews are speaking volumes about the game.

This game would get a 5* review from me if not for the underhanded, vile, and predatory nature of the micro transactions put in this game.

Barring that, the game is mediocre at best. Its pretty but very buggy and the campaign is very lacking.

When you add in the P2Win mechanics, and the immense grinds put in the game to provoke you into parting with just a little bit more of your Wallet, it drops all the way to a 1*. Then finally, they decided simply buying these things wasnt enough, and shoved them into "loot crates." A box that contains randomized rewards, so that when they advertize a special "limited time item" (only found in these crates), you run out and spend, spend, spend looking for this item. They get around this being called "gambling" by saying, you never "lose" as you always get "Something" from you crate.

The ESRB and PEGI have both sided with developers that this is not gambling. Wheras Japan has cited that they consider these tactics to be predatory and a form of gambling, and since passed a law that these boxes must now reveal exactly what loot can be found in them as well as the exact odds of every item, so that people can make educated decisions about thier purchases. And now Belgium's gaming commision has just come out and said that in light of THIS game and Activisions' Overwatch. They now are opening an investigation into the loot box gaming practice to detirmine whether or not it is gambling. (Something PEGI didnt do, as they just sided with the ESRB without any investigation.)

    So overall, 0/10.

Quit being scumbags, EA. Your blatant greed is disgusting.

Update: EA has walked back their stance. and "temporarily disabled" microtransactions until they can find how best to re-implement them "after the global launch." Which is short for, please buy our game, we wont f*ck you so hard later, trust us.

Meanwhile, Belgiums Gaming Commision is now looking into EA's buisiness practices in light of this whole fiasco to detirmine if they believe that Loot Boxes are a predatory form of gambling.

Do not buy this game! Do not be fooled by EA temporarily removing microtransactions, this is just a last ditch attempt to boost sales. Once the game has been out for a few weeks they will put them straight back in. This a watershed moment, hold strong and vote with your wallets. Power to the people.

Tragedy, a pay to win game. EA made next money machine game. It could be nice game but look at videos on YT like fully bought by $ Darth Vader is killing everything. This sux EA!

Graphics, sound designs and content are all upgraded from the first battlefront, but so is the greed to squeeze money out of your wallet, which eventually overshadowed all the greatness and potential this game has.

Pay to win garbage. EA bluffing about 'changes' to the currence. They are deceptively trying to damage control whilst planning to bring microtransactions back after they've sold copies of the game.

Apart from the great Starfighter Assault mode Battlefront II is a mess of conflicting ideas, uneven mechanics and of course questionable monetization practices. DICE is facing long months of salvaging the game and the studio’s good name. [01/2018, p.32]

Even the tinsel of the Star Wars world cannot hide the silly story and the boring singleplayer gameplay, or the necessity to accumulate the credits in the crate hunting in multiplayer. Battlefront II pleases as a genuine shooter in the beautiful scenery, but EA should deserve a slap into the face for their mad progression system.

There's fun to be had, but for every step towards the Light Side, there's a foot stuck firmly in the Dark Side of bad design decisions. [Issue#269, p.52]
