The game has breathtaking visuals despite a few occasional hiccups and glitches. This game offers a short single player campaign (the first in the series) as well as large scale multiplayer online battles but it ultimately falls short in part due to an insultingly manipulative progression system that relies heavily on "microtransactions" or in-game purchasable that breaks all sense of progression and introduces "pay 2 win" mechanics into what would otherwise be an "Average" game. The developer's response has been equally insulting and overall Battlefront II comes across as a "Slap in the face" to it's loyal fan base. In all I give Star Wars Battlefront II a "0 out of 10" for manipulating it's users and tarnishing the once legendary "Star Wars" brand owned by Disney. Expand

It's not ok to have micro-transactions on a full-price game. If companies want to add micro-transactions to console games, they need at least to give the game for free, just like a mobile game.

Really fun game ruined by greed. If EA seriously addresses the progression and loot box BS the game is an easy 8.5/10. They took out the MT system right now but still didn't remove stupid crap like time gated Arcade mode where you can only earn 500 credits every 24hrs. What the fudge?

Consider this - yes, there is a lot of discussion about microtransactions going on, and EA's practices are almost criminal and to be despised on every level. Also their reactions to this outrage might be a thought through PR stunt. Who knows?

One thing is a fact though. If you ignore the issue for a second that this game has a pay2win system and just try to see the game itself, it's graphics, atmosphere, sound design, gameplay, level design, singleplayer campaign - It is a really, really great game.

Problem right now is not only EA's trustworthiness and the possibility that they actually won't change anything despite claiming they will but also that a huge amount of people are thinking they're doing the right thing when they're spreading false information or are blowing things way out of proportion which has happened and even lead to a lot of media misrepresentation. (Death threats, refund button)

EA could literally remove the whole system and make the game be totally fine, and you would still see posts claiming that it'S fake and EA is trying to trick you.

If you're looking at reviews for this game to decide if you should take the chance and buy it, you won't find anything useful.

90% of reviews here on metacritic are either hatetrain **** or from people who have not even played the game at all and are just trying to keep the fire going. Because in the end, the game itself is great - But nobody cares about this.

No, i am not working at or for EA, i am just a gamer that despises when communities outrage about disgusting developer behavior while using the same tactics to stir the fire.

How is it fair to do the same amount or work and put in the same amount of skill in a game but progress your character unevenly just because you didn't get a good loot box and someone else did? That's obscene. It would be like skyrim rewarding you random amounts of xp every time you did a quest instead of a constant known number.

Just some good/great games that DO NOT have micro transaction bullcrap tied to them. Do any micro transaction games like codww2, assassins creed origins, forza 7, overwatch, destiny 1/2, battle field 1, halo 5, gears 4, and of course this crappy star wars game, have ANYTHING close to the level of greatness of those titles I just mentioned? NO! They don't... You're not really missing out here if you refuse to play/purchase this game. ESPECIALLY this one.

I realize that if I did play this crappy game I would have a more clear understanding of how bad it is in greater detail. That's not necessary though... At least not for me.

You see... I'm 30 and been gaming since I was like 2 or some crap. It's my biggest hobby and I never stopped. So I have some experience in the gaming world and have decent/good/great taste in video game quality. In other words... I have standards and you can take my thoughts seriously enough. So since that's the case with me... I can tell you right now for a fact that this game is poison for the gaming world.

Wake up my fellow gamers. I know most of you guys are sheep who would buy a turd off the game stop shelf if it had star wars etched onto it's surface... But that's why you should learn from your mistakes. I once too was a retarded fanboy loser who defended companies that I liked no matter what. What happened? I grew up... I got smart... I became capable of detecting turds like this game coming from a mile away. So what if I haven't played this game? You don't have to play a crappy game to know that it's a crappy game. A little bit of research and gaming experience with common sense should figure that out for you. I don't have to eat a pile of dog crap to know that it tastes like dog crap do I? I never been stabbed in my hand with a big knight before but I know it would be very unpleasant!

Us TRUE gamers have good instincts about this sort of stuff. You ever see those tests where they show a baby a picture of a scary looking spider or a snake that looks like it's about to bite you? In those tests the babies often get scared. That's because it's basic human nature to be scared of stuff like that. We grew up and evolved with these creatures for such a long time that it's in our genetic make up to be afraid of those things because they can hurt/kill us. Instincts yo! Well guess what guys? With TRUE gamers the feeling is similar when we hold our wallets whilst wondering how we would feel if we were to waste our money a crappy game like payupfront2.

The micro transactions in this game are on a level of butt ****ery that's never before been seen until now. This is a bad joke turned real life unto the gaming world folks. As gaming evolves... So do micro transactions. This is the next level of evolution for micro transactions.

I been fighting micro transactions for years now. Ever since I bought Destiny 1 and realized I made one of the biggest gaming mistakes of my life. That game opened my eyes to how lame micro transaction games are. Bungie gave me nothing but great/good halo game experiences for a decade and then they give us destiny which totally sucked. I was heart broken. But it was a wake up call. From that moment forward I smartened up and learned to not support micro transaction games at all costs.

A lot of sheep have told me that I'm being too extreme. That a lot of micro transactions are not that bad. Really? Well good job kids. It's morons like you who are letting companies like EA put out horribly micro transaction rich games like this one.

Some folks say that if the micro transactions are cosmetic only it's not a problem. I disagree. Remember old fighting games where you could unlock costumes of characters by accomplishing certain challenges? That was great! Gave you incentive to play the game and get better. Now you just buy it... LAME! Also devs only have so much time to make the game as good as it can be. If they waste time making a crappy micro transaction system then that's precious time lost that they could have spent on making the game actually better. And finally... Yeah sure cosmetic only micro transactions may be much better than pay to win/one time use type micro transactions but it's still a gate way to future games making micro transactions worse and worse. And now look... Here we are... The worst micro transaction game yet(as far as I know) or at least the most popular worst micro transaction game yet. Give em a inch and they will take a mile...

I gave it a 1 which I know is kind of high but hey... I'm a nice guy : )

Even thought the game has amazing graphics the micro transactions present in this game are 'pay-to-win' and promote gambling to children. Even though EA has temporarily removed them, they also stated they will reintroduce them later. This standard is unacceptable in the gaming industry and no one should be supporting the shady and anti-consumer practices of EA.

Star Wars Gamble Front 2 looks and sounds great. However, they prey on the addictive nature of gambling by using loot boxes. Loot boxes are the only means of acquiring new items (which the items are random in nature). The game makes you grind unrealistic hours to unlock everything or you can pay for the loot boxes. While the micro-transactions are gone now, it is only temporary.

This level of polish is very disappointing for a game which was touted as having amazing environments. It's a lot like Mass Effect Andromeda in this regard. It looks great in screenshots and scripted trailers that hide it's faults but is unplayable as a game.

The balance gives you no sense of accomplishment whatsoever because you cannot get good at this game. You can only just play it and leave the outcome up to RNG.

The thing that makes the game truly horrible is the fact that while the game itself is filled with bugs, they put all their effort into the microtransactions scheme. Their response to our displeasure, their attitude towards the whole issue, their attempt to use the psychological weaknesses that gamblers suffer from against players that might not even adults yet, their constant backtracking but never relenting on their idea to milk the game as much as they can make this game a horrible purchase. You use credits earned by playing to buy Heroes (Darth Vader, Luke Skywalker, ect) however you also use these same credits to buy loot boxes that randomly give you cards to upgrade the normal class characters. So if you want to play as Darth Vader and you are currently saving all your credits for him that means you are not able to upgrade any of your other characters. They have since lowered the insane prices of Heroes, however they also lowered your rewards for completing the campaign, and also limited the amount of credits you can earn in arcade mode. Yes you heard it correctly, they limit the amount of progression you can EARN in the game by PLAYING the game to cause you to pull out your wallet and buy your way to top of progression. Another note to end on your performance does not matter in this game.
