This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. After finishing the game and the announcement of no additional SP content coming, I'm doing another review.

The positive: The game is solid now. Mostly bugfree and the animations have been fixed for the largest parts.

The mediocre: Story, straight from the rack. Companions, apart from Drack and Peebee, the worst turnout of any Bioware game. In previous games, I couldn't wait to discuss our progress with the companions. In this game I get the feeling of do I really have to talk with that companion again. They're mostly cliche, with Gil sticking out like a sore thumb. He's the virtual gay checklist being ticked off. Gay, female best friend, wants to become a parent, becomes parent with female best friend. When I learned about his story, I was sure, a homophobe had written this. Liam, the guy that even the squadmates despise. So how would the player react differently to this annoying and boring cardboard? Then there's the lead character, Ryder. It's the weakest lead character of any Bioware game. I blame that on the absence of Paragon/Renegade options that doesn't even allow for a snide comeback if your character is outright insulted.

The ugly: Lose quest threads. I don't know what the developers had in mind when the most interesting side quests just lead to nowheren. Specifically the mysterious benefactor and the Garsson murder leave you hanging out to dry. Maybe they planned on producing DLCs to resolve these issues. But we're not getting any, so there's absolutely no incentive for a replay, fully knowing that you won't resolve most of the mysteries.

In short, buy if you're into some shooter action with added puzzles and repetitive environments. Steer clear, if you expect RPG content.

What an embaresment, bad story, ugly unlikable characters. Boring generic gameplay.. All the good Bioware game have characters that make the player feel for them. Sometimes you hate a bad guy , sonetimes you love a compainion. The characters in Andromeda were so dull and safe all you got from them was to not want to be anyware near them.

Very boring game. I can enjoy ME1 still, but I can't enjoy this game loaded with non-needed boring stuff that was put into this game just to make fill it with tasteless crap.

Even with ugly faces, too much similar puzzles, ugly faces, slow and repetitive stories, ugly faces, narrow space in co-op missions, and ugly faces, this is a solid game worth a score of 7-8.

I can remember 1 year ago, we witnessed the failure of No Man's Sky and wished this would not be another lie of the trailer. Now the developer proves that they are much less responsible than the No Man's Sky team. They have given up further effort on fixing this mess and this is probably the most thing I am unhappy with.

I cannot say I didn't enjoy my 70 hours. But it is pretty disappointing, and truly a lesson of not pre-ordering the game.

The game is definitely buggy but not worth a 0/10 with any perspective.
The game's main story is fine-ish, it isn't great; but the game shines in player stories, ryder is but a vessel for the player to express themselves and mold the world accordingly. Each friend mission and heleus assignment is a literal ride for players to actually role-play as a pathfinder; does the player keep on focusing on just his vengeance against the archon or does he help the angara, etc.
The world is brimming with potential; Though sadly we won't be seeing our decisions take fruition in the next part(i really do hope EA reconsider it)
The gameplay is simply put fun. On hard it is challenging enough to be fun without being pathetically imbalanced against the player; if i died i felt like it was my f*** up rather than cheap damage from enemies. The enhanced mobility in combat adds more than just speed to the combat but verticality also. The weapons are satisfying to use, the exploration is fun as well though platforming feels like a missed opportunity here. The AI though leaves a bit to be desired as sometimes they are smart to flank you and even flush you out of cover using grenades etc. forcing you to use the mobility that you have but sometimes they get stuck in between deciding whom to target(happened to me in 10% encounters across the 50 hour playthrough). The new dynamic profile system is fun to tinker with as well
The graphics are a mixed bag; facial animations suck to be put bluntly(Except for those few scenes which seem animated differently). The environment on the other hand though ranges from breath-takingly gorgeous or just meh(still miles ahead of stuff like no man's sky or the planet explored in previous mass effects). The moment when your ship docks in and you view the planet on foot is always makes you feel enticed to explore it.
The music is good, not too bad not too great but it does fit in well with whatever happens on screen(At least on my playthrough)
The menus are good and easy to navigate but they are overly done, to the point of being irritating. Even after the skip patch the planet zoom in to zoom out remains which loses novelty after first 3 times and then becomes irritating.
Overall, even after the patches the game remains buggy but never enough to outshine its strengths. The game is easily a 7.5/10(have to give 8 as metacritc doesn't have decimal ratings). Fun to play and a great sandbox to roleplay your character in; if you can bear through the irritating menus and occasional glitching

The dynamic narrative choices are unmatched. The characters have so much depth. This game is both incredible and fun. I am not sure when I will ever have time to play a different video game again. To address the flaws, it is a huge game and the bugs are being fixed. Some of the animations are what they are. This is a massive video game that offers so much. A crooked smile should not ruin your experience. The game does start slow after the intro, but, WOW, does it open up after your first planet. The only big complaint I have is the lack of auto-saves and quick-saves. I’ve lost 20+ mins of combat from lack of available saves. Expand

It really is hard to make an acceptable custom character better than or equal to the default one. Their hair color and options are pretty sad as well. Perhaps they really need to go in a different direction with their art design. I seriously don't know why people are complaining this much about ME:Andromeda. The 0/4 scores are purely from fan-boys or people hating on something particular (like the animation non-sense I talked about before), there is no way that this game could have that low score.
Finally, I stopped caring about these silly ratings a couple years ago, and some AAA games with really low score were a surprise. The only reason I'm making this review is for the people who really wan't to know if this game is good. If you liked the other Mass Effects, you will like this one too.

So, the bad stuff first. Unpolished. Obvisously, release date has been pushed by EA. Most of bugs and animation flightches were fixed with patch 1.05 thankfully and for the most part it now runs smoothly. Second, main story feels bit like filler. We never get that real feeling of kett dread except in one scene. Three, lot of decisions within the game see no consequence with vague promise of it being seen in future DLCs, new game. Which would be normally fine, but seems to be that too many things have been thrown in that category and there are multiple quests that seems thanks to it unfinished (eg Benefactor one). Inventory system needs to be remapped and so does research and development.

Good things: Exploration. Narrow corridors of ME2 and 3 are gone, replaced by open world and return of exploration feeligns that many loved in ME1 (though there it was unpolished as hell). Combat. Again, 2D combat zone with cover-and-shoot system is gone. Open fields and verticality now rule and its all for the better. Writing of side quests which sold this game for me and made me nuke 90 hours inside first full playthrough. Aside of generic task quests (seriously, just ditch them) the side quests have all a smaller or greater story and will keep you interested in game.

PS: I dont care about graphics. I still enjoy KOTOR 14 years after I played it first time and graphics doesnt bother me. Besides, graphics is strong pull here and some awkward facial animation (to be honest, noticed that only once) is really something that matters not to me and for those who have nothing else to say, it makes you look like nitpickers who just want to hate but are struggling to find a reason. Seriously, how many of you 0/10, 1/10 and 3/10 even frickin played this game? Not many probably.

TLDR: Most of flaws here are of technical character, with others being something that could have been done better, but it isnt deal-breaker. It sets a solid ground for new spin-off franchise and am interested in seeing it develop in the future.

The game provides a good experience because it puts exploration front and center, has a pretty decent story, and contains serviceable characters. I have found a few bugs (for example I get certain messages before I'm supposed to) but nothing that a game reload won't fix. The dialog is weaker than previous games but not infantile as some suggest.

I have to say that I'm amazed at the rage being vented against ME:A. Many complain of the scanning and gathering elements, but I think they actually enhance the feel of exploration. If you wanted a story of ME2 quality, I can see where you might be disappointed, but several of the highly negative reviews I've read have little in common with my experience.

But this game was better than what i expected by much , in fact it was the first game since fallout new vegas that got me playing non stop every minute that i had free.

    The good:
_Mass effect 2 dialog system but better
_Mass effect 1 exploration system but much better
_Your squad members are very interesting and have great quests not just a "do this and im loyal" but actually quest that unlock other quests.
_An incredible ammount of interesting side quest that you really dont have to do but are there to do if you want , this is epic because its like a fallout game , you have epic quest that could never do if you did not care.
_The combat system is great , basically you have mass effect 1 exploration with mass effect 3 combat.
    _The main story is great.
_You actually have many character reactions to everything that happens in the story.
_The feeling of being alone in a dangerous galaxy is there.

    The bad:
_The animations are not as good as in mass effect 2 or 3 but considering that this game is longer than mass effect 2 and 3 combined and it has a masive number of side quest it is not really a problem ,mass effect 2 and 3 where more about cinematic effects about a story.
Andromeda is more about exploration like mass effect 1 so the animations are not as good but they are not terrible as the bad reviews say.
_There are some animation bugs but they are really minor and will be fixed.
_The fact that the game is based on exploration makes me think that ea will force bioware to sell a **** of DLC before they start working on a second game to finish the story.
_The vehicle for exploration should have weapons , its really not as much fun exploring if you need to stop to fight some idiots in the way , this was better in mass effect 1.

I personally find that Gameplay and Plot are more important parts of a game than animations - but it would seem a lot of people intensely disagree with that opinion.

    ___________________________________________________________________________
I'll be honest, there seems to be several issues in how this game is rated by its audience.

The first is a fairly common mistake (imo), which is that the game isn't rated on its own virtue, or rated against an industry standard. Instead it's measured against a trilogy that launched a decade ago, and that a lot of us grew up with. The second part, and judged from some of the things I've come across on different sites, seem to point out that people were set on hating the game and being disappointed by it, before it ever launched.I think it's a legacy of ME3's ending, which has tainted this launch.

Is it an inferior game compared to the original trilogy? Aspects of it are, for sure. But it gets a lot right too. Gone are the cramped pre-fab structures of the original trilogy, and the addition of the jump pack/biotic jump + evade adds a lot to the dynamics of the gameplay, and the pace as well.

I found the various locations more visually stimulating than either the original ME games, but also far better than the mess that was DAI. They weren't perfect, but they were at least on par with the original trilogy as far as I'm concerned.

Right, so the setting and the gameplay are at the very least wholly acceptable. So what about companions and plot/missions?

Companions will always be a subject of intense debate -as it should be. I suspect that half the player-base absolutely hates Peebee (justified or not) while the other half probably loves her. This is as it always will be, and isn't a lick different from any of the companions in the original trilogy. Some characters are pretty dull, some feel a bit forced, and others are pretty cool. In this case, I'd say they got more right than not, though I'd note that Bioware have far more issues with human characters than they do aliens (though perhaps disregarding Jack).

    Plot and missions? Right.
Most of the game will be spent on different planets doing sidequests. As with most games, some of these are good, and others bad (no Witcher 3 here I'm afraid). Primarily the issue isn't an abundance of boring sidequests, as much as it's the amount of times you have to fly back to the same planet because of a quest update. Too much time spent in flying animations to the same damn places.

The main plot is fairly decent though. The Kett are however a tad more generic than I'd wish for. Think the alien invaders in The Avengers, just with the ability to speak.. well, sorta.

So, we come to the last part, and the one that's been hyped unreasonably so. Or maybe not unreasonably so, but one that has a far larger impact on user scores than makes sense. The animations. First of all, I'm not going to address general bugs, as they judging from a ton of other games, don't really impact scores (basically any game made by Bethesda). There are however distinct issues with animations, character creation and recycling of character assets.

Animations range from fine to terrible. I ended up deleting my custom male character after the first conversation, because the facial animations were absolutely terrible. This was made better by using the pre-made male Ryder. The fact that the default male Ryder works decently, does not however, in any way forgive the terrible animations of custom characters but also other parts of the cast in the game. Facial animations aren't the only issues though, and movement and body language in conversations and cut-scenes also leave much to be desired. One would assume in this time and age, that a triple A studio could afford some decent mocap for both facial features and body (I don't recall it being as bad in DAI, though it was pretty damn wooden in the original ME trilogy).

And then there's the recycling of assets. No excuse here, that's just plain lazy and frankly disrespectful. It's not even that they're trying to hide it. There are multiple scenes were a crowd of characters all wearing the same damn face are in plain view. It's insulting.

The reason for my rating is fairly simple. If the animations and recycling of character assets were fixed, I'd give it an even "8" or hell maybe even an "8.5" if that was a thing. But the animations and recycling kills a bit of the immersion that seem to be Bioware's aim in most of it's game.

Not as bad as people are saying it is. A lot EA bashing going on here. A lot of people who obviously haven't even played the game posting negative reviews.

A good experience if you can ignore the problems in the beginning, the game flaws are too evident at the start, but its strengths shine brighter to the mid-end game

Great great great game. I have loved this from the start to the end.
It's one of my favorite of all time.
I want a sequel and a sequel of the sequel and more.

Mass Effect Andromeda user reviews prove that you can't trust the internet princesses. This game is an excellent mix of rpg, resource management and action with great presentation. I hope that for my gaming enjoyment Bioware DOESN'T listen to the complaints. This is a great game.

Planetside exploration is reminiscent of Mass Effect 1 except the planets have more content and there are no filler planets (so far). Action is the best of all Mass Effect games. The new galaxy and characters don't have the same emotional attachment as in the previous games eventually had but it has potential. Ryder in particular isn't "black slate" type of character like Shepard. Her dialogue fits her character very well regardless of option.

There are some nitpicking that bothered me a bit scifi-wise. With those quantum entanglement communicators one would think they'd place one on Milky Way to keep communicationg with the fleet. Less emotional attachment to the characters too, though I like the crew. Game also starts bit slowly and there is lot to take in when it gets going.

But I didn't even notice that those "facial animations" are supposedly bad. Wow.

First off I created an account on here just to write a review and that is saying a lot for me. I am tired of all the haters putting this game down. I understand that this game doesn't live up to the hype to some people. This game is far from perfect. Does this game have bad facial animations, pop ups, awkward moments, and fetch quests? Hell yes it does. That being said, sometimes I justFirst off I created an account on here just to write a review and that is saying a lot for me. I am tired of all the haters putting this game down. I understand that this game doesn't live up to the hype to some people. This game is far from perfect. Does this game have bad facial animations, pop ups, awkward moments, and fetch quests? Hell yes it does. That being said, sometimes I just had to actually stop and take in the beauty of the game world around me and look at the scenery. I was constantly curious of what laid ahead next and I am not just talking about the main story. There are many different items to find, develop, and research so it feels really rewarding when you get something ultra rare. The combat isn't perfect either, but it is fun and it hasn't gotten old for me. I actually almost didn't buy this game because of all the negative reviews and crap on youtube. That being said, i went with my gut feeling and bought it. I am still glad i did. This could have been game of the year if the issues that everyone has been claimed about been fixed. I am going to give this game a 10 just to even out the negative, even though its actually a 8 for me. If you liked the previous games of the past or just like sci-fi space games in general then just buy this game. Expand

Postcard-pretty landscapes is pretty much all that there is good about Andromeda. They serve as backdrops for a boring, cliche-ridden, somewhat demented story with forgettable characters and even more forgettable missions.

Enough of the classic Mass Effect, with enough new mechanics to keep the game fresh. [Hollingworth; Issue#261, p.55]

An earnest attempt has been made to create a new identity for a series here, but the question of how to best frame Mass Effect's narrative strengths is, once again, left open. [June 2017, p.90]
